1st time visiting, friendly staff, nice atmosphere, good food, everything we tried we enjoyed.. had multiple entrees rather than the main course dinner meal. I will return when back in the area.

Need to meet with a few people? Having lunch at The Madhouse is my suggestion to you. They have many light lunch options, and large tables. It is not noisy, but the atmosphere is conducive to a short working meeting. If a member of that meeting is out of town, The Madhouse is found easily! There is on-site parking and on street parking too. If out of town, there is a bus stop right in front of the building with shade and a bus shelter too. The servers are well trained! They work with you - just tell them you are having a quick meeting. They will orchestra the serving of food, and it has been my experience, they know when best to bring out the food, etc. Consider a lunch meeting at the Madhouse. A tasty and productive hour is yours! Where else does that happen at lunch? Dietary restrictions: They have three very tasty meals that are Diabetic friendly.

Madhouse had a nice selection of meals. We tried the recommended Chicken Parm sandwich and tossed chicken tenders. Both came with a large amount of potato wedges. The food was good, drinks aswell! Our server was really nice, helpful and fun. If I find myself in Thunder Bay again, Id return to try the nachos!

Walked to the front door at 11:55 on a Saturday night were met at the door to tell us they already did last call so we couldn t come in. Went to Boston pizza instead. Never heard of last call over an hour before they close. Wouldn t recommend going there

It is a relaxing, unpretentious place to meet friends for lunch. The food is delicious and the selection is amazing....something for everyone.

Went there tonight and The server had recommended there new spicy jalapeño margarita. She had told me and my friend who also got it that it was not spicy at all! She said it was pretty much just for decoration. The drinks were so spicy you couldn t even drink them. But on top of that I had a dirty straw given to me with black stuff floating all in my drink I had asked her to take it back and she did. My friend also could not drink hers but because of how hot it was.. when bills came we were both charged for them. I asked another lady at the bar why and she said bc it s an expensive drink?? And I explained that mine was dirty tho? And she tried to argue that it was because it was spicy and that s why I didn t want it?? I returned a full glass? Anyways the two lady s we re very rude, I was shocked. My server slapped my money back in my hand and stormed off.. won t be going back..

First experience here did not disappoint! Service was fast and friendly during a fairly busy lunchtime yet we didnt feel rushed to leave. Highly recommend the steak sandwich and the chicken club.

The beer cheese dip and pretzel was amazing

When visiting, I would suggest any of the appetizers. This trip I had the mushrooms and would recommend them to any that like fungi cooked to near perfection. The downside is they do not have an in-house or local hot sauce to go along with their beautifully made entrées. The serving staff appear to be on their toes and seam to work well together. Keep up the good work!

Great atmosphere

Delicious food and great atmosphere. Leafs VS. Lightning was on during my visit and it was surely adding an abundance of energy to the pub. Waitress was friendly, wait times for food were longer than expected but was not disappointed when food arrived earlier than originally projected.

The food was gross so I didnt eat it, the waitress was being harassed by a group of men probably more than twice her age so I almost threw the food at them. She was a sweetheart so that why this review is 3 not 1 star. This place needs to do better and protect thier vulnerable employees from gross old boomers

A good spot for a drink and some pub food although I wish there was more booth type seating. The decor needs some updating but the atmosphere was positive. My husband had the fish and chips which was delicious and I had the steak and goat cheese salad which was amazing! Our waitress was not friendly or talkative nor did she thank us for 20% tip but I just have to assume she s human and was having a bad day:)

Great Burger!

The burger was really yummy, and the fries were amazing. A very different style than what Im used to, so good!

Blown away by the food here! Had the Beer Cheese Burger and Steak Salad shared with some local draft. What was the cherry on top of great food and drink in this comfortable atmosphere was our server Chris! Great friendly service and awesome suggestions. Shutout to him! Deffinitely go here !!

Chicken strips were really overcooked. It was very tough and hard to eat. Was in a rush to eat, so I ate what I could and left.

Came in after baseball game. Arrived after 9pm. It was just a short drive from the Thunder Bay Border Cats. Neat restaurant/bar. Atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. Place was busy but not overcrowded. Seated immediately. Waitress was great! Ordered draft beer (Murphy) and the Fish and Chips. The dinner came with coleslaw. Awesome! Both food and drinks were great! Would definitely return if ever back in Thunder Bay.

Been here a few times. Very dark, moody decor. Even dark in the mens washroom stall. Somewhat messy, especially with all the empty liquor boxes stacked along the way to the mens washroom (like this every time Ive been in). Had salt and pepper wings and the Buffalo chicken dip. The wings barely had a speck of pepper, let alone salt. The wings were small and somewhat overcooked. The Buffalo chicken dip was very good, but they re always stingy on the chips. The service was poor this time. Werent even asked if we wanted another drink or more food. Dirty dishes werent removed. We got tired of being ignored and went up to the till to ask for the bill. Our server happened to be at the till and said she was just going to come by. She then asked how things were, and I mentioned the wings. Her response, thats too bad and heres your bill. I dont know why I still left a tip.

Second time going. This was a busy weekend. Some menu items sold out prior which is fine. Highly communicative, fastest ice and food consistently wonderful! The dtink options are impressive !

One of the most extensive whisky menus Ive seen outside of a large metropolitan city. Well worth your time if youre a connoisseur. Food was good too, but for me, it was secondary to the single malt selection!

This is a popular eatery in Port Arthur Thunder Bay located at Bay and Algoma. The food fare is delicious and the menu is varied. The inside atmosphere is an average bar like setting with stools around a rectangular service area as many a Cheers are. There are tables available and a small patio outdoors for summer days. Table service was very good and attentive.

Loaded potatoes wedges were the bestest. Coconut shrimp - yummy Only bad thing I can say was it was loud. But hey its also a bar. So yeah. Food : 5/5

As a whiskey fan from the states, I was happy to see Thunder Bay had a classy place with an extensive whiskey menu to explore. The service was attentive, warm, and friendly, the food was good, and the ambiance was warm and inviting. Completely satisfied with my visit.

Fun atmosphere, nice & helpful staff, and good food & drinks. I recommend the Caesar, hot wings, and quesadilla.

Food seems good but it is hard to enjoy. We witnesses a staff step on a table to change the menu on the chalkboard, left a foot print on the table, we stared at him doing it, didn t clue in. Never wiped the table down and foot print was still on table 30 mins later. We also witnesses some sketchy people being served, it is hard to denny them service but whether we agree or not it made my partner feels extremely uncomfortable. It begs the question what goes in the kitchen of such behaviour is permitted our front. Unfortunately it makes it hard to enjoy the food which is good, but overall experience is degraded. I keep trying to give mad house a chance to recover its reputation, but it s standards are to low for the average paying customer. Unfortunately next time I ll go to Montana s or something.

The food is sneaky good. Garlic aoli on chicken parm? Best idea all week. Heck, even the kids menu food was ridiculous. Ordered pasta for my little one and it was delicious. Amazing selection of whiskey

We go as a group and for the most part we always have a great time and good food. Staff is always accommodating, food is consistently good. The only negative would be trying to get a table big enough for our group. That said we always manage to get everyone seated and fed.

Due to recent events, myself nor my colleagues will be support this business. Here is the alleged incident: Two individuals attempted to purchase food for an individual in need; whom a lot of the local community recognize, to which these two customers were denied to make a purchase. Complete discrimination based on this alone. The response to this; directly made by The Madhouse s Facebook page states this: For 20 years the Madhouse has been supporting the marginalized community in Thunder Bay with thousands of free pops, coffees and soups- as well as open use of our bathrooms and lobby warm up- in recent years the panhandling and misuse of our facilities has grown in the extreme. Many of our customers particularily the elderly have voiced their discomfort and concern for their safety at our door. As such it has been our policy to discourage solicitation on our property. We will continue to support the entire bay and Algoma community in the ways we always have. This may be one of the worst responses to such a severe situation. Who cares who makes the purchase for who? Do the elderly really come ahead before everyone else? Thousands of free pops, coffees and soups who cares about numbers - ITS THE RIGHT THING TO DO! Or I guess in this situation, it was different? It s been nice knowing you Madhouse. #BoycottMadhouse

Food was delicious, good selection of drinks, nice atmosphere and friendly service. What else could you want?

The people who work here are awful. I heard a lady who was hungry had a couple helping her trying to buy food from here for the poor lady. Madhouse refused and then they had to go to Mcdonalds to feed the poor woman.

They never accepted my status card as an acceptable form of ID . I will never come back. I only carry one form of ID when I go out. Servers should know what Ids are acceptable or not.

Racist, classist. Absolutely disgusting treatment of homeless in the area. Would much prefer to cater to the rich elderly white crowd than anyone else. Zero respect for them.

Food is bad, service is worse

Not impressed the only time I went. Slow service and cold food, despite being the only two people in there. I got the feeling the server kept forgetting we were there.

Went on a date with hubby. We are not new and we always appreciate good service from the staff. Hubby had few questions and our waiter was very helpful, he was absolutely nice too. Just didnt get his name.

We ordered the mad burger and mad veggie burger with fries. We had the Mediterranean plate as an app. Service was great, no complaints there. The space has always had a good atmosphere as well. For the price, the Mediterranean plate has an absurdly small serving. 14$ for 3 falafel balls, a few pieces of Naan, and some olives. The sauces went very well with the plate and the falafel was awesome in taste but for 14$ you would think they would include at least enough Naan to finish the sauces. The fries were crispy yet soft inside and wedge in style. Probably my favourite part of the meal, except for the fact that there was a piece of breaded fish mixed into my wifes plate of fries? Maybe from a fish and chips ? I mean, yes; I ate it anyway ok? But getting a random fishy bit in your fries is not what youd hope for if you didnt order it. Ironically, they told us no sea food was available before we ordered. The veggie burger was OK, not great. I dont know if my tastes have matured, but I remember really liking the mad veggie burger years ago. This time, I had a hard time getting over the squishy and greasy texture of the patty. For the price, Im not sure how Madhouse stacks up to other bar food type restaurants. I dont go out enough to really say. maybe covid times has made them rise their prices, but the bill was well over 80$ for 2 burger meals, a small app, a beer, and a fudge cake desert. Madhouse gets an OK rating from me. 10 years ago I would have probably given it 4 stars but maybe thats just me.

Very disappointing experience went for dinner to find out they do not have gluten-free options anymore with more and more people with celiac you need to have gluten-free options. I ordered the seafood pasta when it arrived asked for Parmesan cheese to be told they don t have it they didn t have the fish sandwich or a few other items on their limited menu either. Waitress was not that great. Will not be back which is sad as I love supporting local. Bathroom was not very clean and no paper towel either. If I could give you a negative star rating I would

My third try at this place and I have to say the food is mediocre. Wonderful service by the server and I must say they make an excellent Marguerita! Again, I was disappointed with the food you receive for what you pay.

Madhouse had a unique vibe. Much like their Spicy Margarita that is spicy, and sweet, with salty and sour flavours it hits every note. It feels like a hidden gem, yet a local staple, and divy yet classy. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere and great service. This is a go to for me every time Im in the city! Katie is a wonderful and attentive bartender who takes pride in her work.

Went for a late night drinks and food. They were almost around closing,but the server was so nice and friendly. Gave a great choice and recommendation in drinks. The last time I visited it was really very crowded and busy.But this time, it was reallly not that bad. The food was ok. But their bar is really good. Its a lil bit expensive than other local bars But I would recommend it.

Rude power tripping wait staff. The owner needs to better train his staff on customer service. I watched a young guy and his son try to get a seat to get somthing to eat last thursday at 8:05 pm and this obnoxious young thing working the front door was something else. There are many other newer bars and restaurants nearby that have great welcoming customer service and openly accept people. Sorry Madhouse your name reflects what you have become regarding customer service . Watching this behaviour that night was the last time I care to sit in the dated, over priced , customer sevice lacking establishment

Great place to eat and get a drink

We had a Christmas lunch planned with our sister store. Tried phoning in the order the day before. They said they They don t do preorders and to call in the morning and place the order. I called in the morning as soon as they opened. Our sister store was able to place an order, but refused our order, leaving us scrabbling too find a different place to eat, so we could have a Christmas lunch together. I would give zero stars if possible. Not to mention the lady I spoke with had a rotten attitude and could care less of our situation. Will never recommend this place and will never spend a red cent here. Poor customer service.

Tried to preorder for a Xmas get together. Was told no they could not accommodate a preorder and to call on the day of. When we called they said they could not take our order they were too busy. Absolutely brutal customer service. Fortunately we were able to find another local restaurant to accommodate us.

If I could give them a zero star review I would. We tried to pre-order our Christmas lunch the day before, and were informed that they dont do pre-orders and to order the next day. On calling we were told that they had too many orders, and they would not fill our lunch order. Were on a tight schedule, and our Christmas lunch was a complete bust. Rude customer service, beyond that, no service at all. If I could give a zero star review I would. They deserve it

Once what used to be a staple in my lunch life. Has now turned into a forgotten memory. Today the madhouse refused to do our Christmas party lunch after trying to pre-order. Id like to go into more detail of bad customer service. But theyre not worth the effort.
