Caribou Restaurant + Wine Bar in Thunder Bay

Had dinner there with my wife. Everything was excellent! Wife had the seafood pasta I had the Salmon special. They were both excellent! We had the roasted olives for an appetizer, they were the best olives I ve ever had in my life. Staff is extremely friendly and professional. We were in town to go skiing, next time we re in town we ll go back there.

We were celebrating our anniversary on a Friday night, and Madison was our server. She was amazing! Boyfriend and I are both very indecisive, and she was very patient with us and explained the menu. I am not a steak person but the Korean steak dish on the menu was amazing! I loved the touch of rice and egg on top, never had steak that way but I loved it. Boyfriend is not a pasta person but he ordered the Mafaldine. The pasta was so rich and creamy. We ordered the fig and pear wood oven pizza for starters and also the ceaser salad. Loved them both. We were soo full from our meal but Madison really had sold us on the dessert so we decided to make room for Crème Framboise. It did not disappoint at all, it was an amazing way to end the night. Overall we had an amazing time!

Food here is always fabulous. This time I had the Tuna Tataki. While the Tuna was great, I loved the crispy sticky rice. My wife had the Seafood Linguine which definitely did not skimp on the seafood.

Fantastic time dining restaurant. A must go when in Thunder Bay

We sat at the bar, I had an awesome Manhattan and my wife had a delightful pinot. Lamb meatball appetizer was spicy and delicious. Then we waited. We could see the pizza we ordered sitting and waiting, 10 mn later we finally got the bartenders attention and enjoyed it, we then ordered spamoni gilato but again it sat waiting. When we finally got it, it was only chocolate and crystallized so we passed. Also took way too long to get the check. We were very happy with most of the food but disappointed with the service.

I dined at Caribou during my trip to T Bay over a year ago, and I still find myself craving their excellent pasta dish. Service was impeccable from our waiter, DJ. Will definitely go back when I am back in the area!

Caribou restaurant is always a first class place. The food and service are always top notch! Our only complaint is the noise. It is hard to talk to the people at our table when it is busy. That doesnt stop us though...the place is that good!

The best food made in the oven !

Service was great. Nice atmosphere. Not a lot of people but music a bit loud. The pizza was okay. Crust was a little tough. And the tomatoe salad was good but could have used a little something to bring out the flavours.

Sad when you can t find a good restaurant open on a Sunday. Strange times. I guess this is why everyone fills up on fast food around these parts.

Good food, nice decor inside, unassuming exterior. Staff at front of house will look at you strangely if you dont let them take your coat. Servers very pleasant and put in the extra effort for all patrons under their care.

Excellent, meal and service.

A must if youre visiting! I was in town for a conference and had never been to Thunder Bay before, my colleague looked up restaurants and picked this one! We werent sure what to expect, but we were greeted warmly by the hostess who took our coats. I had the Maple Teriyaki Salmon - it was delicious, no fishy taste the flavour wasnt overbearing and I paired it with Deloach Pinot Noir. The server, Donny, really knows the menu - I wasnt sure which wine to get and he sold me on this one! Plus all their desserts were great - they should have the dessert menu on their website ;) but other than that nothing to improve on. It was top notch food and service!

Although expensive, definitely worth the experience. The food was amazing, the service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was immersive. Our waiter had an incredible knowledge of all the wines and what would pair well with what.

The whole meal was wonderful, but the blackened pork chop is easily the best pork chop I ve ever had. I could eat it again and again.

This is the first time weve eaten at the Caribou despite having visited Thunder Bay many times before. While the prices are slightly higher than other places, the food and dining experience is well worth it. Our server was excellent as was the food. We started with 2 drinks and then split the red wine of the day to have with our meal. We had the risotto cheese balls for an appetizer and then split the 2 special entrees of the day, the sticky ribs and pork thai salad (forget the exact name) both dishes were sooo delicious. The ribs just peeled off the bones and melted in our mouths! Our server knew that we were splitting the main meals and the wine so she brought 2 wine glasses and a small carafe for the wine plus an extra plate for us to use for dividing the meals. I love these little extra service touches that make the dining experience even better. Unfortunately, we didnt save room for dessert, next time, and there will be a next time for sure, well go lighter on the meals so that we can try desserts too.

Our daughter and son-in-law took us for dinner to the Caribou restaurant. We knew this to be an excellant choice with our experience of well prepared dishes to engage our senses and great all round service at the table. Very helpful with our dinner choices and desserts. He suggested a good local brew as well. Bravo to him.

Great local restaurant. Food is mostly locally sourced and delicious. The service was awesome. We were visiting from out of town and our waitress shared a lot of good information on things to see and do. Would highly recommend!

Food was quite good and arrived reasonably quickly even though the restaurant was almost full. The piri piri was the juiciest chicken I ve had in a restaurant in a while! The blackened pork chop was a little sweet, but still very tasty. The service was also very attentive, pleasant, and hit all the marks. Would rate much higher if it wasn t for the drink menu.. the cocktails were unbalanced, too sweet, and not very creative. The wine selection was also disappointing and it seemed like calling themselves a wine bar was an excuse for overcharging for very basic, cheap, and mass-produced wine.

Ordered the Korean Flat Iron for takeout. It was ready on time. The steak tasted great and the kimchi fried rice was a new treat. Portion size was slightly small but enough. Will come back next time I m in Thunder Bay

You should visit this restaurant if youre in Thunder Bay. Theyve got awesome menu options including the dessert. Kate served us so well during our visit to the restaurant. She made sure we were having the best time in the restaurant.

Domenic is an excellent server! I took my mother there a couple weeks ago on a week night and Domenic not only gave excellent recommendations, but he also chatted up a storm with her. It was a great evening (the food and drinks were delicious) but it was the service that made it memorable.

Excellent food, good x Elle t service, and excellent drinks! This is my 4th time visiting this place. I thought I should only write a review if everything was as good as it was the first time I visited a few months ago and it absolutely is. Love their food and service! The Mafaldine rabbit pasta is phenomenal, so is their steaks. I also love the apps, we probably have tried everything on their menu and it all taste great! Love the cozy ambiance too and the fact that there is plenty of parking space is always a bonus. Bulgy recommend this restaurant

Go to for great never disappointing food and drink.

I went with my family (including relatives who were visiting from Southern Ontario) recently, and the food and the service were so excellent. The food was fantastic, and the dishes were all perfect! We were extremely impressed with the professionalism and organization of the chefs in the kitchen. We were very touched by the owner checking on my son (who was crying over a delay in eating caused by taking a photo). When we invite our closest friends and family, this is the restaurant we go to. We absolutely loved it!

Food was delicious and TJ, our waiter was such a pro! So kind and attentive, and not only was the service but as out-of-towners he gave us a lot of great tips for things to do and other spots to eat that we took total advantage of. Thank you!

Wonderful meal

I had one of the best dining experience at this restaurant that I have had in years. The server was top notch. Not to mention very easy on the eyes. His attention was impecible. Cant say enough about his timing. Not too aggressive that we felt rushed but we were never ignored. The food was the best I have had in years. Delicious. You could totally tell that a top notch chef was in the kitchen. The server talked us into the ceasar salad and it did not disappoint. The only regret I have is that I do not live in Thunder Bay and cannot enjoy this wonderful establishment on a regular basis.

Amazing dinner! Our server was fantastic, the food came quickly, and everyone in our group was pleased with their meal. I had the blackened pork chop for the main, shrimp wrapped in bacon for the appetizer, and the salted caramel mini dessert. All of it was delicious. Parking: If you cant find parking at first, there are lots of spots in the back. Kid-friendliness: Not a restaurant I would take kids younger than twelve to.

It was our first time in Thunder Bay and stopped by based on the great reviews. We ordered the pear and fig pizza, lamb and the mafaldine pasta. The pear and fig pizza was delicious - lots of depth to the dish and the sweet and savoury flavours went very well together! Lamb was good - cooked well and we enjoyed the quinoa it was served with. The pasta was a let down - extremely bland and the pasta was not al dente. The service was average. Overall it was a decent experience.

I had a beautiful dinner at Caribou, since the gentleman who sat as, all the dishes and the great service provided by our server (I think her name was Melissa) she was very efficient and kind. I met a Bartender (Dawni) who was very professional and friendly. I love the coffee menu variety and that is along with the desserts choices. This is what we had, totally recommended! Apps: tostada and mussels Mains: piri piri chicken and tuna tataki Dessert: mini butterscotch budino Drinks: 0% beer and Pinot Grigio. Espresso and decaf cappuccino

been to this place a few times now while on business trips! Always a fantastic experience! Have tried both dine in and take out service and there s no drop off in any way. The piri piri chicken is *chef s kiss* and the drinks are always on point!

Ordered take out: steak frites and the salmon. The steak was cold and very tough, unable to finish it. No cutlery provided and was staying at a hotel. It literally broke my plastic cutlery it was so chewy/tough. My boyfriend enjoyed the salmon and it was warmer when picked up. We arrived before it was ready and therefore it should have still been warm if cooked at an appropriate time. I ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it would probably be a better experience in the restaurant if the circumstances were different.

Theres two patio areas-- one for reservations thats covered and one for walk-ins under open sky-- which is really nice and thoroughly appreciated. The restaurant itself is not on the main road so theres hardly any traffic noise or smell The piri-piri chicken is really tender and juicy. The mistofritti is all perfectly cooked, as in not one single rubbery calamari ever found. Wait staff is also great.

My partner and I were in Thunder Bay for the week, up from Hamilton. We wanted a nice place for dinner one evening, and based on the reviews we chose the Caribou, and it was a good choice. The food was delicious. I had the piri piri chicken and my partner had the mafaldine. Everything was cooked perfectly. If Im ever back in Thunder Bay, I will definitely eat here again.

Staff and food were fantastic. First time out with the wife in almost 2 years. Felt good to be back at one of our favourite spots. The Caribou never disappoints. Our server DJ made sure that we were well taken care of. Always trust his recommendations. You won t be disappointed.

Went for our ten year anniversary, first meal out in seven months and it was perfect. The food was incredible and the service was perfect, there is a reason why this restaurant is still one of the best in the city.

This place was an amazing find. While traveling thru town we tried to go to Keg but was waiting list but across parking lotwe seen The Caribou. Upon entering the amazing host said he could squeeze us into the last 2 spots at the bar right away. After being seated and quickly served 2 delicious cocktails our orders were place then ordered the most amazing pork chop ive ever eaten. Also ordered rabbit pasta dish that I cant remember the name of. Everything was so delicious noticed all the pizza were brick oven fried thin crust. So even though we were full we order a Quattro Formagi pizza to take with us to go on the road. Best meal we had on the trip across Ontario was here!

Ive only been for company Christmas dinner, though the staff was extremely kind and fast, food was absolutely delicious, though it is very pricey - that I have heard! The desserts are to die for!!!

We celebrated my wifes birthday at Caribou yesterday, and we really enjoyed the dinner. The steak was cooked perfectly & the hospitality was excellent. We will definitely visit Caribou again!

Our feel was good, I thought expensive for what we ordered.our waiter was great.

The Caribou is our annual stop on our trek north to our fishing lodge. The food has never disappointed. The staff is great as is the wine/beer offerings. I also have dreams thinking about the deserts especially the brûlée with the raspberries and hot Carmel sauce.

Excellent service and delicious food. Julia was an excellent server. Friendly and efficient. Atmosphere of the restaurant is very relaxing. I had the Piri Piri Chicken which was perfectly cooked at the right temperature and just the right amount of spice. For dessert, try the banana Foster. One of the best desserts Ive had in years! Recommended.

Get the penne with chicken. Get it. You will not be dissapointed. And avoid my mistake, save room for dessert.

My wife had a lovely mojo steak meal that she said was to die for and I enjoyed the porcini filet that was very flavorful, would go again! Friendly professional service to top it off.

Hubby & I just went for Sunday dinner. He had the lamb shank & I the salmon, with a nice bottle of pinot gris. Everything was delectable. Hubby even had the peanut butter cheesecake, and claimed it was lovely. The service was good, a little slow. A bit on the pricy side, but a nice treat, from time to time.
