Opened in 1954 by two Greek brothers who immigrated from Greece. Hard work and long hours to bring comfort food to the Westfort side of Fort William; now Thunder Bay. Introducing coney sauce on hotdogs , hamburgers and fries; With other menu choices that have become city favourites including Half-n-Half and all day breakfast for the working people of Westfort. Based on feeding the people; as Greeks live to do!!! Joined by their wives in the 60’s the families continued together for almost 50 years until Lola’s retirement in early 2000’s. Meanwhile, Effie continues to work 6 days a week to feed the customers, which she considers Family…….. Thank you to all our customers; they are why the Westfort Coney Island welcomes everyone. I'm kinda disappointed, I'm originally from Thunder Bay and have been to the Coney Island I can't even count how many times, food was always great especially that sauce, totally my favorite. Every time I would go to TBay to visit I always made sure to stop in and grab a few containers to take back to Manitoba,bragging about this amazing sauce, long story short, I was recently visiting some family and I was definitely going to get some of that sauce to take back home to wpg for myself and a few friends. When I saw the price for a container I was in shock,not cheap! Needless to say I only got 2 containers for myself. Decided to have it for supper, hot dogs and fries with the sauce! Definitely not what it used to be, super runny,no flavor except for pepper, was actually disgusting, I ended up dumping it was so bad. Two places in TBay I love to always stop at and bring some goodies back to Manitoba with me, The Persian Man and the Coney Island. Sad to say, after paying that price for not quite sure what that sauce was supposed to be, I highly doubt on my next visit I'll be stopping at the Coney Island again! Very disappointed 😡😠
Coney Island is a classic iconic staple of Westfort. People rave about it. Myself I think it lacks a bit of sauce and would prefer a 5 star bun vs bennet but I understand the connection. Way too much onion on it. So ask for no onion if you aren't a fan. I am a fan of other establishments as far as Coney goes. I feel like the sauce is just not quite flavorful enough. But MANY people love this place. So go try it out for yourself. Very personal old school feel inside. Love the 50s vibe.
I want to start off by say Coney Island was my fav restaurant in westfort. However, times have changed and so has the food at this local iconic restaurant. I went there today for the first time in a long time. I ordered two hotdogs (no onions) and two cheeseburgers (no onions). Let’s start with the hotdogs. The bun was steamed, soft and tasty. The hotdog itself, was not very good at all. It was over cooked, rubbery, and chewy with no flavor. The Coney sauce was not the Coney sauce I remember, it lacked flavour. Now onto the cheeseburgers. Again the bun was steamed and tasty. However, the actual hamburger meat was over cooked, tough and lacking flavor. The sauce was the same as the hotdogs. Customer service was fantastic. Too bad the food has slipped.
Coney Island has been a long standing tradition in our family for three generations. We have gone often and have never been disappointed. You feel like you're stepping back in time to when small diners were the bulk of the restaurant industry. This place hasn't changed much over the years and that is what's so special about it!

Bad service from a younger worker, not very welcoming at all to newcomers or first timers. Probably not gonna go back. Prepped food with bare hands after handling cash.
Was in the area and had a cheeseburger and hot dog with everything on it. Had been there before and food was all right. This time, cheeseburger was absolutely tasteless. Hot dog was downright bad...weiner tasted like it wasnt even cooked.
Worst service Ive ever experienced, lady behind the counter was unnecessarily rude to me and my friend, we didnt even say anything rude, practically threw the bag of food at me, and then the food there tastes like it was pumped with a bunch of preservatives or something gross, almost inedible.

I love coming here the only thing that has changed since childhood is the prices. Always a great experience when I come for lunch. The food is awesome, & service is always wonderful & fast.

I used to go there as a kid every weekend love the hotdogs. Sure do miss it as i live in Alberta now and dont get home much but when i do get home its the first place i hit Nothing better then a Coney Island hotdog mmmmmmm

The weiners used were...red.. maybe because I went an hour before close but wow. Not a drop of moisture left in em. Thought the poutine would be redeeming but the orange cheese made it taste...odd.. maybe just a bad day but ee not that great
