31$ for 2 slices of toast 2 eggs 4 bacon and 2 fin pancakes never again that was the most expensive breakfast ever its the price that gets me 5$ a fin pancake wtf

Arrived later in the day to get the Finnish pancakes and even though the restaurant was closed, you can buy pancake batter to go! Excellent service and really friendly atmosphere! Food

1 waitress was amazing. Food came fast. She was so nice and friendly. Food tasted so good.

There are two businesses at this location: Kangas Sauna and Little House of Pancakes, and they have different hours, different prices, different services. This should be split into two listings so that we don t show up at 7pm expecting food.

I have always enjoyed Kangas. Broad menu and it is all very good. The hardest part is deciding what to have for breakfast!

The chef was unable to poach an egg for my eggs benedict. They claimed the poacher was down. I chose to go somewhere for brunch where the chef was capable of boiling water.

Been coming here for nearly 35 years to sauna. Food is always good and homemade, prices are normal, and staff are friendly and courteous.

Love going here for steak and eggs and pancakes. They have the best coffee.

The food is good. Nothing too fancy nor nothing too extravagant. It can get crowded at times, depending on what time you plan to go. The saunas arent too bad as well. I had to make a complaint that one of the showers smelled like urine. Other than that, the price isnt too bad.

Food was good. Service was good but way overpriced in my opinion. Not racing back anytime soon. The ham & cheese omelette with toast was like $13.50 if you want potatoes thats sn extra $4.50 starting to get way to expensive to eat out.

It has been almost 30 years since being to Kansas, and it was a lovely experience. We rented a medium sauna and enjoyed having our own restroom. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We had a great steam followed by a wonderful sleep.

This is a good spot for branch, lunch in Thunder Bay. I tried Finnish? Pancakes with strawberry+cream, it s crunchy on the pancake edge and thin pancakes and not soft crapes like. I ate a famous soft fluffy sponge pancakes in Vancouver , both style of pancakes are awesome and both cities I live.

Breakfast is always a busy time and worth every second of any time of wait. We enjoyed our Finn pancakes as well as our bacon and eggs. The staff are always amazing!

Pancakes werent as good as last time, our servers seemed a bit scattered but it was busy so thats ok. Food was just ok overall, Id go back but not in a rush to

Cozy space to get some great food before or after a sauna downstairs or simply to eat. Super sweet staff and always fast. Parking: Parking lot is a little rough but theres always space.

Was in last week with a group of 4 for breakfast. We had pancakes and eggs benedict. Pancakes were good but bland, and the hollandaise on the benedict was very salty. The prices are higher than other restaurants when you consider any add-ons like the hash browns (cubed potatoes), which are normally included. And considering that it looks like they havent spent a dime on the place in 20 years. I rather go to Nivas for a better breakfast; more selection, nicer atmosphere and better service. You dont have to look for a refill.

After an unfortunate visit to a nearby waterfront restaurant (the food was mediocre and overpriced), we decided to visit a locally loved place where the food is the priority. Kangas Sauna delivered! Delicious food, generous proportions, awesome staff. My kind of place.

Whirlpool hasnt been repaired since covid, run down and smelly, rotting doors that wont close properly because they are warped and with cracked glass Atmosphere

Great spot for fin-pancakes (similar to crepes if you ve had those). Menu seems decent overall. Don t care for the coffee, too acidic for my taste. The place needs an update but it s still a good place to stop if you re in Thunder Bay. Parking: Potholes!

Best breakfast in the world

Had my first sauna here yesterday morning. Its a bit dated and some of the wood wall boards are due to be replaced but apart from that, I found it very clean. I used a small sauna and it was more than big enough for 1 or 2 people. There is a separate shower area and sitting/change space inside your own personal room. The quality of the sauna itself was excellent, it got very hot in there. Ive though about going here several times while in Thunder Bay and Im glad I finally did it. I will definitely be back

My new favorite lunch place. Very cozy. Staff is friendly. Even when busy, you dont wait long for a seat. The food is always great, with good sized portions. Fair prices. And best of all, its a long established local business.

This place is one of my favorite places to go..... Like ever! My boyfriend took me here for the first time and I was instantly hooked. The place is very clean. Great food. I cant get enough of this place!

Very good. Staff was defintly the stat of the show. The food itself was nicely made, it not a little basic. I felt like the price was a bit steep, especially charging for things like side fries. Overall a very good experience just be prepared to spend a little more.

Showed up a few minutes before my booking and found out they had given my sauna booking to someone else. After a few minutes of shuffling around they gave us a sauna and we were instantly disappointed. The sauna ceiling was falling off, the wall boards were also falling off or were heavily warped. There was no door to the bathroom stall which was of clear view of every room. It was warm though

Update: Two years later and its only gotten worse. The saunas remain in disrepair. There are large gaps in the sauna seating AND DOORS that let in drafts unless you plug them up yourself. The sauna stoves have elements that konk out every other day. Pray you dont book one of those. My contractor friends that sauna there say the work would be easy and cheap, the owners just dont care. But beyond that the place is FILTHY. Check out the ceiling fans. Literally disintegrating under the most dust and dirt Ive ever seen. Several times people I know have gotten FOOT FUNGUS from this place. Theyve got one cleaner (nice woman) that works half the time to do a cursory rinse of the saunas, at best. Ive been privy to seeing the kitchen and I now refuse to eat anything that comes from there. Even if the kitchen were clean the drunk chef Michelle would mess it up before shes even finished nuking a bucket of week-old soup for you. Lets not even mention that they never bothered to implement any Covid protections besides the plastic screen for their teller. They were supposed to shut down altogether, but never did. Nevermind removing tables for social distancing or increased cleaning standards, that never happened either. Real considerate owners, eh? All that is bad enough, but they even had the gall to RAISE THE PRICES. They now blatantly rip you off if you come as a group. Almost double the price from before, not split between your group but a flat charge for each. Kangas is not providing anything more for this additional charge, theyre just charging more. That extra person that wants to tag along, instead of helping with the cost, just increased the price of your sauna. Oh and dont forget that increased price only gets you 90 minutes, another decrease from before. Kangas is the type of place to rip you off as much as possible with the lowest standards possible. Pictures to come. Original Review: A sauna is always nice and you can get one here. Most of the staff are nice (especially the cleaner Ronatta). However the prices are ludicrously high considering the poorly maintained facility. The kitchen is filthy and the standards are worse. The building and equipment have major problems and the owners do not care. They refuse to put the needed capital and time into their business and it shows. I have no doubt the Health Unit would shut them down after a proper investigation. The owners Al and Cali raised the prices without fixing or improving anything. I can only recommend this place if youve got money to waste, call ahead to book one of the few decently maintained saunas, and do nothing else there apart from sauna. The owners do not deserve your custom, but youll be hard pressed to find another place to sauna without buying your own sauna.

GREAT food, was hard to find a waitress

Kangas is my must go there place when Im in Thunder Bay. The staff are so friendly, they have the best pancakes and the whole sauna experience is so awesome and refreshing.

Its been a long time since Ive been been able to go to Kangas. Ive been a regular customer for a long time. It was great to be back! The food is always great. I often used to order the early bird, pancakes, omelettes, the burger, or a tuna salad and soup. The deserts are also always great. Unfortunately with their new menu the cost is too much for me. They no longer have meals with included sides. Adding hasbrowns now costs $4. When I was a student I loved going for inexpensive but tasty breakfast and lunch but now it is simply too much. For two meals we ended up paying around 50$ with a tip. Unless foodcosts go down, Kangas lowers their prices, or my wage rises I will not be able to afford coming as a regular any more. Times are tough financially for everyone, including customers

Went in on Pancake Tuesday for my first Kangas visit. More than lived up to the hype. Service was prompt and friendly while the food was just perfect. Bacon? Perfect. Sausages? Perfect. Pancakes? Extra perfect. A member of my party said the eggs Benedict were also perfect. Dirty dishes were removed quickly from the table and our server was quick to offer refills and get the bill.

Best Finn pancakes in town! I came back after 8 years and was looking for Hoito or Scan House. Both are closed now and it worried me that their might not be a good place for Finn Pancakes. I WAS WRONG. Kangas Sauna Finn Pancakes are better than both of those places. My new favorite breakfast spot is now Kangas :)

Very good lunch. We have made a slight detour from our route, since we are going towards Banff. This restaurant in Thunder Bay is simply delicious. Dont be fooled by the exterior of the building, it doesnt reflect the quality of the restaurant.

Hands down the best Finn pancakes in town. A must do every single trip back to Thunder Bay. A huge assortment of ready made foods and beautiful sauna facilities. Gift certificates make perfect gifts for those hard to shop for. The service and the owners rock.

Have made Kangas a stop on cross country drives for the past 30 years. Its a great, relaxing and refreshing pit stop. Still a fantastic experience with great customer service, but the facility is really starting to show its age. Definitely needs a face-lift. I didnt eat there this time, but the restaurant was hopping and the specials looked good.

Came here for breakfast after hearing that Finnish Pancakes or Hoito are a local favorite. The food was delicious and well priced, and the service excellent! Would have stayed for a round at the sauna if wed had more time!

I have been going to this sauna every time I visit this city and have had nothing but good experiences. This past time was terrible. The sauna I was put in was not cleaned at all and something on the towel burned my legs after I used it. Thats when I took a closer look and noticed nothing was clean at all. After we complained we were given a new sauna.

Such a great place to unwind. I like to go here to soothe sore muscles and clear my mind. The staff is friendly and Ive never had to wait. Pro tip...get a bucket of ice!!! Just ask before you go to your sauna.

Its sometimes hard to find a place in Canada for a proper European sauna, but this quirky spot is just right. Nice snacks and cozy atmosphere. Kiitos!

What a great way to recharge and relax. I had 90 minutes to spare and popped in for a solo session between meetings. It was really a great experience. Looking forward to a repeat next time I m in Thunder Bay

We ordered breakfast, sat down and started to notice how run down and dirty the resturant was. After looking up other reviews and taking a look around, we asked for our food to go, paid for it, and left. Food is going in the garbage. On another note, the prices are very high. For example, if you want to add hashbrowns to your breakfast its $3, if you want to add maple syrup its $4.50

This place has really good breakfast. However it is slightly pricey when you include add-ons like home fries, strawberries and whipped cream etc. The idea of the place is really unique and I believe there is a lot of potential. However, at the moment it looks quite dated and run down. Service is great. If they improved on the ambiance I would gladly give this place 4 to 5 stars!

Saunas are awesome, very clean...and WOW! Hot!!! Some of the best Borscht on the planet. Another of Thunder Bays jems. To say its worth the trip would be an understatement

I went to Kangas Sauna for breakfast for the first time yesterday and I have to say it was an amazing time. The food was fast, delicious and kept me full for hours. But really the best part was the amazing staff, we sat at the counter and were immediately treated like family by not just our waitress, but everyone who walked by. I will definitely be coming back again.
