My girlfriend and I ordered the #5 and #2 combos as well as two egg rolls last night for takeout. Needless to say the food was pathetic. Given it was our first time there I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt. Without even mentioning how expensive this dinner was, we were extremely disappointed. The ribs were dry, the chow mein seemed old and wilted, the only somewhat redeeming qualities were the mediocre egg rolls and chicken balls. Like I mentioned it was the only time we’ve ever been here but from our experience it certainly did not live up to its 4.2 stars.

I needed to return to this place after being there a few years back on a business trip and discovering that they're one of only a few chinese places who fill their fried wonton with meat and it brought back tremendously fond childhood memories. So this time, on vacation I brought my family and of course ordered the wonton and shared that one small joy with my wife and children, not sure they understood, but perhaps after spending 35 years not finding a place that makes it like so, will trigger them in the same way lol. The food here is absolutely delicious, the egg rolls are full of flavour, the chicken fried rice is impeccable, of course the fried wonton is a must have and the servings are absolutely Massive, we're a family that destroys buffets, but not one of us ate our whole serving here. Worth every penny!
Waited for more 15 minutes and never was served even though 2 men came in after us and they got served and where eating there egg rolls and soup. So we left to go to another restaurant that wants our money and maybe get service.we went across the street to Asian and was greeted with a friendly face before making it all the way in. The service was fast and friendly and we tried the won ton soups, my wife tried the vegetable one and I tried the pork one. They were both great and the rest of the Chinese food was awesome. I am glad we left Mr Chinese when we did not get any service and went across the street to Asian and had an awesome meal.
The wonton soup was very good, and so was the tender beef with mixed vegetables. The service was great and the restaurant was really clean. The waitresses here are fine as hell.
After reading the mixed reviews I had to try it for myself. I called in for take out, very friendly staff over the phone. Was told 20 minutes to pick up, it was ready as I walked through the door nice and fresh. The employee that checked me out was very welcoming, kind and courteous. At first I was sceptical about the $21 bill for a #5 combo however, I’m currently 65% through the dinner and I’m having trouble finishing it all. The veggies were cooked as they should be, great sauce in the beef/vegetable. Beef was soft and perfect, not chewy at all. The chicken balls taste great but some are lots of breading (never underestimate the sneakiness) and the s&s sauce was as expected. The rice tasted great, I normally expect a bit more veg in my chicken fried rice however this was fantastic, no complaints. Pretty darn good job Mr. Chinese! I’ll see you in the future.
Totally a great experinece dinining there for a dinner. The best part was the service the server who take care of us and the lady who checked on us(I think she is the manager) was so nice. Checked with us about the inclusion of pork and was so friendly even though the restaurant was really busy. To be honest, the quantity of the food is really great for such a price. Food didnt take too long and it was delicious too. I would totally recommend this place.
When my husband was sooooooo insistent about eating Mr. Chinese, I was wondering what the fuss was because I’ve had a lot of good Chinese and to me, I thought Chinese food was Chinese food anyway but I was wrong. He ordered the dinner combination no. 3 and I ordered the Pork low mein. We loved our meals! I had some of his and he likewise with mine. It was really good. I don’t have any pictures because we somehow always eat our meal before we remember to take pics for a review 😂🤣 their food smells so nice and tastes so good that you might forget to take pics

We needed a receipt sent to us and the staff found it and sent it right away. They also remembered where we sat and who we were! Food is delicious. Staff is very welcoming. I recommend this restaurant.
We ordered take out while visiting Thunder Bay. It had amazing flavour and it was nice and juicy not dry like typical Chinese food. Would recommend a visit!

Drove all the way up from Minneapolis Minnesota just to try the bon bon ribs from here and it was definitely worth it. They tasted amazing! The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was modern and clean. Would definitely come to Mr. Chinese again just for the bon bon ribs! Make sure to try the plum sauce with the ribs

We love this place!! We drive through Thunder Bay once a year and we make a point of getting food here every time. Service is incredible and friendly! The ingredients are fresh and you can tell the food is made with care. So delicious Thunder Bay is lucky to have Mr.Chinese. Dietary restrictions: Made our wonton soup without seafood which is always a concern for us.

I went to this restaurant in March 2024. I was waiting for someone to show me a seat. Unfortunately, no one approached me. I decided to enter the hall on the left to take a seat. Suddenly, a waitress with light hair appeared and started shouting that I couldnt come in and sit at the table without her permission. Its a good thing there werent many people in the restaurant. I felt very humiliated and shocked. I have never encountered such a scandalous way of approaching a customer in a restaurant. The waitress didnt even bother to say sorry. I will never come to Mr. Chinese again.

Still above-average food quality and service. The number of items in every combination meal set (as in group meal combo for three, for four, etc.) have noticeably been decreased by at least one item per order. Alhough, probably, there may have been a slight decrease in each portion/s (or maybe none at all), I guess there might have been only a small increase in their group meal prices. Insmuchas most of the area restaurants have tremendously increased their individual prices for such reasons like market instability, etc. their reduction in items offered was perhaps the better way to maintain food quality and integrity within reasonable means and pricing.

Just went to Mr. Chinese at 7 pm and was told they arent serving in restaurant anymore today but it says on their door they are open till 8pm and there where people eating in the dining room , like what the hell is that all about grrr not impressed

Great food! Nicest Chinese meal weve had in ages. Vegetarian options: Lots of choices for non- meat dishes Parking: Parking in the winter is tight, best use the back lot. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair spot is right at the front doors and not very well marked. A van would have trouble if the has a side ramp. But theres more room if youre able to park at the back, more inconvenient though.

Horrible and expensive
Absolutely the most disgusting Chinese food I have ever eaten! I would stay away from this place unless you want short ribs thats just deepfried bones and chicken balls with only batter. Fried rice is wack. Spend $45 and threw away all the food. I didnt even get a fortune in my fortune cookie!!!!

My meal was absolutely horrible, my rice tastes like melted plastic, my beef was so over cooked it was like chewing on dried up beef jerky (or leather) the chicken balls were soggy and the chicken inside was extremely dry. I paid over $80.00 for this horrific meal! Don t make the same mistake I made

Low mein was sooo salty The BonBon ribs were unique and delicious. The large portion of wonton soup was the highlight.
Meets the basic requirements of food. Could tell a lot is pre-made and food quality overall was pretty low. Service was excellent and the atmosphere is nice but food was at or below par.
Staff was very friendly and helpful. The beef with pepper had beautifully tender crispy peppers, but I found it quite salty. We also were hoping for dry breaded shrimp but got battered. a bit pricey compared to our Winnipeg pricing.

This place was buzzing and after eating there, I know why! The food was delicious!! A little pricey but I know why. Theyre delivering on flavour and quality! The staff, though super busy, did their best to balance competing priorities. We ended up dining in and we werent disappointed. The staff was pleasant and the space allowed for genuine conversation. Call to order in advance or maybe try reserving a table because they are busy sometimes. Food - 5/5!!!!

I always went to Mr. Chinese for my chinese food. I just spent $154 and got cold food again. The other most recent time was on an order for a birthday celebration maybe 6-7 months ago for $280 ..... never again will I ever order from this place again. Like seriously the wonton soup was so cold and the noodles were so over cooked. The bonbon ribs were so cold the fat had solidified. We pre-ordered around 1pm for 4:30 later that afternoon. I wasnt expecting it to be served at that time and delivered 3 hours later. Omg ASIA restaurant for me now on!!!!

Sweet and sour sauce looked and tasted like thickened ketchup. Hostess (person taking the order) was uninformed about the menu and recommended unsatisfactory substitutions despite the requested items being on the menu.
Nothing special. If I had to rate just the food and not the service it would be a 2 star. There is alot of room for quality improvement. Not what it use to be.

I had chicken fried rice (good), sweet and sour chicken balls (full of chicken and delicious) and I thought I was ordering dry garlic ribs but got ribs with a graveyal... which werent bad tasting, not fatty at all, but was a little disappointing for me I dont like gravy on food(I think I ordered #12), also order wonton to go (it was very good). Everything was fresh and was flavourful.

thick black hair on my plate (all blondes in.my family) I didnt make a fuss because restaurant was filling up. all they did was take away my meal and not charge me for it lol....I was still hungry dang it!! probably should have comped our whole table no?? on top of it I tipped the wait staff 15%....boy am I gullible lol

Food was hot and there was a lot of it. The Chicken Chow Mein was basically chunks of cabbage with large onions, no noodles and very little chicken; the Sweet & Sour Spareribs we re bone-in & sauce was separate, the vegetables were just OK as were the Spring Rolls. Very nice people & restaurant was super busy, maybe we just ordered when they were too busy?

What a wonderful time we had here. Birthday celebration with a group of 6. We had the dinner for 6 with a couple add ons. Enough food for 8 and it was all delicious. Served hot and with a smile. The staff was wonderful and friendly. I cant say enough about how good it all was. Thank you Mr. Chinese for a great evening.
It is delicious! - my 8 year old who insisted we leave a five start review. As for myself, as a Thunder Bay resident of 38 years, I ve been eating hear my entire life. The food of Mr Chinese is matched only by the service of the wonderful staff and family that run it. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian and vegan options galore. Without any compromise. Dietary restrictions: We re vegan, and they do so much more than simply accommodate. They suggest excellent options. Followed by you know what, just trust me it s going be be amazing and it always is!! Kid-friendliness: Staff made my children feel like royalty, spoke to them as adults, and my kids love going.
Our order came with 3 egg rolls and they added an extra for our extra person! Speaking of the egg rolls, they were possibly the best egg rolls I ve ever had! I would have taken a photo of the egg roll, but I ate it too fast!

My husband and I had lunch here today and we were pleased with the amazing service and delicious food options. Best wantons and egg rolls I ve had in a very long time. The chicken fried rice was amazing as well. This will be a new regular for us:)
Absolutely awful. Three times now that they were 2 hours late, no notice on the phone. They refuse to apologize or be considerate. There s more companies in town to choose from.

Great place for Canadian/American Chinese food, not many choices for the authentic stuff. Really busy during Covid, so best to order takeout. Great staff with great customer service. Clean bathrooms too.

GREAT place! I am recommending it to my friends here in SK. Nice portioning of food, clean washroom, awesome staff. The lady who serves us & table-visit us - thats who I gave my TIP. And I went to the Cashier and pay my/our bill, I didnt tip in there and the Cashier lady gave me a look and murmurs around, I just let it GO, and smiled at her. But HEY it was a long-drive & the food hit the spot :)

Just ordered a dinner for 2 from my favourite chinese restaurant. When my husband called to ask the status of our order, the girl said its only been an hour give it least another 30 to 35 minutes, it hasnt even been started yet ok fine so20 minutes later, it arrives. We ate our egg rolls first, i then scooped up some fried rice and saw two clumps of rice with a human hair. My husband threw his plate out as did I. So we paid 50 dollars for two egg rolls. Awesome thank mr. Chinese, I wont be coming back to you again.

Ordered food while passing through Thunderbay on August 11th 2020. Did not know where to order decent food from, so I was advised by hotel staff that this was the best in the city..... Boy that was wrong! Ordered the meal for 6 and substituted ginger beef into the meal. Was a bit surprised when delivery showed up and it was $170 (quite a bit above the menu, they dont mention the delivery charge etc). Figured the price it would correspond with the quality of food. Took the 2 brown bags of food back to the room to feed the family. Open it up and find the szechwan noodles and ginger beef so soupy that the styro containers were put into plastic bags which were half full of sauce. Fished out food for the family and sat down to enjoy the meal. First bite of the stir fry veggies were horrible, so badly over cooked they were like baby food. Moved onto the noodles and they were so over cooked they were like paste. Gave up on eating the food at this point (not just myself but the wife and 4 kids felt the same). At this point I decided that I needed to call the restaurant and make a Faceboom review to express the displeasure. Was informed by the female phone operator that they cant undercook the food and that the manager would call me the next day. We continued our trip out east expecting a call the next day... well no call. Left it for the next day thinking maybe they were just busy...wrong again. No call again. Went to our destination to visit family and were out of cell range for a week. Returned to cell range and found no voice-mail to show that they decided to call. Found that they didnt bother to respond or even post my Facebook review. Decided I would try to IM Mr. Chinese on FB messenger. They responded and we worked out an agreed upon refund that I was told that I had his word that I would be etransferd the agreed refund. Well that was on Saturday and today is Monday... and still no return and will not respond to Messenger as I have tried to see what the scoop is for the last 2 days. Very poorly ran family business, he claimed that he had not heard from his employee until I messaged him and that they did not have my number (which was also wrong as it was on the receipt and I provided it to the phone operator). So Mr . Chinese I think it is time you step up and do the right thing (that you gave me your word that you would do) Sincerely disappointed customer.

Good old fashioned Canadian Chinese food.
Taste not too bad. But very little meat or chicken on the orders. I ordered JJ chicken only 10% chicken and 90% green & red paprika. Same thing with tender beef, received 2 packs Styrofoam with 10% beef on each pack. Not recommended if you like meat and or chicken. If we go back again, we may only order fried rice even though the portion not big as regular Chinese restaurants.

Food was great, the ordering process was great, the delivery man was extremely friendly and Covid safe. Will definitely be ordering from here again. First time there. Delicious food. The spring rolls were big and packed with ingredients. The crispy wontons also had a good amount of meat in them too. We each ordered a combo plate. Chicken fried rice, garlic ribs and I had chicken balls and she had beef and greens. Huge portions. We had lots of left overs.
