Swiss Chalet in Thunder Bay

30 min waiting for a table, then very long waiting ( more than one hour) till they bring your order. We have dietary restrictions and I told them twice about it however they brought the food with it ( even if it is just a contamination, this is not an excuse), finally the food tases horrible. I asked for the manager and a young guy came ( I do not know if he is the manager or not), and he gave me lame excuses . Very bad experience, I will never go there again

They have that Thanksgiving feast deal, thought I would try, ordered 3 Thanksgiving feast meals, all I got was the classic, no stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Came to dine in before going to CLE on the 8th of August. Food was fantastic, but service was horrible, we were told to pre-pay our food before they started making it. there were a few other people dining in but I didnt see them being asked to pre-pay.

We had the chicken and roast beef It was a huge portion and very flavourful Kid-friendliness: The kids loved the menu, and the icecream sundaes were a massive hit.

This was probably the worst place I have been to in a long time waited about an hour for our food it wasn t busy but steady I had to ask the waitress where our food was and we finally got it after an hour, I ordered the full rack with fries and gravy and it came to the table Luke warm and the ribs were so dry, the waitress did ask me if I wanted it replaced but I did t feel the need to wait another hour lol not only that but the other 4 orders were all mixed up on the plates and was missing Caesar salad. I felt so embarrassed sitting at the table while the others were eating and then you see everywhere online that you should tip 15% for what lol

I m not impressed .just don t like badly cooked chicken that s still quite red. I returned the meal once, received another chicken dish with the same problem. Perhaps you need to replace your thermometer in the back, because when I cook chicken it s never bloody at the bone. And oh boy, they took a whooping 10% off just my meal. I did take one piece home and cooked it in the oven and it came out COOKED.

The store staff were great. On time and efficient. My only complaint is the delivery radius is too small.

the food was pretty good, i love a hot chicken sandwich but the fries were kinda mid, the server was so nice but took forever with the bills and machine, mixed up some of our drinks between us (no biggie, they were the same price anyway) a lot of our time there was just waiting on her to come to the table lol overall not my first pick for dinner but not completely disappointing

Went to the Thunder Bay Swiss Chalet with my wife, son and daughter in law. The meals we ordered were absolutely disgusting, the ribs were dry and cold, baked potato was not cooked, dinner rolls were as hard as a rock. It will be a very, very long time before any of us return. Terrible!!!

Big BIG shout out to Swiss Chalet in Thunder Bay. Ordered two full rack of rib dinners for my elderly aunt and I and picked them up. Think i was the first order of the day. Brought them home. Too chewy for my aunt. Phoned restaurant. Told the manager my issue and they sent 2 free full rack of rib dinners free of charge. Stand up restaurant. Thank you.

Everything was fabulous :) but the server at the take out counter was a true breath of fresh air. So friendly and funny as well :)

I had the quarter chicken and ribs combo. It was served with a smile at a reasonable price. I also had a Caesar drink with the meal . Well done Swiss Chalet.

How long is an appropriate wait for you food after ordering? 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes? Swiss Chalet has fallen so far from the family favourite it used to be. I dont know why I even bother trying any more.

Im going to stop going here cause they keep forgetting things in the order. Multiple times, Ive had issues with missing items or just small portions in general. Be sure to check your meals before leaving, or they arent going to do anything to remedy the situation.

My poutine didnt even have cheese curd. Chicken poutine didnt have cheese curd. Kids cheeseburger didnt have cheese. Where they out of cheese or something today. I dont understand but $63 for half of my food being missing. I dont think so dont go here

Absolutely BEST restaurant experience Ive had in this town. There is a male server there that I always see puts a smile on everyones face. He deserves a raise. My drink is never empty. And my Swiss Chalet sauce is NEVER empty either.

We typically eat here at least twice a year and this is our first bad experience in many years. Tracy was our waitress unfortunately. Once we ordered, an appetizer each and a meal, it took 25 minutes to get our soups which were both barely warm let alone hot, then 30 seconds after receiving our Luke warm soup our meals arrived. A Hot Chicken Sandwich implies a few things, although it was a chicken sandwich it was the exact opposite of hot and the fries were just as cold as the gravy. Still not the end of the world because we have had very good experiences in the past. My wife suggested sending the food back but sometimes you get the feeling that that would be handled with professionalism but this was not the case so we (our fault) decided to eat our two cold meals in silence. Well not in silence because our waitress wanted everyone in the restaurant to know she was struggling this evening instead of letting people enjoy their meals in relative quiet. 5 tables at a time does not seem like a lot but I might be mistaken. Then we asked for our bill, she then asked us two more times after that if we would like our bill, 25 minutes later I spoke to the greeter because Tracy could not be found and explained what a disappointment the meal was. No apology just an excuse that she was working on the bill. The only apology we received was by Tracy who said sorry it took management forever to correct my mistake. In over fifty years it is the first time my wife and I have never left any tip. Please do everyone a favour and amend your note on the front door that states you are fully staffed. Perhaps add but not appropriately . We understand the service industry is tougher than ever but this was 100% someone failing at there job and management choosing to do nothing about it even though it was brought to there attention, which in our case is not a comfortable thing to do.

What a disappointing experience, we ordered a family dinner for delivery. We received three paper bags of food in a cardboard box, all of which absolutely stank of cigarette smoke. The family pak includes a whole chicken, but we only received two quarters, we also didnt receive a slice of pie and two soups that were on our order. I called the toll free number, and the representative was going to rush out these missing items. The call itself was onerous and I was kept on the phone for 10 minutes in silence, I imagine they were communicating with the local store? But this left a lot to be desired. 45 minutes later, the same smoke covered stinking bags arrived, but instead of the missing items, we received a quarter chicken dinner with friends and sauce, a frozen slice of pie, but the two orders of soup were missing. Swiss Chalet does not respond to emails, I dont feel like wasting my breath with their toll free number again, and I have been short changed on chicken, served smokey food, and never did get the soup I paid for. There really has to be a better system! Why not emulate Uber Eats and improve customer service?

Took almost an hour to pay the bill and leave, unfortunately house staff had one waiter on most of the restaurant. Otherwise pleasant.

Fries were old like sitting there all day, chicken was over cooked and dry, no butter for the bread roll...was not a good experience

Made an online order...from the time the restaurant listed the food as ready until the time it arrived was near half an hour (literally a 15 minute drive) The food was ice cold and parts of the order missing. I phoned the restaurant and ma currently on 9 minutes on hold seems every delivery order is crewed up from this restaurant... am questioning why I continue to allow such poor customer service...not good value for the money

So I was at the Thunder Bay store today for my 50th birthday and sharing it with my wife she asked where do you want to go I said Swiss Chalet because I love the deep fried perogies and the chicken dinners and buns also saw the coconut cream pie which is also a favourite. Ordered the drinks and when they came I started to order to find out nope we don t have coconut cream pie or the perogies happy birthday to me right now I have to choose something else because now I already have my drink great. Why is there none of this at the store this is what a managers job is correct to manage food so you don t run out

Great server at very beginning. Order my meal, wings. It was supposed to come with carrots and ranch. I did not order another side for this specific reason. Wings came, so did the ranch. No carrots. Upon asking, she giggled and said theyre out of carrots. No apology, no substitution offered, no discount. Fine. Gotcha Head to the bathroom, the toilet paper is on the ground touching the heater. Granted it may be off, but who wants to wiped with toilet paper on the floor. Same in mens bathroom apparently. Food tasted good but this makes me not want to come back

We ordered takeout from here. Pickup time was for 7pm. Wasn t busy but I waited around until 7:28 for our order. Get home and realize they ve left the dinner rolls out of our meal too. First and last time ordering takeout here.

We were visiting from out of province and were very excited to go here as there is no location where we live. Our server was fine, it was the manager on duty that was rude. We got our chicken and 2 plates had pink inside the chicken and it looked gross. She actually came over to try to tell us it looks like that from the cooking! I ve eaten at many Swiss chalets in my time and I ve never had pink chicken! She was incredibly rude and even charged us for the fries my husband ate even though he said he didn t want the chicken replaced. We ll never make the mistake of coming here again! The dining room was dead and it still took 45 mins to get our food. Big waste of time.

Came here since it was one of the only options for Thanksgiving. Being busy on a holiday is expected and started the evening more than understanding with the staff, but after waiting an hour and a half before even placing an order with the waitress who was clearly overworked, then an additional 40 minutes for microwaved food (ordered the veggie pot pie that came soggy and cold) is a little ridiculous. Why be open on a holiday if you cant offer the service? Not to mention offering a Thanksgiving Special and running out before dinnertime.

Gravy and fries were fairly salty. Drink order was wrong. Food order had mistakes. Waitress very abrupt and made sure to tell us over and over, it wasnt her fault instead of dealing with it. Not a good experience. We went back to try it again. This time the meal took 40 minutes people that cam after us were already eating. When the meal finally came two of the four were cold. Managers answer was ,This isnt McDonalds. For sure, their food is hot.

UPDATE What can I say. Terrible experience at Swiss Chalet Thunder Bay. Ordered at takeout, white meat, got dark, call, told next time can get free replacement. I go to store, some young kid, says he the supervisor, says cant do anything. Then gets frustrated and just storms away. I ask a lady in the back what that guys name is, she says Matthew. Then he comes flying out if the back yelling for me to get our and dont come back. Im the one that should be upset, but I was very friendly and calm. This guys nuts. Then the Seiss Chalet GM manager Riki calls me after I talked to their head office, she was useless. Only one thing was good came out of this. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK !! To everyone reading this, if something goes wrong, expect rotten service. Maybe this is one reason why the Thunder Bay Health Department rates the restaurant a B rating. Best advise stay away from Swiss Chalet. Corporate told me the manager of customer service at their headquarters will call me, but havent received a call quite frankly. I dont even think they will. So I did receive a phone call yesterday from corporate by SUMIT. He was very polite and professional. He volunteered to give us a $20 gift card. I wasnt expecting anything because we just werent going back. However, he said he would email me an electronic gift card. So I said to him, you send $40 as it was 2 meals and they were both half chickens. He said no, $20. I said okay. Funny thing is he never did email it to me. So now another let down from Swiss Chalet corporate. Unreal, but real. So I sent him a text message GTO the number he called me from. Telling him to keep the $20, but I don t want it. Told him to donate it. I never did receive a response. So this just reinforces my initial statement to stay away from SWISS CHALET and for that matter, probably at RECIPE UNLIMITED restaurants, The Keg, Harveys, Kelseys, Montanas, Second Cup and thats just some. Look up what they own and stay away.

Ordered takeout yesterday. Was a little pricey but the food was really outstanding. Ordered 2 festive special sandwiches, they consisted of a bun with tons of fresh tasty rotisserie chicken, stuffing and cranberry sauce. I dipped it in gravy and it was amazing. It came with a side of mashed potatoes which were hot and tasty. Food came reasonably quickly and we were on our way. Thank you very much folks

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. My father is visiting thunder bay for work with a few colleagues and decided to order this for dinner at 730pm after they finished working. After an hour and a half with no food they called the location to get an update and come to find out they are closed. No one answered. All of a sudden at ten to 10 some guy pulls up to the hotel to deliver the food. Not in a Swiss chalet vehicle. No uniform. Nothing. Over two hours of waiting. Then he would not accept credit cards, cash only. When they finally got the food and say down to eat it was ice cold. Needless to say a group of 5 hungry men went to bed without eating. This is the worst customer service Ive ever seen. They spent 120 dollars on nothing. Absolutely horrible.

Service was slow, unresponsive, and rarely came to check on us, seemed understaffed but it was still a poor experience. We waiting for quite a while to give out order and the food took quite a while to come out but it was fairly busy so thats understandable. The food was very good and the dessert was tasty

We stopped in for a friends Birthday dinner after distributing MMIWG Valentines Day posters around the City. I had the 1/4 chicken dinner. The rest of my party ordered the ribs & chicken dinners. Its been years since Ive been here. Was nice to be back again. Food was good. I ordered the sweet potato fries with my chicken . Roll was nice & . Gravy was good

Very nice to be able to get out to dine. As you can see I love the chicken and rib combo and they bring you lots of napkins. Service was quick and friendly, try it out again....for the first time.

We (my wife and I and my aging parents...94 and 92) went this past Sunday for dinner. We made reservations and were seated on time.5pm...that is the end of and good comments I have. The place was maybe 1/3 rd full at best. When our server finally came by, he did say they were backed up a bit in the kitchen due to take-out orders...that is fine, but no offer as to how long we would have to wait. That wait turned into 1 hour and 40 minutes. I asked how long take out orders had to wait, I was told 20 minutes. Absolutely terrible!. I should have ordered take-out from the table. My parents were getting quite uncomfortable sitting on the hard chairs. When our order finally came, they had 2 of the 4 wrong and no utensils. The whole 2 hours and 20 minutes we were there, the server never came back to see if we wanted more water, salt pepper, nothing. As soon as our order came, we asked for the bill to be brought right away so we could leave..my parents were very uncomfortable by now. The bill took over 20 minutes to come. You can rest assured we will never return.

Great food Great service. A recent visit to Swiss Chalet with friends was very satisfying. Sides the obvious great company, Swiss Chalet did a great job with Service and food quality. Given that all restaurants are now struggling to get back clientele and turn things around as before, Swiss Chalet is doing a great job managing these challenges. Thanks to the management and all the staff for a nice dinner and a lovely atmosphere to enjoy it.

We had the chicken pot pie. It was good, with a fairly decent fluffy top reminiscent of some of the pub pies I liked when I was overseas, but not as nice. The meal was more like something I can buy at a frozen food section, to be heated in my oven at home. At least it was hot throughout, which makes it better.

Good food but, a terrible website and app experience. A real put down. Can never place an order without an endless plethora of issues ranging from issues with the app, miscommunication between the customer service and the store. Disappointed that a major chain of restaurants cant design a functioning website or app. Even a local reataurant has a better functioning system and service.

First time here and the food was amazing. The service we had was top notch. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...

First time Ive ever had Swiss chalet, and I absolutely loved it!!

I tried to order delivery at this location but they still do not have their phone system linking to their call centre fixed yet. It simply hangs up on you. This has been an issue for months which means the manager must be incompetent and they do not want my money.

Just had to walk out of this restaurant which is a first. When we entered the restaurant we were asked if we wanted a booth or table. I said booth. The hostess grabbed dirty dishes off a table and tried to sit us there. I asked again for a booth and after a death glare she put us at a booth ( my son has autism and the table was on a very busy area which was explained to her) sat at the table waiting for a long time while others came and were served so finally we walked out. I m like 90% sure we were treated this way because of asking for accommodations for my autistic son so I m glad we didn t spend a cent there.

Waitress and rice both stone cold and chicken was some what warm got a new plate with fries but no fork had to get my own and no bun on this one! never coming back here again

We ordered the family dinner for pick up. It was ready on time, the chicken was juicy, the the sides were great. The coleslaw portion was very generous. This may not be gourmet eating , but it was very good. Would recommend it. Compared to the Swiss Chalet in Peterborough Ontario, the difference was night and day.

Worst waitress weve had in a long time. Had to ask a different server for missing things and then refills on drinks. She was not that busy she couldnt have come by and asked if we needed anything.

I own and operate a contracting company, I became tired of drive thru fast food and decided to try Swiss Chalet out. 15-20 minutes was all it took and quite possibly the best meal I have had in years. I had a bad experience with a takeout order from swiss chalet. I contacted the customer service and they got back to me soon enough and offered me a complimentary meal that too maintaining the high standards that swiss chalet always keep. Appreciating Mr. Ryan Johnson for the quick response.

Went for a family birthday dinner. We did reserve but it was not marked in their book. Dinner took forever and some dinners were cold, wrong or missing something. Paris our waitress was excellent and very apologetic for the services that evening . Very disappointed!

The food tasted amazing but the service for dine in was really low standard. Never offered some napkins, condiments and was least attentive towards the customer. The host was amazing tho.

I like Swiss Chalet of course since covid came things have changed like no more ketchup, salt; peppe,r on the tables but its still all good Im not critical people are human and some visits may be better than others but all in all Im very happy.

we got the thanksgiving takeout and it was super quick and so so yummy! had all the fixes for such a good price it was a great decision to eat here

Menu was predictable and tasty! We enjoyed the Thanksgiving specials. Pecan pie was excellent. The dining room was well-spaced for Covid19 safety.

Tasty burger and great chicken soup.
