It was awful both my daughter and granddaughter had hair in theyre food. Service was slow

The food was ok. Wheelchair accessibility: There are no washrooms on the main floor and the stairs down to the washrooms are narrow. The upstairs washrooms require a spiral staircase and another set of steps.

The kimchi fries are gold on a plate.

We had the Sov Burger, side of poutine , fried cauliflower, empanadas, and drinks. Soooo yum!!!

Probably the best bar in TBay! A beautiful place to eat or drink during the day & the only bar that at night doesnt feel like a dive bar Great service! The bartenders were attentive, even though they were crazy busy!. In my opinion, they could use an extra hand, designated too running around, serve drinks to tables, wipe the outer edges of the bar & collecting empties.

We were in from kenora and wanted something other than out boring menus. This place was amazing. The space is simple, but everything else in incredible. I loves the drinks, service, and food. Im seriously considering finding reasons to come back to town just so we can work our way through the menu. Food

Bottom line: declining quality, not worth your money. My partner and I have been to Sovereign Room many times over the past two years. Generally we enjoy the food. The menu changes regularly and the dishes are contemporary and call on a variety of cultures for inspiration. On our most recent visit we noticed a significant drop in food quality. We split the Beef Khao Soi and Duck Gnocchi. The Khao Soi broth was bland. Mildly spicy but otherwise lacking much flavor. The beef was tender to the point of being mushy and also flavourless. The fried noodles were either straight from a bag, or somehow convinced us that they were. The duck gnocchi was especially bad - overcooked bloated mush, not resembling the authentic product in texture, which is particularly insulting in a city full of home cooked Italian food. The roux in the sauce was split and under cooked, the dominant flavor in the dish being uncooked flour. The duck, much like the beef, was a flavorless mush. I would guess this kitchen is using either a sous vide or braising their meats at length in order to avoid having to cook to order or involve any real skill in preparing their dishes. The only distinguishable flavor other than flour was stale Parmesan. Service was fine but generally lacking. We were not given a pitcher of water like the other tables around us, and when my glass was empty it was not refilled. Prices are above average for the product. Theyre attempting to sit at the table with Tomlin and other high end restaurants in the city but punching in a much lighter weight category.

You have to try the duck poutine. Place is run down/gives off dive bar vibes but the food is actually 10/10

Amazing. 2 years now of the valentines day sitting, and its unbelievable each time. Ive never tasted anything like it and have said that TWO years in a row now. Definitely some magic going on in that kitchen. Food : 5/5

Chicken and Waffle Tuesday? Gawddddd damn! Delicious. Drinks are plentiful with a great music selection and atmosphere! Pizzas are amazingly good. Marie is awesome. Come check out the atmosphere and watch an old vhs movie on the big screen!

My favourite bar in Thunder Bay -- the chillest vibe, excellent snacks, great beer menu. Parking: Parking is free on weekends

The atmosphere is honestly a bit dim but the food is so delicious and so are the beers. If you want to indulge in heavy beers and heavy food this is the spot in Thunder Bay.

Got burgers and poutine with some beers to wash them down. Everything was great and I enjoyed the beers I had. Definitely worth checking out.

Pleasantly surprised that the apple smoked wings with blue cheese dip was so delicious! Then the chicken burger with kimchi and home cut fries were out of this world. My Dad loved the fig and rocket pizza. Service and cost was great too.

It didnt wow me with its decor when we went in, but as the saying goes, you cant judge a book by its cover. Food was amazing! A step above the everyday offerings of standard pub fare. I recommend the Sov burger, if youre a burger fan.

Just had a wonderful meal, everything was delicious, we ordered the gnocchi and ordered the duck breast. All the food was perfectly cooked, and well presented. I was thrilled that they had Murphys on tap, hard to find in my neck of the woods. We finished with a pumpkin Swiss roll. Fantastic! There was bacon in the whipped cream which paired perfectly with the pumpkin and spices. We did find that it was a bit loud for us, though that could just be our preference. The staff was friendly and personable. We were well looked after all night.

Excellent service, and fast turnaround to receive our food. The quality of the food reflects how great the service was. 100% will be going back.

The coolest spot in town for unique food and a great beer listing. Marie behind the bar is an institution in the city.

A highly worthwhile restaurant/pub to stop by if you are in Thunder Bay. I highly recommend the fried chicken or the duck poutine.

Good collection of stouts, friendly staff and bartender gave free samples too :)) Unfortunately kitchen was closed by the time we arrived... Will try and visit again soon.

I am sorry to say that that was nothing short of having nearly a racist experience. I do not appreciate being treated like a second class citizen, when I have money to buy good food. And I know they have a very excellent menu but I am sorry to say that the staff has attitude issues that are uncurable

Nice spot downtown Port Arthur. Bartender mixed some tasty drinks and the food was very good. Our server was excellent.

Had dinner there; At $20 for a burger + fries, it can be a bit pricey. Service was great, and enjoyed the atmosphere on a nice summer evening.

Great place to eat in TBay. One of the best laughs I ever had in a restaurant was here. I said Id like the pepperoni and cheese pizza please and the lovely server responded with a confused look on their face Um...do you mean the Pep and Cheese? (which is the name of it on the menu). I will cherish that memory forever and I tell this story more often than I care to admit.

I ordered the beef short rib and it was fall off the bone. The prices were reasonable and the server was very nice. Other dishes at the table included one of the pasta specials and the famous duck poutine. I tried a bit of the poutine and would recommend trying it. I would classify the atmosphere as older pub feel but the food is surprisingly different than youd think, based on the interior. I would go back if I lived in Thunder Bay or even when I visit next.

The food here is so good. We had the fried cauliflower (the batter was delicious!) and hotline chicken to start. Came out fast and fresh and the portions were surprisingly large! We also tried the pancetta and goat cheese pizza as well as the flammekeuche. Both were super yummy and again, way larger than expected. Lots of variety for drinks including some tasty non alcoholic cocktails. Service was friendly and the atmosphere is cozy - the booths have high backs so it feels almost private.

Waitress was extremely rude to my best friend hoddle, drinks were way too expensive and no pitchers after 10pm?? Hmmmm???!?!!?! She wouldn t even give us a candle for our table, $49 for 4 Long Island iced teas

The sovereign never disappoints. My daughters are vegetarian and they had plenty of delicious options to eat. The fried cauliflower is their favourite. If you aren t a vegetarian and enjoy kimchi, I highly suggest the kimchi deluxe. It s a poutine without gravy but instead kimchi, Sriracha mayo, with roasted Brussels sprouts and pork belly on crispy fries. Another seasonal favourite is the homemade eggnog with maple whiskey.

Restaurant hours on Google are incorrect. Actually doesnt open until 4pm. My family was excited to eat here and planned our day to arrive at 3pm. Sad to find out it didnt open until 4pm. I am sure the food is 5 star, sad to miss it.

The now-defunct Where to Eat in Canada recommended the Sovereign Room and with good reason. We shared the cauliflower bites which were fried in the most delicious zesty, lemony coating paired with a lovely dipping sauce as well as the insanely indulgent duck confit poutine which currently shared top spot for not luxurious and rich poutine Ive had with a camembert poutine I once had. The duck is generous and the gravy is deeply flavoured. The fries themselves are mind-blowingly good. To finish of this rich meal, I recommend the Dantes Peak cocktail, it is such a creative cocktails, so light and refreshing, but also causes the same effect as a grappa of cutting through the full-bellied feeling. The service was also incredibly kind, rapid, and thorough. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Very hipster grunge vibe. Very nice and honest serving staff. Only popped in for a quick drink and it was ok for the price that was paid.

We were reminiscing about our trip across Canada this summer (6 months ago) and I couldn t remember if we left a review for this wonderful stop. My daughter remembered the menu and I remembered the beer menu. It was an absolute scorcher of a day, remember the heat wave of 2021?! Well the patio was all they had, but they were very accomodating with the umbrella, and the service and food and drinks were very excellent. I didn t think Thunder Bay was going to be one of the highlights of our trip, but this restaurant, and the Courthouse Hotel, really helped make it that. Great memories.

Delicious portobello mushrooms sandwich, but the kimchi fries were the highlight of the visit! Good beer selection, and very helpful service when we wanted to try local beers as we were just in town for the evening. A little pricier than your cheap diner food, but very reasonable and worth it for the quality!

Had the pretzel board and nachos while my wife played pizza roulette. Everything about the meal was amazing... All the ingredients were so fresh tasting and combined into am amazing food experience! The service was fast and attentive. Definitely going to be coming back here!

First visit and well definitely be back! We had the pretzel board, nachos and the pizza roulette. All items were definitely a labour of love from that kitchen. We would totally recommend letting the chef have the freedom to create your pizza with the roulette option.. ours was incredible. Quite simple but each ingredient was perfectly executed and complimented each other. The pretzel board came with amazing house made sausage, carmelized onions, a soft cheese, beer mustard and fresh made pretzel bread and the combination of everything was truly heavenly. I honestly cannot rate this place high enough. The atmosphere is warm and cozy and the music is great and not too loud to drown out conversation. A must stop for anyone who has never been.

Theyve set-up an outdoor patio space to accommodate social distancing measures. Servers are friendly and food is delicious. Make sure to check their hours of operation as they close certain days of the week.

Its just a great place, friendly staff, great beer selection. Noodle bowls specials are unreal!

came here for my second time Saturday evening for drinks and apps, cauli wings were amazing, same with the drinks. Just really disappointed in the service we received. I work in the service industry so i am very understanding when it comes to it but 15 minutes for our server -who didn t seem to actually be our server- to greet the table and ask for drink and another 30 minutes just to order our apps, the restaurant wasn t even that busy, everyone seemed to be waiting around for service.

By far and away the best pub in Thunder Bay. Excellent decor and feel to the place, always got classic 90s movies going on VHS on the tv, wonderful service, and the best selection of alcohol of any pub in TB. Owner based it on the hipster pubs of Toronto (ex. Nirvana, The Green Room, etc) and succeeded magnificently - in fact I like this place even more. Felt right at home - if you re a millennial in TB, this is home, for sure. 5/5

Server was nice, the cider good. The burger left something to be desired. The onion rings were way over cooked (burnt), the bun dry, the taste of the meat was okay. Heard the wings are good so if i go back Ill have those. ________________________________________________________________________ Went back again and had the weekend special pasta - baked Mac & Cheese with bacon. It was delicious.

Cannot say enough good things about this place. The fried chicken is *chef s kiss* the cauliflower were crisp but not overly oily. The sauces were perfectly paired. The burgers was delicious! 10/10 would go again.

We got takeout from here and it was just alright. I wasnt wowed by any of the items we got, particularly for the price. We ordered the sovereign burger, mint & melon salad and spicy Hawaiian pizza. The salad was a lot of dressing and arugula, not much else for $16. It was all pretty basic and not overly flavourful.

This use to be one of my favourite places to eat. Ive ordered food now twice in the past month and was so terribly disappointed that they have made changes to their regular food items. To start, their horrible judgement when they switched their fries to shoestring and now the fried chicken is half the size it use to be. I know covid has had a huge impact on restaurants but cutting costs on your menu items is a huge mistake. Youve lost a loyal customer.

The Sov has the BEST fried chicken in the city! Their staff are always so nice, and the atmosphere is so cozy. I love it here!

Best place for beers in T Bay. Bottles and cans ordered from the province. Had unique drafts on while I was there too.

Hubby and I are infrequent visitors to this restaurant, we maybe come here a few times a year but always order the same thing and its always great. Although, our last takeout order was quite sad and we were left hungry, before we couldnt finish our meal. We always order the same thing, poutines with the buttermilk chicken. The poutines used to fill the entire bottom of the carton, now the portions we received were half of that. The flavours were nothing to get excited over this time. We received the food without a bag too, most places they wouldnt expect you to juggle 4 hot cartons of food. Were really disappointed with what we received and there was no customer service. We understand that sometimes restaurants will have an inconsistent day and this is most likely not a new normal for them, but it was so bad we will not be returning anytime soon.

Dont know why I tried the potato latkes out of all things. The meat on top of it was so rubbery and tough I couldnt bite it. The latkes were just mashed potatoes... no potato pancake... I would visit again to try out some of the other foods though, just not the latkes.

Wings were awesome, wasnt a fan of the raw salsa on the nachos but the nachos were good. Beers were good, could stand to be larger, although the same could be said for all beers on tap in Thunder Bay. The server didnt get the bill quite right but we had moved to a booth and changed servers after we had already had one beer. Overall we enjoyed it.

The food is always changing and I can always find something amazing to order. This is the place that put gastropubs on the map for Thunder Bay.. Prices are very good. That fried chicken though... yum! We rolled in after a couple of drinks, ordered the prosciutto and fig pizza, veggie burger, and fried chicken. I was very pleasantly surprised (never ate here before this since we are from out of town) by both the portions and the flavours! So delicious. Highly recommend making this a stop if youre a foodie.

The Sovereign Room is a versatile establishment that offers more than your ordinary gastropub. The refreshing food and drink and well-mannered staff are rivaled only by their appreciation for small bathrooms. Claustrophiliacs come from miles around to stand in awe of some of the countrys finest in microscopic craftsmanship. The secrecy surrounding the mastery of such artistry may never be fully revealed to us, but at least you can enjoy some world-class tendies while you wait in line to relieve yourself.

Fantastic local restaurant / pub. The pizzas herr are amazing and so are many of the other menu items. Large portions of great food for a good price, what more could you want. There is also a sizeable beer menu.

Excellent food and beer selection. Went with the Roulette pizzas (chefs choice) and got duck confit pizza and chicken Caesar salad pizza, both awesome. The potatoes are kimchi were excellent but massive. Way too much food in general.

Their burger is amazing. Came from out of country with my faf and this was the first meal we had. It was delicious. Benches are hard and the restaurant has a lot of noise.

The sovereign room was excellent because you have the pleasure to experience the pub atmosphere with food that you would not be able to experience in a pub. For early dinner I ordered the burger. I was told its a sovereign room classic and I was no disappointed. Everything is made in house and you can taste it. The ketchup was a really standout of the meal. A member of my party how ever was not to pleased with his selected dish. The weeklypasta special. The situation was corrected swiftly and pleasent. I look forward to returning.

A lovely little place to come to on a Sunday, with a date or a friend. Tried the Thai lettuce wraps this weekend, and the potato/kimchi the last. Both are great, as something new.

Service was great, no complaints except people who dont close one front door before opening another.. it creates a draft. Food was amazing. I used to only go there the rare occasion Im intoxicated but visiting sober made me really appreciate this establishment. Five stars cause my experience was and has always been top knoch.
