The Golden Wok in Thunder Bay

The entire experience could be rated amazing. The food tasted great with large portions and great customer service from Cong L. We ordered a special fried rice with crab dim sums and a combination dinner. The employees were kind and very respectful . My sister loved the garlic ribs very much.

Been coming here with my nana for years to get their noodle bowls! Absolutely amazing every time and great service!

Food was good. Deluxe wanton soup is enough to feed 4 people! The sidewalk out front was dangerous when I went there.

Ordered the shanghai noodles for 2. Excellent meal good price excellent portions. Small things like complimentary rice extra soda little extra added to the order goes a long way. Very impressed will be back to try the dragon chicken .

Please note that this review is only based on my experience. I am not trying to say that the food here is terrible, as it could have just been an off day - and everyone has those once in a while. I ordered takeout via Skip for my family one busy night. I ordered chicken balls, fried rice with beef, wantons and consomme soup. To my surprise, the order also qualified for six spring rolls - so who would say no to that?! We had to stop eating part way through. The Consomme was salty as all getout and kind of tasted a little like dish water. The chicken balls were still cold in the center and had a very unpleasant texture (like raw chicken, but it looked cooked and no one got sick). The rice was salty and tasted like it had been sitting around a while. The spring rolls were a big nope. The wantons were probably the only thing that anyone actually ended up eating - and they werent great. Even the sweet and sour or shrimp or plum or whatever that pink sauce is called was watery and flavourless. All-in-all it wasnt a great experience for our first time trying it. Unfortunately it will be our last time as first impressions are everything. But I would consider maybe grabbing something that is Vietnamese from there just to try it. After all, I DID order Chinese food from a Vietnamese restaurant. So that could be the key. I gave two stars because the food actually came out ridiculously fast.

We were a bit concerned about the car in the neighbourhood, but we moved it closer to where we could see it from our table. We look forward to returning on our next trip to Thunder Bay!

Terrible terrible Chinese. Lemon chicken was just sour chicken balls and the sweet sour sauce was watery and gross. Beef and greens was just burnt greens with translucent slices of rarified beef.

Editing my past review. There is a new owner of The Golden Wok as of maybe 2023? The noodle bowl is not as delicious as the old one so I am changing my review to 4 stars. However I still had a great lunch and will come back here. The new owners have better hours and are open later. Service wasn t great as they didn t come to the table for a while after I sat down so I ordered at the bar - but that will likely be ironed out over time. They were very friendly. Parking is never a problem either.

I ordered the Everything noodle bowl and it was HUGE! Loads of meat and shrimp. The flavours were delicious. I took a star off because the spring rolls were rolled in rice paper and it made them difficult to eat and not as pleasing as regular spring rolls.

This is a hidden Gem! The spare ribs were huge and had a special taste to them. The chicken balls were obviously homemade and so fluffy with a big chunk of chicken inside! Already told my family members to come here

These Google reviews are so fake First, we walked in and let ourselves sit wherever we wanted. Almost half of the seats had dishes and chopsticks left by the previous wave of customers. The glass tabletop was very greasy and was not wiped clean at all. I ordered two phos and a Vietnamese roll. The service was extremely slow. The pho soup was very turbid and there was no seasoning at all. I even thought there was no salt added. The meat was blanched in advance and the meat was very old. What disgusted me the most was that when the food was being served, there was an Indian chef who stuck his thumb into the soup Total price after tax $80

The worst pho I have ever tasted.. the soup tasted very blank like water. When I have told them they said they will fix it but have brought out the same. They said they just poured the new broth but how can I trust what they could have done with the soup in the kitchen. Why can t they just make new soup? The price is very uselessly expensive for no taste food. Hope the owner learns how to cook properly.. I wouldnt even give one star.

Over priced. Wontons and chicken balls were good, but the rice was very bland, and the bon bon ribs were dry, crispy, way over cooked, did not touch them after first bite.

Ordered the dinner for two with a substitution and added an order of fried wontons. When I opened the bag I found out we had food sufficient to feed 4-5 (or two really, REALLY hungry people)! Food was excellent. Portions were generous. Service for pick-up was friendly and my order was ready when I arrived within the time estimated over the phone. Price seemed fair, but after seeing the portions and having the food, Id say the price was great! Highly recommend!

With the few take out orders our food took a while.but reasonable All food was freshly cooked Shanghai noodles werent quit as expected but was tasty and plentiful GD had # 5 bonbon and were really good. Chicken fried rice was nicely cooked but could use a bit more flavor I had number 3 with breaded shrimp. More batter than shrimp but good. I just want to say how amazing the new owner of the restaurant, Tony, is. He came over to our table multiple times to check on us, and personally came to our table at the end to see how our meal was, which was absolutely delicious. The bon bon spare ribs were absolutely amazing and my mom thoroughly enjoyed the sweet and sour shrimp.

The food is fresh and always well presented, and the portions are plentiful. Just as important, the service is great, the staff are really welcoming, even when Im just picking up.

Omg have I been here since I was 19? Ive been a customer for more than 200 visits, at least. Any type of noodle bowl I love, especially with their hot sauce that come with the green lid it a type of Sriracha. Theyve even delivered to my house when the delivery guy was gone. The owners just make me smile.

Ordered chinese food from here and maybe that was the issue, maybe I should have ordered Vietnamese food. We got the dinner for 3. The chicken balls were huge but 80% of it was the dough, you had to take a couple bites to find the tiny chicken piece. The sweet and sour sauce tasted so much like ginger, never had that before and never want to again. We ended up using plum sauce packets over the chicken balls. The ribs were already in the sweet amd sour sauce so no avoiding it there, but there was almost no meat on those ribs. Overall, not impressed. This place came highly recommended to us, but we did not see the great food they had talked about.

It looks very good. It doesnt have the pure taste of Vietnamese noodles. The beef is very dry and woody, and the fried food is okay. It feels like the boss has been away from Vietnam for too many years. The taste is average, but there are not many other options in the local area.

Looking for some good Vietnamese food in Thunder Bay, you gotta eat here. Although unassuming at first glance, just step inside this restaurant. Friends server and staff who can tell what s really great on the menu. The noodle bowl was overflowing with delicious ingredients. I ended up bringing half of it home for tomorrow s lunch. This place is bustling so you know the locals love it. The lone server was working hard to make everyone happy and he did a great job. I will definitely come back when I am in town!

I got Golden Wok through Doordash and I was really disappointed in the quality of food. The salad rolls were warm which is fine but they fell apart as soon as I picked them up. The sauce for the salad roll is this weird sugary corn starch sauce that is unpalatable, very cheaply made. The noodle bowl was full of broken noodles which were warm but the meat was stone cold and dry. I have ordered these dishes many times from other places through skip or Uber eats and have never see such poor execution.

Best Rice, Bon Bon & Sweet Sour Chicken Ball Combo I ve had in Canada. Bon Bon s/Chicken Balls are the biggest sized I ve had, both meats were tender and chicken ball coating was fluffy and moist. Egg rolls are awesome. Staff are very friendly, clean atmosphere, great prices and amazing food.

Just..ok. We ordered a few things from here, and while the vermicelli bowl was good, everything else was disappointing. We ordered a few dishes, the most disappointing being the spring rolls ( rice paper ones ) . They weren t even wrapped and falling apart in the container. Stir fry was also pretty bland.

Make sure to check your to-go bag if you order takeout. Tonight was the second time this year that we paid for sweet and sour wontons only to get home and find that this restaurant didnt put the sweet and sour sauce in the bag.(which really makes the meal, won tons without the red sweet and sour sauce are barely edible, similar to chicken balls.) So When I call them to inform them they say OK if you come back right now well give it you, I tell them I live in current river which is roughly a 30 minute drive, I worked 10 hours today, I cant leave my dinner, drive back to the restaurant and get home after 7 to finally be able to eat (a now cold meal,) and she says okay thankyouuuu, thank you bye and hangs up. After I also tipped them 10%. (We usually tip 10-15% every time we get take out because businesses have been struggling, and we base the amount (10 or 15) based off of our last experience,) well now IF we ever do go back to this place it will be 0% every time no matter what, I cant believe I tipped just to ripped off and then hung up on. Normally the best noodle bowls and spring rolls in town. Just be careful not to order delivery. My order was an hour later than I was quoted. When I contacted the establishment to notify them.that my spring rolls (we ordered 6 plus the ones in the noodle bowls) were cold and mushy, dripping with grease, I was told they would come.back and get it but would only refund me half of what I paid. When I agreed to return the food but wanted a full refund the response I received was youve got to be kidding me, it wasnt even that long. Very unfortunate that I received that response as I eat there quite often and regularly recommend to others.

Hands down the best fried rice in town!! Theyre so accommodating, I told them not to add chicken in my meal and they made sure to not add chicken. This was my second time ordering from them. There are not many vegetarian options, but theyre very accommodating. And I literally just wrote a note on my online delivery app. The quantity however is a little less. But the taste and service make up for it. Will definitely be ordering again!

The food was probably good when it was cooked the first time. Mine was definitely microwaved. The egg roll was floppy like a piece of paper towel. My wontons were soggy and the chicken balls were hard as rocks. I am definitely never going back.

This little beautiful restaurant stays close to the city hall bus stop then it would be a good option for ones travel around the city by bus, like student ( we are.LOL. My friend and I came here after the lunch time. As the owner said the crowded time is about 12-1pm. We are served the best dish of this restaurant noodle bowl and vegetable fried rice with tofu. The whole noodle bowl was so good, pork is soft enough to chew ( some from other restaurant could be too hard and burnt), the spring roll is crunchy and the shrimp is so perfect as the black line = sand vein have been removed ( If the shrimp still have this one, OMG the sand would damage the whole bow- It did happen to me in another restaurant). The fish sauce with hot chili made the taste rising high. The fried rice also spiced with tofu as we ordered. We also have deep fried wonton and my friend ordered one for his wife with another big noodle bowl. One thing attracted me is the style of the dish they choose. The dishes did make the meal look like a piece of art. Totally for all was 52.88$ after tax. I must recommend this one as this one has a good environment which could give you a cozy area for your family. The art pieces on the wall were so nice. There are two corners on each side of the main entry which could be a perfect corner for who wants a private space. It stays near he city hall and among many offices then it is a good option for lunch for the office staff. The mirror in the male restroom surprised me. Like this style. LOL. Recommend this.
