Restaurant & Lounge
I attended a dance event at Maison Tribe and was not pleased by how the staff treated the organizers of the event. They made them wait, they compromised the energy and ambience of the event due to a bad start and it was unfortunate because it was an event many people, including myself, were looking forward to.
THEY ARE SCAMMERS and VIOLENT TOO!! Please do yourself a favour and stay far, far away from this place. I'm astonished as to how such a lousy establishment exists at a prime Yonge & St. Clair location. The story: We rented this restaurant for Saturday June 22nd, from 10 pm until 3 am. We were assured the restaurant would be closed (for dine-in) as from 9 pm, reserved for us and the event we were organizing (a social dancing event). We arrived at around 9:05 pm and found no dining chairs and tables had been moved (we were told they would be moved by 9 pm). Instead, we found someone (we would later find to be the owner) cussing at a delivery person, and there were guests that were seated and ordering food. Perhaps they were wrapping up, we thought. Instead, we focused on setting up the DJs. It took about 15 mins to get the owner's attention with regards to where to connect our equipment. Interestingly, even though he had breached the first part of our agreement (have the venue ready, free of chairs/tables and dine-in customers by 9 pm), he was the one upset and annoyed at having to help us. Bad start, but we thought OK - even if he's rude - we get the music started, perhaps the dine-in customers will be gone by 10 pm and the chairs/tables will be moved then. 10:20 pm goes by and our dancing guests start arriving. At that point, the dine-in customers are STILL in the process of ordering food! We grow frustrated and remind the owner and venue manager (who had just arrived) of our agreements, but they fall to deaf ears. Not only that, but the owner decides, on the spot, that we are no longer able to continue our party until 3 am as per our agreement, and that we must instead finish at 2 am. At 10:40 pm, as one of the DJs, I decide I've done enough waiting and I stop playing music. The owner furiously stomps towards me and asks why I've stopped. I said: "we are 40 mins behind and I was paid to cater to my guests, not yours". He warns me not to be rude and threatens to cancel this party (that hasn't even started). At this point, he was up in my face and pointing his finger at me. I told him to get away from me and to not point his finger at me. He had to be restrained by a few guests and finally walked away once the music resumed, muttering either: "I will find you" or "You will find out". I'm glad I decided to de-escalate the matter in this moment, as I otherwise feel I would have had to call law enforcement on this brute. To summarize: they had double-booked us and another birthday party. And if it wasn't for the birthday girl being gracious enough to 'end' her party earlier, our party (for which we paid for) would have likely never started. To top it all off: they are withholding part of our deposit, fabricating all sorts of excuses, the latest being that we didn't clean the washrooms (it was never stipulated in our agreement, whether in writing or even verbally). There are some people you just DO NOT do business with - those are some of those people. They don't respect agreements, they scam people and threaten you (physically) when you retaliate. You won't just lose your money there - you will probably be assaulted too!
Growing up in the neighbourhood to the east of here, Moore Park, I was starving for anything interesting and authentic. I felt I grew up in the whitest and most sterile place in the universe and even wrote songs and traveled the world singing about how boring Canada is and how brainwashed the culture is. My neighbourhood was filled with boring white people and that's all and I went to live in Serbia and then Thailand to get the spice of life. On a short visit to visit my beloved family in Toronto, I was going home on Saturday night (23.06.2024) at 1AM and I noticed Maison Tribe. It was popping with Latino and African music. I went in and I felt welcome, even though I was the only white person there. I danced for a while and it was super fun. The opposite of the boring place I thought I was from. Thank you Maison Tribe.
This place is like hell. The staff is very discriminatory and they are so much disrespectful towards the customers. Also, I saw a staff person disparaging a delivery driver one day for no valid reason in front of me just because he was a delivery boy. This is wrong for being so rude to those hardworking people who work during all weather conditions so we can chill and relax at home enjoying our favourite meals being delivered to us.
Had a wonderful extended lunch with my aunt! The food was plentiful & delicious, service attentive and ambiance a perfect West African oasis in mid-town T. O. The artwork and popular West African music playing in the background are perfect touches to this gem of an eatery. Highly recommend eating in to enjoy all that Maison Tribe has to offer. Would have liked to sample their meat pies and dessert coconut cake. Maybe next time😋
We came as a party of three on Friday night with high expectations as we live metres from the place, are foodies and have had Nigerian food before so we were excited to have an African restaurant so close to home. From the moment we walked in we didn’t feel welcomed. The place was empty, the tables were not set and the girl who served us wasn’t very welcoming or friendly and didn’t pay too much attention to us throughout the night. We ordered the spicy goat beef (which were just bones so my friend ate nothing- it doesn’t come with a side so it needs to come with a side), the banga soup and the okro soup. The soups came with a side of pounded yam. The portions were a bit on the smaller side so we left not feeling quite full. For the price we paid I expected a bit more. The food was however delicious and spicy. We tried to flag the waitress to get more napkins and water but she was in the kitchen talking to others or on her phone so we basically had one glass of water all night. The owner brought us water just when we asked for the bill. The ambiance is cool, the food is good but on the pricey side. Each dish is $25-$35 so not a place I would regularly come to or order from and the customer service left much to be desired as the staff is not at all attentive.
Glad we run into this first West African restaurant in the neighborhood! Overall it was a very nice experience! The waiter was friendly and attentive! We ordered the beef burger with fries and the rice bowl with our own choice of rice, potain and veggies/salad. The sauce of the burger tasted nice and special while the fries were average. For the rice bowl, we choose the jollof rice, which was flavorful. The fish was nicely seasoned, the skin was crispy and the meat was tender. Coleslaw was creamy but on the plain side. The sauce on the side was said to be a special sauce made by the chef, but it both looked and tasted like thousand Island sauce for me. Loved the art on the walls of this resto! Glad we got a 20% off discount for the grand opening.
The food is spicy and aromatic.. cocktails made by experienced mixologist... and service sets this restaurant apart from others in the Yonge / St Clair area.
Amazing customer service and tasty food
Don t even know how to run the business. Learn to how to respect people. Food
Food is amazing with a great authentic vibe.
Perfect place to catch up with a friend. We enjoyed the food, particularly the jollof rice. I plan to be back soon:) Food
Pretty cool Parking: Well, we had to park at the back of the building, very close to the kitchen. The car lot there isnt too spacious Food : 3/5 |
From the food, to the decor and ambiance, all the way down to the entertainment. Maison Tribe is the perfect place to enjoy a nice meal with great vibes.
Great service and jollof was nice and smokey!
The food is excellent and the staff is wonderful. I definitely recommend this place!
Very unprofessional staff..
The customer service was amazing and the food was excellent! I ll definitely be coming back again. I strongly recommend if you re looking for really good nigerian food 10/10
Delicious
So tasty and so good !
Ambience is great, excellent service and great food. Especially the banga and goat meat pepper soup. That slaps.
Very bad staff specially the front desk male guy, always rude and never talk without anger on face. Not happy with the sevice
I went there on opening day, never tried Nigerian food in my life and it was surprisingly good. I tried their beef suya and jollof rice. Service was friendly and attentive. I love the decor. I suggest you to give it a try if you are in the neighborhood. Highly recommended.
Great food and friendly service :)
I was really excited to try Nigerian food and this was disappointing. Meat is over cooked and hard, and the spice over powers all the other flavours. I don t think I ll try it again.
Bad resturant
This is Toronto s Best New Restaurant! I ate here with my wife on a date night and the food, service and ambiance were all outstanding. I live to eat, so finding a new restaurant that delivers all three makes my day. In the case of Maison Tribe, I have to say it s the most flavourful food I have eaten in years. Each dish was something I have never had before. The spices were a treat for my tastebuds. The chicken was sublimely cooked and the sauces were very tasty. I couldn t be happier that Yonge and St Clair now has a new dining venue that is unlike anything I have ever tasted. I ll be back there soon to try all the dishes that I missed during our first visit. As they say, you have to try this place to believe it.
Long wait time
Wastes a lot of time . Never got order on time.
Always late for delivery
The worst restaurant in Toronto, it s always late, and the food it s not properly packaged.
Very bad customer service and rude talking. Always waiting more than 20 minutes to get delivery orders.

I discovered this gem at St Clair Avenue. Ordered jollof rice and banga soup. it was really good. Meat was soft and chewy. The rice was very delicious. The ambience was great and service was pretty fast. Friendly service and delicious Nigerian food Vegetarian options: They are some vegetarian options available Parking: Ask the restaurant staff
One of the best Nigerian cuisine! The aesthetics is impressive highly recommended place for those that what to explore Africa meal; as well as Nigerians looking for best place to dine in this s the right spot
Reading through the reviews I think its unfair and disappointing that the delivery drivers are leaving 1 star reviews because of wait times. The restaurant owner and staff are trying to make a living in this crazy economy just like you are. Your negative reviews are hurting the restaurants image on google. You have never tried their food or sat at their restaurant and leaving negative reviews just because of one factor is ridiculous. If you have issues with wait times contact uber support or cancel the pick up. I have been ordering through uber eats and I dont mind waiting as the food quality and the portion are great. I have ordered from other restaurants that give a tiny portion of egusi for $30 and up. I love their egusi soup and that is what I usually order. I just ordered their goat meat and fried rice for delivery, very excited to try it. Hopefully will have a chance to visit the restaurant soon!
I came in for lunch with my friends we had the best experience ever, meals tasted fresh and tasty and also good portions were served, our server was very nice . Definitely coming back. Parking: Ask staff for parking
Good Nigerian cuisine and great service. Would recommend!

I am sorry for the first time I gave a bad rating to a restaurant and it really hurts me because we must be united among ourselves Africans and appreciate the efforts, its my first time in this restaurant but the waitress is zero welcome, zero service, explanation, zero smile, the presentation of my zero dish for a dish of $25.57 plus tax, the rice had the taste of burning... the man who cleaned there was more welcoming, smiling and available while he was busy...hes the kind of person we want...Im discouraged, by what I was very excited I was very excited to tell my colleagues about the restaurant, because of what we like to eat and discover new dishes every lunch.i am sorry again but the service is poor.
Best Nigerian restaurant midtown, service was really amazing keep up the good job guys
Hostile. Open a hunt house instead.
Visiting there for the first time I was excited because there is another African restaurant in Toronto. The portion was good and the meal was so delicious anyway I trust our people because we nor dey carry last. I ordered goat peppersoup to warm myself up for the cold weather and I enjoyed it. A place to visit more for this winter.
Their customer service is top-notch, I will visit again. Excellent cooking
Love the ambience, the service, the food is delicious, tasted amazing. Would definitely come back.
The best African restaurant to have a delicious meal in Toronto canada. I enjoyed their food when I came to Canada from Texas USA. Olaleye.
We went for dinner and it must be an off day or something based on how everyone else liked the restaurant. we asked the server for recommendations of nonspicy food for our children and she recommended Ayamase. it came out to be very spicy. The goat dish was tasty but the lamb chops was burnt to a crisp. We got our first glass of water and we did not get any more. We asked for our bill and it did not arrive for 20 minutes. I wish i have a more positive review because i would like to have more diverse restaurants in the neighborhood, but this was not a good experience
Wonderful first experience at Maison Tribe! The atmosphere was so fun and the food was AMAZING. This was my first time trying Nigerian food and I loved everything. The drinks are also very yummy. We ordered egusi soup with beef and fufu to start , and as our main, rice bowls with suya beef, jollof rice, and plantain. 10/10 Disregard the negative reviews from impatient Uber drivers. These reviews do not accurately reflect the experience you ll have at this restaurant.
Food was very unique and the flavours were absolutely delicious. Good value in terms of portions to cost. (Mid level.) Would recommend to anyone who enjoys this type of food or is looking to try something new.
The food is delicious and very authentic. I love the service at this restaurant. All of the servers are wonderful and attentive. The restaurant is very nice as well, it s very clean and it smells amazing
Everything we had was delicious!
Awesome restaurant!
My review is based on the food only. I ordered off UberEats and the food was well packaged; the cling film wrap makes sense. I ordered the peppersoup and ayamase. They both tasted like home, and the peppersoup cleared my sinuses lol! The ayamase looked and tasted exactly like what I had in Nigeria; it took me right back to my childhood. Whoever made the food did an amazing job, and my only gripe is that I wish they were as generous with their proteins as they were with the rice Still, I ll recommend this place based on what I ve tried so far.
I hosted a small birthday gathering with friends and the food, service and vibe were all sensational. Afrobeats playing in the background, rounded out the ambiance and chic decor. Highly recommend this spot. It would be a an ideal place to rent out for a private event. Bravo Maison Tribe!
Food was really good, and staff very friendly
