Fish - Grilled or Braised with Soy Sauce Meat - Australian Grass Fed Steaks, Australian Wagyu Steak, Iberico Pork Steak, Berkshire Pork Cutlet Clay pot rice
We found this place after seeing a review on YouTube. Despite its outward appearance, the seating area here is very limited. It's important to book this place ahead of time. I also would recommend pre-ordering your dishes ahead of time as well. When we went, we did not know how limited everything was. Many of the items I wanted to order were already pre sold out even though we were one of the first parties of the day. I ordered the seafood miso soup, the grilled branzino, and an Iberico pluma with Chinese sausage clay pot. I loved the seafood miso soup, it was different than any miso soup I've had before. The soup was thick and had many ingredients. It is much more elevated than a regular miso soup. The grilled fish was ok, it was really big and quite salty. The fish quality was good, but I think the taste was too much of the same thing and didn't have much variety. The claypot rice was really good! It was not too salty and the aroma of the ingredients penitrated throughout the dish. They offer to add soup when you are done so you can have rice soup at the end with the crispy bits!
Small but mighty! I was super excited to try this restaurant, and it did not disappoint. We ordered the octopus, fried batter cod, clay pot rice with preserved duck leg, and cheesecake. The fried batter cod was my favorite—crispy and delicious! The octopus was a close second, packed with great flavor. I wasn’t a fan of the clay pot rice, though. For the price, it wasn’t quite worth it, and I wouldn’t order it again. That said, the experience was fantastic overall. Our waiter was super nice, and the atmosphere felt fancy and inviting. I enjoyed it and would definitely come back!
We had an extraordinary meal at Fish & Loaf with their Thanksgiving set menu, and every dish exceeded our expectations. We began with the Seafood Chowder, a rich, creamy soup loaded with perfectly cooked seafood. The balance of flavors was spot on—each spoonful was a comforting, savory mix of the ocean’s finest, warming us right up. Next was the Octopus Quinoa Salad, which was a pleasant surprise. The octopus was tender and juicy, paired wonderfully with the light, nutty texture of the quinoa. The fresh herbs and dressing gave it a refreshing, zesty kick that brightened up the dish. For the mains, the Grilled Iberico Pork Steak was simply divine. It was cooked to perfection with a slight char on the outside and tender, succulent meat inside. The cabbage and rice complemented the pork beautifully, adding a satisfying crunch and subtle sweetness. The Grass Fed Prime Ribeye Steak was another highlight—juicy, rich, and flavorful with just the right amount of fat marbling. The demi-glace sauce added a deep, savory richness, and the sautéed vegetables were tender with a slight crisp, adding balance to the dish. The Grilled Kinkin Fish was a masterpiece of simplicity. The fish had a delicate, flaky texture and a mild, fresh flavor that was enhanced by a light seasoning. Paired with fluffy, perfectly steamed rice, it was pure comfort on a plate. Finally, we ended with the Souffle Cheesecake, which was the perfect mix of light and creamy. It had a lovely, subtle sweetness and a melt-in-your-mouth texture that made it hard to resist. The ambiance was warm and cozy, perfect for a Thanksgiving meal, and our waitress was exceptional. She was not only friendly but also very knowledgeable about each dish, and she recommended an excellent Arisawa Sake from Kochi Prefecture, which paired beautifully with our meal. Fish & Loaf is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates good food, great service, and a memorable dining experience. Highly recommended~~~!!!
Perusing a top restaurants of 2024 list led me here for a date night. Very minimal decor, open kitchen, and seating in the loft of this humble restaurant in an unassuming yet busy plaza. Server was attentive, asked questions and was generally friendly. Ordered the scallop chowder to start with grilled octopus and put a clay pot rice order ahead of time, as they recommended. Rich chowder with a good amount of scallops and a delicious chowder in itself. Octopus was very tender and strong in flavor. Zucchini was not my go-to for an accompanying vegetable but still tender and tasty nonetheless. We ordered the aged oyster w/ wagyu, pork steak as our mains, accompanied with boiled vegetables w/ sesame dressing and pork lard noodles. Vegetables were blanched nicely and went well with the sesame dressing. Broccolini and heirloom carrots were a good side to the pork steak. Full of flavor, tender and tasty with the maple syrup and fried burdock. Mushrooms felt like an afterthought but were still delish! Star of the show was the aged oyster w/ a slice of wagyu beef and an onsen egg. Super concentrated oyster flavor combined with the richness from the wagyu and the creaminess of the onsen egg. Pork lard noodles were not my favorite but my partner enjoyed them. Understandable how they made the list, would go out of my way to return again!
The cafe is small but it’s clean with simple decor. Food quality and service are excellent in my opinion but factoring in premium pricing in some food item I selected , I think between 4 to 5 stars. In general the food seems light tasted and less salty 👍, I can taste the original taste from the ingredients which is my kind of preference. Grilled octopus is quite good, soft and tasty, and pretty plating, seems reasonable for the asking price. Clay pot rice with preserved duck leg- I liked it alot and the preserved duck leg is homemade so it’s not salty at all , and the meat is still tender! The 飯焦 at the bottom is crunchy! And we ate half of it and save the other half, they will add dashi (Japanese broth) to soak up the rice to finish it off! Yum … but it’s $48 … $$$. I somewhat expensive but it’s good ! The coffee latte is actually not bad at all, they don’t use the dark roast bean that you get in typical restaurant… my kind of coffee - even better if they use less milk as personal preference. I think I will visit again !
This is a hidden gem of a restaurant in Scarborough. It has a very unique design. As you set upstairs, you can actually see the chefs preparing the meals in the kitchen blow. We ordered king salmon and dry aged duck confit. Both tasted very delicious, and their truffles fries were also really good. The service was exceptional. Looking forward to visit here again.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fish & Loaf, and it was an experience to remember! From the moment I walked in, the warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel right at home. The staff was incredibly attentive and friendly, ensuring that every detail was taken care of throughout the evening. Dishes list: Scallop Chowder Dry Aged Duck Confit Aged Iberico Pork Steak Grilled Octopus Kinki Fish Wild braised with house made soy sauce Yellow Eel Clay Pot Rice Bean paste & Okinawa Black sugar Syrup Organic Matcha Latte Overall, it exceeded my expectations in every way. The food was outstanding, the service was top-notch, and the ambiance was perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. I can’t wait to return and try more of their incredible dishes. Highly recommended!
I really like to share that unique dining experience at Fish and Loaf on Saturday, August 11th, 2024. The food truly exceeded our expectations, with each dish showcasing not only top quality ingredients but also a level of creativity that made every bite special. Our friends couldn't stop talking about how delicious everything was from the appetizers to the dessert, each course was a delightful surprise. The exceptional service only enhanced our experience, making us feel welcomed and well cared for throughout the meal. It’s rare to find a place where both the food and service are of such high caliber, and I'm glad we could enjoy it together. Thanks for delicious food again!
The beef/meat isn t halal but the fish is, fish and chips are amazing!!! I would come back just for the chips too very crispy and tasty Atmosphere is cute and cozy Food
Small place but warm and cozy. Many seafood and meat options. They ran out on some of stuff I ordered but offered some alternatives which are pretty good.
Pictures on their Instagram are very different (and smaller) then what you get at the restaurant. We had octopus, scallops, rice pot, vegetables, soup and more. Server was very nice. For the price, the food is very underwhelming.
Incredible food and very friendly staff. The attention to detail, quality and flavours were amusing. What a hidden gem. Cannot recommend it highly enough!
Delicious fish here with a great fusion twist on food. Beer, wine, and light drinks. Their fish got stuck in customs so we got another frozen one.
Excellent fish and chips!
Excellent flavours and presentation that created a very satisfying dining experience ;). !
This was our first time dinning here. We ordered the clay pot rice with duck leg, grilled octopus, chilled abalone, iberico pork chop, golden oyster with waygu. They were delicious. The clay pot rice is a bit pricey.
Minimalist and beautiful. Food was exceptional. We will be back! Scallops in potato foam were amazing! Gluten-free options too.
Small restaurant where seatings are on the 2nd floor ( no elevator). Servers are very friendly and food quality is good. However a few items were not available that day, and the menu originally doesnt have many options. My favorite dishes are the lamb, fish, vegetables /salad and dessert apple crumble. The black beer is very good as well.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner to celebrate my friends birthday. We ordered the aji fry and Jumbo shrimps to start. Both were deep fried perfectly without tasting greasy. The shrimps had a fresh shrimpy flavour (not like most frozen shrimps). The Iberico pork steak was perfectly seasoned and the accompaniments went well with the meat. The 3 lamb chops were again cooked perfectly but the burdock crisps were the star of the dish: crunchy packed with flavour! The apple crumble was a delight: warm with a nice balance of apples and ice cream. Will return to try their rice hotpot (ordered by all the other tables). After you finish the rice, they add stock back in to soften the crunchy rice stick at the bottom. Wheelchair accessibility: There is a long flight of stairs to access the dining area.
Exception. Service is outstanding. Food is delicious
Parking: Plenty Wheelchair accessibility: Not available Food : 4/5 |
Interesting food but not for everyone
Need to pay attention to some details
The waiter is friendly and introduces the dishes in detail. During the meal, change plates, cutlery, and forks according to the dishes.
In April I was treated to a wonderful meal at Fish & Loaf by two friends, who wrote a raving review of the restaurant on Google. We returned a few days ago (my turn to treat) and, if possible, we were even more impressed. The food, the ambience and the service were each fabulous, as was the attention to every detail. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who appreciates great food served well. I am already looking forward to my next visit!
brought my 92 year old grandfather here for a lil date one sunday evening and we enjoyed it. We enjoyed everything. Great service too
Excellent food, must try their Iberico pork. The dining place is a little too crowded, best for 2-4 ppl.
Saw this place on one of those best-new-restaurant lists and decided to stop by for dinner. We got: - Soft Shell Crab: Pretty good appetizer. A bit heavy on the batter for me, but the batter was tasty so it was fine. Loved the calamansi on the side. - Kinki Fish: This fish from Japan was pricey and small. But wow was the meat so buttery, glistening, and of the highest quality. Simple grilling perfectly showcased the fish. And the edamame side dish was so tasty I could have eaten it by itself. - Australian Wagyu Steak: Good cut, pretty tender, ok taste. I didnt try their famed iberico pork since I prefer beef, but I wish I had given what this wagyu steak was like. To be clear, it was pretty good, just not great for the price. Menu is more varied than what the restaurant name implies. Service was attentive. Kitchen was quick for the quality of food you get. Place is small but well spaced and has a casual chic vibe. Im not sure if they have the multiplier effect of the fish and loaves. But for a single visit, this place is worth a try.
At this price level, my expectations are high but it was disappointed. Food still tastes not bad, does it worth to come back and pay that price? I would rather go to omakase instead. Service is okay, it s the same service level of a regular Chinese restaurant. Again may be my expectations are high based on their prices point. The hotpot rice canes hot at the table but by the time the waitress finish mixing it and serving 5 out of 7 of us and redo the whole cycle again for our 2nd Hotpot rice to serve the rest of our 2 friends while 5 of us are just sitting there and waiting for all of us having the rice, the hotpot rice already stone cold. Pork chops came in not really fully cooked. In conclusion, I don t regret to come for the first time but I doubt I would be returning.
Slow Service: We were seated 20 minutes later than our reservation time. It was another 20 minutes for someone to take our order (after we asked). I was surprised that the staff seemed to forget about taking our orders. Then we realized many items were not available. It d be better if we knew it beforehand. By the time I had my first bite, it s almost 1 hour after I arrived the restaurant. Communication: Although the staff may mean well trying to translate the menu in a language they re not fluent in, I felt it caused some miscommunication and would rather keep the conversation in a lingua franca, as I don t really understand the Chinese translation of the food well when they used them. Food: Although my friend was not impressed with the steak he ordered, I did like the food and drinks. The ingredients were not bad, so the price point was reasonable if the service were better. - I write this review hoping they can improve these issues as I believe the restaurant has some potentials to improve. I would not recommend the restaurant to friends at this time.
Toronto s biggest hidden gem imo. Every dish is crafted with thoughtfulness, intention and refined technique. Food is underpriced given the quality. The restaurant is all class without pretentiousness. They should be lined up out the door.
Our first visit to Fish and Loaf, on our anniversary, was delightful. The service is friendly, attentive and helpful, and the food is delicious. A curious mix of Japanese and French that works wonderfully, with top quality ingredients.
Good food! Unique...the clay pot rice is great!
The atmosphere and service are both exceptional. We highly recommend the yellow eel pot rice, oysters, and dark beer. Definitely going back! It is best to make a reservation.
Ordered 2 appetizers, the fried oyster and abalone. The oysters were HUGE, they were breaded and fried very crispy with the inside so succulent and juicy. There was a light siraicha mayo and a small coleslaw with Japanese sesame dressing. Wonderful. The abalone has a small pickled tomato on the top and served in its shell already sliced up on a bed of ice with a garnish of radish sprouts. It was a delicious cold beginner for those who like seafood. The salmon came perfectly grilled with a crispy skin with fried burdock that had a hint of truffle oil (?) and grilled asparagus spears with hollandaise sauce. There is a thin pool of mashed potatoes that balanced and brought everything together. It was a very enjoyable lunch. The miso code is gone -- might be the chef will change the menu as needed. I would get this salmon again, or happily try something else next time! I was told that the branzino is a whole fish cooked in a Mediterranean style -- that might a yummy alternative for next time! The atmosphere is relatively quiet and soft jazz music in the background. The staff is happy to chat and explain the dishes. I noticed the other table having the clay pot rice (something to be enjoyed with 2 or more people) and she cautioned on the heat of the clay pot and how to enjoy the scorched rice. I will be bringing family and friends to come again! Parking: In a plaza with parking apots
Really excellent food, and wonderful service. I think my only feedback would be more lunch sized portions. Maybe something like a sandwich for the & Loaf bit of the name. Will definitely be back for dinner to enjoy some of the larger entrees!
Love it here, it s gonna to be our new favorite restaurant. Fresh and delicious dishes. Of course the service is a plus for sure.
A nice bit of fusion using higher-end Western ingredients with Chinese cooking methods. Glowing review for the octopus appetizer -- soft with a nice char and flavours. The minced pork claypot rice was good with a hearty portion size, but couldnt taste much of the XO sauce flavour and more of a crust could formed before serving. Iberico in a claypot is not something you could find in most places though. Price point is quite high, but the blow is softened by small touches like hot towels and a neat little squeeze bottle for the soy sauce blend for the rice.
Really good service The aged dry steak is a must try.
The clay pots are outstanding
We had the octopus appetizer and chowder special to start. Then the branzino and clay pot as mains. Everything was incredibly fresh and delicious (literally the best octopus Ive had this side of Greece). The service was attentive and responsive. Atmosphere was a quiet elegance and the elevated dining space provided an additional element of sophistication. Would 100% recommend and return. Check out the Toronto Life article featuring this restaurant as one of the top for 2024.
Perfectly cooked Iberico Porkchop. I preferred the bone-in option. The aged one is tasty as well. Juicy and tender. Friendly attentive service. Must try their Eel rice cooked in casserole pot. And afterwards they will slightly boil the remaining burnt rice with soup into tasty hot porridge. They will burn the rice and soak it into tea-soaked rice. There is no image of food
Took my father here for fathers day, all the food was super yummy, and the service top notch! Honestly such a cute place, not too many tables so it feels intimate, and there is free parking outside. My parents said they will definitely be back!
I recently had dinner here and it is quite a nice and unique space for private dining. The restaurant has a nice ambiance because the dining area is upstairs above the kitchen. You can look down and watch the chef and his team prepare your food. Having studied in culinary school, I suspect the chef is using traditional and classic culinary techniques within his dishes. I maybe wrong. Overall, seems like a nice place for private dinner parties.
Friendly and efficient services, nice and cozy atmosphere, tasty food and comparable markets price.
This tiny fusion restaurant is amazing with high quality food and everything is cooked to perfection. The only drawback is the far off location, I think it will be a much more successful restaurant if the location is moved to Markham or Richmond Hill.
If I could give you more than 5 stars, I would. It was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The food was delicious. We cant wait to come back.
Amazing food. Highlights were the grilled kinki fish and aged iberico pluma. I had no idea pork can be this delicious, and I usually hate fish but I cleaned it up and couldnt get enough. It is so good I reserved a table for a week later already. I wish their location would be better so more people can find out about this place and keep them in business forever. Parking: Plaza parking
We had Fried soft shell crab, Iberico Pork Chop, Australia grass Fed Rib Eye Steak. Food is great as they are curated by the Chef. We have got an Apple Crumble on the house for my husband s bday as well. Very attentive service by the staff. Highly recommend!
Came here to celebrate my partner s birthday. We enjoyed the food and ambiance, the restaurant interior was very cute. We were disappointed that the lobster tail was sold out . We drove very far to come to the restaurant so it was a bit of a bummer. We ordered the soft shell crab, truffle fries, Australian Wagyu sirloin cap steak, their special aged iberico pork pluma and apple crumble for dessert. The soft shell crab was okay- Nothing special. The fries were very addictive but the truffle taste was VERY light. The steak was great - no complaints. The pork was a bit chewy but had great flavour. The apple crumble was okay. Not what I expected - So the apple crumble the apple slice that they put on the ice cream smelled and tasted like garlic at first I thought I was tripping and maybe it was the smell coming from downstairs but I sniffed it for a little longer and I was so sure, something was wrong with this apple either it was sitting in a fridge full of garlic or it was cut with an unwashed knife/surface where the garlic touched. I let the server know after I paid that they should probably check their apples. Then she proceeds to tells me yeah I saw you smelling the apple for a long time and ask the chef to check and he said it might be the knife Okay AND?! Why didn t you ask me what was wrong when I was smelling this apple for so long?! were you not going to say anything if I didn t ask? Because you are basically telling me an unwashed knife that was used to cut garlic was used to cut my apple!! This is unacceptable for a restaurant . Even I have a separate knife and cutting board for cutting fruits at home Other than the apple, everything else was good. But this apple incident alone makes me question the cleanliness of the kitchen surfaces and tools at the restaurant
I never had such a strong feeling to write a review. Fish + Loaf. Petite restaurant in Scarborough off Lebovic. Lots of parking during lunch time. Recommend to make reservation before you go First impression, friendly staff, menu price is not bad, above average if they serve what they say. Again I would go to McDonald and write good review if the service is exceptional or something that I really like This restaurant has lots of room for improvement. The light bulbs above the dining table. It s milky and not wiped clean. You can feel the dust and grease is there. Plant pot with draining holes above your head. Sure it s nice decor How about making sure no dirt coming out while you are eating. I don t understand the reasons behind reusing same set of folk and knife from appetizer. If you want customers really taste your dish, do you want appetizers salad dressing on your main dish ? Then you said customers like to eat the burnt salmon skins because they taste like seaweed. Blackened is not charcoal. NO I you served charcoal. Even though I am not a fan of salmon skin, I tasted it and it was bitter I don t want to sound negative. I can see regular customers are in the same restaurant. So you must have done something right before. I will go back if I see more positive reviews from other customers. Good luck
I sincerely give you 5 stars The steak is cooked just right and the side dishes are also good! It can be seen that the owner put a lot of thought into it, the price is reasonable, the only deduction points are that there are too few seats and there are no homemade desserts
Fantastic experience. Best restaurant in Scarborough and of the best new restaurants in Toronto. We got the King Salmon and Iberico Pork. Delicious. Reasonably priced bottles of very decent wines.
Great dishes with superb ingredients. Try this excellent local gourmet restaurant! Parking: Local strip mall parking.
First time there. Food was really good. Appi s, mains, sides all perfectly cooked, nicely presented and most importantly delicious.
I was grocery shopping nearby and we stopped in for an impromptu dinner on a Sunday night. Wow! What a treat. The staff were so courteous, the wine, amazing! We shared the seafood platter and their coffee was amazing with a pear torte to finish. Such a hidden gem.
Food are excellent and taste is great.
Great food and top notch service. The soy sauce steamed kinki fish is a must try. I also had a very nice Iberico pork chop here. Food
Nothing is quality Their regular job is to re-boil old food looks clean on the outside But Unclean kitchen, Food : 1/5
Food
We were delighted with Fish & Loaf on our first visit. Fresh, flavourful seafood was expertly prepared and attractively plated. The small dining room was sleek and comfortable -- and even the background music was enjoyable. Service was friendly, efficient and informative. A lucky find!
My first visit here was absolutely fantastic! The food was amazing, and the service was top-notch. The Wagyu steak was incredibly tender, and the seafood platter was so flavorful. Im definitely planning to return for a casual date night and a gathering with friends.
Excellent, friendly, and timely service. Delicious dishes with satisfying portions. Clean and comfortable seating. Highly recommend the clay pot rice dishes.
The place is small. The restaurant owner made full use of every inch of space. He used a duplex design. The kitchen is placed downstairs, and the second floor is for dining. It can accommodate about 18 people. From the time I entered to the time I left, I could not smell any cooking fumes or seafood smells. I appreicated at this point. As for the service attitude, it is really impeccable. The waitress Christie was patiently explained to us the source of the ingredients and cooking. Another waitress also gave us very good service. I was impressed that she politely asked us to pay the bill. Her tone did not make me feel disgusted. Okay. Finally, in terms of food. There is nothing to complain about. If you ask me if I will patronize again, the answer is yes.
A hidden gem in Scarborough. Great food with excellent service. Loved the steak and the fish.
Food tasted freshly good, excellent service, place small, tightly seated, not spacious.
Great food here where each dish is prepared with a lot of care and the staff provide explanations for their dishes. I would recommend reserving a table ahead of time if coming for dinner on the weekend as it does get busy.
We enjoyed a wonderful lunch at Fish & Loaf. The restaurant is small but beautifully decorated. We had a table that looked over the open kitchen which is always great fun. We had the soup of the day and the branzino was equally delicious and attractively plated. I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. We will be back
I was shocked by the size of dining area. It s hardly to place plates and turn around. It s tiny. Overall the food looks good, tastes nice. However the service is pretty bad. Interesting thing is there is no welcome from the staff, only eye contact when we walk in. And service is also poor. There are too many places can provide both good quality food and service, so don t waste time and money here if you have higher expectations.
Fish and Loaf is a hidden gem tucked away on the Golden Mile. Its name is deceiving as its not only serving fish and seafood, but they cook up some pretty amazing land meats. For my friends and I, we ordered: Spanish Iberico Pork Steak (~8oz) - Served with mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal vegetables. Australian Grass Fed Striploin Steak (12-14oz) - Served with mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal vegetables. Australian Grass Fed Ribeye Steak D.Aged (12-14oz) - Served with mashed potatoes and sautéed seasonal vegetables and Demi-glace sauce. We totally enjoyed what we ordered. My Ribeye Steak was juicy and tender with a distinct rich flavour. The service was on point with attention to details. I swore the server made me feel like I was in a fine dining environment. The only thing that made me give this place a 4 star is because they were out of a few dishes on the menu. And its not like we were dining late, nor was it full house. But definitely a must try.
Amazing service, a calming place to have dinner with family and love ones. We had the yellow eel claypot rice, kinki fish slow cooked with soya. Eclectic appetizers. All foods are made with creativity, and merging cultural taste profiles and cooking methods. Kudos to Chef and your team, the care and diligence in providing TO a unique dining experience. Parking: In front of restaurant, accessible
Absolutely first class
We went for a casual dinner with not much expectations. The qualify of the food is superb. The waitress was very attentive. I especially like the yellow eel and rice hot pot. The chunks of eel taste exactly like those prepared by my late mom when I was a kid. I ordered the Iberico pork steak well done. It was very juicy and not at all chewy. We also ordered breaded oyster, mixed salad and grill octopus tentacles. All are very fresh. I don t always write review whenever I dine out but this boutiques style restaurant is such a hidden gem in Warden / Eglinton area that deserves the 5 stars
Wouldnt hesitate to return or recommend folks to pay Fish and Loaf a visit. Truly a gem in the city. Christy was amazing with her communication from the first phone call to host our event. The food compliments came in the forms of sounds such as mmmhhs and ahhhs in the group when it was served. Our requests were heard and suggestions were given as well, which we greatly appreciate. When speaking with the chef you can truly see his excitement and passion about food, and that shows in what theyve created here. Thank you again for an amazing evening, and we look forward to returning soon.
Nice restaurant, great service, great food, although portions are a bit small depending
Great food. Amazing staff.i would give this place 10 stars
My husband and I had the Iberico steak and the beef steak, and we loved both!! Some of the best steak we ve had at this price point
Amazing service! The surf and turf was cooked perfectly! Cant wait to come back!
Delayed review, but been to the resto for lunch and they were awesome :) good food (personal reco is the black cod) - but really, their sides of fries and sweet potato fries were out of the world. I did ask for a top up of the black cod since they offered. Great service as well - super attentive. The only drawback was that they didnt have too many seats and its a lil far from my place. Highly recommend giving it a try!
This restaurant is a jewel in midtown Toronto. Every dish in the Special All Day Set is so delicious! I ordered the Spanish Iberico pork steak in medium well with sauteed vegetables which was cooked to perfection. The fat from the Iberico pork got melted in the mouth. The fish that I wanted to try was sold out during Christmas. Will definitely come back to try out their dry aged fish later. Excellent dining experience with the best customer service. Two thumbs up!!
A little cozy restaurant. Great food, friendly and pleasing decor. I went there for the ibarico pork steak. Unfortunately the pork was still at customs. I switched to lamb chops and it was delicious, succulent and not gamey at all. Second visit: Had the Iberia pork steak this time. Superb. Please beware that you must eat also the fatty skirt part that melts in your mouth.
New favorite spot! From start to finish the food, experience and staff was amazing! The person that served us was attentive and took the time to explain everything on the menu and answer any questions. We had the abalone, octopus, soft shell crab, truffle fries, duck confit and the European seabass. Each dish was just incredible. They use subtle flavours to let the ingredients shine in the best way. Hands down the best restaurant in Scarborough.
Small restaurant that specializes in modern Japanese cuisine. We booked out the full restaurant for a group of 15 given its a very small place. The raw sashimi here is some of the best Ive had in the city. The other dishes were well done as well - well cooked, plated and good flavours.
We enjoyed an excellent meal. The Seabass catch of the day was perfectly cooked, moist and flavourful. The miso soup was excellent as well. Two of us ordered the rib eye steak which was delicious. The truffle fries are positively addictive. Staff is very attentive but not intrusive. We had an exceptional experience.
Excellent food prep. Very polite and attentive staff. Decor is beautiful tastefully set up. Extremely clean facilities. Delicious meals and very reasonable prices. We had soft crab app, miso soup with fish head (as recommended by chef ) sea bass, truffle fries, duck confit. Highly recommend!
A culinary Hidden Gem featuring some well executed Chinese inspired, French / Japanese fusion creation and more! Tug away inside a buzzling shopping plaza off Eglinton, this relatively newcomer, offers some rather unique, seldom found and exotic products, imported specially from overseas by the chef-owner. These include the rare and highly sought-after Kinki Fish from Japan, Organic West coast/Alaskan King Salmon, Australian shell-on Abalone, Grass fed and/or dry aged Australian Lamb and Beef, Japanese Wagyu A5 beef, Dry aged Iberico and American Berkshire Pork etc. Ever since their relatively recent stealthy opening, this place has received a whole slew of very positive reviews. High praises were given to the top-notch ingredients, meticulous standard in preparing grilled meats and the extremely competitive and value-for-quality pricing. Tonight, we decided to experience this hidden-gem first hand. The bright, airy and cavernous modern designed restaurant that welcomed us houses two stand alone spaces. An open kitchen on the ground floor with an impressive small cold room, displaying their dry aged beef and priced Kinki fish. Ascending a flight of stairs next to the kitchen leads one to a small and cozy dining room with a surprisingly small 30 people capacity! After a friendly welcome and quick introduction to the daily specials by our lady server. Our party of 3 ordered and shared the following: - Fried whole Soft Shell Crab - Chili pepper fried MonkFish nuggets - Char-grilled 14 oz Australian Grass Fed Rib-Eye - Braised Oxtail with Red Wine - Duck Confit with dressed Spring Mix Salad - Sides of Sweet Potato fries with spicy Mayo dip and Truffle French Fries. - Japanese Strawberry Souffle Cheesecake Overall, I would use the phrase A tale of two cities to describe the outcome of our meal. On the one hand, we were presented with some really superlative and exemplary executed fried and grilled food. The fried items were piping hot and totally greaseless. Moisture and juices of the ingredients were completely sealed and captured. A huge thumbs up goes to the perfectly seasoned and delectable Fried Monkfish. Savory with the right spice level, those greaseless, smoking hot and moist nuggets is one superb fried dish the best fried fish dish I have eaten for a long long time! The Australian Grass Fed Ribeye was cooked to perfection. Lovely crust on the outside and gorgeously rare inside as instructed. Texture of the beef was surprisingly tender ( the result of the rancher/farmer adding some Wagyu cross to the breed! ). The fairly pronounced beefy taste of the steak was welcoming .not too gamey or over-powering. Sadly, a couple of slightly mediocre house-specialties spoiled an otherwise delightful and enjoyable meal. Both the Braised Oxtail and Duck Confit have the correct and prerequisite savory taste profile but sadly both dishes were way under seasoned and undersalt.....rendering the end products one dimensional and bland. The thyme component of the Braised Oxtail dish in particular was a bit overwhelming. Lastly, a couple of supporting casts unexpectedly provided us with some superb and wonderful surprises. The tasty and delightful dressing used for the Spring Mix Salad and the delicious, super moist and delicate Souffle Cheesecake which was way better than Uncle Tetsu rendition! Highly recommended if one is in search of a venue for value-for-money, great quality and well prepared seafood and grilled meat.
Excellent ingredients, excellent cooking skills, not many seats but elegant
A great little place to hangout with friends and family. Went there during soft opening by reservation and was totally satisfied. Clean and cozy environment, excellent food and great servers. Tried a couple of mains and sides. Their soft shell crab sandwich and beef steaks were great, but I was totally impressed by their Osso Bucco and Dry Aged Pork Steak. Their chef, John, did a great job in controlling the salt and oil levels in the food low, while keeping the great taste intact. Price was also a steal. Will definitely go again for the pork steak and Osso Bucco. Wheelchair accessibility: Wheelchair will be difficult as there are quite some stairs.
We finally got a chance to come to this little gem to try their food tonight. The food was amazing. First, we started with the appetizer lobster bisque, chicken noodle soup, and breaded tiger shrimps. They taste good. It is not salty compared to other restaurants and definitely worth a try. The tomahawk port culet was juicy and tender. The portion is huge. The soft shell crab sandwich was tasty with the combination of the sauce and truffle fries. The dry age iberico pork steak was fantastic and it was cooked to perfection. I will definitely come back again to try out their dry age ribeye steak next time.
Fish & Loaf is the most favourite restaurant of mine. It has my favourite dishes: Lobster Bisque, Truffle Fries and Osso Bucco with Gremolata. I will definitely come back and visit again
Had a great time and dining experience at Fish and Loaf! Delicious food, comfortable atmosphere and attentive service. Love how they will have some new upcoming dry aged meats that will be ready soon. Cant wait to go and try the other dishes soon. The delicious food that we tried: Chicken noodle soup - Kid approved!!! He finished his portion and wanted more! Lobster bisque - Flavour was just right and with lobster chunks. Breaded tiger shrimp - Sauce was a nice touch. Soft shell crab sandwich - Good complement of burger and sauce to bring out the soft shell crab. Truffle fries are always welcome addition. Tomahawk pork cutlet - Huge portion and the crispy pork cutlet was done just right. Sides were a good complement. Dry aged iberico pork steak - My favourite of this whole meal! So juicy and delicious
This little gem is mighty! Clean and stylish atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff, and last but not least, high-quality ingredients and absolutely delicious food. Great dining experience and we ll certainly go back for more Australian grass-fed steak and dry aged iberico pork steak.
Finally, have an opportunity to join this soft opening. Ive started with lobster bisque whichs perfectly tasty. Chef Johns prepared Iberico pork steak as main course, tasted very delicious, he did a great job
****** is an amazing and surprising little steak house Passing by Fish & Loaf with Little Sheep, I was confused by the name of the store and couldn t figure out what kind of business it was? You have to experience it for yourself. When you enter the door, take a quick look; The first surprise is the constant-temperature meat storage cabinet on the right after entering. It contains top-quality meat that can only be found in Western-style steakhouses in international five-star hotels. The second surprise is that the kitchen and wine room are open, allowing you to see the chefs work frame. The third surprise is the streamlined dining room with 20 seats on the staircase. Its elegant decoration combines the leisure of a steakhouse and home ownership, making you feel relaxed and happy as soon as you sit down. The fourth surprise is after opening the menu; I ordered Australia grass fed beef ribeye steak + onion soup. Little Sheep ordered Berkshire pork steak + lobster soup. *The meat used in this Western-style restaurant is of high quality. The steak has enough ageing and the meat is very loose. The chef controls the grilling temperature extremely well, and the quality of the steakhouse in Huanmei Hotel is unparalleled in other Western-style restaurants in the city. - Ribeye steak, the middle part of the meat is fatty and fragrant in the mouth. - Iberico pork chop is pure, thick and sweet, chewy and crispy, with moderate rebound power. - Put the onion soup dumpling slices directly on the soup surface. The body of the dumpling will melt with the softness of the soup, and the edge will be crispy. The buns are baked first and then flame-sprayed to increase the tightness of the bun body and the crispiness of the edges. It is quite delicious. - The lobster bisque is rich and creamy. Worth a try. ** There are only 20 seats in the dining room, so it is best to make a reservation before going.
I rarely give 5 stars on a restaurant. This is an exception. This restaurant does not only serve you good and tasty food. This one also takes care of your health. I can see the chef trying so hard to balance out the level of tastiness and healthiness on the food they serve. One good example will be on the soup. You will never find a less salty but tasty soup in this business. Fish & Loaf can definitely fulfil this impossible request. From this, you can see the uniqueness here. Since it is a small restaurant, you can almost request anything which can be custom made for you in order to satisfy your need. All dishes are good as I have been here since twice. The environment is cozy and lovely. Please give them a try in order to support such a revolutionary restaurant located in Toronto.
Tastes so goooood. Good find
Food great and excellent service ! You can see the heart of chef from the food , this restaurant is major selling the quality of food , you can see the live plant at the open kitchen, you still can taste the freshness from the dish! Especially the aged beef , not from the wholesaler but made by their own (you can find aged fridge from the front door) I did try the oyster , the taste was fresh and good (they told me that just bought from market) the last thing must try is their coffee , you usually won t find coffee better than coffee shop but it is ! You can taste the layer of it , Highly recommended!
There is a new and trendy restaurant in Scarborough that has been opened for a few weeks now: Fish & Loaf Kitchen. The atmosphere and décor is quite nice. The upstairs dining area is cozy, enough to fit about 24 people. Perfect also for private gathering & parties. Staff was very attentive and welcoming. Service was excellent & our waitress was a gem. It was way over my expectations My group started off with appetizers such as their lobster bisque, hand cut truffle fries & breaded tiger shrimps. Lobster bisque had a lot of meat. The breaded shrimps, battered in Japanese panko bread crumbs, were not oily nor overcooked and the truffle fries, our group couldnt stop devouring it. That was how good they were. For our mains, two people at our table favored the Iberico Pork Steak - Dry Aged 28 days. This dish came highly recommended by our delightful waitress. Because it was dry aged 28 days, no wonder it was so tender and delicious! Go with medium. You wont regret it! I originally ordered truffle fries as my side but since our group had it as a shared appetizer already, it was highly recommended to pair it with their mashed potatoes instead. Normally, I do not opt for mashed potatoes as not a lot of establishments know how to make it, but Fish and Loaf mashed potato was so divine, light & fluffy. The parsnip really complimented well the mashed potatoes. Another great suggestion by the staff. Thumbs up! Osso Buco with Gremolta was such a tender Veal Shank!! I really enjoyed savoring the dish too, especially with the pairing with their special gremolata sauce that was freshly prepared with the mortar and pestle. Never tasted gremolata sauce before. The portion of the dish was large too. Presentation of the dishes still need to be worked on as the dishes do not look attractive at first glance but overall they are off to a good start. Pricing is reasonable for what is being offered. Fish & Loaf Kitchen menus may vary. Please visit their website for updates & changes. And great news, they are now opened for lunch, drinks & pastries! Cant wait to go back and try their new items. Reservations is a must as this place will get busy as word gets out
Food was delicious and service was excellent and warm. Enjoyed the Osso Buco which was rich - especially the marrow! Also liked the fried oysters and grass fed ribeye which was cooked to perfect doneness. Highly recommended if you re looking to try new restaurants in the area!
This place is quaint
Offers a diverse variety of delicious food, excellent service, and a comforting and cozy atmosphere. The amount of care put into the recipes, dish preparation, and ingredient quality was obvious from a glance, and the service was just as attentive and considerate. I particularly enjoyed the seafood dishes such as the lobster bisque and lobster rolls. I had an excellent dining experience and would definitely like to come again some time.
The best pork cutlet and pork steak Ive had. Unfortunately the owner informed us that they no longer serve pork items. However, everything else is great as well. The kombucha matches very well with many of the menu items. The service is very good and the staff would spend time to explain each selection of meat and cooking method.
We dropped by this restaurant before catching a movie and ordered the Hermit burger, Striploin steak, French onion soup and Chicken noodle soup. Everything was really good especially the Hermit burger which was AMAZING. The price is decent considering the quality of the food. The sides that you get with each dish (wild rice, aged beef croquettes) were really tasty too.
We had a 6:30pm reservation and was seated on time. The chicken noodle soup was fantastic. Dry aged ribeye was juicy and tender. Osso bucco with gremolata was delicious and fresh. The dishes were wonderful. The server was friendly and did well with their recommendations. They followed up to make sure we were happy with our food. The people who work here take care to ensure that the dishes will keep you coming back for more. The atmosphere felt comfortable. We enjoyed all our dishes and the black currant and lime kombucha which was recommended by our server was wonderful.
We wanted to try items on their new menu and it did not disappoint. I had their lobster udon which was very flavourful and delicious- I drank all of the broth! The grilled scallop was very buttery and chunky- an excellent recommendation from the waitress. She was very helpful with helping me choose what to order. The shrimp skewer was nice as it had a nice shrimp flavour. I would definitely order these items again. Their seating is very comfortable and clean. With the soft music in the background, it was a relaxing and enjoyable experience overall! :)
One of the best place I have dined in. Food was delicious. Service was good. Little gem in the neighbourhood.
We had the most wonderful time with the most wonderful people having the most wonderfully prepared dishes by the most wonderful restaurant named Fish & Loaf!! This is a MUST visit restaurant near the Golden Mile mall on 41 Lebovic Ave. High quality 40 day aged Steaks from ribeye to wagyu and 40 days aged pork steak from Spain, England and Australia! Come hungry!
I love the food there so much. They taste pretty good. I love the dry aged iberico Pork steak very much. It tasted sososo good. I love the atmosphere there, very cozy. Just place little bit far from my home. Hope one day they can open another one north of the city. High recommended.
My friends and I came a few days ago for lunch. It was very nice. The decor was nice. The food was very delicious. We had scallop (sashimi and grilled), steak, cumin lamb on a bun. We tried their skewers too. It was very enjoyable. Definitely coming back!
First time trying out dry aged Iberico pork steak, it was absolutely delicious! So juicy and tender! I also really enjoyed the aged beef croquette. It s not easy to find this appetizer in Toronto and I m glad to find it on their menu! Will definitely go back again to try out their new menu.
We came for lunch about 3 weeks ago, just one day after the restaurant changed their menu. I had read the good reviews about their pork & osso bucco dishes, but did not realize their menu changed until we arrived at the restaurant. I was disappointed that they no longer had the pork cutlet and osso bucco, but was fortunate that they still had some remaining berkshire pork chops. The food overall was good. We ordered the pork chops, the salmon burger, the hermit burger, fish fillet burger, spaghetti bolognese, onion soup, breaded oysters & truffle fries. The burgers were tasty, especially the salmon burger. The soft-shell crab and the breading of the oysters were light and crispy, though the fries were rather plain. Spaghetti was also good. The quality of the pork chops was great, though I found the pork chops themselves a bit overcooked. Probably was my own fault for going with medium, instead of medium-rare. Taste-wise, it lacked the flavour I had hoped for, as seasoning was basically just salt and pepper. The restaurant is clean and modern, though there is limited seating. Service was excellent. I had great expectations going in, but the menu change was a big disappointment. With an already small menu, they also didnt have lobster bisque and the braised ox tail. While I understand that the menu change was done to accommodate the clientele of the area, it is unfortunate that the removed items were completely taken off the menu. I noticed that F&L has updated their menu again, but I dont think I will make the 40-minute drive to try it out again.
The staff there are very dishonest and disrespectful people. They would fake it until they will make it so they can satisfy their patrons with lies
Delicious food, friendly and attentive staff and owners! Each dish was perfectly prepared, with beautiful plating and delicious. Their crispy soft shell crab sandwich with truffle fries was amazing! Chicken wings and breaded giant shrimp were also fantastic! Rich and flavorful French onion soup, chicken noodle soup, and Lobster Bisque were all perfect for a chilly day!
Great food, great service!
Staff were friendly and took the time to explain the menu. Food was delicious and full of flavor. Would come again.
Group of us had dinner. The food was wonderful. I love both burgers, deep fried seefoods!
Fantastic restaurant with friendly staff and absolutely delicious food on the menu! I came here twice with my husband and friends, and all of us enjoyed our meals, especially their Iberico and Berkshire Pork dish -- to die for!! Their appetizers were also creative and delicious - can tell that they use good quality food! The restaurant itself does not have too many tables, the ambience is modern, intimate and quiet. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!
Highly recommend this small and cozy unique mom-and-pop restaurant. The menu had a great variety of appetizers and mains. We had started with the lobster bisque and fried oysters, and for mains had the steak with truffle fries, dry aged pork steak with seasonal veggies. Everything was flavorful and tasted very fresh. The staff were also very friendly and attended to our table throughout the service. They were more than happy to make recommendations about the dishes and explain to us the differences between the steaks and how they were made. An absolute gem in this busy Scarborough neighbouhood and we definetly look forward to going back soon !!
This is my third time dinning in this resto since they have opened. They have modified their menus since their soft open but that s okay because the pics can t justify how good some of their new items tasted. My favourite was definitely the chicken skewers. They also got their liquor license recently so we also tried their sake and of course their non-alcoholic ginger beers. Hence, our bill was on the expensive side for 3 ppl. The server Maria and owner was friendly. They will honestly let you know what they have and don t have and accommodate. When the ingredients are not up to par, the chef will make recommendations accordingly (the scallops that day was not fresh enough for sashimi for example). In my opinion, they are still testing the water with their menus and trying to tailor them to their target audiences but in the interim, it s always exciting to try their new dishes.
A fantastic place for great food and friendly service. Fish & Loaf is a cozy restaurant that offers an excellent variety of quality seafood, skewers, and steaks that are aged in house. Ive gone a couple of times now and each time has been a great experience! The owners are a husband and wife team and they are so passionate about what they do. Please show this lovely local business some support if you can. Everything was delicious ! Kid-friendliness: Comfy banquette seating
Ordered the aged ribeye, nam yu fried chicken, king salmon burger and squash and sweet potato stew. Love the flavour in the stew. I haven t had much experience with aged steak but their aged ribeye sure was flavourful. Great for date night. Lovely staff and decor.
As a word of mouth works- we were recommended to visit this little restaurant for the dry age steak. A dry age ribeye is a rare find in Toronto, this place did not disappoint at all- a grass fed steak was delicious! We also loved the truffle fries and the strawberry mochi dessert. Definitely will be back for other steak options. The restaurant is cozy and upscale, with reasonable prices. A must try . We forgot to take photos because were busy enjoying the flavors, but will return for more
Good portion sizes, tasty food, quick service. Nice small restaurant with A+ service
We stopped by for a late lunch and coffee. The food was delicious and had delicate flavours. We ordered the lobster udon, dry aged striploin, truffle fries and a latte.
Went there yesterday, the Iberico Pork is so juicy and tasty, cant wait to try their Berkshire Pork Steak next time (cause we have ordered so much good), the scallop is fresh and tasty, the clams are so good. Wagyu is wagyu which is so fatty and melt in your mouth. The owner/chef and his wife are so friendly and explain why they prepare the meet the way they did, which shows their passion about food and the customer. I wouldnt expect the coffee was so great, it beats some of the expensive restaurant downtown. After knowing they went to Etobicoke to purchase the right coffee bean, I know this place is going to do good! Keep up the good work!!
You NEED to Go. This place is such a hidden gem - the owners are the absolute sweetest people in the world! The ingredients they use are FRESH. My partner and I shared lamb skewers, breaded oyster (to die for!!) & the jumbo shrimp bun. The flavours are so simple yet serve so many levels. We really appreciate the bright sun, as the interiors are so beautiful, clean & very new! It s situated in eglinton so it may be harder to get to without a car, but trust me it s worth a TTC trip Experience it if you re curious, but this is a MUST TRY!
Cozy comfortable atmosphere, friendly staff. Large variety of quality food, with a constantly changing menu to reflect fresh in season ingredients and the chefs specialty new dishes. Ive been here several times, with family, and friends, a few times to celebrate some special occasions. Happy to have tried many of their menu items, from their delicious soups (chicken noodle and lobster bisque are my favourite), dry aged wagu steaks, tomahawk pork chop, my husband loves the hermit crab burger, ossobuco, grilled scallops, skewers, giant breaded shrimp and oysters, taro chips (grandson loved this, had to order more), stir fry cabbage. Highly recommend trying this restaurant!
We were presently surprised at the organic ambiance simplicity and cleanliness of the restaurant. The server was patient and kind. The food was fresh and tasty we ordered all the skewers, egg rice and lobster udon. We also tried sake which went well with our meal. We cant wait to sample the rest of the menu. Dietary restrictions: They cater to your palate. Oh ya the house hot sauce was superb too.
I had an amazing experience at Fish and Loaf restaurant today. Their service was excellent. Their waitress was extremely attentive. They even provided a hot towel to wipe our hands before our meal. The food was very tasty. The taro chips was thin and crispy with a hint of curry. The soft shell crab in the sandwich was big, crispy and fresh. We ended the meal with a latte which was smooth and aromatic. Great environment for a nice meal.
The food here exceeded my expectations and my taste buds were doing its HAPPY DANCE . This is now one of my favorite restaurants. The food quality, presentation, and the high-quality ingredients used will make you want more. The food is presented at the exact temperature and timed perfectly when it s served at your table and reminded me of an upscale tasting menu. The restaurant is small, stylish, and only has a few seats but created an intimate ambiance that my husband and I really appreciated. The service here is top notch and the staff is very knowledgeable about giving you recommendations. This place is not to be missed! We will definitely be going back.
Ate here last week with my wife and what a great experience it was. The food was fantastic and the staff was so great. Look forward to eating here again.
Just enjoyed the best meal we ve had in quite a while. The fish broth udon was so complex and rich; we were literally smacking our lips. The dry aged iberico pork is not something you find often on menus and it was so well prepared. We also had the fried chicken and I m still thinking about it. Add to that the cleanliness, beautiful interior, and really friendly service and we are committed to coming here regularly. Excited to try the dry aged steaks and more of the seafood offerings. Can t wait to come back. You must visit these guys. Can t see anyone leaving these place unhappy.
The food was excellent, and the person that served us was really nice and attentive. This was our second time and it was amazing.
A really unique and great dining experience hidden away in a Scarborough plaza! Fish & Loaf specializes in higher-end quality Asian fusion cuisine and it really shows in the quality and care put into their dishes. We got the dry aged steak (ribeye and striploin) as our mains and they were both super juicy and tender. I also got a taro chip spring mix salad and nam yue fried chicken as sides, they were both super tasty and well-made. The interior was modern, spacious, and nicely decorated with an intimate dining area on the second floor. Service was super friendly and attentive. Pricing is definitely on the higher end for portions, but worth it for the quality of ingredients and ambiance. I hear they rotate their menu based on seasonal availability of ingredients, so I look forward to trying out their future menu items. It s an amazing spot for a date night dinner or a special occasion.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Fish & Loaf and I must say, I was thoroughly impressed. From the moment I walked through the door, I was struck by the warm and inviting atmosphere. The decor was beautiful, with a perfect balance of elegance and comfort. But the real standout of the evening was the food. Every dish was expertly prepared and bursting with flavor. From the appetizers to the entrees and desserts, every bite was pure heaven. And the service was just as exceptional, with each member of the staff going out of their way to make sure our dining experience was top-notch. Overall, Id highly recommend Fish & Loaf to anyone looking for a truly unforgettable dining experience. Whether its a special occasion or just a weeknight dinner out, this restaurant is sure to impress. Dont miss out on the chance to experience it for yourself!
The food and service are excellent, and the atmosphere is very intimate. I planned to keep visiting the place with my whole family. The tables are on the second floor; if you have any motor disabilities, it will be challenging to go up; I did not see any elevator Food
Other than cooking time takes a bit time. The food and the service were fantastic! Will definitely come back again!
Yummy meal. Super quality meat. Perfectly executed. Very good value.
Food are fresh and nicely present. The ribeye steak is perfectly done. The grilled abalone is juicy and not chewy. The soft shell crab is crispy and not oily. I will go again!
The food and service were top notch, the wait staff was incredibly friendly and inviting. The food was also very good would highly recommend.
Dont let the hustling and bustling of the plaza fool you. Inside the restaurant is a seclusive setting. Came here with friends for dinner. I ordered duck confit, perhaps the last of the day, along with russet potato fries. Server was patient as I was struggling with a backup in case my duck confit wasnt available. The salad paired nicely with my duck. Portion of my fries was generous which afforded me to munch and chat the whole evening. Would love to try my backup, the dry-aged steak, some day.
We had an excellent dining experience at Fish & Loaf! A contemporary Asian Fusion restaurant that specializes in grilled meats and seafood. The interior is beautiful and modern with an open-style kitchen. You can really taste the fresh and high quality ingredients used. Their garnishes are homemade & they even dry age their meats in house! We ordered the dry aged iberico pork steak, ribeye steak, duck confit, pork/chicken skewers, and abalone. Everything was cooked to perfection and the proteins were so tender and juicy. Love that they also serve alcohol including unique Japanese beers that pair nicely with the items. The service is also 10/10! I recommend supporting this place and i ll definitely be back to try more.
Stylish new restaurant in Scarborough with minimal seating so you should call ahead for reservations. The premise is simple , just cook tasty items , don t over complicate it, and you can enjoy the food . The decor is cool ,seating is on second floor that overlooks the kitchen on ground floor . Started with the fried scallops , good size tasty . The fried soft shell crab was wonderful , juicy and meaty . The Australian abalone was cooked and still juicy but firm . For me the lamb chops was perfect , I asked for medium rare and it was , I found myself cleaning the bones with my hands . Decided to order the fried oysters , is was very good , especially with the spicy Mayo . Definitely I will go back they staff was warm and welcoming .
Excellent Atmosphere. This place is a real gem and needs to be talked about and experienced. Limited seating so call ahead and make a reservation. Its a very intimate dining experience. Service is on point! Our server was very attentive, friendly and very welcoming. One of the owners came by our table to introduce herself which was very nice. Menu is small, but very impactful and impressive. Food is incredible and presented beautifully. Easily one of the best steaks Ive ever had. (I highly recommend the Dry-Aged 10oz. Ribeye at medium rare) Well be back! We highly recommend!
Great chief! Tasted the food with heart! Nice place! I will come again with friends!
Amazing experience from start to finish! First off the owners are super sweet, we felt so welcome into their space and I love that they have an open concept kitchen where you can see everything they do from prepping to cooking. Chef John is so passionate about his cooking and he doesn t over complicate any of his dishes. They just shine simply with their flavours and high quality ingredients. All the protein we tried were delicious, perfect dry aged duck confit, literally the best duck I ve ever had. The steak was so tender and juicy I didn t even need to chew. Everything had depth of flavour and it will leave you to savour each and every bite. Highly recommend this spot, it s perfect for a date night!
It is an amazing experience . Both food and the service are the top grade. 100% recommended!
I wish I could make this a 6 star. Amazing food experience. Try the dry aged fish sashimi.
Our group had an amazing meal in Fish&Loaf. Start with the juicy and tender chicken skewer, pairing with fried oyster that is both crispy and creamy. And then followed by a well balanced duck confit salad with crispy skin and succulent duck meat. The main course seafood pasta is amazingly flavourful, and closing off with locally sourced dessert. The dedication of Chef John and Christy are palpable from the details of ingredients choice to the selection of dinnerware. Thank you for bringing us such a superb dinning experience!
Great food and excellent service, love all the food. Will Already come back for several times.
New restaurant with a great future. I have high hopes for this place. The food and presentation is top grade. This hidden gem is worth every penny. Location is a little hard to find but if you want high class food at reasonable price this place is worth the trip.
Very good experience, the food is yummy!
Spectacular dinner!!! The rib-eye was perfectly done. Well be back.
Pros: atmosphere was great here. Open concept kitchen, small upstairs dining area. Service was excellent and the food was amazing. The attention to details in the food was superb. We went there for lunch and the lunch special was amazing. I ordered the Iberico Pork chops and it was different from any pork that I have tasted in Canada. My wife at the duck confit and it was tender inside, but a nice crust outside. Cons: Seating is limited, as there were only 20 seats in total. So I would recommend calling ahead if youre a larger group. Overall: Aside from seating, this place is a gem. I think the limited seating allows the chef to control the quality of the food going out. I have a feeling this place is going to get packed as more people find out about it. The food tastes and its presentation feels Michelin worthy. If you havent tried this, then you should before it gets super busy. P.s. There are items that needs to be ordered 1 day ahead, so maybe take a peek at those items in case you want to try it.
First time coming here. Feeling very satisfied with the food and warm service. Seating is also very cozy.
This is the first time trying out the restaurant. Arrived closed to their closing time; however, received a very warm welcome and great service. Owner & chef John and wife Christy gave us a wonderful and enjoyable experience with their warm hospitality and great cooking. My ribeye steak was superbly done and my friends grilled fish was very tasty. Definitely will be a restaurant worth continuous returns.
I ve been wanting to try this restaurant for awhile. It s very intimate and good for small celebration. The berkshire pork was cooked just right. Not to dry and moist. The Chili Pepper Fried Monk Fish was so tasty, good portion and comes with seasoned rice. We ordered two order for our party of six for refill because it was delicious! The King Salmon Dry Aged Grilled with crispy skin and the rice was nicely flavoured with spice. It was to celebrate my husband s birthday and the owner helped us organize a dessert tart. Very nice and thoughtful gesture that we really appreciate. We enjoyed the Grilled Octopus, it comes with a side of salad. A very enjoyable nice and cosy spot. Hidden gem that is worth to stop by!
The steak was perfectly cooked, the fish had this salty flavour and the octopus was great. The place is really small.
Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. Great food, wonderful service. Hope people try it out. You wont be disappointed.
I had just gotten to Toronto and stoped in to try Fish and Loaf. I was very impressed with the unique flavors of the food it was fantastic. I will definitely be going back next time I visit Toronto.
I found this restaurant by looking for places near me as we were out shopping in the area and it was getting too late to go home to cook. We walked in and we were greeted with a smile. I asked if the had any tables available as most tables were reserved. they had one table available so we sat down. Immediately we were approached and we were asked if we wanted water hot or cold. Our server Maria was amazing. She also came to the table with hot towels for our hands, a very special touch. We then ordered appetizers- truffle fries. Spring salad and grilled octopus which was full of flavour. for the mains we ordered the monk fish and the strip loin steak. The food was delicious and Maria was very attentive. Job well done Maria!! I am not accustomed to taking pictures of my food but maybe next time I will. We will definitely be back and I will recommend this restaurant however I would suggest making an appointment. Thank you for the great experience. Parking: Plenty of parking
Very tasty and delicious meal I had there I god the organic salmon with rice some vegetables and sweet potato it was very well cooked the great amount definitely going back again
I got the steak! It was delicious!
Good food, friendly service, but the dining area is very small and oddly laid out; its upstairs and lofty but not their fault.
Small place, dont expect a big menu. Limited space. I think 6 table for 4 altogether. But its cozy, and the staffs are extremely friendly. Food are ok. Portion are petite, but the price are friendly too. A very relax atmosphere in a busy town.
You can tell the chef takes pride in their work. The dry aged mackerel was very moist and perfectly seasoned, the temp on the fish was on point and the skin was super crispy. Chili pepper monk fish was also very well done with good wok hei on the onions/chillies garnish. Service was attentive without being bothersome, sharing interesting aspects about the menu and providing just a brief description of each dish that was served. We stopped here for dinner by chance and it turned out to be a great find. Not often you find good fusion concept (dry ages fish/Asian flavours/modern presentation). Too bad I dont live nearby, will definitely visit again when Im in the neighborhood.
Second time here. Food was Phenomenal as always. This time I tried their new item, Scallop Risotto
Celebrated our anniversary here. Amazing food in an intimate setting. One of the best meals I ve had ever. Thank you
The ambiance feels like it belongs in the heart of downtown Toronto rather than tucked away in a small Scarborough plaza. Seating is comfortable, spacious and perfect for a date night. Our waitress was helpful, attentive and quickly refilled our drinks and made some personal recommendations based on our taste. We ordered several dishes and have to say that each dish is immaculately plated, well seasoned, flavourful and just the right portion size to feel satisfied. I would recommend the Australian lamb chops, ox tail, soft shell crab, but to be honest you cant go wrong with any of the menu items. I genuinely and sincerely hope this business flourishes and wish its owner the greatest success. I will definitely visit again
Service and food was excellent for our private group event. The staff was attentive to our dietary needs and the dishes were delicious. I really enjoyed the Wagyu.
The food is very good. The fish is very fresh and clean. My friends love restaurants. We will return soon The fish was fresh and everything was aesthetically clean. Our group had a lovely time and impressed by the food. We will be back soon
Very delicious food, excellent service. Reasonable portions and prices.
