no reservation , walk in only. Covered back patio.
My friend and I dined at Foxley after being waitlisted at another restaurant. Foxley had been on my list of restaurants to try, so figured why not. The restaurant was not busy on a Friday night and I did not realize it was a tapas style, because I was really hungry and not planning to spend too much money that night. We ordered: 1.Spicy crispy shrimp with jalapeño and garlic. 2. Pan fried lamb and duck prosciutto dumplings. 3. Grilled marinated beef short ribs. 4. Braised beef cheek in red curry. 5. Rice. I found it was a bit pricey for what you get, although the food was good. The pan fried dumplings were very overwhelming with lamb that you barely taste any duck. I did find the food overly salty. I don’t think I would return for a second time
While the food was flavorful and well-prepared, I was a bit disappointed by the portion sizes given the price. The dishes were tasty, with a nice mix of traditional and inventive flavors, but for what I paid, I expected more food. It's a shame because the quality was there, but the value just isn’t enough to make me want to return. Overall, it’s a decent experience
A friend and I had a lovely meal here last night. Very lovely and friendly staff, very quality food, great wine list, well priced. Will definitely be returning. The ceviche is a must try. I had the arctic chard but I am sure all three are excellent.
Finally made it here as it’s been on my list for a long time and honestly, it did not disappoint. Came here with a friend so I could maximize the dishes we could order and I’m glad I did because every plate was so delicious, nothing remained leftover. We went with the two of the three specials this evening, ordering a beef cheek skewer & hand roll, we also opted for the kale salad, sea bream ceviche & of course one of each of the desserts: the black sticky rice pudding and Vietnamese coffee crème brûlée. Every single dish we shared was absolutely delicious. Every single dish was hot & fresh and perfect portion. Service was excellent, ambiance was amazing, bathrooms and restaurant itself was clean, just a wonderful experience all around! I cannot wait to come back here with some more friends and try more items! Thanks for a fantastic evening! Keep doing what you’re doing & keep up the great work! I look forward to coming back!
I’m glad I was finally able to try Foxley because so many people have been talking about it. I’m all about leaving a restaurant and having that feeling of I can’t wait to go back. While I enjoyed my experience, I just didn’t have that feeling. We started with drinks and I loved the French beer I chose. I love a good saison and this was the highlight of my dinner. Food was good, but not great. We ordered what was recommended to us and some dishes that stood out on the menu. The crispy shrimp and grilled hanger steak were dishes we enjoyed although I thought the hanger steak was a little heavy on the vinegar. The beef cheek curry was very fatty but the curry sauce was yummy especially with the rice. I would get the vegetable curry over the beef unless you’re into fatty cuts. The dumplings were tasty but if you aren’t keen on lamb definitely don’t get them! Out of everything we tried I would say the miso eggplant is a dish I would recommend. It had nice flavour. There were two of us and we ordered 6 dishes. We felt full but with the hype of this place I had hoped for that special feeling! Give it a try and see what you think!
Went here for dinner and sat outside their patio. Food was interesting, I liked majority of the dishes, but just wish the portions could be a tad bigger. The menu does change as they cater to what’s in season. The shrimp and curry were definitely my favourite. The servers were also accommodating to allergies, but couldn’t guarantee cross contamination.
Another delicious meal at Foxley, wonderful Asian fusion restaurant. Very glad Tempura Oyster Hand Roll (large oysters, delicious) available. We enjoyed 2 each. The kale salad, hangar steak with chimichurri sauce, whole mackerel, and coconut black rice pudding all delicious. Good wine list. Service friendly and attentive. While they don’t take reservations, we called ahead and table in the cozy back patio was available. Thank you Chef Tom for another lovely meal!
This spot came highly recommended by a friend, so we went to try it on a Wednesday night. The space and service was warm and friendly. Lots of natural light flooding into the restaurant as the sun was setting, which was perfect since it was too cold to be out on the patio. Everything on the menu sounded amazing so it was hard to choose, but we loved everything we ordered. Just fun sharing plates with inventive flavours. I especially loved the sea bream ceviche and the special of the day (a pork belly wrapped in a crispy pancake. The pickled vegetables in it kept it fresh and not heavy/greasy-feeling). We tried a couple cocktails too which were also on point. I'll definitely be back!
I m writing a similar negative review that I ve seen before from other people. I ve been a loyal customer going to Foxley regularly since it move from College to Ossington. 15+ yrs ago. I have introduced it to friends and recommended it to many others. Last night was my last meal there. Ever since Tom s wife started working there the level of good and friendly service has all but disappeared. She is sour and really isn t cut out to be a server. We ordered dishes that we ve ordered many times in the past and one in particular was really off. The beef cheeks in curry should be super tender, and this time it was chewy and full distasteful connective tissue. We disliked it and left most of the dish. When table was being cleared, we informed the server/owner that it wasn t good. She said that someone else ate it, implying that it must be good (not necessarily) and then the other owner Tom Tasted it and said it s the same as always which (sadly) was exactly what I knew he would say. It certainly wasn t. Over the many years I ve. Visited Foxley, I have never once had enough of an issue with a dish to request it being taken off the bill. They should have removed it from the bill without giving it any thought to it, but they didn t. Normally I would let it slide and just not go back; however, I couldn t let it pass, because of my long history with this restaurant, so asked that they remove it. Simple request that I thought would be handled better than it was. I pointed out that Is been a very long-time customer and asked if this the way you think you should be handling this situation. Lose a customer who has brought a lot of business to the restaurant over a dish that wasn t good and may have a food cost of around $5.00. They finally removed it very very reluctantly, I decided that it would be that last time I ll ever go to Foxley. It s a cool little neighbourhood spot, but there s so many more options available today in TO with better food better, customer service, and better vibe. On top of that, the food really isn t as good as it once was. They are just dialling it in at this point.
Toronto Gem! Delicious food! Must try!
This used to be in our regular rotation but for no particular reason, we hadn t been here in 2 years. Was a little reluctant based on some of the recent reviews, but i can say we LOVED it. Luckily the menu hasn t changed much and all our old faves were available (kale salad, pork ribs, shrimp, ceviche, beef cheek curry) and as tasty as ever. Still no reservations, but I guess they are ahead of their time. We noticed lineups at other restaurants on ossington too so no res seems to becoming more common. We ll be back a lot sooner than 2 more years.
Writing this as a server at the restaurant to give some insight on a recent review by Sean K. Ive only been at Foxley since the summer but have dealt with this customer a handful of times. Every single time without fail, there is some sort of complaint. Either the service is too fast, the service is too slow (purposely coursed meal because of the previous complaint), drinks not made to their liking, off hand remarks etc. One time when the restaurant was completely full they demanded to be accommodated and given a table regardless due to them being a loyal customer. If service sees them coming through the door, they know with absolute certainty there will be an issue of some sort- this night included. The situation was less about the specific meal and more about an ongoing problem with this customer in particular. They were asked not to return. Everyone has the right to their own opinion including Mr. k, and things are not always perfect, but some opinions should be taken with a grain of salt. I just felt the need to clarify the situation for anyone reading. I also love the food and wanted to give a 5 star review to the team I work with :)
The chicken wings were outstanding. A little messy, but just commit Dietary restrictions: The staff helped confirm which foods met my personal dietary restrictions, and were gracious and accommodating in doing so Food : 5/5 |
We visited this restaurant for dinner one evening after finding a long waitlist at our original choice. The Google reviews looked decent, so we decided to give it a try. Upon arrival, the server offered a few specials, but we later found out they were no longer on the menu. Despite this, the server was very accommodating, which we appreciated. As for the food, it was unfortunately one of the most underwhelming dining experiences I ve had in the Ossington area. We tried the spicy crispy shrimp, which was just okay it reminded me of something that could be prepared with minimal effort at home. The steamed white fish was disappointing; the broth was bland, with only a faint hint of sweetness, and the vegetables in it were soggy and flavorless. The fish itself lacked any real taste. While the service was pleasant, the food didn t meet expectations, especially for the area.
Absolutely incredible
Food the delicatessen is a little more expensive, but its worth it!
The only thing better than their food (5 stars) is their large group policy (Id give 20 stars if I could). To all these cheap asses complaining in the reviews about Foxley not accommodating large groups... its called reserve it for private event. No one wants to go to a small intimate setting and be stuck next to you and your douche bag friends.
I ve been to Foxley a handful of times. Everything on the menu is always fresh and so flavorful. The eggplant, wings, ceviche , the shrimp , the curry all is amazing! Food : 5/5
Quite a hidden gem, really nice back patio. The food was full of flavour and fair portions. Really loved the scallop ceviche, kale salad, pork cheek roll and shrimp jalapeños. Lots of options on the menu to try!
Revising my review. I came at a very busy time, so understandably the wait staff was stressed, but they were very rude and dismissive.
Food is average. Overpriced. The patio in the back was cute.
Exceedingly slow and inattentive service, if I can call it service Menu is spartan and not sure how they leverage the fusion part Food
Backyard patio is neat but I would say that this restaurant is past its best before date 3 pages of wine, spirits, sake and even dealcoholized beverages but only a scant 3/4 of a page of menu items. Portions are small and absolutely no sides unless you want to add a $3.50 small bowl of steamed white rice Service was slow and our server knew very little about the ingredients in the items offered Too many other good restaurants in that neighborhood to spend time and money at this place.
The food was really good. The crispy shrimp and side ribs were excellent. The service was almost nonexistent.
Miso eggplant is good, same with the side ribs. Get a bowl of white rice. Scallop cerviche good too but smaller
Food is excellent. Cocktails were awful. Service was great. Back patio doesnt have music but that might have been the best part.
Pretty place and nice staff but I didnt enjoy the food unfortunately. The lemon dressing on the kale salad was so sour that it was upsetting my stomach. The baked eggplant miso was also super sweet and flowery, which threw me off. If you eat meat, theres lots of options, but as a vegetarian I dont recommend those dishes.
Overpriced. Steak was over cooked.
Amazing food and service was impeccable at a great price. Will be back
Good spot, very expensive for the portion sizes. Went for a date, will not return.
Was recommended this place by a work colleague and so glad she did. Every dish we tried was DELICIOUS. Vibe was cool and service was super friendly. A gem of a restaurant
Honestly this place is beyond words. Impeccable. Love it!
Delicious food and nice staff - but waaaay to overpriced for the portions they serve. Would not necessarily recommend this place if you are really hungry.
Good tapas. Nice price. Scallop, sea bream, lamb, steak. Authentic curry, not sweet. Can be spicier.
A few weeks ago, my friend and I visited this restaurant. While the setting was appealing, our experience was marred by an exceedingly impolite server/owner (not sure). The place wasnt busy, hosting just one or two tables. As vegetarians, we noticed the menu was quite limited in terms of options for us. We opted to order two starters, but found them to be quite tasteless. After receiving our food, which arrived within 5-10 minutes, we quickly asked for the bill, having spent around 15 minutes in total at the restaurant. Upon receiving the bill, the server took it upon himself to reprimand us for our minimal order, disregarding our explanation about the limited vegetarian options available to us. He then began to talk about how one should never order a small order at restaurants that are busy. There was one other table that was occupied other than ours. His behavior left us feeling very uncomfortable and as though we had somehow inconvenienced him, significantly dampening our evening. I hope this never happens to anyone else. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone else.
Classic spot! Great food always and great service.
We celebrated our son s birthday and were wowed by the flavours
The food is not bad but the portion is extremely small for its price. The pork side rib dish costed 18 dollar and it has 2 rib pieces so 9 dollar for one pork rib piece is kind of ridiculous. Spent 40 dollar per person but it was like eating appetizers and we were still hungry. Had to go down the street to eat pho after.
Amazing food and amazing service. A must try.
Feels like your own living room, the vibes are immaculate. Very cozy, intimate, laid back. We got the scallop ceviche, spicy shrimp ceviche, and green curry mussels. The food was alright, the shrimp and mussels were 7/10, the scallop was a bit too salty. Overall great vibe, will come back to try more stuff on the menu
I dont exactly get the style but very interesting menu and some very delicious dishes. I was excited about the mushroom inari but it could have used more flavor. I loved the seaweed and papaya salad! Not sure I need to go back but glad I went!
Foxley has a reputation that precedes it as one of the favourite restaurants of many chefs throughout the City. Despite that, for some reason it took me years to finally check out the place. Im glad I did. The dishes we had were all tasty and inventive. We had the oyster maki special, arctic char ceviche, beef short ribs, general tao chicken wings, seaweed and papaya salad, and sautéed Asian greens. My highlight was the wings, although the short ribs and salad were also popular with my party. Dont make my mistake come here sooner rather than later!
Nice restaurant with a neighbourhood feel and tasty and creative food. Their baker eggplant is a must! Their lamb and duck prosciutto dumplings have a unique taste, not commonly found in traditional Chinese dumplings. The beef cheeks in the curry were so tender and captured some of the curry taste. Will go back to try other items on their menu.
Everything was delicious. The beef ribs were out of this world!
What a lovely welcoming team, you go from walking in, to feeling like you re part of the family in minutes. Amazing drink offerings, sadly we d already ate but managed to make room for some ribs and they were delicious. Can t wait to go back and see them again
Unwelcoming, unfriendly and rushed service. The portions were small for the price point. My group felt rushed through the whole night. There is nothing special about this place. Wouldnt allow us to split the bill. Any request was met with attitude from staff. Maybe the staff was having a bad night. Would not recommend spending your money here.
I recently (attempted to) dine at Foxley and had a terrible experience. The restaurant attempted to charge my group an exorbitant $50 plus 18% gratuity fee, and informed us that we had to leave within an hour. This was not mentioned on the menu or on their website, which is unacceptable, and it was on top of the restaurant being mostly empty. In addition, the white people who sat down next to us did not get harassed like we did. Theres some messaging here but I cant qwhite put my finger on it. All in all, I would recommend those looking for Asian food look elsewhere. There are many better restaurants with good customer service.
I recently went to Foxley had a terrible experience. My friends arrived at around 45 min to an empty restaurant. They were informed of a 2 hour maximum seating policy that was not listed on their website. By the time the rest of our party arrived, we would only be permitted to sit for ~1 hour. The server also informed us that they do not usually accommodate large groups and then proceeded to ask if we would all be ordering food as he didnt want some people to just order drinks. To top it off, he informed us that there was a $50 per person minimum charge plus an 18% gratuity charge. Due to the servers rude behaviour and unreasonable policies, we decided to leave without even ordering any food. We walked by ~1 hour later and there were a bunch of empty tables. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
I recently visited Foxley and had a terrible experience. The waiter of the restaurant seems to have no appreciation for their customers. My group of 6 was forced to pay a $50 minimum per cover along with an 18% gratuity, which I found to be unreasonable and excessive considering the already exorbitant prices. The waiter then informed us they were extremely reluctant to seat groups, even though the website explicitly stated no reservations (to our dismay). This flawed logic leaves me baffled. This was coupled with a two hour seating limit, which the waiter cited was to allow seats for others despite a nearly empty restaurant. Although this limit is palpable, it left an extremely bad taste in my mouth. It is shocking how paying customers are treated like this at a restaurant that appears this upscale. I would not recommend Foxley to anyone and will not be returning in the future. EDIT: The waiter recently responded to this review with a significant amount of misleading responses. I would like to note that the waiter required our groups to abide by the (unwritten) $50 minimum order per person even after we clearly stated that we did not want to be treated as one group. Considering the prices of the dish in comparison to the portion size, I struggle to believe they would take a loss if a customer ordered less than the stated minimum unless they are importing products from across the world. I find it even more baffling that the waiter completely ruined our experience in the name of staying in business, thereby losing 6 customers who wouldve likely spent around $50 per person regardless. It is extremely unfortunate that the front of house treats their customers so badly, as I heard good things about the food itself.
We are always so delighted by Tom and his choice of dishes. Designer food at its best. Delicious flares of flavors and personable staff always makes our visits so memorable. Well be back for more! Xo
Delicious Asian fusion tapas. Such a helpful server that gave us lots of recommendations for vegans too. We will definitely be back!
Tasty and decent atmosphere.
We ve been coming here for over 15 years and it s been delicious. Delicious and every time but was disappointed that after all our years of loyalty we ordered a special that we did not enjoy at all. Collin, Who is an incredible maître d, tried to go back to owner and tell him we did not enjoy the dish and rather than deduct it he said too bad. Worst part the owner sends me a personal email suggesting I not come back after reading my review. Don t worry Tom, TO has thousands of restaurants. You re not that good.
Worth Trying. Interesting small tables meets refined Asian cuisines. Extensive wine list, short beer and cocktails, variety menu. Sea Bream Ceviche: Par, needed to be mixed, olive oil too strong and was the only acidity, needed something else to brighten the fish. Found a large bone. Beef Cheek Red Curry: Decent, housemade paste for sure. Quite aromatic, not very heavy, great balance, not spicy at all. Tender beef, okayish portion. Overall worth trying, really nice small resto quiet vibes. Takes AMEX. $30-$35pp
Good lamb dumplings.
Located in the busy Ossigton Street. This restaurant does not accept reservations, first come first serve. Meaning if you dont go early enough you have to queue for some time before getting in. They serve kind of asian fusion food. A mixed of everything. Some dishes are quite interesting and I must say that not all suited my stomach. Service is very good and owners are very friendly. Their food are good pairing some cocktails or wine. Can try.
It just feels like someone is cooking the food with love. I wish I could walk out with a bag of frozen dumplings to cook at home, even though they wouldnt do the fresh ones justice. Dont miss the steamed white fish. The broth is nectar worthy of heaven. Service is always 10/10.
Amazing food with lovely staff, the good was rollercoaster of experience and each dish had a unique flavor! Definitely would go back.
Try the see weed salad and steak was amazing
Excellent and fun foods with super interesting fusion flavours that arent too commonly found. Super unique expression Char ceviche was great. Wings were pretty good. Ribs were a bit too gingery but interesting. Eggplant was very good. The mushroom inari was great. Pork special was decent. Service was wonderful with very friendly staff. Problem I guess was the portions being tiny and expensive for the amount given. So we had to end up ordering 2 of a couple order which adds up. Massive selection of wines and drinks Would go back to try all the different dishes theyve worked up
Lovely place, great service, delicious food. Arctic char ceviche was light and delightful. Eggplant is an excellent vegetarian choice, beautifully prepared. Pork belly wrapped in a Chinese pancake was full of flavor, enjoyed every bite, my absolute favorite. Lamb and duck prosciutto dumplings and braised beef cheek in red curry both were both excellent choices. Five dishes to share is more than enough for two people. Great selection of cocktails that goes well with the menu, Foxley negroni was my favourite - perfectly balanced and highly enjoyable.
Small spot with few tables, if you can arrive by 6pm you ll probably get a spot. Otherwise you re in for a wait. The service was sort of a miss on our visit, but the food was wonderful. Portions are small so it s more of a sharing style. Some plates are spicy, so ask if you prefer mild heat. Rice pudding was lovely! Worth a visit for Asian fusion in the area. Don t get the chocolate cake, it s very overloaded with orange zest which completely overpowers the chocolate.
The menu is excellent, in particular the Eggplant and the White bream Ceviche.
What a great experience we had at Foxley s. Food was phenomenal and the overall vibe was so relaxing. The ribs on the menu that night were probably the best I ve ever had. We ate on the back patio and had a total of 5 or 6 items off the menu. Vegetarian friendly and everything we had was fantastic.
The spicy crispy shrimp was excellent and the staff extremely friendly!
Been coming here for over a decade, never disappoints. Best fusion tapas in the city. Must-try dishes include the tempura oyster in seaweed wrap, the arctic char ceviche, the duck & lamb dumplings (not pictured), the baked eggplant (not pictured)...Though really all the menu items are incredible. Their non-alcoholic drinks are also excellent (got the pink lemonade mocktail and was blown away by how good it was).
Amazing food and great service. Worth the price!
Consistently great. Great service, great food, great atmosphere. No wonder Foxley, the OG Ossington dining room, is still going strong.
I love this place. Lovely owner and the kitchen is just incredible. Make sure to order the eggplant; our highlight of the meal! So rich and flavourful
Fantastic food, great service, and a lovely atmosphere. Had the sticky ribs with rice and a glass of one of their merlots, all of it was extremely good!
Everything we ordered was so good. Servers were helpful too
Great little patio to watch the storm, loved the water feature, and great food
Absolutely amazing! The food selection was great (lots of sea food and veggie Options). Everything we ate was delish and the service was amazing! The owners are a very sweet couple we got to meet - he s Vietnamese (head chef) and she s Japanese and together they have created a a wonderful menu. No reservations, patio is cute. Not many cocktails - all of them are on the sweet side. The Japanese beer was great. Portions are good. Vegetarian options: Decent veggie options. We tried the kale salad, eggplant and Thai curry all great.
Just perfect! The eggplant, the fish, the shrimp all its like omg so good! 5, 5, 5 for everything! Food
We decided to try Foxly on a chill Tuesday evening, around 7:30 pm. The indoor seating was pretty much empty, giving us the whole laid-back vibe, just what we were looking for. Our chosen dishes, Baked Eggplant and Steamed Fish, to be shared with rice, needed about 30 minutes to prepare according to the menu. And boy, was the wait worth it! Each dish was loaded with flavor, the result of some serious attention to detail in the kitchen. The eggplant was melt-in-the-mouth tender, and the steamed fish was seasoned just right, enhancing the fishs flavor rather than stealing the show. While awaiting our mains, we opted for Tao Chicken Wings as a starter. The plate came out with five wings, each one smothered in a soy and sesame glaze that smelled so good, filling the air with their tempting aroma. After just one bite, we knew wed hit the chicken wing jackpot - super crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Wrapping it up, our dinner at Foxly was one for the books. Cool ambiance, speedy service, and food that was off the charts tasty. Its a spot wed definitely point anyone towards if theyre after a top-notch meal.
Fantastic food. Great service. Wonderful atmosphere!
Nice space, delicious food and friendly, genuine service
Always a hit when I bring people here. They don t take reservations but usually able to snag a table even on a busy Friday night. Their patio is nice and bright (but covered!). I always order the eggplant (note that it takes about 30min for them to make it and it says so on the menu) but worth the wait! this time also got the sea bream ceviche which was nice and bright with maybe a Vietnamese flavour profile? Loved the fried shallots in it though. Also the caramelized pork side ribs were so good, sticky and full of flavour! A great way to end the meal.
Quite disappointed with this place, the food was subpar at best. Surprised by the raving reviews. There are many other restaurants on Ossington worth giving a try, Salt is next door .. much better. Save your money and skip this restaurant ! Had the Lamb/duck dumplings, no flavour whatsoever, tasted like unseasoned meat Short ribs were good but very small portion, not worth it Ceviche was okay but nothing special;
Really lovely spot with a nice patio out back. Food was delicious and portions were food. Yummy cocktails too!
Excellent meal! Definitely recommend Vegetarian options: Lots of veggie options that are tasty Food : 5/5 |
Food is amazing. Staff is super nice. They have a very nice patio I am coming back for sure
What a refreshing and rare experience to walk in to a restaurant in this neighbourhood that wasnt packed with people or music blaring, yet still offers incredible food and service. In fact, I think it was one of the best meals and dining experiences Ive had in Toronto ever. The servers had a chill and lovely vibe, the cocktails were perfectly made, and the food was so so good without trying anything weird or trendy. I will definitely be going back, even if its just for the spicy crispy shrimp or sea bream ceviche (my two faves of the night). Highly recommend if you like seafood and good service.
We got to the restaurant at 920PM on Friday (Aug 4th). Unfortunately, we were not attended to, after waiting to be seated for about 10 minutes. It would be understandable if the place was busy, or was in the process of closing for the evening. However, we were not acknowledged at all. The experience was a bit disappointing as we have been itching to try this place out for quite sometime
Beautiful space, warm and hospitable service, delightful food and imaginative cuisine. Couldnt recommend it more -- it made me so happy to find such a quiet, beautiful spot like this in Toronto. Theyve been around for 1.5 decades! Vegetarian options: Tasty vegetarian options -- not very high protein, but delicate and delicious.
Food was delicious. Some gooey selections. We were told only one napkin per customer. Kind of weird, but they made an exception, thankfully.
I am torn on what rating to give. Great food. Great patio. Really dumb policies. After having three share plates we decided to order two more. I asked if we could have clean plates and was told it is against policy to give more than one plate. Ok - strange but then it got ridiculous. One of the dishes we ordered was sticky ribs. When I ask if we could have a couple more paper napkins I was told this was against policy too. When I pointed out we were having ribs the server very reluctantly brought two more napkins. I have never heard of anything so silly and frankly having to beg for a napkin when I am dropping close to $200 on dinner and drinks left a very negative feeling to the evening. Despite the great food for this reason I will not be back.
Good food
The food was amazing! Our favorite was the eggplant. It was delicious!
Excellent and recommended. I m going to start of by saying the very fact that when we paid, the POS did not have pre set tip options is the very reason I even tipped and my experience was not soured. I hate seeing 20/25/30% as default options it only makes me change to a much much lower rate. So for this alone I thank this establishment. Service: our waitress was lovely, attentive, not bothersome. Ambience: for a very Asian inspired menu the decor etc. was not, lol, but this wasn t negative it was more funny in a good way. Food: it s pricey but the food is great. The sea bream ceviche 5*, crispy shrimp 5*. The dumplings with duck, lamb and prosciutto were very good but the other two outshined them 4*. What s most shocking is the sticky pork ribs which I expected to to be top of my list were actually last. This is by no means to say they were not great, they were. They just didn t wow me like the first 2. 4* Would definitely go back as there are items I didn t try that I really would. Price: eating out these days is expensive, cost of living being what it is it was reasonable. The service was great. Not too busy, good food etc. can t complain.
Awesome menu, great ambience. The best sticky black rice pudding in town. Wish they would serve coffee.
A lovely spot on Ossington. The service was wonderful and genuine. The food was awesome! We had about 6 dishes and would love to go back and try more. More laid back than other Ossington spots, highly recommend.
Cozy vibe, good selection of drinks and lovely staff!
The Arctic char ceviche was fantastic. Incredibly fresh and flavorful. The citrus, ginger and green apple was balanced with warm sweet nuttiness from sesame oil (and possibly gochugaru or gochujang?). A well balanced dish, without any overpowering acidity you might get from some ceviches. Service and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. And refreshing to see no preset tip options on the POS terminal. Will absolutely revisit.
Delicious!! We will definitely be back. They don t take reservations but we didn t have to wait long. The crispy spicy shrimp our groups a favourite dish. The braised beef curry curry was so soft and tender, we also loved the Thai vegetable curry, don t underestimate it, we liked it more than the curry at Pai. It has a nice kick to it. The Vietnamese coffee crème burlee was good but not as special as we thought compared to the rest of the meal. Cocktails were great too!
this place was foxey as hell. I loved it - you should go here Vegetarian options: they did in fact have veggies. Recommended dishes Kale Salad
Great vegetarian food. If you are nearby, choose this restaurant.
Amazing food, warm staff and nice vibe. Must try - eggplant and pork ribs
The main descriptor of the food here would be: interesting. Fusion food is always hard to judge because of its unconventional nature and will challenge your acquired tastes for sure. - Chicken wings with the black garlic soy(?) sauce: 3/10. Personally the sauce was abit too heavy for me. - grilled whole mackerel: 7/10. Smaller than expected but nice indonesian flavors. - mushroom inari sushi: 7/10. Nice flavoringnon the tofu skin and rice. Mushrooms were eh. - grilled eggplant: 7/10. i enjoyed the diff flavor profiles but would be nice if it was more cohesively mixed. Overall main drawback is the small portion size for the price! But dishes are inventive and the service was rlly sweet and attentive.
Cool place if youre into seafood. Cozy atmosphere. The portions could get bigger tho :)
Hidden gem on Ossington with delicious Asian fusion
Went for dinner at this place that was recommended and read some reviews. The restaurant is small and atmosphere is so-so. I asked the waitress for advise for a smooth red wine but was served the opposite would not exchange it not a big deal. Ordered few dishes, the taste was nothing special have had better food other restaurants. So stingy on the amount of hot sauce provided. The service was ok but the attitude of the waiter was unacceptable truly rude and obnoxious based on this I would not recommend this place.
Amazing food, friendly and down to earth atmosphere
Ordered take-out for New Years Eve dinner. Food prepared with care and overall delicious.
Very tasty food. I liked everything except for the sea bass in banana leaf
Food made well
This is a great little spot for Asian inspired tapas. We got the inari sushi, oyster hand rolls, garlic shrimp, Asian vegetables, and the truffle whitefish. All of it was so delicious. They also timed all the tapas coming out perfectly and in the perfect order. My favourite was the inari sushi. The mushrooms paired with the sweet inari was really satisfying. My partner could not stop raving about the truffle whitefish. He said it s the best fish he s ever eaten. He liked it so much he asked our waiter to pass that message along to the chef. Everything was great and we really enjoyed our time here. Can t wait to come back!
My friend and I spontaneously selected this bistro for a sit down meal. Everything we ordered was delicious!! The Ginger/Green Apple Ceviche, scallop hand roll and kale salad. Totally going back!!!! Everything was very flavorful and the wait time between food was perfect.
This is my favourite Toronto restaurant! Everything is incredibly delicious and there is zero pretentiousness. The best!
Great food, great service. We ordered the scallops ceviche, sea bream ceviche, white fish with truffle, short ribs and the beef cheek. All amazing dishes, highly recommend
Very cosy, and fast service. The spicy crispy shrimp with jalapeño and garlic deserved a 2nd order.
THIS PLACE IS A MUST VISIT! We got scallop ceviche (omfg, so good), ribs, oyster handroll (so good we ordered twice), shrimp, all fantastic. Literally, exceptionally excellent. For the drinks we got the cocktail sour, and old fashion, both were amazing- and strong. I can t believe I lived in toronto my whole life and only discovered this place now, I will definitely come again and again and again. Servers are all so friendly, kind, and the chefs are talented. Highly recommend!!!!!!!!
Food was good, but nothing particularly unique for what I was expecting from a fusion place with that price point. Deep fried dumplings I would pass, sea bass ceviche was good and Cornish hen was just saucy and dry/overcooked. Good vibes though!
Great rieslings and better ceviches at this ossington bistro that s been here since before it turned to king st. Don t miss.
Love this place. The food and service are incredible. Our party loved the ceviche, the hanger steak and especially the Cornish hen. Wow.
Last night we visited this spot in Toronto for the first time. Everyone was super nice and Carmem was amazing! Like, amaaaaaaazing! Ceviche, wings and scallops were the best! We will definitely go back. They have back patio and their indoor is also super cozy.
Incredible food (we had the scallop ceviche, baked eggplant, sweet pork ribs, and the special, which was a a type of fish wrapped in a banana leaf + the Vietnamese coffee creme brulee for desert); great service. Can t wait to go back!! The back patio was super nice but full, will definitely try to go early next time to get a spot out there.
Been here twice in the last week. Scallops are unreal good, sticky ribs so delicious, eggplant so tender, mussels in green curry so so good. Beautiful back garden patio, lovely servers, just overall a wonderful place. The only thing that was only okay was the dumplings, nothing special
The ceviche is good but the mains need rice and veg.
Excellent restaurant, definitely check it out. Solid 4.6. I would suggest they take the lamb dumplings off the menu, its good but underwhelming. Everything else is good, why bring it down with something so ordinary? Thats my two bit. The photo is the scallops. Great dish. :)
Interesting Asian fusion tapas. They add their own flair to dishes youd see at other restaurants. The dumplings had a subtle lamb aroma, and the skins were crisped to the point where it felt like I was biting into a pie crust. The general tao wings were thickly breaded and dripping in a rich sauce. The seaweed salad was also good, the distinct flavor of basil gave it a unique twist to a classic western Asian dish
Went for dinner, the food was great! Had the steak and the scallop ceviche. Unfortunately the service was quite slow and at the end the waitress said we should have told her how we wanted to split the bill in three earlier. She did not even ask us how we wanted it?? Maybe she was stressed but I dont think this was an appropriate comment for a table that spent over $250 and was very patient and low maintenance for her.
Fantastic meal. Small, shared plates so you dont eat much of any one thing but literally everything we had was cooked perfectly with just amazing flavours. Certainly a standout experience.
Foxley is super pretentious and unfriendly.. definitely dont recommend if youre trying to have a good time.
fabulous restaurant and service! Try the eggplant, its unreal!
Our food was really good. Had the short ribs, spicy crispy shrimp, lamb and duck dumplings and the fried general tao chicken wings. They have seating in the front and back. Recommended if you re on ossington looking for somewhere to eat!
We ordered the skate special, crispy shrimp, kale salad and baked eggplant. Each dish was incredibly flavourful. Our favourite was the shrimp. The portions were surprisingly big for a tapas-style restaurant. Cute back patio and great service. Will definitely be coming back! Another gem on Ossington!
SO SO good here. The ceviche is amazing, so are all the fish dishes. Everything has lots of flavour and is really delicious.
Asian fusion in Ossington. I had the Ceviche, which is so tasty though serving wise was so-so. I believe this is their famous dish here. My husband had the Jumbo quail with mango salad,& I must say that it was so gooooood!! Best mango salad I had. The cocktails goes around $14. The place is usually packed during dinner time so make sure to come early. The back patio is also perfect for small gatherings.
Very unique food here- loads of fusion options. Vegetarian options: Available Parking: Not available nearby
Great food! Friendly staff and quick service.
Foxley was good!! Great location near other nice restaurants and bars on Ossington. We sat on the back porch and loved the feel of the place. I had pretty high expectations for Foxley because of the ratings and price point and for the most part, they were met. We ordered the scallop ceviche (pretty good but heard the Arctic char is better), baked eggplant (delicious, don t skip), pork side ribs (amazing my favorite dish of the meal), dumplings (good but not very special), mushroom sushi (good & interesting), and finally the steamed whitefish with greens/truffle (meh, wouldn t recommend). I m not sure if we ordered poorly (when we asked our waitress her favorite dishes we barely got any of them) or if it was a touch overpriced/overhyped, but the impression left me at 4 stars.
Menu has lots of potential and is close to being great but waaay too heavy on the ginger. All I remember was ginger taste . Nice service and atmosphere but for the food it needs some finesse
Amazing! Everything we ate was delicious. The staff was great and their back patio was lovely. Definitely coming back!
Tiny little spot on Ossington. Very unassuming but the food was great. The beef cheek curry has a great heat and the meat is so tender. The scallop crudo is another brilliant dish The patio is intimate and a quiet so perfect for catching up with friends or a date
Amazing food and some of the staff was great but the owner has an attitude issue. I had an issue with the service she provided tonight and didn t tip. The owner comments to my friend that I shouldn t come back. It is sad to see a great restaurant that I enjoyed be owned by such an egocentric individual.
Happened to find this place in passing. Great back patio and our food was delicious. Docked one start because we ordered the truffle white fish and were told it would take 20 mins. 40 mins later we check in and it turned out no one had placed the order in, which was a real bummer.
Delicious! We had the arctic char cebiche, the shrimp, the eggplant and the Thai veggie curry. Everything was wonderful. Be prepared for it to be spicy, though. Friendly, efficient wait staff. Vegetarian options: Nice variety.
Came here for a nice date night with my partner and we both thoroughly enjoyed everything on the menu. The portion sizes were just right and fair for the prices, allowing us to try a few different bites. The eggplant miso dish in particular was shockingly delicious in an unexpected way. Really enjoyed the vibe and ambience of their back patio as its outdoor but private and secluded. Staff were very friendly. Looking forward to coming back :)
The Foxley is an institution on the Ossington strip. We go as often as we can. Fresh and delicious food is always on the menu. We love all of the ceviche s. The baked egg plant and the duck and prosciutto dumplings are also delicious. The Kale salad is a great sized portion and very flavourful. The Pisco Sour was a nice and refreshing cocktail and so was the grapefruit Harvey Wallbanger. They don t take reservations, so if you re lucky you won t have to wait but if you do it won t take long. Whether you re at the bar, in the dining room or in the quaint back patio you ll have a great experience at The Foxley.
The food & cocktails were all missing something (unbalanced flavors). The crispy shrimp was memorable but everything else was unremarkable. Wont go back.
Good food and service
We ordered Scallops Ceviche, chimichurri steak and kale salad with pecorino. The salad and ceviche were top notch and steak was good as well. With each bite, you can taste how expertly the various flavours were paired.
Was fairly disappointed by our experience here. The scallop ceviche was very good but everything else had quite small portions and high cost ($20 per dish, maybe 5-6 bites per dish). The seaweed and papaya salad was the most off putting though.. its that bright green seaweed salad you get at AYCE sushi places mixed with some papaya. Tasted like the stuff from Costco. Cocktails were small, also not very good. We went elsewhere for a second dinner that night.
Everything was delicious! Great for a group sharing small plates. The eggplant was amazing, would definitely recommend.
Uninspiring fusion that essentially is rebranded Hawaiian cuisine served French style (tiny portions). The service was amateur at best. For this price point, skip the meal, have an app or two and leave for something more interesting.
Great food, great service. Curry vegetables 10/10
great food and drinks, friendly service
Loved the ceviche scallops! Heated patio in the back of the restaurant was still very cozy on a November night
Excellent and wide selection of creative ceviche dishes, and dishes featuring Asian and Latin American influences. Great change from classic dishes with a great drinks selection. The special dishes are also very interesting and worth returning often. Dishes portions can be on the smaller side and maybe more expensive than expected. In general, the taste is excellent and some dishes have generous portions.
Delicious Asian Fusion on Ossington. The Beef cheek curry was so tender and I could eat the dumplings all day. The flavours are amazing. We ll definitely come back
Ordered for takeout tonight and it did not disappoint! I have missed eating here and the dining experience, but the takeout held up super well and was a really good dinner! Got the spicy shrimp, steak, scallop ceviche and crab salad. Recommend highly
Found this secret gem by accident. Delicious Asian tapas, gorgeous back patio and excellent service by Randy! Order 4-5 plates and get ready to be impressed. Sea Bream ceviche and short ribs were to die for. Generous wine portions (very important these days) and pet friendly. Has a very humble vibe with one of a kind, elevated cuisine. Will be back!
Great menu, great service, reasonable prices. Will definitely visit again.
Fantastic small plates. Dumplings were amazing
Cant believe Ive lived in this neighbourhood for so long and never tried Foxley, everything was SO delicious and Im already excited to go back.
Such a grrat gem in the buzzling Ossington street
Good food but very saucy and same sort of flavouring across dishes made them similar in taste. Ticked it off.
Ask for Randy! He is the best!
If you are looking to try the BEST asian style food, Foxley is a must! Their back-of-house patio is comfortable and well decorated. Their talented staff made our experience special. But the highlight of the evening was the food! The combination of flavours, the unique presentations and tapas style dishes were incredible. Make sure to try at least four dishes to get the full experience. You wont regret it!
What a lovely evening out on the patio at Foxley. Our waiter made excellent recommendations, the series of delicious tapas plates were served in an order and at a pace that allowed each unique set of flavours to stand on their own. The street had a great vibe, with families, friends and couples out enjoying the emergence from the latest wave of the pandemic. Lets all keep doing our part to keep one another safe. Many thanks to the chefs and staff for a memorable evening out.
Had a great meal here and the service was excellent. The ribs were to die for.
Went there last weekend with friends from out of town. Ordered several plates for sharing. Definitely recommend the beef cheeks curry, the ceviche, eggplant dish, the fish and the pork ribs. Everything tasted great. Going back again
Really incredible food and very reasonably priced.
Service, staff and food were wonderful. Cocktails were also a hit. Can t wait to try more options. Shrimp, wings and ceviche were to die for!
I was very excited to eat here but sadly was underwhelmed. I got the pork ribs and the dumplings, neither impressed me. Was not worth it for the price in my opinion.
Great back patio with amazing food and our server was just incredible. We had never been and he gave us great advice on what to get and wow it was great. Cant wait to return.
Food was amazing. Unique & flavourful. My new favourite date spot, but also a place I must bring my friends. I feel like I stumbled upon a true gem, of authentic and thoughtful cooking, along the hustling strip of ossington.
Foxley is my favorite restaurant in Toronto, always great dishes, the blue crab was amazing, as well as the ceviches, ....all excellent
Omg everything we tried was delicious! Went with a friend and shared everything, tapas style. The arctic char ceviche was a bit spicy....in my Favorite gingery way! The lamb and duck dumplings were so rich and yummy, although could use a green garnish to cleanse the palate. Spare ribs were hefty and sticky with an amazing sauce... My only complaint was that there were too few (3)! I didnt realise how many amazing wines these guys serve by the glass, I gotta to go back when I dont have to drive :) Nice back patio, and heated!
I had an exquisite dinner here tonight, perhaps my new favourite restaurant in Toronto. The Arctic char ceviche and grilled sea bass were to die for.
Such great food! We had the dumplings, shrimp wonton soup, and the hanger steak with chimichurrri, was delicious! Couldnt stop thinking about the flavours after we left. Cant wait to go back and try more of the menu!
I went with a group of 5 and was able to snag one of the last open tables around 7. We ordered the following to split: Salmon tataki Sea bream ceviche Grilled lemongrass Cornish hen Thai curry vegetables Arctic char ceviche Inari sushi with mushrooms Steamed rice All were absolutely amazing (favorites were ceviche, Cornish hen, and curry). Our waiter was very attentive and was great at recommending items as well as listing gluten free items. I wish I had the space for dessert because Im sure it would have been phenomenal.
Very nice despite not being on Foxley St ..
Too good!! Unique taste and delicious food. We had the steak hanger in chimichuri, crispy shrimp and banana leaf baasa ( in that order of preference too). Great staff suggestions. Over all you won t regret giving this place a shot!
The most wonderful food and customer service! The little pearl on Ossington!
Lovely back patio with some really tasty fusion tapa style dishes. Every single dish was packed with flavor. The service was excellent as well. Loved every bite!
good ceviche
Great social distanced heated patio experience, served by an awesome group of employees (including Tom himself). Dumplings are amazing... But that Arctic Chat ceviche is next-level. Well done!
Incredible food, great for dine-in and takeout. Best ceviche Ive ever had, and the crab and avocado salad is a must-try. One of my favourite spots in the city and the staff is so friendly!
The spicy crispy shrimp is a must-try.
Food was delicious. Very impressed with the chicken wings and skirt steak.
Excellent food in tapas-sized servings. Unusual combinations; you wont be bored. Id give 5 stars except this is a fully-priced restaurant.
Small tapas plates, great menu; definitely priced on the higher side for actual severing size
Incredibly tasty food - the wings and ceviche are especially amazing. You can t go wrong with anything on the menu, really. We ordered takeout and it was warm, well-packaged, and delicious.
Delicious food and cute patio!
