Great taste and quality. However new way of packaging baos is not convenient. Before it was wrapped, now they are in a bowl. Which means that if eating by hand, oil will run down with a high probability of causing a mess.
Here is one of my favorite places to have lunch when I'm downtown. Food is fresh, quick, and fairly priced. I recommend a visit, in the summer you can go upstairs and enjoy your lunch outside. 2m walk. The problem is no place to eat there, not a deal-breaker, but it would be nice to seat close.
Major crummy letdown from the Crispy Tofu and Mushroom Enoki Bao Buns, they lacked any excitement, love or creativity and were so bland and stodgy. The portion of tofu and filling is somewhat concerning and the value of money would be a negative figure for a review if it were possible.
I get there mapo tofu often, maybe not as often now. It still tastes very good, just that when did it become so extra spicy? I wish I was told beforehand..
Mean Bao is located in the Bay-Adelaide Centre in the PATH walkway and is primarily open to serve office workers during the workday. The location offers pickup service in person or through apps like Ritual. The staff is very quick and has a convenient pickup spot. There are no dine-in spots at this location but there is a large nearby sitting/food court area. Update: This location has moved south slightly and around the corner in a newer unit. Their menu is simple and straightforward. We always order the Cold Noodles dish which is a delicious option that includes soba noodles topped with carrot, cucumber, pickled radish, red cabbage, cilantro, peanut, and tofu with a side of garlic chili soy sauce. Although the dish may seem small, it is just the right size and tastes good! The signature pork belly bao is a must-try item at Mean Bao. The bao is juicy, and the toppings of cucumber, green onion, and hoisin sauce in the steamed bun. The only downside is that the bao can be a bit on the expensive side, but for the quality, it is worth it. It is recommended to order ahead for pickup, as there can be long line-ups during lunchtime.
Mean Bao was recommended by a contact and I came across one along PATH in Feb 2022. I tried the tofu curry dish and the braised meat bun. They were average for me and the sauce was too sweet.
Tried the Mean Bao kiosk on the underground path for a weekend lunch last week. The cold noodle salad was good and cones with Tofu. Tried the Jerk Chicken, pulled Pork and braised beef baos. Was a little disappointed with them as they were very dry. Not sure if it was a bad batch or thats how it is in general.
I really enjoyed their pork belly Bao, it reminds me of home (I come from Taiwan). The other time I came here they ran out of the pork belly bao, so I ordered the beef Bao instead, still pretty amazing! Definitely will come by again the next time I'm around the area.
Good stuff
Probably the worst bao I ve ever had
Got the Mapo Tofu bowl ($13.50). On the pricey end for the portion size.
bought pork belly bao and braised beef bao, paid 17$, very small bao, taste so so, not worth it.
Pork belly was very tender and tasty flavorful but not overly salty. The curry chicken is also very good. Highly recommended.
Being a little spot along the PATH, they caught my attention. I was craving asian flavours, and the design of the interior was well curated. That lured me in. It had potential to be unexpectedly great. The service was friendly, but the place was empty. I started to doubt the quality of their work in the back. The portion size was very filling, but it was missing extra attention to detail in how the food came together. I really wish I could give it more stars, but the food falls short. I got a bowl because I wanted to taste the pork and the beef. It is the same meat they would use in the Bao. The meats were both tasty and luscious, but as a whole, the bowl didn t work very well together. The various things in the bowl just didn t jive together very well, in flavours nor temperature. If the bowl is any indication, I would imagine the Bao s are missing an extra touch of quality and care as well.
This location in the Bay Adelaide Centre of the PATH is definitely open (was marked as Temporarily Closed) and serving up some great baos! Love the Pork Belly Bao, 2 of those is a perfect lunch to not feel too heavy after.
A great little place for lunch, they serve a small doughy bread filled with a variety of items. These are known as boa and you order them individually. They are quite filling, thus likely two is enough or possibly three depending on your appetite. And they are not very expensive either. So you get a good meal for a fair price (about $6.50 each), this also allows you to get two different flavors so you get some variety. The storefront is very small but it is quick as you take it to go in their nice little cardboard boxes. Definitely a good choice for lunch if you work in the area.
The quality of the beef garnered them one more star than I would have given otherwise for that overpriced, underfilled bao I just ate. Old cilantro, limp bok choy (didn t even give me the correct filling) and peanuts and sugar nowhere to be seen. Major regrets with this snack choice.
Love the food but I just went there and its closed.
Okay SO GOOD. The baos are great portions and so so fresh and tasty. Dumplings delicious. Also tried the soba noodle salad which was fantastic. Everything was fresh and again a really good portion for the price. Highly recommend!
Got the rice dish with chicken and WOW. The taste and flavours were perfect! Tasted like a delicious homemade style dish. Gonna to go back here again for sure :). You would be surprised how many good food places are in The PATH. Way better quality than Eaton Centre s food court.
The rice bowl is massive, plenty of meats and vegetables. The baos are delicious but a bit expensive. The service speed is reasonable. Use ritual ahead of timebto order.
One of the best bao places Ive ever ate at. 100 percent would recommend.
Charged my credit card twice
Great place for Chinese buns with a twist.
I love the food especially red curry rice bowl and pork belly bao. I really recommended for everyone who wants to grab a quick lunch. Food and service was amazing. Will be back for sure
first time tried mean bao, recommended by my friend. I ordered braised beef and red curry. red curry was my favorite. love the food, staff was friendly. recommended
Great food accompanied with great service. Overall an awesome experience with the best bang for your buck baos in Toronto. Will be seeing you soon!
Very filling. The moderately sized bao buns will have you filled up before you know it. Quick takeout, and lots of topping options.
Extremely delicious food and staff are super friendly. Really affordable and a good portion size. You can t go wrong!
Delicious
Portion was on the smaller side, but the food was tasty.
Great food with cheap prices for downtown core. Friendly staff as well. Saam Bo Rice Bowl is my go-to here.
This location does not have dumplings :(
Unique food you cannot get anywhere else in the city with kind welcoming workers. Will definitely be coming back!
