280 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 3A5, Canada
I recently visited this restaurant and enjoyed the food—the nasi lemak I ordered, which came with soup and a drink, was delicious and reasonably priced at $16 after tax. However, the service was unacceptable. Since there was no custom percentage option, I tipped $1, only for the waitress to complain that the minimum was 10% after I tapped my card. I was shocked but said I’d be more careful next time. What enraged me was when the staff forced my friend to “cover” my so-called lack of tip by making her tip 20% on her bill. This behavior is absurd and completely unprofessional, especially in Chinatown, where tipping isn’t generally expected. While the food was great, this experience left a terrible impression. Based on other reviews, it seems this has happened to many people. Management seriously needs to address this.
Food was great. Flavourful, fresh. Ordered beef steak with sauce on rice. And pork cutlet with gravy on rice. Both come as combos with soup of the day and coffee or tea. Reasonably priced.
The Asam Laksa is passable, tastes good and authentic...just hoping the broth was stronger The Nasi Lemak was alright as well but it was super super spicy even for a Malaysian XD The soup given with the Nasi Lemak is good too. The YinYong was meh.... Nice quiet place so you can enjoy a meal and chat. Would definitely revisit to try the other Malaysian food.
Best Char Kuay Teow I have tasted in the city! It has all the authentic ingredients: garlic chives, Chinese sausage, plump bean sprouts, fried crispy lard bits, shrimp, and some tasty Sambal on the side!
My favourite asian food spot. They have Singaporean, Malaysian, Hong Kong food in big portions for a VERY reasonable price. - Chicken Rice: 5/5 LOVED THIS, reminds me of what my mom makes at home. The ginger garlic oil thing is SOOOO good. I highly recommend this. - Cha Kwetiau (i forgot how its spelled on the menu sry): 5/5 Well seasoned, generous with toppings, strong WOK HEY!! This gets my approval (means alot coming from an Indonesian who grew up eating Kwetiau). - Nasi Lemak: 3.5/5 [no pic sry] It wasn't as flavourful as I expected it to be, all of the chicken, rice, and chilli sauce. It was spicy enough tho! Their soy milk is great too, not too sweet. Overall, very food flavours and worth the price! Friendly and quick service too.
Delicious Malaysian food that’s pretty hard to find in Toronto. Cash only Nasi lemak was pretty good, but the standout was definitely the sambal. Really spicy and lingers in your mouth Char kway teow was really tasty and reminded me of eating it on the streets of Penang. Noodles were pretty smoky and the taste of soy sauce really came through. The fish head curry with vermicelli was rich, creamy and slightly spicy. A little like laksa but not the same level of heat. They also do Ikan Bakar (not on the menu) but you have to order it an hour ahead.
Nasi Lemak special comes with a small bowl of soup and a drink of your choice. The dish includes rice, spicy chicken, sambal (chilli sauce), egg, cucumber, peanuts, anchovies. The rice is dry and has only a barely noticeable hint of coconut; it couldn’t be called the real nasi lemak since it doesn’t have the rich coconut milk taste with the fragrant pandan leaf. The super hard boiled egg is only slightly fried. Although a little dry and tough, the spicy chicken tastes good. The sambal has a good kick and might be too spicy for those who don’t eat spicy food.
Today, I went to try their baked porkchop tomato with rice. I would say this is the best I had. I highly recommend it. I would go back for more. Good quality food. Taste good. Nasi Lemak is spicy. Wow.
Sat us down and then after 15 minutes kicked us out because they had a reservation. Terrible service.
This is absolutely the hidden gem in the area. I have tried a couple of their food items, they are all tasty. Dine-in meal comes with in house soup and a drink at decent price. Service is usually good as per Chinese restaurant standards. Best Hainan chicken in the area. Update: they now have weekdays daily lunch specials from 11am-3pm
Server was entitled to 25% tips and was upset that we didn t find that reasonable. Would not come here again. Ruins the experience.
Authentic Malaysian cuisine
Good food but won t be returning - waitress expected more than a 10% tip and made a complaint about it, demanding more. Ungrateful and entitled much? Go anywhere else in the world outside of North America and there are 0 tips and BETTER service. This is a casual cafe, not fine dining and there was barely any service as it is. Get over yourself lol
Charge a fair and transparent price, instead of gaslighting your customers for undertipping. Everyone wins. #TipForGratuity
Comfort food. Always fresh and delicious. Quick service and great prices!
My go to place for Hainan chicken. Super cheap and always great.
Food
Bak kut teh is good
THEY GOT THE BEST FRIED NOODLE AND CHICKEN RICE
Feel home, as this the best food and great environment.
The lady will literally took the pad over and put 15% tips for herself!!!!! Food is just basic
I visited this place once with a friend back when they only accepted cash payments. It took us a bit of time to figure out how much tip to leave and check the value of the coins, since we rarely use cash these days. Unfortunately, the waitress became upset, grabbed the coins herself, and started complaining, calling us new immigrants and saying we didn t know the rule of tipping at restaurants. I found her attitude quite unprofessional. Regardless of how good the food might be, I wouldn t recommend this place, especially since the food was just okay. There are plenty of better options in Chinatown.
Probably the best authentic nasi lemak and char kway teow in downtown Toronto. Good portions for the price as well.
I have been here 5+ times. It is a good restaurant that does Hong Kong style cafeteria dishes at a reasonable price.
Small portion! Terrible service! I ordered a combo for take out , comes with tea, and I waited 20 minutes for the tea, that tastes like hot water, paid nearly $20 for the combo, and portion is really really small! And old woman who was taking my order was extremely rude, forced me to pay without showing me the receipt first! Never coming back again ( after reading others review, I m not the only one experiencing this rude behaviour! Stay away from here, the food is nothing special! There are plenty nice restaurants in Chinatown )
What shocked me was when I went to the counter to pay and selected no tip, the cashier just rejected it and just tapped a 15% tip option. Amazing. I ordered the Nasi Lemak from this eatery. It was alright but Ive certainly had better.
Amazing Malaysian food.. authentic and beautiful crafted...
One of the only Malaysian restaurant downtown. So far, everything weve had was amazing.
The lady kept hounding us for tips. Literally forced us to tip. It s not something you can force people to give. Very bad service.
The server lady is a tipping gangster. Will FORCE you to tip. Very shady. Beware.
After I paid, the owner shoved the POS system back at me saying You didn t give tips . Then I said ok, how do I include tips. I had cash 3$ cash on me. I gave it to her. She said this tip wasn t enough for a 32$ meal. Then she made me pay again about 25% tips. Not coming back here again.
The owner forces patrons to tip regardless of the quality of service received. Feels more like a compulsory fee rather than a token of appreciation for good service.
Went to eat today. The lady forcefully asked me to tip for a bowl of noodle. She spoke so loud saying that I tip too little and snatched the tablet from my hand and single-handedly tip by herself!! Never come back again, feel cheated of my money.
forced me to leave a 24% tip didn t give me any option and wouldn t give me my exact change back
Good food and good value. Highly recommended.
A hidden gem
Very authentic nasi lemak and fried kway teow (fried flat rice noodles), as someone who grew up where these dishes come from I can firmly attest to this. Please ignore the negative reviewers who are expecting a rich coconut rice taste, the real Malaysian/Singaporean coconut rice has a delicate taste.
The tea bone pork tastes like Cantonese style, but I didn t expect it to be a Malaysian dish. If I lived nearby, I would eat it at least once a month.
I tried the curry noodles today. It turned out to be good. Not too oily or spicy and the portion is just right. I will definitely order it again at my next visit.
This place serves some good food for cheap
Went here and got their nasi lemak. Tasted very good - more on the spicy side. Will be coming back to try their other menu! Recommended dishes
cash only resto! the nasi lemak is so good but so spicy!!
As a Singaporean, I was recommended to try the Malaysian food at this cash-only eatery from the secret menu by many other fellow Singaporeans/Malaysians. The Nasi Lemak set comes with 2 halves of a hard boiled egg, chicken sambal, cucumbers and ikan bilis with peanuts, along with a choice of drink. This was probably the best Nasi Lemak in Canada with its spicy sambal, probably even better than many of the average Nasi Lemak back in my hometown. The char kway teow was done well with its wok hei and decent portion of shrimps provided, yet it wasn t oily with the noodles not sticking together, a common issue with the kway teow equivalent noodles that we find here. The total bill for Nasi lemak set with the char kway teow came to just under $30, which fed 2 people easily, a very reasonable price with today s inflation, especially for a cuisine that is very sparse in North America. I will definitely return again for the Nasi Lemak, although it would have been great if they offered a pescatarian alternative for the chicken sambal just like the norm back at home but I understand the constraints of serving a relatively rare cuisine in a restaurant setting. I also look forward to trying their other dishes from the secret menu such as the Ikan bakar and the sambal petai.
Very good food at a reasonable price. I had the vermicelli with Samba and chici, fantastic!
Tucked away, this resturant has a high turn over rate as customers come for the cheap eats. The waitress spoke Chinese and warned us about the spice level, missing Nasi Lamek, I was beyond excited. The meal was fragrant and had strong flavours but not traditional as the chicken was drenched in sauce and coconut rice was lacking. Flavoursome, but not the nostalgic throw back I wanted.
Always good value with prompt and sincere service.
Great Malaysian/south East Asian food. Accommodates allergies well!
Find the Food has impeoved lots especially chr keri Teow and nasiblemak and fish head curry vermicelli. Must have. Glad i came again. The best Malaysian food in Ontario for now. Highly recommended whoever likes Malaysian food. Parking: Under ground pay parking or street p ay parking available Wheelchair accessibility: Use elevator getting to the 3th floor wheelchair accessible entrance
Cozy, authentic Malaysian style!
Best Nasi lemak in down town toronto. Brought me back to hawker culture in singapore and Malaysia. This shop situated in the china town mall is a hidden gem for the people who love Singaporean and Malaysian food. The service is great and the portion size is faily reasonable for the price as well. Nasi lemak was the best item. Chicken was slightly old but the sambal made everything better. I tried the spicy option and it was almost at the authentic level. Nasi lemak had everything whixh made the malays proud. The small fish were also offered. The food was served on a banana leaf. Be aware of the spicy levels. The hainanese chicken rice was tasty as well. It reminded me of penang. The white chicken with rice cooked with chicken oil was amazing. Singaporean rice noodles was amazing as well. Generous amount of meat was added as well. The soup and the drinks were great.
delicious
I ordered the Nasi Lemak and an iced Hong Kong Milk Tea. The food tasted good, chicken was a bit small and it was much spicier than I expected (and I eat spicy). I gave 2 stars because of the terrible service. The place is cash only and the lady there forces the customer to tip a set amount. My total after tax was $17. I gave $20 and she gave back $3 and she said that the tip is $2 and took it away from the change. I found it very rude and will not be recommending this place.
Delicious Food!! Hong Kong style with Malaysian style menu items, this place is a real gem hidden in Dragon City Mall. Heard they are closing but no ETA, so would try them if you havent!
Very good foods With reasonable price.
Small business, reasonable and competitive price.
Canteen was a lovely surprise. Very friendly service and enjoyable food. Tucked away on the 2nd floor of the Dragon City Mall.
my sister ordered a hainanese chicken takeout which was good but my nasi lamek was insanely spicy. This restaurant really needs to add a spice warning as I was only expecting a mild dish and could only finish half of it.
Ate here while visiting China Town for the first time. Excellent food at incredible prices. Our entire group can t stop talking about how good it was - cash only but so worth the trip to an ATM. Definitely a place that could be overlooked based on appearance, but it shouldn t be! A little gem!
Food portions have shrunk while the prices have increased. Quality has dropped as well.
So good! As a Malaysian, approve of their Nasi Lemak! Reminds me of my childhood
Ordered Nasi Lemak, tasty but too spicy. The portion could be better if bigger, more chicken meat. Nice combination with soup and drink included. Good service. Food
Very good nasi lemak! Im always skeptical of HK style cafes trying to include Southeast Asian food but this place actually tastes quite authentic. Will definitely come back to try their other foods.
Spicy Nasi Lemak, Bring Cash, but the lady not so polite lol
authentic Malaysian food. Have ordered many times from them and always a good experience !
- Hainanese Chicken Rice: Rice wasnt very fragrant with the chicken fat, but there was some salty sauce on the bottom. The bok choy and broccoli are decent, but the chicken was a little dry. The ginger onion dip was on the salty side. -Char Kuey Teow: Lots of wok hei and fragrance, with bean sprouts, two types of noodles and some chicharron for added texture. -Nasi Lemak: comes with rice cooked with coconut, sambal was spicy, salty, chili fragrant. Chicken was sometimes tough on the outside and dry. Eggs were nice, and the fried anchovies and peanuts were a good addition. Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts!
Great food at super reasonable prices.
Doesn t solve my craving for good hainanese chicken but the nasi lemak seems pretty true to authentic if you like spicy food.
Horrible service
Cash only. The meal is reasonable.
We ordered Malaysian Char Gui Diao and Nasi Lemak. Both were supposed to be spicy but the server gave us the not so spicy ones. Yet, I am still sweating like crazy. Having said that, both tasted great. We loved the food and the service. The dining room was so so but we were there for the food and they were not disappointing. We will certainly be back to try other food, like Hainan chicken rice, Samba shrimp (hope they got the smelly beans, too).
The best Char Keay teaw in Canada that I have tasted so far.
Hidden away spot on the second floor of Dragon City Mall that serves Malaysian and Hong Kong diner faire. Really like the spicy nasi lemak which came with soup and milk tea.
I ordered Malaysian Stir Fried Hokkien Noodle and lemon ice tea food was good but the bill was 20.30$ i give them 100$ they take 4$ extra i asked reason they said its a tips for service like a mafia that was so unexpected and unfair
Back in the day, I used to be a regular at this cozy little joint known for serving up a nice bowl of fish head pickled green noodle soup. It was my goto comfort food, a dish that never failed to warm my heart. But then came the age of COVID-19, and with it, a change that I hadnt anticipated. The last few times I visited, I couldnt help but notice that something had shifted in the kitchen. The soup, once a harmonious blend of flavors, had lost its former glory. The fish head, once tender and succulent, now seemed lackluster, and the broth lacked the zesty punch it once had. I couldnt quite put my finger on it, but it was evident that the quality had taken a nosedive. Ive been left wondering whether they hired a new chef or if the pandemic has made it challenging to source the freshest ingredients. Its a pity to see such a beloved dish falter like this. Despite the disappointment, I havent entirely given up on the place. Im holding out hope that theyll bounce back, that the fish head pickled green noodle soup will once again reign supreme. Maybe Ill muster the courage to give it another try down the road, hoping to recapture those flavors that used to bring me so much joy. Until then, Ill cherish the memories of those flavorful bowls of soup, hoping for brighter days in the future.
We ve been missing Malaysian food and this one is pretty close to home . Sambal is quite spicy so make sure you drink a lot of water and bring your towel . Definitely will be coming back to try out some of the menu.
Ordered a Nasi Lemak for pick up cuz my coworker was so hype about it. However, The chicken was so dry. The portion of the meat was so small it s not worth the $15.25 I feel scammed!
This is one of our go to restaurants for Malaysian food in the GTA. Authentic Malaysian food reasonably priced. Our favourite dishes are the Char Kwey Teow, Hokkien Mee and Nasi Lemak.
The food was excellent and the staff were lovely
Fantastic and nostalgic.
Food was fresh, service was efficienct and the lemon tea was delicious! Will definitely come back!
Awesome nasi lemak combo with very yummy (and spicy) sambal, cordyceps soup and lemon tea! We also had their fried kuey teow-mee. This was cooked right with a nice smoky taste that we enjoy in this famous Malaysian dish. Only issue here: they only accept CASH transactions here. Would ve ordered more food if I could use my debit card. :) we saw two customers leave upon seeing this notice.
Love there food!!!! Delicious and good price. Good combo including main dish, soup and drink. Also they provide hot tea for free. My favorite dish is black pepper sauce with slice steak on rice. Cold Hong Kong style milk tea taste amazing. Service are excellent, We go everyday~~~Its worth it!!!
Great Malaysia food in downtown Toronto. I had Nasi Lemak and it was really good.
offer multiple styles of asian food with fair price
Tried the Malaysian dishes here and they were all good - the char kway teow is the star! The nasi lemak sambal and rice had nice flavour too. Good downtown option for Malaysian food.
This review is based on the nasi lemak. Ordered over the phone to pick up my order and it was ready in a quick 10 minutes. The dish comes with sambal, fried chicken, an egg, peanuts, dried anchovies and cucumbers over a bed of rice. The sambal is very spicy and has a sweet and complex flavour that was perfect with rice. You also get a mix of textures from all the ingredients. You get a good portion for the price.
Great little spot for excellent Hong Kong/Malaysian style food! Nasi Lemak was amazing.
Im from Singapore so the Southeast Asian dishes here are very close to my heart. That said, I know its hard to get 100% authenticity all the way in Canada so Ill try not to be TOO nitpicky. Here we go... Nasi lemak: The star of the show. The egg threw me off a little (Im more used to seeing it cooked sunnyside up), but everything else was on point. I loved the ikan bilis, peanuts and pandan rice and the whole dish tasted like how I remember it back home. The fried chicken was very crispy despite being covered with sambal sauce. The sambal packed a punch, so be careful if youre not a fan of heat! Chao Gui Diao: This was a bang on reproduction of the original dish in terms of presentation and flavors. I was surprised they went all the way in with pork lard and didnt skimp with the shrimp. The only disappointment was the texture of the noodles - I felt they were too thick and it got exhausting to eat after awhile. Chicken rice: My all-time favorite dish! Happy to report that despite the unsettling yellowness of the rice and chicken, it was pretty tasty. The rice didnt taste as aromatic (maybe they didnt cook it in chicken broth?) and the chicken slices werent as tender as the original, but it was good overall. Hokkien noodles: This one was a letdown. I know its KL style, but I was expecting a lighter version with thinner noodles that wasnt so drenched in sweet soy sauce. It almost felt like eating Shanghainese noodles. Not a big fan.
Ordered the Nasi Lemak and Char Kway Teow. Absolutely amazing. If you like spicy food, then you gotta try the Nasi Lemak! Very flavorful with so many different elements of deliciousness. Would come again! Affordable eats. Bring cash! Located on the 2nd floor.
A pretty decent Malaysian restaurant that also includes Hong Kong style and other Asian fusion foods. Price is alright.
Really good Indian food. I had the goat curry, it was delicious, so good I didn t get a chance to take a photo of the dish because I ate it immediately and I m not sorry. Only thing is the price is rather expensive but it s worth a visit if you re into Indian cuisine!
One of my favourite Chinese/HK restaurants in Toronto. Scrumptious food for very affordable prices!
(CASH ONLY) Cool spot! Actually directly inside Dragon City Mall. Great, decently priced Hong Kong eats. Not as greasy as the photos look, so the little extra price over other spots is worth it. Each of us tried 1 thing at random and each one was good for the price! Id say check this out.
Was served food that smelled like it had gone bad, and found hair in food. When we complained, they refused to fix anything, and when we didnt tip, they complained that we didnt tip, even though they did nothing to improve our experience.
Cash only, great chicken rice
I know this is mainly a Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, but when the chef is Malaysian, I had to go with one of the few Malaysian dishes on the menu: I got the Nasi Lemak Combo. Ive never had nasi lemak before, and I enjoyed it. The chicken was tender, the sambal sauce it was swimming in was good spicy (meaning, not just hot but flavourful hot), and the rice had a strong coconut taste that lingered to balance the sambal heat. Combo came with standard soup and your choice of drink (I got the HK milktea, which was a bit watered down for my taste). At $15, the combo was great value. Overall service was efficient. And while the place was spartan, it was clean and spacious enough to make the meal enjoyable. If Im in the area, Ill definitely go back to try Canteens other dishes.
I love this place so much - everything about it is precious. Tried so many of the item on the menu and have always had a fantastic experience. Two of my most favourite dishes are the Nasi Lemak and the Malayasian Chou Geow Dao. The menu has several Hong Kong and Malaysian dishes and its a good value for money portion. Best part is the family that runs the place - extremely hospitable and they put a lot of heart into this establishment. Undoubtedly one of my top restaurants in toronto.
I ordered the pav bhaji and samosas. The bhaji portion first of all was amazing. So was the taste. A classically Indian taste. Best pav bhaji I ve had in Toronto, period!
All meals are delicious and of high quality.
Im not a Karen but my soup had something similar to a cigarette butt in it. I cannot really confirm it as I asked about it and they took it away before a real confirmation was made. My friends are psychopaths so they decided to stay and eat the food. They said the food was good, cant say the same for me though.
Very yummy indeed. The meat and potatoes in the curry was chopped small which made it more tender and flavourful, however also seemed small portioned. Could use an update on decor. Very friendly staff
Been coming here for a few months. They serve authentic Malaysian food. And as far as I know it s the only place near downtown that does. Reasonably price. They are tucked away inside this mall in Chinatown and accept cash only which I don t mind if it s means they can keep prices low without need to pay bank fees or expensive rent, which to me is a win win. Only complaint I have is the nasi lemak is tasty but unnecessarily spicy, too spicy even for a Malaysian. It would be great if they keep the flavour of the Sambal but reduce the spice level and serve a side of chillies instead.
Fantastic food. Had the Nasi Lemak (comes with a choice of drink and a portion of their soup of the day) and the pork chop. Both extremely tasty and the portion sizing was good. The price is very reasonable as well. Overall a fantastic meal. **CASH ONLY**
Affordable, highly recommend the mushroom beef rice with tomato sauce and nasi lemak!
Came here because we miss southeast asian food and they didn t disappoint! We ordered the hainanese chicken rice, nasi lemak, kwetiaw noodles, and some wings. They re all honestly great, even the HK Milk tea tasted fresh. The condiments are also great. For the price and value it s reasonable. Great service and overall clean space as well :) will come back!
10/10 taste, authentic south east asian food
Very cozy and authentic Singaporean / Malaysian food. Highly recommend! Quiet little spot inside the mall. Friendly and efficient service, will come back again!
Pretty decent spot. Good value and decent food for Chinatown. Overall it s still missing my favourite classic HK baked pork chop dish.
Great deals. Good food. Great service. All the HK cafe staples
Very good, delicious and cheap.
Lovee their offerings of authentic Malaysian food ! The Char Gway Teow (cooked with my fav - lard) and their chili sambal is a must for spicy lovers So grateful to be able to have this taste of home abroad ! It warms my heart everytime. Also, not to mention the food portion is great value $. Go show your support to the local businesses now during these difficult times . Will definitely come back again and again !
The price is reasonable, but not delicious. It was the first time for me as an adult to see baked pork chop rice with broccoli. The pork chop was bland, the sauce was tasteless, and the rice was rotten and not fried. There is also a curry chicken rice, which is nothing like Malaysian curry. It is not fragrant and has no taste. I really want to support independent shops, but this one really sucks. Price is reasonable, but tastes is very much below average. I have never in my life seen baked pork chop rice that has steamed vegetable. Tastes is very bland, pork chop is not fried, rice is not fried and too soft. I really want to support independent restaurants, but unfortunately this one is not my cup of tea.
The Nasi Lemak was great and the soup was good too. If you re a fan of spicy food, this is good and tastes authentic. Excited to go back to try their other Malaysian dishes.
An unassuming spot upstairs that serves a very tasty, spicy and authentic Nasi Lemak in downtown Toronto Chinatown. It has all the fixings in a nasi lemak and the chicken is the clincher - a slightly sweet, sambal coated piece of Malaysian cooking. It used to be a compromise whenever I wanted a nasi lemak but this is really impressive.
The nasi lemak is really good. It s definitely got a kick to it (which is delicious)and they re generous with their portions. If you re hankering for nasi lemak downtown - totally recommend it!
Sedap la! Really tasty nasi lemak and appreciate the authenticity. Rice was fragrant (coconut for sure and maybe also pandan), sambal was addictive and nice touch with the banana leaf liner on the bottom. So happy to discover this place..
I m from Singapore and was craving Singapore food so badly. Came to Toronto from Ottawa for a food trip. We ordered take out. Their Nasi Lemak and chicken rice brought back beautiful food memories from home. Their sambal chili and ikan bilis in the Nasi Lemak dish really hit the spot for me. I only gave them 4/5 because I m a foodie from Singapore and of course I ate many extremely delicious food in Singapore. But this place is definitely worth a shot if you love Singapore food and want to have some in Canada because I know it s pretty hard to find Singapore food here. Thank you Canteen for bringing some Singapore food to Toronto! It brought a smile to my face!
This place rules.
Daniel is a cool guy
Hidden gem in Chinatown!
Best Malaysian food in downtown Toronto (Nasi Lemak & Char Kuey Teow), please support them!
I feel nostalgic when I dine in this restaurant as it brings back memories about how delicious Malaysian food are. The waitress is very friendly as well. Recommend this place.
This restaurant is situated in the heart of aurban area near the university of toronto. It is a favorite hangout for Chinese food lovers. The decor is a stunning mix of Chinese and Canadian canteen style Every table provides a clear view of the staff working in the restaurant. Diners without reservation are invited to wait in a beautifully decorated mall corridor with comfortable airconditioning and thematic artwork. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious and mouthwatering starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike. I had curry fish with rice, as well as vegetable soup. My friend tried the thin cut steak with Chinese soup. They were all exquisite. Everything we ate was fresh and delicious. The chefs use the best quality ingredients to produce dishes that are simply delightful. The restaurant also offers a wonderful drink menu, and they offer one of the best soup in the region. The drinks are pricey but surely worth sampling. I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is brilliant.
Growing up in Singapore, their Malaysian cuisine is pretty spot-on and as authentic as you can get in downtown Toronto. Extremely affordable prices compared to other South East Asian speciality restaurants.
Very affordable, more than average portion of foods, speedy service, lots of options to choose from!
Galli fish
I miss the soup during this lockdown! I always order two! I hope everyone there is okay!
Best affordable two course meal plus coffee/tea combo diner - western style chinese diner. Food is consistently good. Price is awesome for people on budget. Service is fast. However its cash only. Has traditional Chinese cold n hot drinks.
Love that nasi lemak
Secret delicious
Cheap but tasty Chinese restaurants $8 or 9.5 for lunch specials
Good decoration, good service and got my food very quick
The food is amazing here. Lots of variety and its very tasty.
Great service, really polite and friendly. Food is tasty with extremely reasonable prices!
Okey.
Chinese eatery with authentic food
Excellent lunch specials and Malaysian Singaporean specialties. Very friendly staff!
Authentic Hong Kong eatery. Flavors were unlike most of the americanized chinese food. Service was great and the prizes are amazing. Would recommend it to everyone who need a quick bite in Chinatown.
love the food there, they have really good price and quality of food
Price is reasonable, service is great! Plenty of food variety. Good quality too!
Good variety of dishes..
Food is really good among HK cafe style restaurants
I was used to a regular to this eat place when i was in downtown in past 5 years. If you are looking for authentic HK cafe styles and South East Asia food, this place will not let you down. Plus it is very affordable and the vibe is okay not particularly fancy or classic but their food will make you come back again. I love the curry fish head noodles and hokkien style noodles, superb!
Great food at great prices
Busy place. Good eats!
The food was ok, and the service was good.
Best Hong Kong food in Toronto
Pretty good, I go there everyday these days, I didnt know its hong kong food, but they serve all kinds of food like chinese and western. I have to have the hong kong style milk tea everyday. Good because they have many kinds of stuff, different style food. And its a small restaurant on the second floor of the mall, can be like a little coffee shop people can go regularly.
Good and cheap Hong Kong food place in Chinatown.
Good food for a cheap price. Quick service. Friendly staff.
Nice place, casual, patio, original food and good service. Prices are very fair.
Price so cheap. Pay only cash
Canteen is usually my go-to place for Hong Kong style food. Their milk tea, and Chinese Borscht is on point! Ive had many classic dishes from here and Ive never had a bad order. Although they only do cash, located on second floor, and the bathroom is not in their unit and requires a key to walk around the corner, their food and service is pretty worth it! Its a hidden gem in Chinatown!
