We had an amazing tempura omakase dinner experience here and loved that they offer this unique experience in Toronto. I’m not sure why others had negative experiences with it, but perhaps they have since improved as we had no complaints and had a great meal. They had a 30% off dinner promo (cash only) when we visited. The cash only part is clearly advertised on their Instagram and they mentioned it along with their deposit and cancellation policy (also mentioned on their website) when they called to confirm the reservation by phone two days prior. Our chef was so kind and funny, interacting with us here and there throughout the meal to describe the dishes in both Japanese and English, and showed us the raw ingredients (tonight’s fresh seafood prior to the meal starting). He also made recommendations on how to eat each dish, i.e. which of their 3 specialty house made salts or tentsuyu to pair it with (or not). Tempura batter was light and perfectly done for every single dish. Our favourites included the shirako (cod fish eggs, looked like brains!), uni on shiso leaf, anago (sea eel), nasu (eggplant), and yam. Dessert was a simple house made matcha ice cream, and fruit was offered as a dairy-free option. Portions were generous and we started feeling full half way through the meal! Needless to say that we left very full and satisfied. Note, 15% gratuity is added automatically to your bill.

Excellent in every aspect. Best and most authentic food since I lived in Japan. The service was excellent and the food was top notch. Ingredients are fresh- menu depends on what is fresh each day. If you know sushi, you must visit this spot. Saito, the waiter, was very attentive and friendly.

We tried their tempura Omakase tasting menu for first time. We bring our own wine and restaurant charge $35 for corkage fee, which I think is very reasonable. Meal start with sashimi appetizers, follow by seafood items (prawns, scallop, fish, squid and Hokkaido uni on fried perilla. With a small fresh fruit to cleans your palate, the second part of the meal is all vegetable (eggplant, asparagus, pumpkin, stuffed mushroom , ginseng and sweet potatoes). All dishs were cooked to perfection, and don’t next much extra seasoning. Chef Saito and other staffs were all very attentive and detail oriented. I would definitely recommend this experience to others.

Great value for omakase! For $55 per person at lunch, it’s very affordable. The meal is quite filling, especially the hand roll, and the squid sushi was my favorite. Service is good. Since it was Halloween, the chef offered us some candy at the end

Had the dinner omakase (17-course) and it lived up to my expectations! The omakase included Japanese delicacy items eg monkfish liver and uni. Overall the ingredients were very fresh (and authentic!!!) and I absolutely loved the experience. The chef and the waitress lady were very attentive.

Worth every penny! The omakase menu is affordable, the experience and quality of food exceeds all expectations. The chefs are friendly and share interesting descriptions / explanations of the sushi they serve. $55 lunch for this quality is totally worth it. For this price 8 sushi, a roll and miso soup, it is a really amazing deal. Overall, it is really enjoyable and I will definitely recommend it. Great spot for any sushi lover!

Having tried other omakase, the rice could be warmer. We came for lunch. At $55, it is quite a good deal for 10 courses. Yet, you can tell the difference in the ingredients compared to a $98 meal. We are quite satisfied. Might come again for a casual lunch.

With all my respect, this place is a scam! With 2 phone calls to confirm my reservation, no one told me that the 30% off promo only applies to cash. Even not on their website where we spotted in the first place. We were rudely forced to get our cash with a 5 mins walk outside without any explanation either apology. The owner who was present didnt show any understanding of his own mistake but rather chose to be indifferent! I cant stop to wonder if there is any bureau that I can report this shameless scam for stopping more people to be the victim. Please be careful to ask before you choose to dine here!

Misleading Promotion and Dishonest Business Practices ABSOLUTELY!!!! We had a deeply disappointing experience at this restaurant. My friend and his team called twice to confirm all the details of a holiday promotion before dining in, only to be hit with a shocking surprise upon arrival the promotion was only valid for cash payments. At no point during the calls was this crucial detail mentioned. This feels like an underhanded attempt to dodge taxes, as there was no transparency, no explanation, and absolutely no apology from the owner or staff. Customers deserve honesty and clarity, especially when they go out of their way to double-check information. Deceptive tactics like this break trust and tarnish the dining experience. If you re considering this place, be warned: what you re promised may not be what you receive.

I have known the owner when he had a Japanese restaurant in the Beaches. The food has always been excellent and authentic. Now with the omakase, its a great experience. The service, food and ambiance are top notch. I highly recommend this place for a first time omakase, or for seasoned omakase enthusiasts.

September 23, 2024

This is the worst Japanese food experience Ive ever had. First of all, there is too little food, only one sashimi, 10 pieces of sushi, and one soup, one barbecue. These dishes alone cost around 200 per person. Second, the ingredients are not fresh, seafood into the mouth have a fishy taste, after eating the nausea are vomited; Sushi rice is very hard and tasteless. Third, there is a table for a dozen people, only one waiter, and no one can be found to add tea. I cant imagine this is the kind of service you should be paying so much for.

This is a fantastic place. Its unpretentious, but professional. Its significantly less expensive than most of the other omakase places and that is because the location and leasehold improvements are not crazy/overboard, so they dont have to charge the patron for all that. Torontos omakase places are generally all so reaching, with costly rent / location, and expensive fixtures and renos . Not so in NYC or Tokyo, where handsome, clean, fantastic, approachable omakase places abound that are not all over the top. I dont mind those super dressy places, but its superfluous for real sushi lovers. So Ill go to those maybe once every year or so, whereas as this wonderful place is worthy of monthly visits. Good job Edomae Kiyomi.

Edit- may 25,2024: went there for Tempura Omakase (2 times) since the last post. Not something I have experienced before in TO.. I wonder if this is the only restaurant in TO that offer Tempura Omakase. The food are perfectly fried and particularly the seafood, nice and tender inside and crispy outside and doesn t feel oily. Not cheap but worth it We went for lunch today on a Sunday and we have Omakase course today. They would provide water but if u want hot tea, cost is $5. I ordered green tea and the tea seems quite good and they do refill it for you quickly, I guess they should since they charge u $5. The staff seems quite friendly and they are also accommodating for my allergy. The seatings are on sushi counter and spacious and the restaurant decor looks clean and relaxing. Most importantly, the fish I have today is quite fresh! U actually get the nice fresh fish aroma instead of the unpleasant fishy smell when they r not fresh. So I am happy getting these kind of freshness today. Not too many restaurants offer fish that have this fresh aroma. Glad I passed by the area today and get seatings to try! For this price, $55, I personally thinks it worth it. Hopefully it s always this fresh . I will come back for sure if I am in the area next time!

Edomae Kiyomi is a TRUE hidden gem that delivers an extraordinary dining experience! From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the elegant and serene ambiance. The minimalist decor, combined with subtle traditional Japanese elements, creates a perfect setting for an authentic sushi experience. The fish at Edomae Kiyomi is incredibly fresh and of the highest quality. Each piece of sushi is a testament to the chefs dedication to traditional Edomae techniques. The flavors are pure and delicate, allowing the natural taste of the fish to shine through. Every bite was a delightful journey of texture and taste. The service was impeccable. The staff was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about the food they were serving. They took the time to explain each course, which added to the overall experience and made me appreciate the craftsmanship even more. Edomae Kiyomi is a must-visit for sushi enthusiasts. The combination of freshness, exquisite flavors, and outstanding service makes it a standout in the city. I can t wait to return and savor this exceptional culinary art form again!

I made a one day reservation and had the omakase sushi lunch. It s been a full year since I ve had omakase and I felt it was fun to experience again. I found the exterior entrance a little confusing because the restaurant is inside what is probably a rezoned house but they renovated the interior and it is quite nice. They also had a pretty wide drink selection.

Good sushi and sashimi, lots of different seafood to try which is great. Service is great and the rice is delicious, perfect temperature and seasoning. Get the sake tasting, I loved it, the yuzu one was one of the best drinks ive had. More authentic vibe and menu. Not many experimental flavour combinations, which can either be a good or bad thing depending what you like. Was not a fan of the egg bread at the end. Overall delicious but simple flavours, scallop and sea bream are always a win but with so many courses, most of the fish types are mediocre to my taste. I would rather get fewer but super premium ingredients. You also get sashimi and soup, i was super full by the end.

Mediocre experience for a premium. The first sign should have been when we called on Saturday around 7:30 p.m. for a reservation and was immediately seated. For $150 a person, the food and atmosphere was absolutely mediocre. The waitress was unable to clarify basics such as what type of green tea was being served. The fish was okay tasting, oftentimes chewy. The dessert was so bad, I thought I had misheard what was being served. The overall atmosphere was unpleasant as we ended up being the last people served and so the other chef started cleaning their stations at the sink which was visible behind the counter which we were being served at. To top off this night, we were forced to pay a 15% tip for a table of two despite having mediocre service, mediocre food and just an overall mediocre time. I am not sure why this place has decent reviews given the quality of the food and service. In a city as big as Toronto, there must be other Omakases that you can go to.

I left an OpenTable review and they delete my review, so I m leaving it here again I have to say the restaurant tried, but the execution didn t meet the expectations . For freshly fried seafood, it will taste good but at a tempura omakase restaurant you should expect more. Like the freshness from the seafood, the tempura batter is different. There was a dish with Japanese uni on fried shiso leaves, the uni is so not fresh it left an odor in my mouth The miso soup is made with botan shrimp and white fish and it smell so fishy I had to close the lid (n of course didn t consume it) Dessert is green tea tofu cheesecake and i Would say I can make better I would not come again n would not recommend anyone

OVERALL: Wonderful omakase experience in the city. Definitely recommend it if youre looking for premium sushi omakase in Toronto. Well be back to try the tempura omakase experience which is one of a kind. VENUE: Came in on a Friday evening with a 7pm reservations. The restaurant is nicely designed for a premium experience. We loved the design of the back wooden wall. Street parking was available across the street, directly infront of the restaurant. FOOD: We opted for the sushi omakase experience but will definitely be back to try the tempura omakase. The sushi course had 21 items which is a lot. It started with an excellent sashimi appetizer and was followed by a great selection of sushi pieces. We sat facing sushi chef Katsumi who was great at explaining each sushi piece to us along with some of the history and nuance with his style of sushi, including the Edomae specialty of preparing the fish. The stand-out pieces for me were the squid in the sashimi appetizer, mackeral (cooked), scallop, toro (there were two), the chef handroll. I also ordered a sake flight (3) to go along with my meal. The sake was an top notch selection and each one was different that went nicely with my food. SERVICE: The nuance of an omakase restaurant is the service experience is both from the server and the sushi chef which Ive touched on above. Our server was excellent. She was kind and offered to check our coats. When we sat down, she explained to us the omakase course ahead and offered us a drink menu with recommendations. She was attentive and checked up on us quite regularly including removing plates that came with some courses and refilling water etc. VALUE: The premium omakase experience is pricey but its at the expected price point that is comparable with competitors in the city. For the price, you expect high quality food, drinks and excellent service and it was all delivered.

I had the pleasure of celebrating my birthday at Edomae Kiyomi, and it was an unforgettable experience! The 17-item sushi omakase was an absolute delight, with each piece expertly crafted using only the freshest and most premium ingredients imported directly from Japan. The golden sushi rice was the perfect complement to the fresh seafood, and the soup and dessert made freshly in the kitchen every day were the perfect way to round out the meal. But what really stood out was the exceptional service from the attentive staff, who were incredibly mindful of my shellfish allergy and took great care to ensure that every dish was safe for me to enjoy. Overall, it was an exceptional dining experience that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a truly authentic and unforgettable sushi experience.

A great traditional Japanese Omakase (chefs choice) experience! Food was delicious. Although there were some non-typical North American sushi items on the menu, everything should be quite palatable for newcomers to Omakase! Pricing was neither too high or too low for the quality of food served. However, if you re inexperienced with this kind of dining, be sure to review the cost ahead of time, as it may be surprising to you. The preparation of the fish was all wonderful and they can also be accommodating if there are specific items you cannot eat/are allergic to. If you re looking for an alternative to Kaji and Yasu in the East end, then this is your place! Vegetarian options: None Kid-friendliness: Keep your kids home please Wheelchair accessibility: Very difficult. There is a steep staircase leading to the entrance.

Best value omakase lunch in town. The ingredients are pretty fresh and was very impressed by the homemade fish soup towards the end. We were assigned a chef that seems relatively younger and less experienced than the other chef. There were some mistakes in making our sushi (the sliced fish fell off from the nigiri and eventually changed into a gunkan). Our chef seems a little stressed out towards the end but none of these impacted our experience. The sushi still turns out great and we would like to extend our gratitude to our chef who prepared the food for us.

We went for their lunch special. Service was good, our seating time started a little later due to the previous group which was understandable. I would say you pay for what you get, in terms of the price and the quality of the fish. I can only comment on the lunch special since I have never been to the dinner service. We found the sushi on this day was slightly overly brushed with soy sauce, where we couldnt really taste the fish. It was not a deal breaker but maybe just a preference. Review for the lunch omakase: I was greeted with a warm welcome and seated immediately after coming in. The interior and atmosphere were nice and the place was clean. I spoke briefly with one of the chefs and he was both kind and funny. I really enjoyed my experience here because I was able try a variety of seafood I would normally not have. My favourite was the blue fin tuna hand roll (not pictured - I put my phone away at that point to focus more on the experience). I also enjoyed the squid and Hokkaido uni (sea urchin) sushi, which you can see in the photo. The soup was also very good. The temperature was just perfect - not too hot that it ll burn your tone, but also not too cold that it ll taste bad. The lunch omakase included 8 pieces of sushi, hand roll, and homemade soup. You need to reserve for the lunch omakase, and it is about an hour long. I found the price fair. Servers and chef were great.

sea bass sushi rice way to sticky and loose, sea bass is pretty tangy and gooey but shiso is pretty refreshing, bland but a good start yellow tail slightly more fishy and fatty than sea bass, seasoned light fresh wasabi sea bass x2 i need ppl to riddle me abt why sea bass showed up again, this time with fresh wasabi, it s less rich than yellow tail and it s kinda breaking the rhythm bonito seared tuna lean, less fatty, but more smoky and mature, a little bit dryer, and the temperature of the rice just keep getting colder lol miso soup dry shrimp soup nothin impressive, a bit dull tasting then i think scallop with chili pepper(?) or fresh kosho the scallop is fresh and sweet really meaty but wasabi and chili pepper together is too overpowering, might be better if that goes with something lighter like sweet light soy sauce squid and uni squid is kinda crisp on the outside but really creamy and gooey on the inside, so far my fav, slight briny and it s goes really well with the texture and sweetness of uni but same problem cold sushi rice, overpowering wasabi blue fin tuna the fish is loose and flaky do not have the frequent oiliness of good tuna and also they do not introduce which part of tuna it is like toro, etc tuna negitoro just bits and pieces of tuna, kinda too lean, slightly dry tamago way too watery and cold in general same seasoning for different fish, no rhythm from white to red fish, no design from bland to rich, no introduction for what part of tuna it is, sushi rice is too loose and sticky, did not toast their seaweed sheets, mid for omakase

Way overpriced for the quality. The quality of the sushi is just about the same as any delivered by belt type sushi restaurant in Japan. Calling making and serving very average sushi an Omakase experience is just fraud. Not to mention after spending close to CAD$90, you left hungry.... The tip was charged to the bill directly leaving you no room for discretion even if the service is just average.

First time trying omakase at this gem and the food was phenomenal. We got to talk to the sushi chef who has been in his craft for over 15 years. Star dish of the night was the grilled bluefin tuna which was a recipe the chef learned from his mother. Greatly enjoyed this experience and will definitely be back!

We went there to celebrate a birthday dinner and it was more than we imagined. The food was fresh, light and carefully paired with its toppings. The menu we had included grilled Blue fin and it was spectacular (also on the house!) My friend and I agreed that our favorite of the night was the striped jack sashimi (thick cut, fatty and refreshing). My favorite pairing was the ikura uni on rice paired with a light fish broth. 10/10, would recommend!

As someone whos eaten at Michelin starred restaurants in Japan, Im always careful to level set my expectations when I eat high end sushi in Canada. The sushi at Edomae is certainly good, but apart from the ambience and atmosphere, it wasnt any different from the standard upper tier of sushi one would find in town. And as friendly as the serving staff was, they couldnt describe one particular dish or even the basic concept of Edomae sushi. I think its a given that paying $150 will get you good sushi. But its the other things and finer details that make it worth a second visit. Personally, once is enough for me.

I booked the tempera omakase course a week ago to celebrate 2nd yr anniversary with my girlfriend. However, the restaurant somehow gave me the sushi course instead. I understand you guys were busy due to the lockdown policy, but no one apologized for your mistakes while we sitting there for 45 mins . The sashimi was on my table right away when I sat down, but nobody gave me the menu, chopsticks or hot water until 10mins after I arrived. I hope you guys enjoy the new year and thanks for ruining my anniversary !

Perhaps I came on a bad day, but the service was not up to par for such a high end restaurant. As you may have read from other reviews, the restaurant is split into two, serving both sushi and tempura omakase during the same time slots. There was only one server assisting both sides. Understandably there is a staff shortage due to the pandemic, but I felt that the attitude of the server was not very welcoming. She was always in a rush and there were instances where she came off as rude. I tried the sushi omakase, and it was alright, was not blown away or impressed by anything. Most nigiri pieces were overpowered by wasabi. Home-made soup tasted very watery. Was disappointed by the ikura. Usually this is paired with another fish, I ve seen it being paired with Kani and Uni in the past, but on this day we just got shredded cucumbers. The chef didn t really explain each piece or answer any questions customers had. He was very focused on making each dish. I don t think his English is very good, which is fine. However what baffled me was how there was a couple that evidently never had omakase, and they were never explained the process. The chef kept looking over at how things were being eaten wrong, but never notified the server to come over and explain. Other customers had to step in, which I can only imagine took away from their experience. Overall the omakase experience was pretty mediocre and underwhelming. I m glad I got to check Edomae off my list, but I don t think it was worth the $148 price tag.

We had a good time at edomae kiyomi as a date night. It was a rather quiet Sunday night but we did enjoy the privacy. Didnt like that the sashimi appetizer was pre-plated on the chefs counter before we arrived. The tempura omakase had a wide variety and allowed us to try new things. The batter was okay, not as loose and crispy as we had in Japan. Chef was very kind and explained each item. Green tea was great. Overall a good experience.

December 23, 2022

The service is not what you would expect from a fine dining experience, certainly not at this price point. Both the chef and the waitress didn t seem to be at all knowledgeable about what they were serving. Each dish was barely explained, aside from its name. My husband and I got the tempura omakase and it was absolutely delicious. We lived in Tokyo for a few years and ever time I get tempura outside of Japan I am extremely disappointed. However, when I ate here I was pleasantly surprised. The tempura was extremely light, fluffy and crunchy. Even though the tempura was just fried the temperate of each item was hot but not scalding. It was perfect. The scallops were so incredibly fresh and had a wonderful lingering sea flavor. They were crunchy on the outside and melt in your mouth sashimi style on the inside. The uni came straight from Hokkaido, was high quality and had a delicious lingering sea flavor as well. I found that the chef used the highest quality ingredients and that you got a lot of value out of the meal. Some of my favorites were the maiitake mushrooms, scallops, ebi (shrimp), uni on Shiso, abalone etc. the list goes on. Additionally you start the meal with a wonderful plate of sushi. I also loved the shrimp clear broth soup. It was bursting with umami and had such a wonderful pleasant flavor. I appreciated that the chef makes the salts homemade and everything from scratch it shows. The chef and all the staff were very pleasant and friendly. I had the ume shu with my meal and it was delicious. From the hospitality, the decor, the drink menu, food offerings and even the tooth picks in the bathroom, it really made me feel like we were back in Japan. I highly recommend coming here to dine, you will not be disappointed.

Was really not a fan of this place. We had originally reserved the Tempura Omakase but we also ordered sushi on the side which summed up to over $100 per plate(7 pieces), obviously this amount was not discussed with us and was just what they were offering. Had a few drinks as well, somehow the bill came to $700 for my wife and I. Im not saying I wouldnt spend $700 on food that is phenomenal, but last half of the tempura omakase were just vegetables, and slapping on a Japanese name in front of the food doesnt justify jacking up the prices to $150 per person. Not to mention there was nothing especially light or fluffy about the batter on the tempura. This restaurant tries to market itself as a high-end Japanese experience, but the decor and service did not match the expectations. The sushi was okay. Do yourself a favour and take that $150 to a Kibo sushi and order yourself 4 days worth of tempura instead. Do no recommend this place.

Exceptional Omakase experience at Edomae Kiyomi. We picked the sushi Omakase combo for our anniversary dinner, we arrived a little early for a Tuesday and the chef was just getting ready for a light seating for a weeknight. The appetizer sashimi course was refreshing, then the sushi course really shine. The highlight was the uni & salmon eggs rice bite, the fresh uni along with brown rice was well balanced with the salmon eggs salty taste. Tuna was exception as well. To close, the hand roll was wonderful and that include some of the better seaweed wrap we have had for a long time.

Great omakase experience with Chef Kevin! The sushi and tempura experience are both worth trying. If you have to choose one, the tempura omakase is a more unique experience, since no other restaurants offer it. They use fresh and seasonal ingredients, so the selection may change from season to season. And my god, the salts and tempura dipping sauce are to die for! Great sake selection even with the supply chain issues impacting every restaurants ability to import sake from Japan. Worth the price for the personalized and delicious omakase experience! Thank you so much to Kevin and the Edomae Kiyomi team! See you again soon!

I just had my worst Omakase experience in Toronto. Firstly, the course I booked was the tempura omakase. It was only after we started eating that I realized we received the sushi omakase instead. I asked the waitress why we were served the the wrong course and was then told we were accidentally put on the wrong course list. We decided to overlook the mistake and continued with the sushi course. However, that was only the beginning of a list of mistakes and horrible service the restaurant made. During the two hours of the meal, the teacup was only refilled once during the entire meal and remained empty the rest of the meal, completely ignored by the waiting staff. After our soup course, the waitress only took away my friends bowl and left my empty bowl on the table until the sixth course after it. A piece of kelp was lying on the table the entire time, the Waitress did not even attempt to clean any thing during the dinner. Regarding the ingredients, the shellfish were soft and not fresh, and the eel sushi was not properly deboned. After dinner, I waited for the dessert for nearly half an hour. I kindly told the waitress that todays dining experience was as not expected, but she responded in a defensive tone with a look of disbelief on her face that she received a review less than superb, Oh? What did I do wrong? The lack of awareness, coupled with an unapologetic attitude rubbed me the wrong way so I made myself clear regarding the quality of service I ve received. The waitress tone became hostile, ok so what do you want? I immediately said I didn t want anything, but wanted to bring to attention the negative experience we received during our meal. She then just left the table with a terrible attitude and zero apology. When the payment machine was handed to us there was no dinner amount entered in, we had to enter everything in by ourself. From the taste to especially the service, by far this was my worst dinner experience in Canada. This is the first restaurant in Canada that I gave 0 tips. Avoid this restaurant at all cost.

Very solid sushi omakase and reasonable price. I just tried Yasu before writing this review and in comparison I like my experience at Edomae better. The rice has better texture and is less sticky and the fish has more vibrant flavors. Highlight is the scallop sushi I even ordered an extra at the end. It has a surprisingly complex and colorful flavor. One imperfection is the maki at the end. It seems the nori is not roasted before making the maki so the nori is a bit chewy instead of crunchy. Four stars only because I rarely give five stars unless the meal is truly mindblowing.

Warm. Welcoming. Wow...said my mouth. The best kept secret in Toronto. Edomae Kiyomi is by far the best sushi in Toronto without a doubt. Katsumi and Kevin are perfect hosts: one working his culinary magic planning your taste extravaganza behind the bar, while the other choreographs wine, sake, lovely conversation and good laughter. The presentation is as visually fulfilling as each morsel of sushi itself: each presentation stunningly beautiful and stunningly perfect. The quality is top notch, with both Japanese and Canadian fishes from the sea that are melt in mouth wonderfully different. Wine and Sake were matched well...I enjoyed both, much too much. Treat yourself to the Sake flight, and then order the one you love most by the glass. Dessert was a surprise and perfect end to a filling and fulfilling evening. Thank you both. Highly recommended.

3.5 at max. The quality really is just mediocre, nothing wowed us. The biggest pain point as a place that pushes for its , is exactly the lack of imagination like another reviewer said. Even with premium materials, none of them tasted any better than if you just go get those yourself raw from a seafood supplier. Is it as bad as those ultra westernized Japanese food? Not really; is it any better tho, don t think so. The service aspect is honestly nearly awkward. Overall not a place I d recommend to anybody who s looking for something that s a little bit more than your average dinner, or even simply a better-than-average .

We were lucky enough to have been able to snag this reservation. On this occasion the chef served my group of 3 as well as another couple. There was a good variety of seafood items that were prepared for us, and were shown raw prior to frying. There were several types of salt/sauce that we could flavour our food, I liked the mushroom salt the most. Anyway, while I did find the meal delicious as a whole, the tempura seemed to take away rather than add to the taste of the seafood, so we have instead rely on the salt/sauce. And eating a meal with a lot of fried foods felt greasier than the usual sushi omakase, not something I would want to do frequently. In any case very glad Toronto has a place like this.

The whole selection was very fresh, a wide selection of fish from southern Japan, including blue fin tuna and sea eel. The Hokkaido uni was one of the best Ive had and there was also Spanish mackeral which paired perfectly with the Kikusui junmai ginjo sake. At one point I was worried about eating too much fatty fish but the fish were all perfectly prepared there was not a worry. Overall it s underwhelming and mediocre. Other than running late with the previous group and we were waiting 15 mins for people to leave.. the other disappointing factor was the RICE- lukewarm in the beginning and cold near middle to finish. The fish was also very cold.. and it almost feels like you re eating something right out of the fridge. There were no attempt to change the rice. Normally restaurants change the rice 5-15 times per night depending on how experienced the restaurant is (to keep it warm and fresh). It is Edo style sushi but lacking in imagination and flavouring. No exciting flavours such as Yuzu used... just very traditional Edo.. which is in my opinion MEH for the price you re paying. It s also a boring atmosphere. The chefs are not attentive at all. The ingredients used in the tempura were also all very high quality and cooked perfectly. The tempura batter was nice, light and not at all greasy. You get a really great deep fried taste without feeling heavy after. Everything was really good and got a new appreciation of how good vegetables can taste. The Hokkaido scallop was ridiculous. Had to have a second portion. He also made a baby shrimp tempura dish on rice which was sooo good. Would never have something like that anywhere else. They have a great selection of sake. Went here for our anniversary dinner and got the Sushi Omakase. They did an impeccable job with social distancing and cleanliness. Super fair price, the pieces of sashimi/sushi were a great size, quality and taste. The chef made us a special dessert for our anniversary as well . Service was amazing, the gentlemen taking care of us paid a lot of attention and was super polite.

I was very skeptical at the tempura omakase but I was wrong. It was so good, definitely something different that you cant get anywhere else. All the items was super fresh and tasty The tempura batter was light and not oily. Just perfect I highly recommend this meal just once for the experience I went back here for the sushi omakase and it was so good. The selection of fish was great

The chefs here are absolutely wonderful, sweet, attentive people and the sushi is just the best in Toronto. Prepare to be very full by the end!

A wonderful omakase experience with fairly decent prices relative to others offered in and around downtown Toronto. You start with a sashimi appetizer of squid, spot prawn, fluke, and a kanpachi. Then, you move onto the nigiri, which consists of madai (sea bream), saba (mackerel), tuna, toro (fatty tuna), anago (sea eel), uni (sea urchin), kani (snow crab), shima aji (stripe jack), hotate (scallop), ikura rice bowl (salmon roe), hirame (fluke). You end with a hand roll of toro and green onions, a tamago, and a blueberry tofu cheesecake for dessert! Perfectly prepared with quality ingredients. An absolute delight here, not to mention, they have a tempura omakase option as well.

I know this place specializes in omakase but the regular food is just too disappointing. My oyakodon was steamed chicken pieces with a hardboiled egg. That is not oyakodon at all. Even the reference picture looks 100% different. The sashimi in my chiraishi don was fresh, but the sushi rice was hard and clumpy. I did not expect this kind of quality for a $38 item. Im glad I got it at half off, otherwise it would have been a complete rip-off. Perhaps I might come back for the omakase in future, but I can only review the rice bowls I tasted and they were way below expectations.

Went for the soft opening. Sushi quality was great and covered a variety of fish. Sushi size was very generous, felt very full at the end of the omakase. Tempura omakase looked excellent too and covered some really unique pieces of veg and protein. Ambiance was quiet when we went but the restaurant wasnt full at the time.

Exceptional. Truly the best sushi weve had in a long time. Elegant modern Japanese space. Great wine and sake list.

Worst sushi experience ever, Ive been to at least 100 authentic Japanese restaurant in the world. Regardless service level and food quality. Sashimi was not fresh at all, and the quality of sushi a various. This shouldnt cost $120 per person, I will spend $50 for this kind of quality and service

It was OK on the tempura side (BlogTO really pushed this as the next big thing..) was but not worth the money. I think they need to combine the menus and have a sushi/tempura omakase menu - too much fried stuff otherwise. Happy I went, happier someone else was paying - I d like to try the sushi side perhaps but not on my own dime. Staff were nice and very friendly, and it s a small spot so I get the price point since you won t have turnover - just join the menus.

The tempura omakase was too much fried food. Felt sick afterwards. I think the sushi side would have been better. One thing was a bit weird. The ladies and the men got served different things for the uni course. Not sure why.
