Food was so good! The rice was warm and the sashimi was very fresh:) the service was also perfect! I really recommend this place
The food is good here, but unfortunately the horrible service forces me to give 1 star. This is the worst service I’ve ever had at a restaurant in Toronto. They took 20 mins to bring menus to our table, 40 mins to bring water, and then around 1.5 hours to bring our sushi (4 rolls). Unfortunately they also got a roll completely wrong and took another 20 mins to deliver than one roll. We’ve currently been waiting 40 mins to get the bill and the servers refuse to make eye contact with anyone in the restaurant. We’ve already had to stand up to get their attention that the roll was wrong, it seems ridiculous to get up a second time. This restaurant does not have enough servers and is getting too many uber eats orders which is causing a lot of issues.
Food is always good! The rice is always warm and fresh. Everything we order is always put together with an artful touch. It’s been our go to Sushi restaurant in Toronto for years!
Just paid over $150 for three trays of sushi, smaller trays, and very disappointing. I paid extra on Uber Eats for quality, this tastes exactly like the cheapest option on Uber Eats. Definitely not worth it, and avoid the ones with avocado as it makes the entire roll super mushy and Soggy. Disappointing
Amazing find. Delicious authentic Japanese food! Udon broth was amazing. Tempura light and not greasy. Hot green tea and hot Sake were great too! The serving bowls, pots and cups were beautiful.
I came here to dine in for lunch on Thursday. I ordered the lunch combo that comes with 10 sashimi pieces and 5 nigiri, plus another combo that includes 6 pieces of dynamite sushi and 6 pieces of spider (i.e., soft shell crab) sushi. In total, the food cost over $40 after tax and tip. PROS: The server was attentive, the interior decor of the restaurant was very nice and the washroom was clean. CONS: Unfortunately, the food did not taste good. The dynamite sushi and the spider sushi both tasted the same, which is odd. None of the flavors really stood out, plus it did not taste very fresh. The sashimi and nigiri tasted average; I've had better ones from other restaurants. Also, it is worth noting that this restaurant is not authentically Japanese. I won't be coming back here due to the disappointing quality of the food.
Really wanted to love this place but left very disappointed. Ordered the lunch special and upon its arrival, we noticed each piece was coated and dripping in oil. Each bite was like an “oil gusher” which is not how I typically envision enjoying my sushi. The server never came back to check on us after dropping the food. For $60, it wasn’t just the oil leaving a bad taste in our mouths. Seriously disappointed in this place. There are much better (and affordable) sushi spots in the city.
We had a dinner here there is many table and good vibe as well. My bf crazy about raw fish and I don’t like that so usually hard to go sushi restaurant together but here they have a various of roll not only fish rolls. I really recommend this place who don’t like fish at all. However you can get fresh fish rolls too.
Food was excellent, but service was a little slow. Will definitely return!
Excellent noodles and service!
First of all, a highly recommended restaurant. Based on a recommendation from my roommate, 4 of my roommates and I visited. Wow, seriously the best sushi restaurant Ive been to in Toronto. It was like a Caribbean pirate ship. The servers were very friendly, and it was great to see the chefs cooking inside! It was a place well worth the money, and I really want to visit again. Ill come again next time!
Consistently great food every time I go there; however service is horrendous. They take at least 20 mins to take your order. If you want to try this place I strongly suggest ordering take out
Food is great, we had a really yummy sushi lunch that satisfied our craving for some good sashimi. the service was lovely.
The food has always been better than any other sushi restaurant in the area.
Food is not celiac safe, even if they offer gluten-free. I feel they did not take precaution as I found bits of tobiko on my rolls (which is normally not gluten-free). Was extremely sick after eating here, never again. Still giving 3 stars as the food was tasty. Update: Something in the rolls was not GF though, or the board/knife used to cut was maybe cross contaminated with gluten. My body would not react that way otherwise. I do appreciate the owner reaching out to me to clarify the tobiko is GF. Again, the food here was tasty and if I was not celiac I would definitely eat here again. This review is just a warning for other celiacs to take heed.
I didnt see such a restaurant that takes more than 30 minutes to prepare a food in toronto
Really love this place. So many unique choices on the menu. Service is so attentive and helpful.
Amazing! Best sushi in town!
We eat here regularly! Dont let the appearance fool you, its so fresh we cant eat anywhere else. The Chefs special roll is different every time but always worth the risk; the creativity and flavours are top knotch. The price is not cheap but you 100% get what you pay for.
Had an amazing experience. Service was great, food excellent. Plus current summer promo - Sapporo $4 a pint! Food : 5/5
Always a great experience at Yanagi since Covid times! Fresh and delicious sushi.
overrated reviews here. food was mediocre. I was sitting at the table right in front of bar, chefs kept talking/joking while making food without mask and one of chef is very loud spoken, cannot focus on conversation with my clients. I left 25% tip ONLY for waitress Food
Kid-friendliness: They brought out crayons and paper and plastic cup for our daughter without us saying a word. Food
Very tasty sushi, probably the best in Toronto today. One of the disadvantages of party trays is take-out only. Prices are above average.
Excellent experience. From the food quality ( top notch ) to the service. Highly recommend :) I will be coming to this place again
Wonderful Atmosphere and top notch sushi. We got the danforth boat and it was almost too much for us.
We ordered food for take out. My son and I were sick, nothing was fresh. The sushis had a chlorine taste and the salads were brown. I absolutely dont recommand thus place. And the people arent even nice.
I ve only been here once. Its a bit on the pricey side but genuinely excellent across the board. Highly recommend.
DONT wanna visit again. we could hear the owner(to be seemed) constantly yelling at waitress without a hygiene mask which was very distracting and unsettling. It was disheartening to see such treatment of staff, and completely not enjoyable dining experience with my kids. although food was fine, waitresses are attentive and freidnly. - I was witnessing you were LITERALLY yelling at them and two waitress are seemed pretty scared.
The food quality is okay but this place is very super overpriced. With tax and tips 1 piece of sushi is about 2.5 dollars. For the neighbourhood it s in it s definitely overpriced. Won t be going back.
Great place to bring the family, no complaints, consistency is a little off.
neighbourhood sushi Kid-friendliness: family friendly Food : 3/5 |
Ordered for the first time today - japchae, chicken karaage, Alaska and green dragons rolls, sashimi salad and sashimi. Everything was perfect and amazing quality. Maybe the best sushi I ve had in Toronto. 7 stars.
Friendly staff always. I wouldnt recommend dishes made with beef in it. But everything else is top notch and price to go with it is just perfect!
Yanagi sushi is high quality and delicious. It s my go-to sushi in the Danforth area.
Visited my once-favorite restaurant about a week ago. Everything was fine until the payment part. Our server unexpectedly insisted on a bigger tip, despite us tipping 10%. It was quite uncomfortable and honestly, pretty odd. It turned a good evening sour. I think Ill pass on going back there.
Our usual Thursday night dinner. Amazing sashimi and sushi.
Very tasty sushi, service was good, staff is very nice.
Delicious sushi at affordable prices!
Excellent foods and service! Additionally, presentation of the foods were very nice! Food
Kid-friendliness: Did a good job of trying to make the kids happy with ordering meals Food
Best sushi in Toronto. Absolutely amazing. The sushi is very fresh and tasty. Food
Ok let me start... Sushi was great. Sashimi was top notch. Prices were satisfying. Service was hasty. Waitress was beautiful. Surprise factor was huge. Highly recommended.
Very good sushi. Fast service.
Great quality of sushi and friendly staff
Really good sushi here. Its further east than I usually go but worth the trip. Its also pricier than other sushi places in the area but worth it. Good service too. Need reservations. Fills up fast.
Yanagi is my favorite sushi place. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are the perfect bite size. If youre looking to try something different I love their spicy banana rolls! Vegetarian options: There are plenty of veggie sushi options and salads Kid-friendliness: Lots of kids colouring up on the walls to the bathroom
Vegetarian options: Their food is really yummy, has a lot of variety too. I enjoyed them a lot and had so much fun with my friends
Got catering done for our film crew today and have to say, it was the best decision ever made! Great food with amazing taste and the quantity was just excellent! Got to feed the whole crew and still have some left for seconds!
Excellent all around. Although I like my saki a little drier. Check out the photo!
My wife and I love Yanagi for the varied menu and the careful way they prepare the sushi. I am the sushi lover, but my wife finds lots to love in the other dinners. The bento boxes are my favourite.
Went there on a whim, but man.... Im glad I did, the quality of the food and the awesome service is top notch. This little gem near Coxwell Station is a must. Cozy atmosphere. Definitely will be going back and recommending this restaurant to my peers, friends and family.
I love this place, I go here for lunch almost once per week. The staff is friendly the food is fresh the pricing is reasonable. Theres street parking right in front of the restaurant, and if you dont drive its within a short walk of the subway station.
Everything here was delicious! Portions are good too. Service was good and the servers were delightful. Definitely going to come again. I had the 15 pieces of sushi, some of which came with some nice garnishes that gave the sushi a bit of a twist. People I was with had the salmon teryaki Bento and bulgogi both of which are very nice portions and super yummy. Also tried the gyoza and squid leg appetizers. The squid legs were a bit chewy but the taste was good so I still enjoyed those.
Danforth boat for 50 dollars was very good.
The best sushi I have eaten in all of Toronto!
This sushi place has freshest fish on the Danforth. We usually get the sashimi Moriwase, tuna lover, rainbow dragon roll, beef gyoza, soft shell crab, seaweed salad, miso soup, tuna/salmon hand roll. They are consistently good and fresh every time. Not the best place for large groups because space limited, but perfect for a party of 4 or less. There is only one spot where they can fit a group larger than 4 (8 max), and that s right in front of the kitchen. When the food is ready, the kitchen seems to yell out that it s ready (no idea what they re saying) - really loudly. I personally think it s cool, but thought I d mention it in case quiet is your cup of tea. Their deep fried ice cream is good - it is unfortunately not always available. Went there with a party of 6 once for a birthday - it was nice that they gave us a few items on the house.
Lunch special tastes so good and has lot of portions, amazingly tasteful!
They are always so wonderful with my 4-year-old. Love the crayons they give children as well as that they have training chopsticks for them to use. Servers are always super helpful and kind.
This is one of the Best Authentic Japanese restaurants in GTA. Top Quality Japanese food and a very friendly service. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free soy sauce available Parking: GreenP across the restaurant
2 servers and the wait time was a bit long, sushi was delicious and authentic for real. Need a bigger place and more servers.
Great food and service!
I had a really good time with my friend to have a dinner a couple days ago that was first time to visit. The food was so fresh and delicious .I will definitely visit again.
Love this place. Food is so good and fresh!
Loved it!
Best chirashi I ve had in recent memory in the city. Fresh and great variety of fish. Rice is perfectly cooked and also nicely seasoned.
Good food, and great suggestions from the staff on the fresh sashimi of the day.
Great beef bulgogi dinner highly recommend and the vibe since I walked in was amazing! Great service also!
The best quality of sushi, photo attached is a large Sushi and Sashimi plater, fantastic !!!
Everything here is fresh, sashimi cut thick and the salmon is fatty, melt in your mouth tender. The fish to rice proportions for the sushi is a perfect amount being more fish heavy, along with wasabi already incorporated inside the sushi. Sashimi choices included salmon, tuna, snapper, butterfish, mackerel for that day. The maki rolled was filled with shrimp tempura, avocado and cucumber and topped with salmon and tobiko, an amazing flavour bomb in your mouth. Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts!
First time visiting this restaurant based on existing reviews. They make their salad well in advance of it being ordered. It came in a bowl and was ice cold - the salad and the bowl itself were ice-cold. Dressing was boring soy and vinegar, maybe a little citrus but no toasted sesame oil at all. It was bland. Sushi was bad. Maki had mushy fish and the rice was too moist and also mushy. There was no soy on the table so I had to ask for some. It too was also ice cold...thats a first. Service was non existant in the mostly empty restaurant. They did not come to check on us at all. I ordered green tea and was not offered a top up through the whole meal. At the end of the meal, we had put the chopsticks and chopstick wrapper on the plate to help with cleanup and the server literally tilted the plate and dumped them off the plate and onto the table in front if me and took the plates away...I have no words for this rudeness. A regrettable experience, I will not repeat.
Little bit of pricy , but the chef is has great skill worth to try.
Food is good, but the price is little bit on the higher side. The place is small and little bit cramped.
Good Vegetarian options: Good Dietary restrictions: Good
Amazing spot in East York for fresh, high-quality sushi! I got takeout and the attention to detail was great - they even called me to check if they could prepare it earlier than their standard 40 min prep time, and had a disposable drink tray in the takeout bag to ensure the soup didn t spill. 10/10! :)
Danny is a great chef that is very creative in his Sushi offerings!!
Great place to eat, they renovated recently and added a lot more seating!
Very cozy restaurant with a great selection and a good service. High quality meal for a reasonable price. We will be back!
Been coming to Yanagi for over 6 years and every time the sushi is amazing and the service is warm and welcoming! Would highly recommend! Kid-friendliness: Kid friendly and the staff are great!
Their Sushi s are great Yaki Udon and Short Ribs were great too
You cannot beat Yanagi for sushi in the east end. This is the best value and quality you will find in the area. I have made it my mission to try the competition and see who can beat it but they all come up short. Whether it s a weekday takeout lunch or a romantic dine-in dinner experience with your partner, the Yanagi experience will not disappoint. The speed of their service is top notch and the culinary skill is evident in every dish served. The difference is in the quality ingredients, presentation, and attention to detail. The sashimi is always fresh, the tempura is fried to perfection, and the beautiful servers will always greet you with a smile. Stop looking for the best sushi experience in Toronto - you ve already found it. Also, the owner Daniel is a devilishly handsome man who takes pride in his business and customers. He will always go the extra mile to ensure your order is treated with the upmost care that you would expect. Make tonight a Yanagi night.
my husband ordered sushi for my birthday dinner! Unfortunately, the evening was spoiled because there was hair in the rolls and also in the salad
Loved the place. The food was delicious, and very reasonably priced.
We ordered our food at 6:50pm. We didn t get our dishes until 8:10pm. They were very understaffed. The food wasn t very good either, and overpriced for what we received. The atmosphere was average but be prepared to be interrupted often by delivery drivers picking up their orders.
Not sure why people here rave so much about this place. 2023 UPDATE: Their service improved a lot and I had way better experience here. - - Service was horrendously slow and it took forever to get our orders even though the place was half empty. I did appreciate how courteous the staff members were; but that did not make up for the slow service. Sushi was decent but also slightly pricey.
Nov 20,2023, I had a late dinner in this place. The waitress was so rude
Delicious food, I recommend the Boat ( great variety), excellent service.
I love this restaurant. Everything is always very fresh and their service is always excellent. This is my favorite sushi restaurant in the neighborhood.
The bluefin is da bomb!
Excellent quality of sushi and Sashimi. Their boat is great. My wife and I love this sushi restaurant.
Our night was ruined by the waitress. I guess they dont know what it means to smile. Although I liked the sushi, unfortunately I dont think I will come here again due to the guest relationship beyond disgrace.Thank you for ruining our evening on November 29.It was also embarrassing that she questioned us at our table for not tipping for such poor service. Thats why I was so shocked when my 5-year-old child said bye and turned her head without saying anything. What kind of person could treat a 5-year-old child like that?
My favorite sushi restaurant
It was the greatest experience I ever had in Toronto!! The server was so nice and polite, and sushi couldnt be better than this. I think Ill be regular here. Thx for giving me a wonderful evening :) Food
I enjoyed a fantastic dinner at the restaurant on Monday. The food was superb, and I want to express my gratitude to the waiter for her exceptional hospitality.
This restaurant has one of the best sushi in Toronto. Starters are delicious. I love how everyone staff was so friendly. I really enjoy the vibe and food of yanagi. Woooo loved it. Will visit again.
Ill be returning for this high level of fresh salmon mango maki also Appreciate to the lady about thoughtful recommendation and has good communication through the long phone call even as closing time last week
When this place is at the top of its game, then it s really good. Sometimes I find them very busy and the quality takes a dip. But I always return and roll that dice because I like it so much. Definitely do the same and hope for the best.
This place us awesome .food is good service the best highly recommend
They create the best takoyaki I have ever tasted..loved their mushroom butteryaki..my daughters most favorite restaurant and I am planning to taste and eat every recipe in their menu
Great selection, delicious food, and nice customer service :) I think this has become our go-to sushi place
Our neighbourhood go to sushi spot (my spouse and I can be a bit picky when it comes to great sushi!) The chirashi is always good, generous portion and good value for money . They also have a good variety besides sushi
I ordered takeout from here. Im from Vancouver and I miss the tasty sushi from the West coast. This place was amazing. I loved the rolls and the fresh sashimi. It was delicious!!! Highly highly recommend it.
Possibly the best sushi on the Danforth. Fresh and delicious with extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff. Very highly recommend it!!!
solid sushi experience for this part of town.
Good quality sushi.. A little on the expensive side though.
Very good. Nice variety and good quality. I found a little pricey, but worth it.
Excellent value for the money. The sushi and sashimi is fresh. They do a high volume take out business. Staff are wonderful and the food was delicious. The miso black cod was so good!
My boyfriend took me to this charming place for my birthday. He has seafood allergies but the staff helped him order a delicious food that is safe for him. I got a surprise happy birthday song and a cake with a candle from the staff. I had a really great time and enjoyed really good food. Really nice experience. Excellent customer service.
veggie dragon roll!
Best sushi restaurant on the Danforth. They are always busy so it s always fresh!
Worth the price.
OMG Yanagi is my new Sushi Go to Place. It is a nice little gem right in the middle of the Danforth. Everything we ordered was FRESH and was delicious!!! If you like spicy food, the Kamikaze roll is a must try! Our other favs were the Golden Dragon Roll and the Chicken Karaage. Will 200% be coming back!
Delicious food, cozy environment and great service.
My favorite sushi restaurant in the neighborhood. You can taste the freshness and i like the variety of specialty rolls. If ordering on evenings Id call ahead of time as they can get pretty busy.
Expensive for average sushi. Disappointing
Fantastic service and great neighborhood sushi spot.
Yanagi Sushi is an inviting, temperature controlled, and clean place to dine, complete with a Sushi bar, appropriate lighting, and soft music that contributes to a fine dining experience. My waitress was Seulgi Lee (Chloe Lee, in English), who was very customer service oriented, introducing herself by name from the get go and returning to check in on my perception of the food etc. I ordered the Sashimi Lunch which, included 10 large pieces of high quality Sashimi, miso soup, salad, glass noodles, and rice for $18.00. The fish couldn t taste fresher, if it came directly from the ocean and the portions were excellent. I highly recommend Yanagi Sushi if you like Japanese food!
Had dinner here this evening after a long day of work, excellent food with top notch service, Gigi my server made the experience exceptional and I look forward to dining here again. Thank you.
This is a really nice restaurant. The food is awesome, just like in Japan.
One of the best Japanese restaurants in Toronto! Amazing food and wonderful staff! For all foodies out there, I believe this place offers some of the best value!
Absolutely unacceptable service. It took 10 minutes to be seated, another 10 minutes to even be asked what I wanted to order, another 30 minutes to be served my appetizer, and another 10 minutes to be served my entrées. The highlight of my experience was that it took half an hour just for the waitress to bring over tap water. I understand that businesses are experiencing staff shortages, but failure to adapt is not acceptable and there should not be only one server on a busy weekend night. I will not consider coming here again unless service is improved immediately and customers are no longer left feeling disgusted and disrespected.
The staff is amazing and the food as well!! Thank you and will come again!
Outstanding food, probably one of the best Japanese restaurants with amazing sushi and sashimi. Loved the ice cream too. Can t wait to be back!
Yummy and cheap!
great sushi and portions!!! reasonable prices and the fish was very tasty. service is friendly and prompt. it seems like a small space so may have to wait if it gets busy, but when i went on tuesday during dinner it was many seats available. seems popular for dates. i recommend yanagi sushi :)
Everything is perfect. Very good restaurant.
They offer very unique choices and tastes in sushi, that you would not usually find at other generic Japanese restaurants. Glad we decided to try this one out. Surely not our last visit.
Yanagi does such a great job! Their sushi is authentic and fresh, and the service is fantastic as well. I ve been going for years but recently visited with a baby and toddler, and they were welcomed with open arms. Thank you!
Very fresh seafood, good service. Have highly recommended to my friends
Tried several different rolls, and was impressed by all. Highly recommend the Spicy Banana roll! Definitely a weird concept but absolutely delicious. The space itself is a bit small, but the staff were friendly and the food will bring you back.
Good place to eat sushi. I recommend you to try hitachino ipa bear with a funny logo and glass. Food
Parking: Public parking across the street Food
A hidden germ from the big city
I watched as their team served with grace under fire, today. My own food arrived in perfect timing, well-presented, and with warmth and flavours as expected. Strongly recommend their eel dishes; Una donburi was my order today. Rice was perfectly sticky and of a gentle flavour. Eel was flavoured by its sauce, though itself was flavourful: hinting of a freshwater life. Very satisfying, strongly recommended, and will visit again.
Great food and service. My kids usually order rolls (spicy salmon and tuna are their favourite) and we are also fans of the sushi lunch and bento boxes. Super fresh and delicious! Price is reasonable.
This is the best Japanese restaurant Ive tried in the city by far! Everything is absolutely delicious and they have the friendliest staff imaginable! This restaurant is a favorite from all the residents in the neighborhood and for a very reasonable price. Dont miss out!
I ordered 12 pieces of sushi since this place received many rave reviews. The presentation was nice, but the fishes were tasteless.
Hard to believe its a Japanese restaurant... behavior is terrible
Amazing sushi and chicken Karaage was fantastic. Staff was super nice as well.
We had a lovely time, the sushi was super yummy! the miso soup was delicious and the chicken karaage, Jihyun, our waitress was very kind, we have nothing but complements for this restaurant.
Great service and excellent food. The fish is very fresh. I made a special request for my order, but because they were busy with take out orders and other dine-in customers, they forgot my request. Once I pointed it out to my server, she immediately went to the kitchen and got it solved right away. Amazing service.
Always quick and friendly service, plus the sushi is great.
Incredibly delicious and fresh. Great variety in the menu and will absolutely be back!
It s the highest quality sushi in the area. Some marginal quibbles but hard to go wrong here. Got take out a second time and there was no wasabi. The fish was very good but wasabi is one of my favourite parts of the meal. It feels like they sometimes forget the little details here. Very good quality but a little pricey for the portions. The carton of miso soup showed up more than half empty. I asked for extra wasabi and got extra picked ginger. The rolls are small. But the sushi was large and excellent. Two rolls and one order of sushi was $30 before delivery.
Awesome food, friendly staff!
extremely retarded for pickups, they are always delayed, be prepared to wait additional 20 minutes
Great. My sashimi included some Toro.
Highly recommend this place for sushi. Weve been coming here for over 5 years The service is very nice too
Good quality fish, mindfully prepared.
Great sashimi and sushi. My favorite sushi spot in Toronto
Highly recommend Yanagi! It is one of the best sushi restaurants on the east end, other places in the area do not compare in terms of how fresh and delicious the sushi and sashimi is. The service is great too! We always end up coming back here and having the best meals.
Best sushi in town
This is the best sushi in the east end. High quality everything. It takes a little longer with delivery services but everything is made fresh and the sushi is legit. I have been meaning to write his review for years.
Would love to give this place a 5 star because the sushi is great but we waited an hour and half because they put more time into delivery orders than their actual customers. The server didnt ask once how the food was and we had to flag her down for anything
best sushi in the area and very friendly staff!
Fish was very fresh, food was delicious, service was just a bit slow but understanding theres a shortage in the industry right now.
There was a hair in my sushi rolls and the server didn t even offer discount or anything rather she implied that I placed it there myself lol ok
Taste not bad, but not amazing either, and overpriced. If it was in North York, it wont be able to compete with other joints.
