Duke's Refresher St Lawrence in Toronto

Was very disappointed with this establishment. Organized a holiday work party here and my initial thoughts of the night was great until they unreasonably cut off the whole group. We were a group of 25-30 respectful medical professionals. NONE of us were drunk, rowdy or out of control. The bartender decided a few people from the group had ordered too many shots in a short period of time and cut them off which is fair, I can understand and respect that (even though no one was unruly and intoxicated). However, when another person from our group went to go get a drink from a different bartender, they took this as going behind their back assuming it was being delivered to these other individuals and cut off the entire group for the night. There was 30 of us. That decision was completely outrageous, extreme and unfounded. After speaking with the GM, she had to support her worker s decision so not much was done to rectify the situation. I would not recommend hosting your event here even if it seems like a great space to do so. Look for a different venue with better customer service and based on other reviews, this experience is not isolated. Save your group the disappointment and take your party elsewhere.

Had my work Christmas party here. Got cut off drinks before 11pm prematurely with no explanation (the whole party of 25+ people not just one or two people). Good atmosphere and okay food. Probably a one time visit. Overall not that good of an experience.

Re-writing this one based on an unfortunate experience yesterday. I ve been visiting Duke s for the past year or so, and have greatly enjoyed the staff, food/drinks and trivia each week. It s right near my office making for a nice break at the end of the day for a pint at the bar. I left a 4 star review indicating the spot is great, but one specific, newer server struggles with behaving professionally (and has had the same issue across numerous establishments now across the core - most recently being let go from a bar at Union Station for completely unacceptable behaviour). I used one of the nicknames she provided rather than her actual name. Yesterday I was finishing up a pint at the bar and noticed this server was a few feet away, clearly talking loudly to a colleague about me (appeared to be pointing out I left the negative albeit honest review about her behaviour). The colleague stood there staring at me slowly shaking their head while the server left, which just ended up being bizarre and awkward. A few minutes later I was approached by the manager Anthony, and explained the issue. He was unsurprised about the problems with the server (I m sure it s not the first complaint) and advised he d speak with general management about it, comping my beers as I was leaving, which was appreciated. He had also advised that the server asked me to leave. I said it was no problem as I had already settled up, but when I asked why he replied this review might have something to do with it and said I could return another night. Anthony handled the situation well, but I think it s regrettable your server, rather than going about their job better, passive-aggressively harasses guests and some other behaviours around sharing customer details with another establishment I won t mention here but have raised separately with Kathleen, the GM of Duke s. I ll update this review with new developments. Overall, it s a great spot that has only recently had issues with one new staff member. The rest are great and a few have acknowledged privately it s been a problem. However, if you get the server above I d recommend going to C est What next door or switch to the bar. Both are great and you ll save yourself the headache.

Love the basketball half-court, arcade pinball machines and the vibe. We got here on a December Friday night. Pub style restaurant with a paper menu. Wings & Nachos were awesome. Good place to meet after baseball for a brew or a hangout with a group of people. The crowd age is between mid 20s to mid 30s. We ordered wings and nachos; highly recommend the Korean sauce on wings. It was unique and delicious. Our server tonight was Leigh-Anne and she was attentive and polite. Highly recommend visiting with some pocket change to play the vintage arcade games or pinball. Super fun.

Can t comment on the food because we never got served. Waited at least 15 minutes and our party of 6 were not acknowledged. Two young ladies came in and the bartender was over to their table in 1 minute chatting it up for about 5 minutes.

An actual fun bar in Toronto!! Have lived in the area, it s the great spot for weekend trivia nights, fun Saturday playing game with with a group of friends. Staff and community is as welcoming and friendly as it gets. The food is hit or miss depending on what your order bit if you want drinks and French fries you can t go wrong.

Simply the coolest bar I mentioned in Toronto. Great service, very cold beer, good food and a completely different experience inside the bar.

The bouncers in this place are terrible :( they rejected our group despite having IDs & they put their hands on one of my friends without explaining why. Power trip?!

My partner and I frequent dukes quite often and love this spot. We decided to go in to Dukes for a Sunday afternoon drink with my partner. Bartender came to ask for our orders, after ordering a non alcoholic cocktail, bartender immediately shut me down referencing how they are the worst drinks to ever be made and to order quite literally anything else. After then stating I am sober, a coke was suggested (not an appropriate alternative to what I was ordering-juice) I ended up ordering my original choice, to which the bartender began to open many binders, not making our drinks (only customers in the restaurant), to which we ended up walking out after waiting 5 minutes for our drinks. Very unfortunate as we love this spot and will most likely not return due to the horrible customer service and attitude of the bartender.

Alan Mike and Athul were great. Very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu.

Not the most enthusiastic staff - took ages to get the first drinks (one was made incorrectly) and the waiter forgot to order the appetizer that we had ordered so a longer wait .was apparently going off shift and asked us to settle the bill and carried on serving other tables ..first time I have been in and probably the last unfortunately as the place has potential

Great bar, fun atmosphere. They do a fantastic trivia night every Tuesday. Just wish they had a few more keto friendly options on the menu / anything less deep fried.

Very good atmosphere for a little evening with friends

A friend of mine recommended this bar for its atmosphere as its not only a place to get together and have drinks, but also a place to play games like ping pong, basketball, and arcade games. While the whole experience here tonight was impeccable, the primary reason for this 5-star review was the service. We had a reservation for our team and when we first arrived, Ivan was very welcoming and friendly. Our waiter, Athul, continued this positive experience by checking in regularly, recognizing when we wanted something, accommodating two of our team members with their young children, recommending drinks based on our preferences, making adjustments to the bill when we decided to put it all under one tab, and taking photos of our group. We highly recommend this place if youre looking to get together with friends or colleagues where you can enjoy drinks and appys while indulging in an engaging atmosphere with outstanding service.

We stayed for a few hours, played some ping pong and had 2 lbs of the dry rub wings which were excellent

Great place to hangout with friends. Just normal food and drinks. But i would like to know about their tip policy. My friend got his beer at the bar. And bartender already charged tips and asked him to pay. I understand there is a fixed gratuity if it is a big group. But when customers get a drink at the bar, isn t it our decision to pay tips or not?? Nobody serve anything to get tips.

Pretty good time. The games were nice as well. Calamari wasn t overdone, but cooked to perfection and pizzas were good too. Truffle pizza in particular was most enjoyable!

this place isn t worth it. Service sucks. They also wouldn t let my friend in (30 years old) or a 50 year old guy behind him because they didn t have ID . Use some common sense. don t recommend unless you want to deal with lousy service

Great location, we were there for a small party and didnt stay long, but while we were there we had fun. Food was definitely on point. We had wings, sliders, Nashville Hot Sandwich, and a poutine... most of which was casually shared. Everything tasted amazing! We sat upstairs which was cool.

Mexican bowl is a lovely filling healthy option with a spark of spice. Pin ball machines and skee ball catalyze my trips.

We booked a spot for a 30th birthday party a month in advance. We confirmed number of people and payment prior to the booking and they confirmed everything as well. However, when we arrived and ordered drinks, they abruptly said their payment system was down and kicked us out without warning, while continuing to serve other guests. The manager Kathleen said We are not serving YOUR party anymore and brought up security to urge us to leave sooner even though we were peacefully chatting with eachother. We were being extremely respectful and polite with the area and staff. I believe the actions of the manager were racially motivated and I do NOT RECOMMEND for large groups.

The food is always amazing, and the staff are super friendly and attentive even when they re busy. My server last week (Sam) always gave service with a smile and was very accommodating of all our needs! If you sit at the bar the bartenders are also amazing and friendly. Dan and Noah will surely put a smile on your face and make you feel right at home. Trivia is on Tuesdays and the atmosphere is always buzzing with excitement as Michael Pez is a great host. All in all dukes is a great spot to go to alone, with friends, colleagues etc. and have a lovely & memorable time!

Cool bar but gross experience. My poor brother in law sucked up a huge glob of something slimy through his straw halfway through his drink. When we shined flashlights on the glass to see what it was the bottom quarter of the glass was covered in mold and there was the chunk he sucked up and spit back out. The service here was bad but it seems divey so that wasn t a big deal until he showed her the glass and she didn t give a shit. Offered to get him the same drink, sure, but seemed completely unphased and annoyed. Even dive bars should have SOME standards.

Great place to chill

Great place to grab a beer and some food. Pinball, games . Great pizza and some really rad wings. Beer was reasonable and we really enjoyed the atmosphere of the whole place. Staff was absolutely amazing. Friendly informative and chill.

I had a fantastic experience at Dukes Refresher! Carter and the entire bar staff were not only friendly but also provided excellent drink recommendations. Its always a pleasure coming here with my colleagues after work. The welcoming atmosphere and great service keep us coming back!

Kinda went downhill fast. Loved it the first few times but now it s not so good. Sad. Long wait for service. Pool cues so old they re unusable. Nacho s weren t very good. Gotta find a new place to go when visiting the market. POS system out of order for 2 weeks????

The food was good and atmosphere / service was great but the cleanliness of the place is terrible, I ve received a cocktail with a hair sticking to the glass and one of our spoons were very sticky as if it had a syrup substance on it. I got my food to go and it s clear they don t wear hairnets as another hair was found in the fries I packed to go. The menus were also very dirty shown with food stains of all sorts of colours . Great scenery / service but dirty supplies .

Awesome bar! The prices are cheap and theres loads of games to play such as tt, basketball, and several og ones.

One of my favorite places to go to have fun and have a beer with friends! I highly recommend it.

Worst service I have ever seen. The server refused to serve the drinks without a reason. Not sure if that was racism or something else but I would recommend other places nearby to not ruin your mood on Fridays and Saturdays.

Food was good. My sister and I got a trio of appetizers to share for our meal and it was the perfect amount. Service was quick. We didnt get a chance to play any of the games but they looked fun. Lots of finance bros if thats your thing lol

I was at the restaurant last Saturday, and after I paid, I realized that I got the wrong bill. I called and sent a message on Instagram but I havent received any response. Even though the service was good, they did not take responsibility for the mistake. I even sent a picture of my order and I still havent received any news. So, be careful if you go there and make sure to check your bill at least three times.

Not enough staff. Waited 20 mins for our server to come back to the table to get the check. Horrible service because they seemed under staffed. Pizza and beer was good. Food

I checked out the trivia on Tuesday and it was pretty good. After a change in host at my usual trivia place I thought I would give Dukes a try. The trivia is fun. The host definitely keeps the crowd, keeps it interesting. Also good, the staff. The staff, or at least the ones I saw, were pretty knowledgeable about what beers were on tap. And the food was okay. Not amazing, but nothing to complain about. The problem is the atmosphere. I havent felt unsafe in a local bar for a long while. This was the first place in the neighbourhood where I felt like I couldnt leave my bag or my drink unattended. I would definitely not come her for drinks at night.

went here with a big group and it was great :) food was delicious, and bartenders lisa & doyle were the SWEETEST!!! they were pretty busy with a couple of big parties but they were holding it down! drink menu is pretty diverse- lovedddd the tequila sunburn. would definitely swing by here next time i m in toronto- didn t even get the chance to check out the arcade! vibe was super cool throughout with lots of fun colors, games, and pretty lights.

Last night I and my partner went to Dukes for our date night. I want to give a shoutout to our amazing server Huzaifa for being an amazing host. He was very polite and attentive to us and helped us pick the appetizers and cocktails. It was a busy night but he stopped by several times to check on us and made our experience amazing. The food was great and the drinks were very economical and tasty.

Never been so disrespected in my life. The manager needs to take a hike.

This is my literal favourite bar. Just to hang out and play some table tennis, or do trivia night or just chill otherwise! Amazing vibe. Low key, relaxed, casual and fun. Also cheap eats and drinks!

Very cool place! Great atmosphere, food is ok typical pub food. But the service is horrible!!! Their servers clearly hate their jobs. My advise to them is find a new one, don t take it out on your customers. I tried to be friendly & nice & only got snapped at my staff. I tried to joke with one in an attempt to lighten the mood & was ask if I was going to order something or just make fun of him? Staffing changes desperately needed.

I broke a glass by accident. They said we had to leave after me buying 30 shots and spending $400. I asked the bar if I could pay for my damages and they said no.. you have to leave. Furthermore.. they took the shots that I actually paid for. This bar is ridiculously over rated

It was the worst experience. We took our own drinks from the bar individually and they included the tip. And then I went there for another drink and they tipped me for 6 people in the table. And their explanation was we wrote this drink to the table and you are 6 people. Dont go there, bad service.

It was the most horrendous bar experience we ve ever had. When we first got there, the server asked us to order drinks from the bar and so we did. One of our friends though got rejected and was instructed to go back to the table and wait for the server to take her order, in which she also did. A couple of minutes have passed and no server has come. We decided to ask a server and she said she s going to have our server come and get her drink order. She spoke with our server and from the looks of it, our server declined to do service. No the other server took the liberty to ask us of the drink order and assist us with it. But again, she came back and said that it was bar service. So my friends went to the bar and ordered. NOW!!!!!!!, the bartender charged our friend for gratuity since we are 6 people in the table. It doesn t make sense since we ordered individually. So now we tried to ask another server about it. He explained that tip is necessary so that the tips for the kitchen staff, bar backs and whoever else will not be from their pay. I don t know but it s ridiculous! Next, one of our friends was heading home first so the two guys that we were with decided to walk her out and take her to her uber. But when they tried to go back in, the security people did not allow them back in. Even though they were also the guys who let them out and saw that they were just there to bring their friend out. They still had drinks left by the way. It s hilarious and just down right stupid! Coercing for tips without serving. Amazing.

With such a cool atmosphere, idyllic location, and relatively reasonable prices, this spot has so much potential if only their staff had a brain. After seating ourselves and waiting several minutes for a server, we were eventually advised by a server who wasn t assigned to our section to order at the bar, which we did. Each member of our party of six left their seat and went to the bar to get our drinks separately. For the second round, the bartender advised us that a server would attend to us, but no one ever came. We went to the bar again, but this time we were greeted with heavy attitude. We proceeded to order, but this time were charged gratuity for what? I m still not sure. Closer to closing time, two of us gentlemen went to walk one of our friends outside to catch a cab, only to be locked out and denied re-entry while our drinks and the rest of our party were still inside. This was an embarrassing experience, to say the least.

AWFUL experience. One of my friends got charged (no ask) for gratuity for our entire table of 6 people. We didn t even have any sort of service the entire night, we each individually went to get our drinks to the bar. Later on, 2 of my guy friends walked my friend to her uber and they wouldn t let them back in. Didn t even open the door so I could talk to them. The staff clearly lacks of judgment and respect for customers.

Drinks tasted like gasoline! Servers and staff were rude and unwelcoming extremely different from the vibe they want to portray. The bartender charged me gratuity for 6 people because there were 6 of us sitting together. My question is, did they serve us at the table or did we go to the bar and ordered drinks INDIVIDUALLY?Another incident was when walked our friend out and waited for her uber and when we were about to go back in, the bouncers told us we can t. We still had drinks and friends who were still inside. We actually had a great time on our first time going there with Stu as our server. But this recent experience with this bar was terrible to say the least. Definitely not going back again.

We watched Champions League final here today. The atmosphere was great but service was poor and food okay. We ordered salad bowls with beef and got it with chicken! It was probably due to a busy time but the staff planning should be better for such busy times

One of my favourite bars in the city. It s spacious and has a lot of activities. Great for events, it can be loud but it s a bar after all. It s located in a great neigjbourhood and is an easy walk from union. I learned that there is a location in Muskoka as well and hope to check it out!

Great selection of beers on tap. Good food. Prompt service.

Unfortunately, the service of the manager or whatever entitled position she has eclipsed the great service from the waiter. When you are that jaded, it is time to change your job. Kitchen is always good, bar has very creative and tasty cocktails and its a relaxed atmosphere where you can have a great first date or hang out with friends.

Good vibes, service is ok, but Oklahoma sliders are an abomination lol, or a joke ($17 for 3 botched, basic, microscopic and gross burgers.. worst thing I ever ordered, easy).

This spot is a hidden gem in Toronto. Great spot to jus shoot some hoops and chill with friends.

As a fan of Nashville hot chicken, I was cautiously optimistic ordering their Nashville hot chicken fingers, but they were GREAT!!

When I was last there I wasnt able to find a decent tasting IPA. I hear they have a great burger but I havent tried it yet. However, the chicken fingers are the best Ive ever had. Comes with fantastic blue cheese dip as an option. Highly recommend.

Stopped by before a show and were really happy we did. Very cool place with a bunch of arcade games. The food was great, particularly the fried chicken sandwiches/tenders and they have a solid beer list. Service was friendly and did a great job taking care of everyone given it s a big busy place.

Low quality food, expensive prices

STEER CLEAR if you refuse to tip for subpar service. The establishment flaunts an appealing ambiance and has a great vibe, yet its service operates at a glacial pace, even on a typical weekday. Adding insult to injury, a particular server, a middle-aged white man sporting a beard, had the nerve to call us out for not leaving a tip. His demeanor was appalling, and none of us found it meritorious of a tip. The prevailing tipping culture has spiraled out of control. Enduring a 25-minute wait for fries and thereafter the bill during a weekday is preposterous. The sheer impertinence displayed is egregious. Its advisable to steer clear if you refuse to tip for subpar service.

Service was decent but in NO WAY should some chicken fingers, fries and one drink be almost 50 dollars.

Cool place with games and good drinks

Atmospheres great! Those arcade and tilt machines together with the sport activities made the place different and cool. We really liked the place. However, none of the food we ordered (group of 6) was delicious and fresh....! So, to sum up, service was good, atmosphere was very good, food was below average.

Huzaifa was our server and he was just fantastic. We walked in at 10 pm on a busy Saturday night as a group of 25 people. Huzaifa quickly arranged seating for us and patiently took orders from all of us and got us food and drinks timely. We stayed till last call and throughout he was amazing with his service. He was friendly,funny and very attentive to all of us. Will definitely visit soon.

We visited Dukes last week. Our server was Huzaifa and he was 10/10 in everything. We were a big group and we did not have a reservation. Huzaifa made our night wonderful with his amazing service and bright personality.

Ive tried wings at tons of places, and this place has the best wings hands down, even better than dedicated wing spots. Plus, the truffle fries are soooo good on the side. Some great beer options too and the entertainment available is a great touch!! Thank you guys!!! My new fave bar in Toronto.

The other night, my experience at Duke s reached new heights, all thanks to the bartender, Doyle. From the moment I stepped in, Doyles charisma and expertise shone brightly. Not only did he craft the best drinks with precision and flair, but his genuine warmth and attentiveness made the night memorable. His charm and wit added an extra layer of enjoyment to the evening, creating an atmosphere that was both lively and welcoming. If youre looking for an unforgettable night out, go see Doyle behind the bar at Duke s! (Chicken fingers are fire as well)

Natalie was Amazing!

First time at dukes the other night and thanks to carter we really enjoyed ourselves ! It was very busy so it was understandable that our server was occupied but carter was very attentive towards us, even recommending tasty drinks and the truffle sliders which were delicious. Will definitely be coming back and hopefully he will be able to serve us again ! Cheers!

Wonderful fun staff... great beer and food

The food is overpriced. We tried the chicken fingers and we got charged $40 for 8 pcs with fries. The portion is not big at all. For just two people I ended up hungry. The waitress did not advice us about spiciness of the chicken fingers. It was VERY spice for me. The Korean was not supposed to be spice like that. They also charged us extra for the ranch sauce without informing us. They included the tip on the bill without giving us the option to select the amount we want to pay. I never saw it. Be aware.

Where to start! I was celebrating my friend on Valentines Day because she deserved it. She told me we should come here, and so I went online to look at the menus. I immediately fell hard for this bar. The food, the drink, the pictures of the space, it all sounded amazing. We get there and its got great music, a happy crowd and tons of games! All of the servers were so attentive and kind. Special shoutout to Ivan (aka Santa). He came up to the table with the best smile and really friendly approach. Such a bright personality and great server. The food was even better than I thought, and at good prices. Tried peanut butter whiskey for the first time, was actually pretty good, I recommend the Grand Jam shot. All in all, it was a wonderful night out and worth every penny.

Ordered their chicken tenders and their Buffalo chicken poutine. Chicken was super tender. Their Buffalo sauce could be a bit better. Overall food was okay for the price But they have a bunch of games you can play in the back including a small basketball court, ping pong tables, and some arcade games. Fun to go watch a game with friends and do some extra activities on the side.

Absolutely terrible service. My friends and I were going to a reserved party taking place at this establishment. We had a bag of old drinks to dispose of as we entered. We were clear and upfront with the security. However, they took it as us being full of attitude and intoxicated which we were not. We were simply advocating for ourselves after being easily dismissed. The security card named Max or Mash had different reasons for not letting us in and was not consistent with his reasonings. This was clear misogyny and abuse of power. As we asked to speak to other security guards, they were open to let us in but due to the initial Max/Mash they were not allowed. We had also spoken to Kathleen, the manager, who has to support her workers and trusted their word despite initially agreeing with us on the phone. Again, this was very unprofessional, no communication and a clear abuse of power from the security guards.

Has its own vibe, nice place with a lot of arcades inside.

My server Doyle was the highlight of my night. He was attentive and funny.

A large, colourful, and fun bar. Games, a basketball court, etc. make it a fun spot for dates or groups. Great selection of beer and drinks. The chicken was very good. Juicy and delicious. Our bartender was friendly and attentive and looked like a sexy rock n roll Santa.

I m blown away by how attentive and kind the staff is. I had made reservations and not only did they follow up to confirm, they phoned another time to confirm which sports game my table wanted to have on.
