Banknote Bar Corktown in Toronto

Came to this restaurant a while back and never felt so humiliated like this. I was told that I had to pay for my bill prior to getting my meal. I was told that this was the restaurants policy but no one else at this restaurant was made to do this.

Cool, cozy atmosphere. Great food. Perfect if youre looking for a bar or sit down dining

You don t find these gems often. Great service, great food, REALLY GREAT food. pizza and nachos are unreal.

A hidden gem in Toronto! Every staff member is welcoming, friendly and knows their stuff. Happy hour, food and patio are all top notch, but don t sleep on the brunch - The menu is varied and reasonably priced, and the food itself is fantastic! Our favourite spot for causal food and drinks!

A little off the beaten path but worth it. Good size portions and prices. Best calamari Ive had in a long time. It can get pretty packed on a game night. Id come back.

Jess is the reason we are regulars. She is kind, knows our orders, and we love her. If anything, go for Jess. Also 4-7 is happy hour honey!!!! Half price wings AND tacos? Hell ya!

The nachos here are great. Well layered and stacked and the chips are more than regular Tostitos. Would come back for those!

Great service -- the nachos and calamari were very good and the jumbo shrimps were excellent (fresh and perfectly cooked). Great selection of beer and overall chill atmosphere, and surprisingly reasonably priced menu. The servers were super attentive and friendly.

Good vibes and great happy hour menu. My only negative is the service is slow at times, maybe due to being short staffed at times. Highly recommend it though still.

My fave local pub. I have hung out on their patio more times than I can count. Best chicken wings! Sometimes understaffed, the staff is hardworking and friendly.

I can t say enough how much Sam and Jess make the experience here, beyond five stars. As someone that ran Blowfish on King, and spent a lot of time in the Banknote across the street- I never thought service could be as it is in the east end. They re the only reason this pub is still (very much) alive, and why I frequent. Cheers to the kitchen as well, best shrimp in the city!!

Banknote Bar has a liar employee working there. I placed an order through door dash at 11pm and did a follow up call to see if the order was confirmed on their end. The guy I spoke to said no the order didnt come through and the kitchen just closed. After the call, I immediately checked my bank account and seen that I was charged for the order and the order did in fact go through on door dash and was assigned a driver. I tried calling back the restaurant just to let them know I was charged and were they sure the order didnt go through because door dash is showing something different. Nobody would answer the phone and I called 9 times lol. They deliberately were avoiding answering the phone because they knew they lied and cancelled the order. If the kitchen is in fact closed, I have no problem with that, but dont ignore phone calls on purpose especially when youre still open. They do not close until 12am and I was calling up until 11:26pm. Again, the issue is not about the kitchen being closed. I was simply calling to let them know I was still charged. Poor customer service and no integrity.

Great food and staff are very helpful

We had one waiter which was excellent and when 2nd shift came on, this waiter had a pin up his wazoo because he cut us off because my friend jokingly said with the reserved table said what if we dont want to move, jokingly she said and this waiter cut the whole table off after we spent over 300 dollars, nice going banknote, we would have made this our no 1 but I guess u dont need seniors. Like your patrons said. Sick!

The chicken parmesan was amazing. Huge portion and every bite was delectable. Servers were really friendly and so attentive. Really enjoyed it.

Danny is hands down the best server I ve ever had. He MADE our night. We went for my friend s birthday and he brought out a cake that had been cut in the shape of her first initial. Thank you so much Danny!

I will say the waitress/server was a very delightful individual and I am not faulting her in any way. But I ordered a burger and it arrived within ~5 mins (approximately). This was a bit of a red flag, since usually a burger doesnt take that little time to cook. I take a bite into it, it was reminiscent of the burgers that I had as a child at large school type BBQ outings. It was awesome for the 8 year old version of me, but if Im paying ~$20 for it not as much. My best guess is that the burger meat was pre-cooked and kept in the fridge, and the cook/chef re-heats them in the grill as they order. I managed 2 bites and that was about all I could bare. The fries were nothing to write home about , McDonalds type cut but they tasted a bit off but not very off. Lets just say the fries were ok with some room for improvement. All and all my 2 stars are completely provided due to the very friendly service that was provided and not for the food itself. I do hope this feedback is received as constructive and that the Banknote chooses to take this as an opportunity to improve their food. It looks like theyre doing good on hiring the right service staff.

Decent variety of beer and cider. Food was good (a little delayed when I think multiple people ordered pizzas at the same time). Friendly staff and outdoor patio available.

Fun place for a night out or a drink and bite after a night out in Distillery. Definitely cheaper than the prices youd pay to eat and drink in the crowded Distillery District, and just a short walk away.

I ve been trying to call daily but no answer even though it says they are open. If you guys have closed please adjust what it says online. I really hope you guys haven t closed.

We used to go here all the time before COVID and got in one more patio visit while they were briefly open for outdoor dining before the new lockdown. They are great. Good service, good food, reasonable prices. They have good specials which understandably arent available during COVID time. I will be so happy if they last through the pandemic. Its a great local spot with a good outdoor patio and indoor ambiance. Dishes weve ordered and enjoyed include fish and chips, salmon, nachos, burgers and the egg breakfast. Thanks for the visit. Hope we can dine there again soon.

Decent local bar in the neighbourhood. Went to the patio - was very happy that they allowed our dog. The nachos and pizza were really good. Not the best cocktails, but 5 stars for the food, friendly staff and dog-friendly patio & the $6 beer!

Great food here, I mean the best pub food youll find. Beer on tap is delicious if not craft. Servers work very hard and are, in my opinion, amazing. My favourite bar in the area and one of the best in Toronto.

The portions was pretty good and Aldainne; our server was really sweet and helpful! Unfortunately, some of the food like the guacamole in the nachos and the fries didn t taste very fresh. The outdoor sitting is pretty nice and overall, I and my friends enjoyed hopping in late on a Monday.

Banknote is a great bar, love their brunch menu. Also their home fries are amazing. Just those on their won is worth the visit. I was there this weekend on Sunday for brunch. I was having a large group together and called before hand. Banknote was more then accommodating they took my reservation for 30 and had no problem putting it together. Would recommend to anyone, this place is great.

Banknote Bar Corktown was a great experience! Service was excellent, atmosphere was a good vibe. We got some pizza while we were there and it tasted very fresh, and I appreciate the stone fired oven. Beer at Banknote is a bit pricey. They had some specials on a couple which was good. I think that overall this is a great stop for some good food and a good time!

I was shocked to see the waiter not wearing a mask and serving the clients without it and then him coming to my table without a mask made me uncomfortable. Also, the staff was quite rude about my tattoos with inappropriate questions and requested I pay upfront but I did not see anyone else requested to pay up front. The burger also wasn t anything special. Seemed like no name frozen burgers from the grocery store.

Great local place

A nice looking bar with a lot of TVs and good food. Actually, the menu offers much more than your regular pub fare, and you can even find pasta and pizza here. I had gnocchi that were OK, but I wouldnt order again, maybe try the tacos or fish n chips. They have a wide selection of beer, but the Guinness was relatively flat, and we tried a few pints hoping to improve over time. Now the actual reason for 3 stars has to do with the fact that we didnt feel comfortable complaining about any of this, because our waiter was a big, intimidating guy, that was seriously grumpy and was making odd facial expressions as we were placing our orders that made us think that the only way to make him happy would have been if we mailed him our money, and not bothered coming in at all. Still, its our local pub and we will be coming back no matter what :)

Friendly staff and some good deals

Great spot east of Yonge in an area that definitely needs more bars and restaurants. They have delicious food, and daily specials, plus the staff were great both times I ve been here. Plenty of tvs if you want to watch a game, but sometimes it can fill up quick on a game night. Looks like they have space for a patio in the summer, which I am eager to come back for once summer decides to start!

Best place to eat downtown Toronto.

The omelette I had was wonderful. The bartender was simply just a peach. Cant say anything about lunch or dinner, but their brunch was fantastic and I had a great time.

This is our go-to local pub. Not crowded and the service is always great!

I always go to this location with my colleagues but I guess this will be the last time. The waitress there today was very confrontational and unprofessional just because I did not give her a 15% tip. We came in the restaurant, she took our order and then serve it. I asked for a container after and thats it. After we paid saw the tip I gave her then went back to our table told me so rude that I did not give her proper tip. First of all I am the customer and the last thing I want to do as a customer is to be rude. So as a waitress that should be the last thing you should do too! If you have a concern like that you can ask me nicely. I do understand that they only make minimum wage but that is so unappropriate for her to confront me like that just because I did not give her enough tip. So is that what she is going to do or always does to all the customers that goes there and doesnt tip her correctly??? And if its by law they are entitled to that 15% tip I have no problem giving that to her. I can give her extra dollar or two if thats what she wants. She doesnt have to be rude and confrontational like that. Too bad there is no -5 star here!

Fascinating.... the place is beautiful, warm and with a classic touch that makes you fall in love.... the attention is spectacular (Spanish if you need it), they totally care about your opinion and are attentive to your satisfaction. The food is delicious, the breakfasts are spectacular and if you are more of a nocturnal person, the wings at night are ideal in this place. I would return again and again....they have that magical touch that you look for in all places. If I could give it 10 stars I probably would.
