Nov2024 Authentic Chinese food if you ever have a craving for it. This no frills eatery is a good place to have your bbq fix and the rice topped meals are also popular. Menu is extensive and covers most basic dishes. Service is simple and efficient with counter payments before you leave. Layout is basic but not comfortable for disabled esp the basement toitet with narrow stairs. Ideal for quick bites and small groups.

Generally pretty consistent. We live close by so we come here for our Chinese BBQ needs. It’s not the best we’ve ever had but it does the job every time. Would recommend!

One of the few remaining Chinese BBQ meat places in Chinatown. If you want authenticity, come here! The value is very good and the portion sizes are big. Service is quick and efficient.

Love the roast pork belly here! It’s always perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside. The flavors are incredible, and the portion sizes are generous.

A little authentic Chinese restaurant. This place is not new but one of the best in China town. All of the tables that they are full of Chinese people. This place is always full. The food is fabulous and the service is fast and good. There is takeout also or eat in. There is a washroom in the basement.

We had pork, duck and chicken on rice and they all tasted amazing. The soup of the day was chicken broth and it matched so well with the heavy meat. These dishes were so good that I was imagining that the woman who runs this restaurant must have cooked this for her family many times and may be doing this for her kids' future. This may be the best home-cooked-feel meal I've ever had. Do your math when they offer 10% off if paid by cash, it wasn't exactly 10% off. They did it really quick + no receipt so be prepared. Maybe a bit difficult to eat here if you don't speak Mandarin, though the service is bare minimum. I went with a Chinese friend so I can't comment precisely. The lady didn't seem to communicate very well in English when I attempted.

Visited this restaurant for Lunch. The prices of each items are reasonable, similar to the other Chinese restaurants near by. Both Beef Brisket and Wonton Noodle soup and Meat (BBQ Pork and Chicken) on rice were average, but the spring rolls are made upon ordering, giving a satisfying crunchy texture with flavorful fillings. Wouldn’t choose specifically this place to eat Chinese food, but it is a possible option if you’re looking for great spring rolls.

I can not recommend this place regarding all standards, we spent for couple 80$,we were excited by hearing a lot about excellent taste of legend roasted duck, we have ordered 2 different soups, pork&rice and 1/2 duck. Duck was served almost cold, top not crispy ( of course and taste not like should be). Soup was proposed after all dishes and was the same just different kind of dumplings 🥟 but it was not for our taste , we ate less than 20%(. Pork was not the best. And in the start of eating in the hall of restaurant came from the kitchen one of the chefs in very dirty , bloody and old apron that not added to us an appetite 😾. unfortunately it was my bad experience.

As someone who grew up on HKBBQ - this place is legit, no nonsense. Best in the options across Chinatown hands down. My parents and their siblings ate here when they immigrated to Canada from Hong Kong. Classic HKBBQ, exactly how it should be, plain and simple. Their Char Siu (bbq pork) and Siu Yuk (roast pork) are essential and good. We ve bought it in huge platters for parties and it s well loved. I do like their roast duck and soy chicken as well but I d say they aren t as good as the porks. I usually get these on a bowl of rice noodles with soup. Can t get any better than that. The prices are good. Cash/debit only - as it should be for HKBBQ. In fact, I love this place so much that we took our engagement photos here.

Perfectly roasted duck. An authentic Hong Kong Restaurant.

I have never seen such bad behavior. In fact, I have known that the master chef of his barbecue has gone to another store a long time ago, but I will patronize it because of the convenience of the location. The service attitude is almost the same. I ate at his restaurant today. I kept having diarrhea after eating, and it turned into dysentery! Still in the emergency room! Definitely avoid going to this place, for your own safety

SUPER DUPER GOOD WASHROOM PUSHING BACKROOMS BUT GOID

November 22, 2024

Lightning protection! Too long to read version: The food hygiene in this store is particularly bad. The food in this store has given me diarrhea twice in a row. I have read other negative reviews, but they are all innocuous. What I want to talk about now is the most important and fatal issue, which is food safety and hygiene. What I want to say is that the hygiene of this store is very, very poor. My experience is that buying chicken from this store twice in a row caused me diarrhea. The last time was a few months ago, when I bought plain-cut chicken and got diarrhea within an hour after taking it home. I was sure that the white-cut chicken in this store caused my diarrhea, because I only ate a few slices of whole-wheat bread besides the white-cut chicken during that time, and I ate that batch of whole-wheat bread at other times. No diarrhea after bread. It is for this reason that my impression of this store dropped sharply, causing me to not visit this store again in the next few months. But last Friday (November 1, 2024), when I passed by this store in Chinatown, I planned to go into this store to buy some cooked food for some unknown reason (later experience told me that I should not give this store any more at that time) store any opportunity). Coincidentally, this time I discovered one of the important reasons why the food in this store is unhygienic. I ordered a soy sauce chicken (the one in the picture receipt for $18), and I watched the male chef (the one responsible for cutting the roast pork) grab the soy sauce chicken with his bare hands, without any gloves. , then put the chicken on the chopping board, cut it, put it in a lunch box and packed it for me. At that time, I watched him grabbing cooked food with his bare hands without wearing gloves, and I began to doubt that I might have diarrhea again after eating this time (unfortunately, my guess turned out to be correct), but I also wanted to give this store A chance (probably because it has been several months since I last had diarrhea after eating food from this restaurant, as the saying goes the scar is healed and the pain is forgotten), so I comforted myself by saying that maybe his hands were washed and hygienic. But what I saw next shocked me even more. After he put the cut soy sauce chicken into the lunch box, I also completed the payment and was about to walk out of the store with the food. At this moment, I saw the male chef touching the rag on the countertop with his hand! ! ! If the rag is used to clean the countertop, then it must be very dirty. Taking a step back, even if the rag is not used to clean the countertop, but is specially used to wipe his hands, the wet rag is also very dirty. It is easy to breed various germs. Although I saw him touching the rag after he grabbed my cooked food with his bare hands, I can infer that this is his habit, so he must have touched the piece of dirt that was full of germs before he grabbed my cooked food with his bare hands. of rags. Because of his poor hygiene, the germs on that dirty rag were indirectly transferred to my cooked food, whether he did it unconsciously or he was deliberately trying to frame me. Even though I was very shocked when I saw this scene, the introverted me still pretended to be fine on the surface, and I was even more embarrassed to tell the store about it in person. I just took this soy sauce chicken home. Originally, I didnt want to reveal this on Google Maps, if my body didnt have any adverse reactions after eating this time. But unfortunately, I had diarrhea again after eating this time. This time I ordered a whole soy sauce chicken, which was divided into two boxes. I also divided it into two days. I didnt have half of what I ate that day, so I immediately put it in the freezer of the refrigerator for storage after I got home. It was also wrapped tightly in a bag to prevent the germs in the refrigerator from being transmitted to food. As for the half I ate that day, my body had no obvious reaction after eating it. The next day I took the other half of the soy sauce chicken out of the refrigerator, thawed it and heated it up thoroughly in the microwave. Because I knew it might be infected with germs from the rag, I heated it for longer than normal food in order to fully kill the germs that might be on the surface of the chicken. I thought this might prevent diarrhea caused by the chefs poor hygiene, but I was too naive... After eating half of the soy sauce chicken, I still had diarrhea in less than an hour. This time I am still sure that it was the soy sauce chicken from this store that caused my diarrhea, and not other foods I ate during that time (the reason was the same as last time). As for why the first half didnt give me diarrhea, the reason should be easy to understand. He didnt spread germs to that half as much as the other half with his hands. This also tells me that just because the first half of the chicken is fine doesn t mean that the second half is fine too. After this diarrhea, I couldnt bear it anymore. Although it was several months between the two episodes of diarrhea in this store, it was the two consecutive times I ate food from this store - the two consecutive times I ate food from this store. , all caused me diarrhea, which is very outrageous. Unable to bear it, I finally decided to expose this matter, so I spent a long time writing this review. I want more people to know how unhygienic this store is. This problem is more serious than other negative reviews so far. Serious and more essential. Of course, even if the male chef wears gloves in the future, I will not trust him anymore, because he is a person without basic hygiene awareness. It is entirely possible that he wears gloves all the time, causing germs and dust from other places to be indirectly transmitted to cooked food. - This is no different from wearing no gloves at all, and is even more deceptive to customers. In addition to this, I also noticed a small unhygienic issue. I noticed that when the lady boss (the woman in charge of collecting money) was serving soy sauce to me, she picked up an empty condiment box with her bare hands, filled it with soy sauce, and then put the condiment box directly into the lunch box. When she was collecting cash, she touched the dirty cash with her hand, and then directly touched the spice box with the hand that touched the cash. Then she let the spice box come into direct contact with the cooked food in the lunch box, which allowed the cash or other germs and dust to be present. Dirt was indirectly transmitted to cooked food. In fact, she can put the condiment box outside the food lunch box to avoid direct contact between the condiment box and the cooked food in the lunch box. Regardless of the man or the woman, their hygiene habits are very poor and they have no basic hygiene awareness in the catering industry. After noticing the above details this time, I finally understood the reason why I had diarrhea after eating the cooked food from this restaurant twice - this is not an accident, this is inevitable! Based on my 20 to 30 years of life experience, I can be 100% sure that the food in this store caused my diarrhea both times, not other foods I ate. Statement: I guarantee that all my statements above are true. I am just an ordinary Chinese international student. I am not maliciously smeared by any competitor in the catering industry. I have no interest in any restaurant, including this one. Dietary restrictions: No normal person would recommend eating the food from this restaurant

Really good Chinese BBQ meat and rice. I really did not expect this quality from this price. The meal even came with a soup and tea. Update: I ate here many subsequent times and this is the best cantonese food I have had outside of Hong Kong and its up there with many amazing places in hong kong. The owners are lovely people who just want to make good food at a good price to feed people. I think restaurants like this are what define Toronto. Small independent eateries with very authentic food. Its the complete opposite to the commercial restaurants on King Street and I mean this in a good way. The highest praise i can give this place is that it was where I ate my last meal before moving out of this city.

Consistent quality cheap Chinese BBQ. BBQ pork and roast pork is always good here but I ve had two instances where the duck was extremely gamey- it was clearly not properly cleaned and I couldn t eat it at all. However, the duck was fine again when I recently tried it, but just beware of this inconsistency.

I got my dish within a couple minutes of ordering, and the food was kinda cold. It tasted awful. I asked the lady to warm it up, and she puts it in the microwave. And it still tastes awful . I got the bbq duck on rice. Who knows how old it was, it tasted like it had gone bad. I would hard avoid. I asked for the bill, lady gave me the receipt and left without saying anything. 5 minutes lates I raise my hand to call her and she says to pay at the cashier...could have told me earlier

The noodles had no sauce on them at all, but the meat was good, so it wasnt bad in terms of the meal. But the staff is unfriendly. And now Im looking at the Google reviews and seeing that other peoples soups have meat and bones in them. We only had broth.

Ive been eating lunch here once a week for atleast the last 7-8 years. typical hole in the Spadina Chinatown wall. With the absolute best Chinese BBQ at the most reasonable price in the GTA. I ve been eating there so long, I ve seen the price raise three times yet it s still one of the most affordable good meals downtown. The nostalgia decor, wood paneling walls from the 60s, the dated tables n chairs along with the little old lcd TV screen playing Chinese tv shows to watch while you sit at almost communal tables (because the relatively small place is almost always full) along with the most simple affordable yet tastiest meal of BBQ and rice with some cabbage is the most soul and stomach warming experience one can have. I swear sometimes I m there and I feel like I m eating some bbq in some little restaurant in China. The simple watery yet most satisfying bone soup you get at lunch time with your meal is worth it alone and will warm your heart on the coldest winter day. Even my family loves it here. Im a customer for life. It literally is the highlight of my week and motivation to actually go into the office, to have my weekly lunch here.

I am deeply disappointed and compelled to share my recent experience with this restaurant due to a mishap not entirely within my control. Due to a glitch in the food delivery app, my order became significantly mixed up. While I understand that such incidents can be frustrating for both parties involved, the response from the restaurant was unexpectedly harsh and unprofessional. I received a call from the restaurant wherein the staff member spoke to me in a very rude manner and used inappropriate language. This behavior is unacceptable and reflects poorly on the restaurants approach to customer service and conflict resolution. I had hoped for a more understanding and cooperative response to the situation, especially considering the external factors at play. Unfortunately, this experience has left a lasting negative impression, and I feel compelled to advise potential customers to reconsider their choices. Customer service is paramount, and theres a basic level of respect and professionalism that must be upheld, even in challenging situations.

Always get BBQ pork. The rest of the BBQ items are average. Their BBQ pork pieces have a good portion of fat so it isn t chewy like the other bbq shops around this area. It also has a nice sweet aftertaste (from honey and ginger?). Highly recommend. It s one of the best in Toronto. Also they give you pork soup if you are early in dinner service - it is decent, not oily, but a bit over salted. Service is quick and transactional so many will assume it s rude. If you do get duck here, make sure to order half because if you order it with rice dishes it s random what pieces you get - sometimes mostly bone pieces, sometimes wing pieces, sometimes breast. Anyways duck is just okay here.

My review is solely based on ordering House Special BBQ Duck. At $27 for half a duck, its a bit on the pricey side, but Ive noticed that BBQ duck has gone up in price everywhere, from Chinatown to Markham. The duck came out juicy and tasty. The marinate was not overpowering and the duck was not dry. The flavour was just right. I even had leftovers which I took home to finish later that evening. The service was good. Im used to impatient waitresses who practically bark at you at Chinese restaurants but the waitress taking care of us was a middle-aged lady with good manners and a friendly demeanour. I made sure to leave a good tip for her service. I would not bring my date to this restaurant, just so were clear. Its a no-frills Chinese restaurant that had a renovation probably more than 20 years ago. The toilets downstairs are disgusting and dirty but thats not why I came here, so whatever. Its great for take-out or a quick bite when on the go. BOTTOM LINE: I am definitely coming back for BBQ duck in the future. It was well worth every dollar. Id probably get noodles as well next time to try.

I would have happily paid higher menu prices had they asked if I was dining in. For some strange reason they just assumed I wasn t. Hard to judge the food because it was all served cold. It s hard to comprehend such bad service when there s many other bbq options within a five minute walk.

Nothing mind-blowing but I certainly appreciate their large portions and quality BBQ meats. Its a very simple, no-frills place but you definitely get a filling, tasty meal at great value. There was only one server taking care of dine-in customers when we went for a Saturday lunch so it was a bit difficult to get her attention, but she was very nice and provided excellent service otherwise. Cash and debit only.

For decades this was my go to place for the best bbq pork or ribs , roast pork, duck but went there recently and was so disappointed. The bbq pork was saltier and the recipe had changed. The roast pork was so salty wasn t able to finish the dish. The duck seemed more like baked then roasted. The Cantonese chow mein was decent especially given the price but would have paid more for more toppings. The wonton soup tasted like pork only but was decent and good value. This was my go to place for takeout bbq pork but now I need to find a new place.

classic hk bbq spot! cash only! amazing soups and rice plates! bbq their meats to perfection! cash only! their duck is a bit dry but the soy chicken and pork are always super juicy and well seasoned. going earlier in the day/before closing is always a good idea. love that the interior is completely untouched from the 80s, lots of baby pink! great option for takeout/takeaway plus the service is super SUPER quick

Honestly for the price and taste, its such a good deal for yummy old school BBQ place. Its menu is smaller, and thats actually a great thing. Less menu items, more focus on good food. Id stick with the BBQ meats on the window with noodles and rice and you cant go wrong.

The signature large roast duck rice with meat, vegetables and soup is only 9.9 extra! Only tax and no tip! It means dine-in! You can pay by credit card or cash. Compared with those western restaurants that charge RMB 15-18 plus tax and at least 15% tip, you will know how cheap and good quality food is here. Very suitable for Cantonese taste. The roasted duck, roasted pork and barbecued pork are all very good. The only thing that I feel needs to be avoided is the white-cut chicken rice - the type of chicken should not be that good, and the meat is too loose.

should suggest the owner to change to non-foam type take away boxes which is healthier

It s a simple restaurant in the heart of the Chinatown; I had passed by it numerous times in the past and in June, 2023 I finally decided to give it a try. We had two portions of BBQ pork and roast port on rice (number 31), $9.99 each. It came with a soup and tea was also served. The portions were generous and tasty. The place was quite busy, with mostly Asian people, which is always a good sign. I would not mine going back there and trying something different. Parking: Try to take public transportation. There is street parking, but Ive seen many cars being ticketed and parking enforcement officials were very busy along the street.

Have returned. Highly recommended. For the 5 years Ive been in Toronto, this place has completed satisfied my cravings for BBQ Pork and Roast Pork etc. Cash and Debit. A legit family run establishment with fair prices and predictable quality. BBQ Pork - consistently juicy, sweet and sticky. Ask for slightly fattier parts. Lean parts are too lean. IYKYK. Roast Pork - consistently crisp and crunchy skin, always juicy. Dont microwave to reheat - use a toaster oven for that perfect crunch. Roast Duck - herbal and gamey. Their Goose is also super fatty and delicious when they have it in season. I havent tried their hot dishes - always gotten takeaway. Cash and Debit. Please give @trebzheng a follow for more :O

AMAZING!!! Hong Fatt BBQ is THE Go-To place for barbecue in Chinatown. The food is consistently delicious, reasonably priced / economical, and large servings. Service is friendly and quick especially if you order the bbq items. We usually get take away: - pork bbq - roast pork (make sure to let them know if you want the fatty or lean part) - seafood congee - preserved egg and pork congee - fried chicken wings (SO GOOD!) - Chinese broccoli... cuz #Healthy :D If you want an authentic, no frills, hole in the wall spot, then Hong Fatt BBQ is IT.

First and last time ordering and I did so via Uber. The Roast pork and BBQ duck y skin rice dish was ok for the price mostly rice. The wonton I tried a bit and almost puked. The meat was SOUR within the wonton and you can tell the meat was not fresh, but rather mushy or taken out at room temperature and brought back in and out or something was very off bad tasting.

We just ordered doordash from this place and was shocked to see how much meat they gave us. It is insane value for downtown Toronto. Highly recommend the roast duck and the soy sauce chicken. Based in Toronto (cause the GTA is a different ballpark for Chinese bbq) Hong Fatt is pretty great. Great value for some meat/veg/grain under $16. I wish I knew this sooner but they serve a lot of rice, if you re counting your macros you re better off sharing 1 rice dish and ordering another dish with only just meat (worth your value). This place is a no frills mom and pop shop. Service could be improved, but food is great. First timers, I d definitely try bbq pork and roasted pork. The duck and chicken is a bit more difficult to learn and eat. It s not the same as fine dining restaurants.

The food itself wasnt bad, the staff was terrible. The ladies working the front were rude, didnt want to listen and overcharged me. Price stated on their menu was $10. Even with subject to change I figured theyll tell me as I am ordering. My total told to me was $13 after tax/change? I ordered the large bbq pork + soya chicken on rice. Made 0 sense. On top of that, they didnt get my order ready untiL I HAD TO ASK MULTIPLE TIMES. People were yelling/shouting in chinese and their orders got ready before mine when I was clearly there before them. I really dont think ill be coming back because its just really disorganized, the food isnt that amazing for one and the fact that I dont appreciate being treated like a moron, patiently waited 20 minutes until I had to beg them to give me my food.
