This is my new favourite butcher and I have been telling everyone I know about them. Their meat comes from animals who live happy lives (grass fed, pasture raised, etc) and the employees can explain the source of everything in their shop. The employees are so incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely nice to talk to. Plus, this is some of the most reasonably priced meat Ive found in this city-- I swear, Ive spent more on meat at Loblaws and its obviously not the level of quality as the meat here. I truly cant praise them enough, and I wont get my meat from anywhere else.

I spend 20 dollars on small piece of salmon that I threw away.I bought a piece of fish on Saturday and cooked it on Sunday.it smelled not delicious at all. Bread that I got there was really nice and tasty,betterthan anything you can buy at any supermarket. Overall, I would go there to buy this delicious bread but have a huge doubts about other products.

Been a client for many years, but have noticed the quality of steak program has declined drastically in the last few months. Not sure if the supplier has changed, but the top sirloin is now tough.

Horrible tasteless food. Most items are like that. The turkey dinner was expensive, unnecessarily a lot. The food was Tasteless and Horrible ! So bad food!!!

Not one to post reviews but this place is a local gem. Deli wraps 10/10, hot bar items 10/10, banana bread 10/10. The butcher prices arent cheap but are fair for the quality, far superior to any grocery store quality at a slightly higher price.

Ive been reluctant to try this spot even though its close to home because I have a beloved butcher in a different neighborhood. I came and bought some ingredients for a pasta sauce - huge tin of tomatoes and (I thought) some cheesy sourdough. Unfortunately the receipt price was higher than the sticker for the tomatoes and the bread was placed in the wrong location on the shelf, so I just got plain sourdough for 6.50. The selection looks good for a boutique butcher shop but the in-store experience should be better at this price..

Ive had to go to a food bank a couple of times recently and I noticed that there were sizable donations of ground meat products that have the St Jamestown packaging labels. Wow, just wow. Cudos to this establishment. It really gives you faith in humanity. Thanks, from the many who really need help.

Ive only gone here for the sandwiches and wraps, and they are always tasty. Word of warning though: their mustards sting. I asked for honey mustard two different times, and I dont know if they confused it for Dijon or just have the most nose-burning honey mustard theres ever been, but if youre sensitive to that kind of thing, avoid it! Otherwise, everything is delicious.

Generally a reliable location for meats, frozen delicacies etc but lately I ve been on the receiving end of some attitude from one of the service team (presenting as younger female). Slightly condescending and curt. Don t need that in my shopping experiences so I will scope out alternatives on the Danforth. Expensive meat shouldn t be accompanied by negative energy

Regular customer (several times a week). Just had a very unfortunate experience. A couple came in and ordered lunch after me. When my food was called one of them went and grabbed it. I thought it was odd as I had ordered first. I then proceeded to be offered the wrong order not once but twice. I explained the order several times and offered my receipt. I was in there for close to 30 mins for something that usually takes 10. When I finally received what I ordered it was a sloppy mess and not anything like I usually receive. Falling apart, barely any chicken, sauce everywhere. I can appreciate that mistakes happen as my order had was given to wrong person but it was avoidable. I ordered to go and this other individual was for here. The receipts should be checked and confirmed. It also doesnt hurt to apologize for such an obvious mistake and inconvenience.

Went to St. James Town Steak and Chops for lunch today, where the special was chicken salad. It was delicious, the chef who prepared it is an amazing guy. Friendly, considerate and hard working. Im definitely going back.

Very good and very bad. Deserves 2.5 / 5 I shop there all the time for many decades, but am phasing them out. Their food is quite good, but 50%-80% markup is way too much for that level of price. 6.99 a pound for green beans is triple what it is on the roadside 7 dollar avocados have been seen here, $15 blueberries, 9 dollar bread loaves ---- $210+ for 5 good steaks means they made 100 dollars profit for storing a few pounds of meat for a few days. ---- They have been there for many decades,,.. its not like they have a mortgage to pay... they are just price gouging And the staff is VERY high turnover.... new faces all the time, and most arent very interested or bright.... indication of poor treatment/ pay. I have seen Several dozen different workers come and go. Must make them sick that a days pay would not even buy one meal there for their family ---- The in-house made sandwich shoppe is ok... good things can be had there... But the meat and grocery items are of great quality and poor value. If you bought a small quacamole, a regular sized salsa, a bag of nachos and a bunch of grapes, you would be at $40 I guess they just cater to the overpaid, and thats how the owner gets overpaid, and then he underpays his staff Come to think of it. They were often needlessly closed during COVID.. And they held a one customer in the store at a time limit.... Which was just awful if it was raining or cold... So there is a bunch of paranoia in there as well,.. again at the customers expense. People complain about farmers and ranchers not making enough money... no wonder... places like this make 20x what they do, just for storing it.

This place reminds me of Europe. The food is fresh tasty and delicious. Best banana bread with nuts. Best meat and roast meat. Best special burgers . Staff is professional.

Attention to Detail seems to lack here. This is now the third time I have ordered from the Deli side and they seem to always forget to put cheese on my wrap that I always order. I hate coming back to get them to remake my sandwich. What upsets me more is that I pay extra for it. Nothing like throwing you money away. - If they get it right, its an awesome sandwich. Also the other day my friend went into the shop to order lunch and the gentleman behind the counter said Hi to the lady who came in after him, called her out by her name, but my friend was told he had to leave because they where over capacity (even know he entered first), but the lady could stay. Not good.

Good selection of chicken, fish, beef and lamb prices are also good and comparable. Decent selection of sides, like fresh veggies and herbs. They also have a frozen food section with broths and other items- haven t tried those yet. Store is nice. Looking forward to trying the deli, ready-made section at some point!

Great local butcher. Top notch meats, and believe it or not, top notch produce and fruit. Lots of frozen stuff, and house made sauces. Everything I ve ever had has been great. They also offer hardy sandwiches and packaged hot meals. My fav is their jambalaya. Staff are all helpful and friendly too.

The quality of food is great but zero for the service. Waiting on the Deli side took almost 10 minutos for cashier finish her things then she ended and went away leaving me there looking to the wall not even asked me how can i help you (I was the only person standing there). Then came another employee to do his thing and after he ended I had to ask for what I want before he leaves pretending no one was there. He was little rude but at least I could ask for what I want and pay for it. Server at prep area she was very nice and kind. She was the one who did the all difference there. That was my experience at this store for the second time and it was not so different from the first time.

Expensive, but Ive always been happy with the quality of the meat. Deli makes bomb sandwiches. Service isnt always friendly, but Im rarely disappointed in the product. That said, avoid the pre-made burgers. Ive bought some fresh and frozen, and they all had a really unpleasant, grainy texture.

Geez, this place is fantastic! we were in Toronto for a week and purchased fresh meat and sides from here every day. The strip steaks rubbed in coffee (beans?) were our favorite. We cant say enough about the quality of the meat. We actually brought back two to the states. Sure wish we could get them mailed here! Definitely worth it. We will be eating our last two steaks this Labor Day. Looking for an excuse to drive 4oo some miles back to Toronto and this may be it.

I havent been back since I watched the owner or manager tell a man that he couldnt charge his (dead) electric wheelchair battery with the store outlet. I ended up having to push him across the street because he could barely move the chair on his own.

Berries are always significantly lighter than the amount listed on the label, despite costing more than nearby locations.

I could barely wait to finish my dinner to leave this review. Far and away the best meat Ive ever bought in Toronto and the only place Ill buy moving forward. The team is welcoming and very knowledgeable. The shop is immaculate. Could not be more impressed.

I always walked by here and never thought that they would have such good things!, I came In today & asked if they had berries because other grocery stores have bad quality & soggy fruit. They had such fresh berries, everything looked neat and the costumer service was great.

Here s my review of Saint Jamestown Steak and Chops. Seriously, I ve had BLTs all over the world: France Italy Spain America, nowhere does the BLT compare. This is a solid inch plus thick of bacon action between some of the best bread ever had. Now I was a convert on the spring mix substitution for the iceberg lettuce. Let me tell you I had three of these sandwiches today. I get it with pickles and mayonnaise and it s easily the best value BLT in the whole city of Toronto. Thank you St. James Town Steak and Chop. Thank you world.

I have been ordering groceries from Steak & Chops since the beginning of the pandemic and it has kept me sane and fed. Their marinated pork, chicken and roast beef packages are amazing. It feels good to know that the marinades are healthy and prepared on the spot and save me so much time. Shoutout to the rosemary mint lamb sausages with roasted potato for a juicy rich meal.

This is my new go-to butcher. Im so glad I went here. Great selection of grass-fed beefs and free range chicken (I havent looked at the rest yet), and all at very reasonable prices. They have a great selection of produce as well, and (happily) they also sell Potato Rolls for anyone looking to make and house excellent smash burgers! I will be doing my shopping hear from now on!

Bought jerk chicken thighs and Cajun chicken fillets. Both served with some tasty homemade sweet potatoes. The chicken was reasonable priced, but I preferred the jerk chicken (which was cheaper).

Walked in today and my husband was turned away because they said they were at capacity but then other people walked in immediately after and they werent turned away. I was then looked at by that customer disrespectfully as if I wasnt suppose to be in there. This was not handled professionally and I was made to feel as though I didnt belong in this establishment. Your tszatsiki is delicious but never again after that experience. IN RESPONSE TO YOUR RESPONSE: the point here was that while my husband was asked to wait outside because you were at capacity... a woman who your staff called by name was allowed to shop immediately after that. She was not turned away. Why didnt she wait like everyone else?! Dont explain, just be sincere.

Lovely space. I like the selections. Staff was friendly. I m from the neighbourhood but don t stop by often - so I dropped in on the Saturday. Guy behind the meat counter was helpful and pleasant. Unfortunately I had asked him for ground pork, selecting close to 2lbs boneless pork shoulder to grind. When I got home and checked it, I realized he never grounded my meat as I requested. That miss was disappointing cause I specifically needed my meat ground for a dish, there s no way around it. I ended up having to call a nearby relative to come over their house and have them grind my pork shoulder for me with their meat attachment of a kitchen aid machine. Maybe it was a miscommunication/misunderstanding. I don t think it s reflective of their shop cause for sure they re a great shop. I ll probably pop if I need stuff from a butcher shop. I just hate that this was my experience. Enough of a derailment of my cooking to take something off the stove so I can go get my meat grounded. Better luck next time.

I ve been shopping here for 3yrs almost every week. And never had an issue with them. I call today and whoever answered the phone was very unprofessional. I wouldn t recommend ordering online from them during this time. Their door says for assistance or any issues with ordering online to call. I did that, it was a waste of time.

I cant say enough good things about Jamestown Chophouse: the quality of the fresh produce, and customer service is 2nd to none. Honestly, great quality meats. No issues there. The lack of customer service we received was appalling. To be fair, I decided to go here at the last minute, after receiving an online order that I was very happy with. I spent over $200 on that order, and I wanted to check out the store - I cannot wear a mask and they made a big deal of it. The bigger deal was the way my husband and daughter were given a hard time after all 3 of us were told we could come in. I did not have a chance to address it at the store because I did not know my husband and daughter were no longer behind me - I thought they were checking out the rest of the store. It wasnt until we left that my husband told me. I guess customer service and common sense are dead nowadays. I was actually trying to give a new butcher a chance, as we always go to Gasparros on Bloor and have for years. So much for that. Really sad becuase I had high hopes for this place. But I guess only certain people are supposed to shop here. Never again. I still made a purchase because the lady serving me was so nice with all the other madness going on around me, she honestly made me forget how ridiculous the rest of them were being.

Awesome! Todays menu is to get stocked for the Xmas Holidays. Lamb chops, NY sirloin, prime rib, hot Italian sausages, boneless skinless chicken breasts and even fresh scallops. Been here a number of times over the years! Mark and family do it right!!

Customer service is spot on,on both sides of the store. it serves hot food and has a deli; they also sell some specialty jarred marinades and chips. Good sandwhichs- I had the chicken club wrap. It was big and hearty. The beet salad could have tasted more flavorful. I also bought a corn salad - it tasted good but the corn itself seemed old (not plump and a bit too chewy.) I do like their mini pickles. On the other side they sell great frozen PEI - grass fed meats and broths and organic vegetables. They have fresh sausages, shrimp, oxtail, beef, steak, chicken plain or marinated. The chicken wings are amazing. Huge!Bread as well. I do like this place. Id give a 4.5 but they dont have that option. :-)

I come here almost every Saturday for my lunch break (missed you guys Feb 18-24 though). The prices are moderate but you are getting great quality deli food for sure, I always get the vegetarian sandwich. You can tell that the deli is a part of the community as well with familiar faces walking through - Im not sure who the lady is on the weekends that serves me but she is also very kind to me. I just absolutely adore this local butcher shop. Great service and amazing quality produce and meats. Mark is so wonderful and always prompt to answer any questions. Ive even been able to find not just the run of the mill meats here, which is beyond fantastic (ie/ beef cheeks/goose/and the BEST lamb shanks you will ever find). Also - having a last name like Michelin is just killer! An awesome neighbourhood go-to and I was thrilled moving into this hood with such a wonderful spot within walking distance. Beyond A+ in all respects.

Its the spot to go food friendly local butchers and good food. The deli side has hot table specials daily, made in house. The butcher shop side is filled with great cuts if meat, in house made sausages, and fresh produce. Its a one stop shop for all your BBQ or cheese plate needs. Its been open since 1971 and is a Cabbagetown staple.

Excellent service and all very knowledgeable staff. Friendly and welcoming. They have everything you need for a normal weekday dinner, something special for a Sunday night or guests coming for dinner. Hot and cold food, drinks and a good selection of other grocery items. If there was a 6th star option they would get it from me!

As soon as I entered the store I was greeted and felt very welcome. The selection of meats is very good and the cuts are amazing. The staff was very helpful on helping me find exactly what I was looking for and the overall cleanliness of the place was beyond what I was expecting.

In the 1950s I lived in the neighbourhood, and today, was happy to see a fine butcher shop expanded into a fine and pleasant little restaurant as well. If youd like a sense of what Toronto was like a century ago, this stretch of Parliament Street is an ideal place to start or end the visit.

4.5 This review is for the deli counter as Ive never tried the butcher but have seen that they are a bit in the pricey side. Anyway the deli was outstanding. Their sandwiches are true works of art. Very generous portions especially when you consider that subway sandwiches are about the same price. They also have a lovely patio. Highly recommended.

Been going here for sausages and other meats for years. Just had a fundraising BBQ using their sausages and had compliment after compliment about how good they were. Fantastic staff, great local business!

This is a decent deli if your in cabbage town and want a corned beef on rye or something to that nature. Plus they have an attached butcher/grocery store. Prices arent great but the quality is there! Its worth giving them a try!!

Mark and the folks at St. James Town Steak and Chops have been my butchers for a decade. Theyre knowledgable, friendly and well stocked. Carrying a variety of free range, antibiotic free animal based proteins and (delicious) marinated/seasoned ready to cook meals. Theyve expanded over the years and now do online orders (with next day or later delivery) through their website. Highly recommend.

I went there for the first time after a trip to Riverdale Farm and I can say that the selections of sandwiches and groceries are amazing and natural. I ordered a Montreal Smoked Meat Sandwich with tea and ran my grocery errands there as well. I can say that the meats mostly are expensive but for a good reason. All are free of hormones and sourced to reasonable, humane plants. That is a good thing but thinking of capitalism makes me pretty sad... Overall, the potato was also good as it is a baked potato with cheese and their vegetables are amazing too! Will be buying there again should I come downtown to Riverdale Farm again! :) - Simon

Super nice people with delicious sandwiches, and their cafe has a great atmosphere. Clean, cozy, with fresh flowers everywhere. We love their grocery for freshly ground coffee and produce.

the grocery is a little pricey but id day it s worth it s mount, since just about everything is either local or organic. their deli i go just about whenever i can, and i go A LOT. good food, good people, if you can t catch the hot table specials don t worry they make sandwiches and they have ready-to-go prepackaged food right by the cashier. also their pastries and desserts yeah definitely worth going and checking out.

I just love this place! Good quality meat & produce as well, super clean, really nice and helpful staff and owner. I love that I can get everything I need here if I cant make it to a large grocery store for big shopping errands. And honestly I find much better quality produce here too. So glad this is in my neighborhood!

I love this place. I shop here a lot. Excellent quality meat & selection you wont find at a large chain grocery store. Friendly helpful staff. Mark makes sure everyone is helped quickly. Great selection of frozen food and other non-meat products. They have an attached cafe with a great selection of food Good luck with parking! But you will love this store. Its worth it even though a tich pricey.

St, James Town Steak and Chops butcher shop is by far the best you will find in the in the Toronto downtown core. Second to none. The owner Mark and the entire staff behind the counter are the butchers in the back are (always) so acomadating. I have been going there for 35 plus years and Never been disappointed once.

High quality meats sourced from good farms with high standards. Great staff, very helpful. But their skewers are very, very expensive. The housemaid rubs are very good.

I buy most of my meat and cheese here and find it of excellent quality, and reasonably priced. It is a great spot for lunch and coffee too.

Excellent quality and reasonable prices for what you get. Try the fresh East Coast Scallops, Mango Chilli Flattened Chicken, home made sausage, and PEI grass fed steaks. The staff is incredibly helpful. The Christmas tourtriere is outstanding.
