625 Church St, Toronto, ON M7A 1G6, Canada
Warm, spacious cafe offering brunch, sandwiches, salads, croissants & coffee for dine-in with outdoor patio and take-out.
Found this place from an internet search for an inexpensive breakfast. The restaurant is nice looking (not tired, as mentioned in another review). I found all the plexiglass complete with little speaker hole separating the staff from the customers unsettling but chalked it up to it being due to covid. Despite that, they brought out our meals to us. The breakfast plates were excellent. I had eggs, and my dining partners had eggs, benny, and blueberry pancakes. Recommend. Very affordable.
I’ve walked by here so many times and have never had the opportunity to go inside…until today. I was next door at an ACTRA council meeting and was told that I was on my own for nourishment for the day, so naturally I prioritized my caffeine consumption. Might be the lowest price oat latte I’ve had in a while. Can’t believe it was only $4.05. What a treat!
Very cute mom and pop style restaurant. Lots of food choices and the coffee was amazing.
A lovely and affordable neighbourhood cafe / breakfast and lunch spot with indoor or outdoor seating to sit and have a bite or grab takeout. I ordered the egg and cheese on a croissant, which came with delicious home fries and a drink (paid about ~$12). So simple and good we went back multiple times. Would recommend!
There were four of us that were staying across the street at the town and suites. We saw this restaurant and decided to give it a try. It absolutely did not disappoint! We went on a Saturday and Sunday morning. All of us had the bacon cheese on either a croissant or a bagel and it came with a side of potatoes and a juice or a coffee. The potatoes were nicely seasoned, and the croissant was absolutely delicious. The service was very fast and the prices were extremely reasonable. I would absolutely recommend!
Croissantree is a charming breakfast spot in Toronto with a cozy, small-town vibe. The food is freshly cooked and delicious. It's affordable compared to other breakfast places, with generous portions and combo options. The food can be a bit oily, though. If you're health-conscious, be aware that. The croissants are more bread-like and not very flaky. I found the almond croissant just okay, so I wouldn't recommend the pastries. Overall, a great place with nice vibes and freshly made food.
Florentine omelette with a large latte. Seriously well made and tasty. The latte was superb. Industrial/cafeteria style complete with glitter ball hanging from the ceiling. Television in one corner and fully accessible by the side door if you have a scooter, wheelchair or baby carriage. Place your order at the counter, pay and have a seat. Your meal will be brought to you. Note: Tipping is cash only and not available by debit/credit. Very much a go to eatery for an affordable meal.
Beautiful cozy little cafe, hot tasty coffee, and food is fantastic. The philly cheese steak was so delicious, really memorable and the best cheese steak ever. Friendly staff and comfortable spacious seats. Not crowded on a Sunday morning. Highly recommend it.
how can you call yourself croissant tree and make out-of-the-can croissants !
Good little mom-pop shop. Food was decently priced.
The croissants were not fresh.
Food was good, however when I asked for hot sauce I was given a nickel size serving of it which threw me off and on top of that they don t offer refills on coffee. 3 stars for the stingy-ness
Amazing price for good food. Honestly everyone should try. My favs are salmon bagel sandwich and chorizo omelette
Great coffee!!
Easily one of my favorite breakfast spots in the area. The prices are decent, food is good, and they serve really great coffee. Staff is very friendly and Im always happy to see them. If you have a friend staying at your place or need a good breakfast after a busy night, this is your place!
What a great little secret place to eat. Very low key but this place is perfect for brunch or lunch. Ive been here several times for take out and dine in. What i love about this place: huge variety of western diner style food, fast service, not crowded with free wifi and TV, they dont skimp out on take out orders, delicious and well priced. This is one of my favourite places to go and would continue to support this business.
Waffle was delicious and coffee was good! The building is such an old one, with a nice atmosphere.
Friendly service Spacious
Great place. For me best breakfast place in the city. Food
Online menu prices are 40% lower than the actual price. Portions are large and acceptable but my omelet was quite greasy. My spouse really enjoyed the blueberry pandcakes. I was charged for water.
The pancakes I had here this morning were excellent! Ready very quickly - delightfully fluffy and not at all dry. The staff made me a fresh decaf coffee which was also excellent. Fantastic value and great food. Very much recommend if in the area
The owners have been here for decades and are sweet wonderful people. The food is amazing and the selection and price is great too.
The food is good, location excellent. The attitude of the Asian gentleman at the cash taking orders was not nice. He would punch in the order and then came back twice to say our choice was finished , when the name tags clearly had the croissant we needed in the display. His tone when talking was rude as well, as if he was doing a favour to us and not getting business. This is not healthy for any food place.
Ive never left a bad review but this place is gross. The bathroom was disgusting, and when the waitress brought our food out a cockroach crawled out from under the plate. 0/5 do not recommend
The service is good, the food was godawful unfortunately, Frans is 10x better.
Its a ok place for breakfast. Nothing fancy, but good size plates for the price. Coffee is good. Croissant and bakery, just ok.
Delicious eggs Benedict! I loved the small salad with it! And the coffee was so fresh!
Very run down. Broken furniture.
The cashier guy is extremely rude and the customer service is so bad.
Wide range of food options and exactly right for a quick lunch
Its order at the counter, floors were not that clean. Wont repeat.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff and good food
Cheap cheerful and fast, comfort breakfast food
Good food at reasonable price, quality as well as quantity. Good atmosphere for couples, family and groups. Service is quick.
I came here for brunch. It was quite busy for a weekday. The food was decently priced, washroom was dirty. I feel there should have been more than one person managing entire restaurant by himself.
Very affordable, yet super tasty!
Excelente break fast and low price!
The food was ok not the best in the town, but edible. The man behind the counter was pretty attentive and ready to help with making a choice. However, the atmosphere was impacted by the area itself it didnt look like a cafe too spacious, too empty, too strange. Was it a bankrupt night club before? Food
Comfortable without flavor, service not at all warm, super atmosphere!!! The place being dead is even sad, nothing good to say
Reasonable coffee but limited food options. Better options nearby
Love it! Food is cheap and delicious.
Excellent food and location
I generally like going to this place for their breakfast options which are good. I generally get stuff with the egg options. However, today I tried their grilled vegetable and goat gourmet sandwich. There was nothing gourmet about it. The bread was over toasted and the grilled vegetables were a tad cold. But was disappointing is that the guy who takes the order behind the counter has no patience to answer. When I asked him what vegetables would be in the sandwich he wasn t happy giving me an answer and just pointed me towards the already grilled vegetable tray. I also love having coffee and wanted to know what beans was my cappuccino going to be made of. Like I d like to know what the origin of the beans are in the coffee that I m having. I asked the girl near the coffee counter (the girls serving here are really sweet) and she didn t know about the beans and she went to ask the man. The girl already asked him and he seemed to be reluctant to answer and when I walked up to him he said I m not going to tell you, it comes from a roaster. I thought it was really rude to have answered a regular customer in this manner. It s not like the beans were coming from a special coffee growing country that no one in the coffee industry has ever heard about and only his cafe is supplying. I think as a customer I have a right to knowledge about the ingredients going in my food. I ve always found his personality unwelcoming. But I ve only gone there because the breakfast is good. But no more! Wasted $12 for a hopeless sandwich and to top it had to experience such bad customer service from this man!
Food is ok. Not bad at all, reliable. The croissants are kind of disappointing.
Ate here for breakfast two times already, each time the food was very tasty. I ordered the Egg sandwich the first time and it was quite flavorful, the roasted potato halves are freaking delicious! You can get a basic cup of joe, but don t expect to be wowed . Second time I got the mushroom Benny and that was on point! Good flavor, good quantity (at least for me). Nice spot for bfast, will definitely come again when I visit Toronto. Cheers!
Not what youd expect from the name. Just a diner but with good croissants, albeit small
It was a good place we found to have a good breakfast, since we were staying nearby.
The hot food and sandwiches were not great. Not bad but not great. Did the job for the price.
We were looking for a breakfast option and this is a good bang for the buck. I got the breakfast egg and bacon on a bagel, it comes with potatoes and coffee, only for $11,95, its a great price for what you get. The place is not fancy but has a good atmosphere. Compared to other breakfast options in the region this one is the cheapest.
I thoroughly enjoyed both the appearance and flavor of the food. The Belgium waffle with ice creams was the best.
Their ice latte was pretty good. The Philly cheese steak was also good - would come back for it. Overall, it s a cozy little corner place and the staff are nice.
Croissant tree is a wonderful small local owned cafe, with great food and even better atmosphere. I cannot say enough about how kind the staff were to me, made me feel very welcome. I had the very tasty smoked turkey avocado melt sandwich for breakfast with a side of home fries. Will probably get regular fries or a salad next time because I guess the home fries were a bit too potato-ey for me haha. Love this place will definitely come back whenever I m in the area.
Came back after far too long, and the vibe here has definitely stood the test of time. Calm and chill place, food is fast and prepared fresh, and its a wonderfully quiet retreat from the insanity of Pride. I recommend everyone give this cozy little spot a try!
I just didnt get what I ordered (no big deal)... Stopped 1/2 hr before closing on Pride day Sunday, so yesterday, felt like having a dessert. Ordered 2 almond croissants. Got home - both had icing sugar on top, sliced almonds on top, good. But when I cut it in half, both had ham/cheese filling instead of the almond paste. Oops, so it was a salty-sweet snack... Maybe next time will be better :)
This place is very cozy, the breakfasts have very good flavor with a good quantity and excellent price.
Tasty food with a decent price. They even had gluten-free options! My meal was basic, but the potatoes were seasoned nicely, and it came quickly. Large restaurant inside, and a nice little patio outside. Across the street is a new condo development, be careful of flying dust, but interesting to watch. Food
Quick service. Have to ask for condiments my eggs were overcooked. Wheelchair accessibility: Ramp Food : 3/5 |
The food was amazing and the ambience was peaceful. Vegetarian options: Veg sandwiches available Food : 5/5 |
Pretty awful, place looks old and run down. Service was meh, food was not very good. The brie cheese they use tasted astringent. The only thing I enjoyed there was their fries, and even then they were all clumped and stuck together. Just shake the fryer basket.
Worst Cappuccino I had in years hot water with milk. No croissants at 9am but the toast and sandwiches were good
Surly service. Food that ranges from poor to mediocre. Greasy pallid potatoes without a hint of browning. Costco-tier croissants.
Croissant wasn t fresh and coffe was bitter
Delicious breakfast. Self service. Food was then brought to the table and was delicious
A little expensive for what you get. Nice spot to study and do work
Fast food and ordering at the front is nice. Good little patio and tasty food for the price
The place is spacious with many tables. The breakfast we ordered with coffee included was good. Recommended
Best croissants weve ever had! Stopped here for breakfast while in the area and the whole family was extremely happy! It was hard to decide which ones we liked best, both the savory breakfast sandwiches and the sweet desserts were all delicious and the service was excellent! Highly recommend the breakfast potatoes as well! Next time were in the area, were certainly going out of our way to come here again!
A cozy breakfast nook that serves reasonably priced breakfast food. I ordered the egg and cheese croissant. It came with seasoned potatoes and orange juice. It was delicious and a great start to my day.
I had a croissant here and they are over priced and wasn t really fresh. It was NOT flakey, or buttery. Coffee was over priced too and bland tasting. I will NOT be coming back. This place is just not the worth my time and the money.
I go there every Sunday early in the morning. It has been my routine for 2 months. Food is great, and atmosphere is also great. I m trying all kinds of menu and everything was awesome.
Amazing Bagels & overall really yummy brunch. A nice quiet restaurant in the corner of Charles St E & Church St in Toronto Downtown
Their buttermilk pancakes with maple syrup were just excellent
Lovely breakfast, not too expensive either. Plates were hot which is a good thing.
Fantastic omelette! Recently stayed in Toronto, woke up every morning, bypassed my free hotel breakfast to come here! Omelettes are fantastic, my wife s French toast was amazing! I will stay in the area of Toronto just so I can get the breakfast!
Good coffee and variety of teas, with matching snacks and pastries.
The staff here are really lovely and the chocolate croissants are delicious. I really like coming here for a casual brunch. It is cafeteria style - you order at the counter and sit at any open table where they will bring your food to you
I really like the open yet cozy feeling this spot has. Just north of Church & Wellesley but enough that its not busy with plenty of room. Staff arent much for chit chat or talking! But theyre polite & get right to work with quick service. Nice patio area outside during warmer weather. If you want an independent cafe thats not busy/crowded, here you go!
Rude staff, unwilling to help. I am definitely not going back. I would give zero star if there was this option.
Place is good and descent food. Food wise I felt too much of veggies been added
Interesting restaurants where they seem to prepare their baked goods an hour after they arrive to open the store so if youre looking for a croissant at 6:00 a.m. or frankly the croissant after 11:00 a.m. your Sol my friend this namesake restaurant seems to miss its point of actually preparing its namesake which I might add again are absolutely amazing if you can get your hands on one of them in a few hours they have them available each day so my favorite is the almond croissant however they do have such yummy onesies they can and cheddar broccoli and spinach and a few other options not to mention a full menu of breakfast lunch meals so check them out but make sure its an hour after they open so you can at least get the croissant
We loved everything about this Cafe! Food was delicious, with large portions. The coffee was fresh and the price was really decent overall. We brought home some fresh croissants and will definitely go back next time were in the city!
Our daily ritual was to have breakfast at The Croissant Tree. The coffee was very tasty and prepared with love, as was the food. From pancakes to scrambled eggs, bagels and of course croissants, everyone will find something to their liking here. The owner was very friendly and attentive. After our second visit, he already had an idea of how many packets of sugar he should bring to the table with us, for example. Any time!
Turkey avocado omelette was very good and I really liked the atmosphere.
Food seemed bland but healthy. Cutlery was clean and nice. There were few uncleared tables around which was little unsettling. Otherwise a decent place to grab lunch.
This spot it average, its nothing to brag about but nothing to complain about either
Possibly the best pancakes Ive ever had. Really good coffee too.
Have a delicious breakfast in Toronto here! Really good food, even came back because it is so tasty here.
It is always amazing to come here for breakfast or to grab just a coffee and a croissant. Food taste good and service is nice and friendly. The outdoor terrace is wonderful.
I got a take out for the Belgian waffles. Good value for money. The food was well packed, considering the waffles came with ice cream. The only thing is the wait time for take outs. Would definitely come back for the reasonable prices and breakfast menu!
Cute spot, good food, great prices, nice patio!
Reliable breakfast/brunch with good service and decent prices. Croissants are delicious but sell out quick.
We love to grab some croissant sandwiches on lazy mornings. They usually take about 10-15 to be ready, but theyre a nice light brunch option
I d give 1000 stars if I could! Wish they would open till later! They are life savers, decent snacks fair price! Croissants are tasty and service is friendly! Also try their other sandwiches you won t regret! Update: went there again, again it was superb! Fresh coffee and tasty eggs bennedict, made to order.
I tasted for breakfast and it was excellent
Consistently good food. My favourite brunch place.
Good atmosphere. Food is decent. Will come back with friends.
Understaffed. Too long wait for a sandwich and a bottle of water. Food is ok
Amazing pancakes and fair prices!
Poor coffee stale. Sandwich, BLT. Was basic, not exciting. $11.00 for sandwich and coffee. Will not return
Overall, lots of options for food, the coffee and drink options are limited, but the main downside for me is that the place seems a bit too open and gives off a cold atmosphere, which is not what I expected when the description read cozy brunch spot. Its more of a cafeteria-style luncheon where you order at a cash register and pick up when they call you and you reached the end of the line. Its better for a casual lunch then for brunch.
The best breakfast spot, no corners were cut and homestyle at a reasonable price.
Coffee was mediocre at best, having been brewed a long time earlier, but eggs Benedict were good.
Free coffee
I went inside the restaurant but there was hardly any customers and a very small selection of pastries. Unfortunately I didn t experience any food or service as I decided to go elsewhere.
The buttermilk pancakes and the egg croissant sandwich were good, but I didnt think much of the coffee or the omelettes. Wheelchair accessibility: Located on the first floor. Street parking
Croissant Tree is a great local spot with a big menu and lots of seating. I love going there for a working breakfast/lunch or for getting through a book on the weekend. It has a much wider menu than a traditional cafe, so you can just grab a bite or find something more substantial if you want more than a coffee and a muffin. I personally love the open faced avocado toast. You order at the register and theyll bring your order where you find a seat. Staff are friendly and professional. Very clean and has welcoming atmosphere. Would recommend!
There wasnt much to select from...
My summer spot for patio breakfast and brunch. This place has been my fav in downtown since I found it to be a peaceful one especially on weekends. My go to here is cheese omletter, veggie omelette. Croissant , cheese croissant and croissant with eggs and some nice coffee or sometimes hot chocolate!! They have a lot on their menu.
Loved the food and ambiancez But this guy has no patience in answering couple of questions.
Great place for a quiet lunch and just relax.
Extremely Dissappointed!! The owner bakes 6 to 10 croissants to avoid waste. I visited this location twice around 9am and was told by owner they were out of Chocolate Croissants(because he bakes very few). The quality of their croissants is very mediocre and the quantity also doesnt make justice to the name of the cafe Croissant Tree. Most likely will not return.
Ordered two Benedict dishes and came with no hollandaise sauce and it comes w regular toast. This is just a regular breakfast with poached eggs. The poached eggs are also soso. We ordered on their website and the owner was frustrated that we didnt know it was through Ritual. Thats none of our business.
I walked into the cafe asking if they had vegan options and it appalled me that the staff was so uneducated about the request. They served me avocado toast with mozzarella balls (and probably butter) - a very disappointing experience. How can you work in the food service business and be so unaware of the ethics behind animal products? Please do better - I was thoroughly displeased at my first dine experience since lockdown.
Very clean amazing food and good prices.
Wanted to share some stars for small businesses around Toronto. Definitely been a hard year for many places. Hope people would be kind and understanding. Ate at this little gem of a spot. Good price for the amount of food. 3 eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, home fries, coffee, toast for $14. Im not mad
Pretty good place to grab a bite. Definitely better priced than those cafeterias inside Uoft
Really great options, good amount of food.
Service took forever but the patio is one of the nicest in the village and food was incredible for the price
Really liked their coffee and shaded outside patio. Food came in great portions and tasted great. Lots of room for indoor and outdoor dining. Would come back again!
definitely will go back.
Pretty good food for decent prices
Too many varieties. The plates are big and delicious! Worth the money !
Basic breakfast/ brunch restaurant. They have standard options like omelette, sandwich, eggs benedict, ect. Love that everything is well packed and they strictly follows all the covid restrictions. Service is quick and sufficient. They also have 3 coffee beans for you to choose from rather than just 1 like many other places.
Delicious dishes served generously, in a down to earth manner
Sadly its now closed.
I was a bit disappointed. Thier croissant selection is lacking. The breakfast options were okY but very over priced.
Great place for a sabdwich or drink. The only downside is they do not open late into the evening
Avoid
The store is really great. The boss puts in a lot of effort and you have a great selection of breakfast options. Sandwich, pancakes, French toast and of course croissants and much more. We were here at our regular spot every morning. We can really recommend it and the price is great.
I adore this place! Staff is so nice and the coffee is amazing too, and trust me Im picky with my coffee
Staff not very welcoming, potato didn t taste that good.
Ugh!
Nice breakfast cafe, and very spacious. The pricing is reasonable and the food is tasty - but thoroughly average. I would definitely recommend a trip here if you are looking for breakfast nearby.
A hidden gem in the neighborhood. Great food with large portion and fair price, and the staff are friendly and efficient. Perfect for a weekend brunch.
Nice little spot for a quick bite to eat. Friendly and fast service with reasonable prices.
Good prices, the best pancakes in town and Home fries. I really recommend this place
Nice place to have simple breakfast. Coffee is not great compared to other coffee venue, but still okay to have it with croissants. They have a lot of options for you.
I was expecting a fabulous croissant but was disappointed. Not butter croissants, more of a sandwich one which was a bit dry. My double Americano was weak.
This used to be my favorite coffee/breakfast/lunch place. But its not the same like before. First, it really needs a renovation. At least a refresh if the renovation is too expensive, paint and deep, but very deep cleaning, including bathrooms and kitchen. It would give this amazing place a fresh energy for guests, but also for employees. New manu also. You can keep whatever you have good, but give at least two or three items brand new. For the place with this name, you expect a plenty of amazing croissants here with a lot of different flavors. The truth is, there are two types only and they are terrible. Dry most of the time and not tasty. This is really easy to fix, either by ordering good and fresh croissants from somewhere else or investing in a few classes of baking French croissants. You can do it. Maybe my review looks like a bad one, but in fact its really supportive. I like this place and I want it to stay here, but its not gonna stay for a long more if they dont take some action
Food was good , but the bathroom needs a redo
Severely disappointing my egg croissant was burnt and had eggshells in it. My girlfriends omelette was rubbery with avocado that was hard as a rock... I really wanted to like this place for how close it was to my condo and the cool name....
Greatest pancakes in Toronto!
Very delicious breakfast
Had their almond croissant. Overall while not the best almond croissant in toronto its about equal to the starbucks one and is good for the price ypu are paying. While the pastry was good, the almond filling was very lacking. I was kind of dissapointed that a restaurant with that name doesnt have more croissant options. Probably wouldnt go again unless i was passing by.
This place is becoming a bit dated - maybe this worked in 1990, but in 2020 the coffee is a bit bland, and the croissants are not much better than one youd buy at a generic supermarket..
The Colombian coffee is seriously good, quite a surprise to me. The breakfast in general is good, the portions are big for the money and they taste good as well.
Went there to grab breakfast and work on my laptop for a few hours. I liked the atmosphere, its cozy and quiet! The staff is very friendly
The pancakes disappointed even though presentation and customer service were both 5/5. I dont understand why the vast majority of restaurants serve tasteless pancakes made from some sort of a mix. Why cant they serve pancakes made from cottage cheese? Imagine pancakes made with cottage cheese, chia seeds, and hemp seeds, drizzled with maple syrup and plain yogurt on the side. Why cant restaurants serve such pancakes instead of these cardboard tasting ones?
Excellent breakfasts and excellent value for money
Decent fare at good prices. Owner is friendly. Great for a quick bite on a weekend.
Sandwich was good
Good place, good food. In my case, the people who served me were friendly and when you are close, it is a good option for a quick breakfast.
Good place for breakfast. Very varied menu, omelettes of all kinds, pastries etc... Good service too.
Cheap breakfast foods with a variety of choices on the menu. Portions are also quite large!
Great value, ample seating.
Large menu, good food.
