I visited George Restaurant in mid-September, and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. This was my second visit; the first was over 10+ years ago with a group of about eight people. Back then, the service left much to be desired, making such a poor impression that we hadn’t returned until now. We often dine at restaurants with tasting menus—Alo and Edulis are some of our favorites for both quality and service, though they can be hard to book or require a lot of effort. Recently, a friend mentioned that George was very easy to book, so I decided to give it another chance and reserved a birthday dinner for four Given the high price point, I had higher expectations for the service. Unfortunately, the experience fell short. Knowing that George typically serves shared plates to let guests sample more courses, I specifically requested that each of us receive the same dishes (no sharing). I confirmed this over the phone and was assured it wouldn’t be a problem. However, when we arrived, our main server commented, “No one does this,” but agreed to accommodate our request. Throughout the evening, several servers made similar remarks, which felt unwelcoming and unnecessary. If they didn’t want to fulfill this request, it would have been better to tell us upfront so we could make other arrangements. But if they agreed, they shouldn’t make us feel out of place for it. The biggest issue occurred at the start of our meal. A bug crawled out of my dish, and I discreetly asked the server who brought it to take it back. Our main server then approached with my plate on hand wanting to give it back to me, asking what the issue was. The live bug was still on my plate when I pointed it out, but the server dismissed it, saying, “It’s just a fruit fly, what is the problem with it, but we’ll change it if you really want.” This response was shocking and dismissive, especially in an upscale setting. I expected much better hygiene and professionalism, especially since we were dining indoors and not on the courtyard. Throughout the meal, servers continued to comment on our request for identical dishes, which became uncomfortable. At one point, they mistakenly served us different desserts. When I was about to point this out, our main server brushed it off with, “The kitchen was confused with your request. It’s just a dessert, so you can just share,” and walked away without giving us a chance to respond. By that point, I felt further discussion was pointless, especially as the dessert was underwhelming. The food itself was decent but didn’t stand out—there was none of the 'wow' factor we’ve experienced at other fine dining establishments. I’m not sure if our experience influenced our opinion, but we just didn’t find it to be exceptionally good, though to be fair, it was still good. Compared to other upscale restaurants, where service and presentation are exceptional, the servers here seemed undertrained. Often, one of us would receive a dish facing the wrong way—a small but telling detail. Overall, having visited twice now with many years in between, I don’t plan to return. I don't normally write review, but the experience was so bad that I had to write one. I suppose this is why George is much easier to book compared to other restaurants.

George Restaurant offers an extraordinary dining experience that’s truly unforgettable. The 10-course tasting menu was a culinary journey, each dish meticulously crafted and bursting with unique flavors. From the first bite to the last, everything was beautifully presented and highlighted the chef's creativity and expertise. The ambiance was elegant, and the service impeccable—attentive yet unintrusive. Every course brought a new surprise, and the pacing allowed us to savor each moment. It was a wonderful evening, perfect for a special occasion or just treating yourself to an exceptional meal! Highly recommend.

Nestled in a quiet, sophisticated setting, GEORGE Restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience that expertly fuses elegance with a sense of calm. Soft lighting and elegant décor create a sanctuary of relaxation, perfect for unwinding and savoring a remarkable culinary journey. We chose the seven-course tasting menu and each of us had different dishes for all courses. It is a perfectly paced progression that takes your taste buds on a thrilling journey. Each dish is carefully balanced, offering a mix of textures and flavors that reflect the chef’s deep connection to both tradition and innovation. Every dish was truly outstanding, except for the dessert, which fell short of our expectations. It felt more like something from a standard restaurant, lacking the creativity and refinement I would anticipate from a fine dining experience. I had hoped for a more unique and memorable finale to such an exquisite meal. The server is attentive yet unobtrusive, effortlessly guiding you through the experience without rushing or hovering. Each course is presented with care and detailed explanations, enhancing the appreciation of every dish. We were seated at 7:00 PM to begin our dinner, and by the time we finished at 11:00, it felt like we had experienced a perfectly paced, four-hour culinary journey. While it may come with a higher price tag, the exceptional quality of the service, food, and wine fully justifies the cost. Each aspect of the experience, from the meticulously crafted dishes to the attentive service, reflects a level of excellence that makes the premium feel well-earned.

As a wedding photographer, George Restaurant in Toronto is an absolute gem! The elegant and intimate atmosphere offers a stunning setting for capturing beautiful wedding moments. The decor is modern yet timeless, creating the perfect backdrop for both candid and posed shots. The staff is incredibly accommodating and attentive, ensuring that everything runs smoothly, which makes it easy for me to focus on capturing the day. The outdoor courtyard is especially breathtaking for photos, providing a serene and private space right in the heart of the city. Every event I’ve photographed here has been elevated by the venue’s charm and top-notch service. Highly recommend George Restaurant for couples looking for a sophisticated and unforgettable wedding venue!

Firstly, I want to express my gratitude for the consistently excellent food and service you provide! Although this isn’t our first visit, it is the first time we’re writing a review because your performance has been exceptional every time. Enzo, who served us during our recent visit, was particularly impressive. His attention to detail was outstanding, and he remembered my seafood allergy from a previous visit, which made me feel truly valued. The service was impeccable: cutlery was always replaced before each new course, water was refilled promptly, and the explanations for each dish were clear and helpful. The staff were all friendly, warm, and highly professional. I felt that a simple eye contact was enough for them to understand my needs. As for the food, it continually surprises us with its freshness and seasonal flavors. The combination of different tastes in each dish was both innovative and delightful. Everything was exceptional, and I have no critiques to offer. Thank you for making each visit a memorable experience!

As numerous others have already stated, this restaurant provides a top-tier culinary experience, a beautifully relaxing atmosphere, and fantastic service. We requested to sit outside in the courtyard and absolutely loved the quiet, secluded setting. For our meals we chose the 10 course tasting with wine pairing and each of us had different dishes for all courses. Only a few courses had the same wine pairing, so in addition to trying so many beautiful dishes, we also tried many lovely wines. Each wine pairing complimented the dishes, really bringing an already incredible experience to another level. If you like fine dining, this is truly an exceptional example. It is expensive, but the caliber of service, food, and wine warrants a premium price. The cocktails we had before our dinner were also amazing! We would come back even if only for cocktails.

We went there on a special occasion and the staff really took care of us. Such level of elegance and sophisticated atmosphere. The staff were top notch trained, knowledgeable and speedy. Very very pricey as we did the blind tasting menu but the experience was marvelous. Each dish had different elements and the chef had tremendous culinary skills.

We came here for our wedding anniversary and both ordered the blind tasting package (7 courses). The meals were prepared according to our dietary restrictions without us knowing in advance what we would eat. It was a very nice experience. First of all, the restaurant is located in the old downtown, and the location is very good. As soon as you walk in, you realize it’s a perfect business. The lighting and temperature are just right, and the staff is very professional and caring. Our waiter understood us very well from the very first interaction and managed the whole process professionally. His advice made our day much more enjoyable. Each plate was brought to our table by a different person and explained in detail. Each dish was delicious. Both the plate designs and the food were perfect. It’s definitely a place to visit. I am very glad for this beautiful experience.

Had their tasting menu and food was very mid, if not poor. Everything was on the sour side. Kind of surprised they are Michelin recommended. Way over priced for what it is. It is really just plating you are paying for. It is possible their regular menu may offer better dishes.

For $600+ I expected more. The sommelier did a great job with the wine pairings! However, I think we had new(er) servers because they werent able to tell us what each dish was. We had 14 unique dishes between the two of us and while they were good, none of them convinced me to give this place a second chance. Also to note for people with sensitive stomachs- most of the dishes were served cold or at room temperature and most of the first course fish dishes are raw. Every interaction felt very rehearsed and mechanical... unfortunately this felt like a good restaurant trying too hard to disguise itself as a fancier restaurant.

I planned a very expensive 40th birthday for my best friend, and group of about 28, and it was a complete mess. I worked with a woman via email and over the phone for two or more months. We organized a private room, custom menu, etc. She was slow to respond and answer questions, but I let it go. The night of the event came along. I traveled (pregnant) from Los Angeles to be there with all guests who had also traveled from NY. When I arrived, as the 4th guest to the event, 3 of the initial guests had been turned to the bar inside the restaurant to buy their drink instead of being served in the open bar, private room that we had reserved. I had a card on file. There was a huge table of beverages set up, but they were told they couldnt have any until the host (me) arrived and I approved it. From there it was a mess, nobody was able to serve themselves wine or cocktails on the table sitting in the corner, but there were only two servers running back and forth down a hallway to a kitchen. We were given a hard time over cocktails ordered that were not previously discussed because they werent prepared to make them. Finally, the straw that broke the camels back was that the birthday girls husband was served a half pour or less even of the end of a bottle of wine. We laughed, but the waitress never came back. Since we were sitting there waiting on the next course for so long (again, I am pregnant and sober), I got up and went looking for somebody to see if they would send around wine again. It was at that point that they told me there were guests in my party too intoxicated to be served, and they were being cut off. Mind you the waitress who instigated this seemed very young. We are all late 30s-50s with children at home. Nobody was intoxicated. So then it further escalates because the waitress then says people are passing around illegal drugs. Also not true. We all traveled there. One friend had a candy bar with mushrooms but it was purchased legally at a store in Toronto. I ended up spending 30 mins in the hallway talking to any employee there to see if we could have our wine poured and when the next course was coming out because at this point we were all getting antsy and ready to leave. This went on through the dinner course where everybody in our party found out what was happening, and people were being turned away from ordering a drink. The waitress was very dramatic standing in the hallway acting like she had been assaulted because we were so insulted. Everybody continued to treat her with respect, but it was also shocking she was the one they then sent in with the birthday cake to serve our friend. At this point it is 11pm, and we have asked for the check for 30+ mins only to get a slice of cake sent out where we reluctantly sing happy birthday. I emailed the woman at George who I had organized the event through that evening and told her it was horrific. I requested a follow up call. It took 3 days to get her on the phone. I spent about an hour recounting every detail. She assured me she would speak with the GM and follow up promptly. I am writing here today after almost 30 days because I never heard from anybody at the restaurant. I emailed multiple times over the past month, and finally received a response yesterday. The GM called me today while I was in the car with my 5 year old, and essentially told me he didnt know I was expecting a follow up, and there is nothing he could do because my group was out of control, on drugs etc. He essentially began arguing with me on speaker phone while I was driving with my son, and telling me this was my fault. I am still shocked and appalled. Not only can I not believe that a service establishment wouldn t offer something as an apology. Literally could have been just a sincere written letter, but rather call me - a pregnant women driving with my son the day before Thanksgiving and scold me on the phone and defend their very junior and inexperienced staff for railroading a 10k 40th birthday party. I am just in shock

I don t think I have ever written a bad review. Unfortunately this will be my first. I had my 40th birthday dinner with 20 friends at George over the weekend and our waitress was hands down the worst waitress I have ever had. I don t know if she was having some sort of mental breakdown but she literally ruined everyone s night. She was so disrespectful to the point that the manager had to step in and wait on our table. It was appalling on her part. Too bad my one and only 40th was ruined by an unprofessional girl. I was so upset I didn t even eat my dinner and ended up going back to my hotel room and had a burger so I am not even sure how the food was. The apps were good and thankful that the manager stepped in, but the poor manager was probably pulled from his busy workload. I hope the girl is fired so she doesn t ruin anyone s else s special night.

Recently visited George Restaurant for a private event, and the dinner service was excellent. The location can be a bit tricky to find, but it s worth the effort. I had the duck breast appetizer, which was well-cooked and tender. The beef striploin was decent, though nothing particularly stood out. Dessert was a highlight with a delicious chocolate mousse. Overall, I d recommend this place for corporate meals or special occasions.

My husband and I went for the 5 course tasting menu. We were drawn here based on the reviews and weve gone to quite a few different tasting menus in Toronto. Unfortunately, we found the food lacked any sort of flavour and was quite bland. Things tasted fresh but we were very disappointed. To have a course be a single piece of cheese and 2 crackers of a 5 course tasting menu was so disappointing. We left not impressed and not satisfied. If youre looking to spend this sort of money there are a ton of flavour filled, true tasting experiences youre better off going to. I dont recommend.

Horrible experience. We waited more than 40 minutes for the fifth course, and no one came around during the waiting time. We told the server that we are celebrating birthday when we arrived. The food not worth the long waiting time. When we asked for the bill, the server didn t even apologized at the first place, but was trying to argue with us that he has checked we have been seated for 2 hours till our fifth court, which is usually the waiting time should be... We still gave 12% tips at the end, but the food and the service definitely not worth the price and the waiting time. My birthday is ruined!!!

Had a fantastic experience last night doing the 10-course tasting menu and wine pairing. My husband has some problems with lactose and they were able to accommodate and still make him delicious dishes. I love that we both got different dishes for each course and were able to try such a huge variety of flavors. Every single course was fantastic. But some of the stand-outs were the octopus, potato wrapped hamachi, squab with foie gras, and sword fish agnolotti. But even as I write this, Im struggling to pick favorites since they were all so good. The wine pairing was delicious as well. I got to try a variety of wines that I had never heard of. Lastly, the service was excellent. Our waiter was so kind and made sure he got our food accommodations correct. Then as each dish was served, they would explain what all was on both mine and my husbands plates. The sommelier would talk us through each of the wines and tell us about the tasting notes and let us get pictures of our favorites for future reference. All around I would definitely recommend this restaurant. We really had a fantastic night there. Its going to be hard to top this experience for us.

My husband and I managed to get a last minute date night reservation on George s lovely courtyard terrace for a spur of the moment trip to Toronto. The food was absolutely extraordinary from the fragrant lightly spiced coconut lobster dish to the melt in your mouth wagyu beef and mushrooms, to the sumptuous rib eye and savoury mochi dumplings. My OH made the brilliant decision to order the bread selection (not something I usually do) - which meant we soaked up every drop of the delicious sauces from each dish. Pretty sure those dishes were clean before they went back to the kitchen! We could not fit in cheese or dessert but the sea salt brownies they gave us to take home were beautiful too. Wines and service were in equal parts fantastic. The pianist soloist made the night even more special. 10/10 for this fabulous restaurant.

DISCLOSURE: I do not frequent fine dining establishments. But I decided to come here for a change of pace. For a 160lb active man it was enough to make me comfortable after I ate a regular breakfast and lunch. THOUGHTS ON FOOD: Did the 7-course tasting menu which overall was really good. The Marsala tarte and goat cheese, the foie gras with squab, tuna fish wasabi with english peas were chefs kiss. But the remainder of the dishes were definitely far from mind blowing. For example, the main was an above average slice of lamb and/or pork tenderloin, but it was just that. There was also one dish that was incredibly memorable but for all the wrong reasons youd expect. Chicken with marinated cauliflower and parsley crepe or so the waitress said. The chicken was very dry--almost boiled tasting--such that itd fall short of KFC chicken 10 times out of 10. As a funny aside, when the server presented it, she said this is chicken, and left it at that. She was not wrong. THOUGHTS ON SETTING: The ambience was REALLY nice... candle-lit, dim, no overbearing music. Perfect for a dress up type of date night. Staff were knowledgable and kind, but seemed quite rushed when explaining each course. They did not rush you at the end to leave which was nice though. OVERALL: 7/10 on the scale of fine dining experiences Ive encountered. Do I regret going? Nah. Would I go again? Nah.

The food of this restaurant is really good, and they do care about garnish and flavour at the same time. So why I rate them 1 star? I swear if I could rate them negative,I would do that. The people who serve ypu ruin the efforts of chefs. For my case was the girl at the welcome desk, in the name of Aysha or Aysa or sth like that, blonde native Canadian, but unfortunately too rude to tollerate. She ruined my night with her disqualified behaviour. The way that she talked to me was absolutely far from a fine dining restaurant and Canadian culture. My question is that how sb with her manner should work as the welcome hostess of such a fine place to ruin it with her awful treatment? How did she get hired there? The management of this restaurant should fire her immediately, because she ruined the whole vibe of the night for me. Its a shame for your place and I wont come back, ever ever, despite ur fine food. If you want a great gastronomic experience, this is a place to go. The service was extremely good. Very high quality. The ambience was very nice too. The 5/7/10 course meals are blind the chef decides what you get & each person at your table will get a different dish than you for the same course. I dont want to give george low score, but there acidity in some dishes was too strong. I expect sweetness, saltiness, acidity in dishes to have a good balance. I dont want to see vinegar dominating the dish. The scallops had a very strong fishy taste. I recommend to use hokkaido scallops, they have clean taste and would work better for your cold poached scallop dish. Halibut was also fishy, not very fresh, I recommend washing it in water with baking soda, alkaline water will give your halibut a good cleanse. Overall food is average, they are a lot of elements on the plate and I can see the hard work that goes in all the prep and plating but everything comes together to deliver a flat experience. I paid $380 for dinner for 2 and dont think I will want to try it again. Oh I almost forgot, gelato is too icy, not creamy and smooth, maybe use more cream, or milk powder to reduce water content, or if you are aiming for authentic Italian gelato (in Canada no one really cares about your milk and cream ratio, you can sneak in an egg yolk also, trust me) run your geltato through pacojet. I wish you the best.

This restaurant was recommended by another chef at a different Michelin restaurant to try when visiting Toronto. It does not disappoint. Great price point, unique courses based on individuals preferences or restrictions. I loved the individual ingredients that also played as well as a cohesive course. Produce displayed was in peak season (tomatoes , cherries, peas, berries, etc.) I did the meat 10 course, but definitely would try the vegetarian option another time, considering how well the vegetables held up with the meat courses. Proteins were cooked PERFECTLY. The atmosphere is very quiet at opening, but even on a weekday grows to a vibrant feel. The sommelier picked fun wines that include local and international selections. Their ability to change, based on everyones unique course was impressive on its own. The cheese + 2 dessert courses were more than enough to end the 10 course experience. As someone who likes savory, I would have loved another grass-fed protein and one less dessert course. All in all, amazing experience. The staff were very conscious of course timing and very generous in their hospitality and candor. A fantastic restaurant, worthy of representing Torontos amazing food scene. Vegetarian options: They do a great job with their vegetables, even with meat protein options, the veggies with on display! Dietary restrictions: Dietary restrictions and preferences are asked at the beginning of the service to ensure you get the meal you need. Even though I did not ask for gluten free options, many of the courses were gluten free naturally.

Going in with almost zero expectations, I would be lying if I said I wasnt absolutely blown away by the tasting menu. My husband had the regular menu, while I opted for the vegetarian one. Finding a vegetarian tasting menu that doesnt rely solely on mushrooms to shine is a rarity. Each dish, both omnivore and vegetarian, was delightful, with bursts of flavor in every bite fresh and imaginative. The wine pairings were exquisite and unique, perfectly complementing the dishes. The service was impeccable. This was hands down one of the best meals either of us have ever eaten.

A must visit if celebrating something special and want to be taken care of with a very unique meal. The food is uniquely made for you with a blind tasting menu. This means you and your partner will have different meals! The food is superb, expertly made and what a selection of wines. Super attentive team with the most delicious bread Ive ever had. The focaccia is the best in Canada. The best part is that they accommodate allergies AND food preferences. They truly personalize the meal to you. The desserts are always out of this world so save room.

I get that nothing is for free anymore, but not even flat water? During a heat wave? During Summerlicioius, when you re advertising dinner at $75 pp? Not even when the customers are ordering an expensive bottle of wine? Don t get me wrong, the service was more then attentive and in fact, incredible, as was the meal, but being charged $3 each for a glass for water, at the end of the evening just felt cheap. The bread was also an added $5 which wasn t a huge surprise, but again, just be upfront about that please and thank you. We also felt slighted being sat at the very last back table of the restaurant when we were the first to arrive. It felt very strange to us. We joked that we must have had a bad smell or something. We enjoyed the meal immensely and we were happy to experience George at last as it s been on our radar for a very long time, but I wish it had started and ended on a more positive note.

Best meal I ever eaten in my life.

June 21, 2024

GEORGE restaurant in Toronto epitomizes embarrassingly pretentious dining. Despite its upscale facade, the experience falls painfully short in every possible way. At its price point, diners would expect fresh, premium ingredients that elevate each dish, but what is served is uninspired and lackluster. The flavors are another major disappointment. Each course is an ill-conceived jumble of elements that fail to harmonize. The dishes lack the balance and finesse one would anticipate, resulting in a dining experience that is more perplexing than pleasurable. Worst of all, the atmosphere is utterly ruined by the oppressive presence of management. Despite being seemingly overstaffed, with waitstaff bustling around, the management team hovers incessantly, casting glances and micromanaging staff. This overbearing scrutiny creates an incredibly tense and uncomfortable dining environment, where guests feel watched and judged rather than welcomed. Its hard to relax and enjoy a meal when management is constantly patrolling the dining area. It feels like watching an episode of a failing restaurant on Kitchen Nightmares, with Gordon Ramsay crying in the back. In a city brimming with exceptional dining options, many of which boast Michelin stars and offer better value, GEORGE s shortcomings are glaring. Ultimately, GEORGE s pretentious vibe, underwhelming food, and oppressive management make it a venue best avoided. With so many superior choices available in Toronto, there is no need to endure mediocrity cloaked in an air of unwarranted sophistication. Save your money and palate for a genuinely remarkable dining experience elsewhere.

Best meal I have had in quite a long time. Both my girlfriend and I had the five course tasting- every dish brought to the table was both unique and tasted absolutely amazing. The kitchen was also able to accomodate allergies with no heads up prior to our arrival. Our service was impeccable; and our server (his name escapes me) was both engaging and prompt. Every dish that was brought to the table was accompanied by a preamble that explained each dish in great detail and went over every ingredient. The entire experience lasted just over two hours and we left incredibly satisfied. I cannot recommend this place enough and will definitely be returning the next time I am in Toronto. Dietary restrictions: Able to accomodate allergies and dietary restrictions and create dishes on the fly that take into account the customers allergies/dietary restrictions.

Our experience at GEORGE Restaurant, where we rented the Georgian 2 private dining room for our Board of Directors Dinner in Toronto, was exceptional from start to finish. The booking process was smooth and efficient, with the staff demonstrating excellent communication and flexibility in accommodating our specific needs and preferences. I recently had dinner at George Restaurant and honestly, it was a huge letdown of an experience. The presentation of the food was top-notch, but the actual taste was average and didnt match up to how good it looked. Upon arrival, my partner and I were seated and excited to enjoy the set menu. I took out a small camera to capture some footage of our meal for personal memories. Shortly after, the manager approached and politely asked us not to use the camera, a request we were more than happy to comply with. I put the camera away, thinking that would be the end of it. To my surprise, the manager returned a second time, demanding that the camera be removed from the table entirely or he would confiscate it. Despite having already complied with his initial request and having put the camera away, we reluctantly moved it out of sight, feeling increasingly uncomfortable. The final straw was when the manager came back a third time, this time not to address any ongoing issue, but to insist that we visit their speakeasy bar if we wanted to take any footage. This unsolicited and repeated harassment was entirely uncalled for and disruptive to our dining experience. The crowd there seemed much older, which might not be everyones vibe. But the real issue was the food and the overall atmosphere. In short, George Restaurant is not worth the money. The food doesnt live up to the hype, and the uncomfortable environment just adds to the disappointment. Wouldnt recommend it. Attached the footage / recording that we got harassed for taking (LOL).

On our first visit here, my wife and I opted for the 7-course tasting menus with wine pairing. We love the concept and partake in it whenever it is offered. Food tasting is subjective, of course, but when paying upwards of $700 for 2 (we did), in the end, there should be no questioning whether or not you just had a great meal. At that price point, one expects perfection. If not that, then something very close. At Georges, the atmosphere is pleasant, the service is without reproach, the Sommelier is a consummate Professional, and the food is visually sophisticated. However, none of this matters if the food is not tasty. In our case, the all-important taste of those 14 dishes was no match for the former attributes. Starting with a harsh, unpleasant, and unfinished amuse-bouche, the evening ended with equally unpleasant and unfinished cheese and dessert courses. Nearly all the food was either bland, unseasoned, harsh, boring, or plain tasteless. Only the excellent two mains of beef and lamb saved the experience from being a complete failure. We are glad many diners enjoy this fixture of a restaurant, but our single experience here has been an unrewarding - and very expensive one, sorry to say.

My husband and I did the 7 course tasting with wine pairing. At maximum it deserves a 3 star. First off the sommelier could not describe any of the wines with more than mineral as her description of choice. Seven different wines and every single one of them is going to be mineral forward? I don t think so; sounds like someone doesn t know what they are talking about. We were seated next to one of the restaurants staff that was on a date and there was a clear disparity in service between us and them which was a bit unfortunate. Overall the food was decent. They really excelled with all the seafood courses but truly dropped the ball with the meat courses. They were truly a disappointment with a lack of flavour (aside from the fatty foie gras) and left us want for flavour, texture and salt. All in all, if you really want to try George go for the 5 course and pairing no more. We paid the same amount at George for the 7 course tasting and wine pairing as we did for Cinc Sentis which is a two star Michelin in Barcelona, so that shows the significant disparity in George as a restaurant. If you re still on the fence about this place then I recommend you forgo making a reservation here and head straight to Quetzal.

April 21, 2024

We were really excited to try this restaurant and I am sad to say it was a huge let down. We got sitted very quickly but it took good 10 mins for someone to acknowledge us. We ordered 7course with wine pairing. We noticed that most dishes were warmish-cold the worst part was our sommelier always arrived late so we had to wait while our food was getting colder. Lamb and bison dishes were so tough and cold.. it was not pleasant. I think our server came maybe 3 times to take our order, asked if we need more water, and came back with a bill through the whole 7 course meal. Last week, we visited Treadwell in Niagara on the Lake for their 5 course meal and pairing. Honestly, their service was exceptional, food was delicious & always HOT, and our sommelier explained all the details about the wine and food pairing before our food arrived. If we are going to pay over $800 meal for 2, we expect certain level of service. We had no problem paying similar amount at restaurants like Treadwell and Toqué but we couldn t help but wishing we should ve spend that money elsewhere. After last night s experience at George, we would never recommend/go back.

Much ado about George Restaurant. The hype around this place is huge and it s a name-dropper for the GTA crowd, but I thought it was just ok. Went here for a work meeting on a Thursday night with a large group, about 25 people. Front staff were friendly and greeted us well. The decor was Parisian hipster in our room but main entrance area is more modern. We had a prix-fix menu. The starter salad was totally forgettable, but it s just salad after all. The orecchiette / fancy pasta meal was pretty good but not outstanding. My beef tenderloin was undercooked unfortunately (very rare, had requested medium rare) but still good. The steak was accompanied by some fancy puree something that was better than the actual steak - unsure what it was but the flavours were amazing. This was what I was expecting for the whole meal, and it was pretty awesome. The dessert (pavlova) with fruit was actually the best part of the whole meal - impressive presentation and actually tasted great. Table service was not great, but it might have been just because there were presentations going on (although usually table service and wine service continues through these presentations). Wine was served only once and some people at our table commented on this. May have been due to prix fixe but other tables in our group were served multiple times. Meals were brought out with noticeable gap between members of the same table for the pasta and the main. Main portions (steak and salmon) were small and larger eaters will be going for second dinner afterward. Again, might have been due to a large group setting. Ultimately, if you go with expectations of a normal restaurant, you probably won t be disappointed (especially if someone else is paying). If you re expecting a chef s table Michelin star extravaganza, it might be a bit of a let down. Vegetarian options: Lots of options reported.

I recently dined at George, and my overall impression was a mix of intrigue and disappointment. While the food was undeniably good, it lacked the wow factor that would make it truly memorable. None of the courses blew me away, leaving me with a sense of unfulfilled anticipation. However, theres a particular aspect of Georges approach that I found both pretentious and frustrating. If you opt for their tasting menu, youre kept in the dark about what dishes youll receive. Worse yet, if youre dining with someone else, they might get an entirely different set of courses. As someone who appreciates the storytelling aspect of fine dining, this lack of transparency felt like a missed opportunity. In my opinion, part of the joy of an exquisite meal lies in the anticipation the buildup from reading a well-crafted menu description, imagining the flavours, and guessing what surprises await. By withholding the menu, George robs diners of this experience. Its akin to starting a novel without knowing the plot it leaves you wanting more context. We ended up going à la carte, but even then, the options felt like an afterthought. The second and third courses didnt differ significantly, which further underscored the need for a more thoughtful approach. While the chefs culinary skills are evident, I believe they should ground themselves and reconsider the concept. After all, when youre paying a premium price, you want more than just good food you want an immersive journey.

It was a unique dining experience and its well worth it for a special occasion dinner. Amazing food, beautiful presentation, and it was a filling meal. Menu standouts include the foie gras, tuna tartare, and scallop ceviche. Im still thinking about that foie gras -- such a rich and buttery flavour. Celebrating our choice of Georges was a culinary journey filled with elevated expectations, sparked by its prestigious Michelin recommendation and the allure of an exceptionally rare vegetarian tasting menu in the realm of fine dining. Our evening not only met but surpassed these heightened expectations, thanks to the ingenuity of Chef Lorenzo and his team, who treated us to a symphony of diverse tastes and flavors. Despite unintentionally injecting complexity into our dining experience a delayed arrival of over 45 minutes for our group, a playful game of musical chairs among our party of six to eight, and an eleventh-hour challenge with dietary preferences (a debate over fois gras) our server, Chris, handled each twist with unwavering grace. His professionalism and attentive service were pivotal in ensuring an easygoing and thoroughly enjoyable evening, for which we extend our heartfelt thanks. Georges showcased exceptional flexibility, seamlessly addressing a spectrum of dietary needs, from allergies such as my own (pecans, walnuts, and shellfish) to accommodating those who prefer to abstain from beef. In a city teeming with outstanding tasting menus, Georges stands out not only for its culinary brilliance but also for its steadfast commitment to accommodating guests facing diverse obstacles be it dietary restrictions, religious considerations, or unforeseen changes. The venue itself exudes tasteful design tailored for larger groups. While not conventionally cozy, it manages to uphold an air of intimacy. For those seeking an unparalleled dining experience with a large and intricate group, Georges emerges as a singular gem in the city, capable of exceeding expectations without relying on the commonplace appeal of pasta to satisfy vegetarians Vegetarian options: Best in the city

The service and atmosphere were excellent and wine list extensive with some good value choices. We had the 5 course tasting menu but unfortunately there were a lot of things that didn t work. First was quantity too much especially as the quality wasn t there. No one finished the dessert and others also left some of the cheese as we struggled to down an assembly of crudo and then two heavy meat dishes. The quality issue is the main problem and reflects an overexuberance to experiment with otherwise perfectly good ingredients and often swamped in non descript alienating sauces, including mayonnaise. The lobster starter for example on a bed of quinoa would have been fine before a variety of seaweed, cucumber, vinaigrette and mayonnaise was all thrown in leaving flavours totally confused and a messy palate. Bison cheek would have been lovely on its own in the wine reduction as would the pan fried foie gras but combined they were a tangled mess again. And that was the best dish. The price is reasonable but I would much rather pay 50 percent for a memorable meal than that price for a forgettable one.

When I realized that, I tried to explain it nicely and she gave me an attitude and said to give me back 5 dollars which is clearly not enough to cover tax plus tips. I dont actually care about a few dollars but this is certainly not the correct way to do things. I paid 500+ for a meal but it took you guys one hour each course and playing tricks with customers? We ve dined here two to three times per year for the past 6 years. Anniversaries, birthday, or just cause. The service is impeccable, and the food is intoxicating. Go here, highly recommend. My review above is based on all my previous visits, and not my 11 year anniversary celebratory dinner last weekend with my wife. No, my recent experience was a 5 star for the food, but the overall service was lacking. The guys that clean up the tables in between courses as usual always friendly, recognized us from past dinners. The hostess was lack lustre. She didn t offer coat check and let us beginning walking to our table with our wet jackets, fortunately we know there s coat check and had to initiate to ask for it. It seemed like a neither here nor there for them. No pleasantries, no real welcoming vibe. But the other disappointment was our waiter, overall he was nice, however he wasn t invested or checked in to us. He never introduced his name and he offered no conversation, didn t ask us if we were celebrating an event, didn t pour the wine to taste, before filling the glass. And in the end no wishes or on the final dessert plate saying happy anniversary. We did indicate when booking the reservation online that it was our anniversary, and in past these celebrations were acknowledged by the Restaurant. Seeing the disappointment on my wifes face after paying the bill, I imposed on the waiter saying it was our anniversary. He mentioned he had something and went to the kitchen and hustled up a small plate that could barely fit the words in chocolate. It felt like a last minute gesture. Perhaps he was having a bad day, however this is not the service we have come to know and expect from this restaurant. I loved this restaurant because the food is divine but also because the service was superior and that combined made the George experience. Not this past weekend though, George was out of office. In all the years this is our first deflated experience, hopefully next time it will be back to what it s always been, top notch.

New to the tasting experience. Went for the 7 course dinner @ $155+tax+gratuity Service: 100%. Quality: 100%. Variety:100%. Artistic: 100%. Value: Over priced and felt like they nickel and dime. Charged $3 per person for water. Charged $5 bread. At these prices I think water and bread should be included. Servers told us the ingredients of each dish which was totally rote. They could not answer any questions about the creation they just served and said it so quickly it was difficult to understand. All in all it was an experience. Likely would not return. 5 changed to 3 s. It bothers me that servers have no clue about the food they serve other than what they memorized. The audacity to charge for flat water and bread at these prices.

The blind tasting menu (chef s choice) is available in 5, 7, or 10 courses but 5 is more than enough to satiate even the biggest appetite. Each dish has a wonderful combination of flavours but what really sets this restaurant apart is the variety. The two of us ordered the 5 course and we were each served different dishes which allowed us to try a total of 10 dishes. The menu starts with an amuse bouche, followed by a chilled seafood dish, a foie gras, meat, cheese, and then dessert. My personal favourites of the night were the king oyster mushroom amuse bouche, the crab, the squab foie, the boar, the thea cheese, and the lemon tart. Our server, who was excellent, suggested the City of Lights and Peachy Keen cocktails and he did not disappoint. Peachy Keen is especially great if you re not too keen on the taste of alcohol.

I can t say enough about this dining experience. We live in Vancouver and come to Toronto once a year and ALWAYS dine at George when we come. The food is impeccable. The chef is an artist, a genius at assembling flavours and sending a beautiful plate to your table every single time. The ambience is warm and inviting, relaxing and comfortable. I have to mention one of the best waiters we have ever had the pleasure of being served by. Enzo. Thank you. Your warmth, your calm, professional, perfect service has made each dining experience so special. You are a gift. Thank you! We will see you next year!

We dine worldwide and have been to some of the best. Greeting was lackluster and unfriendly. Service was okay by main server when we saw her but that was rarely due to the succession of young folks seemingly in training. The dishes were over salted or lacking in flavor. Sommelier could not be bothered to assist with wine pick, too busy with those with wine pairings which only one couple around us was doing? We would not return, have no idea how this is a 2 star Michelin in the least to be honest. We have had far better meals at other places in TO. Sad for my husbands 56th birthday, I was hopeful. Sadly disappointed!

Bravo GEORGE Restaurant! This is what fine dining in Toronto is all about. Were still on cloud nine after the beautiful evening we had at this gorgeous restaurant. They handled our dinner party exceptionally well. All of my family and guests were so impressed by the quality of food and level of service. A big thank you to Mark, Alex, Eli, John, and Chef Lorenzo and his team, who all offered an exceptional dining experience that truly made our night so special! Also, a warm thank you to Anna, George Restaurants event planner. Annas highly communicative, honest and flexible approach made planning our event a fun and effortless experience. The food - Phenomenal! Delicious and aesthetically stunning dishes. Each course was carefully crafted, cooked to perfection and plated so beautifully. The portions were just right. For a fine dining establishment, they were surprisingly quite big. Overall, we were very content with the calibre of food and the quality of service provided. If youre looking for a new favourite restaurant in Toronto, GEORGE Restaurant is a must try! A truly incredible venue to host all of your dinners and events.

Our server was amazing. She was very polite and an overall delight. The hostess(female) has too much attitude for working the front of a restaurant. Food presentation was on point. So much so I think they forgot the flavour side of the dishes. :| Food was mid at best . And considering how much we paid,we were extremely underwhelmed and disappointed. Cheese plate felt like a lazy(and cheap) way to get you another plate And I guess its a sign of the times. But the place was not very busy at all. The atmosphere was lacking a bit. Im not sure we will be back for a second chance. There are so many great spots in this city.

The place is very nice. The tasting menu is very interesting and a must try. However, unfortunately, there have been few mistakes not expecting by a restaurant by its standing. First was serving us plates that were for another table and got taken our immediately, second, we mentioned specifically no bacon and no foie gras, and we got served both, and it is only while the waiter was explaining the plates, we realised and mentioned it otherwise no one noticed! Having said that, the restaurant remains exceptionally good and a must try if in Toronto.

What a lovely place for a dinner date night! The restaurant hit the right spot! If it wasn t a Tuesday night, we would ve tried the wine pairing. We ended up choosing the 7-course Tasting Menu and was blown away by each and every course. What s amazing is each person receives a different dish; 14 different dish! Our food kept coming and coming and not one dish disappointed! The 5-course would ve definitely be more than enough, but the 7-course was an amazing choice for our first visit. Can t wait to return and try their A La Carte menu. The atmosphere was lovely and would ask to be seated in the middle next time to really take in the atmosphere of the restaurant.

Excellent experience. Travelled from Ottawa to propose to my fiancee here. Our initial reservation cancelled and GEORGE Restaurant exceeded all my expectations in all possible ways. We even received a private booth which gave an excellent ambiance to our evening. Our server, Robert, was one of the best Ive had the pleasure of interacting with in my fine dining experience. The chef at Georges even went out of their way to prepare something special after hearing the happy news. Would happily recommend the tasting menu and wine pairing to anyone interested, almost too good. Blew some of the 5 star restaurants in the capital straight out of the water. Will be returning for the wedding, cant give enough paise for a job well done and some incredible cuisine.

Came here for an anniversary dinner and holy hell this place is worth the hype. I have never been to this caliber of restaurant before so maybe Im a bit biased but this blew me away! We sat on the beautiful courtyard patio which was so intimate and romantic. The service was impeccable, sommelier Patrick was unbelievably knowledgeable and let us ask him a million questions. We tasted a couple wines and had a bottle of Mother Rock Holocene from 2020 on his recommendation and it was such a zippy and interesting wine! The food was outstanding, presentation was unbelievable. Each dish was explained to us by the lovely servers who were all so nice! We had the 7 course vegetarian tasting menu - and my partner and I were each served DIFFERENT dishes! Plus an amuse bouche compliments of the chef which was so nice. Each dish was so interesting and delicious, we had lengthy conversations about each trying to identify flavours. Just amazing. And they even decorated our dessert plates with a Happy Anniversary wish! So thoughtful. The experience took us about 3.5 hours. Would recommend this to anyone celebrating a special occasion. Very pricey of course but worth every penny. I didnt take a ton of photos because I wanted to be off my phone but hopefully these give you an idea of the artistry at play here! Vegetarian options: Vegetarian tasting menu was outstanding

We planned to come here for the tasting menu but as we made reservations we noticed they had an event that combined drinks and appetizers at bar Secrette and a 3 course meal at the restaurant so we chose this instead. Bar: stylish, cozy but unfortunately empty (one other couple) so the atmosphere was lacking a bit but it was early in the evening. The cocktails were delicious , flavourful and interesting so were the appetizers. Restaurant: the part that really stood out was the service at George. The staff makes you feel very welcome and special. My Lobster salad was delicious and presentation spot on. Atmosphere was a bit too stiff for me.

We made reservations online and arrived a bit early. Already had 2 groups ahead of us. We got seated at a spacious table, and offered with flat or sparkling water. Opt for the 7 course menu. The server explain to us that the 7 course menu is not a lot more than the 5 course in terms of portion, but just more varieties. We added wine pairing as well. For 2 people, all the dishes are different, so for example, we opt for the 7 course menu, we have 14 different dishes. The wine pairing are also different (mostly, but some dishes they serve the same wine). Food 4 star only, reason is its pretty repetitive. For example, theres carrots in 2-3 dishes, AND they all taste sour (probably due to marinated in vinegar). The scallop dish ....the scallop has a very light taste, no sweetness at all. Red meats and foie gras are pretty good. Portion is sufficient/ make sense for the pricing. Service 4 star because 1) some waitress/ waiter has strong accents and I cannot understand what are they saying when they explain the dishes. Very difficult to communicate. 2) Sometimes to food comes before the sommelier, so we have to wait for the wine to come before we eat and the food gets cold. For a high-end restaurant like George, I expect a seamless experience.

For the price and the reputation, we expected better. My husband and I celebrated our first anniversary with a 7-course tasting menu at George. Watching an inexperienced and understaffed (yet somehow also overpopulated?) workforce try to keep up with the virtually frenetic pace of each tables double-blind tasting menus was harried to say the least. Food runners pushed past servers who were mid-sentence tableside. Food runners semi-regularly u-turned from the dining room back to the kitchen with plates they couldnt serve since the sommelier had not yet poured the accompanying pairing. Then conversely wed receive our pairing and wait upwards of 30 minutes for the dish to arrive. Food was somewhat banal. The lobe of foie gras it took 30 minutes to receive lacked any texture that a decent sear would have provided. There must have been carrots on almost every dish coming out of the kitchen that night, it just felt, meh. Our server had great personality once we pulled it out of her, but she needs time to find her finesse and nuance. The decor and vibe were a saving grace, but the atmosphere was negatively impacted by how frantic the staff seemed. Perhaps a streamlined menu approach is in order while staffing shortages continue to impact the industry. But what do I know, the place was packed. It just didnt feel commensurate with its $400pp price tag, and 3 hours for 7 courses is too long.

December 21, 2023

Atmosphere - quiet, dark and dated. Service - The server seemed uncomfortable explaining the dishes. Not her fault but before each course we were interuped and subjected to having to listen to her quiet voice and unconfident demeanour. Food - horrible. Lots of different sauces to mask the low quality meats. The 5 course tasting menu seemed like leftovers from the night before. The men got one dish and the women got another. I was stuck with pigeon - which was tough and stale. Could not help but wonder if I was served a pigeon off the streets of Toronto.

We have been to George many times . I always say that this is the best restaurant for me in Toronto and that it doesn t lag behind many michelin star restaurants we dined at. Tonight s food was DISAPPOINTING. The food was one- tone , over-sauced , over salty , over cooked ( except for the scallop - which was perfect) . My partner doesn t eat mushrooms - yet one of his dishes came with mushrooms. It was peas and cauliflowers in everything. For some reason , the food lacked coherence and elegance - which has never happened before. Every time I left George in the past i thought I couldn t wait to come back again. Not this time. This was not a first class meal. Also, there was some sort of plastic on the ceiling - ugly. Not sure what was going on. Not going back for sone time.

I did not expect when we (2 people) ordered the 10 tasting course to be treated with 20 unique dishes. I would say the 7 course is definitely more than enough for a meal to be completely satisfied but damn, the effort they put in was astronomical. I dont consider myself an expert in any of this, and it is not in my scope to tell you if you should spend over 100 dollars per person on a meal, but I think the magical element is that the food legitimately tastes fantastic. Review for vegetarian menu! We had the 5 course tasting menu. I had the vegetarian option and my partner had the meat option. The service was amazing and there was a good variety of flavors on my plates, which was appreciated. I have to take off one star because my main was a block of unseasoned tofu with sauce on top. I absolutely hate when restaurants, especially nice restaurants, dont put enough thought into their vegetarian dishes. Tofu is a blank slate, you cant expect it to be flavourful or have a good texture on its own. This was the only course I didnt finish because it was so bland and disappointing. If they change that in the future, Id give them 5 stars.

The 7 course tasting menu was a perfect food experience for the price, and made for an excellent birthday celebration. Each course was created and presented with care, and I left feeling quite full (but not overfull). The best part of the experience was that for each course, they prepare a different dish for each person - so you can try even more dishes and flavours. We also tried a couple cocktails which are excellent, and the restaurant also has an extensive wine menu - with the possibility of adding wine pairings to the tasting menu as well.

My wife and I visited on Nov. 25th, 2023 for our wedding anniversary and splurged on the 7 course tasting menu with the accompanying wine pairings. When youre paying $600+ for a dinner for 2 people, I think most of us hope to have a dining experience that is memorable, and this simply wasnt the case. I dont think we would return at half the price we paid. The food wasnt bad - it was simply not worth the price we paid, and did not live up to the reputation the restaurant has. Im left with the feeling that many patrons who offer rave reviews simply havent dined at world-class restaurants that do deserve their reputation. Key issues for us included: -Wine pairings/sommelier. The wines were lovely. They unfortunately often appeared 10-15 minutes before the course they were meant to accompany. Its really difficult to not chat and sip your wine, which meant our wine was often gone by the time the courses came out. On one occasion the wine never appeared for our course and our waiter had to apologize profusely. The sommelier was also very awkward and really did not enhance our dining experience. I would have preferred they just pour the wine and walk away. -Food temperature. Several courses were a mix of cool, room temperature, and warm ingredients, which felt unintentional - like had the hot ingredients cooled too much, or the cold ingredients not come to room temperature. It was very odd. -No wow factor. My wife and I had 14 unique dishes between us. Not a single one was memorable. For what we paid I would have expected a few examples of something really special, unique or interesting. If you have enough money that spending $350/person on a dinner doesnt make you raise your eyebrows, Im sure youll have a pleasant enough meal. For the rest of us, Im not sure I can justify a recommendation or a return visit.
