Elevated North American Tavern.
Cozy clean and chic English Pub with amazing food! This place is an institution. Amazing food, maybe the best burger in the city. Soft bun, perfect patty, American cheese - *chefs kiss* - oh and the fries! Also had their steak, pork chop and plenty more. And their sticky toffee pudding is the best in the city, without a doubt! Great beer selection, as well as excellent cocktails and mocktails . Service is always friendly and attentive. This is a perfect spot for a casual meal, but also a special occasion. They somehow manage to accommodate both. Great place!
It's likely my favorite burger and fries combo in the city. The bacon adds another level to the burger, which is already amazing on its own. Just like the presentation of the burger, the fries seem unassuming until they enter your mouth; upon which point McDonald's fries seem like a distant cousin from which only the slightest flavor profile emanates to this superior iteration. It's not a cheap burger, but the diner gets what they paid for. A nice, juicy, not over the top with gimmicky toppings, bacon cheeseburger with simply salted amazing fries. I'm eagerly looking forward to my return visits for other items on the menu.
Must have been an off night. The smelts were cooked to oblivion, not what I experienced previously. Dry and very salty. Everything was overly salty. Atmosphere and staff are great. Please bring back the great food. My friend’s Hamburg was raw when she ordered medium. They did comp that and her 2 drinks which was very gracious of them. Just get it back please. Love the place.
Great food! Very friendly staff. We had a group of 8 and one of our party is allergic to gluten, there were a few hick ups and our server ended up comping the meal. The steak was very tasty and they had a great drink selection.
Maple Leaf Tavern has a cozy atmosphere and delicious beverage & food offerings. We dined in during the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, and I got the fire roasted turkey dinner special. The appetizers and frosted mug beer also did not disappoint.
Had Pretty solid burger here it wasnt exactly a pub style burger but it hit all the right notes. Others were content with the tavern pie as well. The menu is fairly limited but everything was delicious and quality. The service was quick and the location is very nice and has that classic British tavern look and feel.
Follow @bredgyeats for more food posts! Beef was cooked really well to a medium, seasoned well and a charred taste, rounded out by the melted cheese. Pickle relish helps provide a balancing tang. The bun a little overly toasted, nice fluffiness but nothing remarkable. Fries were seasoned generously with salt and came with garlic mayo, fries were moist on inside and outside is crispy despite it being takeout.
Been wanting to go to the Maple Leaf Tavern for a while now. Awesome restaurant the serves really unique dishes. Had the Tavern Pie, GF had the trout. Both highly recommended. The short rib serving in the pie was substantial. The trout was perfectly cooked, i.e., to GF's liking. Most definitely will return.
Fantastic as always
I was quite surprised by the food. My Rib eye steak was one of the better ones I have had in a long time.
Nice food. Nice atmosphere. Enjoyed myself. Food : 5/5
Vegetarian options: Good choice Kid-friendliness: Great options Food : 5/5 |
Ribeye was unbelievably salty. fries and sticky toffe pudding were good.
Always enjoy this place, great food and the service is always excellent, love the fact that they change the menu seasonally. Keep up the good work!
Beautiful decor, cozy, elevated classy vibe. The food from starters to mains were consistently top tier quality. Drinks slaps Service was I wish they can turn downstairs into a prohibition type speakeasy. This establishment oozes character.
Good food (would love more veggie options) but music and vibe is always amazing
Definitely nailed the upscale tavern vibe. The food was top notch and professional service. The burger is a must, same with any of the starters. Youre going to want to share because everything is so tasty
An East end staple.
I loved this restaurant. I was having a rough work day and came to the Tavern afterward for dinner. It *completely* turned my mood around. Its not trendy, and I mean that in the most positive way possible. Looks super nice and cool and relaxed, airy space with touches of homey pub and nice restaurant all mixed in. The service was outstanding, as was the food. We shared steak (for two) and caesar salad and bread, all of it was cooked perfectly and presented nicely. It was exactly what I needed and Im grateful that Ive found what is sure to be my new local spot.
A Tavern thats never open ? I would love to share my experience but I never know when this place is open . Whenever I walk by it s empty . Beautiful looking bar with a great patio but I don t think it s for the casual walk in diner .
Something has changed drastically, and not for the better, at MLT. Its a shame because I live in Riverdale and would love for this place to be my local. When it re-opened after extensive renovation, it was an excellent chop house that ticked all the boxes, with value for your budget. Now, not so much. The current iteration of the cheeseburger says it all. For a place with Tavern in the title, the burger should be a star item on the menu. And indeed, it used to be very satisfying, when it was a nice thick and juicy patty. No longer. The current cheeseburger is now a thin, disappointing excuse for its predecessor. Did the kitchen think people wouldnt notice?? You may as well as go across the street to McDonalds and save $20, because what they serve is comparable. But my real issue is with the wine list. As someone who spent many years toiling in the salt mines of the restaurant business, I understand that you have to make your money on the booze. But the markup at MLT inexcusably outrageous. Theres a reason they dont include pricing on the online drinks menu - if they did, you would never try it. Note to management: this is the East End, not Rosedale! $25 for a glass of AUS shiraz (even if it is from Margaret River) is nothing short of gouging. Thanks but Id rather go across the street to the LCBO and get a whole bottle of AUS shiraz for $25 and enjoy it at home. You cant even order a bottle of wine enjoyably because the philosophy of gouging applies to the list as well. Really too bad that what started out as so promising has become so disappointing.
Was looking forward to going here. Our table was in the very back next to the kitchen even tho we walked passed many empty booths and I made reservations 4 weeks aga!! The place was freezing, literally blowing cold air on me we had to get moved. I ordered the burger due to reviews, thats a laugh. Store bought buns cheese and meat.. fries Im sure came from across the street at McDonalds - $28 Partner had the flavorless flank steak with McDonald fries -$30 again ... Its a bar, way over priced for what they seem to think is gourmet food lol.. make your own fries for gods sake!!
Beautiful atmosphere, great staff and delicious food. Vegetarian options: Being a Tavern which typically focuses on meat centric dishes, they have lots of sides and two mains that are vegetarian friendly. Dietary restrictions: Dairy can be removed where necessary
The service at this restaurant was simply the best. Attentive, polite, patient. The steak and broccoli were delicious. We also shared a rib eye which was cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back here
pie yum
The food here is very good - however they list prices on their menu and then charge a different price . Olives are listed as $9 on the menu and then on your bill before tax they are $10 . I have gone twice and both times I have mentioned it to my server and every time they say they will fix it but don t ! Last time the server was very rude to me when I brought it up and asked to speak to a manager . Our server the first time was great but the second time the server just seemed annoyed with no smile on her face .
Okay so I dont even know where to start. My partner got the tavern pie for dinner and HOLY SMOKES it was beyond delicious. The whipped potatos were so fluffy and creamy they looked like a sauce of some sort. I had the foccia bread and the parmesan on top was like snow it was so light. Food amazing, drinks delicious, service impeccable and it just seems like a nice cozy place to get a bite to eat.
Came here for a date night and was pleasantly surprised with the food! Very tasty smelts and focaccia for appetizers, very flavourful burger, and my husband had the tavern pie and it was so good!
Fantastic food, drinks and service tonight. Every single thing we had was awesome. Burger is one of the best Ive had in the city and comes close to and possibly exceeds the legendary Harbord Room burger. New fave spot!
Chicken liver pate and cheeseburger were absolutely delicious!
Have been here multiple times and every single time the food and service is top notch. Food
Came in the other day after talking to a buddy who knew a former chef here. Was told the steak and grill chefs dont eat Beef :o and I like to try things out when I here them. After going in and trying the food I gotta say it was under seasoned and definitely not the worth the price. Had a burger and it was not impressive .The atmosphere is nice but you can get that at a cactus club or any other chain up the street. If you want to support local then Id give it a shot but when your cook doesnt eat what he serves its probably wise to rehire or find a new head chef that doesnt make mistakes like that and lets the information leave their kitchen.
Amazing local restaurant. I had the steak and it was delicious. Thanks to all of the hosts and servers for making our experience really special. This is definitely going to become a regular spot.
My new favourite place!! Dreaming about the roasted eggplant dish... the service, atmosphere and food are outstanding!!
Cool place with great food and a nice atmosphere. I loved the Tavern Pie and I appreciated the tasty non-alcoholic drink selections.
Oh my goodness, this may be my favourite place to go now! Service was kind and attentive, the kitchen staff is communicative and so deeply skilled, its incredible. I had the fire roasted eggplant off the Autumn menu and it reminded me of when I lived in Cyprus. So delicious and cooked absolutely perfectly. I dont live in Toronto, but I will definitely be back soon. Vegetarian options: There were more vegetarian options than I would have thought, and they all sounded so amazing. A few vgf options too!
This restaurant definitely deserves its hype - everything we had here was amazing. Can t wait to be back
I just went here today as I have not been there in almost 1 year...the food quality dropped considerably, sorry to see that. Beer selection is garbage for a tavern. And the bartender was nice and told me that they had a change in chef/management? I liked the place a year ago, but not now. I cant imagine this place surviving more than a year from now.
I went here with my son and girlfriend and was expecting a bar with Canadian on tap and bar food. Well, it looks like an old bar, but I never had such simple but excellent food in an old bar. Great beer selection, great food, patient staff, great atmosphere. I will go again.
The 28 days need is really too salty:( Group of 4 have the same feeling:( Order medium well beef, hard to chew But Wonderful service and Romantic vibe Like the appetizer so much
A down to earth spot with friendly service and unpretentious food. Chef Steve Allery created a menu that has something for everyone and applies his POV on classic dishes, such as homemade potato chips with French onion dip, shrimp toast and squash cavatelli. And you got to leave room for dessert the sticky toffee pudding
Wow! Just, wow! Despite the name, the Maple Leaf Tavern has seriously elevated food. Everything was delicious. Friendly staff, excellent service, the chefs and kitchen staff know what they re doing. Will definitely go back. Nice restaurant. Busy place, reservations highly recommended.
I finally had the chance to try this spot out and I am so disappointed I didnt check it out sooner. The cocktail selection was fun with some solid non-alcoholic options too. I had the hangar steak with chimichurri which was solid but do not sleep on in the eggplant or the pie. Also, be sure to order the sticky Toffee pudding for dessert.
Had a Christmas dinner here with sisters and brothers. Food was excellent!! Unique and something for everyone. Cocktails too! Service was amazing. Nice cozy atmosphere too.
The food and drink were phenomenal I savoured every sip and bite that I took! The service was incredible. The chef is doing interesting things with locally sourced ingredients and changes the menu seasonally. Everything about this place is an absolute treat!
Always a great experience. Fantastic service and great food. A hidden gem. Good opportunity to do food sharing with few guests as they have some larger plates.
I had the best first date of my life here tonight. I m so glad I chose Maple Leaf Tavern as this first outting! The ambience was beautiful it felt like a combination of upscale 70s 90s with modern flare, cool servers and BEAUTIFUL FOOD. My date and I started with a couple glasses of champagne which were served up in beautiful cold glassware by our awesome servers Jodi & Heather. We started with the beet salad which is by no means a regular salad and the mustard on it really something special. Then we took our servers recommendation for the steak tartare which is served in a huge bone. Very special touch that I ve never seen before. Awesome spot, service, music, food, and ambience we created a very special memory here and will be sure to return. By the way there is a section in the restaurant that is open and you can watch the chefs make your food and enjoy the action of the restaurant. Really cool. I m really glad I came here! By the way if you re reading this be sure to check out the owners second restaurant PORT in Pickering. It s an architectural masterpiece that sits right on the Frenchman s bay waterfront with spectacular sunset water views of both Lake Ontario and the Frenchman s Bay. Located 20 minutes east in the suburb of Pickering which is how I heard about this location Maple Leaf Tavern.
It was delicious. The price performance ratio is good, the service is very nice. I recommend
Excellent food and service.
Hi we were there yesterday for a family dinner ( 4 ppl). The food and the service are very good, the problem is that we asked if we could be sat at one of these rectangular tables just next to the huge table for 5 or 6 that we were offered and we were told that you need now to pay extra money at reservations for that. I found it very uncool from this restaurant. We come to celebrate family birthdays every year there. I wasn t expecting to face the same than when booking a flight, in a restaurant.. also, the table we were interested was free the whole time we stayed. This review is for management interest.
Service was fantastic (thank you Hannah!!), food was good but didnt blow us away. The truffle fries were a crowd favorite, and they have a good wine selection.
super
Our server was top notch. Great wine service, checked in with us the perfect amount of times, cleared plates promptly between courses. Food was divine, we did the winterlicious menu and it was clear that Chef Stephane and his team have put a lot of thought and effort into the execution of these items. All very delicious, tasty, inviting, the hen of the woods dish was my personal highlight and the sauce on the caesar salad, wow!! Definitely coming back here!!
Let me tell you of a little tavern, I call my home away from home. From the emerald bricks on the wall to rustic lighting, the ambience of Maple Tavern captures your heart. Esther and her team go beyond many s reach to make you feel warm and comfortable, yet classy and always on point. Esther continues to bring a dining experience together without one seam out of place, her leadership skills and personality is one to always take note of, for its beyond formal and caring if not first definitely second nature. Mike the bartender always with a smile, able to have anyone in delightful conversation, and has never missed serving a class drink that keeps you feeling like a formal gentleman that warms your heart. I tip my hat to the Tavern I get to call home away from home. Thank you for making me feel more than welcome. For future viewers, dont miss the opportunity to feel at home. With Delight, A Traveller on Earth
This was the first time I have eaten here. I wanted to try something different. This place was amazing. We sat at the Chefs rail. It was great we could see everything going on in the kitchen. Our dessert was even served by the Chef himself. We will definitely be back to try the regular menu.
The service was really good but the food was not good. We had cod that was not fresh ( very fishy smelling and tasting) the pork chop was 80%fat Small potatoes were reheated. We were quite disappointed and will not return.
Really good food. The cheeseburger is outstanding. Good service. Will definitely be back.
Exceptional service, amazing drink venue and delicious food.
Great place to share with friends and family. Nive food, kind staff. Food
Absolutely wonderful BBQ sauce. Its not what you think!
Came here for dinner and happy with their food and service. The place is busy with good vibe. We sat along the chef rail and able to see all the food prep actions. One suggestion to improve could be to tune down abit of the music as towards the end of dinner it could get pretty loud indoor as they didnt had a high ceiling.
Very limited vegetarian options and the items recommended by the host were not good at all. The Cavatelli pasta was awful, no taste at all. Roasted carrots were served burnt to us which was pathetic. Not coming back for the food for sure, may be for ambience and drinks we might!
A fantastic meal here again. Steve Allery is a fantastic chef and has a great team. All the staff are wonderful. Highly recommend!
Empty seats at tavern but person at door said that kitchen and bar is overwhelmed that you cant be seated... What a joke Wow after 3 months someone actually got back too me!! Cant blame bartender for whom ever runs the ship. As owners/ managers $$ stops with you!
Fantastic restaurant in the East end. Service was great and the food was even better. Hearing that it was our first time dining with them, they surprised us and brought us an extra appetizer on the house. Really appreciated the attention to detail and flavours.
Great food and loved the atmosphere
The tavern has been a local fav until recently! Unfortunately, the burger here has changed to completely different ingredients (different bun, different cheese, even a different patty) and the fries are just regular old frozen fries now! We were very disappointed since we loved those burgs, sadly we wont be back though its no fault of the establishment.
Had an excellent experience at Maple Leaf Tavern for dinner! We started it off with the potatoes and French onion dip (which I wanted to bottle up and take home). The steak tartare, romesco asparagus, ranch potatoes, and the strip loin steak took our breaths away, and the sticky toffee pudding brought us to heaven. Currently at the pearly gates as we speak. I cannot recommend this place enough. Superb!!
Ok. Shut up. They offer you a candle at an overturned milk crate for two in the back alley, you say yes please and hold the back talk, because you ve just scored.
Lovely spot for some classic, but elevated meals and crafted cocktails. We had a group of 10 and everything was very delicious with attentive service. Relaxed pub style atmosphere in a historic building. A perfect spot for a date night or group dinner.
This place is great. Chicken liver mousse is rich and creamy. The Tavern pie is decadent. I got to watch the grill master work from my seat and I wish I had room for steak because she was AWESOME!
Great food, good service at reasonable prices
We went there Saturday evening, they are offering happy hour price on that day. We didnt eat since breakfast and we were looking for a large plate. But the menu is a bit confusing, as some dishes are very pricey and doesnt came with sides, we opted for snacks. All snacks with 50% off (Happy hour). We absolutely love all of them. Cod croquette is great.
My partner and I had a special meal here. We ordered from the Summerlicious menu and then had a few other things to share. Everything was phenomenal with such intense and yummy flavours, I can t decide on which was my favourite. Service was amazing and smooth and the sticky toffee pudding as dessert was the ending to a perfect meal! Dietary restrictions: Gluten friendly
Amazing service and food. Thank you for the lovely day!
This has been my special occasion restaurant since 2018. Love it. Best burger in the area!
Im so delighted that this historic restaurant has such incredible food (thanks to Chef Steve Allery and his team). We enjoyed the roasted beets, braised ribs pie, steak, and Eton mess. Everything was delicious. The patio is perfect for summer. The Pisco drinks are a must. Highly recommend!
The Maple Leaf Tavern is a grand old lady that was restored not so long ago, into a glorious room. Efficient service, thoughtful cocktails and wine and great food to go with it.
I ve been dying to make it to Maple Leaf Tavern for a few years now to try their burger. I finally made it summer 2023 and it was spectacular! Worth the wait. Service was a bit slow but we weren t fussed, nor in a rush. We sat outside by the old maple leaf tavern sign which was very cool. Again, thé burger was incredible! Highly recommend. Our server said they re opening for lunch which is going to be awesome!
Came here with my partner after work. We called prior and asked if we needed a reservation, they told us they had lots of tables and space on the phone and it wouldnt be necessary. When we arrived the hostess, who was barely 18, was rude, did a once over of what we were wearing. Mind you, we ve been to tons of high end michelin restaurants, and no one has ever scoffed us for wearing t-shirt and pants w sneakers. Like Im sorry, but even servers at alo wear jeans and sneakers, it was so unnecessary. She then made a big deal of us not having a reservation, and did big dramatic gesture of walking around the floor 3 times, stating they had no tables. We told her we called literally 20 mins prior and wrote told thwre qas lota of space. She then offered to sit us at the bar, we stated no as we could see many booths and tables available (this was on a weekday at 1700, so not even weekend). We told her if they didnt have space and we werent welcome we can go somewhere else. She then magically found a table in the back for us. We watched numerous other people vome in, dressed business casual who were seated right away despite not having a reservation. We asked the 2 tables next to us and they confirmed this. We also had our meal and saw at least 4 tables untouched the entire 3 hrs and remained empty when we left. The complete pretension and snobby attitude of the host, and servers was so unnecessary and off putting. Its like they typecast us as dine and dashers or riff raff. So. Rude. The food was great, it was super tasty and its unfortunate bc we live 15 mins away and were looking for a regular place for food, but after this experience we never want to go back. We ordered over 150$ of food and still left them a 20% tip to ensure we broke any stereotypes of us and were super polite the whole time. Get over your snobby affair environment youre trying to make. Youre just hurting your own business.
Arrived 10 minutes before the Kitchen closed and were welcomed with open arms! So classy and professional. Service was Excellent, Food Delish- one of the best hamburgers in Toronto and GREAT cocktails:) can t wait to go back!
I strongly recommend their excellent sticky stuffy pudding
Great new look. Excellent management. Lacklustre overpriced food. AVOID. The $20 Caesar salad is thin, dull and bland. NOT WORTH $20 CDN by any stretch of the imagination. No bacon, few if ANY croutons, absolutely no cheese . Rip off. Manager Todd told me they made their 8oz hamburger meat patty was a half pound. DEFINITELY NOT. See the picture Really barely a 4oz one. It s pathetically small. NO WAY ITS A HALF POUND BURGER DONT LIE. McDonalds Quarter Pounder is BIGGER than Maple Leaf $25 cheeseburger. Sad but true and documented here. This burger was TINY AND NOT A half pound. A place charging overpriced burgers ($25) should definitely deliver a DECENT size burger. Maple Leaf is untrue: 1/4 pound of ground beef is NOT equal to 1/2 pound, as erroneously claimed by management. NOT EVEN CLOSE. SEE PICTURE pathetic. It s OBVIOUSLY NOT A HALF POUND.
I haven t seen the patio. Inside is just the right amount of dim. The food is delicious, and they always surprise me with something new and unexpected (we go once or twice a year). They have two cocktails on tap, which is fun: rye and ginger, or Manhattan; both of which are perfect and served with flair. Go. You won t be disappointed.
Went here after seeing the good reviews, I was not impressed. I had the tavern pie and my friend had the burger. The pie was what happens when you have a gastropub just for the sake of being different. The deconstructed presentation is fine, but the whole thing was bland. The meat and potatoes both needed salt. My friend had the burger, also bland. It was moderately busy for a weekday, but there s no excuse for not even refilling our water. Although I will say, it is a very nice building with a well decorated interior. Overpriced, can t recommend.
This neighbourhood gem is a regional star. I was blown away by MLT last night. The whole deal. Great homely food with delightful gourmand touches. We had focaccia, shrimp toast, beef pie, pasta, steak, sticky toffee, crumble/panna cotta. They all had elements you d normally get when paying another 10 or 20 bucks a head up town and bread and pasta is freshly made on site. Great value. The braised beef in the pie beyond mouthwatering, to call it a pie is like calling a Ferrari a car. Carrots to die for! Yes, humble carrots storming the table! The lightest sticky toffee pudding I ve ever had. Wow. And the shrimp toast hugged your taste buds like a cuddle from your favourite child. Wine list and ales excellent, as you d expect of a restaurant with tavern in the title. And a real team of staff you d trust your most special events too. The atmosphere is just like the food, it hugs you the moment of entry and embraces you all evening like a long lost cousin. It s that welcoming. The Owners and Team have created something pretty special here in the east end and I don t blame the locals for not shouting about it. After all, you wouldn t want your table space taken non-locals, would you?
Food was great, especially the shrimp chips. Yummy yummy shrimp chips. We did all small dishes, and the sticky toffee pudding for desert. Really happy with the new chef.
Just a great East side gem. Chef Steve is awesome, never forget Hugh, obviously. FOH staff is awesome, send Marissa all of my love. Just go in and enjoy every single thing you order and drink. Stop being weird and get there now. Vegetarian options: My wife is allergic to all nuts, no issue. All shellfish, no issue. We are both allergic to all BS, no issue at all!!!! Dietary restrictions: Just let them know and I promise they will do everything they can to accommodate. Its just one of those places that makes you ALWAYS feel like you are comfortable and have options, no matter what. I find it odd that we have to comment on this, shouldnt the hospitality industry be hospitable? Maple Leaf Tavern is exactly that, perfectly hospitable, comfortable, friendly, and just the spot you always want to be at. Go enjoy your night there, RIGHT NOW!!!! Parking: Just park directly across the street at Gerrard square, simple. Kid-friendliness: They love kids. I dont have any of my own, but other peoples kids are cool. Just bring em. Wheelchair accessibility: Not really wheelchair accessible. TBH, I spent 13 weeks in a wheelchair and this would not be my go to. Sorry friends.
Excellent food, attentive service, and a lively ambience. We had a wonderful evening celebrating a birthday! I would particularly recommend the chicken pate and the chocolate caramel cake.
I hadnt been to the Maple Leaf Tavern since 2019 and now Im thinking I should be visiting every month. Absolutely fabulous food, cozy atmosphere, friendly BOH and FOH staff - even the playlist was excellent. Honestly, my only source of consternation is the menu, as absolutely everything sounded delectable and it was very hard to choose. Highly recommend the Manhattan on Tap, which comes with the best cocktail cherries Ive ever eaten.
So cute and romantic! First time trying beef tartar and it was delicious. The beef tenderloin was cooked to perfection and the sides were a great addition.
Delicious food executed perfectly. Service was knowledgeable and attentive without being intrusive. Wish we lived coser to this Toronto gem. Food : 5/5
Great experience, clean and pleasing dining room. The food is excellent too ! I was on the spot in front of the kitchen and you can really see how precise and careful they are with their cooking. A must go ! Food
Great food and atmosphere. Been here 2x now and overall I like the food and drinks. Its a nice addition to the neighbourhood. Bit pricey but worth it. I wanted to give this place 5 stars until 1 night, a table of 3 women were seated right next to our family and given complimentary food right in front of us when all they ordered were drinks. Thought that was kinda rude. Aside from that one off experience, Id still go back hoping for more balanced service the next time.
SUCH beautiful food at Maple Leaf Tavern last night! We were celebrating a birthday, so did the tasting menu (which changes sometimes), and everything was WOW. The menu is posted in the pics. Heather and team and team took great care of us!
Service and Food excellent! Great atmosphere
Esther and Jasmine are the best ever!!!! Thanks so much
Came here for a cocktail. Was hoping to get a maple cocktail of some sort and the bartender whipped up a special concoction that did not disappoint. It was exactly what I wanted. He was super friendly too. The atmosphere here is classy and cozy. I would totally have had dinner here if I didn t already have a reservation somewhere else. Definitely would come back here. Special spot. Love how friendly the staff is. They know what they re doing when it comes to customer service.
It was a lovely evening, this place may have Tavern in its name but it feels more like a Bistro. Service was great, food was delicious. The decor is warm and inviting. Try it out, you wont regret it. Now ... I cant guarantee that you will love it, but I am comfortable saying that you will like it.
Great place for a steak dinner!
We had a fantastic experience at Maple Leaf Tavern. The staff from the host to chef is warm and welcoming. Our host Esther is friendly, helpful and accommodating. It made our dinner out that much more enjoyable. The food is great and the atmosphere is perfect. Our kids enjoyed the food and the adults love the menu.
Just had the best dinner out and top notch service in years! As a big birthday celebration we ordered a wide variety of items off the menu and each one was delicious! Highly recommend the burger, Brussels, Beets and chocolate tarts. Plus, staff were knowledgeable and welcoming. Great place to get together with friends!
Perfect!
Great service. Thank you Esther and Jasmine for a fantastic brunch experience.
Nice but a bit pricey for what you get. Not much variety on the menu but classy, warm atmosphere.
Wonderful experience! Great atmosphere, delicious food and amazing, helpful staff. I cant wait to go back.
Great atmosphere, outstanding starters, delicious cocktails and good service. Portion sizes could be a little bigger.
Ill just come out and say it. Best Burger I ever had. The food here is Incredible.
Great cuisine!!! When the toast knocks your socks off you know you are in a wonderful meal. (imho). Well be back.
I just had a belated mothers day brunch with my partner and 9 month old daughter. Service was excellent and the food was great but we did have an issue when orderinh something for our daughter. I asked for a single scrambled egg without salt or seasoning for her to pick at. What came was a full scrambled egg breakfast. I didnt question it at the time. After giving her several bites, my partner tried the eggs only to find them quite spicy. When I told the waitress, she did apologize and said maybe there had been something on the grill. My baby seemed fine so no harm done. But then we got the bill and her meal was not comped. We paid $8 for part of an egg. At that point my daughter was getting restless so we just paid and left. I dont think well be back, sadly.
The food was fabulous. And the service was great.
My husband and I had a great time at Maple Leaf Tavern. Great food: lobster cavatelli, aspargus, halibut, brussels, and rhubarb pavlova as a desert. Woww, everything to die for! I had Paloma fresca as my drink . Amazing environment, and Heather was our waitress, who was very helpful and knowledgeable. Its worthy every penny.
Yet another excellent brunch with stand out service at this outstanding Toronto eatery.
High quality food & service. There bursts and Brussels sprouts at 10/10
Great food and drinks in a warm atmosphere.
Great fare!
The chowder is absolutely amazing. Try it, youll not believe it. And youll not want any other chowder anymore. W O W !
I love the creative twist on the menu using fresh local produce and ingredients and their drinks are not bad. I was first introduced to them when I had their Thanksgiving take home menu for 8 during covid. And subsequently tried their Valentines menu. The burrata in the appetizer is amazing. Everything on their menu is. Hostesses and waitresses are absolutely nice. Great ambiance and great food.
A great rotating menu, amazing cocktails and the best service.
Casual elegance, top tier cocktails and honestly, some of the best food in Toronto.
Great local eatery, quality food and nice cozy patio. Service is also attentive.
Made a reservation here for dinner, we had great service and tasting meal. They make their Caesar salad with a twist, it comes with a large slab piece of bacon which you cut up yourself. Fried brussel sprouts is a must order size, its fried to perfection and the sauce that accompanies it is to die for. For dessert, we had the Pavlova, had the great airy meringue texture. Would definitely return here to eat these items and try out new ones. Parking: Free street parking in front during off hours. Or you can park by nearby residential neighborhood.
We had our anniversary dinner here, we had been wanting to try it for some time now and finally had a chance! So glad we did, the food was amazing, the portions were a perfect size, and the service was great too. It was also a nice atmosphere, unexpected from the outside really. Definitely recommend for any special event or date night!
My husband and I along with our 25 guests had the absolute pleasure of celebrating our wedding at Maple Leaf Tavern in late August. With our input, the Director of Operations, Esther, and the Executive Chef Renaux created a tasting menu that was just perfect! Along with the tasting menu, Esther suggested canapes and cocktails to start and we finished with a surprise black forest cake decorated with florets and chocolate maple leaves. The hospitality throughout the night was top notch and all our guests were well taken care of. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious and many of our guests raved about the food for days following. We highly recommend the restaurant for any occasion!!
I really enjoy MLT, and the Manhattans are fantastic! I really like the environment and when im having dinner with a friend, theres no better seat than at the Chefs table overlooking the kitchen in action.
Hey there. We went there for a brunch, had heard a lot about this place!!!It was a meal worth the visit! We tried three savoury pancakes, one each and couldn t finish any of them (the quantity is so generous!) We had the hot Dutch, the meat feast and some like it hot. I liked the hot Dutch the most. We asked for chilli oil on the side to give our spicy tooth some treat!!! In the sweet one, we had the poffertjes fruit and ice cream pancake and the banana chocolate waffle!!!
Everything was great except my drink. Ordered a ceasar and it was not good at all.
Great service, steak tartare, onion soup, Bavette steak followed by Black Forest dessert.
Did an evening walk about last night and happened into The Maple Leaf Tavern. Well done! Start to finish. Promptly seated at the bar and enjoyed a fantastic bottle of Amnesty , suggested by Michael.A few appetizers and more drinks followed. A fantastic entertaining place. See you very soon. THANK YOU.
This restaurant is simply exceptional. The food and service are consistently spectacular and each experience there can be unique, which is fun for us regulars. Then menu gets regular additions which respect the bounty and flavours of the seasons. Last night we discovered the charred padron peppers with pickled charred corn and Parmesan emulsion - a magical and unique combination which instantly became the thing I will be craving for a long time to come. We sat at the chef s rail last night and watched Chef Stephane Renaux orchestrate a perfect brigade and got to experience the sights and smells of every dish being prepared for the restaurant. The stunning wood grill is mesmerizing to watch and the smell is unbeatable. We have also sat at the bar for cocktails and snacks and got to know Michael, the most masterful and incredibly knowledgeable mixologist who creates phenomenal cocktails for us, including some delightfully craveable off menu creations on our anniversary and again last night when we sheepishly asked if he could do that special thing again. And then he topped that by adding seasonal flair with special Indigenous herbs! On most visits we curl up in a comfy corner banquette - whichever one is in Jennifer s section - because she s a pure gem. She makes us feel like we re having a lovely dinner at a friend s house, complete with the same excitement you get when your friend starts suggesting all the wonderful things they might want to cook for you. She makes us feel just as special when we shlep in tired for a quick burger and fries as when we come in for a lingering multi course meal. The managers also make every experience wonderful with their friendly greetings and check ins. And last but not least, they expertly and kindly accommodate our food allergies, which is no small feat. To the whole crew at Maple Leaf Tavern, thank you for all you do. We feel spoiled and honoured every time we sit at your table.
Was an excellent dining experience. Food was incredible, every dish tasted great. Very attentive staff. Made a birthday meal extra special.
Absolutely delicious Great service Id definitely recommend it to anyone looking for casual, yet upscale food
Love the food and service at the Maple Leaf Tavern
Came here to celebrate a milestone with family visiting from out of province. We wanted somewhere with high end food with cozy/comfy atmosphere, Maple Leaf Tavern did not disappoint! One thing I noticed as soon as I entered was how staffed up they were! There were SO many people working - and it showed with the service. Our water glasses never even made it to halfway, we ordered 3 starters, drinks, and 4 mains and it was some of the most efficient service Ive seen in a while. Start to finish we were there for only about 1h20mins! The food was incredible, everything had such rich and vibrant flavour. It was balanced impeccably, and the presentation was beautiful. I wouldnt say this is a hidden gem (since the building itself is so large ) but the exterior presentation definitely does not match the fine dining experience. Check it out when youre able (youll need reservations on weekends)!
Had dinner at Maple Leaf Tavern with friends last night, and it was amazing! Had several different appetizers and side dishes and all were delicious... especially the brussels sprouts! Mains and desserts were all excellent as well.. not to mention the best martini Ive ever had! Very nice menu choices and service was outstanding. Highly recommended!
Cool east end bar. Nice
Try the seats overlooking the kitchen. We had a great dinner which included a conversation with the chef while he was cooking. He gave us the inside scoop on the best dishes and provided a free sample. So delicious.
I was here for my first time tonight. And what an experience! The property itself is super unique as it s an old tavern rebranded with fine cuisine. Truly epic. I started with the onion soup - there take on a French onion soup and the base was perfectly balanced with savoury and salty flavours. On the side was bread with melted cheese that you could dunk or break apart and add. I choose to eat mine after I finished the soup. For my main I had a mushroom vegetarian burger and first bite really wowed me. There s tons of flavour from the wood grill that the patty is cooked over which was really unique for a vegetarian option. The rest of the patty was really delicious as well. Side note that you wouldn t expect the garlic aoili for the fries was exceptional.
The food is beyond amazing I dont think there is an adjective in the English language that would do it justice. The service was top notch and the ambiance was amazing. Overall an exceptional experience will be back for sure
We celebrated my spouse s birthday here and could not get over the spectacular service/wonderful food. It was a rainy night but they had a covered patio. Last minute we decided to dine inside because we thought it would be chilly that evening and they were so accommodating. Ester and our server really acknowledged the birthday celebration and provided complimentary burrata (yum) and a sparkling red wine. It s been difficult for the restaurant industry but we re so glad we could celebrate our special occasion at a place that went above and beyond. We ordered the pisco punch and a Manhattan for drinks and the presentation was beautiful but more importantly the taste was amazing. For food we started with a Caesar salad (delicious anchovy sauce) and for our mains we ordered the Bavette steak with chimichurri (this was my favourite dine in meal of the year), cavatelli (handmade) with lobster, and a side of asparagus (a must!). In the past I d come just for the drinks but going forward I d come for both the food and the drinks. Thank you for a memorable evening MLT.
Food and service is fire!!!
Great service 11/10. Really proud of the staff welcoming us to the restaurant. Atmosphere was very soothing. Great place for a date. Ester (host) was MVP - made our experience 10x better. 100% would come back again - quality of the food was very delicious. No bad experiences what so ever. Would come back just for the great service
Excellent
Just the best. The service and the food were both exceptional. Can t wait to return.
I enjoyed the meal a lot. The food was so amazing. Staff treated us like family there. Must try place
This is a definitely a gem located in a great part of a great city! Firstly, the GM greeted us at the door and introduced herself; she was friendly and personable and took into consideration where we wanted to sit and what kind of evening we wanted to have. AWESOME START. My hubby and I sat at the bar and let me tell you, it is a great place to sit. Bar stools, believe it or not, are kind of a big deal haha. They were very comfy, plus we had a great view of all of their interesting bottles and we got to watch some of the best bartenders in Toronto do their stuff. That drink menu! Youve got to try The Jasmine and their take on an old fashioned. Gorgeous glass wear, edible flowers and all! Sitting at the bar you can see other patrons heading out to their cute patio, you can see into the kitchen, and watch happy people come in the front door to also meet the GM. Great views. Oh, did I mention the head chef came out to talk with us about their new menu?! SO FUN. I cant believe I havent even spoke about the food yet! The food is AMAZING. Farm fresh, creative, delicious. They have this corn app (trust me!) youve got to try - popped corn, corn nibblets and hot peppers. Absolutely delish! But our favourite dish has to have been their fried chicken plate! Hooooo mama was that good. First, its a whole chicken, so bring at least one friend and an appetite to finish this one. Secondly, the chicken itself was buttery and fried to perfection. Third, the garnish was soooooooo good: pickled daikon radish, sliced and pickled carrots, fresh lettuce to get creative, and a spicy mayo that just fills you up, head to toe, with happiness. Needless to say, the menu is interesting, thoughtful and incredibly delicious. If we lived in this part of town, Maple Leaf Tavern would be our local watering hole but also a regular date night out for fantastic food and a great vibe. We will be back, no doubt. 1000% recommend!
Had a lovely patio dinner at Maple Leaf Tavern, and will definitely be returning. It was such a lovely experience, right from the moment Esther greeted us at the door. The cocktails were fantastic, the food was out-of-this-world delicious, and they topped it off with a complimentary dessert to share. 5 stars for service, for food, and for atmosphere!
amazing food and lovely service. The bacon was amazing and the steak was very good. The new chef is phenomenal , creating top notch dishes and presentation. A must try
Lovely interior at this historical neighborhood gem. Manager Esther was very welcoming and hospitable. Only had drinks and appetizers but will return for a full dinner soon.
We had an amazing first time experience here. The food was great and incredible. It is nice to see that so much of the ingredients of the meal are sourced locally. Everything was fresh and beautifully presented. We had one plate of the Bavette Steak which was fantastic. This is often an under appericated cut of meat and so it was nice to see it used in a way that was tasty and fresh. Another two people had the Cod and the presentation was lovely (they pour the sauce over the cod for you) it was a fantastic meal. The half Fried Chicken was I thought a full Fried Chicken. So dont order the Full unless you can handle it. It was again, beautifully presented and the cornflake coating was delicious and just the right amount of crispy. The service was wonderful and attentive and just overall welcoming. We took guests there for a meal although my partner and I live around the area, and as such we cant wait to go back.
We randomly found this place after a few fails of trying to get away from downtown. Let me tell you what, this was A+ elevated neighborhood dining at its best. From Jasmine, Heather and bartender Michael tag teaming every patio table, they nailed it. Started with the Watermelon Spritz pitcher, onto our initial app, the Milk Bread and it was accompanied by their shrimp avocado toast by their choice since we were newbies! Our dinners were the trout and cavatelli, and as amazing as you can imagine. We werent planning dessert but they gave us a pavlova with pistachio and strawberry that was out of bounds! Seek this place out!! My only regret is not taking pics of the entrees, equally impressive.
This restaurant is a gem. From the moment I walked in I was welcomed with kind energy from the staff. The food was incredible, each dish was exciting and satisfying. I would definitely come back. Thank you Esther for being so warm.
Great food with excellent service. Nice patio.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Great food.
First time dining in in a long time and it was an incredible experience here at the Maple Leaf. Delicious and exquisite presentation. You just cant get that with take out. Aside from the ambiance, it was great to know that we were in comfort indoors and not on the patio when the thunderstorm hit!
A lot of care is put into their service and menu. The manager (Esther)was very friendly and visited each table. From the outside it looks like a bit of a dive bare and I went in just to grab a quick beer thinking Coors or similar would be their best seller. Ended up staying because it seems they had a lot of reservations booked and the menu was small so something good must be going on. The food was flavourful but I think small details were missed. A $32 trout shouldnt have 6 bones still inside but other than that, everything was technically sound. Theres something here and maybe a repeat visit is in order. Ill make a reservation next time though as I think I was lucky to get a seat at all. Maybe they think I tried to hack the waitlist by just getting a beer to start. I swear I didnt!
Great people and good food
A wonderful patio. Very helpful and doting staff. Great food and drinks. It cant be beat.
Manhattans on tap. That is all! Seriously great spot for either a casual drink/snacks or a proper sitdown dining room experience.
Excellent overall service, staff went above and beyond to accommadate us. The food was amazing and at a reasonable price!
Fabulous ambiance, food, and service. Worth every penny!
Shared a very nice dinner here after just getting in from Alberta. The service was almost too friendly! Everyone wanted to know our names and it did get a bit annoying after 3 asks...haha. But, you can tell theyre really going the extra mile in these times. We had a complimentary app (fried chicken peas, was delicious) which was such a nice touch. Overall this was the best service we had in our 5 day Toronto trip.
Great service & phenomenal burgers cooked to order.
Only went once but the best meal Ive had in years and top notch service. I would definitely go back.
it was an incredible experience here at the Maple Leaf. Delicious food and service was excellent Only went once but the best meal Ive had in years and I would definitely go back.
Very tasty Upscale pub food. Great cocktails. Brussel sprouts were amazing. Would absolutely recommend and will be going again.
The Fogo Island Cod was out of this world! The burger as always is a TO staple
Great Service . Good Drinks New menu
Its a cute good place to sit down for a bit and enjoy some food.
Amazing service, high quality food and a great building to boot.
Excellent food and drink but pricier than expected. Probably necessary due to loss of revenue during pandemic restrictions.
MLT is now our restaurant, the place we go to for a special night out. The menu goes from cheeseburger to risotto and changes with the seasons. My wife loved the beet salad and I thoroughly enjoyed the Cavatelli with lobster and mushrooms. Special dinner for 2 - $150
100/10..if I could give this Hidden Gem 10 STARS I would. We found out about Maple Leaf Tavern through a blog. A BIG THANK YOU to all the waiters / waitresses, GM, Manager, Chef Stephen & Sous Chefs for making our 1ST time dining experience at Maple Leaf Tavern a great one. The food was amazing. The atmosphere, amazing. The service AMAZING. I was craving a hamburger & they sure didnt fail me. The Burrata (Must to try).
I sometime dream about the food served here!
Amazing good, great ambiance and a beautiful historic place
We found our new neighbourhood go-to! Weve been meaning to try this place for a while now but never did for some reason. Im sorry we waited so long! Four of us popped in early Saturday night after a concert in the area and they were thankfully able to seat us before the nights reservations came. The wait staff were all so warm and welcoming and the vibe in the restaurant was cozy and nice. We were just going to have drinks and ended up ordering a few appetizers. The burrata was excellent but my favourite was mushrooms on top of a jammy egg. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Esther the GM (I think) came over to our table to welcome us personally and to thank us for coming in and taking a chance on them, especially after the struggle of being a restaurant in COVID. She was professional, so genuine and kind and made the experience even more wonderful. She then came back with dish of their brussels sprouts on the house! It was so good we ended up ordering another one! I cant recommend this place enough. We will definitely be back for a full meal soon.
I was invited to a tasting media event and let me tell you.. I was actually surprised how good and tasty the food is. My only problem is their decor of the restaurant. It looks too much like a bar but the food is more fine dine. I also had a chance to meet the chef and hes super friendly. I do love this place! I highly recommend it
I cant say enough about how great the staff are at this establishment. The food and cocktails are consistently excellent, but the experience was made special by the attentive and amazing staff. I also appreciated the complimentary burrata appetizer in celebration of my birthday. The Fogo Island Cod was melt in your mouth delicious and cooked to perfection.
Great food and staff were incredible!
