418 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 2G7, Canada
No-frills nook, dishing up casual Indian-influenced Cantonese fare, plus a late-night menu.
Fast and friendly service and one of the best late night Chinese and Hakka spots downtown, portions are large and very reasonably priced
I ordered take out Sunday evening. Cantonese noodles were great. Beef broccoli tasted ok but had too much ginger.
I had went into the restaurant to personally order the sweet & sour chicken balls which i asked specifically for chicken fried rice. When I arrive back at my place. I got the sweet & sour chicken but just fried rice. There was no pieces of chicken inside the fried rice. The order cost $20. Where it is normally $12.50 for the order. I feel totally ripped off. Too bad since I used to like going to this restaurant but I will be going to the neighboring restaurants for now on.
Best Hakka Restaurant in GTA and service faster than McD! Don’t let the reviews or the atmosphere fool you. I went back after years and the Hakka food still blows my mind. The deep fried fish with Chilli or Manchurian sauce is to die for!! This place is best kept secret 🤫
Ive been here twice , and both times were great. I got the veggie hakka noodles and general tso chicken. Everything was hot and fresh , flavourful . So far great experience, i came late in the night and everything was still made nicely.
I had an amazing late-night dining experience at Canton Chilli on Spadina Avenue in Toronto with a group of friends last night around 2 AM. The restaurant was bustling and packed, but we were pleasantly surprised that the food came out incredibly fast, with no more than a 10-minute wait. The dishes were an absolute delight - each one bursting with flavor. The noodles were perfectly cooked, and the beef dishes were a real highlight. We also appreciated the good variety of Hakka food on the menu, offering a unique and flavorful twist to our meal. The servers at Canton Chilli were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, making us feel right at home. We were seated in a private area at the back since we required a table for eight people, and this added to the overall comfort of our dining experience. I can't wait to go back to Canton Chilli, especially for late-night eats. The combination of delicious food, friendly service, and cozy ambiance make it the perfect spot for a late-night hangout with friends. If you're looking for delectable Hakka cuisine and a welcoming atmosphere, Canton Chilli on Spadina Avenue is definitely the place to be.
Quick service. Place is clean and nice. Tables are spaced far enough from each other to give groups privacy. Food is quite good and quantity is decent. Value for money. The cuisine is spicy and the range of dishes is pretty good too.
Great late night spot for classic Cantonese favourites. If you have guests the family meals are a great deal and the food has always come fresh and hot via UberEats. A true marker of a good Chinese restaurant, the Chicken Balls are pretty equal in terms of meat vs. dough filling, and they give you a good amount of condiments (soy sauce, plum sauce, hot sauce). The Shanghai Noodles and Beef and Broccoli are also fantastic in terms of portion size, flavour and amount of meat and the healthier options (I’m talking chop suey and their proteins with mixed vegetables in a light garlic sauce) are also amazing. Must try.
I ordered on Uber eats, I ordered the sweet and sour chicken on rice. Honestly discusting, my chicken didnt have batter on it and it was really bad quality. Worst meal i have had in Toronto, hands down.
The food is tremendous and always large portions.Great service as well
goated
Takeout chilli chicken was scrumptious 10/10 It came out in 5 mins 10/10 I paid cash and was short 30 cents, boss man said its all good. 10/10 100% worth the price, service was impeccable, 10/10 would come again. Food : 5/5 |
Great customer service
I remember years ago when this property used to be the Lucky Dragon Restaurant, which was run by Mr. Wong and his son. It was a great place! Canton Chili has been operating here for many years now, and I used to come to this place all the time. However, I stopped coming here for a few years and have only recently started coming back. Unfortunately, I remember why I stopped coming here in the first place. The food was never the issue; they have awesome hot and sour soup with seafood, Chinese food infused with Hakka, and some of the best curry dishes in Chinatown. The problem is the customer service, or rather the lack of it. One of the front-of-house guys is good; he is quiet and does a great job. However, there are two other guys who are constantly yelling at customers, either on the phone or in the restaurant. Honestly, it is sad because I will really miss the food from here
Love this spot, always a must when you visit downtown. The service is always friendly and quick. You can also order half portions, which is a great option Food : 5/5
Best Chinese food in the city hands down , food is amazing, food comes out really fast , service is great . Definitely my go-to
THERE WAS A COCKROACH THAT CRAWLED OFF MY DISH AND ON TO THE TABLE. Staff did nothing and gave me a full bill
Ordered in. Very obviously North Americanized. Meh.
Everything we ordered was delicious
Good food, good loction, cant go wrong if you need a late bite to eat after a event.
MY GO TO LATE NIGHT SPOT! I m currently in my third year of uni and this restaurant is still my go to when i m craving food late at night. The vibes are here and it s very convenient that it s open so late as well. Food comes out of within 10 minutes and is always hot and delicious. I would totally recommend!
Great place if your downtown and want Chinese food. I love the house fried rice, spicy shrimp and the fried chicken wings. Great service and never actually to busy in the evenings.
Consistently good Hakka food at Canton Chilli. Their chilli chicken, beef with broccoli, Hunan beef and house fried rice are all very good. The calamari isnt as good now as it used to be, but maybe it was just an off day. Theres usually a wait, though, as all of the staff is in the back and theres no bell etc... to notify them that theres a customer in the store.
Hands down my favorite 2am restaurant. I always get the family special and they are so generous with the portions. It can honestly feed 2 people for a few days!
3am Chinese food !! You can t go wrong with this place at 3am
Perfect all food perfect. I definitely recommend it
I think they ran out of sauce
Employees are rude
Best to skip this place. Caters to university students , large quantities but TASTELESS. We have had much better Hakka . This one lacks flavour and the spices one finds in Hakka ( definitely not an indian hakka restaurant)
Best Sweet and Sour Fish I ve ever had. Picture Perfect and fresh. Hats off to the chefs.
Food was delicious, and quick; service was great as well, would definitely recommend this restaurant!
Yes. Its two star food. Yes. Its tiny and busy all the time. And yes. I love it. This place treats me well when I am hammered and I cant pronounce my order right. Dude knows whats up. I respect that. You want dirty late night drunken trauma food? This is the place. This is the PLACE.
Loved the place, great food and best atmosphere
I dined in with a table of 3 on Thursday night. On Friday night I started feeling sick and nauseous and was non stop vomiting. I went to the doctor and they said I have food poisoning. I messaged my other friends and they also had the same symptoms. The food taste good but something we ate that night gave us food poisoning. It is now Sunday and I haven t ate anything since. I don t wish food poisoning on anyone :(
Raymond customer service was amazing , food was great he served all 10 of us
LAte night eats. Chillie chicken and Egg fried rice!!
Perfect on Spadina and unique.. Love the Chili Chicken
Great food, terrible service
Garbage disgusting food
They welcome us like family, always giving us free drinks. food is incredible and they have the best fried chicken if you like spicy order it spicy it s delicious.
Good cheap and fast
Literal garbage
Great food and quick service
Excellent Chinese food, all the usual/typical food items are here but with a little kick. Open till late of course.
One of my family members used to work in the area and he used to come here all the time and you would always order the crispy spicy beef. Recently he took me there but it wasnt very nice when we ordered the same thing its lost its crispiness. Other than that the food is delicious especially the general tso chicken
The person who served was so rude
You get different service depending on who s working that night. There s one amazing worker who always gets the customizations perfect and never gives me an issue with them. Other workers take a little more effort to get them to add your customizations to the order, and others just flat out deny you. The food is delicious, portion sizes are great and pricing is very fair, however I wish the service was just a bit more consistent.
They were really nice, patient and kind. The food didn t take long, and I was absolutely delicious
Ordered take out from here for the first time while visiting a friend and we were all really pleased with the food!!
Gave me the wrong order and lied saying that the Uber Eats driver messed it up lol
Avoid!! The waiter made a mistake in the order Food is simple and bad
Server auto tips you 13% on card machine. Food is not authentic Cantonese. Old meat used (that they cant sell). And why is there zucchini in my lo mein. Asks for cash when paying. Operators in wrong profession.
The food could taste better specially naming Hakka and Indian Chinese my expectations were high. I ordered a mixed chicken and shrimp fried rice wherein the taste was not the best and the shrimp was just boiled not sautéed which would definitely add more flavour. Hope they implement customer feedback
Amazing authentic food, excellent and fast service
This is our to go night time eats spot however the last time we were there we noticed that they charge tip on your bill in small letters than the machine asks you to tip. Please pay attention to your bills. Dont tip. The restaurant charges you 15% gratuity without telling you
Expensive food without flavor I wouldnt go again
My first time trying cantonese cuisine and it was really good! Their flavours were authentic and service was great. We got our food in less than 20 mins.. this place also remains open until late so if you re tired of eating burgers/pizza then this is a better option!! I tried the manchurian style rice and there was nothing to complain about it.
Received very bad customer service Starting from the waiter to the cook. Everyone was rude and they didnt care about the basic etiquettes. On the top, they added 13% gratuity tip in the cheque and in the payment machine there was option to add tip there again.
Meh!
unprofessional staff
The food was good, but some of the food items we ordered came out warm and not hot. Which is weird as we arrived 5 so an hour after opening. What we loved general Tao chicken very good, chicken fried rice was good but warm not hot. Chicken balls good, but they toss the sauce in it so next time I would tell them to bring the sauce on the side. Crispy beef was ok. Cantonese chow mein was good. Fried calamari were good. We ordered the spicy shrimps but it was not spicy at all. Wouldn t order again. Pork spring rolls for me was just ok, they were hot and fresh. Everyone else with me did enjoy them. My brother had the wonton soup, he said the wonton were cold the broth was just warm. Service was good and everything did come out fairly quickly.
Foods are just so bland Especially the noodles
Worst service
Hidden gem, portions are extremely fair. Be warned their spicy is indeed quite spicy.
As I sat down, the waiter told me I needed to order immediately. I didn t even have a menu, asked them for a menu, didn t even get a chance to read it because he waited impatiently at my table side. Ordered beef noodles and chilli chicken. Both were recommended and unfortunately both were extremely mediocre. They plopped them down on my table within 2 minutes of ordering, so they certainly weren t prepared to order. the noodles were all over cooked and burnt, the meat was questionable (whatever I could taste of it through the gloopy sauce). Honestly, save your money for sizzler kebab across the street or simply don t eat instead. This was me giving them a second chance, and I can confidently say they will not be getting a third. Not to mention, the cost for whatever the f it was they ended up bringing me was ridiculous. No chance I d ever recommend this spot
Great place for delicious late night Chinese food! The food is served fast and is perfectly cooked and prepared. The chili sauce and chili oil make the food spicy. It s busy on the weekends but it s worth the experience!
3.5/5
Good food, good portions, not good that they charge the tip on the total of the bill and then if you pay by cc they try to charge the tip again from that total, so , be careful and check your bill before you pay
Service is exceptional, we came 30 minutes to closing and they still served us and many after us very happily. The food came extremely quick, prices were reasonable and the place was well staffed even during closing. When we left they were extremely polite and showed gratitude for our business despite us coming in late. Would definitely recommend and return.
I recently dined at a this restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered calamari, spicy fried wings, and Szechuan-style fried rice, expecting a delightful meal. However, my excitement quickly turned to disappointment. The calamari wings portion was shockingly minuscule, leaving me feeling shortchanged. To make matters worse, the staffs behavior was rude and unhelpful. Instead of providing clear pricing information, they presented us with a misleading menu. Upon receiving the bill totaling $34 for what should have been a modest order, my frustration escalated. The most concerning part was their deceptive approach to pricing. They displayed one menu to lure us in but took our order from a different, higher-priced menu. When we confronted the staff about this glaring inconsistency, they brushed it off and explained that the menu we had seen was for small quantities, while the one they used for ordering was for larger portions. This dishonesty left a sour taste in my mouth. Its disheartening to encounter such practices that undermine customer trust. The blatant discrepancy between the advertised menu and the actual order, combined with the rudeness of the staff, paints a distressing picture of the restaurants integrity and commitment to quality service. I would caution others against dining here, as my experience was marred by not only the disappointingly scant portion of calamari but also the lack of transparency and respect for customer. Last but not least there is this one particular senior guy works there at the front desk. Hes the one who is luring us into all the s***. I was presented by the payment kiosk with the bill already added with the service charge which means tip. But then I saw on the screen option to select the tip. Imagine how pathetic this can be. If you are drunk, just let that one sober guy in our gang to take care of the order.
3.8 is too low a rating its at least a 4.0
Best crispy beef in the city
Good food, decent prices. Hospitable staff.
Hot and sour soup is so good I eat so much of it that I begin to vomit but I will tell you what brother, it tastes pretty good on the way back up too! Big portions, fantastic prices.
Avoid this place. Rude customer service. Food nowhere close to authentic and they ll scam you by putting gratuity on the bill right away without permission for a table less than 3 people!
I ordered food from this restaurant and I found many hairs on my beef fried rice. I called them and they said the next time If I order the same food they might give it free to me lol. That is how much they care about food safety lol.. not sure how hygiene is maintained there .. but enjoy your food lol
Great place for late night eats after a fun night. Tasty food!
Been coming here for years. Cant go wrong with anything on the menu no matter what time of day. Also the service is always good.
I came to this restaurant with friends tonight and I can confirm that they do indeed add gratuity without permission as the /total price/. What this means is that when he hands the device to you, you will be prompted for a tip by the machine. If youre not aware of whats going on, youre paying tip twice and the owner knows this. Based on the history of the reviews on this restaurant, this is a behaviour that the employees at this restaurant engage in regularly and without consequences. When the employee is confronted on this, theyll make an excuse that its the system. It is not. They knowingly entered the amount. It is up to you if you want to confront them. I forced them to remove the gratuity and warned my remaining friends about this practice, unfortunately one already got tricked by this.
5 Stars! Had a late night meal here and it was absolutely delicious. Portions were extremely generous and each dish was so fresh & hot. The service was also great, everyone was so friendly. Make sure try the Spicy Shrimp!
Great spot
A quick place to grab a bite with fast and efficient service. They are one of the few restaurants that serve food until very late.
I tasted some delicious Chinese food here, and had enough to take home with me!
nice spicy flavours but a bit pricey
Flavorful mapo tofu!
ok food but great hours, open till 4am or later some nights
Best place to get dry chili chicken, consistent everyone.
Very good
Great food portion and late night service. Servers were super friendly as well. Me and my friends got white rice switched to fried with no additional charges! Will def come again
Say less
Great food for late night dine in, cant say the same for takeout any other time.
Ive been getting delivery from this place for years and they have not disappointed once in terms of food. Our repeat order includes their beef ho fun with black bean and oyster sauce, the Manchurian eggplant, jumbo shrimp with spicy salt, spicy grouper, boneless chili chicken to name a few. Thank you Canton for always coming through with that late Chinese craving. November 2023 update: the food that we get at this place is still amazing. Ive experienced the built in tip that others have written about below with the no notice from the server here multiple times, including today. Its true, this happens here, I havent deducted points from the overall review though, because the food really hit the spot. Generally speaking, thats not cool. Today I believe the server gave themself 21% on top of tax for their gratuity for the three of us dining in.
Horrible place with shady owners who try to add auto gratuities without you noticing. Lemon chicken was one of the worst Ive ever had. Breading was soft and chicken was chewy. The poor rating at this restaurant speaks for itself.
Food is disgusting they gave my friend a filthy plate
I order delivery all the time from these guys. Great seafood, (try the calamari or black-bean mussels) and amazing chili sauce if you like spicy. I highly recommend for a late-night (or even early night) Chinese treat! Lovely people and thoughtful, conscientious, quick and very kind service.
One of the best restaurant for Chinese food. Food was fresh and hot. Great Taste
Okay so, this is exactly what I have been searching for since coming to this city. I had the sweet and sour chicken balls over egg fried rice. The chicken balls were huge and very juicy. The sauce was spot on. It was a blast from the past for me. I loved it. It reminds me of what you get on the east coast for this sort of dish. It was perfect to me. I will be going back. Happy to have found this and excited to try other dishes in future.
Very bad Kung Pao chicken. Who puts carrots, zucchini and baby corn in Kung Pao chicken? Where did they learn to make it? Le Cordon Eww? Also the spring roll seemed to be fried by a toddler. Soaking in oil and underfried. I dont know how this place has 4.5 rating on Uber Eats. Should be 0.45. Even that would be generous.
Do not order egg fried rice . Is sincerely horrible .
THE PERSON SITTING IN FRONT , THE CHINESE GUY HAS ALOT OF ATTITUDE AS IF HE IS GIVING FOOD FOR FREE AND I ORDERED VEG MANCHURIAN ON RICE , HE GAVE ME VEGETABLES ON RICE WITH RED SAUCE, LIKE DUDE YOU INTENTIONALLY WANT TO MESS WITH YOUR CUSTOMER , HOPE ONE DAY YOU GET OUT OF YOUR BUSINESS AND BEG ON STREET FOR EVERY SINGLE PENNY.
Just wow
Disgusting noodles , with no taste
I ordered the food through Uber eats, worst food ever the quality is poor, the chicken not fresh poorly packed I strongly recommend do not order food from here you will be disappointed
I ve only come at 4/5am, always a blessing
Very nice place to relax with friends
Cool place in Chinatown with fast service and tasty food!
The food was excellent highly recommended
Decently priced Chinese food. The spring rolls, fish, the Manchuriab fried rice and the general Tso chicken were really nice. The shrimp fried rice was bland though. The drinks menu is also very limited. Lastly, the customer service could be better. The restaurant was empty but the manager barely had time for us.
My fave late night chinese beside new ho. This one seems finer in quality. They have a past 9 p.m. menu for about 10 dollars a dish with steamed rice underneath the viand. Ahhh, yum!
Get the chili chicken its the best I can find in Toronto. Cant compare to scarbs or Markham but it does its job.
Eat here if you want food poisoning.
Worst service and worst food
I was told at 1:55 am - only open for pickup/takeout when Google said 3:45 am close. Very very disappointing.
Forced me to tip. Good taste but very bad service. They throw plates on the table and aren t polite.
Very good food. Szechuan beef is the best.
Definitely disappointed Cantonese chow mien is 1 of my favorite dishes EVER.....Ask anyone who knows me. Its cause you get pork,Chicken, seafood plus these awesome noodles you can eat by the mouthful. While standing outside this place waiting for my meal to be done I see 3 uber eats drivers pull up & out plus 1 pick up so I figure I hit the spot. Well dont I get home ( Nassau & Bathurst area) to find some noodles cooked some not. Some burned at the edges some not even some still raw Calamari tough & chewy only thing on point was the beef pork chicken shrimp & veggies. Sad not to have my meal fully cooked for $12.95+ tax as well as 20% tip
Service was so fast. Damn. Took them whole of 3 mins for them to get my food on table. Hakka chow mien was good. Need to try some more dishes. I was confused if it was my own dish cause how fast they brought it out lol.
Good place for late night Cantonese Chow Mein
I came this place special for chilli chicken I heard it has amazing taste but I got so less portion and I paid high price for it . Other restaurant giving it for 12$ with good portion and has no taste ! Fried rice not even have a salt in it . Tasteless ! even I got no fortune cookie in my take out . Worst experience
Great prices, great food
Ordered just 16$ worth of food. Paid 5$ tips for that. But the guy who usually works there at night times was so rude for not getting the tips in cash. Maybe the owner doesn t give the tips to them so they want tips in cash so badly. But that shouldn t be my problem. You just had to come twice in our table to serve us and we left the table as clean as we could so that you don t have to do much. You got 5$ just for bringing the food to our table. Worst customer service experience. Can t describe in words. But sometimes these horrible expressions affects our personal mood. Used to love their food so much before.Never going back there again.
Long wait time
Love this place
One of the best Chinese restaurants, taste good like most Chinese restos, nothing crazy
Late night food here always. Always craving canton. Literally every item on the menu is amazing. Portions are totally worth it too.
Good spot to dine in for classical canadian/American Chinese and Cantonese dishes. Big portions and good for the price. Not so great for take out/delivery - smaller portions and much more expensive.
General Tao chicken. Actually uses large pieces of chicken, not small ones plastered in batter. Popular place for late night dinner.
Worst food ever. Don t know what to say but seriously i just wasted my money and time there. Making fool to the customers. Unprofessional staffs. Never gonna recommend anyone.
This is the best food you can eat at 4am after clubbing. We still had to wait a bit (15-20 min) but it was worth it. Kinda cramped inside but we made do with two tables pushed together for our party of 15, and service was still quick and good. My fave thing was the Cantonese chow mein. Love them crunchy noodles
I went to this restaurant with my family for dinner and after two hours we felt so bad we were throwing up all night
Quick service, great taste and really easy on the pocket too !! 5/5
it was awful, the service was poor. hard to understand and rude attitude. rude attitude and forceful asked for tip.
Worst service ever! The server was very rude and mannerless. His service is very terrible. Bad experience with their service. Would not recommend anyone to go there. I would advice to change the server asap.
their szechuan chicken on rice (got w egg fried rice instead of plain) was better than a lot of other chinese restaurants in toronto, albeit a bit too salty in spots, and had really big portions w plenty of sauce. the general tao chicken was insanely sweet with no spice. if youre looking for spicy general tao this is not the place to get it. yeung chow fried rice was insanely bland and i couldnt eat more than a few bites. i would definitely get the szechuan chicken again but probably not any other items
Ordered with Uber eats. Arrived steaming hot. Tasted ok but I expected it to be more flavourful then it actually was. Portion also could of been larger for the price. Overall it was ok I guess but I expected more, like even fortune cookie wasn t included
Found the biggest bug in the hot and sour soup I ordered through Uber eats. Unsanitary and disgusting
If you dont want to have diarrhea, please dont order this shop. This shop not only has poor service but also provides you with extra protein supplements such as cockroaches, grasshoppers, etc. If you dont want to have diarrhea, please dont order this shop. This shop not only has a poor service attitude, but also gives you extra protein cockroaches, grasshoppers and so on.
Delicious! Fresh! Must try!
Its a late night Chinese food place. Go here when youre drunk or need late night food and dont wanna go to McDonalds. Dont tip. The restaurant charges you 15% gratuity without telling you. They give you a discount if you pay in cash by not charging it. Food is alright, I like their shrimp dishes. There are better options in the area for Chinese food. There are also worse options.
Today I got the chili chicken on Shanghai noodles, it was incredible fresh and affordable. The portion was so huge that I now intended on hibernating for the rest of the month.
Amazing food good quality fresh and alot of it
one of the best restaurants downtown 5/5
Excellent Hakka food!
Wanted just some cheap Americanized Chinese food so I ordered with low expectations but food was not good. Thought the sweet and sour chicken would come fried as it is in most places and how that dish is normally presented. Chicken wasn t fried but was just cooked pieces of chicken. The Shanghai noodles had a horrible flour smell and was very bland and the shrimp in it tasted very off. Lost my appetite after
Good food. Fast in making everything. Great spring rolls
Late night eats. Very fast food. Stir fry veg and chicken with green beans. Very tasty...will be back.
This is my late night spot, food is on point and staff is always friendly
Very good, excellent service.
Are the best, best cantonese food in Toronto!
Quality has gone down. Not very great.
