overall, the experience in this restaurant is the most terrible and lame. 1.the dumping ordered by a friend of mine is even raw outside. 2. thefood is highly overpriced, the quality and quantity do not deserve the price. The dumpling wrappers look very neat, exactly like the ones sold in the supermarket. I guess they were bought from the supermarket as frozen ones. And they sold for 12 dollars for one item. My dad lived in Toronto for about 15 years and every time I flew out there to visit him, the one demand I made of him and my stepmother was that we go to Mothers Dumplings. Absolutely amazing food, a constant flow of tea and just a fun little place to sit and eat in. Any time I talk to someone who mentions they are going to Toronto I make them promise me that they will go to Mothers Dumplings. As far as I am concerned, this is the best restaurant in Toronto, possibly all of Canada. I cannot tell you how many times Ive looked at flights to Toronto with the intent to stay one night and just eat my fill of dumplings. I will never love another dumpling place like I love Mothers Dumplings.

I had a dumpling meal, there were 6 big dumplings in total. When I was eating the last two, I found a two-inch long hair on the drawer. I called the landlady over, but the landlady was still unhappy. She told the waiter with a straight face that the table was free of charge. . Just admit your mistake and it will be over. How many dumplings should I pay you? How about I tell the health inspector?

I ordered takeout and was waiting in the waiting area near the entrance with the chairs. It was taking really long but I assumed the restaurant was just really busy. Nobody told me that my order was ready, and instead, they put it on a little table. I was not told to pick it up from the table, so I had no idea. I was waiting there for 10 more minutes and none of the waiters cared to let me know my order was ready.

A blast from the past. Good food, service, and thankfully not a chain restaurant.

Great food and great service. We had spring rolls to start, followed by the pork and chive dumplings which were full of flavour. Our main included shrimp fried rice and a chicken dish which I can t remember the name of but everything was delicious. Will definitely be back

First the positives - this restaurant was quite clean for Chinese restaurant standards. The plates and utensils were clean, the floors not super grimy, and the bathroom was in decent condition. Service was also very good for Chinese restaurant standards. Staff were responsive and did not give any attitude, even though they were clearly very busy. Huge thumbs up for that. The food unfortunately was not quite up to standard. We ordered dumplings, a beef roll, and a noodle dish - all classic dishes. All three were mediocre. The flavours and textures were just not there.

Best dumplings I ve ever had!

Really disappointed with the food and service here. The pan-fried dumplings were terrible nothing like what they should be, and some were even undercooked. The steamed dumplings were hard, and the dough tasted like it had been sitting out for too long. The only decent thing was the boiled ones, and even those were just meh. Honestly, this place feels like it s serving low-quality food meant for ppl who have never had proper Chinese food. Any dumpling spot in Markham would be wayy better than this.

A pure foreigner s product. None of the meat fillings are seasoned to the right point. Chinese people must not come to dine here. What s even more disgusting is that the store also has a homemade plaque authorized by Michelin for 2022 and 2023.

My recent dining experience was completely unacceptable. After ordering fried rice, chicken, and dumplings, we received the chicken tso first and were made to wait an additional 30 minutes for the rice. Upon inquiring about the delay, the staff offered an inadequate explanation, stating that they only had one stove available that day. A reputable establishment like this should be more attentive to customer service and avoid providing unsatisfactory excuses for subpar service!

went to try this place out since its on the michelin guide and i was pretty disappointed :/ my bf and i had to try some dumplings since its in the name, so we ordered the pork and dill boiled dumplings as the guide recommended. while it wasnt bad, i thought both the dumpling wrapper and filling were nothing special. the bbq pork buns also didnt really impress me and you could find the same from any dim sum place. for me the best part of the meal was the jasmine tea

Very tasty and good prices with good service

Reported by the Michelin guide, various online sites and locals, I couldnt help but try the famous mothers ravioli... and my expectations were rewarded. All homemade (you can watch the chefs making the ravioli) with fresh, natural and excellent quality ingredients. Delicious spring rolls, spaghetti with prawns and vegetables equally but the best were the meat and vegetarian ravioli. Tap water (2l) for free. If you want they also sell them frozen to take home. Cash payments (US or CA dollars) are accepted. Very kind and friendly staff.

Used to love coming here whenever I missed the taste of home cooked dumplings and bao zi, but unfortunately they taste different now. Servers were all extremely nice though

I was surprised how bad it taste from those current visit. The crust of the chives pancake was very hard and oily. The worse was the steam pork and cabbage dumplings. The dough was so dry that it crack upon picking it up. The face was so hard that theres no chewyness texture. The filling inside looks so blended that I cant see anything between meat and vegetables. I can get better dumplings off any supermarket! I took my 5yo son there as this was the spot for decent dumplings when I was a university student. It was so much better back in the days....I really hope this was just an outlier. **correction - it was steam pork and radish dumplings we ordered.

Chinese restaurant mentioned by Michelin. lets be frank, the authenticity is absolute, we lived in China for 4 years and here clearly.... it feels like were in China. The food is honestly good without being great and the price is above average. The service is very Chinese. Go there for lunch, you wont be disappointed

They are famous for reason. Very kind and helpful workers to guide you through their menu and their unique ordering method. A simple vegetarian dumpling and spicy peanut was our order also bao, it was so filling and satisfactory. I love their chilli oil. A nice place to sit down with friends or family on a sunny afternoon or rainy evening and relax with good food.

Great noodles and dumplings, wish they provided more chili oil though. It wasn t on the table so we had to ask for it and it came in a very tiny plastic container.

This is not a dim sum restaurant, and doesnt pretend to be. As I read in previous reviews, the skins are too thin, though in fairness not as thick as I expected. I could have handled thick skins if the fillings were properly seasoned but alas they were bland and needed lots of vinegar and chili oil. I dropped my napkin on the floor and as I reached for it a wait staff walked by, took it away and promised to return with a fresh napkin. Alas he did not and I lived in fear of soy sauce stains. Good luck getting water or a second pot of tea. Although it was Saturday night the place was dead - and this was during the Toronto Film Festival. Save your money....

I had this on my list because of the bib gourmand recommendation. It was pretty good! The prices are more than I was expecting tbh. The pork and chive dumplings were the standout. The green onion pancake was very underwhelming and bland. It just tasted like fried flour. We had the dumpling soup (without actual dumplings) and that it was such a surprise how great it was! It s only $4 too.

The food here is top-notch, but don t expect a five-star ambiance it s more like cozy and simple. Definitely try the soups! They re delicious and might surprise anyone used to European flavors (in a good way, of course!). As for the dumplings, the selection is huge, and most of them are worth every bite.

Decent location for juicy dumplings.

Great dumplings. The pan fried ones are our favorite. The soup dumpling (Xiao long bao) is on the average side. Boiled dumplings are also good. Didnt have the opportunity to order non dumplings items - we were stuffed and the kitchen was closed by then.

Food is delicious, I preferred the steamed dumplings over the steamed buns, but everything was good. We are definitely coming back to try more dishes.

On the menu, Mothers Dumplings claimed to be best Chinese restaurant. This is tall order in a city diverse and mosaic as Toronto. One would expect to receive great service, testing food and positive atmosphere. My experience showed otherwise. While the food werent completely bad, the servers were borderline rude, waiting time was extremely long and serving quantities were awfully small. It is one of few places that I did not feel comfortable leaving a tip. It is definitely a place that I would not visit again nor would I recommend.

I know that this place is an institution and has a history. The decor is charming, reminiscent of old Chinese restaurants. The staff are lovely and helpful. However, the food isnt traditional and seems tailored to a Canadian palate rather than a Chinese one. Its not my preference.

I visited this popular Michelin star restaurant for their dumplings. They give complimentary jasmine tea which I didn t like much. I ordered 6-pieces of steamed dumplings : 1. B3 (Shrimp, Eggs and Chives) 2. B4 (Pork and Chives) 3. B8 (Bak Choi, Mushroom and Tofu) => My favourite and it s vegetarian 4. D3 (Green onion pancake) => Okayish I will come again for B8. The dumplings were super hot and quite delicious. Make sure to dip the dumplings with the mixture of vinegar and soy sauce. They do accept the debit card. Service staff is super friendly. Vegetarian options: B8. Bok Choi, Mushrooms and Tofu steamed dumplings

They accept debit which is why we ate here.. saw that they have many awards but was honestly underwhelmed, the dumplings were okay but not remarkable. For 2 people we spent $70, price range around $12-15 per order

Dumpling was ok but too expensive (over priced). The service was not good at all, the lady was somewhat rude saying. The response of we are very busy is not acceptable. If that was the case then hire more server, it is not the customer s fault. Definitely NOT recommended, there are many good Chinese food/dumpling restaurants in Toronto with reasonable prices.

A place to deceive stupid foreigners. The dumpling wrappers are thicker than the walls of the Great Wall. The skin is filled with oil and a tasteless filling. I can t even make shredded kelp salad, it smells like detergent.

Everything we had was bad. The saltiest general tsao chicken Ive ever had and the chicken was so dry inside, and had a distasteful texture. The noodles had no flavour whatsoever. If youve never tried Chinese food it may be a good place for you to try but if youre looking for delicious Chinese food that is not catered towards Western demographic (as we were the only POC sitting inside the restaurant) dont come here. Disclaimer: I m Chinese and I ve been eating Chinese food all my life. This was a disgrace to my Chinese food and culture. I m sure the food tasted good in the past as shown in the Google and Yelp photos taken many years ago, but my friends and I who came here recently can attest that our recent visit left us with a sour taste.

Very good place to eat on the go and not too expensive for Toronto (three dishes for $48 taxes and tips included). The dumplings are delicious and the service pleasant.

We got to Mother s Dumplings on a Tuesday right when they opened and were seated right away. Even though we were the first to order the food came out a little slower than I expected. It looked like there were only two people helping out. That said the staff was friendly and did their best waiting in the tables as more people arrived. When we left about an hour later all the tables were occupied and there were a few groups waiting to be seated. We wanted to get a a few things that were different and ended up getting the Potato Salad, Boiled Pork and Chives Dumplings, Lamb Shiu Mai, and the Beef Onion Roll. We really enjoyed the Beef Onion Roll and the wrap was crispy and packed a lot of flavor. We also liked the Potato Salad, which was really different than the other julienne potatoes you would find at other Chinese restaurants. Instead of a vinegar base they used Kimchi Juice. The Lamb Shui Mai was interesting, but I prefer the original with pork filling. The lamb tasted good, but there wasn t the explosion of flavors that you would get with the pork variety. Lastly, we wanted to like the dumplings more, but we thought that they were similar to other dumplings that you can find in the area. That s not to say they were bad, but with the Michelin label we expected more. Overall, we had a really enjoyable experience and we will definitely come back for other things we didn t get to try.

Went back a second time, about 18 months apart, and both times our food was undercooked / frozen in the middle. Each time the service was awful and they were rude / slow. There are so many amazing restaurants in the area, go anywhere else.

The food was really mediocre at best. No flavor, no a hint of spice. I was excited for dumplings but it may be my worst chinese experience to date. Clean, good service and I have no complaints around anything other than the watered down flavor of the Food.. makes me skeptical of the other 5 star reviews.

Food was average, definitely cannot live up to their claim of Michelin recommended restaurant. Dumpling, scallion pancake and beef rolls were disappointing. Seafood noodle soup was tasteless as I suspect they used water instead of a broth soup base. Atmosphere was fine. The tip of Sriracha chili bottle was not cleaned and I had to wipe the dried chilli stain off. The vinegar bottle was leaking and created a mess on the table and we had to ask to replace another bottle. Overall it was not great.

A quick stop in for lunch downtown was met with delicious food. Greeted and seated and quick fashion, or order was placed quickly and we were offered support if we had any questions. Plenty of tasty options on the menu and we only scratched the surface of the delicious flavours. Enjoyed buns, steamed dumplings, and fried. All were full of flavour and you could taste the freshness. If you ventured to the back of the restaurant you could also check out the care that is put into the hand making of the dumplings. Definitely hoping an opportunity to visit again presents itself in the near future as theres plenty of more were hoping to try. Overall it was a good experience. The staff were friendly and we sat in an area where we could see the chefs make the dumplings. The dumplings were on the blander side and so I used a lot of vinegar/soy sauce to accommodate. This could be a good thing for those who are watching their sodium intake. The only thing that stood out a little was the soup dumplings, but other than that it was good dumplings but nothing to rave about.

My wife and I have been going to Mother s Dumplings for the last 17 years, when they were a small place on Huron St. The food tastes just as good as it did then. We are vegetarians and our favorites here are B2 (Melon, Tofu, noodles), B8 (Bakchoi, mushroom, Tofu), D2 (Green onion pancake) and F2 (Da-Lu noodle soup - vegetarian). It s our definition of comfort food. Our 11 year daughter absolutely loves it too. A place we love to go and eat together as a family.

Maybe the best dumplings in Toronto. Located in Spadina, this is a real establishment. We came on a Saturday evening with no reservations, so we had to wait a long time for a table and after ordering for the food as well. But the wait was worth it! Starting with a complimentary tea, the wonton soup was great, the buns were amazing, and the steamed and fried dumplings were excellent. Pancake was also nice. Would skip on the noodles. General Tsos Chicken - Batter quickly got soggy but had a initial crisp, and wasnt too thick either. The chicken inside was well cooked and moist, but the sauce was overly vinegary and threw off the balance. Pork and Chives Steamed Dumplings - Wrapping was thin and inside was juicy and full of flavour. Pork, Shrimp and melon pan fried dumplings - The shrimp was bouncy and pork was juicy, with a pleasant crisp and slight oil fragrance
