We came here on a Saturday night close to midnight, so yeah they're open until late. We ordered the dinner for 3 people and it was more than enough for 4 people as it includes soup, 3 main courses, rice and spring rolls. The portions are huge, really good for sharing. Also they give you bottled water instead of tap water (I did not see this in the bill so I'm assuming it's complementary). Gratuity is automatically charged, so you don't get to choose how much tip you want to give and if you pay with cash they ask you if you want the change (*Gasps in Spanish... El descaro!) Overall this place is good and the food is tasty

Feb. 20, 2024 - uploaded new photos of my recent delivery order. Notice how squished the dishes are with most of the sauce squeezed into the bag. Tsk, the solution is simple - just package differently with an extra bag! Overall rating for New Ho King is a 3 star for a few reasons. Not gonna lie, food is consistent. Can I say that all dishes are delicious? Nope but they're good at what they're good at and their portions are huge. I have friends who will only order from them because it's their favourite place to go. Images shown here are from my most recent Uber delivery order. Restaurant is close to Spadina and College, near Kensington market. Bathrooms are in the basement so not wheelchair accessible. Place looks nice and a bit more modern. Review posted here is for a recent Uber delivery order but I've had their food several times now. Pro - the portions are huge so there was plenty of food to go around. The aforementioned friends were there so thus New Ho King was chosen as the food of choice. Con - New Ho King does a poor job of packaging your food for delivery and it has nothing to do with the delivery service. I don't have an issue with the tin containers and I appreciate the clear plastic bags that go over each dish. Again, portions are also great. What I have an issue with is that they stack all your dishes into only a few bundles. The sad dishes on the bottom are compressed to the point where all the sauce is now in the clear plastic bag. We had sauce drip all over our kitchen floor before we realized and got a plate to go under it. Considering I got fried rice and some drier dishes, the least you could have done was put them on the bottom! Here is a quick summary of some of the dishes we ordered. Cantonese fried noodle: lots of toppings over fried noodles that were decent but I'm convinced the oil has seen better days. Not too salty, tasted okay. Chicken and mushroom: overall flavour base is good (savoury, oyster sauce flavouring) but would have been a whole lot better probably if all the sauce hadn't been squeezed out and the chicken wasn't all compressed to a solid block. Keep in mind, the portions are huge so the sheer weight of the dishes on top was enough to flatten this dish. They didn't even put cardboard dividers in between the saucy dishes. You can see how compressed the chicken is and all the sauce that dripped out the side. *shakes head* New image added. New Ho King Fried rice: friends swear by it, tastes like standard Chinese fried rice to me. Mixed veggie dish with vermicelli: tastes decent, savoury, lighter in flavour, vermicelli was a solid block in the centre. Broccoli was very much al dente, not a heavy garlic flavour Pork Chop with Chef’s Special Sauce: flavour was good, sweet and savory but less tart than the standard sweet and sour pork. Large chunks of meat and fewer bones since this is with pork chop. Again, I'm convinced the oil used to fry this up has seen better days. It tasted okay but I could taste the oil wasn't fresh. Also, most of the sauce was in the bag. New image added. Would I order again? Well, I like my friends and the food is edible so I'll order it again but if I was getting it food for my family, I'd go with another place that serves better tasting food that isn't messy. This isn't the first time I've ordered from them and it happens EVERY time where the saucy dish is inevitably on the bottom. If they'd change how they package their deliveries so I can taste the food with the dish intact, my opinion might change but until then, it's a 'meh' for me.

Extremely delicious !! Very good service... Nice business hours... Good for groups... Just 2 observations... Put more attention how clean are the restrooms and be careful in the Bill... That show a gratuity fee but when you pay, the machine ask for tip ( another fee )... Then you could pay double tip. I'll recommend this restaurant as a really good place

Too much oil in the food, we use napkins to take out the excessive oil. Pork was uncooked, very hard to chew. They charge tip already even though you were not satisfied with the food and staff. Very much disappointed. Please don’t waste your money and time here.

Stepping into New Ho King, a renowned Chinese restaurant nestled on Spadina Avenue in Toronto, was like entering a gateway to an evening of culinary delight. Our group of four friends eagerly anticipated our Sunday dinner, arriving promptly at 7 PM. To our delight, the restaurant wasn't overly crowded, but there was a constant buzz of activity with takeout orders flying out the door. We were promptly seated at a table that seemed almost too large for our group, adorned with a Lazy Susan at its center. This thoughtful touch allowed us to effortlessly share our dishes, adding an interactive element to our dining experience. As we settled in, we couldn't help but admire the lively atmosphere and the wafting aroma of delectable Chinese cuisine. With menus in hand, we embarked on a gustatory adventure, selecting a diverse array of dishes that tempted our taste buds. The rice noodles with beef and soy sauce caught our attention, promising a harmonious blend of flavors. The fried rice with barbeque pork beckoned to those craving something savory, while the spicy, crispy beef ignited our palates with a tantalizing heat. We also ordered a delightful combination of tofu and mushrooms, succulent barbeque pork, and sizzling beef served on a hot plate. As the dishes began to arrive at our table, anticipation grew. The first bite of the rice noodles was like a burst of savory perfection, each strand coated in a rich, flavorful sauce. The tender barbeque pork nestled within the fragrant fried rice, creating a symphony of textures and tastes. The spicy, crispy beef danced on our tongues, leaving us craving more with each bite. The tofu and mushroom dish was a delightful vegetarian option, showcasing the chef's skill in creating a well-balanced medley of flavors. We couldn't help but indulge ourselves as the evening progressed. The food was so delicious that I found myself returning to the rice noodles and fried rice repeatedly, filling my bowl six to seven times. The quality of each dish was exceptional, a testament to the years of culinary expertise that New Ho King has honed. Glancing around the restaurant, I couldn't help but appreciate the diverse crowd. People from various backgrounds and cultures had come together, united by their love for the incredible cuisine offered by New Ho King. It was heartwarming to witness such a blend of humanity in one space, sharing smiles and enjoying the flavors that brought us all together. Throughout our dining experience, the service was attentive and efficient. Despite the restaurant's popularity, the staff made sure our food arrived promptly, ensuring we never had to wait long. Their dedication to providing excellent service was evident, making us feel welcomed and well taken care of throughout the evening. As our plates emptied and our laughter filled the air, we couldn't help but reflect on the memorable evening we had spent at New Ho King. This restaurant's continued success since the 1970s is no coincidence. It's a testament to their commitment to delivering outstanding Chinese cuisine and providing an inviting atmosphere that keeps customers coming back for more. Without a doubt, I will be returning to New Ho King for another exceptional dining experience. If you find yourself in Toronto and craving authentic and mouthwatering Chinese cuisine, I wholeheartedly recommend venturing to Spadina Avenue and immersing yourself in the delightful flavors of New Ho King.

I’m puzzled by the low rating of this restaurant since among the downtown Toronto Chinatown restaurants, I would say New Ho King is one of the most consistent when it comes to food quality/quantity and pricing. We’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years and the food we normally ordered still taste the same - flavourful, and servings are generous compared to other Chinatown restaurants. Everyone in this restaurant are very pleasant from the Manager (guy) to the servers and always say hi and thank you to customers. Not even once did we experienced rude service. This is also one of the few restaurants in Toronto that rewards cash discounting to customers - offers 10% off your bill if you pay cash. One time, they got 1 of our order wrong and was given automatically a discount in our bill without even asking for it. We’re a fan of their Ho King Special Sizzling Chili Chicken in Hot Pot (bone-in). Crispy and flavourful is how to best describe this dish. Tender marinated chicken fried until crispy with lots of spring onions makes this a delightful dish and something that you want to eat over and over again. Another fave is their Deep Fried Calamari with Spicy Salt. Squids are perfectly coated in a well-seasoned batter and flavoured with spice mixture. Very addictive and pairs well with rice/fried rice. I could go on and on about how wonderful their food is but if you haven’t tried this place maybe you should give it a chance if ever you’re in the Chinatown area. Bonus point - they’re open late or until the wee hours so good for late Chinese cravings.

I love coming here for comfort food. After a night of whatever you do at night this spot hits the spot. We shared orange duck, sweet + sour chicken, baby bok choy, beef with eggplant and chicken fried rice. Food portions are generous and taste is pretty consistent. I hadn’t been here in a while so I didn’t know what to expect. Overall it was exactly what I remember. Not the most hospitable people but, good food. Note: Late night menu is the best menu. ; )

One of my favourite spots to dine in for Chinese food - the portions are generous, dishes freshly made, with awesome flavour. Their crispy beef & gailan in garlic sauce are both delicious. The sad thing is that the delivery is not nearly as good as dine in 🥺

Classic Cantonese cuisine. Portions are large for the price. Taste is definitely authentic, but could be improved. The service might be a bit lacking, with the bill being handed to you if you have stayed a bit too long, or eat too slow. Lighting is on the dim side for atmosphere, with exposed brick walls. There is a 1st floor with tables that fit max 4 people and a floor 1.5 with large round tables fitting around 8 or so. Washroom in the basement is cramped, wet and smelly. All in all, authentic experience, with all its caveats for a reasonable price in Chinatown.

WARNING :Went here for a special occasion. My friend had a reservation for 7 of us. One of my friends bit into a fairly big METAL rotisserie PIN that was INSIDE the chicken ball. We all immediately lost our appetites. My friend showed the waitress (it still had chicken attached to it). They asked would you like us to take the chicken balls away?. They then brought us 7 cans of drinks as compensation and offered us only 15 percent off the meal. The manager never even came out to apologize. If it were me who bit into it Id have never paid for any of it. Shes shy and was traumatized afterwards. That could have caused major issues if she had swallowed a pin or chipped her tooth! Never ever coming back to this place for fear theyre trying to kill us.

February 22, 2024

I called and ordered fried rice and shrimps. I drove all the way from North York to here to pick up my food. I got to the store they don t have my food so I told the man how come I take them with an hour to get here how come my food is not ready they don t have the order I clearly ordered from the man on the phone and he just repeated me my order and I said OK yes that s my order but he says it s not there. I don t know what to do so I said OK no problem I can t re-order again and wait again another 20 minutes for my meal I left that store and went next-door to them and purchase delicious food. It s called Canton Chilli restaurant it s such a nice restaurant they are polite. Have manners catering to the customers and very polite and the food is delicious it s right beside her new Ho king. I would not recommend new Ho King. They don t have a good customer service. They will take your order then pretend that they did not take your order making come all the way beer waste your time and then tell you, so what we don t have your order maybe you can order again, so clearly they don t value their customers.. but the chill restaurant is really chill and they respect and valued customers

The reviews seem generously high from our experience. The orange duck was extremely overcooked. It was a dry chewy jerky like meat. The garlic box choy tadted ok, but it was just the whole baby boy choy un prepped and cooked as is. It was a little difficult to eat without cutting utensils. They didnt bring us water. They force a hefty gratuity on you. They charge fees for using cards.

We ordered the orange duck, fried rice, and bok choy. Duck was terrible and extremely overcooked. Bok choy was undercooked and hard to eat. Rice was good. Food came out quickly. Waitress didn t bring us water until halfway through the meal when I finally asked. They added 20% gratuity and another charge since we didn t pay in cash. Even without that it felt very overpriced. I wouldn t return.

February 22, 2024

I have not had food so bad in such a long time. Avoid this place at all costs, even if it means eating at a nearby fast food place late at night. We ordered the general tso chicken chow mein, orange chicken, beef fried rice and vegetables with fried tofu. The chicken was overcooked on both dishes, extremely artificial sweet tasting and lacked any depth. The chow mein did not have any vegetables, it was just dry, poorly sauced chicken and noodles. The vegetables we did order, were under seasoned, over cooked and cut into enormous chunks. The food was honestly so horrible. Do not waste your money here. FYI, there is a 75 cent - 99 cent charge for paying by cards. They also include gratuity in the receipt (so dont tip twice!).

Let me start by saying the food is fantastic and the prices very reasonable. My issue with this place along with many spots in China town is cleanliness. Why is everything so nasty? Like every surface is dirty. The bathrooms are atrocious. For years I believed this was a cultural thing but then I visited China town in Montreal and everything was meticulously clean in every restaurant. Heres a suggestion... Add a buck to every dish and hire somebody to clean. Clean the tables, the condiments, the washrooms (may as well add some paper towel / soap dispensers will your at it) floors, walls etc. Picture attached to demonstrate the median level of nastiness I experienced.

I recently dined at an outstanding Chinese restaurant that truly deserves a 5-star review. From the moment I stepped in, the ambiance was inviting, adorned with elegant decor that exuded a mix of modernity and traditional Chinese elements. The menu offered a delightful array of dishes, showcasing the chefs expertise in crafting authentic flavors. The Peking duck was a standout, with perfectly crispy skin and succulent meat, served with thin pancakes and a rich hoisin sauce. Each bite was a symphony of flavors that left a lasting impression. The staffs attentive and friendly service added to the overall dining experience. They were knowledgeable about the menu, providing helpful recommendations and ensuring that every aspect of our meal was enjoyable. The pace of service was impeccable, allowing us to savor each course without feeling rushed. Portion sizes were generous, offering great value for the quality of the food. The attention to detail in presentation reflected the chefs dedication to culinary excellence. The seafood dishes, such as the steamed fish with ginger and scallions, showcased the freshness of the ingredients. Moreover, the restaurant maintained a clean and hygienic environment, contributing to a sense of comfort and well-being. The attention to COVID-19 safety measures was particularly commendable, reassuring patrons about their health and safety. In conclusion, this Chinese restaurant provides a superb dining experience, blending exceptional cuisine, attentive service, and a welcoming atmosphere. It has earned its 5-star rating through a commitment to culinary excellence and a dedication to customer satisfaction. I highly recommend it for anyone seeking an unforgettable Chinese dining experience.

We LOVE New Ho King! My husband has been coming here since before we were together (over a decade ago) and we recently revisited and it is still the same deliciousness! New space but same great food. We brought our 2 kids and ordered the fried calamari, egg rolls, veggie c mein, veggie fried rice, fried chicken wings, hunan tofu (the best!!), and garlic Chinese broccoli. Everything was so amazing and fresh, and delicious and generous portions. The service was so fast my kids couldn t believe how fast the order came! The service was amazing. Everyone was sooo nice and friendly and attentive. We also noticed that the other patrons all seemed like regulars not surprising at all! It was such a great Friday night out. Can t even give this place a one star. The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Waiter snatched my credit card from my hand, looking at all of my credit card details and spoke to their customers in a condescending way. I know with coronavirus restrictions, their usual hours of op. have had to be temporarily adjusted, without any guidance on when theyll be able to go back to business as usual. So I cant really fault them for not updating their website and Google listing... but I give them full credit for having an exceptional staff and great customer service! ) *edit (April 2023): Google wants me to update my review for some reason-- This restaurant is still great. went in there last night after work. theyre actually open much later now.. until 5am. I ve been coming here ever since I lived downtown in the late 90s and early 2000 s. This past Saturday night, I decided it s time to make the long drive into Toronto to introduce my kids to New Ho King. My order always consists of spicy calamari, lemon chicken, rice noodles with beef in black bean sauce, and baby bok choy with garlic. This time we also added Shanghai noodles. There was 4 of us ad we had leftovers to take home. The food was absolutely delicious and a new generation of New Ho King eaters was born! My kids are still talking about the calamari and can t wait to go back. Taking off one star for the following: being seated at an awkwardly large table when it looked like there were smaller tables available in the upstairs section, waiter not remembering our order (he didn t write it down), the table not being set with chopsticks or hot chilli sauce (I had to take the sauce carousel from the empty table behind ours), and some of the staff was smoking right outside the main doors (it s nice that they held the door open for us, but we had to walk through their cigarette smoke to get in). I also noticed that gratuity is now automatically included in the bill. I asked about this change and was told that many late night visitors would often leave without tipping so they started including it on the bill. I used to work in the service industry and I can understand that it may suck to not get a tip, but the entire premise of the tip is that it is given as a bonus for good service. I ve never not given a tip, even if service wasn t the best, but the service now was pretty mediocre to what it used to be. Perhaps New Ho King could remind their staff that they still have to provide service that is actually worthy of the gratuity.

The food was really not good, it was not what I expected, but it was also no good quality: Noodles drowned in undefined sauce with one kind of tasteless vegetable and suspicious beef. The spiced broccoli was quite tasty, but difficult to eat. Service was not really friendly. Maybe he was, but he didn t like to communicate with his customers. Tips would be charged automatically on the bill. What I liked: they served tea instead of taped water, but never the less, I recommend to avoid this place.

Quantity over quality. Chicken was overcooked and did not taste fresh but at least the portions are big. Service was not very good either. If the restaurant staff reads this; get a new water filter we did not touch our waters because the water looked foggy and gross

I love this place. Been coming here since I was in my twenties. Foods great. I love the hot sauce and plum sauce they have in the bottles not those little packs. Only problem for me is sometimes the servers are not the nicest and when ordering ubereats they sometimes miss notes and don t pack the bottle sauces which ruins the meal for me. Overall, if notes are followed and even with a not so nice server .foods worth being somewhat mistreated lol.

*TERRIBLE SERVICE, FORCED TIP* Food is oily and subpar at best. We were sat on a sticky dirty table and we were told they are not sure what s good on the menu when asked for recommendations and they did not even bother to serve us tea with our order that is complimentary at this restaurant. Also, you are better off not using their washroom unless you can hold your breath for that long Needless to say, my friends and I will not be going back.

I have been going to New Ho King for over 20 years. I usually order the same thing and its usually never a disappointment. There was an issue with one of our dishes and the manager generously took the dis completed off the reciept and took 50% off the entire bill so I made sure we tipped 50% because they went over and above. Make sure you try the chicken in a hot pot, the Cantonese Crispy noodles! It never disappointments!

This restaurant is a mixed bag of good food, with horrible service. While some items on the menu need to be completely removed...Youre feeding humans, and it cannot be a hit or miss. You must be consistent with your food standards inclusive of preparation and presentation. It was even a shocker to hear one of the Servers say to me, that the Seafood Soup was no good...My goshhhh, that was part of some red for the night

When I asked the server for the bill he immediately handed me a debit/credit machine and the numbers didn t seem right so I asked if whether gratuity was included or not. Of course he wasn t honest and lied to us claiming there was no amount gratuity on top of our bill which resulted us paying 20% more. Took a couple tries for him to hand us the original bill which did say GRATUITY was added. We always give good tips when dining it, however we do not appreciate misleading and dishonest services. Overall food was actually really good, just gotta watch out for some of the after hour servers/workers they will try to finesse you

Ordered food from here for delivery. Got veggie and regular spring rolls. They were not labels and might as well have been the same. Also got the Pulled Pork Noodles, which were instant ramen covered in a clear sauce that was literally slime. The pulled pork on top was legit cheap cut up ham that was also slimy. I onky had a few bites and it gave me an upset stomach. Last item ordered was the Singapore Style Rice Noodles. Everything in it was over cooked and rubbery. The shrimp in it were dark red and you couldnt chew them. The only positive is that the portions are large, but it also made me feel bad to throw it away (so wasteful). I would strongly recommend avoiding this place.

Probably the worst Chinese food I ve ordered in a very long time. $60 on Uber eats gets you one soup, 2 egg rolls and two mains - everything I ordered was tasteless, dry, had no additional ingredients, for example general T chicken is just chicken, no veg, Singapore noodles were so dry it was like the chef emptied the curry powder tin egg rolls were basically empty I truly couldn t get over how brutal is was, and paying $12 in fees to Uber in order to eat garbage, not my best take out decision
