353 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 2G3, Canada
Chinese cuisine since 1997
This place takes only cash or debit. Lots of seating and had no problems getting a table right away on a Sunday evening. They served tea as well for the table. The BBQ pork fried rice was flavourful and I liked the texture of the rice. The rest of the food came a bit later. The chow mein was decent. I would have liked it to have a bit more flavour and found it a bit bland. The string beans were crispy and tasted good. We also had a beef dish, which didn’t have as much meat as we were expecting. That wasn’t so flavourful either. All in all, it’s a good amount of food for the price and the quality was fair.
New Sky Garden restaurant by Spadina and College is a local staple, established in Chinatown for decades. This review is based on a recent delivery order so no comments are made for in-person environment or customer service. I ordered a selection of dishes: Beef sauteed with ginger and green onions Crispy beef with sesame - by far our favorite. The beef is coated and fried with a slight hint of sweetness, topped with sesame seeds. 4/5 Noodles with chicken and vegetables - this is a little different from the usual fried noodle dish. The noodles didn't seem as crispy or fried as I'm used to which was okay for us because it seemed less oily and not as salty. It suited my palate but I can see it as possibly offputting for others who may be more familiar with the more fried version. 4/5 Grouper and tofu - a favorite in our home. No fuss, plenty of fish and tofu, not too oily or salty, easy to eat and quite comforting. 4/5 Chinese bok choy with garlic - again a simpler dish but so easy to eat with a nice hit or garlic 4/5 Steamed Chinese chicken dish with dates and goji berries - I would say this has great authentic taste, rich and very flavorful. The only downfall is that you dont get a lot of meat and have to pick through it because it is bone in chicken with pieces oddly chopped. 4/5 Ha gow/shrimp dumplings - an easy staple with plenty of shrimp. No complaints overall. Tastes as expected. 4/5 Would I give New Sky Garden another try? I would actually because I'd like to try a few more dishes to get a more well rounded experience. I was eating with others so had to order with their palates in mind. Portions were decent for the price paid. Overall, a pleasurable experience.
I totally recommend this place 🥹 food is so delicious! Today was second time I have been here and I am already planning to come back. Service is also very friendly and will help you very quickly with any inquiries. You have to try the Siu Mai, fried rice (the special or the chicken one my God are amazing) and ask for Tamarindo sauce on the side if you love the salad/sweet mix! And last but not least happy to find Inca Kola here 🇵🇪!!
Had b-day dinner in this restaurant. The lobster was pretty good. Fried rice and pork was tasty also. Price was not too high. Service was good. Food was satisfying.
Best deal in town for twin lobsters with garlic and ginger! $49 Canadian Great flavor and i like to spoon the sauce over my rice
Came here on June 8, 2024 based on a recommendation. Food is very good. We got 1. Spicy and sour soup: very good!!! Next time I want to add Wonton to it. You can customize many dishes. Just ask them. They have been in business for 30 years 2. Sizzling black pepper beef: this dish is okay. I would prefer more black pepper taste. Beef is super tender 3. Salt and pepper fried Pork chop: A+ !!!!! This is the star of the meal. Very tender, salty and quite spicy. Love it ! The best salt and pepper pork I have had. 4. Shanghai thick noodle (spicy): this is almost too spicy. lol. We requested spicy. Good portion. 5. Curry vermicelli : standard good Highly recommend this place.
Me and my wife ordered the house special fried rice. (Chicken shrimp pork mix) $15. The portion was HUGGGEE. We could only finish half of it. The staff are extra nice. Loved this place. Was recommended to us by an Uber eats delivery person. So glad I went in. Totally recommended.
This place is truly exceptional! The variety of Chinese dishes is impressive, and every bite is full of authentic, delicious flavors. What makes the experience even better is the wonderful staff they’re friendly, attentive, and make you feel right at home.
Good food
Been going there for ten years.Amazinf owners...waitresses a d food is always amazing and consistent...Mike and Katherone
Great pepper shrimps and Yeung chow fried rice. Could use a bit more protein in the rice but very tasty.
Decent Chinese food. Large portions!
Food is always fresh and tasty, old style Chinese cuisine, not many restaurant in Toronto, Markham will make those special dishes, price is reasonable . Salty fish with meat patties is really good. Not on menu you have to ask.
Waitors and service were so bad
Delicious food and great service. The crispy orange chicken is so good.
Friendly service. Foods are so tasty. We love it so much. We will come back soon
I will never go to this restaurant again. The waitress didn t have a lot of patience to the customers. The food is not so good.
The menu offers great selection of dishes. I enjoyed the combination of flavours. It is possible to make reservations
My favorite restaurant in the neighbourhood. I forgot the name so I spent 30 mins going to different restaurants until I found it again No credit. Cash or debit only
Good
Take ginger fries beef had hardly any extra sauce thus was Dry not even none to soak up with the rice i got ! Thus i will not be ordering there again when i had better other places . Dry and tasteless .
Excellent restaurant!!!
A great spot with a twist, they have a Peruvian / Latin menu which makes it so fun and interesting. Great classic dishes, awesome dim sum, dumplings and so much more. They do corkage and its become a favourite because the service is great, food delicious and unique menu items make its a must visit.
Wenny Server, she was great so helpful and kind. The food was awesome. We love to go again.
Authentic sea food and hong kong style kitchen. Going there for years. Still amazing as before
Super comfortable and delicious food I fell in love with the service
Delicious Peruvian chinese food ( Chifa)
We came here on a whim and the food was tasty and freshly prepared. We ordered the black pepper beef, salt and pepper squid and chow mein.
The food is really good !
The staff here is amazing. They make you feel welcome from the moment you step in, the service is great, and you feel at home immediately. The food is great, lots of variety I recommend it.
Their daily specials are quite good - taste good, good portion size, affordable ($12.99 + tax). Remember to bring cash.
The food is amazing!! My god its so good. If you can, try the Peruvian/Chinese fusion food
Prices are reasonable. Shrimp fried rice is top notch.
Yum
Food was ok but I got very disappointed and upset in the end when paying my bill. They asked me how much tip do I want to leave since I was paying through WeChat and I said 15%, I trusted them and let them calculate the full price in Yuan. Turns out they charged me extra dollars after converting to Yuan. Didn t realize it after I got home and recalculated the price by myself. This dishonest behaviour was very intolerable.
So my buddy and I came here for some late night eats and we ordered the schezuan style thick noodle chicken chow mein with a single lobster. We had some questions about the lobster and she brought out a live lobster AFTER we told her not to. And she only gave us a $3 discount from our $70 meal..should ve been 10% off but hey what can I say? When in Toronto, live like Toronto
Great food in a family run restaurant
Delicious
Great shrimp noodle and the oyster sauce beef was really good too. Service was excelente and quick. The place is a bit outdated but still nice
It s a good restaurant with delicious Chinese food. The restaurant is a bit packed.
This restaurant serves also Peruvian fusion with Chinese food which is simply extraordinary. It is called the chifa menu. I would come back every time I visit Toronto!
The food is ok, but quite small portions. The price is a bit higher than nearby chinese restaurants. The servers are not professional, they dont give bowls while we ordered soup. Food : 3/5
I love this place. I go in almost every Wednesday but some times Im not there for a few weeks. The smiling girl at the counter always remembers what I get. And if I ask for no msg, no peppers etc, its never an issue. Fresh, fast and delicious! Food
This restaurant not only prepares Chinese food but also cooks chifa: a Peruvian fusion with Chinese. It is magnificent! Highly recommended!
The waitress staff went out of their way to assist us with our wheelchair friend.
So happy to have found such a delicious restaurant!!! We constantly bring our friends here for chinese/peruvian food and they always rave how delicious it is! The staff are incredibly nice and friendly and make perfect recommendations when we cant decide on what we want to eat. We hope to bring more friends here so they can experience the yummy eats! Our favourite dishes are: Chaufa de Pollo, Chicaroon de Pollo, and Sopa Wonton.
Tasteful food good courteous service fair prices
I go there every weekend, the quality of the food, quickness and attentiveness of the staff is on point every single time.
Best Chinese I ve had in a while
Nice food, service good.
Feels like home
Best place for a crispy general tao
Delicious food
The absolute best!
There are not many options in china town for people in a wheel chair, this was the only place my friend could go to it has a really small step but he was able to get up it was really good 10/10 and we will be coming back again I wish more places were wheel chair friendly it breaks my heart to see not enough places are.
My family loves this place, and I have one pescatarian, and a vegan. Not always easy to please everyone. I love the Generals Tao chicken and the Cantonese chow mein. There fish dishes are always fresh. We lost a couple of our favourite places on Spadina after the pandemic, but friends recommended this place, and we have never not been happy with the food or the service. Friday nights are better than Saturdays, not sure if its whos in the kitchen, or the volume of customers. If you like a big , noisy, family restaurant, youll like New Sky. Vegetarian options: The tofu hot pot with mushrooms is great. Dietary restrictions: Just let them know of any restrictions, and they will do Thier best to accommodate your needs.
Always delicious!!!!!
a great restaurant in the heart of that offers genuine Chinatown Cantonese, though small but the dishes are tasty with fresh ingredients at really good prices, and wonderful and friendly staff.
I finally had a chance to try New Sky as it was recommended to me a while ago. I came around 10pm on a Friday and enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Something about this restaurant is very cozy and inviting. The food was delicious (loved the congee and soft crab) and the service was great! I recommend coming here , especially for late night eats. Just note that they only take cash or debit.
Service was impeccable but the spicy was a little bland for my taste
I highly recommend the Szechuan chicken with fried greens. The textures and flavours are great.
New sky has delicious food; specifically their Peruvian Chaufa menu. Service is quick and attentive however the restaurant could use a deep cleaning. The vents just above our table were full of dust.
Amazing restaurant. Highly recommend trying the Peruvian menu here! Quality of the food is top notch and portions are very generous!
my go-to chinese restaurant, consistently so good and the service is super friendly.
Everyone is very nice. The food is awesome delicious.
Food
Tasty food! Was here two days in a row! All the food was fresh, tasty and cooked real well. Crispy ginger beef, beef noodles and pineapple chicken were awesome. Had to come back the next day for some more noodles with chicken!
Good and honest food that I could eat every day. Friendly service; came in just before lunch rush. Had the Hunan dumplings and rice noodles w/ beef.
amazing scallop and tofu dish
It used to be the O.G spot but right now it has decreased in its popularity & quality. It s quite costly though.
I been to new sky restaurant a lot. And I always get the chow mein noodles with shirmp and sweet sour chicken. It was so good! But sometimes I don t find parking because it s very full!
Delicious dishes, white rice too chewy for me.
Ive been here before... and Ive brought friends that havent tried this place.... they loved it! Fantastic food and friendly staff
If you are looking for the Peruvian option, you must ask for the menu. Food is average, I ve heard that it has gone down in quality as in the past was better. Recommend the navo, chicharrón de pollo. Bathrooms are downstairs. Food- 4/5 Customer Service- 4/5 Bathrooms Cleanliness- 4/5 Atmosphere 4.5/5
Traditional Cantonese seafood restaurant. I very much enjoyed the double lobster. Everything that comes off the wok is worth trying here.
The service is good and fast, the food is delicious
It s late and you are hungry, your friend is craving Chinese food but you feel like having Peruvian food, here s is the place for you. Mini can help you choose some great dishes to chow down on. Food is good enough for you to come back for more. Quick service, good food. The bathrooms are scary tho so maybe try to hold it if you can but if you must go, you should go.
Great place for meeting with a large group of friends.
Every time I request something, I have to repeat it many times. Dishes came out late, I had to remind multiple times. The food is not excellent.
Delicious soft octopus balls and superb mixed platters of seafood of every variety, quiet and superb service. Worth a trip just to visit it.
A busy yummy restaurant, food is a little salty to my taste, tho.
Good selection of Peruvian Chinese dishes with big portions with reasonable price. They also serve Inca Cola.
Nothing s better than this
New Sky Restaurant offers a cozy ambience and a diverse menu with creative dishes. Presentation is impeccable, but execution and service can be inconsistent. With refinement, it has the potential to be a standout dining destination.
Amazing sea food. One of the best on China town strip °°°UPDATE°°° I feel like the food quality went down a bit. My favorite items were lacking flavor and...youll be shocked-salt!!! very blend. Crispy noodles chicken was not salty, very little sauce and lacking smoky flavor of wok.Chicken I learned to make more tasty. Chicken fried rice was a big dissapointment. Little to no salt, lacking soy sauce and flavor in general. I never thought i would complain about lack of salt in chineese food :))
Food was outstanding. Service was friendly and prompt.
First time here, and the food was delicious!
Great authentic tastes. Fast and friendly staff with great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Mediocre food but price is high. Disappointed with our visit based on the good reviews. We ordered Lobster with Ginger-onion style, sizzling beef w/ black sauce, FishFilet Shimmered in spicy broth, Fried Shrimp w/ hot salt and pepper, Szechuan Chicken. Need to bring cash to pay. Will not visit again given so many choices in Toronto.
Ive been ordering takeout from this place for years so I just wanted to give them a shoutout. They also held me down throughout COVID lockdowns, and because theyre open until late, it became a little tradition for me to order from them every time Id get back from the airport. Their food is good given the relatively affordable prices (for Downtown Toronto, anyway!), and my orders almost always come hot and fresh. They mostly serve Cantonese and Canadian-Chinese dishes here. This isnt some high-end, fine dining restaurant - they are a small Chinese takeaway business - but theyre reliable and consistently tasty. If Im ever craving takeout, this place is always at the top of my list! Thanks, New Sky.
Bad attitude
Vegetarian options: Egg fried rice was really nice and was a big portion Food
This is amazing. One of the few Peruvian Chinese places in Toronto. Although it s just the tip of the iceberg it gives you enough to search for more. Inka cola is stocked aswell. The staff are wonderful, they have fun and enjoy when you re enjoying. Definitely worth a try.
Best Chifa in Canada
ONE OF THE BEST CHINESE FOOD I VE EAT IN A WHILE ! Very surprise , they deserve 5 stars !! Good service and food is tasty and affordable Food
We went here after the first lockdown was lifted so it was quite busy. We never really intended to go but we were curious because it was swamp with customers and boy oh boy it didnt disappoint. We ordered some fried calamari, stir fried noodles, house special fried rice and the stir fried pea shoots. I would say it tasted authentic and you could taste the smokiness coming from stir frying using a gas stove. I have gone there one more time because their food is really addictive. Their service is not bad either and they are located at Spadina Avenue which can be easily be accessible by transit. If you are in downtown Toronto and you are craving for a Chinese food dont hesitate to try them Parking: Its difficult to get
My family and I have been going to this restaurant for years, its always a great time. Everything on the menu is the best so dont be afraid to explore and the employees are always friendly.
Been coming here for over a decade and everything we order is very tasty. Well worth the lining up outside this cramped and packed restaurant for the food alone.
Was still hungry after dinner, meat portion is extremely small
Amazing place to enjoy a taste of Peruvian- Chinese cousin -
Tastes good, very cheap fried rice, and big
Peruvian super chifa
Legit, one of, if not the best, Authentic Chinese restaurants in the city. 24/7-365. Very tasty, portions are huge, service is great, and it was $22 per person-tax and tip included, when we split the bill being a group of 10. I m a fan of Sky! Food
Amazing Chinese food! Got various dishes and shared with friends. My favourites would have to be the chow mein, lemon chicken and crispy beef. Restaurant was very busy and service was amazing. Will definitely be coming back!
Their Chinese food doesnt taste super awesome. Each size portion is miniscule. Moreover, only cash is accepted.
The food was very mid. The worst part is that it was expensive and the food portions were small. I would not recommend.
Due to the long waiting time for the order, the client disliked me
I came to the restaurant as a courier. I was told to wait 5 minutes, then they told me again 5 minutes. As a result, I waited for the order for about 40 minutes. The Staff did not listen to me. There were only 2 items in the order.
I was always told about this place, Ive lived in the area for years. Lets just say, I highly recommend. Its busy depending on what time you decide to go for dinner but the food is hot, steamy and fresh! Please check it out, you wont be disappointed!!
A chaufa and generally very good food, the closest thing to the Peruvian chifas here in Toronto.
A bit congested but food and service was great. I wish they has halal chinese food as well. Dietary restrictions: I wjsh they halal chinese food Wheelchair accessibility: The place is congested and understandably there were kots of customers, which made this place not very suitable for wheelchairs.
Delicious!
Peruvian chifa!!! Delicious and very good service. There is inka cola and all the classic dishes of Peruvian girls, and also the classics from here.
Barely any duck meat in this taro duck dish. Mostly taro pastes. Oil tasted stale. One of the worst dishes I tried ever. Came here only to try this dish after some online promotion on lil red book. They can use more duck meat and adjust the oil being used. Dish still look good and has nice crispy texture At least service was good and they seem to have other legit dishes but we didn t have time or capacity to try out.
Came to try the taro duck dish, very greasy and very little duck meat.
Wonderful place, the food quantity is worth the pay and even the quality if I m being honest. It s a small environment tho but that s not much of a problem
This is a great location for any Chinese or Chifa food enthusiast ( Vegetarians included). The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, the food is delicious and their working hours sure cater to most needs. If you in China Town Toronto and need a good option for a nice meal. This would be the place.
very good service and excellent food
Best food in town, come here every time we visit family in Toronto! So delicious
The general Tao chicken was so tough and old. I would strongly recommend that you don t make the expensive mistake of ordering it. On top of that the owner tried to double bill me for the take out garbage they call food. A horrible experience and a real waste of $25. The waitresses are nice. Ask for Tiger or Sharon. The general Tao chicken is in fit to eat. If I could give 0 stars I would!!! Then again there are no good Chinese restaurants in Toronto those days are gone! Totally and honestly yours Toronto resident who has witness the decline of Toronto since 1985
Very good in general, they have a menu in several languages, the staff is nice and friendly, the food is good and very generous.
I have read some bad reviews here, and I am sure not my experience at ALL. I did not try their traditional Chinese ones. But their Peruvian-Cantonese ones (Spanish menu). And let me tell you, the food was good! It really did not disappoint. It is the real fusion of the culture, you can only have that flavor if you are or lived a long time in Peru, which I found the cook did. Once they learn I came for those dishes, the waitress was so lovely! Even throwing some Spanish words. I had a lovely experience! They even had Inca Kola (national Peruvian soda). I can t talk about dishes outside the Peruvian-Cantonese fusion but service was very good too. Dishes were big and very good for the price. I bought Chi jau Kay and chicken Chaufa
This establishment was recommended by an acquaintance as a late-night destination to satisfy Chinese cuisine cravings. However, my personal experience did not align with the high praise I had heard. The offerings consisted of the usual array of heavily spiced and deep-fried dishes commonly found in Chinese restaurants of this style. The owners amiability and hospitality were noteworthy, and the service quality was commendable. Nonetheless, as someone who doesnt particularly favor Chinese cuisine, Im unlikely to revisit, especially considering the considerable distance from my place of residence. I have added some photos for you to see for yourself
Just disappointing. I only hope the tip went to the delivery driver and not the chefs or owners.
Best food and prices in the city
Had an amazing time with my family. Great food and customer service. Very big portions!
Great place nice staff.
Good news. Khethe jaan
I decided to reward myself for completing my first day back at MMA after a long time off. As I walked spadina I window shopped the nearby Chinese restaurant menus, Im hunting one dish today: Hot and Sour Soup. I see the picture appears to be the style of Hour and Sour I prefer, and the price is alright. I enter the restaurant, within five seconds a waitress notices me and greets me, ask for how many, and politely guides me to my table. Shes smiling, and its genuine, and shes not the only server with a good attitude, very friendly and respectful bunch of girls. I ask to see the difference in size between a medium and a large, she brings me the bowls to show me the size and confirms my order. First, Im brought a complimentary pot of green tea, I am a tea man, I do love green tea, and its a delicious brew. The Hot and Sour Soup arrives at my table, I couldnt be more pleased. The server is polite, and doesnt disturb my meal, but still makes sure Im well accommodated, The soup is phenomenal, ranks with my top 3 Hot and Sour Soups in the city. Perfect temperature when its brought out, perfect spice level, and my preferred thickness/texture. As Im finishing my soul, another waitress is nearby, I ask her for the bill, shes in a great mood too, and pretty as well, made my experience all the better. She brings me my bill, and I leave a tip, its well deserved, wish I had more to tip, truly. On my way out, the server who brought me my bill wishes me the strength to keep pushing in my life, Im not sure how she could tell I was going through difficult times, but she hit the nail on the head. You have no idea how much it meant to me in that moment, this restaurant should be proud to employ the fine women who make the atmosphere so friendly and welcoming. Beyond that its a very kind friendly place, literally books and toys for them on a small shelf on the wall, doesnt get in the way of anything, just available for them. I will be back, and I will be getting an extra large Hot and Sour Soup next time. Not the cheapest place, but not the most expensive Id put it at $15-50 per person depending on how much you order, Highly recommended Kid-friendliness: Very kid friendly, the owner likely has some of their own. Toys and books available against the wall on a small shelf for table use.
Very authentic, went with large group (11) accommodated immediately. Spring rolls very fresh as they were rolling them right beside our table. Fried Rice is incredible! Highly recommended!
Had a really good meal here with friends, food was great, service was really good and will definitely be returning.
Very very good the chicken general are amazing, all are perfect !
The waitress is very rude
Amazing food. I got general tso tofu and it was the lightest tofu Ive ever had and best sauce as well. Highly recommend it!
Best Chinese food in the city! Good luck getting a table on a weekend though, super busy!
Highly recommend.
Had lunch there today. Despite the exterior facade, the interior was relaxed and well appointed, and the menu did not disappoint. Ill be back.
Food was delicious with a Peruvian twist
I would advise checking your sweet and sour chicken meal and making sure it does not contain pork. I think the restaurant is being creative in that they add pork and literally three psc of chicken in the mix to save cost. It happens twice so far not acceptable
One of my favorite Chinese Hong Kong style restaurant in Toronto, portion is generous, taste is authentic, vibes is good. Food is hot enough, service is awesome. I am just loving it. I always like to try new dishes on everytime visit. Shrimp fried rice is my always favorite.
Food is great
My favorite Chinatown restaurant! Good food!
Delivery was quick and the food was hot . The double lobster dish was fantastic. Food
Our favorite Cantonese restaurant in Toronto, great selection of greens, meats, and fish dishes. It a go to day or night to satisfy the craving.
New Dky used to be the place to go for an authentic Peruvian Chifa experience. While the food is still good, its not what it used to be. Portions are much smaller, too. Still good, but....
I highly recommend the Shanghai noodles. The fried shrimp dumplings were amazing. Crispy and light.
Very good place for late night food. They have both Peruvian (Chaufa) and Chinese menu.
Very authentic tasting food and the atmosphere to match. Lamb Hotpot is a must must try.
So pleasantly impressed by their delicious dishes with a special Peruvian flavor. Highly recommended, without mentioning the affordable prices. By the way, there is cheap parking nearby.
reminds me of my trip to china in 2006
We tried this place after moments earlier leaving one we ve visited for 10 years after they moved and changed up the menu. In search of mushoo pork, this popped up in a google search. It did not disappoint. Our group tried 5 dishes and all were delicious. I think is my new favourite in Chinatown.
Ive been studying in Toronto for over three months now and I really miss the food from my hometown. So yesterday, my friends and I decided to go out and eat. The restaurant had a decent atmosphere, but the food was mediocre. The boiled beef dish was tasteless. And to top it off, when it was time to pay, the server rudely said to me in Cantonese, Minimum 10% tip. She spoke to me in Cantonese even though I was speaking to her in English, probably so that other people wouldnt understand. I wouldnt recommend eating there.
Worst experience ever
Had a great time here. The food came out really quick and was super yummy. Service was fine and decor was fine. Would go here again and recommend it. Its good for groups as well.
Great food, great prices, and great service.
One of my favourites restaurants in the city. The attention is always good and the food much better. Highly recommend
