Good price, decent portion. We went on the weekend morning. They have the combo special which is good. Decent portion and staffs are friendly and polite. There are parking lot beside it but I am not sure if it’s paid parking or free of charge as the signage is not very clear.
We went there for lunch and didn’t have to wait for a table. Excellent service. They gave each person small bowls without asking as the temperature of the congee is very hot. The congee on its own had great texture, just thick enough and wasn’t too salty.
Price is low and quality is good. It's Incredible. Its hard to find one like this in Toronto nowadays. Noodle plus congee bundle set for $11.99. The fried dumplings is very good. 8 big pieces for $6.99. I can't believe it when I see the price on the menu. And they are all very delicious. I'm very happy that I discover this place in Scarborough now. I really recommend this.
I by chance found and tried this place on Ubereats, then I kept coming back here several times, which means this place is good, or at least above average based on my preference. This place got approved by my husband who is a picky Cantonese eater that I know I can trust. Service was good and comfort for all of the times we got here, nothing to complain. Will be in my list of coming back! The Stir fried Beef Noodles are our all time favorite. I also like their Pan Fried Chive Dumplings, next time I’ll ask for extra crispy!!
Coincidence we cane across this place. All day congee available here. It is simple yet affordable without sacrificing on taste. They've got a good selection on congee combos with side dishes (I.e. noodles, rice noodles, fried dough) to compliment your congee. I ordered their pork liver congee with sweet fried bun. The portions were a lot and I overall enjoyed it!! J had their preserved egg with Shredded pork complimented with a side dish of BBQ pork rice noodles. No complaints, Simple, hearty, delicious, and affordable. Cash only!
You get what you pay. I rate based on my expectations for the price. Yes the service is non-existent but you can spend $10 and be full. Love the fried dumplings. Congee is nice too, turns a bit watery if it gets cold, so you gotta eat it fast when it is still hot.
Small place not many tables but the food was great, deal #1 congee & donuts $6.99, I think it's enough for 2 people but we ordered deal #2 as well fish congee & pork noodles, that was really good too. $20 for everything. I will eat here a few times per year.
This is an authentic family owned HK style congee place, We came here Sunday at noon, and got seated in 5min. Inside seatings are limited, so easily get lineup especially for groups >4. Foods here are high quality, freshly made, big portion, very reasonably priced, Ordered: Congee set with a deep fried dough 5/5 Hainan chicken rice 5/5 Bbq pork rice 4/5 Pan fried chives pork dumplings 5/5 Pan fried coconut sticky rice cake 4/5 The only complaint is they only have one lady doing service, cashier, clean up the table and deal with takeouts as well, so she is extremely busy, our foods took long time to come, I think they probably only have one person working in the kitchen as well. Other than that, great place for HK style cafe foods!
Kid-friendliness: Kids love the dumplings Wheelchair accessibility: Ground levels entrances (X2) Rear door easier to gain entry Food : 5/5 | Service
Ordered combo c (congee with preserved egg and shredded pork, and soya chow mein, $11.99) and curry beef brisket on rice ($10.99) for take out. The congee and chow mein is just ok. There wasnt a lot of protein in the city beef brisket but cant complain when its only $10.99. The last lady at the cash, I believe shes the owner was very friendly. Will come back if in the area.
Very bad attitude by the of the man staff. When I ask how long for prepare the food. He answer with very bad tone everything need to wait !
Cozy place to have a good bowl of congee & freshly made to order dough sticks. They do sell out of congee late in the day so arrive early. Great value Chinese place :)
Very reasonably priced, pork porridge + chive dumplings. Pig Run is outstanding!
I love this congee place!! Amazing food
Easy to order with the app.
A friend visiting from Vancouver recommended this restaurant. The food is really delicious and the price is very affordable I haven t had a meal at this price in a long time and I was very touched.
Friendly owner, food was delicious, I love that they are keeping the ingredients fresh and price low, hard to see these days for a restaurant. I was surprised by how good their fried dumpling are, even after a 40mins drive home, its not crispy anymore but still taste great. Its a very affordable small restaurant that I would recommend everyone to give it a try, worth driving 30mins for. Parking: some parking in the back, similar to a small plaza.
Local. Authentic. Great value!
Decent prices and good portions. I got the pan fried chives dumplings and theyre delicious! Rice noodle wrapped fried dough good portions.
The dumplings are great, highly reccomend. We also got the curry it was okay Prices are great Food : 5/5
I had a terrible experience at Oriental Congee. The food was awful, and I ended up with food poisoning. Unfortunately, my kids also got food poisoning after eating there. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
The ingredients are very fresh and the leek dumplings are so delicious! Very cost-effective, recommended for wall cracking!
Highest quality Cantonese food in a small low-key diner vibe. Incredible value. Family owned operated friendly folks.
Amazing combo lunch special deal! Very busy place, be prepared to wait to order, but food comes quickly once you do. Must pay for parking in the lot
Classic Chinese style breakfast! The food taste good. The price is unbelievably cheap. Food : 5/5
It s a little dirty, the food comes out very slowly so make sure you budget some time. The male server was quite rude. Food is good.
We went to this place for the first time since TikToker recommended it. We had to wait for 30 minutes to get our food (2 congees and 1 fried dough stick and 1 BBQ rice noodles.) The congee is so blend. Its water and added the toppings. The fried dough stick is fresh but no taste. As for rice noodles; you cant just add BBQ pork on top of the rice noodles and called it BBQ rice noodles. Its supposed to be inside the noodles. I can tell a lot of customers are very upset because they had to wait just as long. Not recommended at all.
The food tastes authentic. Though, I wish they would let people add on their own sauce like the way it is in Hong Kong!
The food is served slowly and the service atmosphere is OK.
Nice congee and fried noodles although average atmosphere
Always great food and service in this homey mom and pop restaurant. The food is delicious, and the prices are amazing. This place serves the neighborhood and is a hidden gem.
A hidden gem with excellent food and a very affordable price.
Paid parking outside if you want convenience or free park inside the garage. Simple dishes done well. Got the wrong bill, would have paid for almost double if we hadn t checked and asked. This happened on two separate occasions. The second time this happened, the waitress kept saying the bill was correct before realizing the mistake when we have never ordered that item. It s a shame because the food is good.
Great small congee shop. Prices are good and food is just as good.
Standard authentic simple Cantonese dishes. The best are the steamed or pan fried chive and pork dumplings, which I think is their specialty.
The price is popular and the quality of the product is above the standard.
We arrived at 11:50 and ordered a congee, cheung fun, and beef noodle. At 12:35 only the congee had arrived. The servers were of zero help and simply said the food was being prepared so we left. Terribly slow and inattentive service for what should be very quick food items. Would never return.
oil not fresh 2 tikes ate there went home tummy bloated and hiccup! Took 20mins to prepare dam chicken rice and it is white rice not oil yellow rice. All they need is to cut chicken and put on plate . SO SLOW.
The price/performance ratio is also very good. The fried dumplings taste really good. The porridge is very thick and not the kind of porridge water. I like the rice rolls. I can also try the golden cake. I haven t tried it yet. I will definitely go back next time. The service attitude of the sister at the front desk is also great. The two of us ate so much that we packed it up and took it all away. The total cost was only 50.
Food OK. However, we waited for more than 45mins which claimed to be 20mins to get one serving of congee and dumpling.
Good for frequent meals. Family style and pretty good overall.
Very good place to get congee my favourite dish to get is the pork congee with preserved eggs !!!!!! My father likes to get pork belly congee or pork congee with preserved eggs !!!!!! And deep fried dough fritters , bbq rice rolls , shrimp and meat dumplings with vegetables and vinegar sauce !!!!!!!!!!
Excellent in every way. Had chicken rice, Congee, and dumpling. Super yummy. Will definitely come back.
Love love love a humble and honest shop like Oriental Congee with affordable prices and friendly services. You can just feel that the owners sincerity and hard work that they put into running the restaurant, makes me appreciate it even more.
Great place to come for some cheap, authentic eats. House combos are great value and the food is cheaper/better than Congee Queen across the street (although congee queen has infinitely more menu items). It s a small family diner, so don t expect to get white glove service if you dine in as staff is usually overwhelmed. But for the quality/price, can t beat this neighbourhood gem. IYKYK.
I rates service low only because this is like a typical HK congee house. Food is delish, from congee combos to cheung fun to hoi nam chicken rice to beef with cheung fun and dumplings. We come here weekly almost
Poor attitude and zero customer service!
Takeout is too slow. Wait 45 minutes for one meal. Parking: Parking is inconvenient
Food was okay. Had to pay for on site parking
The oil is crispy, the porridge is hot enough, the food is delicious, and the service is friendly and good. Only the milk tea is not hot enough and the soda is not cold
Definitely recommend, great value for money and very tasty. We were a group of five and had a good meal, and the price was very affordable! recommend!
Always got takeout so cant comment on dine-in. The congee and other simple stir fry are consistent and pretty good. The prices are very reasonable which is why we keep coming back.
bad service and attitude, no patient at all
Today was the first time I tried this restaurant,And I am very happy I did,I ordered the Singapore noodles,And for the first time in a long time,I found a restaurant,That makes it soo delicious.I will be back.and they are very friendly.
Good quality and low price, it cures the Guangdong stomach
What a gem. This place is a must for those who loves congee and milk tea. Everything is made to order, milk tea is large portion and very Hong Kong tasting, reasonable prices, comfortable seating, parking can be challenging (free parking available indoor higher level) but it is worth it.
No frills eatery, congee is good.
Super cheap and delicious. Pretty good amount of beef considering how inexpensive it was.
Very old-fashioned taste and very clean. I go there often. I strongly recommend the fried leek dumplings. They are delicious. The golden cake is also delicious. The Ushikawa is also delicious and has a hot pot flavor.
Clean, friendly staff, cheap, delicious
Wow this place is good. We eat a lot of Chinese food, and the quality and value of the food here is hard to beat. The flat noodle with beef was delicious. The beef was very tender and not fatty. The steamed chicken was incredibly tender. The accompanying oil/ginger/green onion dip was delicious. The sliced fish congee was excellent. Fish was very fresh tasting. We ordered the fried donut with rice noodle on the outside. From the menu it showed it was plain but it came served with a sweet sauce on top. If you dont want it to have sauce on top, be sure to ask for it on the side. Free parking in the parkade on the second floor.
It s a restaurant that doesn t have good publicity, but the food is pretty good.
Great value for your money Cantonese congee and rice noodle restaurant that also services rice and noodle plate dishes. Be sure to order one of their three congee combos that either pairs with fried dough sticks or rice noodle rolls or fried noodles/dumplings. If youre super hungry, then add another a la carte rice noodle. Their rice noodle are east Canton style. Hainan Chicken rice portions are huge. Their dumplings are made in house and steamed to perfection. Service can be a bit slow as items are made to order and they serve many take out orders. Theres only one server who manages all the food and cashier duties. Weekday parking can be difficult as they share parking spaces with the medical building.
Poor attitude and feedback to customers complaint. Missing items on delivery and refuse to admitted mistakes and responsibility. Unacceptable service
Food and service was great! Prices were great with the portion. Look forward to coming back again!
Authentic, tried few congee. All good but what stood out was the soy sauce noodle.
a bit expensive
Good and cheap Chinese food just dont mind the atmosphere
Good for a quick bite.
A recent visit to Oriental Congee was tinged with surprise, and not of the pleasant variety. While the establishment is known for its diverse range of congee, my encounter was marred by a rather distressing billing experience. Without prior knowledge or explicit consent, I found an extra charge on my bill. Upon inquiring, it was casually brushed off as a tip. This abrupt and non-consensual inclusion of tips came across as not only unprofessional but also felt like an infringement of the patrons rights. Being charged extra without consent is disconcerting and creates a sense of mistrust. Transparency and open communication between the restaurant and its customers are crucial for a healthy dining experience. Unfortunately, on this particular occasion, Oriental Congee fell short of the mark. Such practices are a deterrent for customers and, despite the restaurants culinary offerings, this incident forces me to reconsider my patronage in the future. Customers should be aware of this practice before they choose to dine at Oriental Congee.
This is a no-frills spot for authentic Chinese food. I had the combo with bbq pork rice noodle rolls and congee with preserved egg and pork. As someone who loves her Asian breakfasts, I m so glad to have found this place!
People who are working there crying for tips. Very bad attitude by the staff. Very disappointed. Be more polite for the customers.
Decent chinese breakfast !!
Super delicious, love the food and the services highly recommend! Food
Pan fried dumplings were so tasty, they are must order food items Kid-friendliness: Waitress gave our son a room temperature water and fork without us asking. A considerable guesture Food : 5/5 |
Never again am I ordering from this place. The sweet and sour chicken was undercooked. The breading was no where near fried and felt jelly like. The chicken was still slimy.
Don t bother & never again. Waited over forty minutes for simple congee takeout with fried dough and soy noodles - what would take other places max 20. Not worth the wait.
Family run business with excellent quality congee, cheung fun rice noodles, and fried noodles. The food quality has been very consistent. Better quality and substantially better value (for above mentioned items) compared to Congee Queen across the street. We ve been here at least 10 times. Opens early. Closed on Tuesday s. Free parking in the multilevel lot. They take cash or debit.
The food here is absolutely fantastic. Wonderfully authentic and flavourful. Great value. Unfortunately, the service is pretty horrible. They re so disorganized. I love the food so much that I continue to try and find the right way to order take out but I m resigned to just having to wait. Whether ordering pick up by phone or through an app it ll always be late, especially on weekends.
Very good store
Overall was an authentic Chinese restaurant to have Chinese breakfast. The congee was seasoned but not too salty. The noodle roll was tender. Love the Deep-Fried Dough Fritters, it was crispy and fresh. The only thing I was not sure was the fish in the Lai Wan Style Congee. It was too fishy. Tip: there s free parking slot on 2/F nearby
First time to come here. A small congee shop. Food quality is an average, the milk tea is only warm. Price is very attractive subject to the current inflation. Only one lady is very busy to run around to serve the food. She doesnt even have time to clean the tables. If you are looking for cheap food and dont expect any service, here is a good choice.
A small Cantonese congee and rice roll restaurant, great selections of tasty congee with all the favourite Hong Kong style toppings, reasonable priced side dishes, with quick efficient service.
Great food and service. only cash or debit, no credit
The middle aged waitress, seems to be owner, gives best service whereas the young girl answers in her own slang when I speak Mandarin to order.
Would recommend this restaurant for takeout or dine in. The food is definitely worth its price! So delicious! I would recommend the combos. Any of the congee is good but I would go with the preserved egg. The fried dumplings are so stuffed, and the rice noodles are great!
There are several restaurants hiding behind the street corner, and this is one of them. We had the combo B which has congee and steamed rice noodle; they tasted OK but I could find better competitors. The Hainan chicken and honeycomb cake, however, was quite remarkable. Service was great. Im ashamed to say that I pass by this area often, but I have never found this store. For the first time, I tried the mushroom and meat porridge, egg rice rolls, Hainanese chicken, and golden cake. The first two feel that there is a lot of room for improvement. For example, the various ingredients in the porridge can be better integrated, and the rice rolls may be more refreshing and taste better. The Hainanese chicken tastes good, and the golden cake impressed me even more. There are very few Chinese restaurants making this kind of pastry nowadays. Maybe I should try it at an Indonesian restaurant?
Love this place for super homey comfort food and for a congee fix. Been a few times now and ordered multiple different congees, rice noodle roll and noodles which was all delicious. The chow mien even has wok hey, really tasty. Love visiting these restaurants and helping local.
Great congee but lacking service.
Good food for a good reasonable price!
My go to place for breakfast, cant beat the taste or price anywhere else
Taste OK
Great portions and great value
This morning I ordered food from your place for the first time on Uber Eats. Based on a review recommendation, I ordered preserved egg lean meat porridge, coriander beef rice rolls and fried rice noodles. All very good! Its a great place to have breakfast. I will try your noodles or rice next time.
As soon as I walked in and saw the parents-in-law eating there, I knew it was a very cost-effective restaurant. The dishes taste very good, especially the dry-fried beef river. As another person commented, the plate after finishing the dry-fried beef river is clean, which shows the skill. The beautiful lady boss is super friendly~
As their name implies Pro of the East. Quality delicious food for a reasonable price. Quick and friendly service. Highly recommend to all.
Nice place
Good restaurant service at 7am oclock in the morning almost everyday.
I usually order via uber eats, tasty food and affordable prices.
We were idiots and wanted to have congee on the hottest day of the year. We went early in the morning and even though we were the only customers, they were really busy with take out orders. The congees were good and flavorful and didn t turn watery like . I highly suggest the pork liver. It was perfect and it is very hard to get the perfect texture. The rice noodle was good too. We would definitely be back whenever we are in town again.
Good rice rolls and congee. If I stayed close by, Id go again.
My always Cheung Fun kitchen in town! Texture is just like the neighbor kitchen in China back home
Food tastes authentic, but service is poor.
I ordered their pork internal delicacies congee and the portions were great! Its filled with lots of meat and theyre cooked perfectly. Not to mention theyre priced reasonably. Its my new comfort food.
Would highly recommend this place not just for good congee, but really great and tasty food. There was a wait, but it was worth the wait. Very affordable too. My family and I cant wait to go back!!!
Good congee. Must try if order congee stir-fry dry soy sauce egg noodle. The rice noodle roll is decent
Good congee place with no lines. Imo better than the famous ones right now. Fair prices.
Great service, food and staff! Prices are affordable, you get a big portion for the cost! Food itself is delicious, and always served hot and fresh. Amazing service, quick and the staff always greet customers with a smile. Would definitely recommended to check out this place and support their growing business!
Giving it a 5-star because of the golden cake - its hard to find in Toronto and they made it well
Great food, fast service!
It tastes so good, it took a long time to wait
Good portion, good value, delicious, good service, clean environment, friendly staff ,yummy food Highly recommend congee and combo What I ordered this time is congee with pork liver, rice noodle with pork, pan fried dumpling and soy sauce stir fry noodle
There is a small surprise. The products are very good and the price is as good as the raw porridge and fried dough sticks at 7 yuan plus tax. It is also suitable for the Chenwu people. It opens at 7 am.
Cheap n cheerful. Offers the basics. Food is GOOD!
good food
Best pork liver Cheung fun!!!
The food was so good we forgot to take pictures!! There was only one photo of a half-eaten chive dumpling, also very tasty!! Went there for the congee, which was nice and light, but fell in love with the liver rice roll! The people there are nice and hard-working! Love the place!!
I been coming for years n and so has my mom. We mostly get take out and the food is affordable and yummy. The place is small but its like finding a needle in a haystack, this place is a gem. The bosses are great and friendly. Cant beat the prices if your looking for some congee. I highly recommend it.
Great Congee. Great price point.
Price good, taste good
Good portion and yummy!
good
Forget Congee Queen or Congee King, Oriental Congee is the best in Toronto
Order via uber eats, not bad for a smaller joint but may be better at the restaurant, will go in person to try
Got takeout here recently! Really unassuming place that serves large and tasty portions of rice noodle rolls and congee!
Very delicious, especially their preserved egg and lean meat porridge, rice rolls and fried rice noodles, because I only ordered these 3 items before. Hahaha. The porridge is very fragrant, and the rice rolls are smooth and tender. Anyway, I think their restaurant can beat many morning tea shops. Real
Good congee.
Great customer service, delicious food. Highly recommend
The waiter Or boss is too rude. Do you know the basic polite to your customer?
My bowls and plates were spotless when I finished. What more can I say? Lol!!
There is a ROACH in the congee, the worse thing is I had most of them because the ROACH was on the bottom of the bowl. FML
A newly opened store, the porridge is particularly delicious, the food is fresh and cheap, suitable for everyones taste!
Driving by and saw the new kid on the block for congee offerings ... went in to see the spread offered. Many options for the traditional fare for congee and rice noodles. I opted for their name sake Oriental Congee special which consisted of bbq pork, cuttle fish, fish cake, pork delicacies topped with a healthy serving of red skin peanuts accompanied with an egg steamed rice noodle. The flavours were a-ok and the rice noodle freshly steamed. With this being the first week of operations, will see how things smooth out. There currently is a 20% off grand opening but my order only had 20% off the lowest priced item and not the order... Will swing by again after they iron out the processes and will update accordingly.
Ordered from here on Uber a bunch of times their food is great. Congee is on point and their rice noodle rolls are delicious and value for the dollar overall is quite good
