Proper classic diner atmosphere and you can get a large, delicious meal and a beer for under $20! In 2024! This place is a treasure.

Foods so good - I really dont care about the cockroaches everywhere, i go back.. lol! Place is infested with them, but hey - so is Toronto right?? I go every Saturday morning (id be upset if i didnt see a cockroach) it would almost take away from the vibe.

Small and unassuming. No fancy decorations or showmanship, the food SPEAKS for itself. This keeps the price good and the quality great. I had a big lunch with a side order and a pop and it came to under $20. Thats incredible for 2024.

Want great food, at a great place, served to you by genuinely kind people? This is the place. Don t get confused - this isn t your typical Queen Street fancy or glamorous 5 star restaurant, with a 5 star atmosphere. It is in fact a no-nonsense local eatery, ran by a couple will openly admit that they haven t renovated since they opened the place in 1999. They re very humble, and they make excellent food for the price. I dunno what the guy who reviewed before me is on about, but the man and his wife who own this place work crazy hard to try and make a living, and are both great chefs for the prices they charge. I can t think of many places in the city that offer a $9 combo dinner, a $5 wonton soup or a $10 big breakfast anymore, but those dishes and everything else on the menu is seriously GOOD for what you re paying. My girlfriend and I come here often, and we re always treated well. I d understand leaving a bad review if you were paying $30 for eggs and bacon, but at these prices and with such kind people who clearly run this as a family business, if they re even above average and good quality (as they are) then there s no reason why anyone should be riled up about it. I always recommend this place to my friends, and I always will. Definitely worth the price of admission, and a hidden gem in the crazy expensive area that is Queen and Ossington. Don t ignore it just cause it isn t glammed up like its neighbours. This is the real thing, and the very definition of quality over quantity.

Queen Star is one of the neighbourhoods hidden gems. Im there for breakfast every weekend I get a chance. Friendly, fast, confusingly inexpensive. I always leave full, happy, and caffeinated.

I have friends that order from Queen star, so I thought I should check it out, I have ordered there for takeout 3 times now and got Chinese food items. was so delicious! And such a large variety of other kinds of food there that I will definitly try someday.

Really great mom and pop diner - the owners clearly work hard to please their guests. They serve very solid traditional breakfast fare and the Cantonese dishes are authentic and flavourful. Everything is affordable and delicious. Also love the quaint and classic diner feel.

My first time trying this restaurant, ordered house fried rice without shrimp and beef with mushroom. The takeout was tasty, well balanced and happy with the food quality. Will order from here again.

i really love coming here! the food is very reasonably priced and delicious. i usually get honey garlic chicken with french toast, and that combination is so good!!! the owners are so lovely and sweet as well. im trying to get all my friends to come here because i genuinely love this place so much. show them support!!!!!

Very good family business run all day breakfast and Chinese food. The first time here, I am amazed how their food is good with AMAZING prices. Very good service and clean. The potato was so delicious, too roasted with onion. Yummy. So I ordered the special with bacon as my friend did I normally not big fan of bacon I gave it to friend but was well done cooked and nice test I had one. The table beside us ordered Chinese food, and it looks amazing . Please give them a good tip as their prices are too low to compensate for it. Thank you for your wonderful service and food.

Food is standard issue breakfast food, cooked well, fresh and solid portions. Come here for exceptional value for money...if you want a full brunch with avocado toast, etc this isnt the place for you. Old school basic food and the prices reflect that. Suggestion: because the prices are so low, dont tip based on percentage but instead leave a $$$ amount.

I love this place so much. Feels like a time capsule to when the neighbourhood was warehouses and lumber yards. Inexpensive and tasty.

Really good healthy food. Don t be afraid for the look. I took fried rice (not so fried and not fat at all) with vegetables and eggs. Like Nasi Goreng in Bali. Totally recommended.

Honestly idk what you are doing if you rate this less than 5 stars. A parkdale staple , an example of the simpler times and nostalgia that is long lost in our modern day. Breakfast for a steal , always good always consistent and always a pleasure. I hope we never lose this place

Really hard to order over the phone for delivery

We ordered delivery and our food came promptly! It was delicious and I even had to call the resturant after to thank them!

I really dont know how this place has such a high rating. Maybe it s the burgers and eggs, but I ve ordered a Chinese dish twice from this place and both times the food was meh. The first time the food arrived about an hour after my order, which is not unexpected. But tonight was my 2nd time ordering. i put in an order for a single meal, as i am a single person living alone. The lady on the phone told me i should order more food next time, it s too little food. I reminded her that i am paying for delivery, this isnt free. So she shut up. She seemed to take offence to this because after taking my order and telling me the total, she immediately hung up on me in the middle of asking her a question of when to expect the food. I called back immediately and she didnt answer my call. I had to call 2 more times for her to pick up and tell me it would be an hour. Yeah that was a lie. The food came 2hrs late. Yes, 2 hours. I called at 522pm and the delivery man called my buzzer at 721pm. And the food was room temp, not even warm. So i called just now to speak to a manager, just so the manager is aware what is going on in their store. the lady pretended she doesn t know when manager will be in and hung up on me. Twice. Also, she charged me $11.50 for my meal, which was Dinner for One No. 10. The menu uploaded by the owners on the FB page says it is $10.50. She even said $10.50 initially but then corrected herself and said $11.50. That menu on FB was uploaded in 2022, so it s possibly prices have gone up. But then why havent the owners uploaded the new menu prices? Makes me wonder if she purposely upcharged me because i ordered too little food . It s a shame that one of the few Chinese restaurants in Parkdale with delivery has such a high rating, yet this lady is ruining their star rating with this abysmal customer service and attitude that we should order more because it s not worth her driver delivering such little food. Reader, you have been warned.

Absolutely fantastic place! The food is always delicious with amazing prices. Staff is so friendly and accommodating. The vibe is very retro diner style which I love. Anytime someone visits me in Toronto it s a must go to place. Absolutely love it here

Lady serving was very nice, but place isnt the cleanest. Cans of soft drinks from fridge were filthy, chest freezer is filthy when opened.

Im usually not big on chinese food but this place actually blew my mind; loved everything we ordered for a quick and easy well priced dinner. The lady serving was super nice and sweet and the service itself was fast; Ill definitely go back to it.

Great diner breakfast spot.

I use to eat from Queen Star Restaurant frequently, the good ole university days, when classes ran late and you wanted something to fill your belly and was convenient. However, with the recent price increase, I can not justify frozen chicken bits, bagged veggies and pre-mixed white rice in soy sauce. Saigon Flower Restaurant down the street is much better!

I appreciate a diner such as this still standing strong in a place like West Queen West. The food is familiar, filling and cheap which makes it satisfying on a soul level. The family that runs this place makes it feel very homey like you were dropping into a home of your Chinese immigrant friend and their mom was obliged to offer you food.

Humble mom-and-pop joint surrounded by soulless fast food chains and franchises. The big portions and cheap price makes it a great place for take out. Call in to place your order so you dont have to wait too long. I recommend the vegetable lo mein.

Fantastic spot and really captures the essence of the Old School Queen West. You know, before it got all trendy? I came here when I first moved to the city in the fall of 2006(they were located down the street) and enjoy their breakfast special just as much today. A really great, mom-and-pop operation and an important part of the neighbourhood. The food is great and the owners are hard working, honest and fair. They have been serving our community for many years and Im so happy they still are.

Neighbourhood divey, diner. Huge portions at reasonable prices. The husband and wife do everything on their own and work really hard. Very casual place so whatever you imagine for service and atmosphere at a divey diner is what you will get but its great because no one bothers you :)

Don t let the stuck in the 90s vibe fool you. This local family owned business knows how to make breakfast. The pancakes are thick and fluffy, the eggs are always perfectly cooked and the potatoes are crispy and full of flavour. So far they cannot be beat. This place is great. It is affordable and the food is great. Dont be fooled by the bad reviews. The bad reviews are all from yuppie drips that live in the nearby condos and should probably be eating at Jack Astors and Subway, because they dont possess an actual palette for food, because they are too basic.

Family owned restaurant. Not the fanciest food you will get to eat in Toronto but this one hit the spot and it s very reasonably priced.

First and LAST time buying from here. I ordered general tso chicken and fried rice, they put Litterly a tea spoon of the sweet sauce on the chicken. Such a waste of time and money for a simple grub .

Stumbled upon this place and wasn t sure about it. The other lady waiting for her order said it s actually super good and she goes all the time and gets the beef and broccoli with fried rice. I tried the combo number 2 and it came with beef & veggie, chicken balls, fried rive and a spring roll. All this for $10! Have to say, it s also delicious! Definitely going back :) highly recommend!

Don t expect gourmet or a decent ambience but the staff know what s up and the food is bomb. I m travelling across the city during quarantine just to take advantage of their cuisine. You get more for what you pay for. This restaurant is a Toronto staple. I ll always return. You will not be upset.

I wanted to like it because it s so close by, but unfortunately it sucked. My beef & broccoli dish was very salty. My shrimp fried rice was burnt... like, black pieces & smelled from the bag!!! The spicy shrimp was nothing to rave about. The only good thing was the plain noodles I ordered. Disappointed. Everything was leaking out the bags.

The worst customer service ever! I get that their Chinese but it took 15 minutes to explain we live in Liberty Village only for them to cancel the order because I wanted to pay with a card. They only take cash. Brutal.

I used to live across from this restaraunt. The food is easily an 8/10 and the portions are 10/10. The owners of this restaraunt are from China and have owned this restaraunt since 2000 or 2001 and worked every single day except Christmas day!! This restaraunt is honestly one of my favorites in the city. Go and say Hi to Tommy!!

Best all day breakfast

Very basic Canadian Chinese like you would find in a small town...except its in the heart of the Queen West strip around the Drake. No air conditioning.

I spent $67 on my first visit and I regret nothing. The burger alone is stunning. Like, no question, the most underrated burger Ive had since burger fighter closed up.

I ordered Chinese take out a couple of days ago, and was very happy with the food! We had spicy Szechuan beef noodles, sweet & sour chicken balls, pork fried rice and steamed and pan fried dumplings (which are home made). I recommend this great family run business.

I really enjoy this place, it s reminds me of another Chinese restaurant that is now closed down. I order here almost once a week my usual order of beef mixed vegetables and fried rice. i emphasize on the fried rice as I know it comes with steam rice, if I m going to pay extra for the fried rice I expect to get fried rice when my order gets home. Please take down the orders correctly as I don t want to have to walk back. Thank you for your service.

Wonderful price for good quality and quantity. Vegan options make this place a repeat go-to for me - the tofu and veggies with rice dish is filling, well-priced and delicious. I am very grateful to find this place in usually-overpriced Toronto!

This place is so unassuming, has delicious food, extremely cheap prices, friendly staff. This is everything I want in a local establishment. Highly recommend the breakfast.

Food is delicious and cheap. The only complaint I have is that visa transactions cost you $1. Other than that its a great place to grab whatever food you crave as they serve anything from breakfast food of all sorts, to burgers and sandwiches and chineese food.

One of the only places you can get a cheap (but still good!) meal in the neighborhood! Coffee is decent, food is good, and the fact that I can have a hearty breakfast with coffee and only pay $10 (including taxes and a good tip) is unbeatable for this area.

This place is a no-nonsense diner with good, cheap food. No need for ambiance or music when you just want a quick bite for when youre hungry. Most of the menu is under $10 and will fill you up. Amazing assortment of food from all day breakfast, to burgers and souvlaki, to Chinese cuisine. Service was quick, food was good and its location is convenient. Will definitely be returning soon.

I have eaten here many times, but today was shocked and disheartened, as the place was empty on a Sunday brunch time. I ordered an omelette, no toast no potatoes and the owner( the female) charged me $2 more for less food! I guess this is her way of making up sales in an empty restaurant.. needless to say I will not be patronizing the Queen Star ever again, and make sure you know the price when you order... The CHEAPEST and surprisingly delicious meal you could get in the area. At the cost of ambience, you can get a meal for two, taxes and tip for under $20, and leave absolutely satisfied. Dont be discouraged by its appearance--definitely a hole-in-the-wall diner I am relieved to have given a chance. Owners are so sweet, its really a home cooked meal, no whistles or bells. Love it.
