Solid Tianjin food (very heavy on carbs and dough). Service is fast and I would recommend doing takeout for a quick snack.

It's close to authentic northern Chinese breakfast, but a little too salty for our tastes. The youtiao was a highlight. Food was ready pretty fast, less than 10 minutes.

Super authentic Tianjin breakfast and brunch place. I been here a few times now and I will keep flying back to Canada Toronto to visit this place. The owner is actually from the same area as where I grew up as a child. Very nice guy, I can see how some people might mistaken his northern attitude as mean or rude. Also, is very hard for him to speak English. ❤️Tip❤️ make sure you bring cash and wechat. Here are some must try good from here!! 1. Crepe (jian bing Guo zi) 2. Fried cruller (you tiao) and non sweet soy milk 3. Won tons (hun tun) 4. Fried lotus root 5. Tianjin Baos (green bean pork and pork onion) Here are a few to start you with. Let me know what you think.

My boyfriend loves this place and now I finally understand why. Pleasantly surprised. Steamed buns were great! And the 'sandwich' was good too, spices I've never had before. Next time we come to Toronto I will be more excited to come back here too.

This off-the-beaten-path resto is located in the heart of Toronto’s downtown Chinatown. Just a few steps north off Dundas St. it is well worth a visit. There is nothing fancy here. After descending a few stairs to the half-basement location you’ll find yourself in a small, very plain space suffused with delicious aromas. The service is efficient to the point that some people might feel that it’s brusque. Honestly, you just have to get past that. This is a small operation and the one person taking/serving orders is also responsible for packaging up the many (many) orders being picked up by Fantuan Delivery, as well as being the person responsible for settling up the bill. Be kind and just relax into the pace. Once you’ve ordered you can chill at your table as long as you like - no pressure to leave at all. For lunch we ordered four dishes: Tianjin Style Jianbing with Crispy Filling; Fried Chinese Chives Pocket; Sliced Beef (Tripe) & Ox Tongue; and, Pork and Lotus Root Fried Dumplings. Everything was made fresh and delicious. There were so many layers of complex flavours and textures (the Jianbing was particularly awesome texture-wise) each dish was a delight to devour. The spicy tripe was delicious, and the ox tongue was melt-in-your-mouth tender. The dumplings were brown and crispy on the bottom, and tender chewy on top - perfect with an accompanying black vinegar. A quick note: rather unusually for a Chinese restaurant they don’t serve tea, so that delicious and relaxing option isn’t available. Total for this delicious lunch was $61.50 (tax and tip included). Great value for money; highly recommended!

Absolutely delicious! My husband and I went to Tian Jin 8 years ago and fell in love with the Jianbing and have been trying to find here in Toronto ever since. It takes just like we remember 💕 Thank you Ayi for bringing a taste of Tian Jin to Canada 💕

The attitude is terrible. Everything looks like it is soaked in oil. The food is really cheap and the quantity is large. But you may have been sitting there for half an hour and no one will bother you . And they only accept cash. They don t tell you in advance.

It closes at six oclock in the evening. The map says eight oclock. Be sure to pay attention to the closing time. If it is too late, call the store in advance to ask.

The service is basic and it isnt clear if any of the staff speak any English. But you can get by quite easily with the English menu and writing dish numbers on the order sheet. Cash only. The food is absolutely fantastic and quite cheap. My partner says that it is very authentic Northern Chinese cuisine. I dont really see about that, it tastes great.

Not a lot of places serving these pastries so I really hope they can improve the quality of things. The crepe s crispy bit in the middle is way too big which makes the whole thing too dry. It s also skimp on sauce and herbs that could improve the taste. Sesame biscuits had not enough of sesame paste or clearly distinguishable layers like it should. Sesame paste should be seasoned. The sweet version had great flavours but still not enough layers. The pastry work seemed a bit of a mess. The meat fillings are generally tough and rubbery, probably a little overworked. Could be softer if more juice and fat are incorporated properly. Maybe having too much things on a menu that are all typically mastered by artisans over years is a bit of overly ambitious

Chef Mike (aka the microwave) was on duty when we visited. The steamed buns and the wonton soup were definitely prepared by Chef Mike. We heard Chef Mike beeping that the orders were ready and very soon after, the food was at the table. And we heard Chef Mike beeping a lot. Food was fair, but there are a lot better options in Chinatown and the surrounding area. The lady who is taking the orders does not speak English, at all. Luckily a customer who spoke Chinese could translate. Also, it is cash only.

The attitude of the staff was very poor. It took us fifteen minutes from entering the store to placing our order, and then we were told that we needed to write it down on paper. After writing it down, we informed the stuff, who had a very bad attitude and told us to wait. After waiting for five minutes, someone came out and unprofessionally informed us that they could only accept cash or WeChat pay. I didnt bring much cash, so I told the stuff how much we ordered for the meal, and the stuff ignored me.

December 22, 2023

Food - meh, greasy, lots of flies around - better to go in winter for that reason. Service was pretty lacklustre - so expect to need to make some noise when u come in to get their attention. Service itself is the usual grim and flat affect. Overall forgettable except for their ethics regarding their door stickers claiming they accept MasterCard and Visa and Interac but they actually only taking cash. Why not just say so and take the Visa and MasterCard stickers off ur door? A bit deceptive.. Its your choice as a business to only accept cash, but its my choice to only shop places that take plastic. I respect ur choice, u respect mine. It was enough to turn the 2 or 3 stars theyd normally get to 1. Take the decal off ur door and Ill revise to 3.

December 22, 2023

Yet another Chinese place that only wants to do take out orders. 1. We had to wait a long time to get anyone to come out from the back. 2. I had to wave away flies during the meal. 3. We were told they only take cash at the end of the meal, not even a debit card. 4. There is no sign anywhere about cash only. 5. I had to take out cash from their ATM, incurring extra fees. How are the take out orders being paid if they dont accept any cards? Sounds like shady practices or cheapness. The place has definitely gone downhill since the last time I came here. I left feeling tricked and cheated, I wont be back.

This place is a gem if you know what you are looking for - authentic Tian Jing food, as the store name suggests. Some items such as the sesame bun is meant to be more on the dry texture as that s the authentic way. Already the best Tian Jin flavor you could get around the area.

I don t know how these good reviews came about. I placed an order on Uber and waited for 40 minutes. I didn t get the buns, and they weren t particularly delicious. When I placed my order on Uber, I was given less buns. Fortunately, the platform refunded them.

FAKE !!! Ordered Sliced Beef and Ox Tongue in Chili Sauce through Uber Eats. This isnt worthy of being called . Half of the dish is just cucumbers, which shouldnt be in . The cucumbers are bitter and the beef is too salty. The portion is large enough to feed a 2-year-old for 5 minutes. The price of this dish should be able to buy a portion 3 times its size.

I like Tianjin Jianbing when I was still in China, so I gave this place a try, not very satisfied though. The service is not good, I just didn t feel welcomed, the owner was busy with his stuff and I didn t even know whether he took my order or not at first, waited super long for just the Jianbing, and finally the Jianbing itself, I would say it s just average, would never spend another 10 dollars for just one Jianbing again, just not worth it

Monday morning 11 am, they are not open. It shows open on Google, Yelp and even their door sign showing OPEN. Please update your sites if you decide not open. We took a Uber to Chinatown for you. Very disappointed!

December 22, 2022

The taste was average, the wrong dishes were always served, and people ignored me when I asked for water and napkins. The most terrifying thing was that a hair came out of the porridge. The boss kept saying that there was no such person in the kitchen, so did I put it in myself? ? Im short of money for a bowl of porridge? Im not asking for compensation. The boss didnt say a word during the whole process and ignored people. What kind of attitude is this?

A portion of steamed buns, a portion of salted tofu and a portion of cold celery costs $34 including tip and tax, which is equivalent to a very good brunch in Montreal. Is it because prices in Toronto are too high or Chinese food is too luxurious... But as a southerner, this is my first time. Eating salted tofu is actually a novel experience in Canada. The salted tofu is very fragrant and not too spicy even if it is spicy. It has plenty of ingredients and includes fungus. The beef and carrot buns are full of soup and very filling.

Jianbing was not what it should have, or could have, been. At all. Sesame paste bun was SO dry that I thought it was a day or two old, and perhaps it was! Waitress was less than welcoming and I had to actually get up and ask for the condiment basket after she served my food and walked away, clearly not planning on returning. No offer of even a glass of water to drink. If you are the only one in a restaurant during lunch hours on a Friday afternoon you might consider a different place to eat, I now know I should have but was too hungry to move. Regretful!
