126 Elizabeth St, Toronto, ON M5G 1P5, Canada
One of Toronto's oldest Hakka Restaurants serving comfort, Chinese food.
So.... delicious. And they will become my favor Hakka restaurant when I visit downtown. One of the BEST Hakka restaurant. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍 My mom just fall in love with their hot zizzling chilli chicken generous portion with the prefect touch. My sister loves their zizzling beef which is so tender, I'm telling ya, its so worth it every penny. Foods just melt in our tummy so yum😋 so.... delicious and I means it. I would highly recommend my families and friends. The chef is super friendly and beautiful and their foods is sooooooo yummy "I be back"❤️👍👍👍 All the staffs provide Excellent service, super friendly and I love how they check to see if you are okay. Generous with napkins drinks and change plate for you . I found out that this is a families business that have been pass down generation to generation. Restaurant have been open since 1987. Like WoW. Lots of VIP visit however owner like to keep it low profile and only people visit will definitely revisit and their restaurant Its above Kyoto restaurant right in the corner across from Longos on the 2nd floor. I love the big red door very very anti looking and very classic. Loved ❤️ You can host a hugh group party fits 150 to 200 people. Looking forward to try others dishes and 😅 You can try to go for pay parking on the north side of Dundas which is about a block north and is on Elizabeth st. For $20 or $25 all day parking, so... worth it 👍and you can go shop around the Eaton Center or I think they call Dundas square. Otherwise its hard to find parking in the area. That how good the food is and I highly recommend you to try it. You will like it, after you can have a dessert Green tea match downstairson Dundas st... omgoodness. Me will be 🐷 if I visit everyday🤣😂🤣 have a great day!
After growing up and eating Hakka food all my life in Toronto I felt it was my duty to make a pilgrimage here to honour Hakka cuisine and how it all started in Toronto. The place was nicer than I imagined and the staff were friendly. Usually friendly staff at a Chinese place might be a red flag (give me the grumpy auntie or uncle any day) but this wasn't. Ordered the salt pepper mushrooms (super tasty and with not too much excess batter) and signature chili chicken (excellent) Spicier than what I'm used to but that's not a bad thing. New owner (daughter of family that has run this place for decades) has taken over operations and she was friendly and attentive. Portions were decent and we had leftovers as well. Would highly recommend. They even have a happy hour menu. We'll be back!
One of my favorite restaurants in town right now. Large portions, high quality ingredients and cooking, relatively fair prices, great great hospitality, what else can you ask for? Probably will not go back for their Manchurian or chili chicken/beef on rice, they are ok but definitely not the real gems of this restaurant, so far i am really satisfied with their other dishes like stuffed tofu, beef brisket and beef onion sizzler, they are all great. Definitely gonna keep coming back for all other dishes, this place won’t disappoint.
Family run establishment. Their hot n sour soup is to die for. It is a perfect thing on a cold Toronto evening. Also had veg chowmein and it was fantastic as well. Portions are huge. Staff is polite and prompt. Recommend 💯.
Yueh tung is hands down the best spot for authentic Hakka cuisine in town! The food is consistently flavorful, with each dish perfectly spiced and cooked to perfection. It’s my go-to favorite restaurant and a must-try for anyone craving amazing Hakka food!
Stopped by for a quick meal and were absolutely delighted. The staff is very welcoming and restaurant is massive. Very clean and nice decor. It wasn't very busy on a weekend late afternoon. We got seated right away. Ordered the classic chilli chicken with gravy and Cantonese fried rice (pork and shrimp). Both were absolutely delicious. A bit on the milder side but good nonetheless. Prices are high.
Yueh Tung is one of the last great Chinese restaurants in Toronto. The chefs here are truly masters of their craft, and everything they prepare is a culinary delight. My recommendations are the Chili Chicken, Manchurian Chicken and of course, the fried rice and their beef noodles. I’ve tried their chicken fried rice, egg fried rice and beef noodles all amazing! If you get a chance, grab a jar of their hot sauce it’s fantastic. I visited yesterday with friends, found this place through Google, and it was absolutely worth the visit. The food, service, and ambiance are excellent, all at an affordable price. Best Chinese food in the city.
I had fairly high expectations from what I had heard. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly and attentive and over all pleasant people. The portion sizes were huge and generous and easily more than double what you expect. The food was a bit lackluster in flavor and a bit too gelatinous. None of the dishes really had that much taste.
Good prices, amazing food. I am never disappointed with my visits here. I typically enjoy items from the lunch menu particularly the crispy beef, but there are many other dishes I would recommend. Vegetarian options: Should be enough choices. Kid-friendliness: Should be fine
Best Hakka spot in the city hands down.
It was such a nice experience at this lovely, well ventilated and spacious restaurant. The waitress who took our order was super nice and accommodating of my dietary restrictions. Then the waiter who served our food was super nice too. He actually served the soup in our bowls. The portion sizes are huge. A small hot and sour soup was a huge portion for all three of us. The soup was a little too much vinegar to my liking but my husband loved it. Then we ordered hakka noodles which the waitress warned us it would be a little sweet. But the flavors were amazing. We ate it along with chili chicken which was not as spicy as we hoped. Overall the food is good, service and portion sizes are amazing. I would come back and try their egg fried rice..
On a cold December day, a comforting dish of rice and gingery warm Machurian chicken is all you need. Ash is an amazing server and greeted us with glee and made our dinner a 100/100
Chili or Manchurian anything is a major go.
Best Hakka in town. This place is the TRUTH. Chilli chicken obvi but the SALTED MAKREL FRIED RICE is my fav dish in the city. Get it if you know what s good for you.
Love this place. Go-tos: Beef and onion sizzler. Chilli chicken (dry/not sauced!). Shrimp fried rice. Crispy Cantonese chow mein. Really should try others but these are too good!
I got the chinese broccoli and beef on rice for $18 instead of just the beed for $21. The person who took my order said the beef on rice was a almost the same amount of beef as the $21 dish. Since the order was just for one person, I got the beef on rice for $18. The portion was so small and the beef was chewy. This used to taste way better. For the price, I could have gotten a better portion and better quality meat at the Eaton Centre food court. So disappointing! What happened to this place??
Delicious Best Place I drive from a far distance to eat this deliciousness Highly Recommend Chili Chicken , Crispy Beef & OG Chicken Wings
Love this restaurant!!! Amazing food and fantastic, friendly service. Will definitely come back!! Thank you :)
Wow! Thoroughly impressed with the dine in experience. Stopped in for lunch with some friends after an event downtown. Friendly service from the moment we entered and food was absolutely delicious. Portions were phenomenal. Enough for each of three friends to take home and enjoy later (which I did the following night). You can see the care that goes into a family run restaurant from the moment you enter to the moment you leave. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a Hakka food experience. Fried chili mushrooms were excellent and Manchurian chicken did not disappoint. Thank you Yueh Tung restaurant for your experience and hospitality- I will definitely be coming back.
Hands-down best chilli chicken in the city. Friendly and personable staff. Delicious food. My go-to is chilli chicken with extra sauce. Fire. Nice portions as well. I had lunch there today and had leftovers for dinner after. Good value for the price. Highly recommend.
Great service and atmosphere. The staff are really knowledgeable about the dishes and are willing to alter how the food is made according to customers diet. Vegetarian options: Very good vegetarian options. Food is bland, but can be solved with hot sauce and chilli oil they provide.
My wifes favorite Chinese place is slowly becoming mine, too. Chili beef and chili chicken are both awesome dishes!
Im a big fan of their food. So many spices and yummy taste. I had their spicy shrimp dish and it was lovely. This restaurant has been around for years. Lunch time is very busy, so expect a bit of a wait. Food is nice and fresh. The servers are outgoing and quite funny. Wheelchair accessibility: There are stairs going to the front door and then another flight to the second floor. Not accessible by wheelchair unfortunately.
This Hakka restaurant has been on my list for a while. As someone who has lived in Kolkata, India this place definitely took me back to the Indo-Chinese taste! Tried: Manchurian Shanghai Noodles, Mushroom Egg drop soup (Both Vegetarian) Calm atmosphere. Just tad bit pricey (for a solo diner 31$). Edit: Bruh why you gotta do me like that by replying I said for an individual!! Yeah I had some leftovers
Always delicious! I have been coming here for over 15 years. The food is always fresh and the staff are wonderful!
Excellent food. Great staff. Good portion size.
Really disappointed. Used to come here all the time and came back for the first time in years today. Apparently ownership has changed and its very clear that the new owners dont care about in store or delivery orders. I watched your owner(according to another worker) mock and lie to delivery people... Not understanding why people are upset they were told a couple of minutes and were still waiting ten minutes later. Couple this with the fact that I was told ten minutes for my order and waited twenty. The way you treat delivery people is very visible to your customers that are in your restaurant and seeing them treat people this way makes me want to not ever come back.
I love this place and have been going to this place for almost 2 decades
Great food, great service consistently excellent every time we eat here.
My favorite Hakka place! The chilli chicken is always a delight.
Yueh Tung is one of the last great Chinese restaurants in Toronto. The chefs here are truly masters of their craft and everything they prepare is a culinary delight. My recommendations are the Chili chicken, Manchurian chicken on crispy yellow noodles all black bean sauce menu items and of course the fried rice. If you have a chance get their jar of hot sauce it is amazing.
Amazing experience ordering from Yueh Tung for a 60+ person event we had. Not only was the food delicious, but the service exceeded our expectations!! The team was great in answering our many questions, working with our modifications and having everything prepared on time - making our busy day easier.
Pretty good food. Getting back to what they used to do many years ago... But last few years food fell off a fair bit. Went there on the weekend and they are almost back to making top notch food once again.
If you havent heard of yueh tungs Manchurian chicken or Chili chicken you must stop by here and try a plate out. Its something crave worthy. Could be nostalgia from eating here since highschool but seeing this place packed for lunch every day says otherwise.
Hands down one of the best Chinese food in town! The Chilli shrimp and chicken always bring my back to this place.
The Manchurian Chicken was sadly very mid barely-there flavour and spice. Will stick with takeout from Hakka & Jerk, even though it s out of the way and has no seating.
Ordered the sweet and sour chicken, not a fan and uncertain what type of bird is used. Issa a No for me. I will go back and try other dishes as the rice was delicious and the service was friendly and prompt. However, some employees didn t know anything about the food being served, maybe it was their 1st time waiting tables. Reasonably priced lunch specials and lots of seating. I will say the rating is very misleading as I expected more and ended up with less.
Sooo good. Sweet and sour chicken.
Food too salty & i had a upset stomach!
One of the best chili chicken I ve had. Awesome spot I d highly recommend !
Wanted to order Takeout guy at the reception area started making comments in mandarin looking at me and laughing didnt help me out, walked right out.
Been going here for 25+ years for the chilli chicken. Still my favourite place downtown. I would come more often but its too difficult to get dt from Markham.
Excellent Hakka food, large portion size
Just left YT and had a great meal. Reasonable prices, great portions, fast and friendly service. Recco the Chili Chicken and the Hot & Sour Soup. Nice room too. Deserves a look and we ll be back.
Fantastic Hakka restaurant in the heart of Toronto. Family owned, family friendly. Outstanding quality dishes, reasonably priced. Highly recommend. Will be back! Vegetarian options: Great selection of vegetarian dishes Dietary restrictions: Can tailor to dietary restrictions and allgeries
Oh man I was so disappointed. I can confidently say it was the worst Hakka I had ever tasted in the gta area. We ordered the snow pea shoots, chili chicken, their house special noodle with some rice. Service was friendly although some of their staff was new. No problem. First thing I noticed was how expensive it was compared to congee queen just around the corner. Also Their menu said to add the sizzling plate to the chili chicken for 1$ but also 2$. Owner put his finger on the 1$ and told us to pretend it wasn t there. Just serve it how it s supposed to be served, no point in asking customers which plate they want. The snow pea shoots were 6/10. Better than what I can cook at home, but the bare minimum of what I d expect at a restaurant. Chili chicken. I really didn t get the hype. The chicken was dry. The sauce was too salty. Shame, because the flavor was good but fell apart in execution. When i went back to eat the snow pea shoots I could no longer taste the seasoning. The Hakka noodle soup. Oh boy. I don t exaggerate when I say that it tasted just slightly better than vomit, but looked like it. It was in a big red box on the menu in the middle of page so i thought it would be a safe/popular order. The soup tasted like water + oil + some soy sauce and maybe some oyster sauce. Bland and flavorless. Had some flecks of chicken strips in it and these pinkish/flesh colored flecks. I tasted it and it is likely the red fermented bean curd. Awful awful pairing that gave the entire thing a slightly sour after taste which strongly reminded me of vomit. Owner came and later admitted he didn t like it either but claimed it had wine in the soup and that s how it s suppose to taste . Why keep something on the menu if the owner doesn t even like the taste? I ate like 25% of the snow peas, 2 pieces of the chili chicken and couldn t stomach any more of the food.
The food is prepared quickly and always tastes great. Elvis is the BEST
Really good Hakka spot in Downtown Toronto. Usually would give it a 5 star but sometimes it seems it hits 4 star depending what Chefs are working. Overall it s top notch tho with some amazing authentic recipes and sauces. Been going for years and will continue too. Fan Favourites... Chill Chicken Dry or with Sauce, dry is a bit better, Manchurian Chicken with sauce, Chili Beef, Crispy Beef, General Tao Chicken all
I take out for dinner the food was good but usually 1 food enough for two person but I order 2 fried rice and 2 dried chilli chicken which cost me $82 dollars. Its only enough for 3 people . NOT HAPPY I paid that much
They have a separate vegan and vegetarian page in the menu. Food was so delicious. Great portions!
Chilli chicken and steamrice combo is muy bien.
This has been one of my favourite restaurants since 1987! Love to sneak in for a bite when I hit the city! Glad to see it s still a family restaurant! Amazing food, great staff, and always great portions!!!
Manchurian chicken has been the same for the 20 years I ve been a customer - always delicious. Wait staff are the best in the city!
Ive been coming here since the 1980s when it was across the street and the Hakka food is fantastic -- best in the city core -- a blend of traditional Chinese and Indian food. Beware though, there are only stairs.
Mapo Tofu Low key restaurant with great dishes to pack. Came here with a party of 3 to catch up over some good Hakka food. Food : 5/5
Best Hakka in the city. Recommend the chili chicken, Manchurian chicken, crispy beef - as my faves, but all dishes are fresh and top quality. Service is always fast and staff are very friendly.
We got take out. It was ok. Lemon chicken was a bit on the greesy side. Egg rolls were pretty good, vegitable noodlea were good too Food
I haven t been here in a few years, but anytime we are in Toronto we will go!! It s the best restaurant. Soooo yummy. And love the story behind it .
Food is of good quality, I have been going there for years now. But have noticed the deformation in portion of food and quality too. Couple of table attendants are very friendly, though a few are totally opposite.
Me and a few friend went there. Was really hoping the chili chicken was better than most places. They dont even use green chili but they use red chili paste. The sauce was too sweet when its suppose to be savory. The chili chicken was soggy and it is suppose to be deep friend properly containing the crispyness. The chicken manchurian noodle is quite terrible i wont lie and the crispy beef was like ok. Definetly not worth going for the price and i dont know if it was the workers going on break because they were all out there eatting. Our food just tasted like someone didnt care and made it half fast. Expect way more when they advertise there chili chicken being shown on tv n other media platform. And tbh the worse chili chicken ive had in the gta. Idk how this place can survive in gta with 4.3 2k reviews. Must of been fake reviews aint no way
We enjoyed the Manchurian Chicken and Beef with assorted vegetables. The food was delicious and very good value. Convenient walking distance from Dundas subway station and CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre. Well go again next time we are in Toronto for a show.
my family has Hakka and we used to run a Hakka restaurant in Asia before moving on to a more profitable business I think you should relook your menu and really find out what Hakka food is really like. None of your dishes is Hakka. The only dish that looked Hakka is the one that looks like Kiu Nyuk but it doesn t look like it s executed well.
I ve had my fair share of hakka and have to say this was my least favourite of all time. The chili chicken isn t so chili and had a strange unappetizing flavour. I also received fried rice that had no salt, and the spring roll tasted like batter on the inside. Also definitely overpriced.
Best Hakka restaurant in the world. My family and I have been coming here since 1998. https://youtu.be/C2XBs9mmJwo?si=hsfP0BnI_MfQdzN7
Had to come to this Toronto landmark to try the famous dishes. A group of 6 of us all tried it together. Hot and soup was a hit, crispy beef was amazing,
Got the crispy beef and pork belly. Went to the washroom to wash my hands and no soap. We ordered two bowls of rice but they never came so we asked again and got one. The crispy beef was average. The pork belly was delicious. Tasted just like how I used to get it at in China.
Been patronizing since they opened in the 80s - need I say more?
You ll want to order everything, so bring a big group. It s all delicious. Especially the lobster.
I got the Manchurian chicken chowmein which was greasy and bland at the same time. Maybe this place was good in its heyday, but its certainly not anymore.
My favorite Chinese place Chili chicken and hot and sour sure - the best!!! Food
My family and I are very happy with this place. We loved the famous chili chicken, shrimp fried rice, black cod in black bean sauce (fried), and Wok smoked beef noodles dish. My dad who is Chinese said this is one of the best meals he has had in a while. We will definitely return.
Huge portion sizes and prices are very reasonable. The chili chicken was very good. The pork belly was to die for. Green beans in schezwan sauce was good too.
Food was tasty, delicious and filling, but all the dishes were soaked in oil. Fried noodles were overly sweet and the beef was a bit too salt. Again, great taste but regrets. Could be both, great taste and no regrets. Decor needs more vibrant colors. No chopsticks at table, took time for water refills , and took too long to get the card machine to work.
They have diversified Chinese fare, including Indo Chinese.
The 1st time I went, my chicken in my Chilli chicken tasted off. Like it was spoiled meat. Decided to give it a try again today since the place is so busy. Maybe it was just a one-time thing, and yet again it tasted spoiled. Wont be going back.
This place has delicious food and big serving sizes. Reminiscent of the days before shrinkflation. There are a few signature dishes highlighted on the menu. My favourite is the sweet soya sauce noodles. As this place is hakka, the food can be spicy. If in doubt, ask about the spice levels. It closes early so be sure to check the hours before heading over.
On Saturday afternoon, a week after attending WrestleMania XL in Philadelphia, I had lunch with my family (there was 6 of us). For about 19 years, since I joined my wife and her Hakka Chinese family, I always wanted to go! The food and service was absolutely excellent! We even had a chance to meet one of the owners as well who was kind, courteous and positive. So pleasant and amazing to be around her aura. We ordered Crispy Beef, Chilli Chicken Dry, Foong Mee Mein, Baby Bok Choy, Chicken Pakora and steamed rice. If I am ever downtown by Sankofa Square, I will definitely try to order from again!!!!
Ginger beef is always good!
Delicious ! Thanks for being so accommodating for my kids
This is now my favorite restaurant.
Extremely lackluster chili chicken. The chicken pieces are not marinated in anything. Swimming in bland gravy. Not good Hakka. The hot sauce provided is weak and overly salty. No pickled chili. Their only hakka items on the menu are the chili Chicken, chicken pakora, and the Manchurian chicken. Everything else is just regular Cantonese restaurant fare. This place is NOT Hakka. Its basically just a Cantonese restaurant.
Biased review, as Ive been a loyal customer for over 30 years. They have the best hot and sour soup in the city and their Manchurian chicken (with gravy) is my personal weakness. Its the best dish on the menu, imho. Other standouts are the crispy shrimp and garlic baby bok choy. Highly recommended if you like Hakka cuisine.
Comfort food!! A bit pricey these days.
Ive been coming here on and off for at least a decade and the food has been consistently good. Our most recent trip came to $75 plus $14 tip for two seafood noodle dishes and one pakora chicken with rice, three soft drinks. Three of us ate well and we had to ask for containers to take the rest home, five people could have been fed no problem.
Still good after all these years
UPDATED: I been coming here for years since university days and I still order from here now that Im working in downtown. This is my Friday lunch routine. One of the very few authentic hakka places youll find in downtown and one of the best places for chili chicken in downtown. Although, their lunch special for chili chicken on rice used to be $10, pre-COVID. Since COVID the chili chicken on rice lunch special has gone up to $16 then $18 and today I checked and its $19. Initially when it went up i understood due to COVID and I was able to justify the price increase due to the generous portion size, but as of recent, the portions of chicken has gone down. $19 for chili chicken on rice is just outrageous.
Delicious food, fresh and very flavored.
I really love the General Tso
Delicious, huge portions per plate, mine was $15 braised beef with veggies. Can request for extra veggies for an extra fee of $3. Busy during lunch time bet 11:30am-1pm. I went at 2pm to dine in then also ordered take out. I am always satisfied every time I visit.
This is the one of the first Hakka restaurants in Toronto. They have the best chili chicken. Haven t been here in a very long time. Was in TO and decided to drop by. The food is still top notch and the chili chicken what it s suppose to be. Lots of Hakka places around but they do chili chicken different. This is the original. Portion is good and the prices still reasonable. They make Hakka dishes not on the menu and it s as good as I rember.
Excellent food and service. Delicious food and Generous servings at a fair price.
This is my favorite Chinese restaraunt by far! Been coming here for 10+ years. My personal favorite is their Chilli chicken and their chow mein. The food is amazing, but what I love the most is their customer service. Any time I am greeted it is with friendly smiles. This is probably the only restaraunt where I will tip for takeout orders because their customer service is impeccable. Thank you for being consistent these years, you will always have a lifelong customer.
I ve been coming to this place for more than 20 years. The BEST chili chicken in the city- hands down!
Best Hakka restaurant in the GTA! Recommend: Chilli beef/shrimp Wok smoked beef noodle Fried calamari
Great food. Must try
Almost 40 years in business Joanna and Jeanette grew up in their parents restaurant which they now call theirs. It s so awesome. Like the Jewish deli these old school spots are getting harder to find and need our support. I love Hakka food and their dry chili chicken is bomb! Then again all the food is super delicious. I love a good sizzling plate and don t hate me but won ton skins and red sauce rock! Have a visit and show a little support for the ones who have lasted so long.
Very nice experience. The food was fresh and delicious. I enjoyed the Chili Mushrooms, Vegetable Chowmein, and Sweet and Sour Shrimp. Great vegetarian and seafood options.
Craved some Hakka food so we UberEats d this restaurant s top 3 items: Hakka sweet soy noodle, chili shrimp, stir fried kung pao chicken. All the food came in good portions, but for the kung pao chicken, we were disappointed that there were more vegetables than chicken in the dish. The sweet soy noodles were super tasty, not too sweet, and had a wonderful chewy texture. The shrimp, however, was the star of the show. Perfectly spicy and crispy, these shrimp were amazing - definitely recommend it. Last but not least, the kung pao chicken had good flavouring as well: it was salty and spicy, well cooked. As mentioned before however, there were more of the accompanying vegetables in our plate than the chicken. Overall, this place is great for Hakka food! We didn t get to explore many of the other options but we hope to do so in the future :)
Amazing food and incredible service! The food came out fast and is one of my favourite Hakka places downtown.
Loved the black bean steamed cod fish! Finished an entire bowl of rice with it
First time ordering takeout from here. Was friends recommendation , but I didnt like the food. All dishes looked alike . Not appetizing. Might have been better if we had eaten in the restaurant.
Best in town !!
Delicious food, I recommend the general tao chicken, chili beef and sweet and sour pork!
Its a good place to be dine and take out. The price is right, and the quantity is so good. I will definitely be returning. And there is a lot to select from.
If anyone is going to this place you have to try the chili chicken (dry) ...hands down my go to spot for the chili chicken best I ever had in my opinion. It does tend to get busy there but they do have some specials that are not to expensive. Give it a try good place with good food
The Red door entrance ! Food tastes amazing, I ordered chilli chicken with gravy on rice. It was delicious. Staff is really nice and service was fast for takeout. One of the best Hakka I had in a while. Def. Recommend this place !
Super good food, it was big plate and high quality! The service was the highlight, they are veryvery nice people.
Great food, I love the shrimp fried rice.
Came by for lunch and tried the chili chicken with gravy lunch special and added broccoli. the portions here are massive and it was nice to see that they use freshly fried dark meat for the chicken so it was nice and hot. Servers are efficient but not particularly friendly. They are very busy during lunch.
The best hakka chinese restaurant DT Toronto. Everything we ordered was tasty.
Dry chili chicken is the bomb.
Best Chilli chicken in Toronto !
Service was prompt. Server took into account of my shrimp allergy and recommended a different dish from the one I originally ordered. Food arrived very quickly and was very delicious
The food is ok. Nothing special. But the service is horrendous. I dont understand how this place manages to stay in business with such rude service. You will be standing there forever with waiters and the man at the cash (glasses) ignoring you. After 5 mins of being ignored, I asked if we should seat ourselves and he gave such a curt and rude response about how they are busy right now and tables have to be cleaned so I need to wait. The strange thing is there were plenty of tables ready for seating. The place was only half full. The servers are hit or miss. There are no nice servers - only servers who havent yet decided they hate their lives and cant stand the restaurant. Again, the food is ok, but honestly, its not my first choice for downtown Chinese food. I only go here when time is limited as I work across the street. Venture in at your own risk.
A taste of Indian-Chinese food in the heart of Toronto! Very good food with the Chilli Chicken taking you back to the streets of Calcutta/Kolkata.
Best Hakka in Toronto Its a staple in downtown Food : 5/5
Authentic family style restaurant. The general tao chicken we ordered was ok but somewhat dry. The food took quite some time to get but the servers are very friendly. The indoor atmosphere is very professional compared to the outside look
Ordered a bunch of different dishes, most were good but the chili beef was outstanding. Manchurian chicken was disappointing - as its a restaurant favourite, and a classic hakka dish. The atmosphere is basically nonexistent. It was very loud, and at one point there was an insanely pungent smell that made people cough for a few minutes.
Always bomb.
Best chili chicken in the city! Warm service and huge portions. Always consistent too.
I used to work down the street and liked getting their lunch special - very affordable and filling. I love that it is a family run business and they put so much love into everything.
Been coming to this restaurant for 25 years and have always had great hakka food and amazing service...
First visit after years to this spot behind the city hall... prices remain affordable, service is very good and the food great as before. We ordered fried wantons, shrimp in lobster sauce, crispy chicken, and baby bok choy. The plates are really generous, we had lunch for a couple of days...
I have been coming here since the 90s. Prices have come up a bit, but the excellent value remains the same! Shrimp with lobster sauce is a must have! (Its not really lobster, but very good) Update 2023. Still a solid lunch venue, though hours have been cut back. Not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. Hopefully back up to full hours soon!
One of the best crispy beef in Toronto a family style restaurant, big space, server was nice live everything! And the price is very affordable.
Great lunch resurant. Service is fast and efficient make sure to get your chili chicken dry!
Chili chicken was overrated. The fish fried rice was salty and not very good either. One of the waiters waved us off when a friend was trying to ask for something. NICE!
i have come here for years. the Manchurian chicken is out of this world.
Hands down my favourite Hakka restaurants in the city. The staff is welcoming and attentive. The food....is amazing. Im salivating just typing this review. They are known for their Chili Chicken and Manchurian Chicken, and for good reason. I also recommend the garlic snow pea leaves if youd like to add some veggies to your meal. The serving portion is massive and so I always leave satisfied. Cant wait to go back to Yueh Tung! Parking: Parking available on Elizabeth street itself Kid-friendliness: Staff are great with kids
The Manchurian chicken and crispy ginger beef where our favourites! We also got to chili chicken chowmein and hakka sweet soy which were also good. We got take out and the food kept well!!!
Nice canadian+chines place
Great place and wonderful customer service
Food was ok. But have to say. For an Asian restaurant. The service is top notch
Great Hakkah in downtown Toronto!
Nice Chinese food
Under new management, Yuen Tung has been around for a while, always a good place to have Chinese food on Elizabeth street near City Hall. Parking is scarce on street or use the parking lots across. The food are delicious, try the Manchurian chicken or deep fried Cod or sizzling beef. Their menu has shrunk a little but the favourites are kept. They are on the 2nd floor but there s elevator and wheelchair accessible.
Good old HongKong style food !!
We had the chili chicken & the sweet and sour shrimp. Both were good, and the portion was BIG. I would recommend getting 1 chili chicken for 2 people. We took a lot of it back home to-go. Also loved the fortune cookie at the end! Food
Good place for hakka indian food in toronto downtown.... The chilly chicken was a bit chewy... Food
Always go to this place whenever I visit Canada. Fantastic food.
Terrible.
Fantastic food, friendly staff, and an overall enjoyable experience! We had the wonton noodles and chili chicken (shown in the pictures). Food : 5/5
Very friendly, and fast service. Always happy to talk to you
My go to Chinese Restaurant in Toronto. You have to try the chilli chicken with sauce, it s their staple. We also got fried rice and hot and sour soup which were also fantastic
Good good good good good
Delicious Hakka food! Cant go wrong with the chili chicken since it is the most well-known dish but the chili fish is a hidden gem.
I visited Yueh Tung for the first time with a group of seven. The service was excellent. The waiter was always forthcoming with information about the dishes, whether it was spicy, fatty, etc. He was friendly and helpful. The restaurant was quiet at the time so I was happy about that. The most important part was the food. I am always skeptical about this cuisine but it was amazingly delicious. There was something for everyone. For me, its an hour and a half drive through busy traffic to get there, but its worth the drive. Will happily recommend it to friends and family.
The food was just perfect.
Overrated, don t believe the hype. Chicken was hard and difficult to chew. Only the rice was fresh.
Foreigners should like Italian food very much. Foreigners have sour and sweet tastes. I don t feel Hakka at all
Used to be a nice and humble neighborhood Chinese restaurant I remembered years ago. Heard new management took over and the cooks arent the same from before. And what kind of Chinese restaurant opens at 2 pm on weekends and closed on Mon & Tue? Totally overrated.
Chili chicken is as good as ever.
We love going to this restaurant for amazing Chinese food; their dishes remind us of the Chinese we used to get back home. Flavourful and mouth watering. Their hot and sour soup and chilli beef are a must try.
Love this place for authentic Hakka - been going here for years; decades actually. Wonderful & huge portions. Have the Chilli Chicken or, if you dare, the Manchurian Chicken. I have the fish with vegetables & rice and add siracha - super yummy
Love the foods and services
A downtown surprise! Never knew it was there, they should consider having a sign outside so people know about it when they walk by. Upstairs restaurant, larger than expected, decor is dated. Delicious, authentic Hakka food - we tried the Cantonese chow mein and crispy beef (a must try). Generous portions.
The Chilli Chicken / Chilli Tofu in the GTA Vegetarian options: Highly recommend the Chilli Tofu!! Well-fried tofu in their amazing signature Chilli sauce, served in a very generous portion. Food : 5/5 |
Excellent food and service! Abundant portions (the food was very tasty), the service incredibly fast! Nice environment as well, not noisy, with comfortable seats and tables.
The food was excellent, with service. The price was great...
Tried the chili chicken but did not find it good. It was too hard, dry and tasted frozen. But the hot and sour soup was not bad. Portions are big and place has lots of seating.
These guys knock it out of the park every time! I love Yueh Tung. Great to dine in with a big group, or takeout just for yourself. They do it all:)
Great food, large portions, great prices. I had the General Taos chicken on Shanghai noodles and it was delicious.
Coming here for years. Delicious.
I was reluctant to review this place as its kind of a hidden gem I would like to keep to myself lol. Very spacious and comfortable place to eat (a rarity downtown), nice 2nd floor view. Reasonable prices and good food and servers are actually in a good mood and really friendly.
Amazing meal x food. Friendly staff. Real authentic Chinese Food. Food : 5/5
Excellent hakka Chinese in Toronto downtown , must try hot chicken Pakora, chilli chicken over egg fried rice
Food is great and the location is nice as well.
This was a great experience to have while visiting Toronto. Without much knowledge of what Hakka is, I went hoping for help from the staff. We certainly received this, and much more. The food itself was great! We got the Chili Chicken and a Hakka house Soup and both tasted great. But the experience was what really sealed the deal for us. Our server was fantastic. He was friendly, attentive and had a great attitude. He taught us the proper way to package leftover soup (you need to separate the water and the noodles). He taught us how to properly add containers to the bag. And he taught us how to bag a paper bag in a plastic bag. Obviously, if not obvious, this was all done for fun and we certainly enjoyed our experience here.
Really great food and fast service!!!
We had ordered chilly chicken with hakka noodles but we got something else even by telling the server its the wrong order still they stuck to it the food had no taste dry and not satisfied with overall experience.
It was okay. Nothing great. There portion are too much for one person
We are here again!! It has been 39 years and counting!! The food is always fantastic!! If you are looking for great food this is the place!!!
