La Cubana in Toronto

This was my first trip to La Cubana, I will definitely be back. The food was yummy, the service was delightful, and the Mojitos were delicious!

Charming place with great food. Had the pulled pork and pork belly MediaNoche sandwiches. So GOOD. Some of the best sandwiches I ve ever had. Definitely recommend.

The conch fritters were a new food for me and my friend and they were absolutely delicious! Doughy and soft texture with a crunch exterior, and the dipping sauce it s served with is great.

I ordered the Pork Belly Medianoche. It was amazing!! It was crunch outside and soft inside the fat. It s my favourite spot in the street now

Earlier this week I sat at the booth closest to the door and while waiting for our food noticed three cockroaches. Two on the wall directly behind me and one on the floor under a table across. Instantly made me want to leave.

Visited earlier today and had a great time. Enjoyed the service and food was great. I also love the retro diner vibes.

Absolutely fantastic but went right at opening for lunch for the short rib plate or sandwich and they said they ran out already :(

Dietary restrictions: I found that the wait staff was not particularly accommodating to my food allergies, which was frustrating. I ll give them the benefit of the doubt that it was poor communication and not a lack of empathy Food

I havent been here since pre-covid, but I dont remember the veggie plate being this good . Its protein packed and a huge serving and the grilled tofu steaks are beautiful. Im craving this again today! Staff were also lovely.

After reading the reviews I was set on the pork belly sandwich. When we got there, they did not have pork belly or the burger (that was my second choice) nor did they have a couple of the appetizers. So we ordered the conch fritters (since that was the only shareable left, the other apps are salads) which were good. After our meal, we paid the bill but found it to be higher than any of our table expected. That s when I noticed the restaurant had added a 20% gratuity onto our bill. On the receipt it states 20% gratuity added to all parties of 6 or more when our table clearly had five people at it all night. Not sure if the restaurant was trying to pull a fast one but after this experience we probably won t return to La Cubana

I went there with my partner on Sunday evening for dinner after trying the branch in roncesvalles last month for lunch and loving it. I ordered the pork belly with rice and salad. The dish was dry, tasteless, the meat tasted old and the coleslaw was without dressing. I told the waitress it was dry and that I don t like it, and her solution was to bring a cold gravy sauce they use on the short ribs dish. She didn t even make the effort to heat the sauce up, no apology was given but instead I was given a look of blame for daring to complain. I wasn t even offered a different dish which was disappointing. I don t recommend eating in this branch and won t be visiting again.

Half of the menu was not available, disappointing to be honest. Our order was tasty. Not cuban people working there. The place looks a little dirty, glasses were changed twice as these were not clean. Waitress provided a good service. Food

Overpriced! Visited La Cubana and were unpleasantly surprised: they charged us way too much for mediocre food. The impression was terrible. What should they work on? Just shut down the place?. A complete disappointment, like a pink elephant in the middle of the city.

Took my girlfriend here cuz the Pho place across the street was packed. Food was so incredibly fast, the one server who was working was super nice and its like a top 5 sandwich Ive ever had. Cafe cubano was great too. And the atmosphere is incredible. Nice place

Really yummy food! Got the Cuban medianoche sandwich and yuca frita and they were so full of flavor. The restaurant was very cute as well and prices were reasonable.

My sister and I visited Toronto for the first time and we were looking for a good meal. We stumbled upon this quaint Cuban restaurant and saw that it had great reviews. As a Cuban person and from the states we decided to try it. First of all, the server was a sweetheart. It was near closing and after explaining my dilemma he managed to accommodate us. He was very pleasant, served us quickly and always with a smile. Great customer service! Anyway, we both ordered the pulled pork with congre rice (black beans mixed with rice) as well as the pickled slaw. The meal was absolutely delicious and authentic. In my opinion, It is very had to make congre and for it to taste authentic, as well as the pulled pork. The flavor was amazing. The pickled slaw had a little bit of a fusion twist but combining it with the pork and rice was amazing. If I m ever in the Toronto area I will definitely stop by again.

During my recent visit to Toronto, my niece highly recommended La Cubana for lunch, and I m so glad I took her advice! My sister, who is a vegetarian, joined me, and I was pleased to find that the restaurant was quite accommodating to her dietary preferences. At first, I had a bit of confusion at the entrance. I tried opening the door marked with the number 92, only to find it locked. Thankfully, I saw another customer enter through the adjacent glass door, which actually leads to the restaurant. Had it not been for him, I would have assumed the place was closed! Once inside, we were greeted warmly by Gautier, who immediately made us feel welcome. I was caught off guard when he asked if I had ever been to Cuba Ive never visited, nor had I ever tried Cuban food before. But Gautier was incredibly friendly and walked us through the menu, making the experience even better. Though I was hoping for more beer options, Gautier offered their house beer (the name escapes me), and to my surprise, I absolutely loved it! For our meals, my sister ordered the Veggie Medianoche along with a Mango Juice, while I opted for the Chorizo Burger (I hope I pronounced it correctly). The burger was mouthwatering, with perfectly seasoned meat and fresh toppings like tomato and dressings. My sister enjoyed her veggie burger, which came loaded with queso fresco, avocado, tomato, cucumber, and arugula. Adding a special kick to the meal, Gautier brought over a Cuban Mango Habanero hot sauce, which added just the right punch to my burger spicy yet fruity, making the meal even more flavorful. The mango juice was refreshing and paired well with the food. Both dishes were not only super delicious but also filling. Paired with the house beer and Gautiers attentive service, it was a delightful dining experience. I ll definitely make it a point to visit La Cubana every time I m in Toronto! Highly recommended for great food, friendly service, and a memorable meal. Vegetarian options: Veggie Burger was really good.

The food is amazing, one of the places in town overall! The pork belly and the beef with guava sauce are always cook to perfection. The staff is friendly and the place has a great atmosphere.

Was wondering around Osington Street and came across this place and went in to try the sandwich. Solid cubana sandwich.

Good food

The restaurant is cozy, with a pleasant interior that creates a comfortable atmosphere. The food is also good. The only disappointment was the service, which left a negative impression.

Super tasty pressed cubano, had pork and ham and cheese. Not enough pickles or mustard for my taste but that is totally subjective. Also 20$ including tax for one medium sized cuban sandwich hurts! But thats the day and age we live in I suppose.

A real surprise for us was this restaurant. It transported us to the Cuba of yesteryear! An excellent meal, fusing authentic Cuban cuisine with modern touches. We left there very satisfied! I recommend it 100%!

This is a cute spot with good food and good service. I would rate it 4.5/5 overall if I could - the non-5-star is because I got the the chicken in my Cuban Plate Achiote Chicken was very mediocre. While well cooked and appearing well seasoned, it had little flavor. The yuca fries were good, although the garlic sauce that came with it was a little strange and not as garlic as we would have it liked. The mango colada that I had was also good more like a juice than a frozen drink. We enjoyed the jicama salad as well, it was very simple. Overall, a good spot with good - but not stellar - food.

Food was ok but they are very stingy and the place wasn t the cleanest. We ordered two diet cokes with our meal and they poured one can into two glasses and charged us each, asked for the can and was told it s their policy. One of two washrooms wasn t working and the other was quite dirty.

Best sandwich I ve ever had hands down. Had the Cubano medianoche, ingredients were so fresh, everything complicated each other perfectly, and washed it down with their own branded cervesa.

I had the Cubana medianoche from here and it was genuinely the greatest sandwich I ve ever had. 10/10 recommend this place its a must visit if you re in Toronto.

I was here at this restaurant to pick up an uber order. Firstly, the one of the employee forced me to confirm that order, than he said that the order has been picked up by another person. This kind of behaviour of employees here is not commendable at all.

Came to try the Pressed Cubano. It was good, a little expensive for what it is.

I ordered catering from La Cubana for a large group and everything arrived perfectly and on time. A few from my group had dietary restrictions but La Cubana was able to accommodate all of them. I ordered party trays of the Jicama Salad, Red Cabbage Slaw, Tostones with Cilantro Crema, Bean and Cheese Empanadas, Cuban Medianoche, and the Avocado Salad with Tofu. I enjoyed the Jicama Salad and the Avocado Salad with Tofu which I found super refreshing. The tofu was well seasoned, grilled and almost tasted meat like. I also liked the Bean and Cheese Empanadas and the Cuban Medianoche quite a bit. The Empanadas here are generously sized. The Tostones was a bit on the dry side but still tasty and good to pair with the other items I ordered.

I got the achiote roasted chicken which was very underseasoned and incredibly dry to a level which I thought was impossible for chicken thigh - dryer than overcooked breast. The rice and beans were the only good part of the plate; the red cabbage coleslaw was underwhelming and the plantain tasted like it was left out for hours. The restaurant itself is cool, but it s charging restaurant prices for food court quality food. You could get better chicken with comparable sides at any family owned Caribbean restaurant for half the price.

I got the Guava BBQ short ribs plates. The beans in the rice are so creamy, and the short ribs are super tender, with a slight hint of guava taste. I love having the slight tang of the coleslaw on the side to cut through the richness of everything. The tostones were still crispy considering it was delivered!

I had the Pressed Cubana and it was phenomenal. I wish I tried this place before. It is a must try.

If you re looking for Cuban food, this is not it. Service was bad, the restaurant lacks variety, and the little amount of food they do offer is bad. Save your time and go somewhere else.

I only had a couple of other Cuban places in Toronto and they were absolutely horrible. This place has restored my faith that there is good Cuban food. A couple of criticisms would be its a little pricey and I would have liked more pickles in my cubano but everything else was spot on especially the bread.

Oh my god the burger at this place!! Very nice staff. Took a bit long for the food to be delivered by probably because we were so hungry it looked like that! Food is just really good!

Reliable, tasty, and strong cocktails. This place is tried and true. Every time I go, I m always left satisfied. They do have a patio but it is quite small. The inside area is also small, can seat maybe 15 people. So it gives a very cozy, unique vibe. The staff are kind, and the portion sizes are quite large. Definitely a great place to go if you re looking for tasty Cuban sandwiches and vacation style cocktails.

$17 plus tax grilled cheese sandwich with some ham. Hardly a Cuban sandwich with the lack of pickles and sauce. Not worth the price for a small sandwich. I was fooled by the attractive branding.

We bought take away some yucca fries and tostones, qot quite disappointed with was they called tostones. Probably didn t have anymore green plantain, it tasted like my mum s sweet fries bananas we had for dessert. Quite disappointed as this is very basic to make Food

I am so in love had my first date here a year ago and revisited for our anniversary and the service was fantastic everyone was chatty and accommodating. They were so sweet and let us sit at the front until a table in the gorgeous back bar opened up. We lucked out and they were serving empanadas! We ordered them, the ham and cheese croquettas, pork belly plate, and the pressed cubanos. Oh every bite was perfection. The mango habanero margs are to die for will stay loving and repping La cubana 4eva

I tried it at the well branch, too pricy , a tiny piece of chicken(a size of a small nugget in a burger size bun ) in the chicken sandwich for 20$ !!! Even the taste is not yummy . I don t recommend it .

Great place for a quick bite and drink whenever you are in ossington. I ve been here a few times but mostly for drinks and appetizers late at night, but we decided to have lunch here on a Sunday and luckily there was no line. The service is fast and the servers are great with good recommendations. The food and drinks are good too. The only down side is they sell out of their beers so fast, but that s how you know it s food! We got the guava fizz (great), conch fritters (we could live off of these), cuban burger (loved this) and the pork shoulder plate (our other dishes were better).

Stopped in on a whim and was blown away. Highly recommend their fried pork belly plate and cubana. Definitely coming back for more.

Hadnt been here in over a year and food is still delicious. I had the Guava BBQ short rib plate and my husband ordered the Pork Shoulder plate. Both were fantastic.

Staff was welcoming and really cared about our experience, they were kind enough to recommend their favourites as it was our first time. Great time here with the whole clean and vibrant ambience and the food was delicious! 10/10

My partner and I stopped in at La Cubana on Ossington on Wednesday, March 27 for early dinner. The restaurant itself is incredibly clean, and very well designed. The server/bartender that welcomed us was incredibly cordial and pleasant, and served us quickly. I had the guava BBQ short rib plate and my partner had the pork plate. I also had the La Havana cocktail. To say the food and drink were amazing honestly does not do it justice. This place is incredible! We will absolutely come back again.

The food was nice, but we were left looking for servers even though we were sitting at the counter, it was very difficult to get a hold of anyone to give our order or request for the bill in a not-so-busy restaurant. Will do a take out if I happen to go there again!

I ve been here over 5 times and am continuously impressed! The cool green tiles on the wall, the retro bar seating, the prompt service, and the delicious food keeps me coming back and recommending it to others. My favorite dish is the Guava bbq short rib medianoche. Get it!!!!! Don t think, just get it!!! The meat is sooo juicy, literally it ll be dripping down your fingers and onto the plate. Every bite is bursting with flavor and the bun is beyond yummy (coming from someone who doesn t really like bread). I dream about this dish sometimes. The plates are also really great options. I always walk away from La Cubana really full and satisfied.

I know times are tough, but damn. One small chicken thigh for the $17 sandwich that doesnt even cover 2/3rds of the bun. Jicama salad was totally drowned in vinaigrette. They didnt have the pressed Cubano available (which is what I came for), but the Cubano was good, served fresh and hot. Went at 6:30pm on a Tuesday and half the proteins/sandwichs werent available. The chicken sandwich above feels as if they were trying to stretch what was left. Disappointing experience.

OMG, worth the drive to La Cubana, food is to die and kill for, the atmosphere is great with great Cuban music. This place Saturday night with a hot Cuban band would kill anything else in TO. Must must must for a visit.

Delicious and tasty Cuban sandwich!! The guava short rib was fall off the bone tender, and came with rice and beans which were well seasoned. The yuca frites were incredible, super light and airy but so crispy and delicious. The conch fritters were fresh to order.

The food was very average for the price listed. I paid around $65 for two plates that should not have been more than $40 at best.

I love this area in Toronto because theres so many spots to eat and explore and so many things to do. My fiancé is obsessed with Cuban sandwiches (he just watched that Chef movie and series on Netflix so I guess I cant blame him). I actually went here on a solo date and I loved it! I felt very comfortable here, theyre very solo date friendly. The staff was wonderful. The waitress convinced me to get a side of fries and she was honestly so right for that! So I ordered the classic Pressed Cubano which has Ham/Pork, Gruyere cheese, Red Onions, Comichon, Grainy mustard and Chipotle mayo; I had their side of fries as well as a Cafe Con Leche. The sandwich was SO good - I absolutely love Gruyere and Chipotle mayo - unbelievable. I was actually so surprised at how good the Cafe Con Leche was! I saw people come in to just get that to-go and go along about their day and I honestly will be doing the same if Im ever in the neighborhood again. Nothing hits like their Cuban coffees and sandwiches. Next time, I do want to try one of their plates that has plaintains, the people around me ordered that and I feel like I must get it next!

Too many condiments and too little meat on the short rib burger, out of a few things, server disappeared for long periods.

I have tried the BBQ Beef short rib plate and it was absolutely amazing. The beef is so tender and juicy with a perfect sauce on top to add even more flavor. The rice and the salad are also perfect. The plate also comes with plantain but they were out when I visited. In addition, we also tried their lime pie/ cheesecake and it was the perfect dessert to end off our meal. The vibe at the restaurant is also very vibrant and welcoming. I would definitely come back!

It would be a 5/5 if the service was better. The food is amazing, I love the place. It is one of those places that got famous and now it is impossible to get a table, and the tables are too cramped. The only problem I see is that it is so busy, and the servers are not able to perform better due to the short staff. Btw the happy hour rocks.

ordered a cortado for after meal was done and received 2 before the main was served. lack of communication skills there. as well as there were no cutlery given when the main dish was served as well as when the cortadito was served. but the staffs apologetic attitude was there so ill give them that. other than that, the food and the coffee was spectacular highly recommend going! a very nice atmosphere there and theres a hidden bar. i love the space and transparency. probably get better service by the bar.

Went for a date at La Cubana and absolutely loved it! The place has such a vibrant ambiance, and the music, brimming with Cuban rhythms, sets a lively scene. The place used to be a favourite. Went yesterday and felt I only got bread in my sandwich. The meat was barely there in an 18$ sandwich. Not a good value for sure.

3.5/5 I had the pork belly plate and the conch fritters. The pork belly itself was lightly seasoned and tender, lending well to the sweet glaze. I wish that the outer crust was crunchier and that there was more of the glaze. The rice and beans felt pretty savoury and is classic with the pork for a reason. I appreciated the large amount of the acidic cabbage cause I think it was needed. I could personally pass on the plantain. The conch fritters were ok. I dont think their was much conch but it tasted alright. Portion for the pork plate was great, considering the amount of conch in the fritters I wouldve wanted more fritters. The service was service, nothing standout, got the job done.

Veggie Sandwich was very fresh and delicious. Yuca fries was good, golden brown and other special sauce and spicy sauce. Great ambience and service. I will come back for vegetarian plate and different sides next time.

This is a cool spot with a bar in the back that most people dont notice. You can go through the doors and enter the bar. We didnt eat anything like a meal but got a couple snacks such as the fries. The food was not great but I think this is more of a drinks spot. Since we had drinks before coming here we didnt order any here but would be down to come and try drinks. Id visit this place if youre in the area and want to explore something cool.

If we leave the parking problems aside, this small joint is pretty good. Also, it has a secret bar if you keep walking in. Regarding the food, it is good but almost all the dishes need some hot sauce on the side to add a bit of spice to the generally bland flavor. Vegetarian options: One vegetarian plate.

everything about this place is perfect. the food, the atmosphere, the service. Their signature cubano sandwich is superb. The cubano burger is also a must try! Very big portions for pretty affordable price. If you ever pass by Ossington, please give this restaurant a try :)

I usually dont leave many reviews about the restaurants I visit but for La Cubana I need to make an exception. At La Cubana not only is the food excelent (even the vegetarian options) but also the atmosphere, the music and especially the customer service. All of them are great but especially Gautier, Glen and Alphard will assist you and take care of all the details to ensure that your stay at La Cubana meets your expectations. I love coming to La Cubana for any type of food but I especially want to recommend the Veggie Plate or also the Rice and Beans. Friends tip: add a touch of spicy sauce to the rice and beans

This is one of my favorite spots along the Ossington strip. The food, music and drinks are always up to par; and if you have excellent company, then its a win-win.

Great sandwiches.

A nice diner vibe spot with good food, excellent service and a surprising speakeasy type backroom. The food is good and unpretentious, a mix of cuban staples including yuca fries and fried plaintain. Their sandwiches are delicious and fairly large portion. The spot looks like an old school diner complete with a booths and kitchy signs. The staff are super friendly and helpful. If you keep walking to the back, they offer a speakeasy type area where you can have the same food but different cocktails. That part felt a bit out of place considering the patio style furniture used for this seemingly elevated section, which in itself doesn t mesh with the front of the spot. Also, the cocktails in the restaurant were honestly better than the more pretentious offerings in the back.

absolutely AMAZING pressed cubano sandwich... the buttery baguette-type bread its on is soooo good too, crunchy on the outside soft inside. just such an amazing sandwich 10/10 definitely recommended !!!!
