805 Dovercourt Rd, Toronto, ON M6H 2X4, Canada
Dovercourt House has been a hub of various artistic activities and ventures for the past 18 years providing high-quality studio and event space for such varied activities as swing, salsa, bachata, kizomba, tango, the ’80s, country, Irish folk, waltz, and square dances: capoeira, contact improvisation, dance jams, movement meditation, dance therapy, expressive arts, studio performances, tai chi, and yoga: artist rehearsals for productions and shows and: many private functions such as birthday parties, stags, weddings, fetish parties, office parties and private dinner/dances among other happenings.
It's been hosting various events and it's great usually great time for weekend dancing.
Check out for events. Brilliant atmosphere. Nice music and large rooms
Good venue. Grassroots/roots in the community. Solid floors, great views. Clean and functional bathrooms.
Great place to start your dance journey! Made loads of friends and also honed my new found passion for bachata and salsa
AC did not work, so it was pretty hot inside. The venue itself is really nice.
Come here to challenge yourself to dance, it's not easy it's not comfortable. It's exhilarating! You'll get a chaotic hour of training and then you're on your own to dance with a partner if you're don't want to test your skills as well as your ego. Or..... You can put your foot and your mouth to the test, ask someone to dance and have a blast learning how to chat up a partner, how to deal with a NO, and how to have fun without a crutch. Both emotionally and physically! Lol!
Great space to dance and have fun. Clean, convenient.
We hold our Kids Yoga Teacher Training at Dovercourt House and it gives us a lot of space for adults to learn how to teach yoga and mindfulness to children. Plus there is so much room for kids to do yoga and play games in our practicum.
Good place
Great space to dance!
I had an amazing time!
Best hardwood dancefloor and best bar with cheap drinks! Events are phenom!
Great ambience and a great place to practice bachata and cuban salsa
Dancing salsa and Bachata on Friday and Sundays is the best!
Awesome venue. So much fun dancing there!
Its a great place to dance, I just wish it were accessible. It genuinely cant be that hard to put in an elevator so that folks in wheelchairs can join us dancing.
niceee
Amazing place for salsa and bachata dancing in toronto
The Salsa social is awesome.
love it
Hosts excellent salsa events with a very vibrant and welcoming crowd. Needs air conditioning though. Update: 2024-04-24 They now have AC. :o
Latin dancing on Friday night. So well organized and fun!
Your one-stop shop for dance, dance dance! Love Contact Improv every Wednesday and Friday night.
It s been going there to learn salsa
It is an amazing place for dance and also has in the basement a beautiful bar with top quality drinks and costumer service. They are the best
This was a great location for a dance event. Learned and experienced so much.
Historical Dance building... The move, ecstatic dance is on the 4th floor
Such an amazing swing night. The teachers were really encouraging, and I learned a lot....they also had a live band!
Great AA meeting every Saturday 6 pm
Best place to dance salsa and bacahata- Fridays and Sundays.
Splendid place; spacious and well maintained! The staff was amazing to work with
Love learning to dance here.
My favorite place to dance:)
Home to all styles of dance. Workshops, classes, jams sometimes with live music.I go to contact improvisation and The Move( you can bring kids there too), and theres so much more to explore at this place.
During COVID this place has been renovated and it is great to go dance there. Apart from Salsa and Bachata, there are other classes such as Lindy Hop and Swing.
The best spot in Toronto for salsa and bachata. Epic music and parties and even more epic people!
I ve danced in many places but the atmosphere on a Sunday night at the Dovercourt house is like no other. Everyone is friendly, mature, willing to meet new people, patient, understanding and empathetic. It s not the kind of atmosphere in which you need to rely on alcoholic beverages to have a good time, that to me speaks volumes.
Went salsa dancing at Dovercourt on Sun night. The average dancer here is much nicer than I expected. Venue is a good size too. Had a great time! This is one of those times where I wished that I stayed longer than I did.
Nice
amazing venue! Drove from Ottawa for a special event and we were blown away!
Wonderful place to dance at
STUSSY ARCHIVE if youre coming today, its closed/sold out
Dance Social Hub! If youre looling for a dance club alternative, try a dance social hosted here, especially if on 1st floor. The floors are clean. Im part of the Latin dance crowd. I come almost always on my own and I dance with partners who I recognize or dance with someone new. Alcohol is sold at reasonable prices. Depending upon the event, lighting is regular room letting, or DJs set up their own to make it more club like. Parking can be a challenge as spots in neighbourhood are reserved for permits at midnight. Park on Bloor for uninterrupted after midnight parking. Ossington Station is really close. Downside is theres no A/C so summer dancing can be very uncomfortable!
An authentic building in downtown
Love this place for dance related events. A hub for the Toronto dance scene
Try Gaga!!
They offer so many types of dance, I cant help but give them 5 stars! The bathrooms are always clean and the smooth wooden floors are great for protecting your shoes (not to mention your joints!!!) while busting a move. Ive danced waltz, swing, charleston and bachata here. All fantastic. I am aware they also serve contact dance, salsa, bachata, contemporary, argentinian tango, and more. They host workshops, classes and social dances. My favourite is the Saturday night Swing dance social that they host EVERY Saturday with live music! The entry cost is discounted for full time students and includes 1 hour charleston beginner lesson, then 1 hour lindy hop lesson, then the social dance runs from 9 til midnight and you can ask anyone to dance! Dont be afraid to decline, as everyone is friendly and gracious. Dress code is a wide range: from casual or athletic to classy and snapppy. The different dances are supported by a variety of different organizations, so unfortunately there currently (as of Jan 2020) a single website or source to find out about all the different types of dance offered there. Youd have to physically go there to discover all the details if you want to know everything. The last detail I can provide is that the building has 4 floors of dancing. So often there are several types of dance happening at once!
The place is great, but there is only one bathroom for men. Why?
The Forró class I attend has used Dovercourt both for classes and events. Last week we were at the room at the top of the stairs- quite a hike up, not accessible. And no A/C- and from the looks of it, many dance groups use this space.
Great place to dance. Wooden floors, high ceilings and lots of light. Big new fans installed to ventilate in the summer
Great place to dance in, the only disadvantage is that theres not enough parking spots in the area.
Went to this nifty place for tango lessons. Was full of energy and packed to the brim of people dressed up to storm the dance floor or learn the basics. Very friendly and lively bunch. Couldve been cleaner, but thats Winter for you.
Need more fans its always yo hot
Really affordable for location. Love the space and use it alot
Amazing place to dance and socialise
One if the best places to dance
I was taking bachata classes with the Araguacu group and it was amazing. Loved every class and the people.
Excellent place to go out dancing with your friends or just go alone, there are many people dancing and enjoying a good drink. Without a doubt a place to find the type of person who likes to dance salsa all night and non-stop. In addition, there are changes of rhythm but always maintaining the Latin flavor in bodies from all over the world.
I love Dovercourt house because it has so many floors, rooms and often events(dance and other) in each during normal (non-covid) times in particular. I just wish they redid the floors in the main floor main room as its starting to warp noticeably when dancing.
Classic spot to go dancing in T-dot!
Very fun!
Great night out every time
So so
I love Dovercourt house for The Move on Friday nights and Ecstatic dance Monday and Tbursdays. The ladies room on the second floor could use some major cleaning and soap is often missing on Friday. But love it there.
Fun place to put on your swing shoes
Essential establishment
home of toronto dance community
Great place for the novice salsa dancer. However, can get very warm during the event as there is poor ventilation.
Dovercourt House on Dovercourt Road, Toronto, is a spacious building that provides studios for dance and associated activities that require floor space. in keeping with venues of this kind, upkeep is a substantial load on resources and the premises are not glorious but the floors are good, rooms have mirrors, and the building is kept comfortably warm during cold winter months which is a major benefit when it matters to keep limbs loose. Floor space can be rented at competitive prices and Dovercourt fits the bill for economically priced studios in Toronto.
Some time @ Dame tu Bachata music sucks.
Too hot in summer...its a sauna. Floors are ok. Vibe is great!
Good time slow dance party!
This place is an altar for dance and movement exploration. Everyone should experience it. :)
Love this place. All kinds of dance happen here every day and night of the week. A real cultural hub for dance
This is one of my go to place for dancing. Various groups come here such as contact dance , ecstatic dance , salsa , and all kinds. Cover charges very reasonable and you can just show up. No booking necessary. Really chill place.
Their dance events are a lot of fun.
Salsa night is way too crowded. WCS night is fun
Fantastic place for social dancing!
I attended watlz dancing social on the top floor. The atmosphere is friendly. The music is great. All dancers - beginners and advanced- looked happy and comfortable. Bring your own water bottle, though.
Nice place!
This place really needs AC, its a great place to dance other than that
estatic dance on fridays . friendlly enviroment. Great atmosphere to find yourself wirh dance movement or what ever you want to do.
Dance hall . large space went to estatic dance we enjoyed it thoroughly. Street parking . get there early to get a number. Limited space.
This once elegant home from yesteryear doesnt look classy, but some great dances of many styles here.
One of the only places in the city for community dancing with LIVE BANDS! From salsa to swing. Queer safe spaces its good for all. They serve water bottles and straws though... Very bad.
Nice place!
Great venue for dancing
Im happy that I went. Good friendly dance atmosphere.
Went for the Saturday night Swing dancing and live band. Lots of fun!
So much fun there !!!
Great place to dance Latin Dances!
Spacious but cozy community center
If what youre looking for the dance, Dovercourt House is where to find it.
Fun
Nothing special, but it works.
Great place for private parties and weddings!
Best place to dance salsa
Love this place. It is great place for parties and events. It is a great communities center. A lot of fun here. Id definitely recommend this place to all my friends.
Nicely used space by event planners. Space is a bit sparse otherwise
Dovercourt house is a nice venue. The room we used was spacious, clean and comfortable. Definitely versatile for any type of event. The downfalls of this venue is there is a lot of stairs and no elevator, and our room had no air conditioning.
A place to go to for social dancing and lessons. There is a licensed bar during social hours. The only downside is lack of a/c. They have plenty of fans but be prepared to sweat.
A nice atmosphe place for those who loves social dancing
Sunday night place to be for Salsa / kizomba dance!
Great space for dance events.
Very good place for different dances but the building needs more safety attention and lots of renovations.
Lots of fun. Great dance hall!
Great place for dancing!
Good dance stuio
Great place for swing dancing. Can be hot since theres no A/C (unless it was just broken the day I was there)
We went to see popy 3 times for learning how to dance, for someone like us with no experience at all was amazing, we learned a lot
Clean
Cozy and welcoming. Nice community for sure.
Nicely sprung floors, old building charm, large space
It is the best place to swing dance on a Saturday night. Always lots of people and a great band.
Good dancing space, great atmosphere and homey architecture.
Great place to learn and dance
Great location. Nice rooms!
Tried ecstatic dancing. Interesting way to unwind after a long day. Great healthy safe community.
The Friday night salsa classes are so much fun!
Friendly people
This place has potential. It sounds like it used to realize its potential back in the day. The comments about stairs and lack of air conditioning are legitimate. Truthfully, its a HEALTH HAZARD and should be treated as one. During the summer months, classes with 10-20 people can bring temperatures up to sauna levels...imagine a packed social. Each floor is individually owned. In fairness to patrons, collectively, they should invest in adequate air conditioning. Resident salsa/bachata djs typically play good music. Unfortunately, the kizomba dj does not. Guest kizomba djs tend to play more diverse, crowd friendly selections that keep dancers active. Overall, there is a high school clique vibe at most socials that can feel unwelcoming.
Great place to dance (salsa/kizomba) on a Sunday.
No too hot at summer
So much fun! For $17 a head we had swing lessons and then danced the night away to a live band!! Bonus... Bar with affordable drinks!
