Had dim sum in DIM SUM KING in China Town. We ordered Gen Tao chicken, sea food fried rice, sprig rolls , both shrimp and chicken, Roast Duck, pan fried shrimp and chives dumplings, har- gow, beef ribs, and white rice. Food was good. Bill came to $153 plus tips. Good service , attentive service.

The restaurant was spacious and not busy on a weekday. All of the dishes we ordered were OK, I’ve had better dim sums. In my opinion the radish cake could be crispier on the outside. The soup dumplings wrapping was thick and filling wasn’t the best. Nonetheless it was reasonably priced and the serving size is good.

This place is legit. My favorite place to go with my wife is in Boston and damn this place holds up. Hot tea was served practically before we even sat down. The room is huge with a very large dance floor where you can strut your stuff to workout the ridiculous amount of food you will be eating. Everything we ate was really tasty and definitely from scratch. Some highlights for us include the pork buns and likely the best shumai I've ever had. Got some short ribs in some honey sauce crispy fried. I mean damn. We also got these hockey Puck sized delicious filled things with meat and veggie oh man. Belly was full Can't wait to take the Mrs Also dancing? Brilliant

Dim Sum King is as authentic as you can get - this is one of the few remaining places that has staff pushing the carts with dishes around. The prices here are pretty good relative to other places in Chinatown. The food is okay. The best thing we had was the pan fried shrimp dumpling, which I've never had at any other restaurant. Otherwise the rest of the typical dim sum dishes were good. The issue was the curry cuttlefish - it had a really fishy smell to it and honestly wasn't that good. Overall though still happy to see places like this around!

Visited with a group of family and relatives during a recent visit. It’s a fairly okay to decent dim sum in Chinatown, as they serve dim sum more traditionally using carts as opposed to using only order forms. During weekends, they seem to be fairly busy as most tables were filled even during the late morning to early afternoon so there may be a wait if arriving right at Noon or later. They offer many of the classic dim sum staples along with a few cooked noodle and entree-style dishes. Most dim sum came fairly freshly made and some of the wait staff were able to point out what the item was. They also offer a la carte items but you would need to ask for a menu if ordering off it instead of their dim sum.

Went here this past weekend with some friends. Some of the food was good while some of it really was not good at all. My favorite food by far was the pork buns because they literally came fresh out of the kitchen. The food comes on plates and is served by waiters who walk around with the food on carts. You tell them how many plates of food you want and it is shared by everyone at the table. The bad part about this is you can tell which food is not popular because when it comes to your table it is cold. Had some chicken wings and those were completely cold and I only took one bite and left it on my tray. It was an interesting experience but I wouldn’t go back again.

Met up with some friends for dim sum. They have the traditional push cart with a various dim sum dishes. If you do not want to wait for the push cart to arrive, can take your check and go up to the push cart and ask for the dish that you want. Weekend this place can get packed. Week days not so crowded, don't expect your favorite dim sum dish to be available. Service was good. For people that have not experience dim sum, they do have a menu with the photo and name of the dish.

One of my favorite spots for dim sum in China Town. Dishes are reasonably priced and made well. My favorite is their Cheung fan and squid. Staff is always really friendly and accommodating. Love the decor as it takes me back to the classic Chinese restaurants of the 90s and early 00s. They have a huge menu so there's definitely something for everyone. Highly recommend!

One of my favorite restaurants, whether its for dim sum or not, is Dim Sum King. The staff are the best - friendly and attentive to your needs. You can relax and enjoy your meal at your own pace. However, it does get extremely busy here on weekends and holidays, so its best to go early, preferably before 11 am. The ladies with the carts are the hardest working and sweetest. The pinnacle of the meal is the pan-fried shrimp dumplings with chives - a must-have. Just wait for your meal to pass by on a cart and scoop it up. Enjoy your breakfast, lunch, or dinner!

First experience at this restaurant- the staff was very courteous and attentive. They were very helpful with making sure we got our dim sum orders even if the food wasnt currently out on the carts: the child in our party was very impressed that they had 3 different flavours of congee and had the traditional pork and the plain one which we ended up having leftovers that we transformed into a sinigang-arroz caldo hybrid but thats more for another day. This is what we ordered: Har gow, siomai, chicken feet (still not my thing), deep fried short ribs with honey lemon sauce, pork and preserved egg congee, plain congee, rice noodle roll with shrimp, pan fried seafood pancake, and deep fried sesame balls. The traditional hacao was decent, Im told the siomai was quite good but wouldnt know because it disappeared before I had any. I really loved the seafood pancake. The Cantonese Chow Mein was a bit of a miss for me because the calamari was the thin kind and so it ended up a little over cooked and rubbery, and the sauce on the noodles was a little too salty so the real flavour was muted by comparison. The texture and consistency of the noodles were okay. The short ribs were a definite highlight- loved the seasoning on it as it wasnt as super sweet as most kalbi. The sesame balls were massive: but the superfan at our table is used to the filling being a red bean paste and this was I believe a mung bean paste so the superfan gave it no stars. Pro tip: use an air fryer for seafood pancake and cantonese chow mein leftovers: the crispy mixed with the soaked in flavor definitely made these dishes better second time around.

We always come here when in Toronto as its one of the few push cart dim sum experiences left anywhere. Was disappointed this time as the main floor was being renovated and dim sum was ordered this time around which kind of defeated the purpose of coming, as there werent any cart service. But still love the food at this place. So good

There was an old lady who was selling shrimp dumplings and she was grumpy and the lobby manager wanted a 10% tip and her attitude was not very friendly. The amount of the tip depends on the service. First, the attitude of the lady who sells shrimp dumplings. Second, if she ordered fried rice noodles from her hometown, she got Xingzhou fried rice btw. We Also tipped 8%

Great food with reasonable price but dont expect any service there. Nice for a big groups over 5-6 people since they have rows of big round tables full in this restaurant. Placed on the 3rd floor overlooking the streets of Chinatown. Definitely try their pan-fried Shrimp & Chives dumplings, Shiumais, Hagaos, ... their Dimsum selection is better than the dinner menus! Seems like they serve them all way. Wont be so suitable for people with diet restrictions, though. They use lots of eggs and meat in the dish.

Consistently on all the lists of Toronto s Chinatown best restaurants, we just had to check out Dim Sum King for our first night in Toronto. My dad loves dim sum and fresh seafood, Cantonese-style. This place did not disappoint! Portions were generous, and the seafood and vegetables were fresh. Service was pretty fast, too. I made reservations just in case, but I don t think I needed to, as there were many tables available when we went, 6:30pm on a Tuesday. Would definitely come here again the next time I m in Toronto!

My go-to place for dim sum. Traditional carts.

September 22, 2024

We called before coming. Do you have waiting staff passing by with carts? Yes, yes! All day? Yes, yes! Foul smell greets us upon arriving on the 3rd floor. Very few people inside. Greeter hurries us, but not in a totally unfriendly manner. Just the traditional, and Asian go sit down! We do, and a waitress throws menus on the table with a pencil Choose! I reply, We re here for cart service! She says No, no cart! Another waitress with better command of the English comes by and tells us: Cart not good. Not many people, so cart food go around and around and is cold, not fresh. Choose menu! And in the meantime, two waitresses are going around pushing carts with food that (she was right) does not look good by they insist: Noodle? Vegetable? Shrimp? And they find some tourists happy to say yes to their awful offerings. We order a few things from the Dim Sum menu. The prices have exploded, and the portions shrunk! A plate of bad Snow Pea Leaves has no taste and costs $21; each plate of Dim Sum contains pitiful rolls or other items that are not only costing $4.50 to $9.50 each but are not refined and tasty as we were used to pre-Covid. Total price? $109 for 6 tiny plates of Dim Sum and one of Snow Pea Leaves for 2 adults and 2 children. To end our ordeal, the waiter must add a tip. He takes the card and presses 15% service (which was none existent and we were telling him we want to give tip in cash as we wanted to leave only 10% = $11) he put through the total with 15% telling us it s the minimum!!! Please avoid at all cost. A tourist trap!!!

Located inside Maindale Mall between Grange Place and Huron Street, Dim Sum King is a seafood restaurant that serves all day dim sum, can host banquets, and dinner. Theyre located on the third floor with a sketchy looking elevator in the mall. In the early morning hours serving Chinatown and surrounding nearby population, they have dim sum cart people that walk around with pre-steamed food. During other hours in the day, they provide a paper sheet to mark down food quantity requests and provides a separate sheet for visuals for customers that do not know what items look like. Their cost of food items is arranged by size and are located on both the order sheet and visual picture sheet. Their cost ranges from $4.60 (S), $5.50 (M), $6.60 (L) and $7.60 (XL). During regular hours, dim sum is steamed fresh and decent in size and quality. Staff are fluent in English to talk to customers that require assistance. Food was decently sized and fills the dim sum cravings!

Been here on two occasions in the last few months and both times were slightly different. The food is good quality and they do a good job keeping fresh items moving. Dim Sum King is evidently a busy and well beloved joint and going away from peak hours is heavily important. The first time visiting we lucked into a late afternoon Saturday, it was bustling but tables were free (this is the key). Second time was nearer breakfast on a Sunday and it was packed to the gills, we had to wait on a table. The pain with so many patrons is popular dishes immediately get scooped up and your table placement can be the defining factor of your experience. Not to say either visit was bad. Overall service is happy and attentive, expect a whirlwind of staff moving around. Again the food is classic fare and if you cant grab a plate from a cart just ask for a direct order. Pricing is in line with many other dim sum spots, be mindful of grabbing the large dishes.

When they did, the food was subpar and tasted frozen/freezer burnt. We complained and nothing was done. One of our 5 dishes never even came out after almost 30 minutes of waiting. We asked a server about it, he pretended to do something and never updated us after another 10 minutes afterwards. We just got up, paid our bill and left 0% tip. Normalize not tipping at Chinese restaurants with this level of customer service and $h1t food. Go to Rol San, Rosewood or Wok Theory instead if you want a more pleasurable dim sum experience. We did go on a weekend, so it was busy - it was very difficult to locate a server to help get us water. They do use steam carts, but as we were so far away from the kitchen, they did not make it to our table until the rush passed. We had to get up and get it ourselves, or we wouldnt have eaten anything until dim sum hours were ending. I wouldnt recommend this place, if you are looking for above-average dim sum. Parking: There are paid parking garages around, as long as you are willing to pay the rates. There are also paid street parking, if you can find it - it gets packed on weekends.

We came early, <1100 so no lineups but also not as many carts. The dim sum was freshly preoared and quite tasty. The prices were quite acceptable.

Went on a weekday morning, which may have explained why it wasnt too busy. The service was fairly quick with a combination of carts and a menu to order off of. The food was good, typical dim sum.

I decided to have dim sum here in Toronto. It was delicious~ Its been a while since I had authentic Chinese dim sum. The people at the store were also kind. There were also many photos with celebrities. I highly recommend this place for dim sum in Toronto.

Very authentic place for dim sum... the entrance looks very weird but when you go upstairs its a really nice and spacious place... one of the very few places that still offers dim sum the traditional way using carts. Dietary restrictions: Have many options Parking: Bit challenging to park

Good dim sum, fast service.

The location is good since it is in chinatown, but the food and the services are depended on who you met and who the chef was on that day.

food was terrible and overpriced, staff were rude and dismissive. staff are also extremely inattentive to black people and ignored everyone at my table even when directly asking for help. one waiter even laughed in my face when i asked if we could get something else instead of the terrible dish they gave me. honestly if i could give it negative stars i would.

Dim Sum restaurants, like all others, took a beating during the Pandemic. Asian diners still routinely mask up between bites, no judgement, just a reality, this used to be an all cart high diner density din sum restaurant that has progressed into a hybrid menu, with one or two carts moving about. I loved the fried squid tentacles, not breaded as per usual, and the taro root was especially moist and flavourful . Menu ordering dim sum always diminishes part of the wonderful somewhat random frenetic nature of the experience for me personally, scanning about to see what is coming, but menu service definitely improves the quality of the food, no exception here at dim sum king, an excellent menu, everything well prepared, service was brisk and professional.

I ve been patronizing this restaurant space since the 80 s. In the 80 s and 90 s, this was the go-to resto for (the first wave of) Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong. Since then, it s changed hands several times over the decades. The last few have not been that impressive so I stopped going. About 2 months ago, a friend of mine suggested we have dim sum here and I was so happy we did. I ve been back 4 times, especially for the Shrimp & Garlic Chive patties. This has always been one of my fav dim sum dishes and they make it the best I ve ever had here!!! They are huge and are always perfectly crispy pan-fried, loaded with shrimp, and with generous amounts of garlic chives. It s not surprising this is a top seller here. Their sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaf are big and thick, stuffed with a ton of pork and Chinese sausage. All the dumplings are huge and steamed fresh per order. They still have the old-school carts which are fun. They also serve a dual purpose for delivering dishes to the tables. The tables are spread apart so the seating is very comfortable and the staff are always extremely friendly (and nice to one another). I look forward to coming here for dinner one day.

I like that this place is pretty quiet - the staff are mindful to stack dishes gently, there s a lot of sound-softening decor etc. a lot less overwhelming than your average busy Chinese restaurant.

The dim sum is the best thar I have ever had. The shrimp & chive and deep fried shrimp dumplings were my favourite. But their vegetarian dim sum and siu mai were also notable. Vegetarian options: They have vegetarian desserts and a vegetarian dim sum roll.

It seems to be a long-established Chinese restaurant that is famous in Toronto. Three of us went there for lunch, we ate and drank a lot, and it cost us about $140 including tip. A variety of dishes arrive on the wagon, so you can choose what you like. Its so much fun. The atmosphere is also great. The hall is very large, and when I went there at noon, it was almost full, but I was able to get in right away. I think the rotation is fast, so even if you go with 3 or 4 people, you can get in right away. I think its better to make a reservation if you have a very large group. The shrimp chive gyoza was extremely delicious. I will definitely go again when I go to Toronto.

Its super tasty as well. Fried prawn dumplings, sweet and sour pork, rice noodles with shrimp are amazing but so is everything else Great for family gatherings or just catching up with a friend Kid friendly and stroller accessible

Despite the nondescript exterior, once you reach the third floor, the restaurant is quite bright and spacious. There was a bit of confusion when I arrived as there was a large group reservation made a week before and the staff didnt seem to know. After walking around a bit and finding other staff it was eventually found and sorted out. The tables are quite large, which can accomodate larger groups and each fits around 10 people. The food carts did come often and the staff were friendly and answered questions. There were several vegetarian dim sum options for both savour and sweet. The quality of the food was great. Vegetarian options: Noodles Pastries Vegetables Pancake
