150 Dundas St W, Toronto, ON M5G 1C6, Canada
Buzzing Chinese lunch mainstay with all-day dim sum served in a cozy underground space.
My favourite dim sum downtown. Very relaxed atmosphere and really delicious food. The curry squid is my absolute favourite!
Our "go to" in Toronto for Cantonese classics and dim sum. Hole in the wall vibes in the best way possible, hidden in the basement level of a building. Super friendly staff. Consistent, affordable and clean. Highly recommended.
Price is very reasonable. They have lunch special and dim sum. Not a big menu but it’s good enough for variety of different dishes. The place look a little dated. Staff is polite and food is serve quickly and hot!
One of my go-to spots for lunch and comfort is the New Treasure Restaurant. Their food quality is top-notch, the dim sum is one of the best I have had, and I personally think they make the best Hot and Sour soup in Toronto! They have a wide range of lunch specials available every day, and the restaurant is always bustling with people, ensuring that the food is always fresh and delicious. Looking forward to my next visit!
The food is alright but the tea is tasteless. To be honest, it’s like water. The restaurant is in a basement so it’s really dark. The only good thing is that the food is affordable. Pay in cash can get 10% off.
Very empty when we went on a Sunday just before 1pm. Not the nicest in terms of ambiance - the restaurant is in a basement so lacks natural light, and it was eerily quiet. That said, service was cordial and food came out relatively quickly. I found the dimsum to be just okay and on the blander side. Unfortunately, not somewhere that warrants another visit from me. 10% off if you pay with cash.
The place was okay. I think the good thing about this place is that food is cheap and dim sum is flavourful. Their bathrooms critically need renovations, it is very old. The dining hall could have been a bit more cozy. I would come back for dim sum because the prices are the best in the area.
This place was awesome. Char siu bao delicious, fried rice super good. Custard bao out of this world. Har gao weren't my favorite - the shrimp was compacted together instead of being pieces of shrimp. It was a bit on the pricy side but was very tasty
Very good dim sum. Couple bucks less than other places.
Great dim sum! Very friendly service.
Great dim sum!
Sumai is really good here with the red sweet sauce
Taste good. Reasonable price.
bad food
Was craving dim sum and always walk by this place. It s ok. If nearby and needing a fix it ll do. Maybe it s because I come from Richmond Hill/Markham but have certainly had better dim sum elsewhere
My in-laws have been visiting this restaurant for 20-30 years. Me, probably about 10. I would describe this gem of a restaurant as family run, no frills, hot and delicious. You will find they put a lot of care into the food. You are not going here for a fancy atmosphere. However, the taste and service is what makes this restaurant. I recommend the Cantonese Chow Mein, Szechwan Eggplant, Beef with Snow Peas, Spice Pork Chop, Honey Garlic Short Ribs, Taro Spring Rolls, and the dim sum staples just to name a few. Dine in of course will be better than takeout, but you can do either. Give it a try, you will not be disappointed.
This is an old school place that I may have been to as a kid. Had lunch here today and the value is really good portion wise, great service.
really good Chinese food here.
Dim sum (order, not cart) is great and the service is fast and kind. It s in a basement and uses plastic tablecloths, which I think adds to its legitimacy everything goes into the taste of the food :)
The food is great and the price is very reasonable and there is good customer service we discovered a new hidden gem in Downtown.
Hidden Gem underground the Toronto downtown, ordered some dim sums, not bad!! Not a fancy restaurant but make us home sick! Food
Mall food level quality @ high price
Great restaurant, have been going here for years and have enjoyed it thoroughly each and every time. I much recommend this restaurant to anyone in the visiting area and is a must try in the downtown Toronto area. The service is great and they are very friendly. In conclusion this restaurant is one of the best dim sum places in Toronto and you are missing out if you have never eaten here.
Very authentic Chinese food.
I started going to this place for dim sum years ago, when it was still a novelty. The food was fabulous. Then it changed hands and dim sum became mediocre so l stopped coming. But l was going past it a few days ago and decided to give it another try for old times sake. Though the prices tripled since the last time, the dim sum was surprisingly good. Going there again with family soon. I paid $40 but took enough home for a small meal.
Always a pleasure eating here
Service is fantastic and food is amazing. Staff is always friendly and quick. Food : 5/5
Not one of my go-to guys, but I had takeout the other day since it was close by and the prices seemed reasonable. Pleasantly surprised. The hot & sour soup was a standout- but please remember to include sauce with takeout orders!
Great dim sum, quick service. You should go slightly before noon for lunch because it fills up quickly. March 8 - first visit after the pandemic. Food is the same if not better, service is excellent. Food
Great place to have dim sum . Fun 80 s look and great staff. I enjoyed our meal which was reasonably priced.
What a hidden affordability gem for after work dinners. Great food, pleasant service.
bringing home leftovers it was so good to finally sit in one of my fav restaurants... service was sublime... dim sum was hot and fresh always love the Chinese broccoli mmm
Great dim sum, worth the walk to this basement restaurant
Amazing Cantonese chow mein at a great lunch special price $10.99. The spring rolls are also to die for
Great food!
I liked this place! Decently priced dim sum that was tasty. The hot and sour soup was good too. Taking one star off due to $25 minimum for Visa payments
Good food great lunch deal. But something I really dont get. I heard that they had cash discount and the Google reviews also said the same but when I asked the lady, she said theyd rather charge $1 fee for bills below $25. Can someone clarify this for next time? It was not written anywhere.
Wheelchair accessibility: It s not wheelchair accessible as it s downstairs. Food
Dim sum always delicious and fresh with decent service. Good spot notwithstanding run down entrance and shabby space.
Incredible dim sum at great prices
We spent the day in Toronto and was looking for a place to have dinner. Read some good reviews so we decided to give it a try. Bonus was their all day dim sum. The restaurant is located in the basement and while it looked sketchy we were pleasantly surprised by the dining room. Its your typical Asian style restaurant decor. The only down side was the bathroom which needed renovation. We ordered a whole bunch of dim sum items (all very good and piping hot) plus a plate of noodles (very good with lots of beef). Some restaurants give you a few pieces but this plate was overflowing. We read that you can get 10% off if you pay cash so we asked the waitress and she gave it to us We arrived around 7:30 pm and there was hardly anyone. The waitress was very and the food came out fast. Everything tasted great and the price was right. Wheelchair accessibility: I have knee issues so the stairs were hard to manage. It would have been nice to have better accessibility.
The all day dim sum was hot and fresh, friendly and quick service. Affordable dim sum right in the heat of downtown toronto. I kinda like the underground basement atmosphere of this restaurant.
It kind of seems sus when you first get there but the food is amazing and so authentic. Would definitely recommend for dim sum!
Always awesome dim sum..... been going there for years. Still a place where dimsum is great Food
I always get the dim sum, very fresh plus great friendly service. Enjoy!
Great dim sum and very generous portions on other dishes. It s in a basement so don t come for the view
Dim Sum is legendary! Cant wait to return always welcoming and delicious food!
An old friend and colleague showed me this treasure about a decade ago and I just recalled this place and wanted to do a review. Quality food at decent price easily better than anything we had in NYC over many years.
Great food. A large all you can eat sushi menu
The food and service are both excellent. Quality and price have been maintained even though I am sure that they are still suffering from the effects from the pandemic. Everyone should be going to this place.
Hearty dim sum, you cant go wrong with anything on the menu. Its all tasty.
Best restaurant the service is very good I ate rice and noodles they were good it was the best restaurant in Elizabeth street.
Ive been coming here for 20 years and New Treasure seldom disappoints. They feature standard Cantonese fare at a level higher than their modest prices. Service was excellent and attentive at my visit today. My father was a fine dining Cantonese chef. He would have approved.
Always order from them. I get the Shanghai noodles and sesame balls. Fresh and wonderful flavours, best Chinese food in the city! Amazing prices as well.
Tonight, I dined in with my boyfriend to celebrate his belated birthday. I picked this place based on the Google reviews. This was a disappointment. Im not even mad; just saddened by the state of the restaurant. We had dim sum; it was not very good and the prices were outrageous. $5 for a serving of 2 BBQ pork buns! There was only one other table there besides us, and it was during dinner time. The washrooms were in a poor state; flickering lights and dilapidated walls. They even forgot to flip the sign to OPEN. I felt so bad for the one waiter working there that I am giving a 5 star review for doing his best. He said they make most of their money from delivery, but only one delivery person came during the hour we were there, and this was at dinner time. The dim sum menu is overpriced, but upon looking at the actual regular menu, those prices are decent for the dishes that are available. We shouldve ordered from the regular menu. We will not be back, but I am happy to have helped out a struggling business, and it makes for a funny story to tell during future birthdays.
I wasnt expecting it at all, but it was absolutely delicious.
Got the wonton soup. Was cheap and tasted great. The manager was also really lovely
If wanted to taste old style dishes this is the place . Liked their fried rice with hot sauce by the way.
I have been going here for the last 20 years, especially for dim sum. I came back here for the first time since the pandemic and I was happy to see that the food hadn t changed and the place still looked the same. It is a hidden gem that is a traditional, no fuss, no frills clean establishment. The dim sum was delicious and fresh! At the moment they give 10% off for dine in and 20% off for takeout. I will be coming back here again.
Don t skip out on this restaurant, it may be tucked away one flight of stairs but it s sure worth the exploration. Dim-sum here is great, have tried there other lunch specials also.
Very happy to spot this place after craving Dim Sum - not too busy at noon on Sunday, so offering 10% off to get people in the door. Would highly recommend the food and service (we ordered additional items to take home).
Food was excellent and very reasonably priced. Will definitely visit here again next time my family is in Toronto.
Wanted dim sum close to City Hall at decent price and was hopeful seeing the 4+ stars. We ordered the standard staples and sadly dishes were underwhelming if you know what decent dim sum is. But no hot mustard?! Thats comparable to western restaurant not having ketchup as condiment. There are better quality, cheaper, frozen pre-made dim sum if you know where to go. If you can make it to Scarborough or Markham, Fu Kee Bao Dim is a wholesaler that is open to public with tastier options at better value. They have all the staples with easy preparation instruction in chinese and english. Youre welcome.
Good quality Chinese food. Free Chinese tea w/meal Good prices Food : 5/5
Tiny dining down the stairs at the intersection. Food was your typical dim sum.
Old time restaurant, but the food is always good and the staff are always friendly.
Decent place for typical noodle dishes (e.g. Shanghainese noodles) and dim sum ...service was acceptable but not great.
Food was really good and affordable. They also gave us a free dish.
Went for lunch time dimsum. Perfect for a team lunch as well!
Ive been coming here since take your kid to work day, 1999!
Delicious food, good price, friendly staff! Will be eating here again!
Everything was delicious
I have been going to this restaurant over 40 years and I tell any friends who will listen about the food. The only reason it is NOT 5* is the atmosphere is sometimes unfriendly to white guys later in the day. This has never stopped me eating here because ALL Chinatown is unfriendly to Caucasions. It is not only whites who are discriminatory. It is the food that brings me back NOT the people.
They refreshed the interior of the place but the quality and flavor of the food has gone downhill.
Ordered dinner from them. Food is horrifically bad. Both of the vegetable dishes taste like nothing, as if they cooked it and washed away the flavors with water. The beef noodle is the worst. The noodle looks white and has no sauce on it at all. I honestly dont know how they achieved it when even a slight stir can make it a lot better. Absolutely garbage and will not order from them again.
If you want the best experience, go for lunch. Ive been going to this place for a long time. Trust me on this.
Wen for lunch with a friend. On the positive side the food was good and service as well. On the down side the food was a little less than hot. Might just be that the restaurant was chilly and we were slow but I think not. I will definitely be back to give it another shot.
Food is always delicious here
Best dim sum in all the land. Theve got the carts to bring the dim sum around. My go to spot.
Wonderful and consistent Dim Sum on weekends. Always fresh and always a great price! Been going here off and on for years.
The foods not bad, given the price. The price is average. The service is quick but if you want the servers to be super friendly and very attentive, this is not that place. Theyll get you a table and do the necessities but nothing above and beyond. Ive gone back a few times. Its always packed at lunch time.
Did not understand the concept of split bill... they said no I said hell yes .....Im changing my rating to a better star because the food was good ...but it should not take 30 minutes to pay
Great dim sum place has been there for many years. Pretty good price unless you over eat which may be likely cus its good!
Good variety of tasty and fresh food
The worst food in Toronto, bar none
Food is good but dimsum is little pricey.
The food is good for the price. Very affordable lunches.
It used to have great food and barely acceptable service. Seems like its under new management for a year or more. The service is much better but the food is really not. It is markedly less good. The selection of dishes is narrower and the quality of the dumplings has really suffered. They are doughy and somewhat chewy. We might street looking for a new venue. UPDATE: Went back again recently - much better than last time. Wider range of items and all better quality than before my previous review. No longer thinking about looking for a new venue.
Clean. Dim Sum OK. Rest not so great.
Best dim sum in Toronto!
Dim sum in the heart of the city. Just a few blocks away from the Eaton Center. Located on Dundas Street, in basement level. A bit of a hole in the wall, but never disappoints. Push cart dim sum during the work week until 1pm, then order as you like afterwards. Quality is good, however price is up there because of the location. Approximately $40-50 for two at lunch.
Good food, affordable prices
New Treasure is a hidden gem beneath the streets of Toronto! My husband and I stumbled across this place by accident and were skeptical at first. There seemed to be no one in the restaurant at 7:00 on a Tuesday evening. That being said, we had attentive service and honestly - great dim sum!! Our favourite dish was the Fried shrimp and chive dumpling. We were pleasantly surprised. While the decor is a bit outdated and the building itself quite old, the restaurant had a certain charm that only a true Toronto Dim Sum fan can appreciate. Would be happy to return!
Amazing food
I came cross the neighbors, and thought why not. First I was was a bit skeptical because it is at sort of basement but it turned out good. Staffs were friendly and their dishes were very decent and with some home-made products. The place is clean as well. Price is also reasonable. Will be back!
My favorite dim sum place in Toronto. The tea is really good and the staff are friendly. Quick service too.
bad. a disgrace of Chinese food. I would highly NOT recommend my friend to come here. the dim sum is not at the right temperature. price is overpriced.
Very good fry ri
Good food and price
Classic case of do not judge the book by the cover. This place looks so sketchy when you first show up... its downstairs and just looks old but when you sit down and start ordering food.... its all good, its so yummy ....some of the best dim-sum youve ever had in your life. Staff is very friendly although some of them dont really speak English, but a smile is universal!!!! Definitely a fan!!!
A great dim sum place. Highly recommend it. Good food but if you are looking for ambience this is not the place. Friendly staff as well.
No carts. Cooked to order. Everything was delicious.
I have enjoyed the standard dim sum menu here because it is inexpensive and near work but it is not inexpensive anymore and the quality of food is not worth it.
Love this spot for family lunch. Dim Sum is delicious and fast! The dining room is not too loud, well lit, and spacious. Definitely check it out if you re looking for a spot near the Eaton Centre or china town. We LOVE them :)
Great hidden gem for dim sum. Shhhh... dont tell everyone :)
One of the best places for Cantonese Chow Mein in Toronto!
Nice staff ,not much option for vegetarians though, but good experience!
great food and great service! crispy chicken, spring rolls, fried shrimp wontons, and other menu items we ordered had a plethora of flavor. the ambience of the dining room is comfortable, and the service is friendly ! will definitely come back :)
My favorite dimsum resturant in Toronto. As a Cantonese, I have tried most of the famous dimsum resturants in Toronto and this resturant is my favorite so far. The Shumai (Steamed pork and mushroom dumpling) here is a must try. The Shumais contain large chunks of meat which provide a complex mouthfeel and the taste is very savory and the umami. The steamed ribs and chicken feet are also very good.
Below average food, from dimsum to stir-fried items. Do yourself a huge favor and go to one of the other Chinese restaurants in Toronto.
Clean, nice dim sum!
Not spectacular, I just happen to LOVE this place: plastic on the tables, kitschy decor, moderate prices . . . and a typical selection of tasty DIM SUM! (Tip: If you havent had dim sum before, I recommend going with an experienced friend the first time.) The stairway down to the basement location is rough (no wheelchair access), restaurant is clean, washrooms OK. Travel by transit is recommended downtown, but street parking has never let me down (1 block NW on Edward St). Other than recent price hikes, the place hasnt changed much in decades! :-)
Not a huge selection but food is good, staff are friendly and helpful, and they are quick.
One of the better dim sum locations in downtown.
Good but expensive as compared to other dim sum places.
A very small, quiet and below ground Chinese restaurant that serves all day dim sum. The menu is very reminiscent of my childhood with about 40 dishes served by someone in a white shirt and tie on top of a plastic disposable table cloth. The har gow and sui mai is definitely juicy. While the beef rice roll seems to be reheated since the roll seemed to maintained the shape of the plate when I picked it up. The pork buns were very rich in flavour. The glutinous rice with preserved sausage looked the same as the rice rolls. Atmosphere is very traditional despite being empty midday on Sunday. Staff are friendly and keeps their eye out for you when youve cleared your plate. This place can easily seat parties above 4 but perfect for a small family gathering.
My friend led me to this place. Its, like, in the lower basement level of the building and the signs are rather obscure but I liked that! Overall, this place feels like one of those places you go only if you know. The food was great too! I mean, real dim sum place -- Not one of those (for lack of better words) white people friendly dim sum place.
Customer service needs some improvement also they could renovate the food is still good
This is a family place where my family has a long history with the owners and servers. Lovely and comfy.
Great taste, friendly service
Cheap and good. Go here with friends fairly often when were in the neighbourhood.
Fun place to go for dim sum. The servers go around with their cart and you select the dim sum you like. Yum
Average quality food
Average Dim Sum, very good prices. Not a bad place but there are many other better choices in the neighbourhood.
Good place for dumplings.
Great Value for money. Good lunch time dim sum, bug place can have a busy lunch crowd on pay day so plan an early lunch on that day (11:30am)
Great prices, Good food. Chill date spot.
First time in this place..was good we were for a coworker farewall at midday was not bad.
Affordable. Very good dim sum
Stopped in on my lunch break with a few coworkers. Service is fast and while the selection of dim-sum isnt huge, what they do have is very delicious. Dont see what youre looking for on any of the passing carts, simply ask a server and if its on the menu for the day, they will bring it for you.
Cheap and tasty!
Loved it.
This little chinese restaurant serves an all day dimsum menu and other chinese dishes youll find in typical restaurants. The food was decent and the location was steps away from the downtown core. It is a quick casual spot to eat and chat with friends.
Food here is decent. The atmosphere is kind of lacking and the staff can be quite impatient or rude at times.
Great Dim Sum. My favorite spot in the city
Hole in the wall comfort food
I used to go here a lot when I was a kid, havent been here in a while so I brought a friend with me to try Dim Sum for the first time and she loved it. Food is still amazing, staff is awesome..no complaints. Cant wait to come back.
GREAT Dim Sum. Take anyone and everyone I know that likes dim sum here, and theyre always impressed and ended up coming back. Definitely a must try.
Good food and good prices friendly service recommended if you like dim sum.
If you want to travel back in time to a late 80s dim sum restaurant, this is the place to be. Just walk down, open the door and time travel just magically happens, its pretty cool. Your mind starts trippin itself out, wondering if you really went back in time, or if its still todays date. Like is the beginning the end or is the end just the beginning? The dim sum itself is actually pretty bad to a point that we had to laugh about it and I look around to see how this place still exists. After a quick scan I could see why. Dim sum carts still a thing here which is cool. A few items from the carts didnt sell fast enough as I ate it and suffered the liquid dumplings.
Reasonable price and good taste! The renovation is outdated but staff is nice. Always be my first place when I want a bite of dim sum. Close to Eaton!
Good food at a great price with fast service. Theres was good on our table before everyone managed to sit down
The taste is light, which suits my taste very well. It is a Cantonese style, and the preserved egg and lean meat porridge is rice porridge. Right
Basic ambiance; but dim sum is fresh and sumptuous!
Food was good just been here once
Highly recommended, good price and good food. Very nice dumplings and good customer service. I will definitely be back.
Fast service
Very clean place, the service was quick, the food was a bit slow but it was cook to order. We ordered off a menu, no carts, but that meant the dishes were hot. You can also order off a full menu as well. There is a minimum for debit or credit card.
Great, consistent, and cheap dim sum. My favorite place in Toronto. Good for take out too.
Food is good and priced well.
The service attitude and products are great. The price is also affordable and the ingredients are sufficient.
Tried calling many times to place an order and it just rings constantly.
This was the worst Chinese food I have had. I asked for a dish advertised outside the restaurant that looked like char siu chicken. Instead I got a partially melted styrofoam container with poorly breaded chicken with some spices carelessly tossed in.
My favorite dim sum place.
Basement restaurant. Absolutely no frills. Clean and bright though. Good dimsum in good portions at very reasonable price. And they come quite quickly, hot. Excellent value for money.
Horrible service. Sat us at a 2 person small table and said if I want bigger table I have to wait? After waiting an hour. If my boys had wanted to go I would have left. Since the reopening service has been horrible.
Food quality is good and portions are generous.
Quite nice even though its in the basement. Food was good. Price is very reasonable
Spacious, good food for a good price. Service is great as well.
One of the best dim sum places in city
Convenient location to meet friends from around the core. Pretty standard dim sum. AYCE chili sauce in squirt bottle which is nice. I do like this place overall.
Vegetables very fresh
Food was okay, drinks werent great, staff was forgetful.
A little overpriced and very crowded but the food tastes delicious
Enjoyed this place that I hadnt been to in so long. We did dim sum and all the dishes were delicious. The place itself is not much to look at but who cares, food is yummy.
Brilliant! Tasty, fun, low-key place for yummy dim sum. It aint fancy, but it is cheap, tasty and perfect for a low-key lunch.
