All-day breakfast, hot sandwiches & burgers in a space with booth seating & train-inspired decor.
A truly awful experience. I get it, it's Sunday morning, it's busy. But this was genuinely ridiculous. Our server was noticeably grumpy, it took far too long for our order to be taken. The tables around us got sat after us, yet had their orders taken and received their food before us. When our food eventually arrived, everything was cold. Not even luke warm, cold. Our server didn't quality check so we didn't have a chance to address it or send it back. My gf was supposed to get pancakes as part of her meal, she had to go up the the counter and ask for them, then it took another 20 minutes for them to arrive, as we were getting ready to leave. I also had to go up to the counter to get more hot water for tea. Overall just a frustrating, unenjoyable experience. They should consider putting another server on, because we basically didn't have one. Have lived in the area for almost 15 years, will NEVER go back here. Really upset with this. $50 for breakfast, money down the drain.
Ordered catering from Chew Chew’s for Turkey with gravy and cranberry sauce for 30 people with a 48 hour notice. They were very reasonable with price and gave great customer service. Turkey was cooked to perfection, and everyone at my party raved about the gravy. The manager Reegan responded to my inquiry quickly and professionally. Overall would highly recommend Chew Chew for any of your catering large event needs (:
It used to be very good, now I don't know what happened. I ordered a vegi omelette (through ubereats) and they send me eggs mixed with water (to make it look fluffuier) Do they think people are stupid and won't notice it. Your saving on eggs by adding water to it, but now you have lost a customer.
So happy it’s open again. We love this local spot. Great food and value. The conductor special is a must try if you are hungry! You get a full breakfast and super soft and fluffy pancakes! Service is always friendly A must try for all.
We ate breakfast here twice last weekend. Both times, we were seated quickly into the same comfortable booth. The breakfasts that came to our table were Eggs Benedict and fruit smothered French Toast. Very generous portions and the service was warm and welcoming. I was absolutely amused when our server chimed in with a story of watching CBC shows such as King of Kensington. What a laugh we had! Overall, a bustling diner, great food, good vibe. Highly recommend!
This place hit the spot for breakfast/brunch. We ordered All aboard special and crispy chicken Benedict. The bacon was so crispy and eggs very fluffy. The hollandaise sauce was very tasty. The portions were very generous. Also enjoyed the design of the restaurant, hence the chew chew(train). I really enjoyed my visit, as the servers were very welcoming and friendly. I will definitely be back whenever I visit downtown TO.
I'm so disappointed.. That I never tried this place sooner. I love diners like this - so much character. Places like this make you feel like you're eating a home cooked meal, made from scratch. I love that they don't skimp on portions or things like the amount of olives on my Greek salad. Service was above and beyond. Normally I can't stand when a girl younger than me calls me 'sweetie' or for us 'lovelies' but not the case with our server, Gray. Charming, professional and friendly and very efficient - she can call us whatever she likes, lol. An added shout out to this place - they are commissioned by Saint Luke's United Church across the street to provide the meals that are handed out twice a week as part of their meal program. It feeds people at Allan Gardens and others in the area. All the more reason Chew Chews deserves kudos and support from the community! Already looking forward to going back!
October 12/2024: Finally reopened and nothing better to start my Saturday with steak & eggs which was done to perfection. 2024: Thursday March 27. Went for breakfast but the Diner was locked up tight. Both signs showing their new phone number and advertising for help wanted have been removed. Hope it's nothing permanent. 2023: Fresh mashed potatoes have made a comeback at this fine Diner. A welcome alternative to fries or fried potatoes. Nice people who make comfort food. The benches are comfortable and well lit. Oct/2016: Well greeted and promptly seated. Bacon & eggs with coffee (free refill) and a large fresh orange juice. 4 thick pieces of bacon, 3 eggs, real roasted potatoes and thick cut toast with fruit all for $6.99...your wallet will thank you. Took a salmon with capers & cream cheese to go for $8.99 and it was delicious. For a decadent full flavour meal try the Eggs Benedict Meatloaf with bacon. I kid you not. I had mine with mashed potatoes which were done to perfection. It'll warm your senses on a cold day. A small but respectable bar with quality choices along with available beer will round off your meal quite nicely. No WIFI.
Fantastic Brunch Place!!!! A lot of food at reasonable prices!!!
Truly excellent Eggs Benedict with real hollandaise (made with butter instead of the usual margarine or oil, thank you). Good coffee, exemplary service.
Fast great service!
Chew Chews Grill has taken over where Chew Chews Diner left off. The interior has been spruced up a bit but not materially changed and the menu is pretty much the same too. Its a great spot for diner classics and reasonably priced too.
Sadly they were closed and we didnt have an hour to wait for them to open Parking: They dont open early enough for breakfast in my family Food : 3/5 |
I used to love this place when it was the Steer Burger 30+ years ago. It was sold to a new owner around the end of the 90s and renamed Chew Chews with a similar menu if slightly higher prices. Based on the menus posted for this new iteration of Chews Chews opened a few weeks ago the prices have got completely out of control! In 2022 (post covid) a Cheeseburger + Combo = $13.49. Two years later it is $18.98! According to the inflation calculator that adjusted price in 2024 should have been $14.50. I doubt they made improvements to their burgers in the time it was shuttered (imagine the pest problem) to make the $5.49 price increase worthwhile. I will not be going back
After waiting awhile to be seated, once seated was not asked if I would like water or another beverage to start as I wait to be served. I waited longer, in hopes they would realise that is the first step to good service. One server who was supposed to be my original server and seat me, but had forgotten about me, placed a cutlery set on my table and walked off again not asking if I would like a beverage. The other server places beverages on several tables around me and walks past me to serve someone next to me. At that point I stood up to leave and he quickly turned to ask if I was ready to order.. I said I was alright and left to find another place that would kindly acknowledge me and serve me with respect.
Love the renovation! The food is even better than before, massive portion,
Favourite breakfast place in the area! The staff are wonderful and friendly. Sean is always happy to see us and is so kind to everyone!
This might be the best food in cabbagetown. I had the philly steak and my wife had the chicken club and we were blown away. Cant wait to go back and try some more things on the menu.
Good price, delicious food, good service.
Oct 2024: Cozy diner with satisfying food, great portions, and reasonable prices. They even serve alcohol. Now open after a six-month closure.
Recently renovated and took out a fair bit of the character. Food is still good, but the atmosphere is edging towards generic.
A neighborhood spot I ve been meaning to check out and so glad I finally did! The food is delicious and portions are really great. I ve tried two types of eggs benedict - the one with bacon and one with chicken. Definitely coming back soon
Good news! Chew Chews is not gone, but renovating.
**Update posted April 2024** Has been closed since before mid-February 2024..see photo posted by another reviewer. ** Original Review Posted August 2023** Have been a loyal customer for over 2 decades but no longer. Since new owners took over, Prices have sky rocketed. May be okay for the Breakfast or Brunch crowd, but for takeout orders its utterly ridiculous! For a once loved neighbourhood greasy spoon diner it seems those days are over. It seems to cater to the Breakfast & Brunch crowd and everyone else be damned. A couple months ago an elderly friend went there to get a slice of Pecan pie to take home to enjoy with her dinner. She paid over $7 for the tiniest sliver of pie that barely filled a teaspoon. There was more whipped cream (2 dollops) in the takeout container than pie. Today I had a friend pickup a takeout order for 3 Small Salads (price was raised a little over a year ago, when new owner took over, from $4.95 to $6.95)... I was shocked to see they have raised their price yet again to $9.99 each!!! For a SMALL SALAD!!! They also forgot to put any dressing on any of them.. so i just paid $36.87 (w/tax & a $3 tip the p/u person left) for 3 small Dry Salads. Now this may seem trivial to some folks.. but this neighbourhood is not a high income area of Toronto. We are just south of St Jamestown, on one corner from the Diner is Dixon Hall, another has a large church with a food bank & many other Low income services, Allan Gardens is very close by with a large homeless population. Many people in the neighbourhood are living on Pensions, Disability, and other forms of fixed incomes. I think Chew Chews days are limited. If they keep going on the path they are currently travelling, with high prices and inconsistant service/food quality, they will not last long in this neighbourhood. They have already lost many of their loyal Customers, who kept their business alive during the pandemic shutdowns, who are no longer able to afford to eat there. Save your money and walk a couple blocks over to Parliament Street where there are some nice restaurants that will give u better quality food & service at a decent & affordable price. Parking: Diner is on a busy street corner, near Streetcar stop. Rarely any parking available close by. Wheelchair accessibility: NOT WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE! Steps going in, washroom down a steep flight of stairs in basement
Im truly saddened by your departure. What will my family do without you? Thank you for the wonderful memories and delicious meals. Ill miss you dearly, especially your famous four-egg benny.
One of the best brunches in the city.
Chew Chews has been closed for a few weeks now, at least, and there s no indication when they ll open again. There s a sign on the door saying it s due to an emergency. Hope they re okay and know that the neighbourhood supports them and hopes they re okay. We ll be here when you get back
Amazing food, decent service and clean, the all day Breakfast was so good!
Classic neighbourhood diner with friendly, no nonsense service. The corned beef sandwich is the secret MVP of the menu.
Extremely rude staff will hang up the phone on you if you call
the best edit: subsequent visits have been significantly more mediocre
Wishing Danny and everyone else at Chew Chews all the best
What a fantastic place! Way too much food for a decent price! Will definitely go back...
Great comfort food, served by a friendly staff and at a reasonable price.
Great little spot! Service was quick and friendly and good, affordable meals
Its always a bit challenging to give a mediocre review to a smaller diner restaurant but I felt I had to be honest with myself and the audience. I was looking forward to a classic diner breakfast on this sunny Tuesday morning (just before it started to rain) and I imagine if foreshadowed the meal. To start, Chew Chews is quaint but can use some touch up work with the benches not properly secured to the booth and the age just showing in general....but its not terrible, For our meal we ordered the Eggs Bacontine (with an amazing 4 eggs, a single slice of pineapple and home fries...but the hollandaise sauce was very unfortunate and put me off the meal in general), and a Classic American breakfast (3 eggs with home fries...it was good). On the plus side, the meal was very affordable compared to other breakfast establishments...I just wish the food came out better. Enjoy!
Friendly neighborhood diner with great food, price, and service! I walked in without thinking much and now it s my favourite place
Great little place, very affordable, very friendly staff!
Excellent diner. Very good hamburgers, terrific flavour and texture, breakfasts are robust and made from quality ingredients and prices especially for downtown Toronto are more than fair.
Very cute place , you can tell the employees understand the class in being a servant , I felt like a special guest and the food was great! Simple but beautiful
Chew Chews is an unpretentious oasis in the city losing its charm to gentrification. I love this place and cherish it. Its comforting and consistent and Ive always felt welcomed by the staff. This place has a heart. Portions are amazing, prices are honest and fair. Its my go-to spot in my neighborhood.
The food is good but the phone is never answered or goes right to voice-mail. Absolute joke. You cant sort out a phone line??
Great breakfast, an awesome start to the day. Great diner experience, attentive helpful sever nothing too much trouble. 100 % recommend
Try the eggs benedict!
Delicious food, great portions, attentive service. Very unpretentious, neat and cozy diner. The best eggs Benedict I ve had in a long time, highly recommend.
Great simple restaurant!
Found this diner in cabbagetown and this is the best eggs Benny Ive ever had. Everything was made to order so a fresh home made meal made my day. The portions are huge. And the hollandaise sauce is to die for. Great service , great food.
Absolutely wonderful food and service. It had been a bit since I visited however, going back was filled with familiar sights and smells. It has that retro look and always consistently wonderful food and service staff. The food is well priced considering what you get as well. Will not hesitate to go back again and again and again.
Love the food and service
Have been a regular patron for over 4 years. New menu this week with raised prices. Trying to clarify an extra $1 between Thurs and today I was told to eff off! I will NOT be returning, and will report the long-standing blood stain on the bathroom wall. ETA: after 3 months thought Id go back to wish staff happy holidays etc. - same waiter who SCREAMED at me to eff off told me they cant serve me but I could get take out if I wanted to - I said because YOU swore at me Im the one being punished? (or words to that effect and he double down saying Obviously you deserved it! I need to track down the owners to report this characters b.s.
Best breakfast i ve had in so long. The potatoes were seasoned so well and the smoked salmon eggs benedict was delicious! Will definitely be coming back all the time!
Good place, down to earth, delicious meaty food and hearty breakfast
An unassuming, yet bustling diner that I regret I have not discovered sooner. Eating here in the atmosphere of the well visited restaurant makes me feel nostalgic for a time I wasnt even born yet. And the price! Super affordable, too, as a proper diner should be, not charging 20 bucks for a short stack of pancake. Service looks to be reasonably speedy and the employees are cheery and friendly, but my order was a bit slow, probably because I am a weirdo and ordered a meatloaf (instead of anything normal like egg benedict and burger) and a strawberry milkshake. Classic baked meatloaf out of a 50s diner with boiled (certainly does not taste like steamed, but would benefit hugely from it) cauliflower, broccoli and carrot, and enough home fries to feed a small family, all covered in thick gloopy gravy. Portion size is enormous, I could probably plant my face in it with room to spare, and my pulse shot up to above 100bpm while eating it. I feel like I could just go home and clonk out from the massive food coma creeping up my spine. The milkshake didnt help. 10/10 would recommend.
A decent brunch and Western breakfast location. I had the conductors meal. It was hearty and tasty. Excellent service. Good portion sizes. Decent food. Would recommend. Food
Thats breakfast! Impossible to come out of there without wanting to go back.
Fantastic spot for breakfast and brunch, great food with great service!
How many times will I order from this place on Uber and have them not send maple syrup with pancakes? Two times and counting...
Awesome place to stop in for breakfast. Really good food and great prices. Everyone is friendly and service is good too.
Really disappointed today. Our favourite server didnt work, coffee refill wasnt offered, received white toast instead of the rye. Wasnt asked how we are doing,no smile ,any kindness, only cold attitude.
Wonderful brunch place. Cozy atmosphere, great, tasty food. Highly recommend
Great food, very busy, staff are great and overall its a great place for breakfast, I highly recommend this restaurant.
This is a very nice place Im glad I found close home. Good food, good portions and very good price.
Massive portions and very reasonably priced. Great service as well!
Worst food and disrespectful waiter
Horrible service and rude waiter
we were there frequently in december 2022. It was delicious! greetings from germany
If you re in Cabbagetown and are jonesing for a good ol greasy breakfast/brunch, definitely come to Chew Chew s. The food is delicious and so well-priced. I especially like the home fries! The service is also friendly, though it can get pretty busy, so you may have to wait a while for your food. It s not the most polished place around, but the best food spots never are.
Amazing price for the heaping portions of food! Service is very typical for a dinner. They have a lot of regulars that they treat like family. Their home fries are more like hash brown but it is still delicious. Omelette was ok, but the smoked salmon was better, although it had a strong fishy smell.
Delicious breakfast. Good table service. Fair menu prices. Corner diner atmosphere.
Old style breakfast restaurant
Excellent service, food, and an overall experience! We came here for dinner before a concert and to kill time and had an incredible meal and a lovely time having tea after dinner. Staff was kind and helpful, and food was good. Good music too! Cannot recommend enough.
My every Sunday breakfast spot. I love the food and the waiter was so accommodating.
Simple meals, excellent customer service and a great in and out brunch place!!
Omg. Its been so long since I had a proper grilled cheese! So gooey and amazing! And he literally piled the home fries on top. I couldnt even see the sandwich lol, thats what Im talking about. They actually give you a good amount of food too. Im so glad I found chew chews by accident. I Would also like to say the counter staff was lovely, good sense of humour and he was so sweet, he walked to the door with one of the elderly customers to hold the door for her and then wished her well using her name. Ahhhh good old fashioned hospitality. I will definitely be back! Yay!
Beautiful and cheep place
Playing up the street at Phoenix Concert Theatre and needed a proper breakfast. Unbelievable meal and nice staff. Server recommended the corned beef eggs benny and it was dialed in. So was their home fries.
Order a club sandwich take out ..went home open it up was chicken fingers with all this slop on it decusting .I never had a problem ther tell just now gross think the chefs or people ther must of mistaken me for some else Im a nice but dont miss with my food think was a isolated situation directed at me somebody lieing you look into the fax before you make your final judgment I went back in the and the gave me a feel meal which was fine the food very good some buddy made a mistake on my food but all good in the hood .
Perfect spot for brunch
My favourite breakfast place. Great portions and friendly service
It is my third time coming back for breakfast at this place. First time we got our order forgotten so we waited over an hour for our food but it was worth the wait as the food was delicious. We ve been back couple more times, and it looks like it will be our usual on weekends. The poached eggs at this restaurant are just one of the best I ve tried.
The frontage of this diner does not do it justice! The food was hearty, tasty, reasonably priced and in good portions, and the service was excellent. Highly recommend!
This is one of the best spots in Toronto! The value of the food is unmatched! You can get delicious, huge portion breakfasts for a very reasonable price. The service is also fantastic! On my trip there today, I had Cameron (don t know if I spelled that right) and she was one of the best waitresses I ve ever had! I highly recommend this spot to anyone!
Great eggs benny
Sad they changed their hours if I can t order breakfast take out before 9 it won t be here until 10 so going to have to switch to somewhere else.
Got a bacon grilled cheese, was ok, couldve been cooked longer. The home fries were nice and crispy. Our server was very friendly and apparently the pancakes are very good too!
Met a friend here around 11am on Saturday and was seated right away. Menu is comprehensive without being overwhelming. Ordered the Eggs St Patrick - eggs and home fries were cooked well (although potatoes couldve used a touch more seasoning), hollandaise was rich and delicious. They were generous with the corned beef and the overall portion was huge. Service was friendly, they were good about refilling our water glasses and food came out relatively quickly. Solid neighbourhood spot for a simple but filling breakfast/brunch at a reasonable price.
Perfect if you want to grab a bite to eat before a concert at The Phoenix!
Great value, great staff. As the name suggests it has a train vibe, from the conductors special to lots of train decorations Best weekend brunch place in the area for sure cant recommend it enough Food
Great portions. Good home town feel.
The food was good, but they were out of real maple syrup. I like how they melted the chocolate chips on top of the French toast.
Great customer service!! Food is amazing!!! Portions are plenty and Prices are fantastic!!! You cant go wrong eating here!! Thanks for great service!!
One of my favourite breakfast stops anywhere. Huge portions for a low price. Friendly staff. We had a wonderful waiter named Luke, a charming British fellow, but all the staff made sure to thank us for coming when we left. I wish I lived closer, Id eat here every morning.
Service excellent, food delicious. My first time there and definitely it will more to come. If you are in the area go visit and you will know what I mean Food : 5/5
Amazing breakfast place. Delicious breakfast, huge portions, well worth it. Our server was super nice, and we could tell he loves his job. My friend had cinnamon French toast. He liked it too. Food : 5/5 |
Nice and cool place for breakfast.
Went here for brunch during an overnight stay in Toronto and have nothing but positive things to say about the food for the price! I ordered the eggs Benedict, but also tried a good portion the pancakes as ordered by my best friend who was with me. No pure maple syrup unfortunately (but honestly to be expected for a small breakfast joint in this economy). The portions are massive here for the price! The size of the plates they set before you could effortlessly derail an actual speeding steam train. We arrived starved but still could barely finish the offerings. Phenomenal. The booths were also very cozy. As a train fanatic, I think theres definitely room to lean even more heavily into the rail theme, but this is a useless nitpick and I digress. Well be back! Parking: Parallel parking is available across the street. I forget the price offhand as of the time of writing, but it did not break the bank.
Delicious diner brunch at a great price with good service.
Awesome breakfast and even better service! There is a great environment inside and it is unique with the train decorations. Our server was very helpful with recommendations and helped us whenever we needed something. Will definitely go again!
Very good place for brunch!! Pleasant server. Very hearty! Affordable price. Nice decor.
Always a great place for benedict
Delicious!!
Delicious and portions are super good for the price! A go to brunch spot
I went into Chew Chews Diner to order a salad to go on my lunch. When I ordered the salad the server informed of my order to the cook right away. I sat there for over 15 minutes waiting on my small garden salad . The server also noticed that I have been waiting for a while and asked the cook if the salad was ready. The cook was so rude, almost yelling at him that he never got the order slip to make the salad ( this was not true as I saw the server give him the order slip for the salad). It was so uncomfortable sitting there and hearing the cook disrespect the server ( I can only imagine how the server must of felt). I had already paid for my salad when I placed the order so I didnt want to cancel the order, but I completely lost my appetite. I will never return there again. I hope the server that was treated so poorly finds himself a better place of employment. Parking: Hard to find available street parking.
Typical dinner! Good price! Effective and comforting!
I love trains and I love this restaurant. Amazing
Ordered the pork schnitzel with fries & cole slaw. The schnitzel was quite dry but was much improved when I asked for gravy which was $2 extra.
Had a great meal. The eggs Benedict St Patrick is the way to go. Everything we had was delicious and the pricing is really good too. Highly recommend anyone that loves a good diner with killer all day breakfast.
Great old school greasy spoon diner serving a wide range of breakfasts. I had great service and the food was delicious. Food
Our favourite local haunt for breakfast, great staff and food. Prices are very reasonable for the generous portions you get. Nice classic diner atmosphere. Looking forward to trying dinner soon.
Avocados is always sweet!
Good for decent breakfasts, brunch or lunches. Not pricey, service is good and fast. Expect old good greasy bacon instead of avocado toasts...
This is a great neighbourhood diner. All day breakfast is wonderful and their sandwiches and diner classics are great. They also do great daily specials. If I lived in this neighbourhood, Id probably eat here every day.
Great place for breakfast, the place doesnt look like much but I loved it, authentic place, pleasant service and everything is very good! Prices consistent with what is served. The only problem is the air conditioning is really too strong!
We came to visit and they recommended the place to us. The complete breakfast of eggs Benedict, the coffee, the hot cakes, and the service make it highly recommended. P.S. Dont forget to bring a big appetite. Vegetarian options: There are foods that do not contain rum or white protein.
Fantastic breakfast. Amazing service and we were recommended a local bar - saw him there later and said hello! Made our trip to Toronto extra special, thank you so much :)
Amazing diner with a classic feel. We had breakfast for two and the portions were very generous at a really incredible price. Quality was top notch and the service was great! A true hidden gem in Toronto!
Chew chew s is probably one of the best value and most delicious, old school, diner-style places in the city. Friendly staff and extremely affordable. If you call ahead instead of ordering through the Apps, you ll probably save money for yourself and for the business. It is one of the few places left in the city to get a good old fashion home-made hamburger without breaking the bank or your gut.
Best little diner to have breakfast in.
Monster pancakes keep me coming back
The value for money is amazing. Its a basic diner but the prices are low and the servings huge.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Chew Chew Diner, a charming establishment that took me back in time with its old-school ambiance and mouthwatering menu. Nestled in a cozy corner of town, this diner provided an unforgettable experience that left me craving for more. First and foremost, the corned beef sandwich at Chew Chew Diner was an absolute delight. The thinly sliced, tender corned beef was stacked generously between two slices of perfectly toasted rye bread, creating a sandwich that oozed with flavor and nostalgia. The combination of the rich, savory meat and the tangy mustard was simply irresistible. Its a must-try for any sandwich lover. What truly impressed me about Chew Chew Diner was their all-day breakfast menu. With a plethora of options, I found myself spoiled for choice. The variations of ham they offered were truly outstanding, and each dish was prepared with care and attention to detail. Whether it was a classic ham and eggs or a creative twist on the traditional breakfast platter, the quality and taste were consistently exceptional. The diners atmosphere was another standout feature. Stepping into Chew Chew Diner felt like entering a time capsule, with its retro decor and cozy booths. The vintage signage, checkered floors, and nostalgic memorabilia created a warm and inviting ambiance that transported me to a bygone era. It was a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of modern life. The staff at Chew Chew Diner deserve special recognition. The moment I walked through the door, I was greeted with genuine warmth and hospitality. The waitstaff were attentive, friendly, and went out of their way to ensure a pleasant dining experience. Their knowledge of the menu was impressive, and they were more than happy to provide recommendations and answer any questions I had. While my experience at Chew Chew Diner was undeniably fantastic, I felt that there was room for improvement. The menu could benefit from a wider range of options beyond breakfast and sandwiches. Including more diverse dishes would provide even more variety for diners seeking something different. Additionally, it would be wonderful to see some vegetarian or vegan options added to cater to a wider range of dietary preferences. In conclusion, Chew Chew Diner is a delightful spot that transports you to a bygone era. The delicious corned beef sandwich and extensive breakfast offerings are definite highlights, while the nostalgic atmosphere and exceptional staff make for a memorable dining experience. With a few tweaks to the menu, this charming diner has the potential to become an even more sought-after destination for both locals and visitors alike. I highly recommend giving Chew Chew Diner a try you wont be disappointed.
Beautiful house in Cabbagetown
4 of us enjoyed our various eggs Benedict on a busy Sunday Vegetarian options: Plenty of eggs! Wheelchair accessibility: Large step at front door, washroom downstairs
Great value for the money
If youre visiting from Asia, you should definitely go. An old-fashioned diner. Great atmosphere and perfect quantity. Looks like you can choose the type of toast We ordered a little too much, but we used the takeaway box You can get refills of coffee. They also add hot water to your tea Yorus menu is also great! !
This place has become a regular place to eat for my friends and I. The concept of eating on a train is already cool enough. But with the addition of friendly staff and good, reasonably priced food, it s no wonder that my friends and I always go back. Shoutouts to John and Rachel for making each time we go there awesome and welcoming! :D
Good food. Cute decor. Took a little long to bring the order. A few flies inside.
Generous portions for a reasonable price with a comfy diner vibe! Would recommend to anyone in the neighbourhood.
Huge portions of perfect classic breakfast food. Friendly staff and fast service. If you want eggspectation Carlton you re WAY better off coming here!
Great breakfast place. All the classic dishes, reasonable prices and the waiting staff have been there forever. Also a great conversation spot.
My favorite diner in Toronto. Fair price, delicious food, excellent service and a helpfull staff. Come back!
One of the coolest old school diners in Toronto. This place truly brings you back in time the food is fantastic the atmosphere is nostalgic and the service is up and beyond, Well worth your trip.
Extremely large portions. Ive never witnessed so much bacon that came with the order...as a bacon lover, I was in heaven...awesome service and LTGBQ2 friendly
Stopped in for brunch, it was delishes.
Get classic diner with old retro feel, huge portions decent prices. The staff are out of this world friendly!
Food and service overall could be much better
I love this place and the hash brown Medline are amazing.
Great food- tasty and perfect portion size. Busy spot for brunch on Sunday afternoons.
Placed a telephone order today. Turkey Club House with fries and a coke. When I arrived my order was bagged and ready to go. I trusted the order was correct. The cashier was rude and impatient. I guess he was having a bad day. I returned to work, opened my order and discovered the coke was missing, although I was charged $2.50 for the drink. I asked for extra mayo for the club sandwich but only received one small packet for the dry sandwich. The fries were soft, undercooked. It was disappointing wasting money on poor quality, over priced food. Cute Diner overall. Wheelchair accessibility: Front entrance is not wheelchair accessible.
Went there for brunch with my best friends. The service was great and the food was delicious. If you are in a rush to get in and out, this is not the place for you. If you have all the time in the world to catch up with old friends then I strongly recommend Chew Chews! Food
My favourite place for breakfast in Toronto.
Best place for breakfast! Good portions, reasonable prices, great atmosphere, owner(a) really care about their customer, and always working hard to keep the place going! Vegetarian options: Does salad count?
Breakfast for lunch. Very tasty!
Its nice Inside ! Great portions for the price ! I had the crispy chicken Eggs Benedict Yummm !!!
Love it! Nice food nice polite friendly service. Not to expensive. Reasonable prices.
Great diner to have a casual breakfast. Was not aware Toronto had such a delicious breakfast restaurant. Ordered Canadian style omelet and was impress how delicious it was along with the toast and homestyle baked potato. The quantity was more than enough for 1 person portion. The service was amazing with auto-water refills and staff immediately responding to calls and hand raises. Recommended to future visitors.
Great little corner cozy restaurant! Friendly staff very accommodating. The portions were amazing! The only pet peeve is please fix the bench seats.
Great breakfast for a great price in a great place
I want to love this place, but Ive had bad luck, sadly. Twice Ive had to wait almost an hour to get my food, but when it arrives, it is from not bad to good. Both times the servers were apologetic and gave me free booze. One more person on the floor and in the kitchen would help. The portions are too big; this is not the U.S.! Four eggs with the eggs Benedict is ridiculous. The homefries are over-seasomed with paprika an cayenne (?), with no onions or peppers. Im just trying to give some constructive criticism. Friendly staff, though.
This is good Message, from H E, kyagulanyi is in Luganda, Uganda
Amazing food
Serving sizes are huge! And food is amazing and very reasonably priced
Dont judge this gem by its neighbors. Food quality 10/10 food portions 9/10 service 10/10. This is my new breakfast spot, and Im extremely critical.
Ive never had a bad meal from here.
Love this place and happy theyre close, super friendly waiters and delicious food, especially brunch on weekends is so good, also good price and nice portions Highly recommended
Exactly what you want from a local diner.
For years this was the go-to diner for the core. Not anymore. A recent 25%+ increase with the new menu. The omission of the best hot hamburger meal in the city. Sadly, we had our last chew.
The portion for the price here screams absolute value, while being perfectly cooked. A standard to be compared to whenever you get a meal in different diners.
Good food, and friendly staff.
Going off the rails like a crazy . New ownership. Turkey club has been removed. Prices are like a run away train! Food : 3/5
Always great food at this diner, usually good service, however, that was not the case today. I ordered my usual bacon, eggs, homefries and toast, waiter came back with sausage, not bacon, when I said I ordered bacon he said sorry and stood there not saying anything else...like I will be right back with the bacon. \i then said I dont eat sausage, so I wouldnt order it, again he only said sorry but took no action to correct the mistake. My dining partner then asked for a side of bacon, again, another chance for him to correct the error and just take back the sausages and bring me the bacon I ordered, but no, he actually charged us for a side of bacon. I wasnt upset at the original mistake the waiter made, however, his handling of it was completely unacceptable and put a damper on the whole breakfast.
Amazing gem Great eggs benny, we travel from Niagara to eat here!! Owner is so sweet, chef is brilliant and atmosphere is quaint and lovely!!! Food : 5/5
Adorable little hole in the wall. Excellent food and service
Hey you know what do you expect you come into a place and you sit down and you get some water and a coffee and the water and coffee just keep coming and sometimes you hear somebody shuffling cards a few booths back its just that kind of place. I thought I saw someone working on a screenplay, but I cant be sure. He seemed distraught and he had the standard breakfast with sausage and then he seemed okay, so that was probably pretty good. I liked the radio station and the faux aggregate vinyl table tops, but the stairs make a loud sound when you walk down them and that startled me but then it reminded me that I was alive and that I had a beating heart I dont know if thats intentional but its what happened so sue me. As others have said: good portions. I had the eggs benny but I feel like it should be all caps in the menu because it was more of an EGGS BENNY if you know what I mean. 5 thumbs out of a possible 5 thumbs.
great old school diner. lots of food at reasonable prices
Super size all day breakfast at a cheap price, bacon and home fries galore and bottomless cup coffee. Friendly staff, relaxed ambience. Highly recommend.
Not busy on on a Wednesday but great service keep up who even made does pancakes were amazing
Cant beat the breakfast food here. Amazing bacon. Best prices in the city too for the quality of food.
Good value and friendly staff
Met my daughter there for breakfast before she left town last week. I had the classic eggs Benedict and she had the eggs Florentine. I was pleased they used proper pea meal bacon and there was a generous amount of spinach on the kids. Eggs were perfectly poached and refills of coffee. Server was pleasant and attentive and it was a delightful meal. Please note the College streetcar is not running so you will need to hike over from Yonge.
Cool painting on the outside wall, on the sign outside they have a picture of a train the smoke out of the train stack looks like McDonalds golden arches likely a subliminal thing to get your attention. Restaurant closes at 3PM so get here early.
I love Chew Chew s. It s my goto for breakfast in the area! The staff is great and the food is always incredible. If you want a really good diner experience, go!
Great home fries, caring service, classic diner atmosphere. I believe the more negative reviews are because they do not appreciate the appeal of a classic diner. The specials are a great price if you come before 11. Also, the owner cooks meals for the homeless so give a nice tip
Excellent food! Great prices!
Great local spot for brunch. Food is super tasty and portions are large
Chew Chews is a great place for a nice breakfast. Staff is always lovely. They have really cool train themes art and objects that are interesting to look at while you wait for your food.
Fantastic breakfast
Really good food - huge portions! - for a really good price. The waiters were super friendly, we had a great chat with them. Would definitely recommend!!
Honestly, Ive never had a bad experience here until today. Guess they dont want customers on a Monday for breakfast. The guy waiter (which isnt the cheery one) saw us sit down and rolled his eyes. They then purposely ignored us and we had to say hi to him before he said hi and it was sarcastic and didnt give us menus. Really disappointed as I have always supported this restaurant through covid. It will be awhile before I even think of coming back.
Lovely establishment. Cheap mimosas!
This place is legendary! I visited yesterday. Johnny as always killed it with his impeccable service. The food was above phenomenal like always. I ll be back as soon as possible. Thanks all!!
Very lovely dîner with great food and friendly service. I especially liked the variety of egg dishes they offer for brunch. Everything was delicious. And on top of that its inexpensive. Loved it here. Thank you!
Talk about great portion sizes for your dollar! Top quality, great service and awesome food selection.
This is worst experience I ve ever had in my life and it is not the first time that I experience this at this restaurant. They kept me waiting for more than a half hour for a pick up(doordash)and when the food was ready one server called me shouting and the second one did the same thing asking for the name on the order. This is not how it works We are here to pick up orders for customers and if that s the way you treat customers that s called disrespect No one should be treated that way even if it was not a customer. Please have respect towards people. If you guys are frustrated, just keep it for yourself and not throw it on other people.
ill never order here again they gave me fries when i ordered fruits. so they got my order wrong, and their pancakes were dry and not tasty whatsoever. disappointed
Love this place. Superb staff, and excellent, stick-to-your-ribs breakfast options. Im a bit of a Frans loyalist, but Chew Chews made me have second thoughts -- like an adulterous lover!
Cant wait to go back next time Im in Cabbagetown
My fave!
