THE BEST LITTLE DINER IN TORONTO
Went here today and it was great! The food is delicious, the staff were friendly and the service was good. They also have a good selection of Irish treats and drinks, as well as the best soda bread I've had in years!
This place is fantastic. I had the full Irish and added black pudding (just to try didn’t end up being a fan) and had some apple crumble with ice cream. Those sautéed mushrooms and onions were amazing and I finally understand why the English eat beans with this meal it went so well with everything. The staff were super busy but were kind and attentive. Overall I will be coming back often.
Glad we stopped in for breakfast, it was fantastic! I’d recommend this to anyone in the area, the coffee and soda-bread was great too! Will be back next time we are in Toronto!
The food is a bit overpriced in my opinion. The Irish breakfast is good but I ordered sausage but came in bacon lol. The eggs are nicely done but the tomato is rather small! Didn’t expect french fries because it cleared stated spuds in the menu. Atmosphere is a typical diner style which i do appreciate! Service could be a bit more attentive!
After a 20+ hour flight, the crew at the George Street Diner made me feel right at home. Simple, filling food and friendly service. What more can you ask for? Ultimate Irish breakfast worked a treat with plenty of coffee refills. The music, vibe & service was relaxed. Look forward to returning one day.
I discovered a fantastic local Irish diner in passing and decided to dine in for early breakfast. We ordered the Ultimate Irish Breakfast and the Huevos Ranchero and we also each ordered coffee for ourselves. I only found out afterwards that the coffee is both organic and fair-trade. Everything we ordered was delicious and super fresh. I love how they use free range eggs here. It's listed on the menu and you can definitely tell by taste and the colour of the yolk. The Ultimate Irish Breakfast comes with Irish Soda Bread. The Soda Bread is an Irish staple and quite unique as I have never seen this served at any other diners. I love the retro diner vibe inside alongside their matching upbeat music. Service here is fantastic and everyone is super friendly. It's a very small restaurant so it can get super busy here at times. Fortunately, they do have outdoor seating space which is nice. They also have a small Irish shop section inside the restaurant with snacks, sweets and their soda bread mix.
I love this diner. It makes you feel so homey and comfortable (even when dining alone). I like the decorations and the seats, but I particularly enjoy their food. Yesterday I ordered their chocolate chip and banana buttermilk pancakes - delicious! I just finished the leftovers today (still perfect). Thanks very much.
Friendly service and pretty decent massive Irish breakfast ($25). Bacon and sunny side eggs were overcooked unfortunately. One side of the Irish soda bread wasn't toasted (was soft). Tiny tomato piece. Spuds turned out to be french fries. The Irish rasher and Irish sausage were quite nice though. Seating could be more comfortable. The patio chairs are the tiny folding wood type.
Perfect spot for a bite! Amazing service.
Disappointing. I walked in with my sister. While my brother in law parked as parking is dreadful in the area. They would not seat us until he arrived. Ordered tea with lemon and tea came without lemon. If I wanted lemon, its an additional .10 cents. I wanted extra maple syrup as they dont give you enough syrup or jam with their French toast, which was nothing to write about. Extra 2 oz of syrup was extra, and so was the jam. After breakfast, they wanted us out asap. Never again. Not recommended.
Great little diner! Quick service
The ultimate Irish breakfast just like my Dad used to make. Will be going back to try the poutine.
Untouchable experience
If you re craving jail food, this is the place to be. I paid $70 for two meals, and honestly, the quality was appalling. The food was bland, iced coffee or mud water? Definitely not worth the steep price. I had high hopes based on the atmosphere, but the experience was a complete letdown. Save your money and go elsewhere won t be coming back!
I came here in a pinch to grab some breakfast takeout. Thinking I would opt for something basic and cheap, I ordered four scrambled eggs with toast. I paid $20.06 for that. I asked the cashier to double check the charge is correct, but that is indeed what you pay here. I won t come again. Not even jam included at that price point, smh. Save your money and go to Mystic Muffin around the corner. The plus: the staff is friendly.
Was in Toronto with work. Stopped in here for breakfast. Had a nice big diner breakfast. The service was excellent. Will return.
Love every menu i tried.
Best huevos rancheros Ive ever had. Such a great place and experience!
Such an amazing homemade & filling breakfast. Highly recommend the full Irish breakfast!! Our new favorite spot when we go to Toronto. Service and vibes were
Enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere. Will definitely be returning.
Haven t been here since I was a young boy! The vibe is outstanding and food service was quick and delicious
Great spot, great food. Excellent for some breakfast/lunch. The vibes are down to earth, everyone is so kind, felt like home!
A pleasant surprise. Very nice waitress and great food.
Unfortunately, I won t be able to give personal comments on food quality or price because I had to leave the diner even before I got a chance to be seated due to the staff s unbelievable hostility. While I was waiting to be seated at the entrance, I took a few pictures of the food being cooked on the stove. However, I was met with an incredibly hostile reaction from a kitchen staff who thought I took a photo of her. I tried to explain that I didn t intend to take a photo of her as I was pointing the camera at the stove top where there was something being cooked in the pan. However, she refused to listen and demanded that I delete the photos saying we are people, too (not sure why being in a photo would make her less of a person, and she wasn t even in the photos since, again, I was taking photo of the food). I saw that there was no point in dining in such a hostile environment, so I left and vowed to never come back. I can understand if she doesn t want to be in a photo, but here s a thing: part of what this diner sells is the nostalgic vibe. Do you really expect customers to not take any photos? You will somehow end up in a few photos anyway, ESPECIALLY since your kitchen is open and everyone can see what you re doing. Of course, I would understand if you d just explained to me if there was some kind of no photos policy here. But you chose to be hostile and refused to understand even when I explained that you re not even in the photos I had taken. So, yeah, in the end I wish this diner well, despite such lack of civility (and apparently despite the low quality of food, according to many other reviews). Who knows how far people are willing to patronize this establishment just to satisfy their longing for some nostalgic vibe, which seems like one of the very few things this diner can offer.
Great food and vibe. They were a little understaffed when I went, but were still on top of their game and the service was surprisingly quick.
The prices are way way too high for the quality of the food. The food is just fine,I ordered eggs over toast with tomatoe basil sauce, the bread was so soggy... I couldnt eat it. The tables and chairs are super uncomfortable, mimosa was expensive and not that good. Kudos for the quality of the free range eggs. Those were amazing.
Had an amazing lunch here with top-notch customer service! The food had a delicious, homemade vibe that made the whole experience feel comforting and special. Whether you re just passing through or looking for a go-to spot, this place is definitely worth a visit. Highly recommend for anyone craving a bite to eat with a warm, welcoming atmosphere!
Atmosphere is great, classic American diner experience. Service was good. Food is mediocre and way overpriced. $25 for a grilled cheese sandwich ($18.50 + 6.5 for two slices of bacon) raises my eyebrow.
The food was average, but what was really shocking to me was this: We arrived and the diner was full, except one back up table at the back. We sat there for a minute or two - and haven t ordered anything yet - then a regular table was immediately available, so I asked the waitress if it s okay move there - knowing that we HAVEN T ordered anything yet, and it s not a big deal to sit on the next table, when both are empty!!!! So the waitress said loudly, as if she s a policing us: We don t change tables once you sit, so I ll ask you to stay here, okaaay?! Me being nice I said no worries at the moment, but then have realized how rude this was!! What s the big deal for you if we sit at the other table?!! I took the subway to your diner from North of Toronto, to feel welcomed, to enjoy sitting by the window and look at the little minions and dinosaurs decorations, NOT for FREE, I m paying for sitting there, and definitely not begging for your average $35 burger. This is my first and last time, and I will never come back again to this place.
Loved this place. Was looking for something filling to eat before heading to the airport and found this diner. The club sandwich and fries were so good.
A fun atmosphere with a fresh take on the classic diner.
I went to George Street Diner for brunch with some friends to say goodbye to one who s getting married abroad. I was intermittent fasting, so I just had coffee while the others ordered enough food for themselves. We sat on the outside patio, which was pretty busy at first, but then it cleared out and wasn t busy at all. The owner was there, handling things, and that seemed nice at the start. But as we were wrapping up, a waiter came over and asked if we were done and if we could go pay at the cashier. One of my friends was still finishing her fries and told him we d pay when we were ready. Then the owner came by and asked if we were all eating those fries, which felt pretty rude, especially since the patio was now empty, and no one was waiting for our table. Overall, the experience was kinda disappointing. The food was just okay nothing to write home about but it was a bit cheaper than other places. Honestly, the vibe was off, and I don t think I ll be going back.
We had a delicious breakfast today. The pancakes were perfect and the stuffed French toast special was excellent. We would highly recommend the GSD!!! Also...thanks for making sure my milk was extra cold!!!!
Honestly very disappointing. I came here for my birthday breakfast and the place has completely gone downhill since I first came here. They used to have actual breakfast potatoes for their massive Irish breakfast. Instead they replaced them with French fries and fail to tell you before you order. The answer I got was we don t have them anymore , but they are real potatoes and we cut them ourselves French fries aren t spuds as their menu suggests. The owner wanted to save money apparently. Anyways, that breakfast was 25 dollars before tip, and I got a the tiniest tomato you have ever seen, fried soda bread that was toasted on one side, a tiny slice of regular bacon and one bacon rasher. The puddings are nice touches but it straight up feels like everything shrunk since the pandemic. If that is the massive breakfast I would hate to see how tiny the ultimate Irish is. My server was lovely and I know she s been here for ages. I don t blame her at all , still left her a nice tip. Dear owner! Don t cheap out on the good stuff that makes you famous. I recommended this place to loads of people over the years and no I m concerned I m going to regret it. #justiceforhomefries
Food - Great diner breakfast, with a menu a bit on the smaller side. Check to see if it has that thing your craving (ex. no eggs benedict) beforehand. The orange juice they have is delicious! Service - Staff are very attentive, friendly, and accommodating. Atmosphere - Going to a diner you should expect it to be a bit small and maybe a little cramped, but that is definitely part of the allure! If your not into that, they also have an outdoor patio.
Overpriced and their iced coffee has to be the worst I have ever had.
Great Irish breakfast and real rashers!!!
If you have only one thing, order and enjoy the Irish soda bread toasted with marmalade with a side of hot coffee while you admire the dozens (hundreds?) of kitchy toys that line the windows. A must-try Toronto experience.
This is for sure one of the best breakfast diners in the whole city. The food is incredible, the coffee is amazing, and they have some of the best servers in the whole city. Every time Ive been Ive had the lady with brown hair thats super fun and funny. I dont know how she manages to be so great while also being so busy but she kills it. You really need to try the George Street Diner. Great food, fair prices, amazing experience all around.
Its a unique experience. The atmosphere, the service, the people are all TOP! The staff is very attentive and the food is great! The bread is great and so are the fries. The omelette is to the point and very well seasoned. Coffee is always refilled and there is water so that you dont get dehydrated. The best so far in terms of atmosphere/service/taste. If you are in Toronto you should go there
Authentic, old school diner. Loved the place. Large portions of great food.
Great place for the classic diner experience with amazing food. We were able to get parking as well on the street across this place on a weekend which was a pleasant surprise as I was planning to book a paid parking spot nearby using spot hero.
First time getting an irish breakfast - it was definitely an experience. Winner for me would be definitely be the pancakes and coffee. Their coffee is absolutely amazing. Server was very helpful and the service was fabulous!
Authentic breakfast/brunch spot. I brought over three friends for hangover breakfast around 10, who enjoyed it very much and we left with happy tummies.
Awesome atmosphere, great helpful staff, good food and generous portions. A bit on the pricier side, however the food is tasty and fresh and the visit left a very positive impression.
Walked half an hour from our hotel to this diner. It did not disappoint. Great diner with good food and a good atmosphere, friendly staff and according to my son best breakfast ever (blue berry pancakes). We also had, breakfast sandwich, French toast special en a French toast with compote. Great place all round. Thanks
The recommended menu was a success. French toast with ricotta cheese and blueberries was fantastic. Home-squeezed orange juice is also the best.
Our favorite place for a weekend brunch! Food is so tasty and place is super cozy!
Get ready for a Diner experience!! Small, but warm! Very welcoming. I recommend the counter, where it is much more friendly and in direct contact with the staff! In terms of plate, you will be very well served, with lots of flavors! Very fair prices!
First time here for brunch, but certainly not our last! Service was top notch, food was delicious, coffee was good and plentiful - who could ask for anything more? Ask about the daily specials - today they were super delicious. If I had a wish (not a complaint), it would be for a bit more shade/umbrellas (we were very happy to be able to sit outside). The wait staff did their best to reposition what umbrellas they had, but just couldnt fully shade both people at a table. Thank you. Well be back soon.
Lovely place. Good food.
Mediocre food. The club sandwich was good but the bacon was terribly overcooked and the side salad was laughable. The pancakes were overpriced with barely enough syrup. Overpriced and underwhelming
I havent had a good breakfast like this in a while. Tasted just like home. 10/10
Definitely great, but a bit pricey for what you get. Expect to order a specific meal, you cant really just get bacon and eggs without spending a lot a la carte.
I loved it !!!!!! The server, the ambiance the food Everything was good don t hesitate it s worth it Food
June 28th, 2024. The two ladies on the patio made our experience AMAZING! Service 10/10! The homemade irish bread is to die for!
Cozy little diner, reminds me a lot of home... Get the ultimate Irish breakfast, its delicious! Food : 5/5
Even though it was crazy busy, the staff were all in good spirits and having a good time. Great energy in this place
Original diner - a great spot for breakfast. We enjoyed the Irish breakfast and the poached eggs on Irish soda bread with house made tomato and basil sauce. With a Freshly made orange juice. We sat inside where it was cool but patio also available.
love this place!
Great food in a classic diner. We went early. Was quiet. Kid-friendliness: Lots of cool little toys for kids to play with Food : 4/5 |
The Irish Breakfast was wonderful. Eggs, baked beans, tomato, sausage, French fries, and delicious Irish Soda Bread. The staff was friendly and efficient. Definitely recommend.
Looooove the vibe!!! Vegetarian options: Pancakes (not vegan) Food : 4/5 |
O wow! Totaly american style, amazing atmosphere and good food with friendly staff
Didn t really want to do a review as this is our favorite weekend diner. We love this place for breakfast on the weekends or lunch mid week. Kid-friendliness: Our kid is our puppy and severs are sweet and we met a very nice couple that loved our puppy & chatted with us during our brunch.
Top! Anyone looking for a diner must stop in this one!
This diner was brilliant. Staff were friendly and the food was great!
Classic all around!
Amazing breakfast, Massive Irish is a plate full of goodness, and the Croque Monsieur is a savory delight. Great vibe and staff.
Still one of best and friendliest breakfast place in town.
The best part of my breakfast was the water I brought. There was a bug in my salad and pancakes tasted like nothing. Overpriced and dirty
irish diner very good atmosphere The food is delicious and the staff are kind. BGM is Beatles or Carpenters. It makes me happy.
Gross
Very busy Sunday brunch inside is a tiny entrance where the kitchen is and a few tables to sit at, but thankfully, it was a nice day, and they had some outside seating. We ordered fries, blueberry pancakes, 2 over easy eggs, and side bacon..... The food was ok, nothing to shake a stick at. In my opinion, it was rather overpriced as that cost us 40 bucks. The eggs(2) and bacon(3 very overcooked pieces) were each 7 bucks! The only good thing was the fries.
Food will make you happy. Awesome staff, great energy, efficient, and quick service. Classic diner vibe. Great food! Great little experience.
Nice place, great staff. The foods were OK, not particularly my taste. The bread is hard to chew, though I find weird because they are not burnt? They offer both indoor and patio seatings, which is perfect for summer!
Wheelchair accessibility: There are no stairs Food
Hearty breakfast/brunch with exceptional and friendly service. Will return and recommend to others.
Retro aesthetic diner with cute little detail s throughout. Pancakes fluffy and delicious. you might be inclined to order extra maple syrup and ask for more butter as i wanted more for the amount of pancake served (very healthy serving). Got a side of sausage, which was very nice. The breakfast wrap was excellent.
We had breakfast here and we enjoyed the diner experience. Staff is really nice and friendly.
Amazing soda bread.
Dont really understand the hype around this place... food is mediocre really. What irks me most is the rush for you to leave. Obviously yes you have a business here but youre running a diner. People are here to chitchat and have a good time with their party, not to scarf their food down. Whats the point of bottomless coffee if I cant even sit long enough to enjoy a second cup? Our party was rushed to pay (of course, they just came with the POS machine without us asking which is incredibly rude). So our party pays for the food. 2 minutes later (my friend was just trying to finish up his coffee), the host comes with the machine to ask us to pay. We had just paid... like are you serious? Finally, a few more minutes pass by and the manager comes over to literally kick us out. Honestly, even Frans is a better pick cause you can at least sit down and chat with your friends without feeling pressured to leave in less than one hour. Never coming back. Dont suggest anyone to come here either as there is nothing special about their food. The only decent thing was the waitress and the classic diner look of the restaurant. Prices are not great either.
Great food. Good price. Good service. Cant go wrong.
Irish breakfast very good Service ok and we serve and refill coffee almost as much as you want Great atmosphere, I ate at the counter
Food was fantastic, the servers were phenomenal and everything was perfect. My coffee never went past half empty before someone came over to refill. The ultimate Irish breakfast is huge and very filling.
Havent had soda bread like that in ages. Server was a delight.
definitely not worth the hype .89$ for two plates of breakfast with two mimosas and a cup of coffee ..the food was severely disappointing ;(
I DONT KNOW WHY I HAVENT FOUND THIS PLACE EARLIER super tasty, organic and home made food! Eggs were so fresh, to die for sausages and bacon wow! This place will be my weekend spot now. Thanks for delivering such amazing service and food.
Finally got to try this diner after always seeing lines on the weekend. I came for lunch on a Wednesday and it wasnt hard to get a booth for 2 people. Note all guests have to be present before they seat you. We shared the ultimate Irish breakfast and the special: stuffed French toast with riccota cheese, blueberry and lemon. I found the portions a bit on the smaller end, but I really liked the variety and didnt feel too greasy after walking out. I dont think Id wait in line for this, but if youre looking for a lighter bite this is your spot.
A very cozy and efficient diner venue that we loved as a family The staff is super fast and super nice We had the Ultimate Irish Breakfast, Fish and Chips, Tomato Basil Poached eggs along with Grilled Cheese and it was the perfect brunch with reasonable and fulfilling portion size Truly loved each bite as it was so fresh and tasty and looking forward to trying other items on the menu
My first visit here exceeded all expectations! The inviting aroma from the grill and the friendly staff set the perfect tone. The diners nostalgic charm added to the experience. The Irish breakfast and pancakes were all standout dishes. The onions were caramelized to perfection. And the coffee was excellent too. I will be back!
Perfect. The food was yummy, the atmosphere super cute and original and the staff is verrrry friendly. Fav diner <3
Came here for the first time and couldn t be more satisfied. It s a small but cozy brunch spot with delicious food and great service. You must try their pancakes, they re to die for. Liz and Danny were amazing and made my friends and I feel so welcomed.
Just as good as the hype! Went there on a sunday morning and I was treated with amazing food and great coffee.
It s my second time enjoying this home-style breakfast at this cozy diner, and it was an experience worth raving about. The eggs were incredibly fresh and cooked to perfection, a testament to the quality of ingredients and attention to detail. However, what stole the show for me were the homemade bread and beans. The bread was warm, crusty on the outside, and soft on the inside, a true comfort food that paired perfectly with the flavorful beans. Its rare to find such care and effort put into every aspect of a breakfast meal, and it definitely paid off in terms of taste. The atmosphere of the diner was reminiscent of a classic old-school joint, with a family-friendly vibe that was evident from the moment you walked in. The sight of toys lined up on the windowsill for kids added a charming touch, making it clear that this was a place where everyone was welcome and catered to. Service was friendly and attentive, creating a welcoming environment where even the guests seemed like ideal customers. It all came together to create a homely feeling that made the breakfast experience not just about the food, but about the warmth and hospitality that accompanied it. I highly recommend this diner for anyone looking for a comforting and delicious start to their day.
I wasnt particularly impressed with the brunch. Tastes like regular greasy food, nothing special. We were only 2 dined. I noticed today that they added 15% service charge . This was not a group. We were only 2 people, yet they had the audacity to add their tip $7.53 . Entitled for nothing. Then I paid tip, not realizing they took their own tip.. Never seen this before
I had wanted to go to the place because it seemed charming but I was disappointed, especially with the service. A waitress and a waiter were rude, the service was slow, and they force you to consume. The table and menus were not so clean and it is also expensive for what you receive. A single pancake is $7.50 and the one I got was raw and they didnt offer a solution. Never coming back.
Reliable.
My favourite go to brunch place in the city! My go to is the ultimate Irish breakfast. The soda bread is unique and delicious. The greatest atmosphere, cool music and dope staff.
Love this place for an Irish breakfast
Real diner, with real home cooking. Even the orange juice was freshly squeezed! Very friendly staff. Quick too!
Now that I ve finally made it to the George street diner, I totally get it. The atmosphere is clean, fun, quaint . And the food was solid. Had the banana chocolate pancakes which were fluffy, not too sweet; my partner had the club sandwich on challah with coleslaw which were both excellent. Challah bread was soft, bacon was thick-cut, the coleslaw was clearly homemade and of the vinegar-base variety as opposed to creamy. Highly recommend!
Great food and service
Amazing food! Great service,
Great service and tasty food
A proper American style diner in the heart of Toronto! We had a great experience
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration with the service I received at your restaurant on Feb 24th. My experience left me feeling discriminated against and utterly disrespected. Upon arriving at your establishment, my party and I were informed that there was a wait due to all tables being occupied. We patiently waited our turn, only to witness other groups being seated before us, despite arriving after we did. What baffles me is that these groups, some of which were of the same size as ours, were given priority treatment. When I questioned the server about the unfairness of the situation, I was met with a feeble excuse that they thought we were a group of four. This explanation is not only nonsensical but also deeply troubling. Why would a group of four, regardless of their race or ethnicity, be prioritized over another group of the same size? The blatant disregard for our presence and the preferential treatment given to other patrons leads me to believe that I was subjected to discrimination based on my race. It is unacceptable that in this day and age, such biases continue to influence how individuals are treated in public spaces. I demand a thorough investigation into this matter and appropriate action taken against the server responsible for this egregious behavior. Furthermore, I urge you to implement comprehensive diversity and sensitivity training for all staff members to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. As a customer who values fairness and equality, I expect better from your establishment. I sincerely hope that you will take swift and decisive action to address this issue and restore my faith in your restaurant.
Ive always loved old school diners and this place exceeded my expectations. Its an old school diner experience with elevated food quality. I had the Irish Ultimate breakfast and my wife had the Blueberry pancakes. All of it was excellent with (where available) locally sourced, artisanal quality ingredients. If I was to make 1 critique (and Im nitpicking) is a diner should serve home fries instead of french fries. Just my opinion but Ill die on that hill.
Favorite breakfast here is the huevos rancheros with chorizo.
Food was rather good for a Diner. Strongly recommend it!!
This place sucks, the hosts were rude and unaccommodating. The manager had no idea what the ingredients were in their breads (we asked due to an allergy), and they upcharge for everything. Food was expensive and very average. Overall a very unwelcoming and miserable environment, I have no idea what happened because it used to be nice. The only good thing was the waitress who was very sweet, I hope her bosses are nice to her.
My girlfriend and I were visiting this diner for the first time. Since there were only the two of us dining, we were seated immediately. We placed an order for their grilled cheese and the Irish breakfast. Theyre both really tasty. On a Sunday morning, the place was crowded; if you cant wait for a seat, you might as well sit at the bar area where you can still enjoy breakfast in the classic diner style.
Proper diner with homely feel, friendly staff and great food. Love the Irish soda bread with the breakfast. Been twice now, about a year apart, and it was good both times.
Awesome local brunch spot offering a great change of pace to the typical Toronto brunch landscape. This diner has the old timey feel of the local eateries you d see in an old film with the hospitality to match. We had the Ultimate Irish Breakfast which was delicious and satisfying. Service was friendly and quick, even when tables began to pickup. Would definitely recommend this sport to anyone looking for a classic Irish breakfast, to change up from their regular eggs Benny spot, or to experience that classic diner feel.
I visited this diner last weekend. We had a line up but got the seats pretty soon. We ordered Irish Breakfast, Stuffed French Toast, Irish breakfast tea and regular coffee. Everything was delicious and our attendant was very cooperative.
Dined here on St.Patricks day, enjoyed the atmosphere.
Excellent diner! Had BLT with salad on challah bread
Long queue to get in but worth the wait. Service was fast and friendly staff. Food was great!
Visited this awesome dinner a few weeks ago. Great Irish breakfast !
Delicious breakfast reminds me of traveling to the UK.
A fantastic little gem of a dinner, with great food and service. Would become a frequent visitor if I lived in the Toronto area. The black pudding and Irish soda bread were delicious.
Recently visited The George Street Diner after exploring downtown Toronto, and it lived up to its reputation. Despite the long line outside, we waited patiently for about 30 minutes to snag a table. The diner has that classic appeal - narrow and cozy, reminiscent of a bygone era. The service was top-notch; our server was not only efficient but also added humor to our experience, joking about their curry pancakes. As for the food, we indulged in the Massive Irish Breakfast, the Irish Breakfast, and Plain Pancakes, all of which were hearty and flavorful. Overall, a great spot for a satisfying lunch or brunch recommendation from a friend. Parking: There s street parking at Britain Street but very limited!
Great diner! The service was friendly, attentive, and fast. Everyone loved their food [curry poutine was amazing]. 10/10 classic diner atmosphere. Groups larger than four might have a tough time sitting in one booth, and the average plate is $16. All in all, I would recommend.
Awesome Irish diner. Truly feels like stepping back in time. Definitely no frills - its a classic diner with classic fare. Staff are attentive and polite. Expect a wait on weekend mornings / early afternoons, though not too long as there is a 40 min seating limit.
Enjoyable and good atmosphere. Very personable wairter.
Best breakfast I ve had in ages. I had the breakfast sandwich and coleslaw and my partner had the Ultimate Irish breakfast but I wish I got what he got! The fries were perfection, just like an old chip truck! And the soda bread, wow! A proper diner too, just like a train car. Will definitely go again on my next trip to Toronto. Thanks, from Ottawa!
Great sandwich!
Superb soda bread
Im so glad places like this still exist in Toronto. Had a great experience today!
Food is excellent. Gets very busy for brunch so arrive early and get in line.
Wonderful Irish diner. Great service, great food. We lucked out and didnt even have to wait
Excellent old school diner
Food is average, however they up-charge you with absolutely everything. I ordered extra sautéed mushrooms and onions, and both separately were $4.50 when there only basically something there. I counted a total of 5 mushrooms on the plate. So I paid $4.50 for 3 small mushrooms. Kinda crazy because it was the same with onions. It was $42.32 for one breakfast.
Great breakfast, very busy on the weekends.
From now on my fav location for breakfast. Plus the staff and atmosphere were amazing
Best Dinner in Toronto, maybe in whole Canada. It is the dinner you saw in movies and series. Literally. They film here a lot. Food
I had the worst welcoming experience. The host is extremely rude and dishonest. We didnt got a table because our 3rd party person was parking. Even the customers behind us apologized with us... They have no clue about customer service. Food
A lovely little gem of a diner! My Irish Breakfast with bacon was a very generous portion, with two beautiful orange-yolked eggs, crispy bacon, baked beans, thick slices of hearty soda bread, and some of the best dang fries I ve had in a while. Excellent coffee, too. Go early if you don t want to wait we were quickly seated when we arrived at 10am, but there was a lineup out the door by the time we left.
Great food
My friends and I decided to try out The George Street Diner while I was visiting from Halifax. It was a first time for all three of us & surely wont be the last. When we arrived there was a short wait of about five minutes, we were then offered a spot at the bar stools instead of waiting longer for a table, which we took. The atmosphere was fun, the staff all looked happy as they sang to some great tunes and bounced around with smiles on their faces. Our food came hot & quick. Our server was friendly and had a great vibe. I ordered the Ultimate Irish Breakfast and it was the best breakfast I had while visiting Toronto. The eggs were perfectly cooked with a dark orange yolk. It also came with sausage, bacon and ham, all top notch and cooked perfectly, there was also beans, onions and mushrooms which were delicious. Additionally the breakfast came with some of the tastiest fries and there was also a soda bread which I had never tried before and when I enquired on ingredients (for allergies) the staff were extra helpful on what it contained. My friend had the breakfast sandwich and I had a bite.... oh my goodness, one of the best breakfast sandwiches Ive tasted ! The challah bread was sooo good !! I enjoyed everything about this Toronto gem. I cant wait to return to the city so I can go back to The George Street Diner !
Deciding whats truly awesome about The George Street Diner in Toronto is a delightful challenge because every aspect of this establishment is simply exceptional. From the moment you step through the door, youre transported into an atmosphere that feels straight out of a classic Hollywood movie. The decor and ambiance are not just tasteful; theyre an immersive experience, creating a setting thats both nostalgic and inviting. Now, lets talk about the food - its a masterpiece! The culinary offerings are nothing short of outstanding, and I dare say, they rival the best that Irish cuisine has to offer. The flavours, the presentation, and the quality are consistently top-notch. Every dish is a celebration of culinary artistry, making each visit a gastronomic delight. But what truly elevates The George Street Diner is its people. The lovely, loving, sweet Canadians who serve here make every visit memorable. Their warmth and hospitality turn a great dining experience into something truly exceptional. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure your time at the diner is not just a meal but a wonderful, personal experience. The George Street Diner is a gem in Toronto. Whether its the ambiance reminiscent of classic Hollywood, the food that competes with the best, or the outstanding service from the sweet Canadians, every visit is a testament to excellence. Highly recommended for anyone seeking a delightful dining experience in the heart of Toronto. Kid-friendliness: They go above and beyond to make your kids comfortable. A ton of Minions to play with. The people also happen to know how fussy kids can be :)
Great traditional diner breakfast with friendly and efficient service
After returning to this Toronto staple for the first time in 9 years, the atmosphere was wonderfully stuck in time, not a thing had changed, and I loved it. We had great customer service and a bottomless supply of fresh coffee. The food was good, but not as great as it had been on the past.
5 stars, what else can I say
It s so fetch!
Classic
A bit greasy but the atmosphere makes up for it. Street-style breakfast at the heart of Queen East.
Iconic address in Toronto. Change of scenery guaranteed
Irish brunch at its finest in a quaint old diner. Incredible white and black pudding (even better than many Irish spots!) and sublime Irish soda bread. Worth a visit for these two items alone. The eggs are free range and of high quality and the whole package is a smorgasbord of tastes. Link sausages and beans were great too. Get there early or late, but not in between as the wait can be long!
Vibe, food, and staff are all 10/10
Wonderful staff, good food and homey atmosphere. My friend and I felt so comfy we forgot time and the manager had to politely kick us out, as quite a few people were waiting in line for a table. Understandable, as the place is rather tiny.
I use to LOVE this cute little diner. Over the past year it has gone from being good vibes and good food to - neither. They have a 25$ ultimate platter breakfast that sounds huge and great - shareable - but you are NOT allowed to share it - rules on the bottom of the menu - or they will add 50% additional fee. Also it was tiny - a regular dinner plate with tiny things on it. The club sandwhich was the same - tiny and overpriced. The part I really dont like is the constant pressure to hurry up and leave - they asked us for our bill twice within 10 min (we were just done eating). I know they are a small diner - but the rules are a bit off putting, the food is small, there are no healthy options at all on the menu. Nope for us going forward - sadly - as we were regulars 2017-2020 - even supporting them during the pandemic by purchasing their soda bread kits
Very warm! Very delicious! My favorite diner!!
What a lovely spot, authentic diner experience and setting. Great service, good food, almost felt like I wasnt in Toronto!
Delicious Irish breakfast! The sofa bread and jumbo breakfast roll were top notch. It was a lovely experience, will come again!
The place is a cozy warming cute one. The food I would say is in moderate level. Still, fun to try. Specially for brunch.
Irish pudding is sooooo good! We are quite shock that this actually taste like food in Taiwan. Irish breakfast has a big portion I might order the smallest portion next time. Their bread is quite unique, taste like pound cake
Food was fine besides getting hair in my salad. Only got 2 dollars discount. We were basically rushed the second we sat down. Disgusting POS service.
Irish Breakfast was really good. I love the place, food and atmosphere. I will come back for sure
A bit pricey for what it is. Fries were +4 on an ordinary club sandwich
Always amazing food and service. Love this place!
I love it there. Tiny little place where you can have the real diner experience. The food is delicious & big portions and they are very fast at orders. Theit bread is extra tasty. However, I wish there were some more options or alternatives for vegans/ vegetarians.
This was our inaugural visit to this charming diner. While the interior had limited seating, they graciously offer patio seating on sunny days. We unanimously opted for the ultimate Irish breakfast, a delightful feast featuring three savory meats (bacon, ham, and sausages), delectable Irish soda bread, two perfectly cooked eggs, beans, sautéed onions and mushrooms, and, of course, their mouthwatering fries. I must say, their fries were fried to perfection! The Irish soda bread was a new experience for me, and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a fresh, corn bread-like taste that I found quite enjoyable. Each meat element was equally delectable. Overall, it was an outstanding culinary experience. The diner exudes a charming retro ambiance, and the booth seating is incredibly comfortable. Its safe to say well be returning for more culinary adventures.
It was so cool I loved everything about my favourite things was the little minion toys!
Classic Diner Experience. Very good food (Club sandwich) and friendly service. Will return to sample more menu options.
Great food, very friendly staff and authentic diner ambience. Excellent Club Sandwich!! Food
Amazing old school diner. Great homemade food. A true gem.
Grear food and great vibes
I been meaning to come here years. I ve always knew about this place but never actually went, but finally did. Everything about this diner is awesome & can see everything on the menu being just as awesome. Easy recommend!
Great diner experience. Food and service was great. Ultimate Irish breakfast is a must. Forgot pictures as it was too good to wait.
Top class. If you are looking for an authentic Irish breakfast this is the place to go.
The food and the service was amazing!! Definitely coming back when Im in Toronto!
The best place for brunch
Seriously the best breakfast spot in the city! Ive gone twice in the last week and tried about half the menu, everything is amazing. Blown away George! Blown Away!
We had a very well done breakfast, exceptional tasty food. Friendly staff and overall service was excellent. Highly recommend for a breakfast experience that wont disappoint you.
2023: Always delicious with wonderful service. A real treat. Only drawback: Due to limited seating, unaccompanied customers will be told to sit at the counter and not take a booth. If you have balance issues or dont like having your back to people you may want to reconsider. 2020: Great food in a casual, cramped space of booths, counter seating & one table for four at the back. Multiple meals over time have provided nothing but efficient, expedient service even when super busy. Well presented plates although the French Toast could use a couple of slices of bacon. Superb in-house jam sold by jar. Luv the Ultimate Irish Breakfast with baked In-House soda bread.
We really enjoyed this somewhat Irish themed diner in downtown Toronto. Service very good and food was great. Had a very tasty omelette.
