328 Spadina Ave., Toronto, ON M5T 2E7, Canada
Cozy Chinese eatery for fried & steamed pork, shrimp & veggie dumplings, plus rice & noodle dishes.
Our recent visit to Dumpling House on Spadina was our first time back since the pandemic, and it brought back many memories! The food remains solid, with the same delicious flavors and authentic taste that Dumpling House has always been known for. We especially recommend the pork and chive pan-fried dumplings – they were perfectly crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside, and full of flavor. It’s definitely a must-try dish if you’re visiting. However, while the food quality hasn’t changed, the ambiance feels a bit tired. The interior could use a facelift, as it’s starting to show signs of wear and tear. A renovation to freshen up the décor and seating would not only improve the dining experience but likely draw in more customers. It would really enhance the restaurant’s appeal and help it stand out in the competitive Chinatown area. We went on a Saturday night and found it to be relatively quiet, which was surprising. Although it was nice to avoid the usual weekend crowd, we couldn’t help but feel that a more updated and inviting atmosphere could bring back some of the bustling energy that Dumpling House used to have. With a little investment in the décor and ambiance, the place could easily become a hotspot again. All in all, Dumpling House is still a good option for tasty, authentic dumplings, especially if you’re craving the classic pork and chive pan-fried dumplings. We enjoyed our meal, but we’re hoping to see some improvements in the ambiance on our next visit.
This is a place worth the travel. 2 Meals costed 37$ with tip The food is made fresh and quick. It was a full house, but we got our food within 10 minutes
Cash only, but an ATM on site. A favourite of mine from my college days. Good simple delicious food, most dumpling offerings are 18$ for a full plate of 12 dumplings. My favourite is always pan fried chicken. Table comes with soy sauce, vinegar, and chilis. Cannot recommend highly enough for a quick bite to eat in the heart of Chinatown.
Ate here with a group of my friends! We ordered 4 plates of dumplings! Tasted great! ☺️ I really liked the pan fried dumplings!!
Really good restaurant for pan fried dumplings. I’ve eaten here ever since I was a kid and I always loved it. Coming back after a while makes the food just as good, and it’s still the exact same as before. As a note, this place has been closed down before for a rat infestation, so keep that in mind. Personally, I like rat dumplings :3
We ordered the fried dumplings, some with beef, others with lamb and others with pork (they are the ones I liked the most), all of them are very good. They are made at the moment and by hand 🥟 They have a very tasty chili and garlic sauce. Their service is quite fast and the place is quite clean They have a wide and varied menu. The noodles also look good although I did not try them. I highly recommend it, they are very good. Most of the dishes cost around 16 CAD
This place is cash only, they have an atm inside which charges $2.75. Had lamb pot stickers and pork and cabbage steam dumplings. Both were pretty good, although with fairly thick skins. The egg gravy noodles and tomato and egg over rice were both good but very salty. Bathrooms are not terrible but also could be cleaner.
We ordered: 1. Fried mixed vegetable dumplings => Tasty but too much oily. Won’t recommend. 2. Steamed mixed vegetable dumplings => Very good. The service is good. They make dumplings in front of you. I really liked this concept. But they accept only cash. No cards. Be aware while paying the bill cause they automatically include the tip in the bill.
I returned to the restaurant after about fifteen years, I had very good memories of the dumplings, and I was not disappointed! I had the fried pork and chives dumplings, great taste. The dough is homemade in front of your eyes, so the dumplings are made to order. The room is not the most pleasant but typical, payment only in cash but an ATM is available in the restaurant.
BEST DUMPLINGS IN THE CITY. Great price and delicious !
I love the freshly made dumplings. Even though not noted anywhere, I can taste it s a northeastern Chinese restaurant with authentic freshly made dumplings. The dumplings are juicy and huge. I love the sour cabbage and fennel ones. It almost makes me nostalgic. Northeastern approved. The dishes are not as salty as expected, they are fried to the perfect extent with right amount of sauce but just a little bland to my taste. Good but could be better.
Dont go to this restaurant. The service is rude, the food is not clean, and there is wire on the dumplings. Cash only.
I ve been coming here since 2017, but this time was disappointing. The service was extremely slow. We ordered spring rolls to start, but they arrived after the main food, and my friend s veggie dumplings came out last, long after everyone else s. They only gave water to two people at our table of four and never came back to refill. The lamb steamed dumplings, which used to be juicy, were dry this time. Honestly, I was shocked, had much better experiences here before.
Not the biggest fan of this restaurant. I know its been around for a while but its just too cramped for me inside and the place was not very clean in my opinion. Very sticky tables after they were cleaned (yuckkkk). Washrooms werent much better with two massive spiders awaiting for me at the urinal (nice!). I also felt a bit sick afterwards. This place is not up to my standards. Sorry
Was going to find a place for dumplings originally and we walked passed this restaurant, thinking we can try out this restaurant without seeing the reviews. Orders the steam dumplings and the fried ones. Both of them taste ok but the dumpling wrap is so thick. I prefer thinner dumpling wrap. Everything s fine till we asked for the bill, they gave us a paper and wrote down the total. Both of the dumplings retail for $15.99 and they just wrote $16 on the paper. What s more? Even if we count as $16 for each plate of dumplings. Two plates of dumplings after tax should be $36.16, but the restaurant just wrote down $37. I m not sure why they are doing this, it s not honest at all. I don t mind giving tips to round up but that should be the customer decision not the restaurant.
The absolute best general tao in town. Dumplings are mind blowing.
One star is enough the dumpling are so bad and the price isn t fair. Maybe I should call cops or something. It s a scam.
Flavour is okay, service is mediocre. Fried dumpling quite oily. Server is busy talking to his friend than serving guests. The restaurant also rounds the bill up to the nearest dollar...
Smashing IT! Deviously Delicious! Muah! Perfection! It hits the spot just where and when in need it too. I ordered the pork & cabbage dumplings, Shanghai noodles, and hot & sour soup. Very pleasant and nice staff as well.
A very terrible store. I ordered Shanghai thick fried noodles and beef fried rice. The Shanghai fried noodles were completely sweet and had almost no meat. The fried rice used a lot of soy sauce. The whole plate was dark, and the beef slices had no taste at all. When it arrived, At checkout, the meal we ordered should be 36.1374 yuan after tax, but he wrote it directly as 37 yuan, and only took cash and did not give a receipt. He gave 50 yuan, and the final answer made me dumbfounded. , he even asked me if I wanted change. Could it be that I should give you a 40% tip , but the attitude of the male waiter was very good, so I gave him two stars. A very terrible store. Food was excellent, fast and friendly service. Highly recommended! Food
When we went in today, the young waiter wearing a yellow shirt showed us to our table. After we were done eating, we were told it was cash only. The waiter proceeded to yell at us saying it was cash only when in-fact he hadnt. Not only did he lie to our face but was also very rude. Additionally, no where outside of the restaurant does it say it is cash only. Very disappointed with the customer service and the environment of the restaurant. Ordered Pan fried dumplings which were very VERY oily, there was a pool of oil on the plate.
The waiter had a bad attitude. The meat in the dumplings was still red and undercooked. Although the portion of braised noodles was large, the sauce was not enough and only tasted like soy sauce, which was unpalatable!
Best dumplings of Toronto! Portions are really big and worth sharing.. Cash only, but they have an ATM
The dumplings were really crispy. 16 dollars for 12 . Loved the lam fried dumplings the most
The two young waiters in the restaurant were very efficient, friendly, and attentive. Service was very fast and the food tasted amazing! The waiters were quick at cleaning up after customers finished eating; leaving the restaurant clean. Will definetly be returning here again!
These are the best fried dumplings I have ever eaten. The restaurant only takes cash. They have an ATM in the restaurant. Vegetarian options: They offer vegetarian dumplings
Dumpling was great. Even dimsum wrapper and crunchy residue were tasty. Be ready with cash to pay. They have ATM inside the restaurant but have extra charge.
Tight, cash only, but most importantly, AMAZING DUMPLINGS!!!
The cutlery and cups were very dirty, and the condiment bottles had not been washed for a long time. Cash only and intentionally miscalculated prices. A portion of dumplings costs 15.99, which turns out to be 16. We ate a total of 16*3+9=57. Even with tax, it was 64.41. As a result, the bill directly became 65. A businessman with no integrity.
Amazing food !! No words to express the flavours
Everything was amazingggggg. We ordered the steam and pan fried dumplings. Both were super delicious. Portions are decent. You get to order tea as well. Food
Cash only Tastes excellent Great service
So sad it was closed on Tuesday when we passed by. Dumplings are so delicious and worth a trip to china town. Can also pick up frozen dumplings to enjoy at home.
Order a steam pork, shrimp, chive dumping. It tasted spoiled and undercooked. Restaurant didnt take order back nor discount the order.
Highly overrated place, I will never recommend to anyone. Tasteless. Waste of money. I tried their popular dish pork and chives pan fried dumplings and chicken fried noodles, it was not worth.
The meat preparations for dumplings are left in the open air to warm, safety to be reviewed... The pan fried dumplings were disappointing, no taste, stiff. I absolutely do not recommend.
Absolutely amazing food here. Ordered several different types of boiled and fried dumplings and each plate tasted great. The best part of dinner was actually a shredded pork with green chili dish. I ve had this dish at other restaurants across several different countries, and the dish here was the absolute best and most authentic I ve ever tasted. 1000% recommend this place. It is a bit on the smaller side but trust me the food is well worth it!!
The rudest owner and server made me never come back
Delicious pork and cabbage dumplings, made fresh then steamed....the best dumplings I ever had!
HUGE doughy dumplings with lots of filling for great price!!! So glad we tried this place!
Omg delicious food
Best dumps in town. Pork n chive + pork n fennel are my faves.
We always eat there since 2012 until end 2019 then covid. We still bought 1 time in covid time. The dumplings were still good. We just come back the to eat there again but the taste completely different. Especially the chicken fried rice taste become so horrible and the colour also different. They must be have new chief.
Amazing food (hot, fresh, flavorfull, and served fast) nice and quite atmosphere, cute and very clean inside, and large food portions. 100% recommended
First time and will be last time!! Paying cash means no tax, and owner got super upset for not tipping!!
Easily the best dumplings in the city. Been here many times and have never been disappointed. Great place to take friends!! Pan fried dumplings are the absolute best!!
I wonder why they still charge for the tax when the payment method is cash only? Ordered the shrimp and vegetables dumplings, which tastes bitter at first bite, lackluster thereafter.
Go rob them the restaurant is cash only. Terrible food terrible service.
A local friend recommended this place to us but unfortunately we were very disappointed. We should ve left when they dared to ask for 1:1 Canadian dollars for USD. Then, we got served with a plate of bok choy that s made of all stems (the leaves are what give the flavors). Never have I ever had a bok choy dish like that anywhere else. The fillings of boiled dumplings were bland and did not have the umami flavor of freshly made dumplings, though I did like the wrap. The potstickers were very oily in and out, rather than being crispy and juicy. We also got a bit sick the second day.
I recently visited Dumpling house restaurant, and unfortunately, my experience was far from pleasant. From the moment I walked in, I encountered an unwelcoming atmosphere due to the rude behavior of the staff. They seemed disinterested and dismissive, which made the dining experience uncomfortable. The management did not seem to fare any better. My attempts to address the issues were met with indifference, and it was clear that customer service was not a priority. This lack of professionalism from both the staff and management significantly detracted from what could have been an enjoyable visit. Overall, I was highly disappointed with my experience at Dumpling house restaurant and would not recommend it. A restaurant should offer not just good food but also a hospitable environment, and unfortunately, this establishment fell short on both fronts.
Best dumplings ever, and Ive had them all over North America. Do yourself a favor and check this out if youre visiting the city. The locals know how good it is.
Delicious dumplings and excellent service!
Many people enjoy this restaurant. The dumplings are very good, but the other dishes were a bit greasy for my taste. Parking is also challenging. Even the Public P is always full, especially during prime time.
Food is good, service from servers are good. However, the owner yelling at the server to ask us to leave and come back for our order instead of waiting and dining at the table is another situation. Not only is it rude to yell at the server but for the whole restaurant and its patrons to hear is just not appropriate nor respectful.
ordered dumplings here: pork and cabbage, fried pork and cabbage, shrimp and vegetables. The others were fine, but the shrimp and vegetables taste bitter, something is off.
Food portions are big & price compared to it is okay but taste is subpar. Dumplings tasted so plain. Veggie side plate didnt feel fresh. Service is not great as well. I had to ask the waiter for water even though the place was empty and he was watching. He was quick to hand me the bill when I put my chopsticks down. Cash only. They have an ATM machine inside. Location is Chinatown so the atmosphere is present.
People were nice - food was okay. Debated a few different options and guides before coming here because it was highly suggested - had the pork and chive fried - very oily and pretty overly salty even without any sauce.
Food is very meh. Atmosphere is good, service is on point but it genuinely does not feel like an authentic dumpling spot. Way better options nearby
Ive been there once and wont go there again. I sat in the seat closest to the kitchen. I felt that there was no range hood in the kitchen. At first glance, the kitchen was foggy and smoke was flowing outside. There was no air circulation inside. I didnt wait for the food to be served. I can hardly sit still. Still only accepting cash? Why?
Hair in food
I don t want to even rate their food when the staffs there are so rude My child took chopsticks for the takeout food, he wasn t aware of the cutleries are already kept. 4 staffs jumped on my son yelling in Chinese and he got scared and nervous Even after conveying their rudeness all I got was the elders don t know English Even the young staffs did not apologize. Hope they are good with their ethnicity.
Tip: Order fried lamb dumplings. The best one in GTA Food
It is a great place for delicious hot food. However over recent years, the service has been less friendly and inviting. I felt rushed and uncomfortable on my most recent visit.
Wow been a while I have been here . Prices have gone from 9.99 to 15.99 cash payment goes to 18. I always thought cash was tax free.. But any how its not as busy as it used to be . Food is ok still consistent. But across the street its cheaper and much juicer . For this price they are lot of other options out there .
Real grungy feel but the best spots are like that. Dumplings are amazing but eggplant was so so.
Shopping along Kensington must come with a visit to this joint. The food and service were really lovely, but the only thing was that it only accepted cash, so make sure you have some on you. Like all eateries in Canada, the food is best that you consume with a friend. ( ie. you can share, or else you will end up putting on weight), because the helping is HUGE, by Asian standard. The mushroom fried noodle was really good with their special sauce, and in the cold weather, the hot and sour soup really worked wonders. Finally, we chose the pan-fried dumplings since they came in servings of 12 pieces instead of the steamed ones, which came in helpings of 15 pieces.
I was quite excited to eat here. But when I walked in the whole place smelled like a very nasty toilet. We couldn t stand the smell and had to leave.
The food wasnt great. The dumpling is too soft and easily broken. The lamb dumplings have a heavy smell if that matters to you.
ALL of the dumplings are amazing. It s small and cramped, the tables are a little slimy But I still love going.
+ Fried Dumplings was good with pork filling + Staff was nice Everything else was just below average - Plates, chopsticks, spoons, and tables were oily and dirty - Service water didn t taste good enough Did not look clean enough either - Place does not look clean Nothing amazing here
On vacation and saw this place recommended on a pinterest post. So glad we came because this was legit some of the best food I ve had in my life. Definitely the best dumplings. Considering moving to Toronto just for this place.
Went on Monday. There were not many people in the store. An old woman, who must be the boss, was too noisy. She was yelling back and forth, which affected her appetite! Parking: Very difficult to park. There is no parking lot. Not easy to find a parking space.
I debated leaving this review because I dont necessarily want to negatively affect this business, but I think people should know about my experience. Its a hole in the wall, but seems to be generally recommended so we thought wed stop in for some dumplings. When I bit into my second dumpling, there was a piece of something extremely hard - like a rock - and it immediately broke one of my front bottom teeth. I was really upset about it, and I told the server (maybe also the owner?) right away. He apologized and took care of the bill which I appreciated because I wanted to get the heck out of there as fast as I could. I got my tooth fixed today, but it will never be the same. It was really unfortunate and disappointing.
I didnt go in because I didnt have any alcohol.
Their food is amazing! It s so good everything else is secondary. The service is okay, it doesn t take long until the food comes after ordering. So perfect if you just want the best fried dumplings and spring rolls ever. Vegetarian options: There are veggie dumplings or noodles.
Cash only. Dishes are large (with prices scaled to match).
Good place but not very clean. The tables and utensils are dirty. Plates are clean but the sauce containers are very dirty and sticky. The place has an off smell and there isnt much ventilation. It used to be much cleaner so Im not sure what happened.
unhygienic place!
I use to come here quite often around 5-6 years ago. Normally I order dumplings only but today I decided to swing by for lunch and ordered dumplings ofc, a noodle dish and bok choy. Dumplings came out consistent like how I rmb it but the bok choy was very very disappointing never in my life have I been served bok choy with only the stems and the leafy part cut off (refer to photo) when I asked whether it was normally served this way the female employee didn t understand my question. Sad to say I probably won t be back.
Lamb Fried Dumplings - (4/5) They might want clean the vinegar bottles more. Food : 4/5
Hoooooolala.. I wanted to go there, the group that accompanied me wasnt hungry.. I missed my chance. Seeing employees making dumplings in a row behind the window, of course it touches the imagination! Well... its only a matter of time, one day Ill try their fried dumplings!
Years ago, I consumed two squares of LSD and went to this place. On the way there I lost my friends lol. I convince the stuff that I have a group of people and they join four tables together for me. I end up ordering 6-7 portions just for myself. Back to the review. The place and food is good. Consider taking out. Or..
We tried the steamed pork and chive dumplings and the chicken fried ones, it was excellent ! I would highly recommend the freshly made dumplings !
Have been going here for many years. Food always good but last week we were here and freshly cleaned table was thick with grease . Dishes had to be sent back as all were greasy. Waitress didnt speak english and soup we ordered never came. Paid to use their ATM and declined to give a tip. Older woman at cash was tapping the bill with her finger repeating tip not included tip not included. We had expained our disatisfaction but she continued finget tapping on bill tip not included tip not included. Very Rude. I love the food but come on guys. Clean up your act We will go back again in a few weeks and if still the same then no more.
Im not really happy with the service. There was rockin my food. The dough was too thick. Shrimp and vegetable dumpling was tasteless. It was my first time trying it and its going to be my last. Waste of my hard-working money.
The last time I visited this place was about five years ago. It was good, not excellent, but still a reliable option for dumplings. I know this place is an institution in Chinatown. During my childhood, there were limited options for good and authentic Chinese food. However, my recent experience was extremely disappointing. The Shanghai fried noodles were oddly too sweet, and the fried dumplings were soggy rather than crispy. The boiled dumplings were the worst; the wrapper tasted old and frozen, and the filling tasted strange and bland. I feel like the food is catered to non-Asians. The service was pretty terrible. The younger man was a bit rude, but the older gentleman (maybe the owner) was much more pleasant. The restaurant also had a peculiar wet basement smell, which I could have ignored if the food was worth it. Im not sure if my taste buds have changed with all the better Chinese food options now available, especially in the Markham/Scarborough region, or if Dumpling House has truly gone downhill. If youre looking for nostalgia, you might visit, but youll probably leave disappointed with the food.
Small place for a big group. The spicy chicken noodles are a must try
Delicious food, unfortunately a piercing of mine fell out so I couldnt sit and enjoy properly but my goodness the food I did get to eat was amazing! Definitely one of the best dumpling places Ive been to yet in Toronto! 5/5 Stars!
Amazing dumplings, decent prices
It hurts me to post this because the food is tasty and I want to support local business, but people should know a few things about this place. 1. The owner does NOT give tips to the servers although the servers work so hard. The tips goes directly to owner s pocket. 2. Check your bills closely. The owner tries to run up from 0.20 to a dollar.
This used to be my go-to place for dumplings but I think they may have changed owners. The food is noticeably worse.
One of my favourite restaurants in Toronto. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff have always been friendly, the service is impeccable, the prices are fair, and the food is to die for. I ve been a regular customer here for almost a decade now, and the food never disappoints. I highly recommend it. Vegetarian options: They have some great vegetarian options
Ordered 3 types pan fried dumpling for 17.99. half way through the meal the server drops the bill on the table, charging $21. Asked what the 21 was for and he says it includes taxes. After showing the proper number on calculator, he says I can pay that if I want. Put down a 100 bill and he gave 74 in change.
After looking for a good spot to eat we choose this one for the good reviews...Our surprise when we were served the food. From the start we had an unpleasent feeling, the Staff a young man was very rude when we came in. Didnt really feel welcome, more of a if You have to than please come in. The Staff that came to fill our cups with water ignored me when I said that Im ok and dont want it and did it so non chalantly that when she was retriving the jug she spiled water over my friends plate of food and on him and just went around her day. XD No sorry, no nothing. I still had my hopes up cause the food smelled amazing. Yet, the worst part was the food, we took 3 plates so we can try different stuff. Soggy Chicken dumplings and lamb dumplings and chicken with veggies and to that we took a bowl of rice. The meat didnt had any taste if it wasnt for the soy sauce the chicken dumpling wouldnt be eatable. You just tester the soy sauce not the food itself. The chicken with veggies was the same, You couldnt taste the meat, the veggies were good. The Bowl was really little and You had to additionally pay for it. For the other place that I went the Bowl was really small. The worst for last, the lamb dumplings. I took one bite and had to spot it out. I dont remember the last time I really would throw up because of the taste of the food. And Im a foody, I like different foods. And its different if You dont like the taste of something but this was too much. Its was just disgusting. .It was a really sad experience. I guess if Youre a vegeterian You could like the place...? But do not take meat in this place!
Sorry for just 2 stars, but you guys are clearly relying on your reputation to stay afloat. As the hole in the boat continues unabated, baling out the water does little to fend off the imminent presence of the present. The House Fried Noodles were super-greasy, and the classic pork n chives dumplings were just decent. The staff were much better--very pleasant and attentive. But the charm of their dumpling past has sadly been reduced to crusty roadkill in the wake of the stench of urine in the corner, the ominous jungle of dirty walls and restaurant supplies as you navigate to the washroom, and the blame-it-on-COVID high prices. Ladies and gentlemen, its time to move it along--nothing to see here.
Very traditional chinese home style food. Most stood out dish was the egg tomato rice. You can probably find cheaper option offering similar food but the food is not bad. This place is small and packed. Not very comfortable seating Parking: It s in China town so don t expect free parking.
Better go to Tiny Cafe in Little Tibet for the best dumplings at half the cost. We ordered Pan fried dumplings again because we liked them. The lady brought us steamed. We said we ordered Pan fried. The owner yelled something in Chinese or other foreign language and banged our plate down. The waitress came and said we have to take it because they already prepared it. We are quiet kinda people who dont like to make a scene and took it quietly. We didnt finish, because it was terrible, there was dirt in the spinach dumplings and the rest were doughy. Go to other dumpling houses nearby, with better service and for lesser price. They take only cash, but still collect tax. I left without giving a tip.
Worst place to be . We were treated poorly. One of the dishes we ordered was general tso chicken. It was completely awful. Tastes exactly like sweet and sour with very thick overpowered corn starch sauce. I took one bite, and requested to Wait staff if we could get something in exchange. He said he would ask his boss/ owner. Then 19 minutes later, we asked another waitstaff, her reply was the same. The owner then came aggressively saying No exchange, no we cannot do anything, it s holiday. So arrogant, completely careless about the customer service. What an awful experience. I am not sure, how they are in business with such attitude. I would not even give 1 star.
Went here about an hour ago just by myself. The uncle served me! He was so nice!!!! Cash only though but they do have an atm at the store. I got the pork and shrimp dumpling, theres 15 pieces in there. I also got scallion pancake. My total was 27! Felt like i ate all you can eat, so so full until now. The chinese tea was amazing, i finished a whole pot! left a big tip because everythings so good and the uncle is very nice. I lingered there for a bit to do some work too while sipping on hot tea. Recommended!
Great dumplings still! And the mapo tofu on rice. Totally tasty.
foods are bad, and they only take cash but still put taxes on it. the smell in the restaurant is also like washroom.
terrible service, force you to pay high tips, not again
Quick and polite service, amazing food, clean tables and quiet atmosphere. Even my Dutch friend liked traditional cuisine, would recommend to anyone!
Good tasting food. Momos(dumplings) are made fresh for each order and tastes different. I tried chicken pork noodles and dumplings. Both were good. Service was fast for noodles but dumplings took some time as they are made fresh from scratch. Side note: Only cash restaurant.
Location is small, but the food blows you away. We got the steamed pork and fennel and the fried pork dumplings and I have to say it tasted absolutely spectacular. The food was presented nicely and quickly. The manager was really passionate about what he does.
These are the best dumplings and potstickers Ive had since I moved to Canada! Everything is made fresh and the servers are really friendly. These dumplings taste like home.
We have been going there for 13 years now,we go usually once or twice a year because its not that close to where we live, went there recently and had soup spilled on us,it was cold out so the scolding hot soup soaking through our clothes was kinda nice,we just got up and left, guess well try again next year. The dumplings are really good,so is the food,I recommend the wonton soup,if you can get it in you and not on you.
I cannot rave enough about this place. We go to this restaurant weekly! My favourite are the chicken pan fried dumplings and the hot and sour soup! Being the momo/dumplings lover that I am, these are hands down the BEST dumplings Ive had in Toronto. Service is quick, food is nice and the Dumplings are out of this world :)
It tastes okay! The price was reasonable and the quantity was large, so it was good value for money. However, the dumplings were not fully fried, but only the bottom was fried. That was a bit disappointing. Shrimp fried noodles were moderately light fried noodles and did not have black bean sauce! Please note that only cash payment is accepted.
This is a mean restaurant. I was with my 6-year-old son, eager to find a dumpling place with a washroom (restroom). They saw I am from out of town and said theyre cash only. When I indicated I can only swipe my card and my son wants to go pee. One of the staff said I could use their washroom and we were on our way there, only to be stopped and yelled by the boss of the restaurant -- you must place an order now... The rest is silence. Dont go there!
Amazing dumplings place in town.
Food is average, cash only, they round up items in the bill and add tax that they never submit to the tax authority, because there are no receipts .The woman (owner?) is rude and very loud, demands 10 % tip on the way out. The place is old and very hot. Stay away.
Never disappoints, the pan fried lamb dumplings are my go to and is a must have! Love their chicken and broccoli with brown sauce on rice too.
I decided to go to Dumpling House after decent research on good Dumplings in Toronto. I miss NYC chinese food scene a lot, so search began. I ordered their specialty pan fried lace Dumplings ( I ordered mixed veg). They made it fresh in front of me. I got to see the whole process. It was amazing. The owner/person in charge was present there and was very to have chat. Overall pricey because the portions are big. I was alone so couldnt get more stuff since the serving of the Dumplings had 12 pieces. I would definitely go again and try their other veg options. Vegetarian options: Mix veg and mushroom Dumplings and few appetizers
Wo cao ni ma
Without a doubt my favourite spot in the city to get dumplings. It s just so nostalgic and you know exactly what to expect when you get there, superior food but subpar service - honestly can t complain. Wish the AC was working though cause it gets quite hot
I ve been to this place a couple times and enjoy it! We got the Gong-Bao Chicken over Rice and the Pork and Chive steamed dumpling. The chicken s sauce was delicious and the veggies and chicken was done well. The dumplings are made fresh to order and were juicy with some nice flavour! I love their chilli sauce. The prices are reasonable and this place is cash only. The downside is that there is no AC, so it was super hot.
Great place for dumplings. The family favourite is fried pork and chives. Its cash only so come prepared.
Average restaurant , price is going high and food is ok
If you dont care about cleanliness and order and want to eat excellent ravioli, this is your place. I hope you dont need to go to the bathroom. Not only because its horrible but also because you pass in front of the kitchen which is better not to see. Its nice that you see the window where they prepare the ravioli Vegetarian options: You can also find vegetable ravioli
wow...love this place
We had pork&shrimp dumplings and Shanghai noodles at this place. The food was good, but the place was crowded. It accepts cash payment only and it is clearly stated as well as informed by the staff when entering the restaurant.
One of my favourite spots in the city. Great food. Cash only though.
We have been coming to Dumpling House many times because the food is so delicious! Only drawback is the service, they are not especially welcoming or friendly. Wheelchair accessibility: Does not really seem very accessible. The aisle into the restaurant is very narrow even for standing or walking.
Love this place. Anything we get is always delicious. Cash omly
Been to this place a number of times, but service wasn t the good on out last visit. Took the waiter a long time to bring us water and we got the bill before our order got to the table. They seemed very desorganized and it was not that busy.
Been to this place many times, and the pork and fennel dumplings are our favourite. So good!
Excellent food and service! Atmosphere very interesting and with aspect that you are in China! In all aspects!
Cash only. Great comfort food. Try the Egg Drop Soup.
I placed an order on Uber for frozen dumplings and a bottle of vinegar on September 4, 2023. After waiting 30 minutes (and it passed the store hours), there was still no update on my order, so I cancelled it and ordered from another place. The next morning, the restaurant charged me the full amount for the cancellation fee because the restaurant had already started preparing the food (but I ordered frozen dumplings and a bottle vinegar - there is no preparation). This is outrageous, and the restaurant is obviously lying. I ordered frozen dumplings and a bottle of vinegar, and no preparation was needed. In addition, I ve waited for 30 minutes and still no update from the restaurant. I can t wait forever. Uber Eat refused to refund me because I discovered this more than 48 hours after the order. I would never order from this place. Very frustrated.
Amazing food! Chicken in sweet and sour sauce was really good and dumplings with a chicken! Recommend
Seemed like mostly locals went here for the decent food and dumplings. The simple egg fried rice had that wok taste you look for and well seasoned. Dumplings were definitely a highlight. Prices and portions are quite good too. Definitely recommend the fried pork dumpling and steamed pork/shrimp dumplings.
Weve been going here for so many years and we usually end up mass ordering steamed dumplings as our go-to. No other place has matched the yumminess of dumplings here. Cash only so make sure to plan accordingly. Sometimes theres a long wait and its nice watching the food getting prepared at the front while in line. The owners are great.
The food here is decent and tasty. I do want to highlight their hygiene is awful and so is their service. Do NOT attempt to use the toilet, it is beyond disgusting and the restaurant should be ashamed for providing filthy restrooms for their customers to use ( again DO NOT USE!). Also, they do not have a place to change baby diapers which is another minus. I do hope a health inspector checks this place out. Perhaps it ll give them a serious wake up call!
This is exactly what I was looking for strolling through Torontos Chinatown for the first time. I will definitely be returning.
Great p ace with great dumplings! Cash only, but there is An ATM
Love their pan fried dumplings (pork & chives)!
Quite possibly the best Chinese dining experience available in Toronto. Been coming here for 10+Years! Havent been dissapointed, not once! Has always been an excellent experience, whether dining alone or with fanily & friends. We have always been impressed! Personal Favorites: Pork and Chinese Cabbage Dumplings General Tao Chicken Singnapore Noodles *To name a few.
18 dollars for 12 dumplings? 40 mins waiting time for one take out order at lunch time? Told us 10mins wait and ends up 40mins wait. Rude chef in the front told me therevare 40 orders in front of me? Why dont you tell me in advance? Poor service And they only take cash and charge hst with no receipt
Overpriced mediocre food. Onion pancake barely had onion flavor. Steamed pork and chives taste exactly like what I get for cheaper at other restaurants. Shanghai noodle was good but still overpriced for what it was. 3 normal items cost $43...
My parents and I had initially planned to eat elsewhere however as we were walking down Spadina we noticed this spot and decided to try it out. There was a pretty long wait and we were seated after 15-20 minutes. Im not sure why the ratings are so high as the food was mediocre and very heavy in salt and oil. To top it off the customer service was terrible. We had only been seated for 2 minutes before a staff member came and basically demanded that we order, I presume she was the manager. She did this twice after we had kindly asked for more time to look at the menu. Finally, a different waitress came to take our order once we were ready. The food came out quickly which was nice. However, just as we were leaving the manager from earlier demands that the tip is not substantive enough - we had tipped 15%! This is the first and last time we ever eat here again. I would rate this place 0 stars if I could.
We ate quite a few dumplings during our trip, but this was the best of all. I recommend eating there. Everything was excellent and at a great price.
This is the worst experience ever in Toronto. When we got into this restaurant, it is very stuffy, hot and DIRTY, but we saw many reviews saying they have the BEST dumpling, so we still stayed and tried. We have ordered several dishes, but I would like to highlight the dishes of Garlic Pork and Shrimp Dumpling. And we are TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED. A Garlic Pork worth $13.99, but it has only got 5 slices of pork and we could only taste the salty soy sauce. It is not fresh and too bad to eat. After a few minutes, dumplings came. The dumpling skin is so thick and the stuffing inside is just a little bit, but it worths $15.99, even with amount of 15. The experience here was the way TOO BAD. I dont know why there are reviews saying they have the best dumplings. Maybe it was? I dont know but I will never recommend to anyone.
Really great spot for fresh made-to-order dumplings!
The food was good, especially their pan-fried dumplings. Service was not too bad too. However, the restroom and the downstairs were foul and had a strong musty smell (my husband was shocked, almost abandoned all the food and just left after seeing their restroom). Also, the lantern lights had holes in them, and the sauce bottles looked like they hadn t been cleaned for years. Plus, there were so many boxes and piles of old yellowed newspapers lying at the customers eating area, which could also be a fire hazard. Overall, I think the restaurant could use a good renovation.
A lovely little restaurant, a breathtaking welcome, a charming place. In short, the complete opposite of what happens in these places. Greasy cutlery, greasy food, apart from dumplings, I do everything better myself, and I dont have a hotel management degree according to the latest news. Thanks to the boss who asks for tips, as if she were homeless and needed to buy a house. It would seem wise to improve the teams English in order to be able to communicate with customers. I highly recommend this place to people who want to have a good time. I do not recommend it even more for people with high cholesterol and hypertension, who want to live a little longer than until the next morning. Anyway, Ill give you a kiss, but I think Im sick.
The best Dumplings and delicious pasta.
Very delicious food but needs some clean up
Great
They serve normal dumplings that you can find anywhere in the area, there are even better places . The issue is , they accept cash only and take TAX without providing receipt and when you do the calculation they always add few dollars extra to your bill , for example if your bill is $29.99 + Tax it should be $33.88 but they hand you a bill showing $29.99 + Tax = $35.79 .. I think this is very dishonest way yo make extra money . I asked for the owner , i waited over 40 minutes to come and he did not show up . Not going back again for sure .
Looking for a hidden gem? Yes, this place certainly fits the title. They prepare fresh dumplings right before your eyes, and theyre as delightful as homemade ones. The flavors are outstanding, although they could use a bit less dough our last order had a bit too much dough and not enough filling. We had the pleasure of trying chicken, lamb, and beef dumplings, and all of them were truly delicious. We also ordered wonton soup, which turned out to be a yummy addition to our meal. Ill definitely consider getting it again, especially during the cold weather. All in all, this place offers a good dining experience.
It was my first time having dumplings and I liked it. We ordered steamed pork and chive and mix of 3 pan fried dumplings (chicken, beef, shrimp) and all of them were good. I liked pan fried dumplings more because the steamed one had ginger in it. Also, the price is pretty reasonable but they only accept cash.
Flies came before the long waited food. Cash only menu, $15 dumping came out as $18(u skip tax if cash only) I left over 15% tip and the owner wasn t happy with tips, almost EVERY other review mentions forced tipping scary
Food is excellent. Ambient is ok-ish. If you stay there too much you will smell like fried stuff and the washrooms cleanliness is questionable. Food is delish though
Good lamb, beef, and spinach and mushroom dumplings. Amazing vegetable noodles.
I have been coming here for the last 18 years my husband came for many years before he introduced me to it. I absolutely love this restaurant, the food is delicious and love the team that works there. We always buy dumplings for home too, as there are never any leftovers.
Lot of negatives: no debit. Cash only. Not licensed. No coke zero. No ice. Food was good.
Great dumplings, but not the cleanest for sure. They only take cash !!!
Very fresh and tasty hand made / home made dumplings. Cash only. Kid & Family friendly Food
The food is delicious, but the service is very very terrible and the place is very deteriorated.
Really delicious and fresh fried pork and chive dumplings! The filling was very flavourful and it s always great watching them fold the dumplings in the front. It was a little oily for me but still had great flavour! Also it s cash only here but there is an ATM.
I haven t been in person in forever sadly but I hope I can! I used to love going with my friends and family and the food is literally absolutely delicious. Very much recommend.
Quite disappointed with the overall! - quality of food is average. - price is quite pricey vs. Quality - only accepted cash. - service is not friendly/welcoming by the mature waiter. The first question I was asked do you have cash when I just entered the restaurant and make me felt very uncomfortable!! So these are the reasons that I love to share .
The worst dumpling place ever! Avoid at all cost! First the place stinks! The smell of the washroom is all around the place. And the restaurant owner SHOUTED at us to give a tip. And THREW a bowl or a plate to the floor! And told us bad words while shouting! I have never been so offended and threatened this way by anyone. the service is TOO SLOW! the tables are awfully DIRTY and STICKY, so dont know why they BEG for a tip! No star for this place. The worst ever in my whole life!
The accept CASH ONLY and ROUND UP for you without giving you change! And FORCE you for a tip. Forced tipping while you just get cash is just not right! Never go there again. Would tell anyone not to go either!
While it isnt much to look at, the dumplings are fantastic. Prices have gone up, but its still a great value Vegetarian options: There are a limited number of properly vegetarian choices... But the spinach and mushroom dumplings are terrific
pan fried dumplings and shanghai noodles were the winners. seriously delicious.
Bring exact change and expect doughy dumplings (also each dumpling literally has ONE) shrimp lol and a bunch of cheap filler saturated in vinegar. Also the previous reviews were correct the manager are scam artists and won t give you the correct change they will keep it for themselves. Don t come here unless you like doughy cheap dumplings and you have exact change. If you have to order anything just order the pan fried dumplings because the deep fried grease and soy sauce will mask the taste of the vinegar/aged dough. Also I suspect there s s lot of fake reviews posted here because the review in dough to filler ratio being perfect is Epic nonsense..
It may not be canonically the first, but it was *my* first for the Spadina/Dundas dumpling shop thing: a place offering an assortment of jaozi, with various fillings, boiled or pan-fried, with dumplings being made fresh in the window by grandmas. There are other offerings on the menu, and theyre even good, but youre here for the dumplings, who are you trying to kid? Its a great sharing/hang-out meal, a fantastic way to spend the afternoon with friends or family. The dumplings are great in either format (boiled or pan-fried potsticker style). I loved it when it was a dingy diner, and I still love it, even after the (unnecessary) facelift and decoration. They even sell fresh-frozen dumplings for you to prepare at home (boiling is an easy win, but if you dare to go potsticker, I recommend using a nonstick pan and giving the dumplings themselves a little oil before popping them on the pan... That, and a quick finishing of toasted sesame oil just before you carefully remove them). One of my favorite joints in the city, well worth a visit.
Not bad
Dumpling is Fresh and tasty Food : 5/5
I have been here twice - there is some inconsistency as I ordered the same thing but it tasted quite different both times (the beef dumplings were more soupy and less doughey the first time). Nevertheless still really good! They take cash only.
Cash only. Its 2023!! Ridiculous
Love the food here! The pork and chive dumplings are my favourite! The mushroom dumplings are a great veg option. Don t forget the scallion pancakes! They only take cash - atm inside. One of my favourite dumpling places. Food : 5/5
They take cash only. No debit//credit cards.
