1180 Bloor St W, Toronto, ON M6H 1N1, Canada
We had tried Ethiopian food before and we loved it so we decided to try Eritrean food this time. I loved the lamb tibs especially with hot flavour which isn’t very hot for us Asians. The awaze was good too. The service was excellent. A very sweet family run place.
Continuing my exploration on Bloor Street west of Dufferin (Bloordale Village), I was happy to find the African Delight Cafe and Restaurant. I love Ethiopian and Eritrean food. The picture of the lamb tibs on the window looked very inviting, so I went in. The staff was initially very friendly, and I asked permission to photograph the nice decor of the restaurant - which was granted on condition that no people were in the photos. I agreed and photographed the decor while no one was around (per the photos included below). When the food arrived, I started to photograph the lamb tibs only. Unfortunately, one of the staff felt it necessary to become hostile. I was yelled at once, and then within a few seconds the one staff member decided to yell at me again: "I said no people in the photos!" There were no people sitting on, or around, my dish of lamb tibs. I don’t understand why did this happen at all, and what changed between the first and second times I got yelled at? I didn't have time to even dip my hand in the food. The lamb tibs were good. This is a good restaurant with good food. I would like to return - with my camera locked in a box - if necessary.
Enjoyed the LAMB TIBS and QUANTA with INJERA and SALAD very much. The food was absolutely delicious, flavourful and fresh! Will definitely come back again.
Absolutely delicious Ethiopian food! Very flavorful dishes! Tender meat and unique offerings. Service was quite friendly, though a little slow. I have been to a number of Ethiopian restaurants, this one was by far the best. Will definitely return.
Delicious food!!! Hidden gem in Toronto. It’s the first time I try African food and I loved it! The taste is really good, the way to eat is a new experience. It’s a local restaurant and you can learn from the staff, who are also really friendly. The prices are affordable. Definitely a must if you come to Toronto!
Had the pleasure of visiting this authentic Ethiopian restaurant last night! It’s like a hidden gem! A lot of options to choose from! I absolutely enjoyed their food! As good as it looked, it tasted equally good! Must try their veg & non veg platters, fish Tilapia, okra w meat , lamb and authentic ethiopian coffee.
What a great spot for amazing Eritrean food. They have such a great variety of vegetable dishes and meat dishes. My favourite was the lamb. And the beef and okra The injera is also amazing and is perfect with every dish. Make sure you check them out
THIS IS AN AUTHENTIC ERITREAN RESTAURANT AND IT IS NOT ETHIOPIAN RESTAURANT. PERIOD! The delicious foods and the traditional coffee are pure Eritrean. You can name other restaurants as Eritrean and Ethiopia restaurant loosely but not this restaurant. This restaurant is the pride of Eritreans here in Toronto. This restaurant is the only restaurant in Toronto that serves all kind of foods that are typical Eritrean foods. Meaning they have food from the higher and lower lands of Eritrea. Most Eritrean restaurants if not all in diaspora serve foods that are only typical in higher lands of Eritrea or only typical in lower lands of Eritrea but not both. Africa Delight does both. I just wanted to make this clear. No political gesture is intended with my comments. Of course our Ethiopians friends are more than welcome to any Eritrean restaurants like we Eritreans are welcome to any Ethiopian restaurants. I just wanted to make clear that this is NOT Ethiopian restaurant. It is Eritrean. Next time you want to go to this awesome restaurant please say you are going to Eritrean restaurant. Thanks you for readying my long comment 😁 On the pix, these are what we had today and we destroyed them. Satisfaction was attained!!
Highly recommend if you are looking for East African food very filling and delicious and great of large group and the family that runs this restaurant are kind
Would rate no stars if that was possible. Please do not ever try this place unless you re dying out of hunger and you have no where else to go! Their food and service were equally horrible. We ordered three of their mains and the food was bland, lacked seasoning and was extremely dry. The rice was basically tasteless. They took way too long to serve in spite of us being the ONLY customers there. Once we were done eating we rang the bell multiple times to call for the bill, the waitress didn t respond at all, and one of us had to go to the front desk and ask her for the bill. Finally, when we were paying the bill, the POS machine failed to read almost all of our cards even after trying out with multiple cards, several times. Due to all the inconveniences, one of us had to pay with cash.
The best
Home away from home
They charged me for the order that was cancelled right away.
Great food. I ate tilapia with rice. The portion was big and was well deep fried
Very friendly and helpful
Great place, clean and hygienic and nice staff.
Avoid. Unacceptable customer service. Ordered for 4 via Skip the Dishes. Restaurant failed to send the meal I ordered and refused to acknowledge their error. The messed up order they sent was useless to me, but Skip charged me for it and they got paid anyway.
Such a hidden gem. Food is great quality and made with love
One of the best African restaurant that I tried it in toronto
Delicious veggie platter A lot of variety and flavours
I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant with my fellow food bloggers. We received hospitable service and the food was delicious. It was our first time trying Ethiopian food and we enjoyed every bite. Highly recommend the vegetarian platter and the milk tea.
We have been to this restaurant thrice and that speaks for itself, the food is amazing, the service is good and the owners are so nice too. Highly recommend this place.
Loved the Ethiopian food experience here! The food tasted amazing and it s definitely worth a try! They have halal food, veg and non veg options!
A true hidden gem. The food is absolutely delicious. It was our first time trying African cuisine and to our surprise, they had plenty of vegetarian options along with a meat variety. The service is very warm and welcoming. Highly recommend.
Been here 10yrs ago. And back after a long time. Food is still amazing! Will come back again.
This was my first time trying African cuisine, and I loved it. Will definitely be coming back more often now.
It was my first time trying this cuisine and all I can say this is very soulful food. I was so impressed with all the dishes served here it was just like eating your comfort food. I loved the okra and meat dish I highly recommend it, if you are vegetarian they do have lot of veg option I tried there vegetarian platter and the amount of varieties you get in that is crazy. I would say each dishes I tried were just amazing and delicious.
This restaurant serves up authentic Ethiopian food. The menu has pictures so it s easy to see what you re getting exactly. Everything served is pipping hot and delicious. They can host large groups too. All the food has lots of colour.
Finally got a place where they serve halal african food, and loved their anjera (it was more like the Indian dosa ) .. going back to this place for more items
Best Ethiopian restaurant ever. Very kind staff and the greatest food, very underrated. You will not be disappointed! My go to!
Come on, yes
We went at 12:00 and it s close. You have to update on Google that you are close for Ramadan.
I ve lived in the area for years and never tried this place. I decided to try it and let me tell you this place is fantastic!!! I ordered the African platter because I just wanted to try a bit of everything. I told them I didn t want the dullet though cause I m not a fan of liver so they just gave me a bit extra of everything else. The food was phenomenal!!! It was so flavourful!!! Even my picky 7 year old tried everything and liked it. Definitely going back!!! It s definitely one of my top places for delicious food. And the prices are great!!!
I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. The injera was quite tasty. The dishes, especially the fried fish could have used some salt. Other than that theres no complaint with any of the food we tried. It was a bit of a wait for the food to arrive, but that wasnt really a problem. The wait was worth it.
My order never arrived ??
Love it
I cant tell you about the food because we waited 15 minutes and no one came to take our other. This was on Monday at 7PM and unfortunately there is always people smoking cigarettes so be ready for the blue cloud of second hand smoke on your way in.
The Tilapia was the best fish I ever had
Eritrean cafe
Great food. Great portions! I love the Veggie Platter. High recommend
Excellent service
homey spot, warm service
First time ordering from here - amazing vegetarian food and kind service.
Nice and friendly, quick service. Great pricing. Always smells so good inside
Very tasty and affordable at the same time. I wasn t very familiar with the Ethiopian cuisine, but I loved it so much after trying for the first time. Will definitely come back!
Amazing veggie platter - sooooooo good!!!
Lamb tibs were well cooked and tender. Only moderately spicy but with lots of flavour. Unexpectedly but pleasantly, the seating and decor reminded me of a diner. Hidden gem.
Food is delicious and serves is awesome
Food was 10/10. Needs some love in the dinning room, but food wise hmmm yumyum
African delighted cafe specialises Eritrean food. The price is reasonable, food waiting time is longer.
Very authentic Horn African cuisine I love this place very polite owners and waiters food is very traditional and cooked very well the blend of spices they use in the food is on point very good restaurant been going her for years
Immaculate
Food was new to me so cant really compare it. Meat dishes were spicy and delicious. Vegetarian options were available, a little bland. Order by tablet only. Clean decor.
The food is ok but could have been better. The service was good. The atmosphere is a bit dull.
My first time having African food, the rice was really delicious, dont remember the name in particular . Definitely giving a 5star
Awesome Horn of Africa cuisine.
Delicious food and large portions! I ordered takeout so I can t comment on the restaurant and service.
The food was great and service amazing. Will be coming back.
Wonderful experience and food. They were very sensitive to my wifes tomato allergy. Cant wait to come back!
Food is absolutely delicious. Service is kind but a bit slow as it s just one lady manning the whole restaurant. Patience is worth the portion and taste! Give it a try.
Great food, fresh and tasty. I absolutely recommend
Literally my favourite delivery in the neighbourhood. I love this place. I always leave some of the lamb tibs back and have it in the morning with a fried egg on an it. Everyone be should order from here.
I keep the fried fish fresh in this restaurant
My go-to takeout space near home! Addicted to the veggie platter.. always filling and such incredible service and friendliness :)
Delicious. This restaurant gave me a new experience I have never been through before. The seats are comfortable, there is a family room, there are buttons to call the waiters to your table without needing to catch their attention by yelling at them or anything of that sort. The food is unique, I am a fan of the whole DIY aspect you get. You get tons of the special bread and you basically order the toppings and put it on the bread yourself. Overall African Delight definitely lives up to it s name. It is indeed delightful, and something everyone should try out at one point or another.
Great spot to have real authentic african delicious meal. Love it....
Its good & clean restaurant
Food is number one in Toronto A bit slow service which made me reduce stars
Great restaurant
Delicious habash food
Being East African myself I can say that this is the BEST authentic East African food I ve had. The group of friends I went with were in agreement. The quality, the service, and the overall atmosphere most definitely impressed. I ll make sure to go back many more times in the future!
Shared a wonderful vegetarian planner and okra dish with few friend.. The food was delicious..great prrices and service
Just so tasty reasonable prices free parking after 0900 pm
Great food!!
If you are looking for a good Ethiopian ful, then this place hits the mark. Its a great go-to vegetarian take-out option. I always opt for take-out as I find the seating layout uncomforable in design. The bright lights and general absence of female diners has also been a turn-off, but the staff is really nice and the gaggle of smoking men at the door has always given this place a certain je ne sais quoi.
Great food, must try the liver!
Super food and awesome service
A quiet place in the bloordale area. A must visit for Ethiopian cuisines. The food is absolutely delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. We tried the lamb tibs with injara and quanta (sun dried beef curry) with rice. The food was hot and fresh. Definitely going back for more.
I visit this restaurant they provide healthy delicious and good foods
I love eating here
Great Place
Incredibly tasty food, nice and polite waitress. The portions are much larger than we imagined. My mom came here alone one day and loved it so much so that she brought my grandma and I along the other day. We ordered the chicken stew on a hotplate and beef stew with anjera or Ethiopian flatbread. The food was so good. It was spicy but edible for the 3 of us and we even had plenty of leftover... we tried to tell the waitress that 1 order was enough for 3 people but she didnt think so, thus the beef stew was added. In conclusion, 1 order is deff enough for 3 ladies. Start with 1 then order seconds if you are a small group. More so than the chicken stew with eggs, I loved the beef stew a lot more. Surprisingly they both have completely different flavours. Complete opposites. My grandma and mom prefered the chicken hotpot stew. All in all, a very memorable meal. Will absolutely plan to return.
I came here with my boyfriend who hasnt been to Ethiopian restaurant yet. From the moment we came in the sweet lady chuckled to us. Btw forgot to say we came in ten minute before they were about to close, after we put our order in, I realized that they were closing at 11: Oclock. I offered to take my food with me instead of making them stay extra minutes but they insist that we eat our two plates that we order. Overall, the food was good too.
The veggie meal was good. Big enough for the of us.
Ethiopian breakfast is S-tier breakfast food, apparently. Obviously they also have dinner but man, that breakfast. The traditional coffee (jebena) is one of my favourite treats to myself in the area, grab one and relax after you eat. Service is friendly but not the usual Canadian style, for those who arent familiar just hit the button on the wall in the booth you sit in.
Super authentic Ethiopian food. We didnt know much about what to order and the staff were very helpful.
I drink coffee I contacted with peoples enjoying iam teacher church catholic
Amazing Ethiopian food
The best Ethiopian restaurant compared to those on the Danforth or Bloor. Open for breakfast. I haven t been disappointed .
Its sweet and has good dishes
I have eaten here five times now and it was always a great experience. Delicious food and so much respect from the other patrons. I have most enjoyed the lamb with molokheya (spinach-like vegetable) but everything I have had is great. Restaurant looks unexciting but the food is ALL. Service was also excellent.
Good food .
Great food, nice atmosphere friendly people
Super tasty injera! And very friendly condition! Rarely eaten more delicious. We will definitely come back and regularly!!!!
Eritrean, Ethiopian, Sudanese food. nice place try new food with your friend.
Very good service and place. Of course the introduced food is delicious too.
Really very nice food I had tested in Toronto ( ).
HOLY CRAB THIS PLACE IS AMAZING!!! I was just visiting the city from the states, and while my friends and I were walking on bloor st we saw this hidden gem. We decided to give African food a try for the first time and let me tell you! It is SOOOOO AMAZING! The serving size is huge and the food is on point! And I absolutely love the way they serve it. Very family like and everyone can share it with each other. 5/5 you should try it if you get a chance
The staff very good ...food delicious and sumptuous...l woukd go back again and again
The food is just perfect
Very cute places for Ethiopian and east African food. Location is great and street view is charming. Meal size is quiet large, so can order and share for two easily. Lots of ethnic and local crowd. Very close to subway and staffs are very friendly. Clean environment and close to subway and shopping malls. Dont miss big fish meal and specially tea.
People this a good rest with taste fresh food but wait time is pretty bad easy wait 30mins for my order at times hope that changes
Good food and friendly environment.
Delicious!
So good!!!
I love this place, nice food and great service
Looks good!
The best vegetarian food you could ever ask for. Ask for Fol (thats the name of the order) its just delicious
First of all, this is could be a new experience for most people since the restaurants customers are mostly Ethiopians. So it should be called Ethiopian restaurant. Everything is good; rice was very delicious. We ordered Lamb CHACHA and Tips and both were really good. We also ordered Molokhiya and it was not bad but it could be better. Overall, this restaurant is among the best restaurants Ive been to in the GTA.
Best African food and Coffee in downtown
These people are so humble and the food is absolutely delicious. I hope that this business thrives and gets the recognition it deserves. Where they dont pay to make their restaurant look flashy and upscale, they allot that money towards the quality of the food youre getting; VERY FEW businesses do that, so please support this hidden gem.
You should definitely give the food in this place a try. Ethiopian dish at its finest
Hygiene and delicious
Delicious!
yumm
Vegetarian platter is one of the most tasty dishes Ive ever had!!
Full joy some food. On Sunday morning even the customers were amazing........ One minus Moore moore shot sauce they gottah work on that all things consider I would return again and again and again.,....
Definitely a locals place! All day Ethiopian (?) breakfast, which is cheap but super delicious. Actually everything here is cheap, very filling, and tasty. Youre served pretty quickly too!
Authentic African dishes, excellent service.
