Minimalist space offering creative Ethiopian fare, lots of vegetarian options & classic cocktails.
My wife and I loved our dinner and drinks. We ordered the Tej cocktail, the best smoked drink I've ever tried! We also had the bulgur salad and the misto vegan and meat platters, all delicious. The restaurant had a nice chill vibe for a romantic dinner out, everything was class
I’ve been coming to Nunu for 10 years and it’s by far the best Ethiopian food in the city. The flavours have so much depth and it’s always served with the perfect spongy ingera bread to soak it all up. I recently also did an ingera class (Ethiopian bread) with a few friends to celebrate my birthday. Not only did Nunu bring us through each step of the process, she also allowed us to make the bread ourselves and bring it home. Her love to cook and nourish others is so apparent while she teaches it bleeds into her lesson. Chris, her partner, then gave us a class on Ethiopian coffee showing us how its roasted, brewed, and served. He is very knowledgeable about coffee and what makes Ethiopian coffee so unique. The class ended with a small shared meal and warm cup of coffee that was just made. We had so much fun and felt more connected to our neighbourhood! Highly recommend!
Food is excellent. Coffee ceremony is fun. And the atmosphere is so pretty. Even the lighting seems like a work of art. Great date night location. Hidden gem.
If you are looking for a special place to share with yourself, with family or friends - Nunu Ethiopian Fusion cuisine sets the mood. On my first visit to Nunu, I settled by the window to enjoy a traditional Jebena (ጀበና) coffee. I was treated to the sights, sounds and aromas of pan roasting coffee beans directly in front of me. This would later transform into the liquid elixir known as Jebena coffee. The traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony truly engages all the senses: the sight and sound of the roasting beans clanking against the metal pan, the smell of the roasting beans wafting heavenward, and touch - as one waves the steam over to the face to more fully appreciate its heat and aroma. Once the roasting was accomplished, the beans were then taken to the back to be ground and brewed. The Jebena coffee showed the strength of an Italian espresso, with a softer, more rounded edge or finish to it. The Ethiopian Jebena coffee is fully full-bodied but without the brazen kick of an espresso - the Jebena coffee showing more refinement and restraint of character. Visually, as this was my first time partaking of Jebena coffee, I was amazed by the sight of the incense dancing in every direction (accompanying the coffee). Together with the very friendly service, stylish decor, dim lights, and African trance music in the background, it seemed like I was transported to another world. On my second visit to Nunu, I ordered the Beef Couscous (unfortunately, they were out of the Lamb Couscous). It was the best couscous I have tasted to-date: light, fluffy, and flavourful. Really, really good. On the third visit, my dear friend and I enjoyed a Vegetarian Platter which was more than ample for two. The place was packed on a Friday evening. The atmosphere was hopping, lively, and conducive to allow for all manner of conversation. It was the perfect place to spend a most engaging evening. Thank you Nunu Ethiopian Fusion.
Food was really delicious and fresh! Great culinary experience. The only thing would like different is if was better lit so I could get a better visual of the food given the obvious effort put into every dish!. Great custom dark beer too. We just asked the chef to feed us a great variety. Even got her cook book !
I walked in on a Friday without any expectation. The atmosphere was quiet and with very few people. I felt like this could be a great spot for a single or a date. I ordered the Moroccan peaches dessert (about $12), and I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed them. For the location, I think the price is fair, and I believe tip is included.
My friend Elaine and I just had the most amazing experience here. The owners took great pride in the atmosphere and the experience as a patron. The service was impeccable and everything was so clean. I haven’t been in Toronto in over a year and coming back and experiencing this space was a beautiful experience. Ethiopian culture is beautiful. Thank you to the family… you know who you are. 🙏🏾 Thank you.
We dined at Nunu yesterday evening, and it was an absolute delight from start to finish! The ambiance was inviting, and service was so lovely. Now, let's talk about the food - both the meat and vegan tasting plates were absolutely phenomenal! Each dish was bursting with flavor and creativity. Whether you're a meat lover or a vegan enthusiast, there's something for everyone here. The attention to detail in the presentation and the quality of ingredients truly sets Nunu apart. And of course the cocktails! They were expertly crafted and incredibly delicious. Each sip was a perfect balance of flavors, and they complemented our meal beautifully.
Man, where to begin. The atmosphere was delightful the dimly light restaurant has such a cozy, relaxed vibe. The food is fresh and the flavors are deep and stick around to play. I was impressed with every bite, the doro wat was to die for. The spicy with nuanced flavor was a gift that kept on giving....
I had dinner here last night and, same as every other visit, I left very full and very happy. The vegan platter is delicious and evolves seasonally, the drinks are perfect and a reasonable price, the people who work here are fantastic, what is not to like. Vegetarian options: There is a whole vegan section in the menu! I recommend the misto to try a variety.
Having had Ethiopian food in several countries, I can tell you that this place is frying their food in too much oil. In my experience, Ethiopian dishes are cooked slowly, mostly using boiling. Even so, they did not drain the oil out of the dishes properly. Unfortunate coz the location is pretty good!
If I could give zero I would. Saw a Roach. Over priced and smells.
Terrible wouldn t recommend
I am their long time customer, the food and the service is so nice Vegetarian options: The test is so nice and healthy Food : 5/5 |
This is easily my favourite spot. I have been going to NUNU for 15 years and have never once had anything less than a perfect dinner. Im sure that by now I have had everything on the menu ... its all great, though my favourites are the kitfo and kai wot. But as perfect as the food is, and the charming style of the restaurant ... the owner, Nunu, is a reason to go as well. Shes always warm and welcoming and makes sure that you feel taken care of. Anyone I have ever taken with me says the same! Couldnt recommend this place highly enough.
Incredible food, incredible ambiance. Highly recommend (if two ppl) doing the Misto Meat and the Misto Vegetarian on a single platter to get a taste of everything this place has to offer!
Decent all around worth a visit authentic experience kinda pricey
This is the best Ethiopian food in Toronto. So fresh, colourful, flavourful, and delicious. Nunu and Chris are wonderful human beings. The Tej cocktail (and mocktail equivalent) is a sensory experience. Like summer vacation and Christmas with a fancy presentation.
Great food! Chill music playing in the background sets a nice ambiance. Good service.
Amazing vegan food!
I cannot believe the portion size, while being absolutely delicious. Dietary restrictions: Vegan Food : 5/5 |
My first experience with Ethiopian food - and it wont be my last! The food was delicious, service friendly and attentive but not hovering. The vegan misto was a mix of different dishes, all delicious flavours. I look forward to going back to Nunu again!
A hidden gem in the city
Delicious food, fun atmosphere and incredible service! HAve lived this since it was Adis Ababa!!
Not worth the price. Extremely pricey for the quality and quantity of the food. Do not recommend!
Went here on a weekend. We were the only customers and they still messed up our order. This restaurant is NOT VEGAN FRIENDLY. We were served our chicken order with a vegetarian order on the same plate WITHOUT BEING TOLD. The customer service was poor and they back-answered when we asked them to itemise our bill.
The restaurant staff is not mindful of vegan/vegetarian food habits. We were served beef in the same platter that our vegan friend s food was in. They didn t even tell us. The server argued with us when we clarified the mistake and told us that it wasn t their fault we didn t tell them to serve the non vegetarian food separately. Ridiculous! Never going back here. Such an awful experience.
I love this restaurant. Been eating at NuNu s for well over a decade.
**Exceptional Dining Experience at Nunu Restaurant** I recently dined at Nunu Restaurant, and I must say, it was an absolute delight from start to finish. From the moment I stepped through the doors, I was greeted by an incredibly friendly and courteous owner and staff. Their warm welcome instantly set the tone for what turned out to be a memorable dining experience. The ambiance of Nunu Restaurant is unmatched, and a large part of that is due to the incredible incense they burn throughout the establishment. The aroma wafting through the air was simply mesmerizing, creating an atmosphere that was both inviting and relaxing. Aside from the wonderful atmosphere, the food at Nunu Restaurant was exquisite. Every dish was prepared with utmost care and attention to detail, resulting in flavors that were nothing short of extraordinary. From appetizers to desserts, each bite was a culinary delight. What truly sets Nunu Restaurant apart, however, is the genuine hospitality of the owner and staff. Their dedication to providing top-notch service and ensuring that every guest feels welcomed and appreciated is truly commendable. Overall, my experience at Nunu Restaurant exceeded all expectations. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to anyone looking for a dining experience that is not only delicious but also infused with warmth and hospitality. Five stars all around!
Hands down the best Ethiopian spot Ive tried in the city, and great service too. High quality food that tastes amazing is hard to come by these days.
Full disclosure: this is the only Ethiopian place I ve eaten at. The food is so so so so good. It s so fresh and the flavours just pop. Food : 5/5
Omg food, ambience, service all excellent. Will return!
Had dinner here tonight with my partner and an old friend. It was the first time eating here after living in the neighbourhood almost a decade. I had been in for coffee a few times before the renovation but had never tried the food. It was fantastic! We had the Meat Misto and Vegetarian (Vegan) Misto. Both were well portioned and perfect for sharing with family and friends. Try the Tej Cocktail, its to DIE for (even as a mocktail)! The staff are SUPER kind and friendly and the atmosphere is really warm and cozy. Great place for a date as its not at all boisterous and is very conducive to having great conversation! Looking forward to our next visit!
Overpriced, literally bite sized/nibble portions for a cuisine platter that is supposedly packed with flavour and authentic recipes that need to be enjoyed fully. Decent taste, not too fresh, definitely overhyped and not even close to other Ethiopian food in taste and quality in Toronto. Also owner stands right in front of you table side with autotip on, adding pressure to tip. Its super embarrassing so please dont. Heating was turned up way too high and we were uncomfortable.
This is my favourite Ethiopian restaurant in Toronto. I LOVE the vegan misto. The atmosphere is amazing too and the staff is very friendly. You should try it!
Delicious modern Ethiopian food, and the staff are lovely.
Was there last night. Was charged at least $30 more than prices on website menu, food was ok but not as good as I remember from my first visit years ago. Then it seems we were also double billed taxes after requesting the bill be split 3 ways (seems split with taxes in, than she added tax again after the split?). Should have asked for the itemized receipt - beware. Service not great, had to ask for more injera and it was empty for a while (I needed gluten free), never checked if we wanted to order more to drink or dessert. They did refill our water when the pitcher was low.
Food, atmosphere and experience was 10/10. However I did find the prices a bit exorbitant. I understand bills need to be paid but paying $48 for the two Misto Vegans (pictured) hurt the wallet a bit. But no regrets supporting a welcoming and lovely establishment! Only wish they did meal prep as well so I could have this meal everyday.
Delicious meal, from the dip, tartare to the veg and meat misto platters!
Got a lovely vegetarian platter, everything was absolutely and utterly delicious. Great atmosphere too!! Vegetarian options: Very tasty
Not worth it.
Excellent food! Delicious, comforting cozy atmosphere.
Nunu is amazing - the food is incredible and the tej cocktail is a must-have. This is my favorite spot in Toronto!!
I sat at the bar. Great music and lighting. Attentive service. The tedj cocktail got better as I drank it down. The smoke came through all the way to the bottom. They also make a pleasant negroni.
Great personality of the servers. Food was excellent - even if it lucks perfection it is the highest quality of food you will get from any Ethiopian restaurant in Canada. Honest and ample information about the products and their service. we went with a group and the treatment was amazing. Definitely will go there more. And for sure I will have the Tej I was privileged to test and enjoy.
We had a great Ethiopian ambiance with great food & drink.Definitely we will go their often.
My wife and I love Nunu as did every person weve brought there with us. Fantastic food, great atmosphere.
I had dinner with my family at Nunu s and found the restaurant to be very dark and the music a little loud. The service was a little slow and the menu had changed since my last visit 4 years ago. There were less choices and the portion size of the meat(misto meat) and vegetable(misto vegan) were very small for the price. At the end of our meal, we had the Traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony as I had experienced 4 years ago. However, I was completely shocked when I got the bill and the coffee was $64.00. It was not listed on the menu at all. I definitely did not pay that much 4 years ago! After returning home, I googled other Ethiopian restaurants in Toronto with the same coffee ceremony and found the price to be no more than $20. I will definitely not be returning or recommend this restaurant to others.
Two measly portioned meat platters and a drink for $80+, never again !
I have been a customer of Nunu for years, and it never disappoints. The couple who run this restaurant are generous and kind. The food always hits the mark and the cocktails are outstanding. I am so grateful they made it through the pandemic. If you have a craving for outstanding Ethiopian food, this is your spot.
Lovely knowledgeable staff, incredible food, cocktails you won t find elsewhere
Very expensive for what you get. Food was ok but not worth the price. Service was slow.
love the taste and the kitchen landscape
Excellent food, friendly staff, very nice atmosphere and wonderful cocktails! Weve been there twice and loved it each time. Highly recommended!
Possibly the best Ethiopian food I have ever had - and I have been to Ethiopia as well as a few Ethiopian restaurants in DC, NYC and LA. We had the meat and veggie platter, everything was incredibly delicious even the salad; spices are addictive; injera is the perfect texture and sourness; generous portion. Everyone at the restaurant is so friendly too. The signature cocktail is also delicious. Photos do not do it justice. Already planning to go back!
Amazing food just wish they were open earlier.!!! my suggestion order both vege and meat platter and u wont go wrong try both and it s both delicious
Excellent food and friendly service, a pleasure to dine in.
Really good food and drinks.
love this ethiopian restaurant! so tasty, priced well, and even has a bar. the atmosphere was rlly nice i love how they dim the lights at night. my sisters and i got so much food and was satisfied at the end. always so pleased with how ethiopian cuisine has such a great vegan/vegetarian food variety which tastes so good btw. would definitely come again
The veggie platter had so many options and everything was really tasty. Their house special Tej cocktail is a must-try!
Food, service - everything was so good! Authentic and down to earth, nice staple on Queen West. We will be back again soon.
Brilliant vegetarian brunch here with Nunus special shakshuka (vegan options available too). Best Ethiopian restaurant in Toronto!
The food and service was amazing. First time having Ethiopian food and was very impressed. Everyone was very friendly. Overall, great time.
We came here on a weekday at 7 . We didnt have a reservation and it was easy to get a table on the patio . We ordered Misto Meat , barbecue chicken with bulgar salad and Moroccan pear for dessert . Everything tasted great . Id definitely come again !
Perfect food!! Im a vegetarian with a liking for vegan food - loved everything I ate!! Salads, potatoes and beet root, legumes mash, and much more. Fantastic!!
I have so much love for Nunus!!! Such delicious home cooked and unique foods. Every time I make it to Toronto this is one of my must go places.
The patio was great! Made resos for a party of 7 on a Saturday night. The location is great and the food was good!
Great food but portion sizes are way too modest compared to other places.
Wants to charge an extra 2-3% of you bill for using credit card. This is ubsurb especially when this is already included in the prices of the food. Not only will you lose sales but youre gonna lose customers over pennies.
Bewear they are planning on charging for Visa card usage for already over priced food on small portions.
Greedy c*n*s who double dip on cc fee. Will not be coming back.
It is amaizing... you have to try it!
Such flavourful food ! I do not have experience with Ethiopian cuisine, but the Misto Vegan and Misto Meat platter my family shared for dinner were amazing. The Kitfo (Beef Tartare) we shared shared as an appetizer was full of flavour and a bit zippy as well ... So good. And then the Pear dessert was just the right finishing touch. And I have seldom had more gracious hosts at any establishment. This is a place to which I will return.
This is my favourite Ethiopian place in Toronto. The flavours are top notch, fresh spices, a slightly modern take on the traditional style of shared plates. They often have gluten free Injera as well. Nunu, you re the best! xo
Great experience and food! Lovely place!
Great service and tasty food. Definitely worth the visit
I have much Ethiopian family and lived with my grandmother in Ethiopia for years. No disrespect to the many hard working chefs/restaurants/cooks out there but, not many deliver the depth that is true Ethiopian food. Nunus food is amazing and Nunu herself is an ANGEL. You can taste all her love in every bite. And what a blessing that love is. Love you forever, Nunu.
The food is really good, but it s a bit overpriced for the portions they serve.
I just had the misto vegan with the gluten free ingera. It was SO delicious! Definitely the most flavorful vegan food I ve had in Toronto. I ve had Ethiopian food before, but not like this! Every dish has its own unique flavor and it was all properly seasoned. The injera was light and fluffy and served as the perfect compliment for the expertly made food. I will definitely be back!
Okay - everywhere I have moved, I find the Ethiopian food. LA, New York, London - this is the best food period Ive had ever! Its beautiful! So fresh and just delicious! This spot is a hidden gem!
Great food, but small portions for the price. They charge $5 extra if you ask for a little more injira. I also don t think they make the injira in house, I saw plastic bag of it in the kitchen, indicating it s the same stuff you buy from the grocery store.
Main dishes had flavor though over-priced. I wasnt asked to order but was presented with water. I just sat at the table, waiting. My dinner guest wasnt there but I was ordering for us both and wanted a drink to start. I was asked to pay extra for gravy, eggplant dip was tasteless, bread was burnt and bartender had black dirt under his fingernails when handing over my drink. My friend got to see his nails and opted for a beer in its bottle. The bartender was also killing a lot of time on his phone in the front of the business. Bathroom had no tissue in one stall and in the other, water sprays/mists on you as it flushes. I had on a skirt so that wasnt a highlight.
I went with my friends and ordered Ethiopian BBQ Chicken w Salad. It comes on the menu with a side of bulgar salad. I asked specifically if I can have the chicken with an Insalata Nunu salad INSTEAD of the bulgar salad. The waitress said yes and I received four pieces of chicken and some green leaves. When the bill came I was charged for two dishes instead of one: the chicken and the salad. It came up to 41$ which is extremely overpriced given that the original dish is priced 18$ on the menu and the portions are small. There are other great and cheaper Ethiopian places in town. I really feel that I was ripped off
Went here with my Fiancee in September 2021. The service was incredible from the start, ordered mixed meat and vegetable plate, two drinks each. Absolutely fair price for the area and the food was amazing as well. They serve an excellent take on a bloody mary/caesar drink which was surprisingly hard to find in the area. 5/5.
Ambience and food is excellent! The owner kept checking on us to see if we liked the food and if we need anything else. When we finished our meal she asked what we were doing after, and I said its my husbands birthday so before we left she surprised us with a complimentary creme brulee with a candle! That was also very delicious and very sweet of her! Place is beautiful, food and drinks are great, staff is extremely friendly -highly recommended!
Great food, but I would expect more for the price.
Seriously great food and an all around great vibe. Definitely an under-appreciated spot.
Delicious food, made with love! This was my first time eating Ethiopian cuisine, and it sure won t be my last. Cosy atmosphere and super friendly staff!
Great place. Always the same staff who are great. Ask for some of their hot sauce!!
I rarely write reviews for anything but, this was a special occasion. I ordered the Kitfo and ever since I got to Toronto, I have been unable to find ONE restaurant that does it justice. Finely diced and so well spiced, it was divine! Reminds me so much of being back home. It is authentic to the culture I love. I want more Ethiopians to come here and enjoy this because the chef is just amazing!!!
Great food. Great price. Great service.
Had the eggplant dish with some crispy naan, then the misto meat... Excellent!
Wonderful food and cocktails with charming and friendly staff. Best Ethiopian restaurant for sure!
Just wow. Perhaps the best shikabob ever had. Medium spice, local style rice with veggies and salad. Aces. Highly recommended !!
They didnt take reservations and said onky theyre patio was open. We arrived at 5, the time they said they opened, to grab a seat. They werent open, despite the sign on the window saying they were open. At 5:45 we left as they were still not open. This change of opening time wasnt mentioned on their website or their phone message when I called them. Very dissapointed.
The vegetarian platter is one of the most delicious things I have ever tasted.
Amazing Ethiopian food. The best I have had anywhere in the world. Really authentic. This is a superb place to take groups and friends as it it the perfect food and atmosphere to share.
DE-LISHHHHH!!!!!!!!! TOP 2 best ethiopian
Great food! Friendly service. Get the Misto Misto tasting menu.
Dont bother - go to a real Ethiopian place on Bloor or east Danforth. Portions here are TINY. Had the Misto Misto plate for two and a (tiny!) kitfo - wife and I were still hungry. Many of the wots needed salt and the kitfo had little flavour. Had to ask for extra injera and chili paste for some flavour. No snack (i.e. popcorn) with the coffee ceremony. Thats just cheap. I cannot believe we spent nearly $100.00 on food for two and left hungry.
Great Food!! And It Is Something Different..
Amazing food, amazing service.
Looking at the reviews I wasnt sure of this place, however I was very pleasantly suprised. It was the best Ethiopian Ive had in the city. The meat dishes had so much flavour I ate till I burst. The owners were pleasent and nice to talk to. Someone must have complained about lack of water refilling as our water was topped up non stop. Strongly recommend you give it a try.
Superb food and incredible coffee
My new favourite Ethiopian in the city
Good unique food but a little on the pricey side and is not filling. You will most likely still be hungry afterwards. I only wish the full platters of food, which is meant to be shared, came with at least double the amount of food given. The food itself is good but the portion size needs to be doubled or so. Otherwise a nice cozy atmosphere and friendly owner/staff.
Very good food with generous portions. Recommend the misto meat sampler followed by thr coffee ceremony.
It s the worst Ethopian food I ever had if u want a traditional ethiopian food do not come here , and it s expensive for small portion of food, taste was awful too. People who like the food here unfortunately they do not know the real Ethopian food look like. Bad experience. I try the Ethopian food all around the world America,Europe,Africa and middle east .
An elevated dining experience. Would make for a great date night spot. The interior of the restaurant is so nice. Service was great and would recommend the vegetarian tasting menu which is perfect portion wise. More than enough to eat. The tasting menu also gives you a chance to taste all vegetarian dishes they offer! Highly recommended!
Delicious! What a great restaurant in Toronto for Ethiopian food. The atmosphere is very cozy and was great for a get together event. I went with my team for dinner and it was a great experience. I got a latte as well. I heard it was very strong but I risked it anyways because I really wanted to try it! My coworker was fine that night but I definitely stayed wide awake! Their tasting menu is so fantastic. I might get it every time just so I can eat a little of everything!
This is some of the best Ethiopian food in Toronto. The stew had a nice spice and the chicken was so flavourful! Definitely recommend going here.
Authentic, tasty great service.
I was impressed from the moment I stepped Nunu. From the coffee fresh roasted for ceremonies, to the incense burning, to kind eyed staff, Nunu had an ambience that relaxed and intrigued you. I felt like I was being invited into a family meal and yet a culinary experience. The food was excellent, a myriad of flavours, perfectly cooked and presented like a painting. We ate a sharing/tasting plate, if you go with 3 or more people I would highly recommend it.
Stopped here spontaneously for a mid week date night with my partner and we both enjoyed our first Ethiopian dishes. The Ethiopian gin and tonic was delicious! Overall great experience :)
Nice family run business. Great place to grab lunch. Had a their regular coffee black(delicious!) with a wrap and fresh baklava.
The food was all right. We tried the vegetarian platter and kitfo. Ive had better vegetarian food at other Ethiopian restaurants, and they definitely lose points for not having Shiro on the platter.
The vegetarian plate was amazing and definitely try the Tej cocktail!
Excellent Ethiopian food with great service and a nice bar. Food is served traditionally with shared platters and eating with your hands. Reservations recommended.
For ethiopian food, this is one of the best in Toronto. Food is delicious, and the misto platters are the way to go!
Nunu was really impressive! Perfect combination of ambience and food.
Ordered the Misto Meat tasting platter, DELICIOUS! Definately would recommend for other people trying Ethiopian for their first time. Also the freshly roasted coffee was so good!
Amazing. We had the vegetarian misto for two and it was by far the best vegetarian/vegan Ethiopian food we ve had. And we love Ethiopian food so eat it a lot. So fresh, so gorgeously spiced, so yummy. The wait staff was great even though we showed up with a two year old (at 5pm) and the space was gorgeous. Highly recommend 6/5.
This is one of my favourite restaurants and my go to for Ethiopian food! I had one bad experience with Ethiopian food at a different restaurant and decided to give it a second chance by going to Nunu. Needless to say, I continued to come back. The food is always seasoned so well, the staff is very kind and the restaurant ambiance is modern but also gives a really cozy/homey feel. I love it here.
Great Ethiopian place in Queen West. The food was just the perfect amount and very delicious.
Delicious food and knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Loved this place. Food was great quality but be warned there is spicyiness. I recommend the sampler of its your first time to try a bit of everything. But my top fave is doro alicha. Cute interior very relaxing.
So good! We split a plate( had been eating all day and weren t all that hungry) ordered more food before the first plate was finished. Excellent food!
By far my favorite restaurant in Toronto. Have been here 10+ times in 1 year. I always get the Misto Misto as its a mix of all the best food they have. And the coffee! Its an amazing ceremony when they make and serve the coffee.
Best Ethiopian food in Toronto. Absolutely fabulous. Vegan friendly!
Food pretty good, atmosphere outstanding. Having eaten a fair amount of Ethiopian food here in Toronto, I would consider Nunu to be quite good in terms of taste. Portions are smaller and on more expensive side compared to other restaurants. Visual of bar, viewing area into kitchen, and traditional wear of waitresses are fantastic. Aromas of food and coffee were awesome too! Tip: they are testing out new Amsterdam beers so try their beer tasters.
This was the first time I was having Ethiopian food. Must say, really the best food I had in the city so far!!! The Misto Misto dish we had was simply awesome and tasty
Great Ethopian food
Really and honestly, the best restaurant I ve n Toronto. Genuine Ethiopian food that s perfectly made, complex flavours, colours and textures. Nunu is amazing. I come from Ottawa, every time I can!
Highly recommended. I m surprised that there s a brewery on the side of the restaurant, and I love Nunu s recommended beer and the platter covers all the must try items. Will go again
Food, atmosphere and service are all outstanding. Everyone seems to go above and beyond to make sure you have a delicious, enjoyable experience, and the flavours are truly incredible. It is hands down my favourite restaurant in Toronto and I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Cosy nook, authentic Ethiopian spread.
Great delicious food, and remarkable atmosphere. Such a cozy place to have a sit down meal. My friend and I had their Tibs and garden salad (which is super delicious) and the taste was as flavourful as we were expecting. The service was decent and hospitable - they just seem to take a while to come around to check in for anything extra we might want to order. Nothing was overly spicy and the injera was delicious as most Ethiopian places are! We went on a Thursday night so it wasnt as busy as some nearby restaurants. It was a bit pricy compared to what you can get in the East end. The portion is small. Definitely going back.
Oh the TIBBS! Delicious great place decent wine selection. Looking forward to coming Back!
The food is incredible! Get the big plates to share. Worth every penny. Very friendly staff. Great date spot.
Great authentic Ethiopian food
Great quality food and a good bar selection.
Good into to Ethiopian!
Food is great! Service leaves much to be desired :(
Wonderful food, no cutlery necessary!
This is one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the city. The food is authentic and served with joy and happiness. The decor is modern and somehow compliments the food. Offering a cozy and intimate dining experience.
I had the worst experience in this Ethiopian restaurant. The owner Nunu was the server and it was a horrible service and it looks like she was doing us a favour and seems like she cares so much for her white customers that her own people. The food was not tasty at all, a very small portion and over priced/ Not a good choice for people who s tasting Ethiopian food for the first time./The toilet wasn t clean.Am so disappointed and never coming back to this place.
Excellent food, however we felt we got a little ripped off and over charged, ordered food for 3 mix meals for 21$ each. Was also charged samosa with out ordering it. It was tasty. Was told it was part of the mix meal. We paid as did not want an argument. But felt ripped off. So we ended paying over $100. When we thought it was only going to be 65$. That s all, food was great.
Horrible service and the owner Nunu was not welcoming or helpful, not to mention that she looked unkept and was picking her teeth before trying to serve me. I agree with Esete Nigatu, owner acted as if she was doing me a favour. I have been to other Ethiopian restaurants, I would never go back to this one!
Fantastic authentic Ethiopian food with a wonderful staff and atmosphere
The coffee ceremony is a nice way to end a romantic evening.
I went on a Saturday with 2 other friends and it was a full house. It took a while to put in our order as they kept saying they were short staffed. Fine, it happens. It took a few minutes for our beers to arrive. Okay. Then, people who got seated after us and ordered after us got their food first. By the time our food arrived, the people who got seated after us had already finished their food and left while we were still waiting for our food. It took 40-50 minutes!!!!!!!!! The one staff ended up just sitting outside with a beer. So. Much. LOL! Eventually, our food came. Mine wasnt spicy at all and I asked for spicy. The portions are small and its expensive for what youre getting. The price is different from their website. I wouldnt go back to eat, but I would just get their coffee to go.
Went with a friend and we got the mixed veggie/meat platter. Absolutely loved the meal. Never had Ethiopian, but loved it! Would come again.
Tasty food, portions were very stingy and service was below average. One very frustrating thing was a mistake on our bill. They charged us for samosas 4 times. When I asked the the server her reaction was not remotely surprised so I checked google and interestingly enough a recent reviewer had a very similar experience.
Food is good but a little expensive. I really like the atmosphere but we ordered a few beers and some water with dinner the beer came but we had to ask 4 times for the water to come. Also we ordered 2 samosas and got charged for 4 (pay attention to your bill).
Great cocktails and authentic food. Warm friendly vibe. Unprentious room.
Quite enjoyed our meal here. We shared double misto misto and the kitfo appetizer and found everything to be delicious. I was pleased to have silverware, which one doesnt always get at an Ethiopian place. Would definitely go again. At busy times in sue this place fills right up, so maybe try to visit at an off-peak time.
Food was excellent. Service...ehhh. Still worth a trip.
Only open on weekends, nice and cozy place, upscale Ethiopian, taste of the food is delicious, love it
Priced above most Ethiopian the portion sizes are half size, literally tablespoon size dishes on the platter. Staff took forever to start serving and when the meal was complete they tried to wait on us excessively... one of the worst Ethiopian Ive been to
Sharing platter is great!
This was by far the worst restaurant I ve ever been to. They do not have none alcoholic beverages that aren t coffee, tea, or water. They over charge for their mediocre food and the servers do not speak english, therefore it s difficult to communicate with them. Please review your bill if you re unfortunate enough to eat here to make sure everything on your receipt is something you ordered.
Very intimate place. The staff were super nice and the food... oh... AMAZING. You can actually share the taste menu with someone else and you should be good, and is also a great option to try all of their stuff. If youre not up for eating, please ask for the coffee ceremony. Its definitely an experience and probably one of the most aromatic drinks youll ever have. Highly recommended!
Amazing Ethiopian food if youre not afraid to share a big plate and eat with your hands.
always consistent, always delicious!
We went on a Saturday night. The misto misto was tasty. We ordered the baklava for dessert and it was obvious that it wasn t fresh. Weird tasting and impossible to put a fork into- very disappointing. Service was okay- felt ignored at some points. Bit pricey.
The best Ethiopian food in Toronto ever
Went here for work dinner, food was in very small portions and since I dont drink Im assuming they bank off the drinks as I wasnt impressed with the food. Had the meat and veg taste testers both at around 20$ plate.... Veg was ok 6/10 and salad, 8/10...the meat plate however 5/10 as the various taste testers each presented itself with an over powering taste, some of the dishes were so spicy I couldnt feel my tongue or the food. Desert 15/10 baklawa was ok but their banana ice cream was Amazing.....Our server made us feel a bit rushed even though the place was fairly empty on a Thursday night. Over all ambience was good. I would recommend the place.
Best atmosphere after a long week
I really like this place. Amazing food, great service. A little bit pricier than other Ethiopian restaurants but the dining experience is very enjoyable. We always have the vegetarian platter and it is delightful. Their special cocktail is also a must-try (comes with their home-made juice and lots of spices!). The coffee ceremony was also fun to witness if youre up for that, very aromatic but wait after youre done eating as the scent is really strong, very perfume-like, and would interfere with the meal in my opinion.
This place is very pricey for Ethiopian in Toronto--$18/person for the vegetarian mixed platter--which might have been acceptable if the food were outstanding. Unfortunately, the wat (stews) were all mediocre at best, and many were extremely salty. Portions were small, and this place also skimps on the injera for some reason. Your best bet is seeking out one of the older and busier Ethiopian restaurants in town, like those near Ossington and Bloor. Nice atmosphere and the service was good, but we were left confused by all the hype about the food.
