First time here and I loved this Ethiopian restaurant. We ordered a large plate to try everything. All of it was delicious but my favorite was the tibs - it was super tender and flavorful, not dry at all. Highly recommend!

This delicious gem is a must try on The Danforth for Ethiopian and Eritrean cuisine. We enjoyed the Rendez-Vous Meat Combination plate/platter with a gluten free injera. It was absolutely delicious with nice spice if you like alittle heat. It was nice to also eat with your hands. The customer service was good; our server took the time to explain the options that we didn't understand. I look forward to our next visit to this restaurant!!!!

Good place to try Ethiopian food. Delicious and healthy with some spices. Very fresh injera( Ethiopian flat bread), different vegetables and meat sauce. Be prepared to eat meal with your hands, it’s quite very fan and tasty. Do not expect great service, they have to learn that. Will be pleasant to have better quality water glasses. Any place I go, specifically for food I expect to use a clean washroom, it tells me a lot about food business. In this case they should install fun or better ventilation. Otherwise, all the smell travels around eating area … 🥴 I’ve noticed many people take out food.

A Taste of Ethiopia I visited Rendez-Vous, drawn by its reputation. From the first bite of injera with doro wat, I was captivated. The spongy bread paired perfectly with the spicy chicken stew. Finishing with a cup of rich Ethiopian coffee, I was amazed by the bold flavors. Rendez-Vous quickly became my go-to spot for authentic, delicious Ethiopian cuisine.

The service was attentive and efficient. I like the indoor-outdoor set up they have in the summer and the restaurant is warm and spacious. The food was very good. Everything we got was vegetarian and they have a fair amount of vegan options. Their wine options are very limited, though and the wines are of poor quality. I ordered a martini and while what they brought me was drinkable, it barely resembled what I have to come expect a martini to taste like.

It’s been a while I had Ethiopean food and I took my friend from out of town to impress her with their amazing platter. Ordered veg +meat combo platter. My friend was impressed. It was around $62 including 1 soft drink and there was leftover., However My knowlege of Ethiopean food is very shallow, I only know some names such as “Tibs”( meat fried with butter, garlic , onion & pepper), “Injera”(fermented flat bread) “Doro Wat” “Awaze”(sauce), etc. Their menu description in English was very confusing. Almost all the meat dishes had different names but they were mostly sauteed with butter, garlic, onion & pepper. Wait staff was trying to explain that there are various options of meat such as spicy, non spicy, ground meat version, etc. but I was not even sure, I was served with what I actually chose. For example, if you look at #60 &#61, only difference I see is one is served on sizzling plate. However their names are completely different. 60. ChachA Charbroiled beef tender seasoned with spices, onion, garlic, red pepper, green pepper, ginger, rosemary, served with Injera and green salad (It comes with a special sizzling pot). 61. DereK Tibes Charbroiled beef tender seasoned with spices, onion, garlic, ginger, green & red peppers, rosemary, served with Injera and green salad. Experience was overall great but I with they had better menu description.

I love Ethiopian food and so I try to go to as many different places serving it as possible. Rendezvous has by far been my top 3 so far. The food is great, the staff is very helpful. We had someone in our party who was having Ethiopian for the first time and the staff really took time to explain to them the different dishes. The service wasn’t the fastest but that did not take away from the experience. A must try whether you are an avid food lover or looking to try something new and interesting. They have plenty options for meat lovers and vegetarians and the portions are substantial.

It is one of the best ethiopian restaurants in toronto with many awards on its shelves. The owner, Banchi & and staff, are all welcoming, helpful & interacting with customers on all occasions. The atmosphere is designed to feel more original in ethiopian restaurants from addis, it brings lots of memories. Vegetarian options: Lots of choices for vegetarian or vegan.

I dont normally write comment but so called Randez-vous service and kitchen stuff sucks, no respect poor customer service unhealthy food and products. We order tibs but they give us keywot. I only took one bite of the entire meal and pay bills . Since I am habesh I know the difference between tibs and keywot. Even when addesing the matter to the watitres she could only smile and do nothing about it. And the guy who was at the counter does not look happy to serve us at all. He runs to the kitchen and mess up everything. He probably convinced the cook ledy to give us unwanted frozen keywot from frezzer and took our order for himself. We pay money to get the right service and order. Who does give keywot stayed in frezzer for tibs? God knows how long this have been in frezzer. Never again to this place and people watch out for what you pay to eat. No more to this bulshet place not only me but my entire friends and family will never put there fet in that place again. You got to be satisfied of what you pay for but when they mess up on purpose with switching tibs to keywot while paying there bills , heal no I dont care if they are my people or not I have to do what I got to do.

this restaurant has become too busy unfortunately from the previous years I dont know if it has changed management, I used to looove the atmosphere excellent choices of veggie and meat platters, and the njera is out of this world! my server used to be wonderful with the time to do a coffee ceremony for me an the companion ,well now is sooo rushed hurried and hectic the food is still good ,people are so noisy and the music soo loud the change in decor and small tables are a killer, you can access with a wheelchair the first couple of tables but the space is sooo limited, I am not really going any longer I like to enjoy my food and experiences, this is common in many places when they become known for the great food and the crowds raid it!!

This is my first time eating ethiopian food and i was excited to try it. My girlfriend ordered 2 dishes. The rendez-vous solo and the dulet. I ate my girlfriends dulet by mistake because they werent labeled which is which. They were both wrapped in injera and looked exactly the same. I have an allergy to butter and im having bad acid reflux. I should of took a picture of my food it look like ground beef in a wrap. The weirdest part was they both gave us 2 extra injera which was overwhelming. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE! FIRST AND LAST TIME I WILL EAT ETHIOPIAN FOOD. YOU GUYS REALLY RUINED THE EXPERIENCE OF EATING ETHIOPIAN FOOD FOR ME.

Definitely worth a try. The waiting time is crazy but the Ethiopian food makes up for that. Tried doro wat & doro tibes. Doro wat seems to be a ripoff with 1 mediocre drumstick and an egg with an insane amount of gravy whereas the tibes make up for it. Wish they offered additional injera on the side. The washrooms are quite clean too.

It was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I had the most wonderful experience at Rendez-Vous. We got the two meat and two veggies platter which you can see looks like a feast! Our group really enjoyed the food and the flavours were so wonderful. The restaurant had a great ambiance too, complete with beautiful background music and great service. We also got the Ethiopian coffee and watched the coffee ceremony. Our server roasted the coffee beans on a pan next to us and the aroma filled up the entire space. The coffee itself was very delicious. Even though we had it at 9 pm, we had no troubles falling asleep. Will recommend to anyone.

Some of the best food I ve ever experienced . Visited Toronto for a few days went on a Saturday and returned on Thursday. I had some of the same food both times, and while the preparation was inconsistent, they were delicious both times. On my second visit I opted for the collard greens and I m pretty sure it was spinach which was disappointing. Still excellent food, flavors, and service. I highly recommend!!

First time eating Ethiopian food and many people have recommended this spot. Cozy place, with a nice vibe. We ordered the vegetarian plate that comes with a little bit of everything since we didnt really know what we liked. There were 6 or 7 different styles of what reminded me of curried vegetables (there were beets, cabbage, potatoes, lentils, beans) and some salad in the middle. Really good flavor. It comes on a plate of injera which is like a crepe and additional injera rolls that you use to eat the veggies. This plate was $20 and was good to share between 2 people. I enjoyed the food and service and would come back to try their meat dishes next. Lots of green P parking on Danforth.

I loved, loved, LOVED the injera platter It hit right home and it was honestly surprising how similar South Asian and Ethiopian cuisine are! The platters are pretty big in portion. I had myself the Doro Tibs platter and I finished it all in one go THATS how amazing it was. The staff were hands down the best Ive come across. They were all so friendly and welcoming. They had a house-full situation when I visited, but still found a way to mediate customer seating priorities. Will definitely be going back for the Doro Tibs again!

I love this place! Its female-owned, which I like. Ive been 3 times and eaten the same dish - spicy lentils - every time because its so delicious and spicy and good! Im vegan and they have lots of choices for me. Theres meat too if youre so inclined. The service is friendly and helpful, which is what you want in a local restaurant. In keeping with Ethiopian custom, you eat with your fingers. But theyll give you cutlery if you ask! The injera, which is an Ethiopian crepe-like staple, is part of every dish and is available with a gluten-free option. The only thing I would change about this restaurant is the music that they play. Its too loud and its incongruous with the decor and the food. But since thats my only quibble, Ill be back there again for sure!

Terrible food, awful service. Me and my boyfriend were planning to try this place as there are so many good reviews. First of all, we waited for an hour to get our order.. While everyone else, who came later, were already eating Next, we both love spicy, rich in flavor dishes, however this place was just tasteless and plain. The cook came to us and said that we didn t finish something as we never tried Ethiopian food before man, really? Although the experience was indeed a first time for us, we still can easily differentiate between a tasteless dishes and well-made ones (who can t? ). Anyway, I wouldn t recommend going to this place, only if you r tired of soft, rich in flavor food - than this place is calling for you cause you ll find exactly the opposite. 2 stars for the veggie salad - the only flavored thing throughout three dishes :)

Overall a great place to go for a first time west african dinner experience. Visited with a party of 8 (made dinner reservations beforehand) and they were able to accomodate. The establishment is a little smaller, but still felt very homey. Also the lighting is a little bit dim for my liking, especially when you are eating with your hands. Wouldve been nice to see my food a little bit better lol The service was a little slow, given that it was a weekend during peak dinner hours. We did wait for our food for over half an hour, so I recommend ordering some appetizers and drinks to hold you off as you socialize. However, the food was amazing with lots of meat and veggie options, that can cater and feed family sized groups or smaller. We ordered 3 types of meat dishes (beef chicken, lamb) and 3 veggie ones (lentils, collard greens).

I ordered food a few days ago from this location and I was completely ripped off. I was charged $55 for a 25 dollar plate and my order was incorrect. I told them to give me the injeera separately because I didn t want it to get soggy when I get home but I was charged separately for everything. I also asked for the beef with the bone in and they gave me the beef that was cut up into pieces instead. I don t understand how I was charged $55 dollar for a $25 dollar meal just because I wanted the injeera separately. I think they took the opportunity to take advantage and charge me a lot of money but I won t be coming back to this location ever again.

I like the fragrance in this cozy place, but perhaps it should be a little less intense because it made it harder for me to detect the smell of the food and drinks. Additionally, a dim lighting in the interior prevents you from fully appreciating the cuisine. We ordered a vegetarian platter, the food was served lukewarm, the taste was bland and unremarkable. Overall, while the atmosphere was pleasant, the mediocre food would prevent me from returning or recommending this place to others.

My experience at this restaurant is a mixed feeling. While the food tasted great, the lighting was very dull. We couldn t see what we were eating. I have been to totally dark restaurants that really enhance your other senses and such. But you walk in for that experience and you are informed and prepared for it in advance. Such wasn t the case here. Also, felt the place is under staffed. The place was pretty full and only 2 people were handling everything, this impacted the service. Could have been a great experience but turned out otherwise. With respect to quality of food, it was just great! The food was fresh and tasted delicious. The quantity is generous as well.

Not a good experience here. On a weekend at lunch, literally no one else in the entire restaurant. Yet the food still took a long time to come. I got the cha cha which was charbroiled beef and my friend got some 3 meat plate. The cha cha beef was straight up burnt. It was more well done than well done. Some pieces were inedible charred meat bits. While we were eating they started lighting incense or some sort of scented fire right next to us on the counter. Again, literally no one else in the entire restaurant so not sure why they did that This caused our area to smell very strongly of smoke. Not sure why it s so highly rated but there s plenty of better Ethiopian spots nearby.

We were a part of 40 plus and Beti (not sure spelling) our server was amazing. She handled everybodies order very well and it was a smooth process. Food took a while but thats understandable considering how many of us there were. Definitely recommend the food, it was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I got the veggie platter which was amazing. All the different curries were very tasty as was the injera. The coffee ceremony was interesting too and they brought out a pan with the beans toasting in front of us. I didnt realize that its meant to be shared (2-4 ppl) not just for one. And it felt a little rushed but that was probably because of how busy it was. The one complaint would be that 20% auto gratuity was added, but they didnt inform us, so ended up tipping double. Would definitely go back for the food and service. Thank you guys!!

June 14, 2023. The service was not as before. The main point is, we were served with Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony. Three of us drank the coffee and in the receipt it was mentioned Over 4 people. Shockingly the price of the coffee was $30 - much much higher than any expensive food I saw in the menu. Very exaggerated price for a coffee!

If youve never eaten African food, Ethiopian cuisine is a great starting point, its not spicy, has flavour and comes in generous portions. Rendezvous is fun hangout that serves a great selection of Ethiopian food, most of the dishes are a mix protein, vegetables and healthy serving of Injira bread. I like the lamb they serve, it comes in sizzling and has a lovely layer of charring. Note that Ethiopian food is eaten with your hands but the staff will given you cutlery if you desire! Overall had a lovely time, definitely recommend!

One of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the city! I always get the vegetarian platter and it is ALWAYS impressive! My favourites are Ye Kim wot and the gomen. Last time we went my husband had the Ye Begkey tibes - it was so delicious. The meat was tender, and coated in a luscious sauce.

We went to this restaurant to dine in tonight August 29 at 8.50pm. It took us around 15 minutes to order food as we were checking the menu! We also ordered something to drink! 1 white wine which tasted bitter and 2 soft drinks! One waitress came and took order verbally she didn t have any notebook to write the order! Anyway, we started to wait! The restaurant had all native diners of the same community. Except us. After us a group of 8/10 people came and they were promptly served! Maybe within 15 minutes of their arrival.. They might have ordered before coming? Just giving benefit of doubt for that! (All from the same community)!! Then 3 gentlemen came took a table ahead of us and their order was also served on time! The waitress who took our order verbally was walking past by our table with a puzzled look, not maintaining any eye contact! Then finally at 9.50pm I asked where is our food? She didn t answer and hurriedly walked away! We were surprised! The people who came after us all left except those 3 men who were eating! The waitress then comes to our table and quietly mumbled that the food will take some time!( she must have forgotten to place our order to the chef since she took the order verbally) Not ready to hear this after an hour long wait! We stood up prepared to leave and we re ready to pay for the drinks! She said we don t have to pay for the drink!Wow! So generous eh? Not a word of apology for her mistake or negligence !We left the place! I did declare Loud that we will give a Great review! Never to return to that place ever! We eat out quite often and enjoy the food we dine everywhere! A very poor customer service! With a 0 rating!

This week me and my family came here to eat 3 times this week. Each time the service was terrible, nobody cares to ask you if your okay or if you need anything. Customer service is zero. Also I noticed that they treat white people differently and treat them with respect their customer service towards white people is much better than how they treat habeshas. The waitress is not good for customers it will be better for the business if the owner trains the waitresses on how to serve customers with respect and how to treat all people fair. I dont recommend this place to anyone especially if your habesha.

December 22, 2023

They had 1+1 offer for veg combo in UberEats. The food arrived after 2 hours is waiting. It was cold. On top of that, they had put more of the left-over items in more quantities than equal quantity of each. E.g. shiro wat and the spinach items were not there at all but the messer wat was overloaded. In the past, Ethiopian restaurants deliver order with items in separate bowls. But this restaurant had put all the things on injera in one plate. So it was a mess. Not only that, the food was just on the verge of getting bad. We kept it on the counter for 2 hours then out it in the fridge for the next day. And it had turned bad. I love Ethiopian food. And was looking for a good delivery option. They missed the mark by 100 miles. Lost customer.
