The place was closed during COVID and had been renamed to Tinuno. Same awesome food!
Unbelievably great! I come from Filipino heritage on my mother’s side, but it’s difficult to get true Filipino cooking where I live in Maryland (USA) — so in Toronto I was on the hunt for some good cookin’ from the Philippines! 🇵🇭 It worked out that we found Tala on our last night in town, and it couldn’t have been a better first restaurant experience! The kumayan that my fiancée and I shared was INCREDIBLE!!! The presentation was unreal, and quickly became the most authentic Filipino food experience I’ve had outside of family gatherings. The milkfish was full of flavor, and cooked perfectly. The rice was simple, salty, and we couldn’t get enough. The squid was great in small bites — coming from folk that aren’t big into squid (they’re just too smart, so it feels bad). The okra, eggplant, pork belly, mussels.. everything was just really great and I can’t say anything but good things! Staff was very friendly, and helpful in us having this great experience — so salamat! Masarap masarap 🤤
Ordered their Kamayan feast for 2 with the Milkfish and it was absolutely delicious! The rice was fragrant and everything tasted so flavourful without being too salty and greasy. I don't think there was a single item that I didn't like in the set. 10/10 would recommend.
Got it for delivery on Friday for dinner, arrived warm was very tasty huge portion. Came with dessert as well. Ordered some lumpia which was still crispy when it arrived. Bought it again for take out to bring to my parents to drop off for my dad's birthday. Very satisfied- they loved it.
Friendly service and very flavourful food! Got the kamayan feast for 2 and was pretty happy with it, but found some of the chicken to be a bit on the drier side and didn't enjoy the okra (though this might just be a personal preference). Also ordered the shrimp lumpia but think that they were pretty small and underwhelming for the price, so I would pass on that. Overall it's a great option for sharing with your family if you're looking to shake up your typical takeout!
Grabbed lunch here today and it was great! Definitely on the steeper side price-wise but I would still recommend. We got a box (I forgot the name of the dish 🙈) for 2 which had squid🦑, milkfish 🐟, muscles, 🦐, 🍆,🍍, all over garlic rice as well as a mochi donut and it was all 🔥🔥👌🏽
The kamayan feast is mind-blowing! So much food and every single item is an umami bomb - even the garlic rice is bursting with flavor. It's like a party in a box. If I had to nitpick on something, it'd be that the shrimps aren't super fresh and they're a touch overcooked. But honestly, everything else in the box makes up for it. I've been to their sister restaurant Tinuno a few times and I prefer this place. They have a personal-sized option for their kamayan feast, the place is cleaner and the menu is larger. You won't regret coming here.
Tried the delivery as it is always motivating to give new restaurants a taste! Was not disappointed at all with the feast for two. The milkfish and squid was moist and delicious.. they went perfectly well with the abundant assorted seafood and vegetables. Also, the portions were definitely more for 4 people than 2. The order is definitely worth the value!
Very nice food and the stuff friendly
This is a Filipino restaurant, and the name seems to have been changed. The signature is no longer Tala. There were 5 of us in total, and we ordered a set meal of about 25CAD. The dining experience was very special. The ingredients were arranged in a row and placed on a large palm leaf. The merchant provides gloves to eat food with your hands, so it doesn t feel awkward and is quite fun. A variety of ingredients and fruits are placed on the rice, which looks very rich. Let s talk about the shortcomings first. Our experience this time was that the black fish was too burnt. Although the skin could be peeled off, the seasoning was too salty, and the mussels were lightly seasoned. The other ingredients were pretty good, although the squid could have been cooked a little longer to make it crispier, but it was okay. The shrimps and roasted pork are very fresh, and my friends in the same group all like them. Grilled okra and mango are also my favorite items. The most amazing thing is the seemingly ordinary rice. It is seasoned spice rice. The portion is sufficient and the taste is rich. It is delicious! The store is small but has a nice place to hang your coats, and the service is quite satisfactory. I highly recommend sharing it with friends.
I usually get take out from this place The food is nice Food
Absolutely loved Tala, had a great time sharing a meal with my friends. Great value. PSA: If youre uncomfortable with bees, avoid eating outside in the summer. Theres lot of sweet to attract them.
Love the kamayan
Delicious food and amazing and courteous staff. I will 1000% be back
The kamayan feast had great flavours, with a nice variety of seafood and meat. Would recommend ordering the chicken as it had a nice char and was very flavourful, but not dry.
First time to order and tried the food. At first I hesitate but when I opened the box wow... the food not greasy and no fats. Everything I ordered the best . From presentation to the foods...the best . I can highly recommend it to my friends and family
I have a Filipino friend who is constantly bragging about Filipino food. It has always been something Ive wanted to try and so after hearing such great things about Tala my wife and I thought to give it a try. I placed an order for pick-up. The presentation of the Kamayan feast was beautifully filled with so much color and variety. The taste on the other hand was different for each item. While some things exploded with flavor others were bland. The pineapple and shrimp were divine. My only major issue is the pork BBQ skewer was slightly chewy and overly salty which is what I was mostly looking forward to. On the contrary, the pork Lumpia were excellent!! Perfectly crispy and exploding with flavor. YUM!! It is a slightly odd location for parking but given fewer people out during these times finding a spot wasnt hard. I ordered in advance for pick up so I didnt get much time to speak with the staff but they were very polite. The food overall was good. It is certainly worth another try!
Ordered Kamayan Feast with Turon as dessert. Super delicious overall
I have placed an order for pick up and they took 1 hour 20 minutes. I was standing in cold and when I asked she said what can I do it takes some more time.
I have eaten a LOT of takeout and delivery over the last year, but this is next level. Everything was packaged with so much care, every bite was absolutely delicious. The lumpia were crisp and fantastic, the pork adobo is juicy and FULL of flavour, even the rice was amazing.
I got a Valentines day special and it was such a great experience. Perfectly packed, fresh and very-very delicious food! Very easy to order/pick up. I will definitely be back!
Great tasting food! You know it s popular when the restaurant calls to say that 3 of the options on the plate are sold out for your UberEats order.
Kamayan feast to go had good portions! Food was fresh and flavourful. We will be back for sure :)
Amazing bbq pork skewers for $3
Creative but authentic filipino food
I ordered 4 individual kamayan from Tala for a park picnic. It was the perfect dish for a celebratory park dinner: tons of variety, a beautiful presentation, and all contained in one box- so less waste and no fussing with multiple containers. They had to sit in the car for 2+ hours, and when we finally got to them they were still delicious! The squid especially was fantastic: both tender and slightly creamy. My partner discovered he likes milkfish/bangus through the kamayan box, and a friend discovered garlic rice! I highly recommend picking up extra pork skewers if youre considering it, the sauce is fantastic. And this goes without saying: you need lumpia too. Lots of lumpia.
Talagang masarap (very tasty!) I Doordashed a Chicken BBQ-silog and wow quite fresh and the seasoning was just perfection. Also had pork lumpia (spring roll) as a side (a bit over the top as this is a ton of great food lol) but the bill with tip was well under $20. Great local find lol
I ordered the kamayan feast through ubereats and i was so disappointed and upset. The portion was really small, not worth the price. I have gone to better Filipino spots. Do yourself a favor and never order from here.
Authentic home-cooked filipino food with generous portions at fair prices. Favorites include kamayan, pork sisig lumpia and many more. Highly recommended!!
Five stars!
Amazing and unique food experience. Would definitely come back frequently.
A generous and delicious feast. Make sure to get the garlic rice!
This place is amazing! If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! I have ordered from Tala for the fourth time and have never been disappointed. Ordered the lechon kawali, pork adobo, and flan :) Thank you for the amazing service and food!
Great experience and even better food!
Been a fan of Tinuno for a long time. Had to check out as soon as I heard the team was opening a location near AGO. LOVED the experience. Following the first experience, actually proposed for a meal donation partnership with my business for Torontos frontline healthcare professionals fighting against COVID-19. Just delivered the first batch last week to Toronto General. Scheduled for more meal donations in the coming weeks at various hospitals in GTA. Thank you + Happy to introduce Tala to our healthcare workers.
This is the Filipino restaurant that Toronto needed! Delicious, home-cooked dishes both savoury and sweet; great portion sizes and made with love. Cant wait for the brick & mortar to be open to the public once quarantine is over :D
Been a long-time fan of Tinuno, so you could only imagine my excitement when I first heard about the opening of Tala! I stand by the team behind all of this great Filipino food because theyre always consistent about one thing: staying true to the authenticity of the cuisine. It takes me back to my childhood days in Manila, which is the best experience I could ever ask for from a restaurant. This city has enough overly priced and westernized Filipino restaurants. Make no mistake, Tala (and Tinuno) isnt one of them. Highly recommended! Para sa mga Pilipino na nakakabasa nito, hindi po kayo mabibigo!
Omg,, was absolutly amazing..i love it !!!
Great filipino food, bonus is that its priced fairly! Really love the idea with the Kamayan feast that comes in a pizza box (which is in an ingenious way of minimizing plastic so Galing na idea!). Will definitely be reordering soon! Cant wait til the doors officially open and enjoy the full experience! Keep it up! We love that representation!
Amazing food, amazing price! They havent been opened for that long and theyre already doing so much to give back to the community during these tough times and it warms my heart! Im a forever fan!
tala creates a delicious mix of authentic and innovative filipino dishes. their kamayan is an absolute MUST and ive been loving their recent dessert collaboration with knockout ice cream. will be ordering from here again and again and again (emphasis on again).
Loved the Kamayan kit for 2. Awesome value and so tasty. Will definitely be back. Recommend getting the milkfish and chicken!
After seeing so many nice pictures and positive reviews on social media, I ordered a mini kamayan today. Maybe the expectation was too high, I actually ended up a little disappointed. The food is ok but for $21 , I have had something with better value even in downtown. The piece of chicken does have good flavour in the skin but does not have much meat. The skewer is very difficult to chew and I can only taste the bbq sauce not so much the meat itself. Probably won t return especially for 20 minutes drive like I had to make today
Super nice small business! We had the pork sisig, liempsilog, tapsilog, and the ube cookies provided by The Night Baker. My friend and I also won a pack of all their ice candy flavours from an Instagram giveaway. Thank you for sharing our Filipino culture in a city that can certainly use more Filipino flair!
Food was fresh. Great service.
I love the delicious Kamayan feast from Tala! It s a yummy mix of bbqchicken, calamari, milkfish, mussels, prawns with grilled pineapple, okra and eggplant, presented atop rice and bananaleaves ! I get the mini feast for one, but it definitely feeds more than one person! I love the concept of a Kamayan Feast which is sharing a communal meal, although difficult for us to do these days :( Nevertheless, the food is still delicious even if I enjoyed alone! Thank you Tala for continuing to provide great service and amazing food during this challenging time! I wish you and your team continued success!
Found myself stuck in Toronto after cancelled plans of going back to the Philippines this summer and I can definitely say that Tala has actually been my home away from home. Filipino food has always been my comfort food and I always look forward to ordering food from here since they never disappoint! The food is so good that I cant help but order every week ;-;
Great food and beautiful presentation, everything was fresh and tasted amazing. It s a little far for me so unfortunately it had cooled slightly by the time we got home but that s on us, no complaints here! Will definitely be going back again soon
Absolutely beautiful presentation, but was underwhelmed given the reviews. The milk fish was delicious, the rest of the food was mostly blanched or grilled without much flavouring. The service was nice and prompt, it took 10 minutes from when I placed my walk up order.
It s to the point where I m ordering almost once a week! The food is well priced and tastes authentic. Incredible service and happy to spend my money here!
great food, excellent service! I love their constant collaborations with local artists and other businesses and basically subsist on the little snacks they offer at their sorry sorry store. everything just reminds me of home in the best way.
Amazing food and great service. Ive ordered from them many times and never have been disappointed. The portions are generous and presented so beautifully. I would recommend following them on Instagram to get all the delivery updates and place your pre-order there. You can also pre-order on door dash but IG is the fastest/best way. I would also recommend pre-ordering early as they do sell out quick!
Tala is incredible!! You HAVE to try the Kamayan kit the first time you go. Its delicious, and so fun to eat. But dont discount the other menu items too! Last time I got the pork adobo and spicy chicken adobo binalot dishes and they were sooooooo good. So flavourful, and felt so home-y. Such wonderful food! And such a refreshing takeout option if you live right downtown. 100% recommend it!!
Delicious! And that candy just makes it sweeter. No pun intended. We had the Kamayan Kit $36 (Left Box only) with I can t remember what the right box was but it was pretty good too. Everything in this kit was amazing. From the garlic rice to the squid. It s a lot of food so don t be fool by the picture. We definitely had leftovers. The candy was a melon flavour with a minty aftertaste which was soothing. It was a bit salty so have a drink near by. I think they could cut the salt ratio down a bit but that s my own pallet so to each their own. Kamayan Kit $36 pictured below Grilled Pineapple Atchara Garlic Rice Squid Shrimp Mussels Eggplant Okra Chicken Inasal Milkfish
pretty pretty good
All the protein was cooked perfectly and everything was well seasoned.
Amazing desserts!!
Decided to try out the kamayan feast, sisig and lumpia shanghai. It hit the spot for me. Ill need to come back to try the desserts as they were sold out of mochi donuts.
Really wanted to give them a higher rating but ordered the Kamayan Feast and the chicken was raw inside.
Wow. A friend of mine ordered this for us. I can t even... it was so delicious soooo delicious that I can t wait to have it again. I loved the presentation and the food it was so good. Fresh. If you love seafood you will absolutely love this. Yum!!
Their kamayan feast is a must-try!
Pre-ordered on uber eats for pickup at a specific time and they finished the order 15 mins early so the food sat around and got cold by the time I could pick it up. When I got there, 2 employees were there prepping orders and I said hi but was just ignored for a few mins. The portion size for 2 people is also very small. Just over all disappointing.
Amazing food, amazing service! We recently placed an order for a sizeable kamayan feast for the family, and it did not disappoint! We may have been too takaw mata when ordering, but it made for a filling dinner. The grilled squid was probably my favourite part! The order process was fast and seamless, and any questions or concerns were answered in a swift manner. Its only been 18 hours since we had our kamayan feast and Im already craving it again! Will absolutely be back to order more.
Great homestyle Filipino food! It definitely satisfied my cravings! We got the kamayan kit with chicken and pork lumpia, the kamayan was great with a lot of variety and the pork lumpia was . Will definitely return to try other menu items whenever Im missing Filipino food.
I have ordered numerous times from Tala and I have never been disappointed. Portions are sufficient and always tasty. I just hope they would provide an option where you can order half of one item and half the other for there breakfast dishes. Verdict- I recommend This is a review based on delivery through an app
As a first-time customer, I truly enjoyed it! Tasty, not the typical greasy-filipino-ihaw-food. It was well-cooked with decent portions. They did not over do the seasoning which I really appreciate plus the smoky flavour added extra yumminess. They even followed special request too. Salamat!I recommend! Would order again.
Had the feast for 2 and it was incredible. Everything on the platter was delicious. Ill definitely be ordering from here again!
