TINUNO means “to cook by direct / extreme heat; under a grill or over a hot fire.” THE STORY Cathy Ortega & Gerald Aquintey didn't know what to expect after finally opening up a Filipino small grocery & takeout joint together. The shop was doing great but they wanted to do more. They wanted to give Toronto a much more authentic Filipino taste and experience without the price of a flight to the Philippines. Kamayan / Boodle Fight (the formality of eating with your hands) was the obvious solution.
Trying Tinuno Bathurst this time around! As expected, the Kamayan feast did not disappoint! Today on a winter day, we decided to eat Filipino food after around 2 months! We had sinigang, sisig, and the Kamayan feast good for 5 people. The photos will speak louder than this review. BUSOG!!!
I love the Bathurst location it has parking space to park your car, more spacious inside the restaurant to dine-in compare to their Sherbourne location very tight space. The food is good and plenty. The only thing I don't like when I ate there a week ago is that their grilled telapia seems old. Also, the place is very cold the food gets cold easily as well, and because of that the food is not as tasty afterwards. The kamayan food for 2 ($25/person) can actually be shared by 3-4 persons. The service is great, they serve the food fast like in 15mins.
Came here with my dad and we tried the kamayan for 2. Food was delicious. Staff were very friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend it, especially for family style dining.
This was a very nice family friendly restaurant and environment. The food was very good, and flavourful. The endless garlic rice was amazing. Service was quick and very friendly. There is a large selection from the menu and lots of shareable options.
I went to the Little Manila location and they did not disappoint. They were able to accommodate a group of 3 last minute on a Friday night for kamayan. The room was filled so the noise level was quite high. The kamayan is cheap and the portions are huge. They set up the banana leaf on the table and added all the food. Beware of the unlimited garlic rice!! It was absolutely delicious so you will keep asking for more. Their halo-halo was the best way to finish off such a filling meal.
Came to Tinuno on Sunday around 5:30pm. We got our table right the way but they started to get busy. I suggest you make a reservation of you want to come. This is a Filipino restaurant and I was told by a Filipino friend that they are authentic. Service is very good here. Everyone we talk to are friendly. We ordered the Kamayan (Boodle fight) which they put the meal on the table (table is cover by banana leaf) It is $25 per person and rice is free refill. The key for Kamayan meal is to eat with your hands... They have disposable gloves for you so your are not using bare hands. But I did see some people are eating with their bare hands. The meal is a combination of meat and seafood. The garlic rice is pretty good in my opinion. The drinks Calamansi is really refreshing. The pork spring rolls is good as well. Parking lot is small but no problem for us when we get there. Is a very lovely local restaurant that I will return if I am in the area.
Great place to go with a group, reservations are recommended. We had the kamayan with the milk fish, tilapia, squid, etc. Everything was seasoned well with great flavors. However, some of the items were a bit too burnt, such as the okra and the milk fish, which was dry, even though it was very delicious. The garlic rice could also have more garlic in it. But, overall this was a great experience and a good value for the amount of food.
Food is excellent. One of the best Philippine food place you get go to in the GTA area. Service was okay, but can be a bit slow from time to time. Atmosphere is good. Washrooms are clean. However, almost everything you can find in the restaurant entrance is up for sale (including plants….???) which we find a bit weird. Overall definitely my go to place for Philippine food. It’s quirky and delicious.
I went for the first time and the server took the time to explain to me. Delicious food and good vibes in the place, Ill be back soon!
very cool experience and food was great!
The food taste so good service is amazing friendly staff the restaurant is a bit small that s why you need to make reservations if your coming with a group of people Vegetarian options: The food is actually well balanced
Wonderful experience eating at Tinuno. We had the Kamayan which was well prepared, fresh, and tasty. Great relaxing and casual atmosphere
Food was delicious and so well priced! Kamayan is definitely a great meal for large parties and at $25 per person, it s a steal. The food was amazing and the garlic rice is unlimited!!!! Absolutely going to be coming back.
Made a mistake on our order and did not clarify during the order taking process. We got one whole tray instead of individual ones when we clearly asked for four.
Had the kamayan tonight as part of a school event and it was so delicious. They were serving a bunch of teenagers but everyone was so kind and gracious. Thank you for welcoming us into your space. I ll be back for your food again.
Don t think too much about it! Just go and try it is totally worth your time, the experience of eating such food is worth it!
Good amount of servings for the price listed! Fast service and tasty food, cant go wrong with Tinuno if you are craving for some good grilled chows! The halo-halo, they dont cheap out on condiments, drooool! Sarap! Will definitely go back and will definitely recommend! Ive also noticed families of different cultures are enjoying the delicious food with their bare hands or with gloves trying to eat how we would in our traditional way. That says a lot not just as a restaurant but influencing/sharing the Filipino way to others is just heartwarming to see. Keep it up Tinuno!
What a gem! I arrive and I was the only white guy in the room. The rest each and every other table they were the Filipinos. The service is laid-back, but efficient, and the food on point. Definitely a good honest restaurant. The bill, not even 40$
I wouldnt visit this restaurant again. My exact experience was posted here by someone named Appoline 4months ago.The kamayan mentioned in the menu, very misleading.A lot of the food was missing and instead of addressing the issue the server wanted to speak condescendingly at me.How can you charge pp and not serve pp? You should be serving whats advertised on your menu instead you charge the price but cut the food. How can three adult people be satisfied with 1 milkfish, 1 tilapia,8 shrimp,6 mussels,2 pork skewers and 7 small pieces of pork belly? Your attitude was absolutely disgusting!!!And you had the audacity to say I was complaining. If Im spending my hard earned money why wouldnt I say you are cheating me.Was it because the 3 of us were black? We waited 1 hour for service even though ppl came in after us 7 to be exact and got food in abundance before us.SHAME ON YOU!!!!
Best place to experience authentic GOOD FOOD
The place is over-hyped. I m sorry but food there is terrible. They don t deserve a 4.3 star rating that google has given them. The food there tastes like the cook improvised recipes and used ingredients that are not authentic to the dishes. The prices are exorbitant, truly a rip-off! Stay away from this Filipino restaurant. Go somewhere else!
We were a big group (~15 persons) and had the kamayan to share as well as ordered some additional dishes (e.g., spring rolls, deep fried pork belly, sisig). The staff are very welcoming and attentive. They were checking in with our group quite a bit and were very receptive to requests, and even letting us stay past closing because we had a few birthdays we were celebrating in the group. The food was fine. In my opinion, this is more for the experience of sharing the meal family style and eating with your hands on the banana leaves. Many of the items were quite overcooked and dry in my opinion, and the milkfish was way too salty. Some of the vegetables were also burnt and were mostly black. It s good anyway for the experience like I said, and a good amount of food to fill you up for not a bad price.
Great food and amazing for the value, though it s clearly mentioned that if they re serving 5 or more persons on the kamayan fest there s a service charge that s not included in the actual bill instead they put it through gratuity percentage, smart way to hide it from the CRA and to get you to tip.
I ve visited this place several times and always ordered the Kamayan. It s perfect for group dinners, offering a unique, hands-on dining experience that s both interactive and social. The service is consistently friendly and quick, and the food is delicious every time. Highly recommend for a fun night out with friends!
I am *obsessed* with Tinuno s all-day breakfast option specifically the tapsilog, holy yum! The perfect rice with two eggs & little mango salad next to a heap of mouth watering tapas reminds me of Korean style bibimbap. Their freshly squeezed Calamansi juice, complete with floating Calamansi, beats any cold Starbucks drink, especially for hot Summer days. Tinuno is well staffed, so it s also very fast to pick one up. Calamansi is a hybrid of Mandarin orange & kumquat, the flavour is lemon-lime-citron like, tart & sweet with notes of zesty rind and almost bergamot-like aromatic qualities, very tropical. It s a super refreshing, hydrating aperitif and/or palate cleanser that s packed with minerals & vitamin C. The portions of Tinuno s hearty, homestyle cooking are very generous, yet I happily finish it all chased by a similarly generous sized freshly squeezed calamansi juice to feel 100% sated & hydrated. Did I mention it s $20 together?! Discount if you use cash It s a good feeling to find a new favourite, friendly spot in the neighbourhood, and I plan to bring my friends for the full spread!
Vegetarian options: no vegetarian option Food
Made a reso for two. The food was great and when you get the Kamayan I personally love the milkfish over tilapia. There was so much rice and yet they still offered to give us more rice going around the tables. It was very entertaining to eat with our hands (with gloves on), my girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Will absolutely come back.
Great food and service.
Just received our order and was disappointed with the portion. It says for 4 person but its good only for 2 people. The portion for the sisig and chicharon is small as well. We needed to order for more food. Not worth it, this is the first and last time we order from this store.
Had Kamayan, 2 People, 25$/person, with fried pork belly 15$. Great quality and value for the price! Garlic rice was very tasty.
Good place for groups and try eating the philpino way!
So good and plentiful. Unlimited garlic rice which we appreciated. 10 hungry us Sea food was well grilled and we enjoyed. Food
We just had our lunch yesterday in this restaurant and most of my friends werent satisfied with the food because most of it were burnt and too dry especially the milk fish and okra. The banana turon is also dry and cold. The staffs thinks only of the tips and made it mandatory
This was the first time I have had Boodle Fight and was very impressed. Services was quick and food was excellent. I also really enjoyed the alternative method of eating the food and the plating will leaf you wanting more.
Food is so goooddd
It doesnt get much better for this. The feast options are incredible and always worth the drive
My third time there and i had to edit my review. Yesterday i went to the North York one and for 2 people, we got two shrimps, 2 mussels, 2 bbq each and one fish and one squid ??? The portions for two would have been enough for one person. For 50 cad you expect some more food. On top of that the milkfish was burnt and they still gave it to us making the garlic rice black. We had to take one more portion (25cad more) so in total 75 cad for all our food. We could have added some more money and gone to a real seafood place. See attached is a picture of the portion for two for 50cad. I am very disappointed I have never gotten this problem there before and we went in bigger groups. It was my birthday and I felt ripped off :(
Delicious food.
Love their kamayan and chicken bbq!
Supposed to be 5 stars but since they are not paying attention of what their customers are ordering so I think doesn t deserve 5stars at this point.Look!!! I ordered 3pork BBQ & 2 Chicken BBQ Around 7:30pm on Monday August 5th,just recently,I ordered mussels ,garlic rice and pork shanghai rolls ,But when I arrived home and checked my orders, they gave me 2pcs of hotdogs instead of chicken BBQ? It s just very upsetting coz I live far,or else I will comeback to change it coz it s not cheap u know?U paid for the price of chicken bbq and they ll give u hotdogs? Not nice at all Next time focus to your customers po coz it will affect the ratings of your business.. by the way (PORK BBQ here is not generous serving like Republika does, bbq here is very small and hard texture..not yummy at all.Hotdog tastes plastics
First time at Tinunos. I found the food fantastic. We had Kamayan and the price was very reasonable. I loved the garlic rice, the bbq pork skewers, bangus, fried tilapia and everything that was set up before us. Halo-halo was one of the best Ive had. The staff were all friendly and we were a big party of 19 people.
Best foods. I went there to buy my lunch. I got 2 ulam combo but i think better to get combo one kc the amount of ulam is more than combo 2. Combo 2 only gave me 2 teaspoons of meet and two teaspoons of ginata. I always buy lunch but i was shocked yesterday for combo 2 small dishes given. So I suggest to have combo 1. No more complain. Their food is delicious and clean...
The best Filipino experience food , garlic rice is delicious
Authentic Filipino cuisine offered with an enthusiastic staff and quick service. Great place to get your cravings fulfilled! Halo halo was delicious and their bbq skewers are so good. I d definitely recommend this to anyone who has the urge for authentic Filipino food. Parking: Less than 10 parking spots
I ve been going to the other location for many many years and have always loved the food. First time at the new location and it was great food just odd service. Felt very ignored and forgotten. Will probably go back to the other location but still amazing food.
my first time having kamayan, and my experience was amazing here! it was really yummy
Was very excited to try this place. But then when we were asked if we are dinning in and if we are only ordering halo halo or short orders they cannot accomodate us because they have reservations. I do not think this is right! It is a big DISCRIMINATION !
My friend and I ordered Kamayan for two and calamansi juice. A group of two that arrived at least 5-10 minutes after us, got served earlier than we did (same order). The service was really poor. My friend and I definitely felt discriminated against. The staff were more attentive to the Filipino and white patrons. The lady who served our food touched our straws with her hands and moved my drink away very rudely when she came to serve our food. I liked the calamansi juice. The pork skewer was definitely the tastiest item in the platter. The shrimp and mussels were cold despite the rice underneath being steaming hot. Til, the rice was garlic rice which is news to me considering just how bland it was. The supposedly boneless milkfish had bones in it, was extremely salty and charred. I doubt the tilapia is any better, because I noticed that the large group sitting beside us left theirs untouched. I personally didnt bother to try the okra and eggplant, but my friend seemed to enjoy the eggplant. We never got offered water. The meal was filling and the items that were seasoned were seasoned properly. I m open to trying out this restaurant again, but not the Bathurst location.
Authentic Filipino Grilled food at its best. Although extremely busy on a Sunday afternoon, it was worth the wait. Welcomed by a warm friendly staff, our food was served in the traditional style with banana leaves laid out on top of our table. The menu was set according to the amount of people at your table. The serving was more than enough. The variety of grilled food was fabulous, fresh and super tasty. The over all atmosphere and concept of the restaurant gave us a feeling of sharing a wonderful meal in the true essence of our Filipino culture, which involves eating with our hands. We were totally engaged with the presence of each other and all the wonderful food that was set in front of us. We left the restaurant feeling satisfied, the price was right, and it was truly a memorable experience and we couldnt stop talking about it on the way home. The best part is that you could take home your left overs from this all you could eat grilled experience. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone who wants to try what true Filipino cuisine is all about. We would advice to book a reservation. Thank you TINUNO! Looking forward to our next visit.
We got charged for 4 people! Which is weird cause there s only 3 of us. We did ask for rice. Just one time but they took forever. Saying it s unlimited rice. But I still play nice. And tipped them good. service 10/10 food 10/10 experienced 5/10. All on all i was good. But I won t go back.
If you are not hungry, you should not visit this restaurant. The portions were significant! We were there for lunch with a group of 6 and we started with two different types of spring rolls and crispy BBQ pork. The BBQ pork was excellent. It was expertly prepared and it was tender yet crispy at the same time. I had the Tapsilog which is a form of their all-day breakfast. It came with beef, garlic rice, 2 fried eggs and a salad. It was filling. Two lunch companions ordered the kamayan, which is a shared meal for 2 or more people. There was enough food for 4 people even though it was supposed to be for 2. The meal came with milkfish, two other types of fried fish, fried eggs, sausages, beef, fries spam, tomatoes, salad and a huge bed of garlic rice. It was a meal of epic proportion. All the food was well prepared albeit a little greasy. We had a great time at the restaurant.
I would highly recommend @Tinuno as the most respected and duly trusted Filipino Restaurant and Catering in Toronto. Location: Bathurst Baycrest, and Howard Downtown. Food
Friendly staff, great ambiance and good food. Kid-friendliness: Delicious pork barbecue. Food : 5/5 |
Watch out!! Their menu is very misleading We ordered 4 kamayan $25 each what the menu says and on our table set we only got 1 tilapia, 2 bangus, 4 bbq sticks, 8 shrimps of unlimited rice ,4 small pcs pork belly! This menu served was only good for 2 persons instead of 4 as stated on the menu.see pics We are missing 3 tilapia, 3 whole bangus and 2 orders of shrimps and pork bellies which we never had! Therefore you must order one by one and never as a group setting to get your orders worth $25 as mentioned We will Never go back in this restaurant scamming fellow Filipinos. Why this need to happen in Canada?
love it, service was great too. authentic filipino hospitality
This place is not deserving of it s 4.3 stars. Was in town for the week for business. A co worker and I had lunch here. We each ordered the Kamayan. As someone had mentioned in one of the reviews you do not get everything you re supposed to. You pick the bonless bangus or tilapia. We chose the bangus. We only got one bangus even though we each had ordered the Kamayan. The service is subpar. We also ordered a 1lb of lechon kawali which I had to inquire about twice and didn t get it until towards the end of our meal. There were a lot of flies. A LOT of flies. This is not a place I d recommend.
We tried the Kamayan for $25 each person. The food was served hot and there was unlimited garlic fried rice which was a plus. There was plenty of seafood and meat combined so totally worth the price. The staff is very hands on and prepared the food really well.
The best Filipino food in Toronto! I ve been at this restaurant twice now and 3 more times downtown. The care and attention from the staff are awesome!
First time here at this location and been a few times at the downtown location. We were welcomed right away and called before if they have availability, which they did luckily! Our server Raquel was so nice and funny. Great kamayan food and price for only $25! It includes milkfish, tilapia, squid, shrimp, mussels, pork belly, pork skewers, okra, mango salad, eggplant and garlic rice. We also had a calamari as an appetizer. Our dessert is leche plan; very tasty! We will definitely come back here again!
Service was good but food are nothing out of ordinary, my home cooked versions of the food we ordered are 3 notches better. I noticed most of the flavouring are from grocery store ready made variety. Not priced to level of quality, expensive. Place is not tidy enough for food business entity.
Very authentic Philippino Restaurant warm service. Like the garlic rice vey much. Must try the halo halo....
It was really outrageous. When we ordered a plate of kamayan, the waiter told us that it was for two people, so it couldn t be eaten by three people? Its really funny. Besides, we ordered something else and then asked them why the third person couldnt taste it. They said it was the rule in the store. Are you kidding me? What do you care about the money we paid? So speechless
Best kamayan in Toronto, I love their fried rice.
Good place, but they do not have much selection of food. The staff was really nice and friendly.
I really like it. Well keep coming back.
I called and booked a reservation for two people. Arrived before my reserved time to check in. They must have overlooked my booking and when I asked where my table was they gave me a make shift table in the middle of everyone. Uncomfortable seating. We left and ended up not eating. Very unprofessional. Lady staff was unapologetic at all.
Usually I get my lunch for Tinuno, is the best Filipino restaurant I been trying. The food is so tasty and the guys work there all of them are so kind. I really recommend.
Had a bit of everything... All good
My first time trying Filipino cuisine and wow was this one of the best meals in Toronto. Everything put down in front was screaming scrumptious with excellent presentation on a banana leaf. The Kamayan feast was the perfect meal for 2 with unlimited portions and refills of garlic rice that was done to perfection. Would however highly recommend this place for larger groups as the food then served just on the leaf rather than on a board and leaf but could definitely not complain for the party of 2 setting as the food took care of it all Definitely one of the best spots in Toronto to get your hands in and enjoy
I ordered the take out today and quite disappointed me this time cuz the Kamayan feast were burnt out black and overcooked. The taste was okay but its roasted black tasting bitter overall. Its worse than the one I had before in downtown.
Many foodies usually pick the signature if is first time to try, it was a good choice and tasted many styles of food.
highly recommend!
First time trying authentic Pilipino food, came for dinner on a Thursday night, place was packed but we were able to get a table. Got the Kamayan which is $25pp, and is served on these leaves like family style. Man was it great, all the different and new flavours mixed with the garlic rice was very cool and very yummy. Ive been twice now, and will be coming back, service is always great and never had any issues.
Ordered via Uber eats. 3 kamayan boxes $25 each. I got the Inasal and others got lechon kawali and bbq pork. Quantity was ok for $25. It comes with spring rolls. I got the veggie and its literally the same thing they serve in other restaurants. Im Filipino and to me this is disappointing. The chicken quarters (2) were good size but extremely salty. Do not order!. Garlic fried rice is good. We also ordered chicken skin. Even saltier than Inasal. We ended up throwing it out. It was not edible
Restaurant is tiny, food is ok but the service is top notch. Thank you for the great experience for us tourists from Alberta.
Its delicious. Camayan is very good.
Best Kama yan Filipino food and experience!! good parking lot, friendly staff, neat and cozy interior ! must try in tdot! Food
If you love grilled seafood and barbecue this is the place to go. Amazing food and quick service. Tinuno is one of my favourites. It was our first time at the Bathurst location and we did the boodle fight (kamayan) for $25 a person. Which I would say was a reasonable price considering how much food is served with unlimited rice. Food was delicious.. Eating with our hands never tasted so good. Gloves and condiments were on the table when we arrived but I would suggest to add napkins as well though cause it could get a little messy and on a packed day it may be a little difficult to get a servers attention. We got there on a Sunday at 7pm, so it was a little difficult to find parking at first and by the time we got in the room was pretty packed and there wasn t much room to move around. Other than that, it was a cozy atmosphere and great for families. Good food and good vibes. We also ordered the fiesta ham and picked it up on the 24th. I made it for New Years and oh man, definitely a hit. Fiesta Piña ham is a must during the holidays, will be ordering from them again.
Food was great!!! Service was good. Overall, such a great experience. M
Me and my friends (group of 9) went here last sunday. We have been eating here for awhile, everything is great the food and the service as usual until we paid. We didn t want to put the bill on just one person and Etransfer because that s too much work and we could pay separately since we ate the $25 kamayan. But they told us that they charge 18% tip EACH since we re group of 9. They only told us at the time of the payment, not before. I don t think we did this before, we were more than 9 aswell. I don t think it s fair because we didn t ask much for their service besides the water and napkin. 5%-10% is reasonable but 18% each? Will definitely think about coming back here again because of this.
We came here to celebrate a birthday. We got the $25/person kamayan for dinner. All food/ulam were so good, service was great! They were very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend!
Tinuno is one of my favourite places downtown, with a delicious menu. Go for the Kamayan feast :) Comes with a variety of seafood, bbq pork, fish, veggies, plus they ask you if you want more rice! Its a go-to place for me when meeting up with friends. The workers are also always kind and have good vibes! Definitely recommend
Amazing food with amazing price. Only $25/person!
The place is very Filipino,The Food are excellent and the crew are energetic, reliable, and courteous.Sanitation and Cleanliness is evident.I am looking forward for my next visit.Mabuhay at Maraming Salamat Po!
My husband was surprised about the food.
Got the Kamayan for $25 it was pretty good, the food was seasoned well and cooked well, and for the price, it was a steal, dinner for 2 plus tips and tax included came out to $90 for two. The food was a bit on the oily side but thats quite normal for Filipino food. The host however was a little bit out of it. With the restaurant half empty they turned away or left some guests waiting long enough that they left. They werent very attentive, or maybe the host was new either way, a little unprofessional.
Tastes like food you could cook at home. Nothing exceptional about the flavour. Unique dining experience eating with your hands. My experience wasnt bad. This just isnt something I would back for in terms of taste profile.
My family and I ordered the Kamayan for three, and the variety of mouthwatering foods on top of the fragrant garlic rice tasted fantastic, steaming with a smoky and charred aroma. For dessert, we ordered the ube cheesecake which was deliciously sweet, creamy, and the delightful ube flavour was present. The eating experience was super fun, the portion sizes were big, and the staff were wonderful. We enjoyed our meal very much and would love to come back to try some of the other dishes.
Fun experience, service was really friendly & accommodating and the price was quite reasonable. Its also a great place to go with a group ( it is a small place so make sure you call ahead). I went with a group of 15 and they sat us in a private to upstairs Food was solid but ya Id say the experience is the main draw. I would definitely come again though!
nice filipino foods ..
Always an amazing experience and the best Kamayan in Toronto! Why it is my favourite Filippino place to take friends and family!
Is fun to eat there with a huge group and chat. Mostly is the experience that makes it worth coming here. The food is just okay, taste very ordinary. Should try it at least once.
Food is okay. Rice arrived cold but the rice refill was nice and hot. For $25 per person, its ok.... it used to be $15 before covid
We came here for dinner but decided to leave. Even though there was plenty of room, the server was extremely rude and seated us next to the door that really have small space even for two people. She claimed that the other table was reserved, but when a customer arrived after us, she asked if they had reservations; the two Chinese women replied that they did not, and she seated them in the good spot that we had requested. They are racist and will not give you priority if you are Filipino.
Oh my, what a fun experience! The way the food is served and the way to eat is just so much fun!! And grilled food?? Oh my
If only zero star rating is available .. When we arrived at the Howard location the seating we reserved was not available and had to wait. When we were finally seated, nobody came to take our order. We had to asked for help so we can place our order. We eventually placed our order and the server setup table for kamayan. We Waited for over 40 minutes and our order never arrived. After inquiring, we discovered the server forgot to book our order for drinks and food on system. A simple apology for the error would have been nice but no such apology were made. We left not eating as we could not wait any longer. Go to Islas on Queen Street instead for good food and excellent friendly service.
My and my Filipino-Canadian family s go-to Filipino sit down and takeaway restaurant in Toronto. Must visit.
Friendly staff. Good food. Breakfast platter on banana leaf is the best.
Did anyone read the blogTO article? The place definitely didn t look sanitary when I went but I thought that was what they were going for?!? I thought it was more authentic? But learning the employees don t wash their hands is absolutely disgusting since the whole point is to eat with your hands!! Also how come the Howard location is gone on google maps?!? Is it tala now? Are they trying to avoid addressing the BlogTO article? Everything is so sus
Fresh authentic food, very satisfying!
Its a really nice place . Good food and very friendly staff.
Good food. Friendly staff. Great experience overall.
This is a cozy little restaurant serving authentic Philippine foods. Server is very friendly, we ordered kamayan for two with milk fish , butter garlic rice on the bottom is very tasty and it is unlimited refill. Also ordered pork sisig, very nice, just portion wise is a bit small. Deserts we got leech flan and a drink, both of them are overly sweet for me. Compared to before, their price is almost doubled, but still a nice place .
Food is good but they don t pick up the phone often if they re busy. I m lucky they did pick up the phone that day. It saved me from waiting for too long. Delicious food.
Food quality at Bathurst is much worse than the one in downtown. Fish, pork, chicken and lady s fingers are burned. Shrimps are not fresh. BTW, did google maps move the reviews and pictures of the downtown location to here? How come the location in downtown now has only 5 reviews.
Ordered longsilog via Uber Eats and it came in this little pizza box and it was neatly placed and made sure to cover the bottom with foil so the oil doesnt seep through. I found the food to be kinda bland. There wasnt enough seasoning on the garlic rice nor the eggs. Ive had other longsilog at other places and they were packed with flavour..not sure if they just rushed my order..
I had some a great time here! We got the kamyan feast! The food was all very delicious, and the rice was unlimited! It was a lot of fun to eat with our hands. You also dont need to have a minimum party number to enjoy the feast! Its $25 per person so you can even enjoy this as a smaller group! I felt that the fried dessert could have been more freshly made. Overall I really enjoyed the experience!
The food was delicious. I loved the garlic butter rice. Even though it is gimmicky, I think that everything tasted better served on a banana leaf.
Great food
nice place eat. enjoyed it
I saw this place on TikTok and absolutely had to try it. It was my first time trying Filipino food, and I loved it. Although the flavors werent all that strong, the portion size was really good for their price (around 25 per person). The rice was unlimited, and the options for seafood were vast. I do not usually eat with my hands, but it does taste better when doing so. My friends and I really enjoyed the vibe on a warm summer day, and we also loved the food. Will go again.
Every interesting experience for people who never had Filipino food where we eat with our hands and everything is shared. The skewer and pork belly were the best.
First time trying Kamayan always wanted to try and it was good I like the presentation and the taste was very flavourful just some meats where a little burnt for my liking. The garlic rice was nice and went well with the fish which was a bit salty. The staff was very friendly and nice.
I wanted to try this restaurant, so I ordered food online at 6pm. It arrived at a decent time 7pm-730pm However, one dish was missing. I called them to ask. They said it was sold out since 2pm daw. They should have called me to inform me. *BEWARE OF ORDERING*, make sure they actually have it. Parang kasi ang scam nya, saying available tapos hindi naman pala...Its so Embarrassing to my guests, as they were expecting that specific dish. I suggest checking out Lechon Republik or Cabalen na lang masarap din at para safe na din.
First time trying Kamayan Feast, and it was a very pleasant experience. The food was great and large portion. I would definitely recommend to try this place
If you re looking for fantastic people to give you the authentic dining from the Philippians, this is the place to be. When I entered with my kids we were immediately greeted with kindness. I explained to them I want my kids to have an authentic experience. They showed us exactly what that would look like. We were joined with another lovely staff who explained to us what the authentic dish would encompass. If you re looking to have your taste buds blown away, this is the place. The rice is so delicious trying to stop eating it is work! My kids fell in love with shrimp here! If you re looking to eat somewhere new and try something different. This is the place to be. When you enter you feel family. This is very hard to do in restaurants, but somehow they have done it! Just thinking of the food right now is making my mouth salivate. Kind people, with great food. This is exactly what you need.
The food was delicious and the service was great. However, the place was not very clean inside. Great place, but needs a little tlc.
I give 5 stars to this restaurant. We are so happy with their kamayan food and my all time favourite Shrimp Sinigang. The owner and the servers have great customer service and their unli garlic rice is well cooked. Thank you Tinuno for tonight s great dinner (June 3, 2023). With love from Hamilton couple
Service is okay but food for a hundred $ not worth the price. Suggesting other pinoy kamayan like in bathurst and wilson
It s okay
Went here for dinner with a big group and the experience of kamayan (eating with your hands) was great. The food was pretty decent. The garlic rice was very tasty and we liked the BBQ pork skewers and milk fish. The tilapia was a little burnt and the shellfish was fine. Make sure to order the calamansi juice fresh - it was just so refreshing and tasty.
Worst customer service ever! Booked a reservation online, and we were late for 15 minutes. When we arrived at the restaurant they booked us to the back which was a dark area (no lights). There were still 5 empty tables. My cousin asked if we could move to a different table with more lights. The server told us it s already been reserved and they will come right after our reservation, she even said they called and reserved closer to the window. We stood there thinking, but the server said we can t do anything with the table and said Take it or leave . We went back to our seats, and 10 seconds after we seated the server came and ask Are you ready to order We said we were not ready, another 30 seconds passed she came again asking Are you ready to order We said we re not ready yet, she then came back the 3rd time after 20 seconds saying are you ready to order we said not yet, and she replied, you only have 2 hours reservation . We were anxious about them being pushy to order and felt we were not welcome so we end up leaving. When we were leaving the server said You guys were late anyway . Wanted for my family to experience kamayan, never going back to this place again. They think highly of themselves. If I could give negative rating I would do it.
Kamayan!!! Deliciously prepared Filipino food! Come with at least 3 of your friends! The more the merrier bbq pork, garlic fried rice, pompano, milkfish, and tilapia grilled fish, pork belly etc. all on banana leaves. It s the best!!! I ve come at least once a month pick up fried pompano, tilapia or Bangus fish, pakbet and bbq, for dinner at home.
Hand boodle fight
dont order your food here it is so disgusting! costumer service is poor!
Very yummy boodle fight for occasions
I came here to catch up with my friends and we got seated right away. The service was quick and we got seated right away. The food was amazing and since the rice was unlimited we all left super full. If you want to try some delicious filipino food this place is definitely worth it!
Good food. 25$ per person and unlimited rice. A good deal. Service was quick and amazing as well. Downsides: they dont split the bills. They dont have any tissue on the table. Washroom was broken. 8/10
Pork skewers were good. All other grilled seafood was flavoured with charcoal Parking: Gotta park elsewhere, the parking lot is tiny Food : 2/5 |
The food was absolutely delicious!
Came here with family and the food exceeded my expectations! So Delicious!
Heres a filipino restaurant along Bathurst a few blocks south of Wilson Avenue. The place is cozy with nice service crew. Perfect for an early evening dinner with a good ambiance atmosphere. Parking is a challenge because of the small lot.
I am so glad this place is still around. Made reservations on our way from Montreal so I could take my partner and some friends. The food is so tasty and the staff just lovely. We ordered the Kamayan (duh!) And fried pork belly. Everything was delicious. Dont forget to pre-order the Turróns!
Very special food and way to eat, yummy yummy
Delicious halo halo! The restaurant also sells various filipino snacks! The staffs were very friendly as well :)
It s ridiculous how overcooked the fish was throughout!!!! The pork, milkfish and tilapia were unpalatable. The rice didn t smell like garlic rice anymore. The quality dropped so much in the past few years. STOP GOING THERE ANY MORE.
Satisfied with the overall quality of food here. Amazing work.
Had the Kamayan here and it was delicious. There is unlimited garlic fried rice with it and the portions of meat and seafood were perfect. Everyone working there was very friendly. Great experience and I cannot wait to come back!
I ordered a takeout. It was so yummy. My children and I enjoyed it to the max. Will definitely recommend it. Go in groups. Kid-friendliness: Kids love it cause you get to eat it as a family and with your HANDS!!! its an amazing experience. For all.
Really good food and service here! Love the variety and authentic culture!
The portions have changed. Its not as much food as before.
The food was yummylicious.
Very unique authentic filipino dining experience. A small restaurant with many tables, there is a lot of choice in the menu. We ordered the shared dish with (unlimited) garlic rice, grilled meats, fish, grilled veggies, pork belly, mango salad, and this was all plated and served in front of us on the gigantic banana leaf. Very impressive and tasty. Would come back for the other dishes to try in the future.
If you havent tried their Kamayan, run there now, dont walk.
We ordered a Boodle Fight/ Kamayan Feast (delivery) for 4 people for $120 and what do we get? Iisang pusit? Same as you ll get if you get the Kamayan Feast for two! Five pieces of mussels? All I can say is their boodle fight for 4 is not for 4, and is definitely not worth $120! Thank you!
TINUNO did late-night food catering for our wedding. I had a great experience working with Cathy and her team. They prepared lumpia, chicken inasal, and pancit with pork belly- it was all beautifully presented and delicious. Our group ate it all up, you could see people dancing and eating bbq chicken at the same time. I can t wait to go back to the restaurant for their sit down kamayan meal! Vegetarian options: The veggie lumpia were also a hit! Thanks for accommodating our vegetarians.
Delicious food as usual.
Great place if you want to try Filipino food. If you have a group you can get the authentic experience with their kamayan. Halo halo is also a must try.
Tinuno, located in Little Manila, has an authentic Filipino experience of the Kamayan/Boodle Fight (eating with your hands). We have been here several times at the downtown location before and this location is consistent with food, quality and service. This location has more space, better seating arrangement and limited parking in the front (about 4-5 tops). Make sure to reserve as it gets really busy! We went for the Kamayan experience where they have banana leaves laid on the table and dished out all the food on top. Our group ordered both the Kamayan and the Supersilog. The Kamayan has milkfish, tilapia, squid, shrimp, mussel, pork belly, pork skewer, okra, eggplant, mango salad and garlic rice. The Supersilog has beef tapa, hot dog, milkfish, longanisa, tuyo (fish), spam, egg, atchara (pickled papaya), and taho (tofu dessert). You can request for more garlic rice if you need to but there is so much to sharing with your group. You can also order more appetizers as well like lumpia (variation of spring rolls) and lechon (roasted pork) as well. They also have 2 locations total in Downtown (St. Jamestown area/Howard St) and Little Manila (North York area/Bathurst St). Note, there is a convenient location closer to Downtown but a more slightly smaller menu option (doesnt offer the supersilog and a few appetizers available at Little Manila location).
Food was good overall and portions were generous. Offers unlimited garlic rice which is a definite plus. Milkfish was cooked well but the Tilapia was overcooked and quite charred in some places. Chicken skewers and the pork were really good. Service was friendly and good, but it was hard to track down staff for requests. The restaurant itself is pretty nice, however I found it somewhat difficult to eat at the booth seats because it was too low and far away from the table. The chairs are much better. I also do not know if they have a functional washroom on site.
The food was good, except the fish was so bitter due to overgrilling. Even I removed the skin already, it still tasted very bitter.
Delish!
Great food. No service. They sit u down, drop off your food...and you never see anyone ever again. No one asks if you need anything or how your food is. We were the ONLY ones there. I had to look for someone to pay. I left my table, had my coat on, passed by the staff..waited at the entrance and I had to ask how and where do I pay?. Maybe thats the vibe, but pretty sad to see. Not somewhere Id bring a friend trying to introduce them to filipino food. Doesnt feel like a welcoming place
I recently tried the Kamayan feast and Lechon kawali at this restaurant. I found the Lechon kawali and the pork skewers to be undercooked as the pork was pink in the middle, not meeting my expectations for doneness. While the flavors were decent overall, the undercooked pork was a downside.
Boy has this place gone downhill! It used to be very good and now they deliver burnt food. Such a shame that they have the guts to charge you $60+ for a meal with meat burnt darker than a black cat (you cannot eat this and have to throw it out). Also, portions have decreased considerably. Ordered the kamayan feast for 2 and still pretty hungry afterwards. I do not recommend anymore. (Saturday November 25, 2023)
Amazing food and services, my employees also enjoy their food every time we set a meeting on their location. Good job team Tinuno. Food
We ordered 2 Kamayan and fresh kalamansi. If only they are not too far from home, we might come here every weekend LoL They will give us more rice for free if we want. The restaurant and parking space is quite limited but the food is so much worth it to wait a little bit and to eat close to another table.
Went for the boodle fight. Our favorite was the pork belly and skewers. Garlic fried rice was decent, wish it was more fried. Fish was burnt though.
Had no idea they opened a location here. Its just as good as I remember, the last time I had it was downtown at least five years ago. The kamayan is $25 per person, and we had 9 people. It is more than enough food and great value for the price, and you can get unlimited rice if you need. My favorite items were the pork skewer, pork belly and garlic rice. I liked one of the fishes more than the other, but Im not sure which of the two it was. The other one was pretty bony and took some work to eat. I was told that I reeked of garlic after the meal, but it was worth it.
Parking: Limited parking on the street during the week. Food
Great service and great food. Thank you so much!
I ve come here for the kamayan feast with my family, and always order the bbq silog (which is my favourite lunch/dinner combo. They offer great portion sizes, super friendly staff & atmosphere, and great prices. Will always come back!! Parking: The parking lot is often very full and a tight squeeze, but you can pay $2 and park at the grocery store parking lot next door
