Since opening, Fresco’s Fish & Chips has used the highest quality oil available. Low in saturated fat, FRY-ON…ZTF is a unique blend of healthy canola and corn oils that are non-hydrogenated. Containing 0 grams of trans fat per serving, it allows you to enjoy flavorful fried food in a much healthier way.
The best atmosphere at the Yellow Submarine, and the best poutine I’ve ever had in my life! I’m so happy I took the tour with Chopsticks and Forks. The vibe is amazing!
Their Quebec style poutine alone is definitely one of the best in the city and highly recommend it if you are in the mood for a solid poutine at a cheap price. Their fish and chips aren't too bad either and are not super oily.
I came to this location when they first opened. I always like the fish and chips here as I love the extra batter you can put on it. I don't like the dark fries as I much prefer golden fries but, they don't take special request as I have tried. I ordered the two piece Haddock with extra crispy Miss Vickie's batter and chips. The people that work here are nice but, every now and then. I included a picture but, I ate first as I was more hungry then I expected. Golden Fries would have made this meal a solid 5 star but, its not the worst fries just not the fries I love.
We tried the cod, haddock, and halibut fish and chips. The halibut was my favorite! Food was delicious overall, but the fries were a bit salty.
I recently visited this charming establishment during a tour of Kensington Market. The place has a unique and interesting vibe, with Beatles posters adorning the walls, reflecting the owner's passion for the band. The staff was friendly, and the poutine was absolutely delicious. A delightful spot for Beatles fans and food lovers alike!
This is a small shop in the heart of Kensington Market offering takeout, dine in as well as outdoor seating. Also the first Toronto restaurant that got the Ocean Wise seal of approval for offering sustainable seafood. Ordered the haddock and chips which came in a newspaper container and it was just right. Not too much batter but still crispy courtesy of crushed Miss Vickie's chips and no oily residue. It comes with a tartar sauce and coleslaw. The chips were perfectly fried and to our liking. We also tried their Po Boy sandwich but not a fan since I had the best in New Orleans. The wait time for order is reasonable and friendly staff. Worth trying if you're in the Kensington Market area.
Went here for lunch and it wasn’t busy. We had heard some very good things about this restaurant and hubby and I have been searching for good fish and chips. They didn’t let us down! The staff was very friendly and helpful. They greeted us with a smile and gave good recommendations. We ordered the Halibut and I have to say it was the right choice. It wasn’t overly battered. It was a good fish to batter ratio. The chips were perfection. Made in house and fresh cut. What more could we ask for? And! They served creamy tartar sauce not in the package but in a small container on the side. It tasted fresh and was possibly made in house. We will definitely be back and it was worth the drive here!
My favourite fish and chips place that has been a Kensington Market institution in Toronto. We have been coming for years. It’s a must visit every time we are in the area. We love their fish and chips, whether it’s cod or haddock with the Miss Vickies breading. We also like to order the Fish, Shrimps and chips combo. The service is always friendly and there’s plenty of seats including a front patio area when the weather is good. The only small blemish that I can say is that prices have risen like everywhere else. If you haven’t been yet, this is a must.
Food was delicious, looked to me like the fish was made to order. Gluten free batter available was good, and a nice option for the gluten averse in our lives. Dietary restrictions: Gluten Free batter for shrimp and fish
Have come on a couple occasions now being close to home, and have not been disappointed! Definitely worth the visit each time!
Best restaurant in Toronto. We come here on all our dates. If this place closed we literally would move to a different city. No hyperbole.
Great decor, love the Beatles stuff everywhere! I can recommend both the Cod Po Boy and the Haddock meal as both were VERY tasty :)
Best place ever Mike that owns the place awesome guy helped me out when I had nothing and while my daughter was in her mothers belly she loved it and still loved it until the age of 10 awesome place
Ordered on Uber, got the buy one get one 2 piece cod and chips, only received one order. Plus the cod was doughy. Fries mediocre. Not so great experience.
Really enjoyed the fish and chips along with the clam chowder!
Gluten free fish and chips. SOLID.
Pretty good for Toronto.
So amazingly good! Never ate such a fresh and tasty fishnchips! 100% worth visiting.
The best atmosphere at the Yellow Submarine, and the best poutine I ve ever had in my life! I m so happy I took the tour with Chopsticks and Forks. The vibe is amazing!
Best fish and chips in the city. The service is amazing, Tam in particular was so helpful!
This used to be a tiny takeout with a handful of seats. Now it has expanded seating inside and a liquor license. Still has patio seating at the sidewalk entrance. For an eat-in establishment it seemed dark and a tad dingy. The kitchen is fully open to the dinning area and it too looks well used and greasy. Frescos is not the poster child of fish & chips but what it lacks in decor and upkeep it delivers to the plate as the fish & chips is brilliant. Lovely to wash it down with a pint of Guinness. This place is busy so allow time for your order to be prepared. Almost $30 for one order of fish & chips may seem steep in price but the serving is damn near enough to serve two hungry people. I can pack down fish & chips and pints like its nobodys business and I struggled to eat the full order. Frescos upholds proper tradition and pulls no punches. It is a real fish & chips. Delicious and served with the usual suspects. I consider it a treat to eat here. If I owned the joint, Id consider finding a way to polish up the presentation but Id never change the food prep or offering. This place has been in business for some years and has well established itself in the ranks of good eats. So if you want a proper fish & chips these folks have it. If you like fish & chips, Frescos is a must try. If youve never had a proper fish & chips, this would be a fantastic place to break your cherry. Overall 8 out of 10. Not too shabby.
The most delicious poutine Ive ever had. Made Quebec style, with lovely chicken gravy, fresh fries, nice and chewy cheese curds and shavings of smoked meat. I loved the flavor of the smoked meat which wasnt overpowering in the smoke aroma. It reminded me a touch of roast beef, also bacon. Id go back in a heart beat. Decor is a tribute to the Beatles, Merseyside and England me. As someone who went to uni in Liverpool, it resonated in part. Loved the memorabilia, and the murals
Onion rings are excellent, like A&W style, sprinkle a little black pepper on em & elevate! Fish & chips are fresh & crisp! Well packaged which is the final touch that made this delivery well recieved! Thanks fresco! for attention to detail. My first time & not going to be the last;) Vegetarian options: Onion rings!
delicious food. We ordered the seafood halibut, fried and calamari. Everything was delicious. Thank you, keep up the great job.
NOT recommended at the price; What used to be a cheap and cheerful institution has more than doubled its prices since its opening, but doesnt seem to have meaningfully improved its improved its product, and while the fish and chips is a fine respresentative, its not 32$ for a beer and combo good. Surrounded by cheaper restaurants cooking fantastic foods, it is regrettably hard to recommend this place I used to love.
Staff were nice and friendly. I tried the 5 Alarm Poutine, the staff did ask and warn me that its really spicy prior to me ordering it. Honestly, the fries were proper, the small bowl had an okay amount of cheese. I felt there wasnt much gravy to be honest. My overall feedback here is that I personally dont think the 5 Alarm Poutine should be a menu item. Maybe a cool hidden item or secret hack for people who want spicy. The poutine was just hot without much of a flavor. I still enjoyed it, but definitely a first and last for the 5 Alarm.
love these fish n chips
Food was average, the tartare doesnt taste homemade. Service was good, atmosphere very generic Kensington market
Always so good everytime. This is one of the only places I can get gluten free fish and chips and its delicious. The workers are always very kind and helpful.
Haddock and fries were very good. Good portion of fish and fries for $19. Quick service.
Excellent fish and chips! Very kind welcome. Great discovery.
Great place to have a cold one with delicious thin light script battered fish. Reasonable price and a generous portion.
Great stop. Delicious fish and chips, July 2017.
Great quality at a good price. As an east coaster, I can be pretty picky about a good Fish & Chips. I dont need anything too upscale its Fish & Chips, after all but it cant be low quality either. This place strikes the perfect balance- a classic style fish and chips place with a good selection of fish options and good chips. It is my favorite fish & chips place in Toronto so far.
The food is great and the owner was friendly, but during our meal homeless people kept coming in asking the staff for water and going around the tables asking us for food. The place could use some more security.
I should have known better. Never order poutine at a fish and chips place. Dont order 5 alarm poutine unless you can handle the heat. It was spicey but even so probably the worst that I have had in my visit to Canada. I tried some of the wifes that was regular and it was disappointing. Not flavorful. But, like I said, it was my fault. I should have ordered fish and chips.
Delicious fish&chips but the place is pretty shabby!
If I could give 0 stars I would. They cancelled an order that we made 6 hours ahead of time. No explanation given, and not alerted by any means other than the app (which sent no notifications). It was past time of delivery/dinner for our kids on Easter Friday when we opened the app to figure out where our food was. We have no explanation and when we went on the website all the food we ordered was still available (nothing was sold out) and we live within the delivery area. We tried calling and nothing. Super disappointed and won t be ordering from them again. Will stick with Sea Witch next time - they re clearly much better.
The food is great, and the restaurant is situated in a beautiful multicultural place. The view is GOOD!
This is a review from before the lockdowns. I had been in a couple of times before. This time went with three other people, and I had to ask them to turn off the obscene, vulgar, racist (n-word) rap music. While we were eating, they suddenly turned it on again for a few seconds and then turned it off when they noticed we were still there. What goes through the heads of employees who think theyre at a club listening to this filth while adult guests are paying $20 for a piece of fried fish with fries? That and the ultra brightness of the lights in the place and the lack of general cleanliness is a big turn off. It gives the feeling that they make it too uncomfortable to want to stay for any length of time, just pay, eat and get out so the next customers can sit down. I know this place has been there for a long time, but theres much better fish and chips to eat than here.
Frescos been a solid rock to the community of Kensington for many of years, and it always provides good service with the legendary Beatles decor. Also non discrimatory and has amazing diner food of fish and chips.
High-quality fish and chips in kensington. A nice summer lunch spot. We really liked the cod and haddock fish n chips! The themed newspaper was a nice touch.
One of the most terrific fish & chips places in the city! It s cozy with lots of the Beatles posters & signages. The food is absolutely delicious! We ordered haddock & it was so fresh. The fries & tartar sauce were also great. The staff are so friendly & inviting! I love this place and highly recommend it
We tried the Cod, Haddock and Halibut Dinners ranging in price up to $25. The Halibut was amazing, the Haddock was very good and the Cod was good. Dinner came with Tartar Sauce, a small serving of Coleslaw and a big serving of fries. Restaurant is clean, had Beatles music playing in the background and the service was fast, friendly and efficient. Bonus was a full selection of the Pop Shoppe pop to select from also they are LLBO so Beer and Coolers available.
Just ordered from them for the first time, (haddock & chips also Crab cakes with battered mushrooms) was fantastic, great food and will be ordering again
Always a pleasure stopping by at Fresco s! Great spot for fish and chips. Owner is always happy and friendly. Little to no wait time for our food too! The halibut and fries were so crispy there was a crunch in every bite. Huge portions as well! So come hungry:) Can t wait to be back soon!
Halibut fish was light and delicious. Impressed with the first bitse. Big portions, split with husband.
We love the place, the owner is so friendly and welcoming everyone with a smile. I yhink its the best fish n chips in the city try the halibut!
The size of the fish is too small. I have been visiting here for a long time. But these days fish and chips size too small. Especially haddock and chips.
Really good old school fish and chips, in an old school restaurant. Great for take out too. Large portions, one order can easily be shared by two, or half saved for tomorrows lunch! Super friendly service.
the cod fish and chips was awesome, the batter was crispy and the fish was flaky and filling. highly recommend!
It was delicious.
Mike has been running this joint passionately for as long as I can remember. This is the best tasting fish and chips shop I ve been to in this country, hands down! Haddock, Halibut or Cod are the main stays here but if you re lucky you might find other fare during season. The batter is always crispy and the fish tender and juicy. There s also the upgraded version with Ms. Vickie s thrown into the batter. The menu used to feature a variety of Po Boys too - I m not sure what the current status is but please go check out this eatery. If you re lucky, Mike may be blasting his Beatles records while you re there.. trust me, it s a theme.
This is THE BEST PLACE to try fish & chips. Crunchy + fresh + delicious + good portion. The service there is AWESOME :)
From the moment I stepped in, I felt very welcome and friendly vibes. Frescos is a Kensington mainstay in the heart of the village, across from the park. I had the fried cod and chips to take away. The meal comes with 2 pieces of fish, freshly fried, tartar sauce, coleslaw and a lemon wedge, on top of a heap of chips (french fries). Its a classic combo - which is plenty! The batter is light and crispy, and it takes about 10 mins to cook. If I were to critique, Id say the coleslaw fell a little flat and lacked seasoning. Maybe more mayo, salt or vinegar, I think. Ill definitely come back, as there are other menu items Ill try, like the fish chowder and lobster bites. Note to other reviewers: shrinkflation is happening across the restaurant sector as prices for produce continue to soar. So lets focus on the quality, rather than the portion size. I found the portions enough for me, but I think some diners have become accustomed to a sheet of fish draped over the sides of a platter, but those days are gone.
Can t believe it took me this long to try this place but I m glad I did! Tried their poutine which was delicious and reminds me of Quebec style poutine. Their crab cakes were delicious and the chips were great too. Would highly recommend if you re craving some good crab cakes and poutine!
Not that special. For the price I was expecting more but it wasnt that special. Many pubs have better fish and chips than this place. The fries were stale too.
Easily among the best fish and chips in town! The owner is very friendly and gave excellent service. Fresh, hot, neither too greasy nor over-battered and generous portions.
Quiet place off the busy Spadina Avenue serving fresh and delicious food
Amazing fish and chips! 10/10 definitely recommend !
Was walking around with my friend trying to find something to eat and stay warm from the cold and decided to try Frescos. I am so happy we stopped in and ate here. The food was delicious!! The owner was so sweet and kind to both me and my friend. He came over and asked us about the food and made sure we were happy. I wish I lived closer to eat here more often. 100% recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves great food :) **We both ordered the haddock and shrimp special.
Food was great, service was somehow even better! Perfect!
A lovely place to go, and very lovely people who work!!!we are from france, its the best poutine ever!!the man who cooked and served us was so very nice and can talk french to!!! Waiting to eat poutine next year when we back to toronto at fresco!!
Great taste and made to order.
Though I am a chef in this city, I just didnt love fish and chips until I found Frescos. The tiny lil fish joint in Kensington with all the Beatles stuff... Im absolutely stoked to still be a supporter years later. Thanks for relocating to a space with more seating area!!! Now I dont feel bad sitting Longer to appreciate my fresh fish, thick crisp fries, and that miss Vickies salt vinny crunchy batter. I know it was a labour of love to invent. Appreciate all the great service, love and energy yall put into Frescos. See ya this week ;)
Not many fish and chip joints in the city. This spot is great! First time trying it and he offered me the salt and vinegar miss Vickie batter (my favourite chips) I tried it and loved it!
If you want fish and chips, come here. The fluffy fried fish carefully prepared by the friendly old owner is delicious.
Enjoyed my meal here. However fish and chips came up to over $30. Pretty pricey for a simple meal.
This is as good as it gets for fish and chips. Owner is super friendly and the place is big and casual. Great place to take kids, we will be back.
Excellent food ,service and price
We were walking around the Kensington market, starving, we re craving fish and chips. Lucky enough found this spot, and we were not disappointed. Super friendly staff and good vibes, GREAT choice of music, who doesn t like to listen to Phil collins and Beatles at lunch, Beatles records and posters were everywhere. Pretty clean I d say. They serve beer and Caesar. The food was pretty good. There s an atm if you re into paying cash. Over all good experiences!
Highly recommend the Miss Vickys extra crispy batter on their haddock. Was delicious!
Arrived not long after opening, service was friendly and quick, poutine was hot and tasty. All good
Expensive, dirty run down place. Wont send a dog here. Reviews and posted prices were misleading. Better places for your money. Spent 50.00 on cheap filets.
Love this place, great food, great employees. The Beatles theme is pretty sweet too.
Very nice classic fish and chips
WORSE PLACE, I HAD THE REGULAR PUTIN AND NOT MUCH OF CHEESE AND HAIR INSIDE, NOT SAFETY, BAD RECEPTION and OWNER IS SO IRRITATING AND PRICE TOO HIGH, NEVER WANT TO GO.... BAD WORKING PEOPLE, SO LOUD OLD MUSIC
The place is not bad by any means, the staff are friendly and the food isnt bad. But thats exactly it, its not bad. Nothing to rave about like the reviews may convince you of but also not a bad spot to stop and grab a bite to eat.
Excellent fish and chips
Best fish and chips in town
Everyone should try the Crab Cake Poboy, a Kensington staple
Chicken is good, but its very overpriced
After a bookstore near the ROM, we took a tram over to the iconic Kensington Market for dinner. After a few misses, we ended up at Frescos Fish and Chips. The spacious casual restaurant was decorated like a Beatles fan club and smelled like a London chippy. We shared a sampler platter, fried pickles, crab cake, and everything was batter-covered deliciousness particularly the shrimp. There was a discount for paying in cash, but we used card, which was half the reason we chose this place. Great place to rest and warm up with tasty fried food. We had an early dinner on chilly Friday evening in late February, had the place to ourselves, multiple pickup orders.
Hands down my favorite fish & chips spot in Toronto, absolutely delicious. Their onion rings were also amazing and that s not even my usual choice. Don t forget to ask your fish miss vickie s extra crispy ! I love the old dining style and it s just in the entrance of Kensington, where the fun is. Love it!
The food was great and the owner is a very nice dude!
Yummy fish and chips! Thanks Michele
First of all Id be remiss not to mention that the negative reviews saying how expensive the product is = Balderdash! These peeps obviously do not eat out much - Folks the price of everything has increased considerably - do please dont rain on a restaurant for that reason. We loved it - first time but not our last 100%
Overall taste of fish & chips was flavourful; however, the oil taste a bit old. It was a good deal for two filets and tons of fresh fries. Just a bit disappointed at the kale salad, portion was too small for $8 and the sunflower seeds were stale. Pretty cozy restaurant and kids friendly.
The owner was super kind and the food was amazing!! Highly recommend
Great staff and good food!
Best fish in the city! A destination spot. Get the kale salad and 2 piece haddock.
Order: Haddock and chips The plain batter was delicious! My friend got the Mrs Vickis version which she loved as well. I will stick to classic. Just delicious. Wish the fish size was a bit bigger. Staff was so friendly and funny! Definitely will come back. Dietary restrictions: Halal - No Beer in Batter - Verbal confirmation
Best fish and chips in Toronto. Really friendly staff too!
The fish and chips are so good all the staff for excellent its very clean while maintained I really like that has accessible way to get in the owner is fantastic 100% stars all the way around the food is excellent and the prices are not bad for what you get you will definitely enjoy the fish and chips at frescos theres also lots of more yummy food
First time in Toronto and was taken by my gfs cousin to Frescos. Food was amazing and service. Would highly recommend the fish and chips.
Had chicken sandwich superb
Poutine was pretty good. Ratio of gravy and curds to fries was alright. But needed just a little more gravy to have some with every bite. Bonus: cheap cans of beer.
First time. Excellent fish & chips. We noticed much Beatles memorabilia, framed on the walls. We commented on it, and the person who served us (assumed to be the business owner) told us hes a big fan. Then, he put on a playlist of Beatles music. Wonderful experience. Will go back.
Excellent, perfect very warm welcome. Thank you, we really liked it, we had a blast!
Excellent fish and chips. Had the cod. Batter was nice and crispy even following delivery. Came with lemon, tartar sauce and coleslaw which were all very tasty. Also ordered the seafood chowder which was excellent!
It was so good Ill come back again for sure
The fish and chips exceeded my expectations. Really yummy!
Best fish and chips of the city
Great food little pricy though
Fantastic fish and chips! And great, friendly service!
This is one of the best fish and chips place, if not the best. I met this place back in 2014 by a recommendation from a local. Now I revisited it on 2023 and it still kept the quality and awesome taste, I super recommend to give it a try when in Toronto.
Got myself calamari and chips. The fries were very slightly overdone, but I was offered a fresh replacement for them (I refused the offer). Delicious.
This is as perfect as fish and chips can be. The serving portions are also huge, so you get what you pay for. Would definitely recommend!
Wow! We had the fish and kale. Both were delish!! You didnt even need tarter sauce!
Best fish and chips in the city..
Absolutely amazing!!! I m from Costa Rica and the food was amazing! Great service
Proper Fish & Chips spot that were glad to have discovered! Highly recommend the old school gravy for your fries with a piece of two of Halibut
I recently visited a fish and chips place that caught my attention, thanks to its positive reviews and inviting ambiance. While overall, it was a decent experience, there were a few aspects that left something to be desired. Upon arriving, my friends and I were disappointed to learn that the calamari, a dish we had been eager to try, was not available that day. Nevertheless, we decided to proceed and explore the other offerings on the menu. The haddock fish and chips we ordered were alright, but in all honesty, we have had better fish and chips elsewhere in town. The fish lacked that perfect crispness and freshness that we were hoping for, but it was still satisfying enough to satiate our cravings. Despite the average fish and chips, the standout element of the meal was undoubtedly the fries and poutine. These were absolutely the best part of our dining experience. The fries were impeccably fresh and had a delightful crunch to them. The poutine, in particular, was exceptional, with rich gravy and perfectly melted cheese curds. It left us wanting more, and we couldnt help but keep going back for additional bites. In terms of the atmosphere, the restaurant was relatively quiet during our visit, with no other patrons present. It was evident that we had arrived later in the day, which may have contributed to the lack of a bustling ambiance. However, the staff was attentive and friendly, ensuring that we had a pleasant dining experience. While our first visit to this fish and chips place had its ups and downs, I believe there is potential for improvement. Although the haddock fish and chips were not exceptional, the outstanding fries and poutine gave us hope that the establishment could deliver on other fronts as well. I would recommend trying this place again, perhaps earlier in the day when the freshness and variety of options are at their peak. Overall, this fish and chips place has the potential to be a top-notch dining spot. With some adjustments to the fish preparation and availability of menu items, they could become a go-to destination for fish and chips lovers.
Got takeout today, been wanting to try it for a while. This is fish done right! Go have a taste, the halibut is a bit more than the regular cod/haddock but well worth it. Got a great selection of brews/sodas as well. You ever see Japanese masters grilling fish over charcoal, and they do it over and over until they perfect it? This is the same but for fried fish. Sounds simple but it s not! Try it for yourself, you won t regret it. By the way, if you re a mushroom lover like me, get their fried mushrooms. It s really damn good with what seems like housemate tartar sauce!
Great staff :) great place
As someone who s been to Newfoundland 5 time in their life, this is hands down the best fish & chips in Toronto. Fantastic food, and fantastic service
So in the restaurant s defense, we ordered delivery. I would have hoped that a place that specializes in fried food would be good at packaging fried food. I was wrong. I m sure the food is great at the restaurant but this is definitely not a delivery kind of joint. We had fish and chips and crab cakes and the fish and chips were like they went through a dish washer. Soggy and gross.
Good poutine and fish and chips.
After way to much walking around today we stopped in Frescos. My wife and I ordered the Haddock Fish and Chips and a small Smoked Meat Poutine. Wish I took pictures, but to hungry to make that happen. Both dishes were great, and would definitely recommend.
Both the Fish and the Chips are done right at this Kensington staple. Food and portions are great for the price considering the great quality of fish and ingredients used here. We ordered the haddock - the fish was flakey and tender and the batter was light, super crispy, and not oily. Good fish to batter ratio and their tarter sauce went perfectly with it. The fresh cut fries/chips are also the perfect accompaniment to your meal and are amazing on their own, in a poutine, or dipped in tartar sauce. Highly recommend the poutine as its some of the best you can get in Toronto. They also have a wide selection of sandwiches/po boys, salads, desserts, and other fries seafood, so theres sure to be something for everyone here. One slight thing to keep note of is there can sometimes be some sketchy people hanging around or inside, so just be careful with the hours you go and who you are with, but as long as your mindful it should never be an actual issue. Overall highly recommend and one of the best spots in the city for fish and chips!
Great fish and chips, great service, good prices. Love the Beatles decor.
Delicious halibut, Beatles tunes, and exceptional service this fish and chip shop exceeded our expectations!
25 dollar plate, Overpriced, fries overcooked, halibut portion is about size of a finger .we were regular customers,..but no more.. Very disappointed. Food
They never disappoint. I ve been coming to this place for years ! The Miss Vickie s option on the shrimp and fish is a must. Fries are crispy. I just wish they d bring back the lobster bites. Love them
On par with the best fish and chips in Toronto. Which for me is the Old Yorke. A thick piece of fish with beautiful batter. They have a Miss Vickie s batter which is good but I like the classic beer batter. For all you Halibut snobs, Haddock is better.
The halibut fish is not greasy and flavourful. The poutine tastes wonderful. Fresh cheese curds. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian gravy
They only accepted cash or specific debit cards, which they didnt inform us about beforehand. We only had a Visa card. When we tried to pay with it after ordering, they suddenly declined. We couldnt make a purchase and considered leaving. However, they claimed theyd already begun preparing our order and wouldnt allow us to change our minds. Feeling uncertain, we thought about asking our friends in Canada to pay for us online. Before they could respond, the restaurant reluctantly agreed to accept our Visa credit card. It seemed they werent transparent about their payment options. As a visitor, I cant recommend this place. Other Taiwanese restaurants are more straightforward and welcoming.
It s the best in the city hands down. Just go try it yourself you will see.
Best calamari in the city. Fresh and delicious, plus great service !!
Best fish and chips.. great service..
One of the best Fish and Chips in the are, I like the cod with seafood chowder.
Fish and salad were great. Sampled food here as part of food tour. Staff were very friendly.
Hands-down the best fish and chips in the city. Always fresh with generous portions and the store is just a fun spot. Beatles memorabilia and posters everywhere. If you like fish and chips, this is definitely your spot.
Excellent fish and chips in Toronto at the Kensington Market. French fries are massive. They love the Beatles here. Good price as well.
Great food and service with a smile and super awesome classic tunes playing :)
I love fish and chips and I believe I have tried most of the fish and chips place in Toronto. I still keep coming back to Fresco! Adding the **Miss Vicky s batter** is a must !!! So goood !!! My super picky mom loves it too ! Also they play Beatles .. loving the old school vibe in this busy city :)
We went to this restaurant because it was one of the top rated fish and chips places and the ratings were correct. Best calamari ever. So many restaurants overcook it and batter it beyond recognition. That is not the case here. Lightly battered and perfectly cooked. We also had two pieces of halibut and fries. Tons of fries for two. Halibut is also properly cooked with a light batter. Great service. The restaurant is clean and cool. Lots of room to eat in or eat out. This will be our go-to place for Fish and Chips.
Best fish and chips ive ever had. The workers were extremely kind and the envirement is extremely welcoming and safe. I think of this place when i think of heaven on earth. I will 100% be coming back here even if its just to talk to the workers. I cant stress this enough but the fish and chips are AMAZING!!
generous portions, love the different poutine varieties as well. not on the cheaper side but ultimately delicious and worth it
Great and friendly staff. Very accommodating. Set inside because the outside could get a bit cramped and it is right next to a park which also can be loud depending on the time of day. The Cod fish and chips is highly recommended.
Truly outstanding fish and chips. I ordered the halibut....coleslaw was also great
Best fish and chips I tried in my life, especially the halibut one, even my 2 year old daughter loves it
No longer the same taste. Quite ordinary.
Order cod fish chips some good
Best fish and chips
Halibut is thick and delicious. The batter is golden and crispy. The chips is classic. If you love fish and chips do not miss Mike s place
True to day one of the best veggie poutine (s) here in Toronto ! I had the Veg chilli poutine and gosh, it was comfort served for $9 ...the portion is exceedingly generous, fries are a godly golden crisp and thick hand cut ? This can easily pass off as gourmet, with a those fresh squeaky cheese curds. Special hat tip to our friendly Sri Lankan server, attentive .. friendly and tossed in a bottle of water just noticing my parched face. Now thats just kind and impressive!
Had a craving for fish and chips, came across Freshco in Kensington Market. Staff was friendly and the service was quick! It was a hot day and we walked (not too far) and they gave me water for my dog while we waited for our food about 10 mins. Food was great! We ordered halibut and haddock with a side order of onion rings which were a crispy golden brown. Thank you so much! Definitely a new go to for fish and chips!
Cheap and cheerful fish and chips shop. The cod fish was made crisp and not too oily. The poutine was solid fill-your-belly fare, with pretty good cheese curds (for outside Quebec). Good classic rock music and ambience.
Very friendly staff. The guy taking my order helped me decide what to get. The shrimps were a jumbo size, fresh and tasted amazing. The cod was tasty as well. The fries were a little soggy and tasteless. I would definitely give this place another try!
BEST Fish & Chips in Toronto !!!! Got the Halibut and it was very tasty, crispy and fair price!! The chips were delicious!! I usually leave the fries but I couldnt stop eating them!! I also did an Instagram review thats how much I enjoyed it!! I took my mom and she loved it, my sister called us while we were there and she was telling her she needs to come and eat there!! The owner was super friendly and accommodating!! He brought us out food to the patio when it was ready!! Its a definite must try!!!! I will definitely go back!!
Super friendly mom-and-pop joint in Kensington with surprisingly affordable, yet high-quality cuts of fish. The fries were also pretty crispy, and everything tasted great! Very generous portions. Looking forward to coming back again.
I was having a rough day today and got hungry so I randomly decided to try this place out and what I can tell you is that my experience here was nothing short of amazing. You can really feel the nice vibe going on the moment you walk into the restaurant. When you make your way to the front counter, youre greeted with a great smile from the owner. The moment you see that smile you know for sure that the food he makes is made with love and attention and he gives you that same love and attention too while youre talking with him and making your order. This experience really turned my day around. The food tasted amazing and the friendliness and smile of the owner and the customers that were also dining in just really set a great mood. I felt the happiness of everyone enjoying what this place has to offer and it was great.
If you ever want to eat fish and chips, if you ever going to Kensington market, even if you have to drive for an hour. Believe me eating fish and chips from Fresco is totally worth it. I have never had something that tasted as good as the fish you would get at Fresco s. the place it self is managed by the Fresco s family and the have there own recipes for the food.
This is my 97978876678 times still BEST.
Crab cakes are out of this world!
Fresh fish and good amount. Worth to try .
Great fish and chips.
The Fish and Chips were piping hot and crisp. The fries are so unique, and crispy throughout. I havent had a soggy fry. It was like opening a parcel: the first layer were the fish, and the last the chips. No space was spared, and every eyeful and mouthful were exploding with a sea of gold. My only gripe was the service of the black woman at the counter. While we were waiting for our take out order, she addressed us like this Hey, HeY, HEEeYYY to get our attention. Excuse me? We arent dogs. The proper way to get a customers attention would be by Excuse Me Miss/Sir/Mam/Mister. Your order is ready. I was taken aback by her lack of basic decency, and how poor her service character was, especially for such a long-standing establishment as Frescos.
What an amazing experience! Really nice and cozy place on a busy Kensington market. Had halibut fish and chips. Perfectly crispy. Amazing service and a smile on the face.
Will definitely be back again. Fabulous halibut, calamari, poutine, and a beer outside on patio on a beautiful fall day. Service exceptional and super fast. French speaking as well.
A great fish & chips shop in the heart of Kensington Market! My dad and I popped in for a late lunch, and we ordered the cod and the haddock + chips (they were sold out of the halibut) and both were excellent (washed down with a classic Coke, and cold Corona). Batter was noteworthy - crispy and light which was a great compliment to the fish - and cooked to perfection. We each tried one piece of fish with the special crunchy coating, which was more akin to a tempura batter and had crumbled kettle cooked chips in it for additional crunch. I d say that s a best-bet it was very crunchy but not overkill at all (definitely ask for it!!!). The side slaw was creamy and tangy - they re not reinventing the wheel on this one and I m just fine with that (it was very good). Tartar sauce was tasty but frankly we enjoyed everything with a simple squeeze of lemon that accompanied the meals. Portion sizes are great, too - if you re hungry the two pieces of fish and chips is sufficient, but I wasn t starved so had half of the chips and one piece of fish, and my sweetheart gladly had my leftovers for dinner. Window seating is optimal to watch the colourful goings on of the neighbourhood (there s also booths and tables inside and picnic tables outside you could also take it to go and eat in the park across the street if that s your jam). Another pair of diners were splitting the calamari and chips and it looked very good - I d try it next time. The man working the counter I d assume was the owner and he was lovely, welcoming, and helpful - the kinda person you d imagine running the local chip shop. There was a steady stream of people coming in and out for food and he knew most of the folks (and they knew him) and it was the kinda vibe that makes you want to return over and over. And if you need a selfie before you leave, pose with the Beatles mural or memorabilia on all the walls - a real nod to UK Beatlemania.
Love there customer service great staff they made it just the way I wanted and I will be going again for the best fish and chips
Ordered the meat chilli poutine and cod fish on the side. Best poutine Ive had in Toronto!! The fish was crisp, light and flaky - it was great with the tartar sauce (Get the Miss Vickys batter!) The atmosphere was warm, service was quick, and the owner was very friendly and helpful. Im glad I came across it
This place has the best coleslaw and fries of any fish & chip place Ive been to. Frescos crab cakes are in a league of their own, theyre just that dang good!
Great service and amazing crisp fish and chips!
Dietary restrictions: The food is great especially the crispy batter for the fish, and they have veggie gravy for vegetarians.
I do not understand how this place is rated so high, feels like people in Toronto don t have taste buds. I had the most disappointing fish and chips of my life, there was no seasoning, no flavour, and the batter was so thick on the fish. Their customer service was super friendly.
Me and my friend were super excited to try this place over the weekend. Cod Fish and Shrimp was ridiculously over battered and under seasoned. Chowder came out super hot but again under seasoned. Poutine was tasty and fries were really great. Hope it was a down day for them.
my wife absolutely loved the Shrimp Po Boy. when shes happy, im happy
Used to work with the owner Mike in a previous career. Had an opportunity to pop in for lunch today with some old friends. You can see how Mike interacts with customers, food is amazing and he has fair prices and a varied menu. Wish I lived closer. But glad I got to visit.
Great fish and chips, maybe the best fries Ive ever had. Right in Kensington, great place for lunch. Will be back!
Best fish and chips of my life. Cakey, fluffy, lemon , beer, eighties music. Just epic amazing place. Owner was amazing.
I had haddock and original poutine. Soooo nice, you can tell the batter is so fresh and crispyyyy!!! I loved it. The poutine is also delicious I would definitely come back to try other fishes and poutines The staff and the owner are both very kind and attentive. Ambiance the Beatles with a full The Beatles playlist!
I love this place! Fish and chips are always great and always give you a heaping serving of fries! The staff are friendly and the ambiance with Beatles memorabilia is great!
It was a Saturday afternoon so it wasnt busy. The food was good and the portions were fantastic. The only problem was the building next door was under massive renovation so it was like dining beside a jet engine (not Frescos fault!).
Excellent fish and chip spot. Food is tasty and very reasonably priced. Staff is mostly friendly. Decor is so-so at best. Absolutely the worst thing about this place is that they dont have real knives and forks. Just plastic ones even when eating in. I dont know how the environmentally friendly folks in The Market havent made them change this stupid practice.
My partner and I ordered the haddock and chips and were nor disappointed. The portions were more than generous and the tartar sauce was amazing. Would definitely go again.
