2638 Danforth Ave, Toronto, ON M4C 1L7, Canada
Popular eatery for traditional fried fish 'n' chips, plus shrimp, scallops & coleslaw.
Best fish and chips I’ve ever had in my life. The halibut is firm and flavorful. Of course they fry using beef tallow and that makes all the difference. Halibut is getting to be expensive but it’s totally worth it.
The food was excellent. The halibut was crispy on the outside, light and fluffy on the inside. Chips could've been crispier but otherwise great overall. One knock on the place is the smell, the kitchen doesn't have a wall and is out in the open, if you can get past the smell the food is excellent.
Absolutely stellar quality fish, batter was extra crispy and the taste of the fryer oil very clean. I like their style of thick, square-cut chips, lightly fried and still fluffy inside. The staff welcomed us warmly on each visit. Went for lunch 2 days in a row; it was that good. Going to try their seafood platter next time.
Really nice fish & chips spot! The lunch special was great. Service was good, atmosphere was nice. For $8.50, you get fish, chips and pop. That's probably the best deal I've seen for fish n chips so far
An interesting spot on the Danforth. Have eaten here a couple times. When I have a craving for good fried fish. They have a variety of deals and a no frills approach. The gravy here is particularly good. They give you unlimited tater sauce when you eat in and the service is fast. My partner and I usually get the house special and split it. It comes with a 8oz halibut, lots of fries, two slices of buttered bread, slaw and a drink. We usually get a side gravy and an extra drink and we are good to go. The prices here I feel are extremely reasonable for the value and potion of food you get. It’s go a dinner style feel to it which is charming.
Amazing spot for old school fish & chips. Great quality and value. Terrific folks running the place. It’s no wonder it’s always so busy— will definitely be back! Only wish they had kids menus
Have been enjoying amazing fish & chips here for the last 8 years now !! It is a family run restaurant with roots in England , so the fish is prepared in a very Yorkshire way, thin batter, crispy on the outside and just the right texture inside. The fries are hand cut and again fried perfectly. Their house tartar sauce is very flavourful . I should be a traditionalist and have Haddock but I enjoy the Halibut a lot ( I guess because I am Canadian!!) . The house special which comes with fish & chips, tea, coleslaw and buttered bread with gravy is quite the meal. The service has always been exceptional, welcoming and with a big smile. The whole team makes sure your visit is satisfying. The restaurant has been going strong since 1929 !!
Had fish & chips at this joint recently and it was bomb! Real authentic, been around for 93 years so you know it's the real deal. Service was good. Highly recommend for any fish & chip lover. Gonna be back for sure!
Excellent as always!
Best fish and chips in Toronto! Worth the trip. Thanks Frank and Deb! Without a doubt, definitely a bucket list worthy destination.
Not impressed, food tasted like it was reheated a few times. Coleslaw tasted old. Maybe end of night food.
Ordered halibut and chips. Halibut is missing, came with Chips. Is this a joke Len Duckworth.
Huge delicious pieces of fish. Great fries. Love their fresh bread.
Huge portion of fries, not the fish. Prices are creeping up but it is not their fault - its societies fault for demanding we have fish is every store on the planet. What happened to fishmongers? We raped the oceans and thats why prices are up. Very nice batter. Not gross, over beer-battered. No beer batter! Someone who knows how to cook! As for atmosphere, its a fish & chips shop, and thats what it feels like - appropriately. You dont have to dress up to eat here.
This place e ys way too over rated and too expensive for what you get Fish was good but chips were not crisp or flavourful - really lacking. Quality and taste is far below that of British style fish n chips on coxwell. This will not be back
Best Fish and Chips in Toronto. Been going there since I was a kid. Food is always amazing and staff are friendly too. Love this place
The food was absolutely great !! good portions and great staff & customer service !! Darlene ( I think that was her name ) was a gem and such wonderful customer service . This is my new to go fish and chip spot The halibut fish with chips coleslaw and butter bread !!:) Good job chef!
Best fish & chips Ive had in the city
Best seafood platter in gtaa
The only proper British chips in toronto
This place has been around for nearly 100 years, tops in the city!
The food here is delicious. We were in and out in no time and we were stuffed afterwards. Definitely go with the halibut and chips! They also have fresh bread & butter which makes a great side.
I don t know what to say. Rode my bike there from Cabbagetown today and was looking forward to it after reading good things. From the outside it looked like an authentic English chippy but as soon as I walked through the door the smell of old (rotten) fish slapped me round the jowls. Many dirty tables too which the guy working acknowledged. I found a seat but had to leave after a couple of minutes as the smell was just too much. Maybe they had just taken the garbage out or opened a bad batch. I ll try another time but today was a let down.
Such a great fish and chips place. The staff are so nice. Highly recommended.
A haiku: Tasty Len Duckworths The most sublime fish n chips Loving every bite The homies and I appreciate you
Ive been wanting to go here for over a year as ive read some reviews and it was in the top 10 of placed to go for fish and chips, i finally managed to get there last week with friends and my sister who had flown over from England for a visit. Theres a slight odd odour to the place when you walk in and no its not the hot oil, and we couldnt put our finger on it. We all mainly ordered haddock/cod chips and poutine. The poutine was awful. The chips were anemic and not crispy, the gravy was decent and the right consistency but the curds where stone cold and just plonked on top, not nice at all. My fish, i felt, was not fresh as it was very watery and the batter just slipped off, it reminded me of a Janes frozen fish that you buy at a grocery store. The coleslaw was ok and our young lady server was lovely. A couple of us used the washroom, which was absolutely disgusting, the smell was gut wrentching, so not sure if there has been an issue with the plumming or that its always like that?? Also theres only banquettes of 4 or 2 to sit at so if your a party of 5 or more then you have to sit seperately. Im glad tried it, but wont be going back.
Ive gone to this family run location thats been in business since just after the depression and has stayed in business because they have the best fish and chips on the planet! Ive been going there for over 40 years and Im absolutely obsessed! Highly recommend
Just as good as always!
The seafood platter is delicious!!!
Love lens fish and chips. Coleslaw is delicious
Lightly battered flaky fish fried to perfection and perfect chips to match
My favorite dish and chips place ever! Its amazing Eat there! NOW Food
Great halibut and chips - thin batter, not oily. Chunky fries. Traditional / Old school in a great way. Ordered mini meal - 3 Halibut, 2 Fries, Bread, Cole Slaw. Friendly no nonsense service. Some staff have been here 40-50 years. Wheelchair accessibility: Couple of customers entered w rollators - street level entrance. Clean toilets are in basement down a number of stairs
This restaurant Smells so bad !!! But be dined in many fish and chips restaurants and they never smell like this ! I couldn t get past the smell. Like dining in a fish market . Fish and chips tasted ok. Nothing special . Coleslaw tasted like celery . Perhaps too much celery seed ? Not a fan .
I visited Duckworths today and I was quite disappointed. The chips were only fried once and some of the larger chips were not well cooked inside. The traditional way is to double fry the chips. The first fry is a quick fry and then the chips are tossed to the side to continue cooking on the inside. When an order comes they are fried for the second time to crisp and brown the outside of the chips thus creating a chip that is fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside. The chips today were greasy on the outside and undercooked inside. I asked for malt vinegar and tartar sauce both which were stone cold. The vinegar had been refrigerated and it was stone cold. Do they think that vinegar needs to be refrigerated? I understand that tartar sauce has to be refrigerated to prevent it going bad, but certainly they could squeeze it into paper cups all the day goes along so that customers dont have to put stone cold tartar sauce on the fish.
Very good quality fish and chips...reasonable prices too. Kid-friendliness: Children definitely welcomed Wheelchair accessibility: They have this
Best fish and chips in the business with the most amazing staff
Been going here for over 5 years and Im happy that theyre here to stay. Food is reasonably priced. You can tell theyre really trying to balance helping their community out and make ends meet. Moat importantly, the fish. Crispy, made to order, and doesnt give you that oily feeling after. They put time, cleanliness, and care in their food and it shows.
Im not one to leave bad reviews, but this one is deserved. We just finished ordering the premium halibut and chips from Uber for $19. This is sold for $17.50 if you go directly through the restaurant. As far as the food is concerned, it was decent, but overall dry. Why do you ask? Apparently, the meal does not come with a tartar sauce unless one explicitly asks for it, something I inadvertently missed doing, and frankly, given how the Ubereats App is set up to take the order, I doubt I have been the only one. That said, why in the world would $19 fish and chips not come with the quintessential tartar sauce that goes hand in hand with all other fish and chip meals on the face of the planet? I hope the restaurant takes this as a productive moment: a side of tartar sauce is a given with fish and chips, without having to make a special request for it (no one is asking for luxuries, just the basics).
Good service and excellent fish and chips. They are a mainstay of the Main and Danforth area.
Has always been an excellent meal, the staff is friendly, and cook it fresh right in front of you, highly recommend it, well worth the visit. Just east of Main St on the Danforth, you wont be disappointed.
Best fish n chips In Toronto
I m really happy we finally went. Haven t had fish and chips for several years - this was the best fish and chips I have had.
Food and servoice are excellent. I go there every week. Kid-friendliness: Thre are lots of high chairs. Food : 5/5 |
The halibut premium is really good here! One of the best fish and chip I had in a while. I like how the staff all the sauce on the table for us. They are super friendly so I highly recommend this restaurant.
One of the best fish & chip in town.
Over priced for what you get 19.99 x 2 plus tax tip $55. Way over priced and not really good size fish small portions rib off never again off bucket list
Very good halibut and fries, the best Ive had, locally. Excellent service, the staff are great.
Poor size though quite tasty once we had reheated it after it took almost 45min to be delivered 10 mims away. This isnt the 1st time delivery has been the issue. Food
Always the best fish and chips! You cant find better in Toronto.
Best fish and chips lunch special in the city. Have been going here for years i really enjoy this restaurant.
Staff were very kind, they made me feel like family. The fish and chips were excellent, and its clear why the business has survived all these years.
Hands down the best halibut and chips dinner Ive ever had! The batter on the fish is light, crispy, and not oily.. very clean taste. The thick cut fries were cooked to perfection and the coleslaw was what youd expect. You would be hard pressed to find a better fish and chips anywhere in Toronto. Well done.
Really good fish and chips. Worth a try.
Very good family owned and operated for 4 generations a ture fish and chips place if you want good fish and chips this is the place you want
Classic, traditional fish and chips restaurant with a cozy, nostalgic atmosphere. A family-owned business thats been around for a while, adding to its charm and authenticity. With an old school feel simple decor and friendly service. Overall, no-frills fish and chips served with a side of nostalgia.
Always delicious and friendly staff! The best fish and chips in town.
Best fish and chips in East End Toronto for generations, some people say the best fish and chips in Toronto
Fast service. Fish is good. Fries are ok.
We had to check out this neighbourhood classic! Came here at 12:30pm for lunch and had their lunch special which was SUPER affordable ($8) for the quality and portion. The calamari ($12) was fresh and chewy. Will be back
Always delicious. I only eat the halibut... lol
Staff was excellent. Quaint mom & pop style establishment. Food was excellent.
Big piece of halibut and thick fries. You could actually taste the potatoes
Authentic fish and chips place. I go there with an old friend, he only eats there!
Food was ample and fresh out of the pan. The cost was reasonable. The service was quick, efficient, and thoughtful. We were given take out containers, including cups, for gravies. It was a delightful March break for us. Parking: Free parking is at a mall across the restaurant or street parking, but you have to pay.
Its good
For almost $20.00, I think 2 pieces of fish should be included NOT 1. And coleslaw should be included with the chips.
Halibut was amazing! And at a good price Service was great too. It has an old school diner vibe and it s really busy with take out. Food
Been around for decades, but by far one of the BEST old school types of fish-n-chips haunts run by family members who never forgot about the roots of the establishment.
The best Fish & Chips in the City. Fast Service too.
My absolute #1 spot for fish and chips. The best!!!!
Ordered 2 halibit and 1 chips through skip the dishes. Fish price was reasonable $12.00 per fish and chips for $5.00. This was the perfect amount for 2 older people to share. They included free malt vinegar tartar sauce and ketchup and forks. Batter was thin and fish was thick! Like the old country! Recommend highly! They have many family options here to help you save money.
The chips were excellent and the fish was pretty good too. The latter followed the English way of covering the fish with batter. Fortunately, the batter wasnt too thick or oily, and the fish inside was fresh and tasty.
Ive eaten here 5 times over 3 years and today was the last straw. The fish is dry and the fries are old every single time. This place is over rated. Quality of food is terrible. The only good thing in the bag I brought home were the condiments.
I have heard amazing things about this place for years. Went on a Monday service was great and food was even better.
There are fish and chip joints, and then there is Len Duckworths. Ive been going here since my childhood. This place has the trifecta in that the fish, the fries, and the gravy are all top tier as long as you dine in. The food gets a little overcooked when doing take out/delivery as the heat has nowhere to escape in the container. Unfortunately, over the years, the prices have gone up. Way up. 5 years ago, a piece of halibut from here was $8. It is now $12.50 in 2023, an increase of over 50%. 3 pieces of halibut, fries, gravy, and a cherry soda costs $60 after tax and tip. Yeah, you heard that right. $60 for fish and chips. It is still the best fish and chips in the city, and possibly the whole country, as Ive been to Vancouver and nothing comes close to what is served here. But ten years ago, I wouldve never imagined paying $60 for a meal here. Unfortunately, premium seafood is now a luxury. It still gets 5 stars just for the quality of the food, but be aware that this is a no longer a cheap place to eat.
Brilliant!!! Amazing Halibut. Chips reminded me of chippies in London UK. Shrimps were delicious as well. Everything though deep fried did not feel so oily. Cole slaw and the tartar sauce were very tasty.
One of the best fish and chips in GTA!
I never tried this fish and chip joint before. Always wanted too, I usually stick to what I enjoy (captain johns fish and chips on Donlands or the old yorkie fish and chips) I walked in and ordered halibut and chips, side gravy and home tartar. The fish batter had a off oil taste and the fries tasted very old. Gravy was good and the home tartar sauce was okay. I won t be returning. I will stick to what I know. On top of it all. Had a hair in the fries :(
Excellent fish and chips. Crispy and light. Great spot
Best shrimp, scallops, and fish Ive had since Britain n that was 30 years ago. Ive lived all over the world and lens beats every place Ive been to since.
The best staff & fish & chips. Thats all that needs to be said !
This place is legendary. Have yet to eat better tasting fish and chips in the city. The tartar sauce is drinkable and is homemade and table side, none of those tiny processed packages. The gravy and fries are so good that I don t consider them sides.
Amazing food
My dad turned 80 on Tuesday March 7th and he requested to go to Duck Worths for his birthday lunch. He said this is the best and they did not disappoint. They are in fact the best fish & chips I have ever had! The halibut was not greasy but light and delicious with their homemade tartar sauce and homemade fries were also delicious. Great food & service makes it worth the trip!
Love this place and the staff
Been coming here for decades and with exception of one rare occasion when fish wasn t cooked enough, I have had the best fish and chips every time! I can even order 1/2 fries whereas other restaurants refuse to as I m a senior that doesn t want an overflowing plate of fries.
I was able to take my 80 year old buddy back to the restaurant that his grandad took him to 75 years ago. Wonderful people and wonderful food.
The Halibut was priced right and was so fresh and tasty
Theres a reason its been around for almost 60 years... because it is excellent fish and chips! Its a no frills kinda place but the food is excellent.byiu aint coming here for the decor anyhow. Its pricey for the amount you get but still one of the best fish and chips place in Toronto and worth every penny.
Truly an amazing place to be, with your family and friends or even for a quiet solo meal. Its a whole other world once you step in through the door. Friendly staff and great service. The Halibut is top notch! Do try it out!
This is the only place l go for fish & chips. I drive to get here.ENJOT !!
Vegetarian options: Non of above Dietary restrictions: Nil Parking: Nil Wheelchair accessibility: No
Great taste of fish and chips.
Tasty, good-sized portions, fish not overly battered, not too greasy, thick-cut fries, and squeeze bottles of tartar sauce!! Friendly and quick service.
My wife and i just happened to be driving by and saw Lens and thought we would give it a try. Turns out to be the best fish n chips weve had in Canada from leaving England 26 years ago. I had yet to find a proper chippy until now. Authentic fish n chips down to the receipt. Definitely our go to chippy from now on. Thanks so much for our great experience.
Best F&C in Toronto. Both Len D & Ken D. Halibut to die for - near tempura thin batter! Fries true British style excellent also. If youre never been, GO Food : 5/5 |
Still delicious after all these years.
Just go!
Been coming here since I was a kid.. best fish and chips in the city
Best fish & chips ever
Authentic fish and chips, good vibes from the staff, and a cozy atmosphere make you feel right at home.
Quality. Theres no better establishment
Nice. Clean. Diner type atmosphere. The lighthouse in the window gives it a down by the Sea feel. Both the service and the food were very good.
The prices are a bit expensive but the food is great.
I first want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to eat the best fish and chips. Original authentic and tradition come together. Its worth eating here.
An entirely local family run heritage for a century
The best fish and chips every. Len great fish
Me and my husband Anthony love Duckworths great fish n chips.
The haddock, halibut, and shrimp are all amazing. Order the gravy!
Enjoyed the scallops!
This place has always provided great food with great service. We are here at least once a week.
Great fish and chips, excellent service.
Great old school fish and chips. No frills or flair just the straight goods. Fish and chips are done right. Kid-friendliness: Highly kid friendly.
Do not follow hygiene and stuff are very rude and unprofessional!
Their Stuff do not follow hygiene and very unprofessional!
Wonderful old school chippy. Great fishnchips as good as Ive ever had back home. (England) Food : 5/5
Love how time hasnt changed their food! Great staff and the best fish!
Love this place. And so many love it since 1929. Fish and chips are consistent. Always good always fresh and always cooked right. Fries are so yummy, we upgrated to poutine and were not disappointed. It was and great side. Coleslaw is very nice, tastes fresh and not too acidic. Now lets not forget the bread. So fresh and fluffy. Recommend the place for sure. We had a great time. Bon Apetit.
Really an amazing place and excellent food. Friendly and great service. It was my first time trying this place. We ordered the seafood platter and lunch special. The seafood platter was awesome! Big portion and good price! Scallops and shrimps were so fresh and so flavourful! The halibut was top notch fresh and crispy! Lunch special was great at a good price. We enjoyed every single bite of food that we ordered. I highly recommend this place! I cant wait to go back!
Theres a lot of pride and history served with the excellent fish and chips at Len Duckworths. Crispy fresh cut fries, halibut fillets lightly battered and deliciously crispy without being greasy. I enjoyed the house special which includes halibut, chips, bread & butter and a beverage. The service was friendly and helpful. Its always a pleasure to dine at Len Duckworths fish & chips.
I ve been coming here for 40 years to both this location and the Kingston road one. This was a staple whenever I went to my grandparents house on a Friday for supper. In all the time I ve been never had anything but an amazing dining experience. I highly recommend this place to anyone wanting great authentic British fish and chips in the Toronto area. Kid-friendliness: Owners are super friendly n nice Wheelchair accessibility: It s on street level
All you can squeeze tartar sauce. Crispy batter. Juicy fish haddock Thick cut fries. Soft fluffy bread slathered with butter. Black coffee. Tangy yet creamy coleslaw. All the above = house special, $17.50
Duckworths has a winning formula that stands the test of time. Never a bad experience. I highly recommend them...
Ive been eating at, and from, this establishment for over 20 years. I have never been disappointed by their food or their service. I hope to keep on visiting for another 20
They got it right. You will not feel that they could have done better. More fish, just enough batter. Right pricing and smiles everywhere. Classic.
Best fish and chips in the city! The coleslaw is 10/10! Parking: Lots of street parking near by. Food : 5/5 |
Good fish & chips. Be ready to open that wallet?
Great staff and amazing food. Ive not tasted better Halibut and Chips in Toronto. Mind you, I havent been everywhere, but Ive been to a few. The batter is nicely fillet-fitting in that you arent served a tiny fillet with tonnes of batter, I dislike too much batter on my fish personally. Fries are usually great. I havent tried anything else on the menu except for haddock--it was great--though they have other things like kalamari for people who enjoy that sort of thing.
Always great!
Fish is usually excellent, however last time was dry. The chips however, have been disappointing on more than one occasion. Sometimes we get the fish here, and the chips elsewhere. Service can be quite abrupt, bordering on rude.
If this is the only thing open and close to you, its good. If you are willing to travel the city and get better food for your money, there are plenty of better fish places to spend your money on. The people here were rude and the food all tasted like nothing but grease. Hero burger does better fish and chips. So does halibut house down the street at victoria park. I will never eat here again because I dont want to be disappointed again.
This is the second time Ive been here and Ive enjoyed the food so much and the atmosphere is amazing. Keep up the good work guys
Very friendly staff and good fish and chips too. I do wish it came with lemon though. Ive seen pictures from here that have lemons on the side. Either Ive misread the menu or its just something you have to request. Either way, solid fish and chips spot.
4 stars coz of authentic taste and quantity. However i will rate Reliable Fish & Chips way ahead in terms of taste.
Great experience as it always is. Very cordial staff.
Good place for Fish and Chips
Always really tasty good food, and excellent service.
Good Stuff
Len Duckworth Fish and Chips are the best in town. Their fish is fresh and there home cut fries are cooked to perfection. I consider myself a expert when it comes to fish and chips as my parents had a Fish and Chip restaurant in Oshawa for years. Duckworths is the closest fish and chips to my parents place I have found any where. Thank you for making the best fish and chips around. I order delivery and the fish and chips are always hot when they are delivered. Blake Bell
Not a lot to say the food will speak for itself Always very good quick service and a nice eat in experience Parking: Tons of street parking available.... Canadian tire is across the street for additional parking Kid-friendliness: Its a family owned business.... everyone is always welcome high seats are available
I am 52 years old and my mother took me here when I was younger than I can remember Im sure. And none of has changed! Which is a great thing!!
Its always excellent fish
When you fresh fish well prepared you come to Len Duckworths. Youll be glad you did. I had the Halibut and chips. Great never frozen fish in a light breading. And chipped potatoes done by hand there. A wonderful treat.
The best fish and chips in Toronto
Best F&C in town! Service was top notch.
a gem. kind and patient staff.
Read about this place and visited when in Toronto. Great fish and chips.
I have been coming to Len Duckworths since i was in middle school.. hands down the best fish & chips in Toronto. Fish is always flakey and the batter is not heavy. The calamari is amazing its always more meat than batter. The coleslaw is my favourite part. Everything about Lens is top notch, from the service to food everything is amazing. Will not go elsewhere in Toronto for F&C
Best halibut fish and chips. Great value, friendly service. I would highly recommend.
Without a doubt one of the best fish&chips in town, will be back for more of it
Absolutely amazing their halibut meal is perfectly priced. The portion size is fulfilling, quality of food is great and who doesnt love fish scraps on your fries/side. My favorite place for fish n chips cravings.
I love the fish and other dishes. Fries are still need quality. Parking: Easy to find parking during brunch time Food : 5/5 |
Great food, go there often
Love this place and there food is amazing
Yum.y fish and chips. Great pricing too
An institution but also one of the top at its game. Always a pleasure, everything is delicious as it is comforting.
Always delicious and super friendly staff. Been visiting for years!
