On the lake or in the city fresh seafood lives here. Lively local wine list that expresses our beautiful terroir, a profusion of super fresh oysters, mussels, clams and fish, all from the beautiful east coast of our country. Supporting local and sustainable farming to ensure no compromises, bringing in fresh and flavouful ingredients. A basement bar feel to enjoy with family, friends or the wicked.
Follow @bredgyeats for more food pics! Halibut Fish and Chips - Halibut was uneven, the thinner end was super moist and flaky, while the thicker part was a little worse but still good. The batter was crispy and aromatic, but the fish itself didn't have a taste. The tartar sauce was nice, and the lemon brightened up the dish a lot. Vinaigrette slaw was refreshing and crisp, and the salad was on the sour side but helped with the oil of the batter.
We were excited to go here for sea food and they did not disappoint. We arrived just as they opened and were greeted by the friendliest lady who gave us a run down of the menu and sorted us out with drinks. The food was delicious and we tried a good assortment of what was on the menu. Fish tacos excellent, brussel sprouts awesome, fish and chips delish!
I got the burger with a side salad. The side salad was just lettuce with balsamic vinaigrette and the burger was good but a little dry for my liking. My friends got the fish and chips and said the fish was a bit burnt. Also, there weren’t too many options to choose from on the menu for meals. Aside from that, our server was super nice, accommodating and quick with our orders.
Landon took great care of us (party of 12). He was super personable and quick. Fish and chips, 10/10. Also got the curry, super flavorful. Love the atmosphere and the place was clean. Bathrooms too. So happy we chose this place to satisfy our cravings. Will definitely be back when we visit Toronto!
We chose the bar level seat looking out the front window. Great food! The chowder was so full of fish it was more like a bowl of fish with sauce. Brussel sprouts are a must have. Fish and shrimps that we had were fresh and tasty. Great service from our server, just the right level of attentiveness and enthusiasm (it's an art) Only thing would be the ventilation in the open kitchen could be better, but hey, they serve fish and chips! What did you expect?
I decided to give this place a try after I found it on a Google search for fish n' chips. I ordered a few oysters, which were tasty and fresh along with halibut and chip. I chose the vegan poutine as my side since I don't eat dairy. They don't use any dairy, eggs, or beer in their fish batter, which was nice. I found the halibut a little lacking in flavour, watery and chewy. The vinegarette coleslaw was fresh and delicious. The server was very friendly and helpful, and that made it an inviting spot with a cozy nautical atmosphere. I will be back for sure to maybe try a different fish next time or their vegan banana blossom fish substitute. It's definitely worth a visit if you love fish and seafood.
I'll definitely come back to try more of their shrimp options. We ordered a battered cod taco and a grilled shrimp taco, a tiger shrimp po'boy, and the frings. What we liked most were the items with shrimp. What we liked the least were the onion rings in the frings, but it was still enjoyable. This order was enough to share between two people over lunch. The fish and chips option that other tables were ordering looked well portioned and I'd give that a try as well. Also, great service from the staff!
Sustainable, eco-conscious restaurant and bar, using seasonal, ingredients Amazing spot for fish and chips. They have a large gluten-free menu and also vegan options. I love this place.
Delicious food with wonderful gluten free options. Extremely friendly staff and cozy atmosphere
Great little fishplace! Always tasty, always loving their food. Fresh and delicious!
Amazing food , drink and excellent staff
The fish and tartar sauce are quite tasty. The fries were not good.
This is one of best restaurants Ive ever encountered. Food is delicious and comfy, the server is real cool!
Pretty good
Spot
Ill post pictures later, service was great the smell of fried fish amazing Im sure its great !
I really wanted to love this place as it is a lot closer to where we live that the other fish and chip place we go to. We had 2 pieces of cod and chips. The tartar sauce was great. The Fish sadly was so greasy and the batter so thick I had a hard time finishing it.
Over priced, bland, under seasoned, wanna be elevated fish n chips joint.
Cute little shop with great food and friendly service! We got the shrimp poboy and cod - the cod was soft and flaky, and the shrimp was light and juicy. Would definitely recommend.
We had a very nice dinner here! The staff were very friendly, and super considerate of our daughters gluten allergy. The fish and chips were delicious, as were the Brussels, and poutine we ordered. Dietary restrictions: Celiacs and peanut allergy safe
I was starvin for some fish and chips (it must be the Newfie side of me) I picked it up, TTC home, sat down & blessed J/M/J .HEAVENLY! Absolutely perfect
Awesome find
Seriously off the hook!! amazing halibut, chips and coleslaw. Tartar sauce was also the best Ive had, everything seems fresh and made in house. Great portions & 10/10 service as well. Im addicted!
Great local fish and chips place. Check out the vegetarian banana flower option! They have gluten-free options as well.
Finally a good gluten free fish and chip shop! Great fries! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
We were turned away twice and told to come back in 5 minutes. When we tried to enter a 3rd time (all this on the same day) we were told to come back in a half an hour. It was a long drive to get to the restaurant. We gave up.
Great gluten-free fish and chips and gluten-free onion rings. Vegetarian options: You can substitute vegan deep-fried banana blossom for the fish in the fish and chips. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free fish, fries, onion rings
Great spot with very nice service, fun atmosphere and really good fish and chips!! Also my partner is gluten-free so its the first time in a long time since shes been able to enjoy fish and chips.. a lot of gluten free options from starters, mains and dessert.. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
We arrived early, just after 5, to celebrate my wifes birthday. Very friendly service. Amazing food. Great small restaurant atmosphere. Loved the onion rings (gluten free) and coleslaw. My wife had the wide cod and I had the shrimp sandwich. We left full. Topped it off with a free birthday piece of flourless chocolate cake. We will be back.
The best gluten free fish & chips I ever had!
A great bite to eat! The halibut is outstanding and the popcorn shrimp were crispy! We had so much fun checking out all of the art and decorations. The service was great!
Grilled Cod Tacos are lights out
First visit and we were not disappointed! Taste, quality, presentation all were outstanding!
Nice place, to be honest its fish and chips are their shining plates. Risotto was nice but the fish pieces were overcooked. Same for the curried fish plate. Fair selection of beer and wine and fair prices.
We were a group of friends, went for dinner, order halibut with fries. The fish was very oily and burn, the fries - were fried with old oil and look old and dark.Very pricey .The place is small and smells bad. Wont go back .
vegan poutine is absolutely incredible (and such a good price vs portion??) you can even request the fries be fried in a new batch of oil so they re not in the oil that deep fried fish. good customer service (though our phone order didn t get out through and we had to wait a bit) and my friend really liked her fish as well. I go back every month or so when I remember how delicious that poutine is haha
Just have to give a review because the service was so good! Very patient server busy managing the small room herself. Very pleasant and the food was great too! Large servings. Tight space so if its busy may be feel a little tight.
Fresh seafood and the server was efficient and nice. Good neighbourhood joint.
The flavor of chowder was very good, a little spicy, and although we like the spicy food at the end it killed the main flavor of the chowder. The squid is delicious. The experience was super. It is a place I would easily return to.
Anyways happy to come back here for good food served quickly. The staff are super friendly.
My new office - finally - a place where Celiacs can eat to our hearts content with no fear! Separate fryers, amazing batter ..can t wait to come back.
Terrific chowder and.fish n chips of many varieties
Great gluten free fush and chips
Visiting from NYC where we cant get any decent fish and chips. Used to work in London and visit the UK a couple of times a year for work. Absolutely loved this fish and chips and it is even better than 95% of the spots I have in London. Super silky cod, that melts in your mouth and a nice crisp layer of skin - its hard to get both of those 2 aspects correct. The tartar sauce was super light and creamy and tasted homemade. Didnt taste any grease at all. Reminded me of Sutton & Sons in Hackney. Only possible improvement for me would be to leave the skin on the fish as thats how Im used to having it in the UK but I can understand that not everyone likes that. The poutine was also delicious and had a generous serving of curds. My impression is that this establishment cares about quality and it shows.
Dietary restrictions: Gluten free Heaven! Recommended dishes
Fantastic gluten free selection. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meals. Dietary restrictions: Separate friends and great care taken with gluten free meals. Food : 5/5 |
Tasty food with good portions, but the service was the best part. Everyone is so friendly and fun here!
Best fish and chips Ive ever had! - Great service!
I heard about this place online and decided to check it out! Staff and service was great. I loved that they were playing Community on the TV in the back haha. The fish and chips were delicious and the portions were great for the price! Haddock is my go to and I enjoyed every bite of it. It was also well cooked. Next, the fries were also delicious (I am biased - I love fries) and I tried my partner s Cajun fries and well seasoned. I m also obsessed the creamy coleslaw. The one dish that really stole the show was the seafood chowder. I wasn t expecting much from a chowder, but I was pleasantly surprised. It warmed up my soul. It was creamy and I loved the prices of haddock in the chowder. Honestly, the best chowder I ve ever had!
Spectacular fish & chips and everything is made from scratch!
This place is a dream come true for the gluten-free. A dream of delicious crispy fish n chips you thought you had to give up forever. The Vegan poutine is also amazing. Aside from the food, wonderful waitstaff, good not too loud music, and excellent beer selection round out an exceptional experience.
Wait a bit longer during busy hours, but it was worthy it.
Great food and service! Forgot my bike helmet at the restaurant and our server Charlotte (I think) went out of her way to get it returned to me afterwards
Vegetarian options: Deep fried banana blooms. Yum! Dietary restrictions: Separate gluten-free fryer. Gluten free beer. Vegan options. Kid-friendliness: Friendly and accommodating staff Wheelchair accessibility: Its crowded. There is a step up at the entrance and another part way through the restaurant.
Was not happy at all. This is not my first time ordering but I was very disappointed this time. We ordered a delivery GF fish and chips and normal fish and chips. My gluten free fish had very weird consistency. Fish itself was chewy and difficult to chew through. At first I thought its just not cooked through but then I popped it into an oven for a few additional minutes. It didn t help with the weird consistency. I didn t eat it. Felt like the fish itself was frozen and thawn couple of times. Also normal fish was not seasoned. Not sure if it supposed to be without any flavour or not thought.
This place was amazing! Such great staff and atmosphere that the only thing that outshone it was the absolutely fantastic food. Expertly prepared and such an experience. It was a perfect evening shared with great food and excellent conversations So worth all the star reviews.
This place used to be amazing, but they ve clearly started to sacrifice quality for profits. Their chicken fingers went from being great to clearly frozen, boxed chicken fingers you could buy at Loblaws. Their fries are tasteless and their onion rings are always overcooked. Even their fish isn t anything special. It s too bad because I used to like this place and it s the only fish and chips place near this location. Edit (to respond to the owners comment below): If these are the chicken fingers you have in the restaurant, what am I supposed to complain about? If I say something, are you going to magically cook up better chicken fingers that aren t clearly frozen? I can tell by your other review responses you don t really care about your customers and again, it sucks because this place used to actually be good. I will never recommend this place again (unless someone s looking for burnt, cooked from frozen food).
Good service. Food was served in a timely manner.
Great place to go if your feeling like fish and chips I m a big fan of their halibut be sure to bring an appetite as the portions are huge friendly staff good atmosphere I ll definitely be going back with that family highly recommended
Stupid good fish and chips. They knew there was a show around the corner at Danforth and played music fitting the act. Super great all around
The halibut was delicious and there was plenty of it. Lots of fries and tasty coleslaw too. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. I would recommend this place to friends.
Favorite fish and chips in the area. Fantastic service!
Amazing restaurant with good food. Highly recommended if you are seafood lover. Best for casual hangout with family or friend. Location is few steps away from broadview station, no parking space though. The interior decoration of the place is exceptional, the effort made for all the little detailing is great. About 40/50 sitting area, with a small bar. The waiter was energetic who made the whole experience better for us. We ordered fish and chips that comes with coleslaw. I would rate the food eight out of ten. They served the food after 5/10mins but you will enjoy the time because they play good music. Price is okay, we ordered extra slice of fish which costs us $18. Washroom is spacious with underwater theme decoration although the cleanliness could improve. Perfect for adults who are looking for a cozy place for a meal, not sure if kinds would like this place. Kitchen is right infront so you can see your meal being prepared which is a good thing. The restaurant was very clean and tidy. As far as I remember they have space outside to sit. I am definitely going to this place again to try their other recipes and drinks.
Super dark and dingey. The space between tables is super crammed. We sat directly across from the bar and felt very squished. The food was okay but nothing special, which is too bad because other reviews said the food was pretty good. The waiter we had was odd- friendly but no professionalism. Since we were in front of the bar area we could hear his loud conversation with his co-workers, making it difficult to focus on our own conversations. Lots of swearing and personal matters discussed by the staff. Nothing disrespectful but also nothing I want to have to overhear while dinning. Very unprofessional in my opinion. Would not recommend and would definitely not go back.
Fresh, fabulous, fish... Can you ask for more!?
Friendly staff. Diverse options of seafood. Amazing customizable options. Highly recommend fish and chips. Fish lover s dream.
Ordered takeout from here for the first time on Friday and omg! My boyfriend and I have never had takeout arrive so hot. The halibut was crispy and delicious and the fries were amazing. Been wanting to try it for a while and can t wait to go back!
The fish and chips here are excellent. As someone who is allergic to glutten, it was a wonderful surprise to see this as an option. There are vegan options here, too, which are wonderful, and dont taste like bland tofu!! This place is becoming one of my favorite spots in Toronto. The staff are amazing, and the waitress gave great recommendations. 10/10 Ill definitely be back again. Dietary restrictions: Vegan, Gutten-Free options 10/10
Super delicious vegan options! Our server was also hilarious and charming and checked in with us often!
Yummy halibut and they have gluten free options as well! I had the fish and chips and onion rings (all gf). I will be coming back. Dietary restrictions: Gluten and dairy free
In fifty years of dining, this is hands-down the best quality fish and chips served in the city. Gluten-free batter option and very meaty fresh fish. Atmosphere and service were top notch! Will definitely return! Dietary restrictions: Gluten free batter was excellent!
I adore this place, it s been a favourite of mine for years, with so many amazing memories attached to it! I love their shrimp po boy, it never disappoints! All of the staff are so kind, helpful & friendly! The atmosphere is relaxed & it s never too busy to the point of it feeling crowded. The decor suits the aesthetic & the washroom sign is fun & inclusive! I absolutely recommend coming here
OMG, what an amazing place! Friendly and quick service and amazing food. Love their vegan options!!! Food
10/10 flaky fish with delicious seasoned fries
Cute spot with good vegan options! Will definitely be back
Service was good. But didn t ask how it was, I guess she knew based off our body language? Popcorn shrimp was good, cocktail sauce was nice. Got my fries cold, wild cod was rubbery and batter didn t stick to it. Saw the cooks on their phones I hope they washed their hands before and after playing candy crush. Wanted to enjoy this based on reviews but this place is a one and done for me unfortunately. I liked the IPA they had, homey atmosphere but food was not good
Had dinner here on a Thursday night and we likely won t be back anytime soon. While the service was warm and friendly, it wasn t enough to make up for the mediocre food. The most disappointing aspect for me was the fries which were cold and looked and tasted like they were cooked in very old oil. I had the tiger shrimp po boy, everything about it was pretty good except for the dry and not so fresh bun. My boyfriend had the fish and chips and one piece tasted good but the 2nd piece tasted rubbery and bland. Not what you want to taste when you re shelling out $25-$30 per person for seafood. On the plus side, the beer on tap was good and the ambience was neat and cozy. Maybe I m just too picky for my own good since there are so many good reviews but if you re a hardcore foodie, this place has the potential to be a letdown.
I love this restaurant. Its the only spot with a dedicated gluten free fryer for fish & chips and sides like onion rings (important when you have serious food allergies). Everything is always cooked perfectly.
A+ service and A+ food, Fiona was such a great hostess. Will definitely be back
Celiac friendly, great service, very good variety of options. Dietary restrictions: Celiac Disease Food : 5/5 |
Great spot for fish and chips. Nice ambiance. Highly recommend the shrimp and cauliflower tacos. Drinks were amazing as well!
Delicious fish which I ate on the street on a bitterly cold night. I am looking forward to getting the full enjoyment of a sit down meal once restaurants are allowed to re-open for dining.
It was worth the drive from Mississauga as it s hard to find places with gluten free options. Will be back!
Great food, lovely ambience, fast service, halibot fish is very fresh, go for it:)
Went last night and it was great. Had a Caesar salad and some haddock and chips and it was all pretty incredible. I read some awful reviews on here before I went but am happy to report back it was delicious. Excellent service.
Awesome food, plenty of gluten free options with a dedicated fryer. Can pick fish type and batter type. Fish and chips were great, the coleslaw was amazingly acidic it cut the fatty items perfectly.
The place is nicely renovated. Staff are lovely. My GF fish n chips was delish!
Amazing, perfectly cooked Halibut that was light and flaky. The French fries tasted like they had just come fresh out of a chip truck on Sauble Beach complete with skins! Delicious!!!! Pick them up so they aren t mushy. And, while you re there, make sure to tip the staff well$$
Extremely high-quality ingredients gourmet Quality
Might be my favorite restaurant in Toronto, delicious food and the ambiance and decorations inside just makes for a wonderfully experience.
Cool vibe. Great food. Try the mac & cheese. Friendly service. Highly recommend.
Very good!
The vegan fish is amazing! Actually tastes like fish
Compared to all the other fish and chips restaurants in the city, I thought both the fish and the chips were overdone (the fries were hard). There was a selection of batter types, sauces, and side options. I tried the plain house batter which was not mixed well (at times the batter was sweet for some reason). The mussels and the brussel sprouts were delicious, I would go back for them. However there are definitely better places for fish and chips in the city. Service was good.
Great food, fast and friendly service. Clean and neatly decorated interior.
Flavor town! They sure know how to deep fry things properly. Fish was fresh, grilled perfectly.
Celiac friendly!!!!!! Gluten free almost anything including the poutine. Best tasting gluten free fish and chips I ever had. I eagerly anticipated Saturday afternoon just to go back for more. Great customer service ! Thanks
Vegan fish and chips with poutine. Was quite tasty. Nice to know there is a vegan option.
Not convenient for dine in
UPDATE: THREW UP MY ENTIRE DINNER! Unfortunately our (TAKEOUT DINNER) onion rings and fish were very much over cooked. Most of the onion rings were burnt. So disappointed. Sorry but I can t go more than 1 stars. Won t be returning.
The lobster roll was yummy though kettle chips not my fave side, the gluten free deep fried oreos are to die for, and the margarita is very tasty
Got fish and chips for takeout. It was about 80% batter. I had to dig and dig to get fish to go with my batter. Maybe this was a one off thing but imho there s better in the city. I will definitely be back for oysters though!
I love it! They have such amazing quality in their food. You can tell they care so much about what they are serving. the service is great! They have a lot of options. Also, delicious beers and cocktails. Its that kind of restaurant youd think of coming back again. I highly recommend the fish and chips and the east coast oysters! So delish!!!
Really friendly staff, love that they have vegan and gluten free options. Vegetarian options: Vegan fish and chips option Dietary restrictions: Gluten free options
I was shocked when I opened up the Halibut dinner X2. It was completely burnt. I am even more surprised the chef would allow something like this to go out the door. Very disappointed and it wasn t cheap, especially using UBER EATS. The driver was very nice though!
Fish and chip were amazing, loved the pearl oysters as well. The staff was incredible. Great place for fish even if you dont like fish.
I drove around for a bit trying to find somewhere to get a quick bite and was very happy we found this restaurant. Stu was awesome the moment we walked in. I d highly recommend eating here!!!
Excellent TRULY gluten free menu, staff fully respectful of food allergies (and friendly to boot)
How do I despise your Halifax Donairs Let me count the ways: 1) Floury Greek Pita instead of Chewy Lebanese Pita; 2) Pre-processed, bland, meat, pre-sliced so thin even Helen Keller could read through it no vertical spit. They heat it up in a frying pan; 3) Sauce drizzled on the pita BEFORE the meat s added. We want the sauce to seep down THROUGH the meat. (This is NOT a dish for Chopped ! 4) SLICED tomato? Coarsely chopped, like the onion (in this case thin slivers of red onion WRONG!!) 5) Served flat on a plate, instead of rolled up in foil (to keep the heat in and let the flavours blend). Until today, the worst donair I ever had was in Charlottetown, microwaved, not even body temperature. At least this wasn t microwaved.
Cozy, clean, friendly service. Ordered oysters, brussels, shrimp taco, halibut & chips, seafood chowder. Lovely lunch, everything was fresh and fabulous. Travelled an hour through the city and it was definitely worth it.
Absolutely top notch gluten free food here!
Best gluten free fish and chips
The bar on fish and chips has been raised.
Great Halibut and Chips or with onion rings, yum yum
I would absolutely recommend this resturant. My sister and I ate gluten free and vegan respectively and we were each able to have poutine and fish and chips, which was amazing
Great service and good food. Would come back
The fish and coleslaw arent seasoned properly. Coleslaw lacked acid and fish lacked salt. The Fry itself was good with cripsy batter and the fries were nicely seasoned.
The wild cod is bland as if they didn t even add salt, the same with the fries. On the other hand the burger was really good as well as the rings. However the whole order was cold and everything was soggy so overall disappointed
Fun place, great value.. tasty food
What an awesome place! It s been in my neighbourhood for a while but I haven t thought twice since I m not the biggest seafood fan. Well, I came with my friends today and it turns out they have a great selection on their menu. The food was great and very good quality. What really caused me to want to immediately write this review, however, was the quality of service. The ambiance was wonderful and I have yet to meet another waiter so friendly, energetic, and overall extremely helpful. His name was Stew/Stewart. The entire staff were just so very friendly, I wanted to thank them for their efforts. Would definitely recommend!!
We had a wonderful dinner here before going to CBC s Accent on Comedy at the Danforth Music Hall. The oysters were wonderful and the Halibut was crispy and perfectly cooked. The chips were amazing. Oh and the beer was good.
Nice place
atmosphere is relaxed, one of the best fish and chips places in toronto
A small restaurant but great food and great service. 100% recommend a hundred times over.
gluten free fish and chip. yes please! its all really good, I especially liked the plant based options.
I ordered the house batter wild cod and Cajun fries for takeout and it was very tasty, the fish was cooked perfectly! The box did have quite a bit of condensation inside since the food was still hot but any hot food would react that way. Surprisingly the fish stayed hot and crispy and paired well with the jalapeño aioli dip. I think adding a piece of paper towel for the takeout food will absorb some of the moisture from the condensation.
This place is fantastic! Stu is a genius server and all of the food is fantastic. I have celiac disease and this place is my ride or die! Strongly recommend.
I never review anything, pretty much never, but was compelled to today. Called in today, spoke to the owner and asked whether they had soup, to which I was told yes, we have chowder. How much? $12. It s a good size, oh and that s without taxes . It was pretty terrible, mostly filled with potatoes and was small, like really small. Half a small container. Treat your customers right and don t LIE. I get that restaurants are scrapping by, I ll never be going to this spot again. I gave the guy $15, that s the value you put on a customer.
Fish and fries was very dry with no flavour despite it being Cajun. Customer service was fantastic, too bad the fish wasnt good.
Halibut was great. But the serving was 20% fish and 80% fries. The fish serving is not fair for $23 dollars. The small tartar sauce container was only filled halfway and only served less than half of the fish. Not going back.
The poutine chowder was well, off the hook lolol Good food!
Love this place and their awesome vegan options! The vegan banana blossom Fish and vegan poutine are unreal!!!
If you are VEGAN and miss the Fish and Chips experience then this is a good place to get your fix. The Vegan fish (made from Banana Blossom) is really good with the Vegan tarter sauce and Vegan slaw. Of course, to fix a true fish& chips craving you re going to eat it fried. It s battered perfectly and when you dip it in the Vegan tarter sauce with some lemon squeezed on top it hits the spot. Nice local people to support make it even better.
Ordered delivery yesterday and my portion size was larger than my last in restaurant order. My food was saggy and warm but, I won t blame them for that. However, I gave only 3 stars because flavour is definitely lacking. The fish was just bland and lack any kinda of flavour and so was the fries in the poutine. Great place if you would like to have gluten free options though, they just need to step up their flavour profile.
I TRAVELLED ALL THE WAY FROM FAR EAST & THE FOOD DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Amazing food was worth every penny and the long drive ! I would highly recommend the seafood tacos, fish and chips; as well as the crispy cauliflower tacos (which taste like BBQ wings) which were a favourite for my vegetarian son!
Best fish and chips. Gluten free option is excellent. My wife if gf and swears by their batter. Highly recommend.
Great gluten-free fish and chips (which is hard to find in this city). Highly recommended!!
Got takeout for the first time since they first opened and I am so glad that I finally tried them again. New owners since the beginning and everything was fantastic and there was lots of food too. Will go again for sure.
Favourite spot to get fish and chips in Toronto. The fish is so fresh and yes can be pricey but worth every penny. You have the option of a gluten-free batter, beer battered or even just grilled. Highly recommend the wild halibut. Generous servings, and really friendly staff.
Had the wild caught halibut with regular fries and a side order of onion rings...sooo excellent! The fish was perfectly cooked as were the fries and the authentic onion rings! I like how they include coleslaw (with creamy or vinaigrette options) and your choice of sauce (tartar, garlic aioli, etc). Overall a great meal and one order was all that was needed to two adults! I highly recommend them!
Not really a big review guy but this place is so good I just had to! We had the halibut and the crab cakes. Everything was cooked perfectly. The crab cakes were so fresh tasting! I cant wait until this place opens up so we can dine in. The decor inside is a huge step up from before. It is bright and inviting, with some great art on the walls. The service was fantastic also. We will be back for sure.
Food was good, not as happy with the price
Ordered gluten free fish and chips which I paid extra for. When it arrived at the table, I asked if its gluten free, and the cook had to bring back the dish. Shortly after discussing with the cashier and did something to the fish, the cook brought back the meal. I got sick after from eating it
Portions are very small if you order from uber. Owner: Why not call us directly if you had a issue? Our portions are huge. We have no control over the order once it is picked up. Either way we would have been happy to make it right for you. Edit:1 Define huge I ve had chicken fingers bigger then the fish sticks I got from your restaurant. I find it actually pathetic that you are trying to divert the blame to Uber. Also people should know that your portions are misleading. So no I won t contact you directly..
We ordered the Seafood Chowder and it had no actual seafood in but it still tasted good as a vegetable chowder. Staff was very pleasant and they have a patio!
overpriced , not tasty.
This place is great for a gluten free family. The batter is crispy and tasty. We have had no reactions.
Had a big craving for fish and chips and tried this place for the first time. Little patio is great with the wall Got the halibut and onion rings. Freshly fried, fish tasted great, batter a little thick especially for the onion rings, wish the slaw was more acidic to help cut the fried items. Would also like two separate sauces to go with the meal A little pricey for a single piece of fish but probably the going rate for seafood
Im so glad i finally explored this place. its a bit of a hike (please open a location in the West end!). It was so worth the trek to try the vegan fish & chips - it is AWESOME!!!! the vegan tartar sauce is delicious too! I will be back for more, friendly staff too!
Server was really nice but food was terrible. They really need to improve their fish batter and honestly everything else. Paid a lot for the food it wasnt worth it since I wasnt even able to finish it.
Great sieves great food I would definitely eat here again
a terrible let down - we were very disappointed by this place. We ordered 2 fish & chips and it was by far the worst we have had. It had absolutely 0 taste and the fries were hard almost as if they had been sitting out for hours.
Very nice selection of food, and it was very speedy delivery. However, gluten free breading was very plain tasting, no seasoning at all. Fries were good however did not taste fresh. However, they are the only place in Toronto that I am aware of that has dedicated gluten free fryer.
There is more to making fish and chips than rolling some fish in a thick batter and throwing it in a fat fryer, or even worse, taking a piece of pre battered fish out of the freezer. Off the Hook gets that. They know how to cook fish. They also know how to make fries and sweet potato fries out of real potatoes. And grill tuna along with any other fish on their menu you might desire. Our deep fried halibut and grilled tuna was perfect. So we re the oysters. So was the engaging service with our waiter. It doesn t get any better than this.fish fan? Do yourself a favor.
On of the best fish chips i ll try . Keep giving the best taste to community . Awesome
Awesome food ,
Great gluten free food that you are unlikely to find elsewhere such as onion rings and fish and chips! Very cozy place.
Really good food, good portion sizes, the environment is relaxed, and the staff are friendly, respectful, and accommodating!
The fiancé brought her gluten-free friends there and they loved it. She brought me there a few week later after I had eaten seafood for 2 months in Nova Scotia and they didn t disappoint. Loved every bite and the service was great.
The vegan fish & chips were amazing! Super crispy and came with this delicious vegan tartar sauce. Also recommend the vegan poutine, I think it had a cashew ricotta and was absolutely delicious.
Been going there most of my life. This place is very special to me. I miss their old $5 student lunch special but I can understand why it is no more.
BEST SPOT FOR A FISH & CHIPS FANATIC. Food was amazing, service was impeccable, and the atmosphere is quite cozy - FANTASTIC VIBES ALL AROUND! Shoutout to our waiter - Keep being you, because youre awesome bro.
Quite possibly the best place ive eaten at downtown in the past couple years. HIGHLY recommend.
Lovely place, quant and warm, excellent food, friendly service. Repeat: excellent food and an awesome menu; some good beers on tap to boot. Also great music!
The food is excellent and the gluten free fish and chips is amazing. Very accommodating and freindly staff and a cute environment to sit down and eat in.
The food is excellent here, so fresh and delicious, service is excellent too. This is my favorite spot to get fish and chips in the city! Its a small, intimate space for indoor dining which was redecorated since I was there last and it looks great!
I have been going here for a few years now when I m the area. Always great service and great tasting food. Had the fish and chips today and also orders a clam chowder to take home for dinner.
Perfect for celiacs! They have a dedicated gluten free fryer for their GF battered fish and chips. And it tasted great!
O.M.G! Vegan Fish and Chips! So satisfying and huge portion! I was going to take a photo but it looked so good that I totally forgot and had to dig in!!! The presentation looked exactly as if it was authentic fish and chips! Had wanted to try Banana Blossom Fish and this totally did NOT disappoint! Thank you for offering this dish! Would totally recommend and revisit this place again ! :)
Delicious food, friendly service. I had the haddock with onion rings, both were a crisp thin lovely batter. Also had some oysters, fresh with the classic accompaniments. Always happy to see and enjoy Left Field Brewery. I will definitely be back.
Excellent food and Gluten-free friendly!!!
Best halibut in town!
Take out took 10 minutes the ceaser salad was crispy and dressing was homemade very tasty. The fish (haddock)it melt in your mouth fresh generous with hand cut fries the meal was excellent they will see me soon.$$$
Excellent even though Im not a fish and chip guy
First time customer and will definitely be returning when in the neighbourhood. Absolutely delicious meal, fresh and large portions. Thanks for dinner!
Definitely one of the greatest spots in the area. Incredibly friendly and accommodating staff (management especially!) and the food here is fabulous. Would highly, highly recommend Off The Hook to anyone visiting the city who wants to get a feel for the great food and dining experiences this city has to offer.
Amazing place that we travel far just to get their chips. The owners and staff are lovely and along with their fresh five star food they give back to the community through giving food to those who are in need. Supporting local and ethical restaurants is so important, especially now.
Lovely place in a great neighbourhood
I m Celiac and it s a dream to be able to safely eat fish n chips after so many years of avoiding but craving it (separate batter, fryer, etc). I ve ordered here a ton and the portions are massive, the food is great, and the people are hard-working and lovely. And today, they sent me a little bonus of cauliflower wings, too, as a thanks for my orders. Generous and classy, and now I have a new favourite, thank you!!!
Took my girlfriend here for a lunch date and it really was off the hook! Service was fantastic and the food was absolutely delicious. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys fish and chips. My meal: Cajun battered pickerel with Cajun fries and a vinaigrette coleslaw. As well as PEI oysters and Nova Scotia oysters. Additionally, to wash everything down, a tasty cherry cider beer.
Mmmmm! This place has the most delicious food! I LOVE the fish burrito and the brussel sprouts!
Went in earlier tonight for a quick dinner, was craving fish and chips and looked online and found this spot! The name really captivated me and the reviews were good. Amber and Chris were working tonight and made my first time experience really wonderful. I got take out and didn t know the patio was set up outside. I decided to use it because I was so hungry and wanted to eat my meal right away. Amber went out and wiped a table and the chair down for me, making sure it was clean and up to standard with covid 19 regulations. She went above and beyond because it started raining and she still waited on me! Big shout out to this place and will be coming back! 5 star experience tonight.
The meals are best when eaten fresh and right away after cooking! After carrying the takeout for a 30min ride or so, the fries got a bit soggy but the portion was huge! Hopefully one day Ill be able to provide a fairer rating when dining in.
I enjoyed my meal from this establishment, but to describe it figuratively as off the hook would be generous. I would say it was perhaps *mostly* off the hook, maybe about 70% off, but not fully off the hook. I had the vegan fish and chips. That is to say, it was banana blossom rather than fish, and it was battered. The banana blossom was delicious! Great texture, really juicy, nice flavour. However, the batter? Maybe this is a matter of taste, but I like my batter crispy and crunchy. This batter had the consistency of fried bread. Not ideal! It was soft and fluffy. Only the extremities of my fish had crunchy batter. The chips (i.e. fries, for the uninitiated) werent bad but they were a little bit dry. Maybe its because I came towards the end of the day, too. Anyway, I was a little disappointed, but it did satisfy. And its hard to find banana blossom fish and chips, so Ill take it.
Really friendly staff and good menu options. Great to see they accommodate for vegans/vegetarians too. Made it much easier for me and my partner to eat here. The fish tasted great and cant wait to return and try more from the menu.
Good place and then prices are reasonable
The most delicious fish tacos I ve had in Toronto! Spicy and flavourful! I ordered the grilled cod and the fish was flaky and delicious! The staff is also friendly and helpful!
Every time I have eaten in the restaurant, the food has been amazing, but I realize that was the old owners. The one time I ordered delivery, the food was AWFUL! Cold, soggy, and the driest and thickest gross batter I ve ever had. They also forgot to send half our order. While they corrected that, which we greatly appreciated, it did not change the fact that the food was barely edible. So disappointing.
Great food !!
