Batifole has wonderful food and service. Each dish was beautifully presented and delicious. The staff and chef/owner were friendly and gracious. I very much recommend this restaurant.
A solid 4.5! Our daughter took 5 of us us there for my birthday and we had a great meal from start to finish. The wine, food, and service all hit the mark. Our server provided useful advice on the wine, the food was tasty and beautifully presented, and when the bottle of sparkling I ordered was out of stock, the server kindly provided a more expensive bottle for the same price. Highly recommended for high-end, tasty, and innovative French bistro food.
Delicious food, worth to try again. Small and cozy restaurant with a lot of historical figures photography around the wall. The results of the food is fantastic. I ordered duck confit wrapped up with pork belly, the fat from the pork belly balancing the dryness of the duck confit, which gave out a great experience for my food journey. The server can speak French or English, good smile with a professional services. The only concern is I went there in summer, it was around 26 degree outside. There's no AC while I was there, maybe it's better to go in winter.
By far, our favorite restaurant in Toronto. It is cozy, comfortable and very welcoming. The menu has the perfect selection of appetizers and main course offerings. The presentation and flavors were a delight. From the gazpacho (chilled soup), the scallops (perfectly prepared with a lemon mousse), to the roast eggplant and tomato confit—yum! Their French fries are gluten-free and perfectly crisp & hot. Signature cocktails + wine list added to the best gastronomical experience we have had in Toronto for a while. This is a neighborhood gem. Make a reservation. Walk ins may be turned away unless there is room at the bar.
Follow @bredgyeats for yummy food pictures! We indulged in the Foie Gras au Torchon, Duck Confit, Cassoulet and Chocolate Souffle this time. Like savory ice cream, this Foie Gras au Torchon has a creamy, buttery richness that's ultra indulgent when the burst of umami melts in your mouth. The grapefruit jelly balances each bite with a tart sweetness, while the candied orange peel provides a citrusy, bittersweet complexity. Slather all that on top of the airy and crisp brioche bun for a wonderful start to the night that'll get even better. The highlight of the night was the duck confit, fried expertly for a decadent smooth and tender texture, with a deep umami flavour that is magnified by the addictingly crispy charred potato galette, the caramelized sweetness of the apple sauce and the fresh sweetness of the cooked apples. To top it all off are slices of equally delicious duck breast that don't lack moisture at all. I'm glad my first time trying cassoulet was here. This dish is hearty yet so yummy that I had no trouble finishing it. The base is creamy white beans that can absorb the tangy tomato sauce and pork fat, topped with breadcrumbs and baked for a crispy contrast. Included inside is another piece of duck confit, juicy pork sausage, and a smoky, fatty piece of pork belly. One of the most memorable desserts comes in a freshly baked soufflé, that's so light and fluffy it's like placing a chocolate cloud in your mouth, with a more crisp texture on the exterior that creates a harmonious combination of textures that you can chew on or let dissolve in your mouth, oozing a decadent chocolate and boozy taste. The roasted aroma of the hazelnuts doesn't let your nose rest, and the coconut sauce is unbelievably addicting, that there wasn't anything to wash off when we were done.
First time visiting , what a great surprise overall , but must mention service was great, not rushed , ambience very cute and felt like we were in Provence France w Edith Piaf playing in the background. The duck breast was one of the best in the city, moist and medium rare and the steamed cod was moist , and delicious. Stephane, our server was well seasoned and a delight to have which made for a great evening We will definitely return to enjoy their cute patio once it opens
Have been several times and ALWAYS, ALWAYS is mind blowing the cuisine!! There are no words that can describe the marvelous culinary experience provided, the service and welcoming from Chef Pascal, Aurelie, Stefan and all the team makes BATIFOLE the VERY BEST French restaurant in the city !! We love you guys, thanks for feeding our hearts and souls with your magic
Tried this place for the first time. Ordered their classic cocktail, escargot, scallops, pork cheek, steak/marrow and souffle. The food is good but very heavy/rich. I wish it was a bit finer and lighter in taste. Very different from what I had in Paris. Service was good, servers explained the menu and always came to check on us, even the chef came out! I personally found the souffle too sweet, I wish they had a creme brulee. Again, just a personal taste.
Came with high expectation but left with appointment. Atmosphere was great and chill for family & friends to sit together. However, food is over-priced and over-salty. Waiter did not give a clear introduction of the featured menus, highly disappointed when the food I received was not matching what they described. Fish of the day, coming with only two small pieces, the rest is full with cheap squid and small mussels. Soup of the day, no fish at all, same taste as the main entry. Let alone the door opened and closed during the entire dinner time, extremely cold inside.
2024: The first time coming in person, delicious duck, steak, cheese selection! 2021: Did take out for the first time from this authentic French restaurant! The food was too delicious that I forgot to take pictures of them! Heres what I had: 1) Fresh bread with eggplant spread (wow, delicious and uniquely flavored spread!), Escargot in creamy sauce, squash soup ans crab meat crepe! All so delicious. I cant wait to go back when the restaurant opens to try more items in person! Kid-friendliness: No , good for more fine dining experience
Just wonderful on all levels one of my favourites in Toronto
Enjoyed my meal, but it was overpriced for what it was.
Always a treat, our favourite French restaurant in Toronto. Small, friendly, attentive and most importantly delicious!
Accommodated us on a walk-in despite reservations normally required. We were so lucky to be found a table as we were running late for a nearby live performance and needed to be served quickly. The staff and management went way beyond our expectations, the Charcuterie boards and wine were fantastique! They were very quick yet served the appetizers as if it had taken them twice as long to prepare and they were exquisitely prepared.. tres bon :-) Cant wait for the opportunity to eat a full meal there!
Excellent dinner!!
The scallops and escargot were delicious
The Silence of the Lambs white paint
Still a great neighbourhood Bistro serving classics and new dishes all with style
The best food, service, and atmosphere in Toronto! Just perfect. Dietary restrictions: Nuts Food : 5/5 |
We were only here for a brief time, but it was an excellent experience. The wonderful manager was mindful of our need to be finished quickly, and the service was what most of us remember service used to be like, excellent and attentive. Really what to come back to explore the menu. Vibe was quite romantic with a lovely little side patio.
This place is a hidden gem. I m a huge fan of French food and I can t believe I just found out about it. From the food, service and ambience, everything is perfect. We had the Steak tartare, Crustade of lamb, Tournedos Rossini, Pommes frites, and the Grand Marnier soufflé. Highly recommend them all. I will become a regular here for sure.
Charming, cozy restaurant with incredible French dishes. What makes it more special is the service, and how the chef and owner comes out to greet you every time!
A nice French restaurant in our neighborhood. The dishes were delicious, especially the beef nail and the eggplant (exceptional!) We had a very nice evening
Really excellent!
Had a wonderful experience at Batifole. Great staff and ambiance but the food was exceptional. We loved that the chef stopped by our table so we could give our compliments in person
Best French dining in Toronto hands down. The only real French dining I would say. From French staff to low key European ambiance and decor .. just perfect and the food was out of this world. Can t wait to go back.
This place is amazing. The food is incredible, staff is super knowledgeable. They truly grasp the French experience, letting you enjoy your meal and not rushing you out of the restaurant. Food suggestions - after numerous visits, nothing disappoints. I am a meat-i-tarian and they convinced me to try a vegan dish. It was beyond delicious. Im celiac- they can make nearly everything gluten free.
It was really great at my first visit (Jun 2023) when there was apple tartin, my second visit was not as good as the first visit because no more apple tartin and I noticed quite a lot increase in the price of some dishes e.g. the duck confit. I would have rated 5/5 for my first visit.
Great food and service. Perfect for a date night.
Best French restaurant in the city!
It was our first time dining at this restaurant and based on our experience, its one well be coming back to. We arrived a bit early, but our table was ready and we got seated right away. Its not a big space, but I like the way it was all set-up. Even with the music and other customers, we were still able to have conversations and it still felt intimate. The servers were all amazing; explaining the dishes and also making recommendations. We were checked on regularly, and even the chef came by to say hello. The food arrived on time, and my goodness, we did not regret a single choice. We tried options from both the special and regular menu - pate en croute, cassoulet royal, cuisse de canard confite and the souffle. The servings were generous and the food was delicious. The souffle felt like air, and even though I was stuffed, it was hard to stop eating it. Thank you for the amazing experience, Batifole! Parking: There is paid parking on the street and also a Green P parking lot close to the venue - about 3 to 4 minutes walk.
The dishes were all well prepared and delicious. Friendly service and reasonable prices. We had a pleasant meal here
Cutest little dining place and the food and service were amazing. As some others have mentioned, the chef came pit at the end of the meal and asked how everything was. Their souffle was perfection. Definitely coming back again.
My wife and I had dinner here and it was our first time. The food and service was 10/10 but it was the atmosphere that makes this place stand apart from the rest. I feel cheesy saying it but when youre in a French restaurant and surrounded by staff speaking (and even playfully arguing) in French it just makes you feel like youre somewhere else entirely. So happy we found this place and will return many more times. Just perfect
Excellent service gastronomic food great choices entrees main courses and yummy desserts accompanied by great wine !! Best French restaurant in Chinatown indeed !!
I want to start with the positive points before I get to my criticism: The service is good. Servers check on you to make sure you have everything you need and ask if you like your food or not. Even the chef himself paid us a visit at the table once to make sure we have a VIP experience which was very interesting and we appreciated it. The deserts were magnificent! Very tasty and fresh, they melt in your mouth! My criticism starts here: As a vegetarian I was very disappointed in the food. I paid 3 times the price for a food that was easily but by any of the food court fast food restaurants in Toronto! They underestimate the vegetarians food palate at best and dont have much respect for them at worst. Vegetarian option was just an after thought in the menu. They only have ONE option for you and they have just fried some vegetables and put them on the plate to call it a day, and yet they charge you full price for that! If you or any of your guests or companions are vegetarian, avoid this restaurant or you/your vegetarian friend will be let down by this place! Vegetarian options: There is only one option for you on the menu as the main meal and you will be really disappointed when you eat that. Almost any food court fast food restaurant in Toronto has better vegetarian options for you with only a portion of the price you pay here for it! Dietary restrictions: No such a thing as dietary restrictions in this restaurant! They have an old fashion menu with no vegetarian or dietary indications at all! Sadly, when it comes to accommodate different individuals, theyre very old fashion and behind the times we live in.
I called the day before my birthday to make an appointment, but was told that I didnt need to make an appointment and could come directly the next day. When I arrived on my birthday, the service lady had a particularly bad attitude and told me that the appointment was full and there was no table left. But there were at least five empty tables on site. Its absolutely absurd. Whether the food is delicious or not, it really ruined my birthday
Best Hidden Gem on the East Side...and only keeps getting better!!!
Family style French restaurant, great service, however the food was not meeting my expectation, either too bland or too oily. Certainly not worth the waiting period for the reservation, also a question on pricing. The bread was nice though.
Found this place by accident and fell in love with it. People make this place feel like home)) and desserts - incredible!!!! If you like macaroons - ask if they have it like a dessert of the day.
Best classic french food in TO. Amazing souffle.
Outstanding and truly memorable - a total gem of a bistro and a spectacular experience. The food was absolutely incredible and I cannot say enough about the kind and hospitable service the two of us received. A truly boutique style French spot with all of the charm, all of the flavour, all of the warmth, and none of the stuffiness or pretension one might expect. We will remember this meal, this experience, this evening and this staff for years to come. We are already planning our next visit. Thank you, Batifole.
One of the few restaurants in Toronto that is worth eating at these days. Delicious and authentic French food. Service is always amazing!
This place has amazing French cuisine at a price point that s pretty reasonable. I d definitely recommend going with their steak and bone marrow! The cut of steak isn t what you would typically see at one of these upscale restaurants but the pairing with the bone marrow made a lot of sense and made it taste like it was wagyu!! Everything was beautifully seasoned. I d definitely come back again
Wonderful food and great service. Will be coming back! The cassoulet and scallops especially were delicious!
I had dinner at Batifole last evening. It was absolutely SUPERB . The food was beyond exquisite and the atmosphere was Pure France . I have lived and dined in Toronto for 4 decades. And been to France many times. This was the best Meal I have had in Toronto . Ever !! The truffle entree was delicious , the duck confit was divine , and the lemon tart with raspberries was the best I have ever tasted. And the chef came out To greet us at the end of the meal in true Parisian fashion . I hesitated to share This only because I know I will have a difficulty getting a reservation if others discover this French gem right here in Toronto.
Love coming back to this beautiful french / cozy restaurant. Their service and foods are to die for . I love how authentic their food is, always gives me the Parisian vibes . hanger steak with bone marrow Is my fav dish , and their appetizers Yummzzz!! Definitely recommend this place .
Amazing food and fantastic service!
Five star restaurant in the heart of Leslieville beautiful French food
Amazing food, incredibly kind and thoughtful staff, and a fantastic experience overall.
The duck was heavenly good. Highly recommend this place. Much better than most of brand name restaurants in downtown.
After my posting, I realized another client recently 1 month ago gave a star 1 with a similar experience, which might indicate that, unfortunately, the restaurant might not pay too much attention to client review regarding for the same issue I really like the atmosphere but had a bad experience with the service within the restaurant. I had dinner in this restaurant before and recommended my friend to go here together. However this time I had one of my worst experiences within a French restaurant in Toronto. I had dinner with my friend, the staff, and his name is Charles, was chatting with my friends during the whole time and ignoring me as a client. I felt like he treated me like a blank and like I was not there. I felt not appropriate and ignored as a client. After several times being treated like I was not in the table, I was not able to focus on the food and was thinking about that I will never come here again and not recommend this place to anyone again. If I was not with my friend and was not care about her feeling and our dinner, I would get off the table and leave right away. As a client pay the same amount and been polite to the staff all the time, I felt this the type of service I received is highly unprofessional. Highly not recommend and will not come again. I was kind enough to give him a good rating and good tip. But if I got any chance again, I won t pay any tip.
Cute little French restaurant with great food & service! Everything was reasonably priced too. Duck confit is a must try, so is their steak with bone marrow. Small but decent wine list. Chef came out to say hi to everyone which was nice.
Excellent dinner!! Service was amazing and people are kind. The food is awesome. Its the second time we came and sure we will be back.
Overall a nice dining experience, good and quick service. The charcuterie board and beef tartar were good but a bit too salty to my taste. I really enjoyed the Raclette braised pork cheek main course, definitely the highlight of the evening. The restaurant is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but that s something to be expected in Toronto.
Delicious French food. The duck is easily the most popular dish there.
Absolutely lovely place with amazing customer service and great food. Loved the scallops, hanger steak and soufflé ! The chef came around and asked how the food was as well which so thoughtful. Overall great place and did not disappoint
We were invited to a birthday celebration here. Our first visit was a great one. We werent too hungry so we didnt order much but everything we ate was delicious. I cant say enough about the soufflé...this is a must try! Well be back here again for sure. If youre in the neighbourhood you should check them out! Great French cuisine.
The restaurant looks a bit shabby on the outside. The menu is seasonal, and the specialties of fried duck and scallops have been retained. The fried duck is really good. The second tape was a bit mushy. I found that the arrangement of the straps often changes. daily soup feels average. Also ordered a pork. It felt very salty halfway through the meal. I was a little disappointed to see three hairs on tonights tablecloth and pre-dinner bread. But the service is still very enthusiastic. It doesn t feel as amazing as Xiaohongshu and Google review say. The overall feeling of the dishes is that the fried duck is 5 points, the scallops are 4 points, the pork is 3 points, and the daily soup is 2 points. Overall, the meal averages 3.5 points.
The place was lovely, the wine list was impeccable and the soufflé was to die for! Despite the incredible fare, what surprised us the most was the very blatant way the serving staff only referenced my white, male partner. All three of them, including two male and one female staff member, directed each check-in, each question, each moment of conversation to my husband. It left me feeling like an invisible piece of furniture. I don t know if it was my colour or my gender, but it sucked and I think there are plenty of equally wonderful restaurants in this city where I will feel more welcome so I ll go to those next time.
Classic French bistro fare, everything was very tasty. I would 100% recommend for anyone craving authentic French food. One note is that the wine list is very limited and they do not allow corkage, this was a bit of a bummer since the food deserves better wine.
The food is traditional and perfectly made, the environment is pleasant during the day and romantic at night, and the service is bilingual.
The food tastes really bad! Not worth it at all. Definitely not recommended!
Nice place with outstanding food and service! Vegetarian options: The vegan option (Butternut and squash cannelloni) was very tasty. Food : 5/5 |
Great staff, great food
Cozy and homey very tasty French food. Taste wise would likely be Michelin 1 star if location, venue, and decor was improved. Portion sizes are very decent. Friendly staff. Solid price point dinner. Surprised not on Michelin guide. Taste 4.3/5
Trivia: This building (before Batifole) was used for the Asian restaurant scene at the end of A Christmas Story.
Absolutely fantastic food and a wonderful Atmosphere with above and beyond staff. Highly, Highly, recommend coming here for a tasty dish
Very friendly waitresses. Delicious food! Food
Staff was nice and friendly and the food was amazing ! Would definitely recommend you try it out !!
Quaint and unassuming, this is one of the better french restaurants in Toronto worth the visit. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and experience. Would definitely reccomend and will go again !
Some of the best French food Ive had in Toronto and the service was perfect too. The tartare, cassoulet, and soufflé were all excellent. Looking forward to going back lots. A real gem.
was there last night with 3 couples. Great food and real personal service....highly recommend.
Wonderful dinning experience. Staff are very friendly. Love the pickled veggies, very refreshing and not too salty( that s a big plus) beef tartare a bit heavy on capers, scallops a bit salty but still tasty. I guess I should order a glass of wine instead cocktail for better pairing. Main dishes are something hard to find in Toronto. They focus of the meat/fish instead of greasy sauce and lethal amount of salt. Duck breast, juicy tender savoury, A plus. Fish of the day, love the sour mushroom and creamy bok Choy combination . (soft but not mushy) Macarons: chef s show off signature piece. I prefer macaron over soufflé. PS: main&dessert serve larger portions than average, easy on appetizers or share the dessert. However the baked apple in the duck is so good I baked two butter apple when I got home last night.
From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the whole service and dinner until the moment we left; it felt like I was back in France. We will definitely be back. By the way, the 20ish minute wait for the soufflé is well worth it.
Not really too sure why this place has such a great rating. Its very expensive, for one, compared to other French restaurants, and the food is not particularly amazing either, with rather small portions. For context, I went as a group of 4, and only one of us actually enjoyed the dish ordered (a cassoulet). Also, the service leaves much to be desired. One of us ordered a raw fish dish. The taste was very off-putting with a foul odour, as if the fish had gone bad. When my friend notified the server of this, it was taken away wordlessly, but we werent given any replacement, so my friend went hungry. The worst part is, we had to wait 20 minutes for the bill, which still had the dish that we didnt even eat. To avoid!
Just stumbled on this place. What a find!! Everything is fantastic!!!!!
Always perfect!
This resto exceeded my expectations it was awesome. The food was fantastic, great atmosphere and friendly staff
Amazing experience! Having been to France on a semi-regular basis, the only thing that would make this place more authentic would be if the tables were moved closer together (as per the European standard). The owner is lovely, and the chef is both talented and engaging. Absolutely great value for the money in terms of what you get in both the food, and overall experience.
Perfect spot for a romantic date night, hangout with a friend or a casual dinner with yourself or anyone else who can appreciate a good meal. One of our favourite spots in the city, you will not be disappointed
Loved the food service and atmosphere. Highly recommend. Try it for yourself.
Good
Really good French food! Batifole has a nice atmosphere and a place to have a special dinner.
Absolutely fabulous. The food is phenomenal and the soufflé cooked to perfection
Jai celebré mon anniversaire avec mes copains au Batifole and recommend this gem for any special occasion. The menu, the intimate and familial approach is like a warm embrace.
Comme à la maison! I highly recommend this place. The duck is exquisite!
Cozy French restaurant with great food and service.
Friday night for a date night and couldn t have picked a better spot. Impeccable food, lovely atmosphere with hum of conversation over music softly playing. Good for smaller groups (2-4) but they do have a 6-top. We shared the cheese starter, rack of lamb had us slicing off every sliver and then the perfect soufflé. Very reasonably priced, recently went to unnecessarily pricey spot on Avenue and this was far better. Staff are wonderful and the chef himself stopped by to check that all was to our liking. 100% will return and recommend to friends.
Well
Overpriced $500+. Basic service.
Overpriced, over-salted, and under-delivered. Michelin star prices for tourist trap quality. This was the worst meal I have eaten in recent memory. Spending $500 on a dinner for two left me feeling robbed. I have always been skeptical of event-based set menus but decided to give Batifole the benefit of the doubt. Unfortunately my instincts were correct as the menu disappointed on almost every level. My partner and I arrived at Batifole last night with excitement and high expectations. We were greeted immediately by the host and promptly seated. The first thing we noticed were the place-mats on our table. They were wilted, old and cheap. The set menu ($150 per person) started with a truffle fois gras crème brûlée which was clearly premade and an interesting choice for an amuse bouche. The caramelized sugar was cold and the fois gras was bland and had absolutely no trace of truffles. The appetizer was worse. We both chose the seabass tartare which was almost inedible. The fish was slimy and over-salted. The tomato mousse was creamy, heavy and slimy. We thought the bread would make it more enjoyable but it was cold. Going into the main courses, my partner and I were ready to go home. We both had the baked sole fillet. When it arrived, there was no filet to be found. The fish was in a cylindrical shape and covered in sauce. It appeared to be a fish loaf; not as advertised. I powered through it but my partner could not. She asked for it to be packed away. Not even a question from the staff. Two more courses to go. At this point it was laughable and we bonded with guests at the table next to us on our shared displeasure with the experience. I took bathroom break to work myself up to finish what I had started. The bathroom was dingy, dim, cold and smelled of stale cigarettes. The pre-dessert dish was fourme d ambert millefeuille which consisted of runny blue cheese between sheets of filo pastry. It wasnt bad but there was a strange, sweet cream on the side that none of us knew what to do with. Finally, dessert. I ordered the macaron and my partner the chocolate cake. This was the worst macaron I had ever tasted. It was extremely hard. I could barely cut it with my knife, as the photo suggests. It tasted like stale fruit loops. I told the waitress and received a blank stare. The chocolate cake was nice but not enough to save the disaster we endured. At the price point, Batifole should be ashamed of what they served. What was supposed to be a nice night out turned into a regrettable experience. If you know food, dont take the other reviews seriously. I hope the chef improves and treats his customers better in the future. One star is generous.
Came here before one of the Candlelight shows. I had booked over the phone and when we arrived they already knew my party had a show to head to and were working to help us get out on time. Walked away from our meal feeling like this is currently the best classical French restaurant in the city. Servers are attentive and everything on the menu is spectacular.
Cozy and intimate French restaurant on the East End of Toronto. Staff are very friendly and attentive. One of my favorite places for a lovely evening dinner.
This place is by far one of the most authentic and delicious restaurants in Toronto. A very rare gem that actually sells genuinely good food for a good price with people that actually care about your experience. I really felt like I was back in France with the creative decor around me and hearing the waitresses speak to each other in French. The food was mouthwatering and I never thought I could ever taste something so good on Toronto. The appetizers were beautiful and delicious, and the cassoulet was absolutely to die for. The soufflé felt like I was eating a cloud straight from heaven. I feel like 5 stars is not nearly enough to do this place justice.
Celebrated birthday with my husband. Food and drinks are excellent. Will definitely come back again!
Overall a great experience. Dish portion is a little on the bigger side. I really enjoyed the tartare steak appetizer. It s very well seasoned.
If theres fine cuisine in heaven, it probably looks like Batifole.
5 The amazing blend of flavors, intimate cuisine, atmosphere is the best. The chefs talents are present in every dish. Highly recommend for an experience of a taste of . Thank you!
Had a really great time here. Perfect little restaurant that isnt too crowded. Food was delicious although the fish of the day was a little dry. The duck was scrumptious and would definitely go back just to order that. Cocktails were tasty and creative. Perfect for a date night!
Fantastic, unpretentious, delicious. We arrived as a party of 5 and we were treated very well by the server, who was able to recommend a number of great dishes. I had the duck confit leg and breast, which was stellar. Cooked perfectly and perched on a lovely potato galette. My friends ordered the beef tartare (excellent), the scallops(perfectly cooked and delicious), the top sirloin steak (also cooked perfectly and delicious), and the fries (out of this world!!). As we were wrapping up the meal, the chef visited every table to say hello and ask about the meal. This brought our evening to a very satisfying close and we all agreed that Batifole is one of the best restaurants on the east side. If you know, you know ;)
Such a cute little cozy French restaurant. Had an amazing experience here. Atmosphere was great, service was great, the food was better than expected as well.
The best French restaurant I have been to! The food was delicious especially the cuisse de canard confite. The desserts were also all delicious. I loved the soufflé. Service was good and ambience was nice too.
4.8/5 Fantastic meal! The food is excellent and the host and server couldn t have been more pleasant. We started with the Cassolette d Escargots and Tartare De Boeuf which were both tasty. The escargots come in a soup which wasn t my favourite, but otherwise, both were great picks. For mains, we tried the Fish of the day (red snapper) and the Hanger Steak. Both wonderful dishes with such great flavours and textures. For dessert, we chose the Tarte Tatin which was also very delicious. The chef came out to greet guests mid evening which was a nice gesture. The servers were also very hospitable and did everything possible to make our meal a pleasant one. Overall, it was an exceptional experience. We will definitely be back!
This is by far the best French restaurant in Toronto and there is no comparison
Simplement le meilleur/ simply the best! This is a gem!! Best soufflé in town (if not in North-America!). Everything is just fabulous. I am already planning my next dinner there. Thank you for such a beautiful night Food
Everything was great, its not easy to get a reservation and I understand why. It did not disappoint. I cannot wait to go back.
Best meal weve had in a while. Ordered the cassoulet, red snapper, scallops, and soufflet. Atmosphere was great, would definitely go back.
From the Bonjour to the Au revoir we were extremely well served. We were never rushed but the service was always attentive to our needs. The menu is not large but has something to satisfy everyone and all our choices were wonderful. And the dessert souffles were worth waiting for too. Batifole is a favorite choice for us and Chef Pascal always comes out to greet patrons to ensure we enjoyed our meals.
A genuine French cuisine experience. Had the duck confit, sardines, and souffle. All of them were spectacular. The staff were friendly, inviting and very knowledgeable.
Just came back from France so decided on a French Bistro! Turns out the chef is from Avignon where we visited. Food was excellent, staff was also excellent and it was quiet and very nice. Cassoulet, pan fried scallops, seafood ceviche, beef tartar.....and whatever the Lobster dish was were all excellent as was the wine. Definitely will go back.
Subtle gem of a place - food and proper wine pairing takes you through an experience, it s like eating a novel. Yum!
Wonderful unpretentious French food
Had dinner here last year with a dear friend who recommended this quaint French bistro in the Riverdale neighbourhood. Recenlty celebrated an anniversary dinner with my partner and had the such an enjoyable evening. Had their featured summer cocktail, seared scallops and escargot for apps, continued with roast lamb as main paired with Sablet, and finished it off with sweet baba au rhum! Will be back for sure. Reservations recommended.
My wife and I had dinner there last night. It was an excellent experience; good wine, great food, and very good service. We highly recommend this restaurant. We will be returning on our next trip to Toronto.
Excellent food and excellent service with a smile what more do you need!!!
Delicious food and great service
This is a restaurant that my partner and I have been meaning to visit for a few years. We finally did it and I regret not visiting Batifole sooner. This is an east end gem!!! We had dinner on the patio this visit, and we both loved it. It was a very cozy and inviting outdoor space. I cant wait to visit again in the colder months to try the indoor seating. The service from start to end was great, every person working at the restaurant was attentive, professional and friendly. Their attention to detail is impeccable. Now the most important part is the food...incredible. I have nothing but the highest praise, some of the best French cuisine that this city has available. If you havent tried Batifole yet, it is a very easy streetcar ride to Gerrard and Degrassi Street (a favorite Toronto landmark), then its a very short walk east along the north side of Gerrard. Thanks again for the wonderful experience, I will be returning with friends soon!!!
4.8/5. came here for a birthday. service could not be more pleasant. food could not be more delicous. clientele could have been better dressed. music could have been anything but 2010s millennial pop.
#Batifole is a favorite French restaurant of my husband, so we had to visit there. He lived in Paris for a couple years so it was nice to experience a tiny bit of what he loved, the cuisine. We met his daughter at the restaurant as well. The three of us started with Kir Royale drinks, a welcome drink. Food started with house made bread, and French butter. We also ordered a delicious chef soup #tomatoGarlicGazpacho which was amazing, and #AssiettesDeFromage a selection of French cheeses which were yummy. For mains we enjoyed #CuisseDeCanardConfite Duck leg confit and sliced duck breast on top of a potato galette, served with caramelized peach sauce. So tasty, great complimentary flavors. The Duck was cooked perfectly. We also enjoyed a hearty #CassouletRoyal Rustic baked white beans, 1/2 duck leg confit, homemade pork sausage, and pork belly. It was nice, warm, and inviting. The Cassoulet had great tomato flavor with fantastic meats that melted in my mouth. The homemade sausage had a lot of flavor. For desserts we enjoyed a beautiful, rich, sublime #ChocolateDelice Chocolate mousse and Breton biscuit, chocolate and caramel glaze. We also waited the 30 minutes to enjoy, a first for me, #GrandMarnierSoufflé It was Delicious simplicity and superbly executed. Amazing is all I can say about the Soufflé. The service was amazing, the food was top of its class, the company exquisite. I see why my husband enjoyed his time in France and loved the cuisine. We don t know why Michelin has over looked Batifole Gourmand we can t recommend it enough. We do appreciate that we can still easily make a reservation and eat at this wonderful, intimate Bistro.
The food is rich, and comforting. The service, and atmosphere make you feel at home. Great value for an incredible experience!
Best French restaurant in Toronto.
We had a beautiful dinner. Fish and scallops were excellent!
The cutest little Parisian restaurant that can resemble your fave Paris restaurant when you need it. Came here for my birthday and greeted with friendly staff. Beautiful quaint restaurant with good food, nice touches from the staff and chef checking in on your food and experience. Will definitely come back again and if you end up not being able to book a table, call the restaurant because sometimes there s an opening that s not showing online. Definitely a must try and will be back again.
Thank you for our wonderful dinner
Loved everything in this restaurant, the service was absolutely amazing,
Resturant is great Location is in a very nice downtown area Inside looks very nice and the hospitality is great Food is great and very good portions Service is 10/10 and chef comes and ask how is everything
Quaint place with outstanding food and service
We had such a wonderful meal here last night. We had the Pink 75 cocktail, scallops, duck confit, hanger steak with bone marrow, and a delightful quince tart to finish. The service was warm & inviting. The table next to us were clearly regulars, and they leaned over to share their frites with us, as we hadn t ordered them! So nice! They are a must try for our next visit. The chef came out a few times to see how everyone was enjoying their meals. As we left we made another reservation to return after their Christmas break.
Fun fact: Filming location of the Chinese Christmas dinner scene in A Christmas Story! Judging by the owners response to a vapid food critic, Ill definitely be stopping by the next time Im in the City.
Wonderful Valentine Dinner!
Fantastic food! Very rich and flavour
Could not have had a better evening dining out at Batifole last night. There is a reason why this place has been around for so long. Chef came out to say hi to some regulars and then also took the time to greet us too. My cuisse de canard confite was perfection. Crispy skin, meat tender and moist, the outside of the potato gallette nice and crunchy even though it was sitting atop a rich gravy. Friend ordered the catch of the day which was a John Dory. Presentation was beautiful, with a topping that must have needed surgical type precision. Other friend ordered apps. The fries are nice and crispy on the outside and so soft inside. Again, perfection. Her soup and salad looked good but didnt try. Wait staff could not have more welcoming, more professional or efficient. Love Batifole! Will be going back and taking the fiance, my mom and anyone else who will come with me :)
Wow. An absolutely fantastic dining experience. The cuisine is stellar and the atmosphere perfect. Strongly recommended. Cest fantasique!
Absolutely delicious. Although I am no pro in French cuisine, the food here was skillfully executed with lots of love and experience. The fresh in house made bread to the apricot with duck leg to the richly bodied demi glace sauce, nothing was bad. A hidden little gem in old Chinatown. The chef and servers have something real and amazing going on here.
Great french food, although a bit on the expensive side. The owner/chef is very nice and personally greets you in the restaurant
Try the frogs legs!! The best I ve ever had. The soufflé was bomb too. Great place. Glad I came here.
A friend who lives in the area found this place just by chance and invited us there last night. Wow! What a surprise! The food is as good as anything in Paris! And the service was impeccable!
Delicious food and hospitable servers. The entire experience was wonderful and the staff was very welcoming!
Favourite French restaurant in Toronto! Delicious food and great staff!
Great spot for very authentic French food. Everything here was fantastic. We got the duck confit and the fish of the day. Both were very satisfying. The service here is exceptional and the chef stepped out into the dining area to see the guests. The souffle is quite large and will serve two.
We stopped for dinner before our Candlelight Concert up the street & left completely amazed. The food was delicious and perfectly made.
The ambience was lovely and charming. The staff were polite and friendly. The food was well-prepared and well-presented. I had the charcuterie, the escargot, and the wagyu steak. Everything was delicious. Our server recommended an excellent wine pairing for the beef. Overall, its a beautiful restaurant--perfect for a romantic evening or a special occasion.
Absolutely mouth watering. The service was lovely. My only complaint is that I haven t been here sooner!! Definitely coming back. Merci beaucoup.
Amazing , will come back!!
Amazing food and customer service! Totally worth it!
The dishes and dessert were amazing! A little France inside Toronto! I felt like I was there! The dishes and desert were amazing. A little France inside Toronto! I felt like I was there! Los platos y el postre eran increíbles. ¡A poco de Francia in Toronto! ¡Sentí que estaba allí!
I wish i was not leaving the city..this place had been on my list to try before moving out of toronto and it didnot disappoint at all & now i want to try the entire menu esp the desserts.. the restaurant had the perfect mix of good (read excellent and beautiful) food, feels of a fancy restaurant with the comfort of a small place with friendly people..I loved how the chef and the staff all interacted with us like we belonged ..lol..make a reservation before you go..they were nice enough to find us seats but we might not have been lucky..
Excellent! Super attentive service, delicious food, classics executed flawlessly. Decor is kitschy, but in a good way. Can get loud some textiles might help, but great atmosphere!
A most pleasant dining experience! The food and ambiance were fantastic. The servers were especially welcoming. Great cheesy potatoes
Sparkling water is $9. Yep, NINE DOLLARS.
Wow - I wish I had discovered this place before. From food to service, everything was excellent. Thank you for an amazing dining experience, we will be back!
Excellent service and the food tasted great & amazing cocktails. Would love to return.
Authentic, friendly, atmosphere and delicious - exceptional!
Always an exquisite gastronomic experience. Their food is nothing short of art.
Excellent French restaurant in the east end of Toronto. Everything we tried was delicious and the service was fast and friendly.

gorgeous space, impeccable service, the food is perfectly executed classic French cuisine. absolutely loved my experience here
Absolutely the best authentic French food Ive eaten in Toronto. Great little outside patio, excellent service and I highly recommend this little gem on Gerrard.
Thankfully I left eating here until the last day of my trip to Toronto: I am a foodie, and my culinary journey started way back as a chef with classical French cuisine. Today was a chance to sample French food outside Europe. My partner & I chose Confit duck & Black cod (poisson du jour) & a dauphinois. Super presentation on both, & beautifully cooked too. The soufflé & tart citron to finish. Easy service through the evening, laid back and not intrusive. Happy to return another time.
Average French food and exceptionally slow service. Wasnt worth the visit!
It is one of my favourite places in the entire city. It s close to my house so I go often with my husband and we ve never had a bad meal or time. Our last visit we shared the cassoulet, tartar, cheese plate, potatoes au gratin and chambord soufflé. I drank a perfectly balance French martini. The style of service is laid back with experience. Chef came out to say hello and see how our meal was, as always, and had a wonderful chat with us. We highly recommend
Overall very nice experience with great staff as well. Food & drinks are good! Will be back to try more options off there menu.
Just happened to pass by this little French bistro and Im so happy we did! Casual and classic French dining. They have a cute little patio. I recommend you make reservations. This is not the place to come to if youre in a hurry. This is the place you come to when you want to slowly enjoy and give yourself a bit of a breather in between courses. The servers were lovely and knew the menu well. They checked on us regularly! Everything was so good! We may have over ordered but I suppose thats what happens when almost everything on the menu appeals to you. Cant wait to go back! We had: Pan Seared Scallops: served with fennel compote, lemongrass hollancaise - large scallops and oh so delicious! Cassolette d Escargots: pan seared escargots, vegetable brunoise, amaretto & cream served with crostini - loved that it was saucy so that we could dip our bread into it and enjoy every last bit. Country Style Paté served with crostini - great taste and texture. Truffle Zucchini Royale: topped with smoked eel tartare - really enjoyed the different textures of this dish. Cassoulet Royal: Rustic baked white beans, duck confit, pork sausage & pork belly - heavier and richer than we had anticipated. Good thing we were all sharing. Every last bit was enjoyed. Cuisse de Canard Confite: Confit duck leg & sliced duck breast with potato gallette & caramelized apple sauce - well prepared, not overly salty or dry. Angus Hanger Steak: Served with potato mousseline, bordelaise sauce - we couldnt get over how good the sauce was! Soufflé au Grand Marnier - be sure to save room for dessert. This is a must try! Lemon and raspberry tart - simple and fresh.
Great service and everything is delicious - must go back again to try other items!
Amazing service & food! Great atmosphere, definitely recommend going here for a fancy date. 10/10
Neighborhood gem. Had the duck confit and soufflé (absolutely worth the wait). Great service (the chef even comes to the table to greet you and the servers were so friendly), cozy ambiance and most importantly: delicious, delectable food. 5/5.
I ve been a patron of Batifole since Jean-Jacques was the owner. I have to say, not only has Pascal carried the torch, he s actually taken the restaurant to a higher level. Every time I come back, the quality of the food, presentation and execution gets better and better. Thank you Pascal, Amelie and the team at Batifole for making this one of my favourite restaurants in the city.
We came for our anniversary dinner and the food and drink were fabulous. The place was very busy yet the service was always timely, informative and charming.
Amazing little restaurant with super friendly staff. The Chef made us travel through Provence with exquisite products produced in Ontario. Will be back!!
A quaint, wonderful bistro. As soon as you step in, your transported to France. The service and food is impeccable and we even got a visit from the Chef after our meal. Highly recommend!
The food was delicious. Authentic French. Sirloin, duck, and the soufflé are incredible.
Authentically french, great atmosphere Loved it
This restaurant is absolutely delightful! We seated at the patio which is very charming and quiet, the service is very attentive and the food...divine!! At the table we ordered the escargots, the cassoulet, the duck and the lava cake, everything was excellent! I highly recommend this restaurant, and will go again when feeling homesick! Thank you Batifole!
Absolutely delicious! Such a cute local French restaurant on the east end of Toronto. The dishes were flavourful and well prepared. Love the friendly staff and when the chef came out to say hello and check how we were doing. I would come back to try the other items on the menu.
Phenomenal. Excellent quality, excellent service.
food: 9.5/10 - perfect, but some dishes some may not like service: 9/10 - waiter super friendly, knew a lot about the menu but couldve came around a bit more for water refills and such variety: 9/10 - good selections of everything cleaness: 10/10 - the cleanest washrooms, tables, and environment in general
Great food ! Great service ! Will go back ! Thanks
Went here with my partner before attending a concert. The food and atmosphere were divine! If you do attend here, make sure to reiterate your allergies. I was disappointed with the service as I was told that the items my partner and I ordered DID NOT contain nuts. Once our charcuterie board arrived, they mentioned that PISTACHIOS were present in the pâté. In addition, the soufflé contained HAZELNUTS. They were able to accommodate and create a soufflé afterwards without the nuts, however, it would have saved us a lot of time had these allergies been taken into serious consideration. Just a recommendation to the owners that in the future, please confirm whether certain ingredients customers are allergic to are in the food ordered instead of being uncertain.
Truly felt like it captured the French bistro atmosphere and vibe while also delivering exceptionally hearty and delicious food.
Little piece of France in Toronto. Absolute gem. Amazing food and service - highly recommend to all that love authentic French food.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Such a little gem of a restaurant!
Incredible food, service and ambiance. I cannot wait to go back! I had the pork, it was cooked perfectly.
We ve been coming here for a long time. Always a delight! Great food and friendly staff. You do get a bit of the oh la la France when here :)
Incredible food, loved the atmosphere and the creative cocktails were delicious!
Best french restaurant in Toronto. The food never fails to be outstanding, the wine is a brilliant selection, and the staff are lovely. One of my favorite restaurants. And it s in a totally approachable part of town, just a stones throw east of centre. Vegetarian options: The chef is totally flexible Parking: Parking is always easy to find. Kid-friendliness: My six year old loves it
A favourite place for date night for my husband and I. Have loved every fish special I ve had over the years. Recommend making reservations.
