Every dish we ordered was fantastic, and we were all very impressed — hats off to the chefs! I've already boasted about the meal to many friends, and I'm likely to daydream about the duck all week. The flavours were excellent, and everything was cooked to perfection. My allergies were well looked after, which is always appreciated. The drinks were good, but I can't say they're anything special. With the plethora of cocktail/wine bars in the city, it can be hard to stand out, and the gin martini in particular fell a bit flat. That being said, I really enjoyed the dessert wine — Dudon Sauternes. We clearly enjoyed the l'Ecu as well. Service was good, but it felt understaffed and details were understandably missed (i.e. candied pecans on the side; wine with the duck). The staff were friendly, personable, and worked well together as a team. We expected a touch more attentiveness and less rushing off for 5/5 stars. All in all, it was a highly enjoyable experience, and I can't wait to come back!

We had a brunch to celebrated our anniversary in Chantecler,, the food was great, we ordered 4 dishes, beef tartare, oysters, French onion soup and the beef tongue. The beef tongue is a must try dish , absolutely delicious and make sure you have the onion soup too. Btw, we sat next to the huge windows, the atmosphere was great, the light lit up the food and makes it look even better for photos. Also Alex is super friendly if I remember his name correctly 😄.

10/10 experience. The commitment to quality is obvious here. A relaxed, laid back, yet elevated dining experience. Went here for brunch and everything blew us away— the service the second we walked through the door, the atmosphere, the food, OMG the food, everything was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and interesting! Can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu!

We were here for brunch. Nice ambience and cosy atmosphere. The food was overally pretty salty and need more balance in terms of flavor. The stewed beans did not feel fresh and the steak was on the tough side. The duck confit was quite dry. Their dinner may be better.

Went for my dad’s birthday a couple of weeks ago and we had a great time. When we first walked in they offered to take our coats which was nice since it’s winter and coats take up a lot of space at the table. Happy hour is till 6 pm and they had an assortment of cocktails and appetizers on the happy hour menu so we got a couple to start us off. It’s recommended to share because they’re menu is set like family style so we got 4 main dishes to share plus my mom had the cutest French onion soup! I would highly recommend going to the bar for a snack and a drink or coming for a special occasion! I can’t wait to come back here :)

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here at Chantecler. Each dish was prepared with care and the taste pairing was absolutely exquisite. The flavours were fully developed, making for each bite to be balanced. Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly, showing careful attention to serving etiquette such as having the label face us when pouring our wine. I would love to visit again!

Last night, we had dinner here as a group of four, and the experience was disappointing. My friend asked the waitress to cook its food (Rack of Venison) to medium, she claimed it would take another 20 minutes how could that be, given it just needed a little more cooking? After speaking to the manager, she reluctantly agreed, but her initial attitude was dismissive and unprofessional. The rest of the dishes weren t any better. One of us ordered the tort, which was shockingly small barely half the size of a palm and came without any sides like potatoes or beans. I ordered Lions Mane mushroom dish, and found a piece of plastic in it! When I informed the waitress about this, she didn t even apologize and just said, Let me talk to my manager. When the manager finally came, he offered to replace the dish or, shockingly, suggested I could just continue with this. His attitude made it clear he didn t feel any genuine regret or concern for such a serious mistake. Frustrated with their poor service, bad attitude, and lack of accountability, we decided to leave and went to another restaurant. This place does not care about its customers or the quality of their food definitely not coming back!

December 22, 2024

I was part of the group that dined here last night, and I have to say the experience was far from satisfactory. I ordered the Rainbow trout, which turned out to be laughably small barely half the size of my palm and it didn t come with any sides like potatoes or vegetables. For the price, I expected a full meal, not just a token portion that left me hungry. The presentation was disappointing, and honestly, it felt like they weren t even trying. My other friends have also left reviews here about their terrible experience. From plastic found in one dish to a steak cooked wrong and met with an unprofessional attitude, it s clear this restaurant has serious issues with food quality and customer service. None of us are planning to come back, and we wouldn t recommend this place to anyone.

The atmosphere might be nice, but the way the staff treats people is something else entirely. I simply asked for my food to be cooked a bit more, and instead of handling it calmly and professionally, they made me feel like I was asking for the world. They went back and forth to the kitchen three times, then came back to tell me it would take 20 minutes. The real issue, though, wasn t the time it was their attitude. It felt dismissive, like they couldn t be bothered to provide basic courtesy. And as if that wasn t enough, someone at our table found a plastic piece in their food. I don t even want to get into how alarming that is because, honestly, what stuck with me most was how poorly the staff handled the situation. They weren t helpful, resourceful, or apologetic. To the owner: please don t leave a generic response here about striving to improve or offering a half-hearted apology. What you need to do is train your staff to treat your customers with respect and handle issues properly. Anything less won t fix what s going wrong.

I wish I could give zero stars. My experience at this restaurant was nothing short of a nightmare. While dining, we discovered a piece of plastic in our food, which is completely unacceptable and a serious health hazard. When we raised the issue with the staff, it took the manager a while to address us. When they finally did, their demeanour was shockingly nonchalant, as though this kind of incident was no big deal. There was no apology, no genuine concern, and their dismissive attitude made the situation even worse. Instead of addressing the gravity of the issue, they acted as if we were inconveniencing them. We were appalled by the lack of professionalism and basic respect. The manager s bad attitude and utter disregard for customer safety left us with no choice but to leave immediately. I would strongly advise against visiting this place. If they can t even handle food safety or customer service, I dread to think what else might be happening behind the scenes. Avoid at all costs!

Great food. Started with the duck liver pate which was wierd tbh, the saltiness of the pate and sweetness of the blueberry jam was a strange combination, felt halfway between a savory appetizer and a dessert, the scallops were excellent, seared perfectly, fresh and tasty, the steak tartare was really phenomenal, one of the best Ive had, the memory of the dish really stuck with me. Super lovely and friendly staff that fit us in on a busy night without a reso. We sat at the bar (tight space) and to our surprise there was a happy hour ($10 drinks and small bites, $2 oysters), we tried most of the dishes on it, but weren t wow d by any. Brioche and pastry were good found the tartare grisly, oysters were okay. Not sure I ll make a point to come back, But the staff were great

December 9, 2024

The duck breast is sooooooo salty you can t swallow it without drinking a litre of water the beef tartar portion is significantly smaller than some of the review pictures on google map. One of the waitress was kind of cold in attitude and didn t remind us of nuts containment in one of the dishes, those with allergies need to be more cautious. The only dish tasteful was the oyster which pretty much doesn t require any cooking skill. Overall it was not a good experience nor good food, it felt like money wasted.

Two people, two different eggs Benedict with potato and salad. 2 mimosas 2 coffees. The coffees were so weak they were like colored water. The salad was just spring mix without any dressing at all! The poached eggs were perfect but the hollandaise was like paste. The potatoes Daufins.... a solid wedge of grated potato deep fried and oozing of oil. Mimosas, 1 grapefruit and 1 tangerine were good.

Last night was chilly and rainy, a perfect contrast to the warm and wonderful evening at Chantecler. The service was impeccable and the food DIVINE. Some of us arrived earlier to partake in their happy hour (between 5-6pm) for oysters, oeuf mayonnaise, and brioche. The five of us shared the best-in-town steak tartare, the whole duck (swoooon, a must-try here), 20 oz ribeye (make sure to dip your fries in the gravy, don t waste a drop!), best fries in the city, and all four $9-sides listed: charred greens, green salad, mushrooms and beets. Every dish was fresh, delicious, and perfectly complimented each other for our family-style dinner. For dessert we shared the creme brûlée with room for nothing more. Thanks again Jacob and team for a memorable evening. Can t wait to return!

A charming French restaurant in downtown, with a DJ spinning tunes, but it might get too loud if you sit next to the station. Highlights: (Ranking from top fav) - Oysters: $2 each on weekends from 3-6pm. The watermelon mignonette sauce was amazing - Cabbage and mussels with cashew aioli, the crunchiness of the cabbage was so good - Half duck with sour cherry jus Decent: - Steak tartare - Duck liver mousse with scones - Smoked salmon parfait with waffle fries - Pissaladière, an open-face puff pantry Not a favourite: - Duck empanada The dishes serve a bit slow, but it was worth the wait.

Great French restaurant right on Bloor St! Delicious apps - ordered a steak tartare and mussels on charred cabbage which is were both amazing and well balanced! The half duck large plate was good but you need to order sides as it only comes w sliced duck breast and a duck confit leg. The leg was super soft and pairs really well with their Pino Noir! Their wax beans were okay but glad I tried this place out! Our server was also great and super friendly!

Came here for my wife s birthday. Service and ambience were fantastic. This location is more aesthetic than the original Queen St spot. Apps were mixed. The steak tartare was possibly the best I ve ever had. But the summer squash salad was the first inedible dish I ve had at a restaurant in a very long time no idea what the chef is thinking with that one (we re not picky eaters whatsoever). Duck was OK paired it with a salad which was a basic plate of arugula with a drizzle of olive oil and a few beets. Fries were solid; loved the aioli. Pork was OK seasoning could ve been better as it lacked flavour. I would come back for the steak tartare. Everything else was decent, but not exceptional.

August 23, 2024

I really enjoyed Chantecler at the old location. However I was disappointed tonight by the lack of service and the dishes. Tonight my friend and I went out for dinner. We waited a while for a server to come take our order. We ordered the following: Marinated Mussels 1/5 (not fresh) Tagliolini with Caviar 2/5 (confusing flavours) Half a duck 2/5 (so dry and chewy) Beef Tartar 3/5 The marinated mussels were not fresh. It had a strong fishy smell despite the citrus dressing. Honestly, the tagliolini with caviar was a confusing dish. The pasta was overcooked and soggy. The dill flavoured oil combined with the fishiness of caviar didn t make sense. I was looking forward to the duck but it was so disappointing. We waited for an hour for the duck, and by the time the dish arrived at the table, it was cold, chewy, and dry. While we waited for the duck, I asked another server to follow up in between but we continued to wait. Our actual server seemed unavailable for majority of the night. When we received the duck, I found our actual server to explain the issues. And she immediately shifted the blame onto us. According to her, if only we had finished the last plate (the pasta) on our table, she could have cleared it and served our main - the duck. Honestly, if that was her concern, she could have checked in on us, and not make assumptions. I expected better customer service at this type of establishment. All the tables around us received their food so quickly. Tables that arrived before us and later than us. It was an unpleasant way to end dinner especially when we travelled from uptown. What a shame.

We started out on the patio. But the seating was uncomfortable, padded chairs and wooden benches and table. Not conducive to dining, so we moved inside. Our server/hostess had a brusque edge that continued throughout our meal. Oysters were delicious, cold and served with fresh grated horseradish and mignonette. Smoked salmon pâté was also delicious but served with room temperature waffle fries which just didn t work. Small plate scallops were two to a plate, overcooked and served with a larger portion of unimpressive potatoes. The pork dinner was returned to the server as it was too tough and chewy to eat. It was replaced with the chicken dinner of which half was undercooked. At this point, nothing more was said. The wine bottled for the restaurant has strange pricing. At dinner time, it s $80., at Happy Hour it s $55. and for takeout it s $35. Quite a range, and definitely not $80. level. Crème brûlée was delicious but please mention to the diner if it s flavoured. This one was orange and not served the French style with a little dollop of cream. Not a return visit for us.

My boyfriend and I had dinner here, and I must say, this place offered a perfect evening experience. The service was very enthusiastic, although the environment was a bit noisy, making conversation slightly difficult. However, the atmosphere was fantastic, capturing the unique romantic and laid-back vibe of a French bistro. Scallops & Potatoes ($22): This dish was savory and perfect as a pairing with drinks. The scallops were fresh and flavorful, and the potatoes were soft and mushy. With the sauce, I felt like I could have half a bottle of white wine with this dish, too bad I m abstaining from alcohol. Steak Tartare ($24): Prepared in the classic French style, the taste was mild but enriched with hot sauce, adding a rich texture paired with crispy bread. The waiter highly recommended this dish, but I found it just average, perhaps because I expected more from a restaurant that claims to be the best French eatery in Toronto. Koji-Aged Heritage Pork ($32): The pork had a lot of fat, which I didn t eat, but the seasoning was good. If you don t like fatty pork, you might want to skip this dish. Half Duck ($45): The duck was delicious with crispy skin and tender legs. It was flavorful without any overpowering spices, and there was no off-putting smell, just the pure taste of duck. In this restaurant, you could skip everything else but do try the duck. Buttermilk Ice-Cream ($14): I m not sure if the ice cream was homemade, but it wasn t overly sweet, complemented well by the sauce and cookies, making it really tasty and refreshing. Overall, I really liked this restaurant for its warm service and high-quality food. The dishes were served a bit slowly, which truly gave the feeling of dining at a French restaurant. What a cozy little neighbourhood spot. We ordered a few small plates and one large one. Highly recommend the roasted squash (soo good), mushrooms, fries and steak tartare. The roast chicken was a bit of a letdown compared to the other dishes. The jus was good but the chicken wasn t anything too special. Dessert was excellent though and saved the vibes. Service was attentive. The person who seated us kindly made sure the (rather unwilling) people also seated at the bench made space for us and moved their coats/purses. But the tables are too small and it s difficult to navigate around them or even fit all the plates that come. There are other dishes I really want to try next time, so will for sure be coming back.

Follow @bredgyeats for more food pictures! Like my fixation on pork bone stew in Korean restaurants, French restaurants have their beef tartare. This tartare is finely diced and seasoned with all the traditional works topped with a creamy egg yolk and served with sourdough bread toasted in some yummy salted butter. The half duck portion is a combination of seared duck breast and a confit leg, and I appreciate not having to choose between the two, both brought together nicely with umami-packed duck jus and a sweet preserved quince jam.

I went here for the first time the other evening and was served (and unwittingly ate a bit of) raw chicken. After realizing the chicken was raw (Im talking fully uncooked-- not just a little pink), I pointed it out to the server who brought it back to the chef and confirmed the chicken was not cooked. They offered a replacement dish, though at that point my appetite was kind of ruined. Me and the people I was with didnt make too much of a fuss about the chicken as we have all worked in restaurants before, and mistakes do happen (though in fairness, for a restaurant this expensive, its a pretty bad mistake). What really shocked me though is that they only comped the chicken and not the replacement dishes or anything else for that matter. It felt like they were taking advantage of our goodwill and relaxed attitude about it. I ate raw chicken, man. Since I wasnt paying (it was my birthday and I was very kindly being treated by the people I was there with), I didnt say anything when they brought the bill. But man, Ill never go back. I felt sick later that evening. But at least the chicken that made me ill was free????

Not so pleasant. A good variety of wine selection as it should be for a French place. Reasonably priced. Steak tartare - perfect acidity, not too much sauce, as good as Cote debeouf Cabbage - cabbage and mussels harmony was lovely. Good grilling on cabbage. Creamy sauce Scallops - only 2 scallops and potatos. Good but not impressive Duck - tender legs, medium well breast. If the breast was undercooked a bit, would have been much better. Green beans - good texture, sauce and nuts Overall very good but none of the servers asked how the dishes were. Service could be improved.

We went to the chef Rodrigo Pacheco experience and were very disappointed., I invited some friends hoping to try A unique experience as advertised , we like tasting menus but this one was not a good one. Even the dinnerware used did not match with the food., we paid over 1500 for a group of 4 , for tasting menu the main were chicken , I tried many many restaurants and never got chicken as the end course, first course they used plastic leafs 2 of us had a bite of the small pieces of the plastic . Ceviche was mentioned on the menu, was 1 small shrimp. I know tastings are small bites however this was very tiny . . Lacked of flavour and paring, service was ok not great for the price. Chef quality and flavours still long road to be a good tasting experience.,we were looking forward for this day, planned with my friends felt sad and disappointed at the end .

The quality of food and drinks are top-notch! The barista put so much love and effort into the cocktails! Not to mention that I finally served the beer as it should be, in an ice cold glass! Intentions of being a regular here ended today (3rd time here). I brought friends here and often recommended this place to friends. Came here today with a guy friend and decided to order a whole duck and an appetizer because we wanted to eat it quickly and get cocktails somewhere else. Dave being our server, put our order down as half of a duck, and once I brought it up, he said don t worry, I will bring the other half, and only charge you for the whole duck. What does this supposed to mean Dave? Are you not supposed to? Later on, my friend and I were finishing the other half of the duck, Dave came by and asked us are we done with the duck while clearly it was half full and added the comment that s the best part and left. What do you really mean? Dave.

I promise this is truly my last time coming here. Food is overpriced, beer list is absolutely unimaginative and the service..oh the service was terrible. We were served by a waiter who I seriously thought was the owner and that they were short staffed. I never like to punch down but my impression of going to an overpriced FRENCH themed restaurant would include at least a mildly attractive server man or woman I dont care as I believe it truly adds to the overall experience. Our server was not in uniform and wearing a maroon t-shirt. Worst part was the facial hair and the fact that he kept bumping into the tables as he was pushing probably 250. I go to the gym, watch what I eat to stay in shape and Im not going to say anything about our server or lack of motivation but I guarantee customers will have a more pleasant experience if servers were swapped out....uniforms will go a long long way as well to tie in the French motif. Im sorry I dont want to ve served delicate french food by a lumberjack whos been in the backwoods for months...not a good start to a french meal. The food was good though...

Wonderful service, gorgeous ambiance and delicious, rich food. Every dish was a knock out! Our favourites were the cabbage & mussels (app), the mushroom and the duck (mains), and the fiddleheads with pistachio (side dish). Chantecler pays attention to detail in every element of their guests experience, from the smell of the hand soap in the washroom, to the music playing all evening long, to the menu covers. I cant recall our servers name but they were a perfect mix of professional, playful and involved. We also never felt rushed, which is a huge deal for us. 5 stars all around!!

Very good french restaurant, can definitely hold its own even if it is in France. Setting is intimate and cozy. Came here for apero hour. Oysters are simple, fresh, very well prepared. The star of the show however is the steak tartare. Definitely a must-try. Duck empanada was very flavourful too, along with the smoked salmon parfait. One item that was a little mediocre is the dill caviar egg. It wasnt bad by any means but the mayonnaise did not really seem to work that well. Service also felt impersonal but could be a one-off. Overall would visit again though! Definitely a must go for french food.

Edit: Went back to give it another try this past Sunday. Food was excellent and service was awesome! I ll be coming back, hopefully the experience we had previously was an off night. Food was good, but the service was so horrendous that I have to knock off 3 stars. We had a reservation, yet we still waited 15-20 min for the table; our drinks took around 30 min to arrive; staff expected us to clear the table for them not to mention a number of other instances of rude/weird behaviour from the staff. The restaurant was very busy, but there appeared to be no system in place to manage that this was especially apparent given that they did not seem understaffed (there were lots of staff around, and it s a smaller restaurant, so they should ve had it together). I wouldn t recommend it for the price point.

First off, i must say im very sad that the subs (that were available at the Queen West location deli across from Le Fenix) are no longer available. Ive been telling everyone who will listen they were THE best in the city. That being said, i came here for galentines brunch and we shared the French onion soup, beef tartare, steak frites, and croque monsieur. everything was delectable! I do wish the steak frites were more than 4 pieces though :( not sure if were too large for the booths but they were quite tight to get into, and towards the end of our meal there was a strange vinegar-y smell that was wafting around. This place was terrible. Service was actually atrocious. We had a reservation for 8:30pm for a friends birthday. We waited over 1 hour for our table and there was no apology whatsoever but the server did offer a lot of gaslighting, so that was great. After already waiting 45 minutes for our table and being told over and over that they would have it ready shortly, the server so kindly slapped a food menu down, quite rudely. Food was fine but the service, if that s what you want to call it, is what sent this in an even further downward spiral. The overall experience was brutal.

I am writing to provide feedback on my recent dining experience at your restaurant on Friday, February 2nd, at 5:00 PM. I regret to inform everyone that my friends and I had a disappointing encounter with the door guy, who also appeared to be the manager on duty. Throughout our visit, his demeanor was unprofessional and discourteous, which greatly impacted our overall experience. We observed instances of rudeness, including eye-rolling during the reception, and felt a sense of discrimination in his behavior. Unfortunately, the negative interaction with the door guy overshadowed our dining experience to the extent that we couldnt fully appreciate the taste of your food. However, I would like to commend our waitress for her excellent service, and as a gesture of appreciation, we left an 18% tip. As a food and life blogger, I believe in providing constructive feedback to help businesses improve their services. Therefore, I urge the management team to address the behavior of the individual in question and strive to deliver better customer service standards in the future. It is disheartening to witness such conduct in an otherwise reputable establishment like Chantecler. I sincerely hope that my feedback will be taken into consideration and contribute to the enhancement of your restaurants customer experience. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

When a server opens with over used line of we suggest that you share X number of dishes per person tells me they are more interested in driving up the bill than their guests experience. The place have some nice wines, although I found them overpriced especially for a 5oz glass. The beer list is unimaginative. We ordered the squash, whole chicken & fries. Presentation of the squash was nice. But it arrived at the table 20 minutes before the rest of the meal. When I mentioned to the server that we would wait until the rest of the dinner arrived, she told me that s just when it comes of out the kitchen. I m glad she enlightened me - my first time in a restaurant and all. (Could I suggest that between the kitchen and the server that they organize themselves so that I can eat dinner when it s hot and have all the elements arrived at once?). The dinner was laughable when the whole chicken finally arrived. Two legs, two breasts the server told us. Two small quail-sized breasts and two legs looking more like over cooked chicken satays arrived. I had to ask the server if this was the whole chicken. Of course, she scoffed. The fries were good. I don t understand the fuss about this place. My money walks

Nice little gem ! I would recommend it if you want a cosy but intimate atmosphere for a date. The service is really top notch and help pair well wine with mains. Some dishes in the menu were really amazing (brioche, tartare, beetroots) but others disappointed a little. The beef Wellington was fantastic taste wise but arrived a bit too cold and the fish we ordered was well over cooked. Being a bit picky here but for the price I would expect the mains to be perfect and as good as the small plates. The tartare could benefit for a pinch of salt too but personal preference here. Advice: Order many small plates (they probably master all of them) and half a duck for two with the beetroot on the side. Their duck, which is what we came for was not available when we came. But I would very much give it a try next time.

Also, I m a huge fan of a good, classic old fashioned. In speaking to the bartender, I was convinced into their signature version. Awful. Couldn t finish it. I didnt actually even get the chance to dine here. I attempted to cancel a reservation but couldnt get through. I was then charged a cancellation fee, which I understand. I called in the next day and said, Im actually hoping to come for dinner this evening, I couldnt change my reservation, is there any chance you can refund the cancellation fee, and Ill rebook for this evening? I ended up getting berated by whomever I was speaking to. It was clearly an owner or manager who I was speaking with. Then he hung up on me. So I called back and another manager/owner answered, who tried for a moment to gaslight me by saying, well Im sure the other manager explained to you that the cancellation fee was valid. To which I responded, he actually really didnt, he just raised his voice at me, how difficult it is to overstaff a restaurant based on reservations & then have empty tables. I even acknowledged I know the fee is auto-generated when you miss a reservation, I was just asking if that could be refunded so I could then come and spend that money as a diner. I know Chanteclers re-opening was highly anticipated & I very much doubt they have trouble getting guests in the door. The second manager I spoke to even said, well fill the seats, its not a problem. As well, I was asking for a refund on a cancellation fee to go spend quadruple as a diner in your restaurant, which you essentially denied. That is totally your choice, as a private business you can chose who you serve & who you dont. My experience with Chantecler is that if thats how you treat a fellow industry worker, your food could be Gods gift to cuisine and I still will not give my earned money to anyone/business that spoke to a guest over the phone like they did to me. This happened months ago when they re-opened, I didnt want to leave this poor review right as they were starting up again. Although, I still have not dined at Chantecler, I have heard from hospitality friends it is not like it used to be, and that *surprise surprise* staff can be pretentious. Which with management like I experienced, makes a lot of sense to me. The second manager I chatted with, did end up saying he was going to refund my cancellation fee & also consider lowering the fee moving forward. I told him, I really dont want the refund, I wont be dining there. He still insisted on refunding, which I really feel like he only did to save face at that point as that wouldve been an awful review for a business coming back. As well, I was actually attempting to dine there to give them a full food review, like mentioned, I will never eat there or recommend anyone to do so. The interaction left a sour taste in my mouth, I am not angry or annoyed by the cancellation fee, just more appalled by the reaction I got. I would ve accepted the response that it is a valid fee & to rebook a new reso, but instead I was berated as to why missing a reservation means they overstaffed unnecessarily, which again as being in the industry I understand is really frustrating for a business owner, I couldn t change that my friend fell ill. Theres much better french cuisine throughout the city that doesnt give you a minor anxiety attack to make just for a reservation modification.

My friend and I dined here on a Friday evening. Overall, we had a really great time and the food was delicious. We ordered the brioche, fries, Ontario corn panisse , duck, chicken, zucchini and they ended up serving us the side of mushrooms due to a miscommunication. I think they said they recommend 5-6 dishes. The tables are a tad bit small, difficult to hold all the plates that came to the table. The drinks were good, I tried the golden-doodle and Bombastic side eye. The golden-doodle definitely tasted better. Service was good, but they removed our side plates and didnt replace them until we asked. We were sharing everything, so we did need the side plates. December 23, 2023

We booked to go for our anniversary by calling in - when we got there they seated us at the bar. I asked if we could move to one of the many open tables instead and we re told that we d reserved the bar so we couldn t - but that had never been mentioned. I would have just gone elsewhere had I known as it made for a much more casual experience than I hoped. Overall sitting at the bar was terrible- I was sprayed with lemon juice while the bartender made a cocktail and again with the cleaning solution while he wiped down the spot next to us. He didn t do anything to apologize or make that right. He didn t explain the menu offer suggestions, and worse when I asked about something I d seen on the website menu that I was excited about he acted like I was crazy. I went back it s still posted - so you need to update your online menu. He didn t check in when we got our appetizers and the duck liver mousse actually tasted off and bad. Overall significant improvements to service need to be made. I also got an email asking to let them know about improvements- when I responded with this feedback I got an undeliverable message so posted here.

Ive been a huge fan of Chantecler for years and years. Im really glad that theyre still going strong. Food is good as ever, service friendly and accommodating as always. Additionally, they are great for large groups. I had thought of taking my family there for a Sunday dinner, and they contacted me the day after booking online, and they were very professional and prompt in correspondence, ensuring that we had the best possible experience by the time we got there. The food came out like clockwork, every single dish impeccable. Needless to say, my entire family, most of whom were first-timers at the restaurant, came away very impressed.

Chantecler!!!! Incroyable!!! Finally, I had an opportunity to dine at this very reputable establishment. I called a head on short notice and requested a special cocktail to be delivered when we were seated. Staff welcomed us, delivered a one of a kind cocktail compromised of their house made Gin, and it was spot on! I think they should name it The Serena, but nonetheless, the gin was excellent. The star of the show definitely was la nourriture, the food. Beef tartar was perfect! French onion soup as youd be eating it in a bistro in France! You never see this classic Vol-au-vent dish anywhere. We ordered it as it was a must and it didnt disappoint at all. Roast chicken a la Chantecler was delicious, and another must try. Vibe was busy. Every table had patrons enjoying food and drink, and time felt like it stood still as we enjoyed our evening with a glass of red wine. Going there cant come soon enough. To the owners and all the staff, thank you! @imadisanto

Ate here in the summer. Food forgettable. Service haughty. We were just a number in our 90-minute time slot. If you like pretentious, elitist service and getting rushed through your meal, this is your place.

Really impressed with our experience at Chantecler! Everything we ordered was delicious, standouts were the brioche and the cabbage with mussels, but I would happily order everything we had again. The fries weren t my personal favourite, I prefer them a little crispier and they were a bit more on the soft side, but we still finished them. Really nice cozy warm vibes, the specific table we sat at was roomy and they spaced out the dishes well. Service was great, switched out our plates between courses and wiped down the table. They gave us some complimentary lemon drops for my friend s birthday with a candle which was thoughtful and adorable!! A very memorable dining experience in Toronto and I will absolutely be coming back. Thank you!!

Friendly wait staff, yummy food but the kitchen was very slow with our dishes. The noise level was high due to the restaurant being at capacity and tight spaces between tables. We enjoyed the seafood platter, duck pate and duck confit.

Delightful, delicious successor to the former Queen Street Chantecler. The little squash were amazing, as were the corn panisse. And fantastic server, especially from the cowboy (it was Halloween and I think he was tricked into wearing a costume by the other nice staff )

Had fond memories of 1st location & glad to see it back. Great service & room, busy but all was well-paced. The cabbage w/mussels was amazing and the fish and duck were very good. Sides were a bit sideways; the sunchokes were over roasted, felt like we got the last of the pan covered by too large drop of crème fraiche and fries were dry. But overall so delicious & nice wine list. Will visit again to try more things!

Beef tartar, braised lamb were absolutely delicious. I would not recommend the duck as I found it to be a little too chewy. Price wise I thought the restaurant was good value. Overall a great experience.

Probably one of the best restaurants I ve eaten at in Toronto in the last five years. Try the steak tartare and the ribeye and the pasta with caviar and the desserts lol. 9/10 only shortcomings was that the restaurant was a little short staffed last night, but Colin , the waiter was amazing. And a few of the dishes could ve come out hotter the French onion soup. The ribeye and the pasta. But in terms of flavour and culinary skills by far as great a restaurant as I ve been to in a very long time. Congratulations.

Wow! This place is such an amazing addition to the neighborhood. The servers are all so helpful and friendly, guiding you through all the different menu options (which rotate frequently). The drinks are superb and the food is delicious every time. Its the place we take all our friends who visit from the States to show off what Toronto has to offer. And it never disappoints. Were hoping to checkout their happy hour next!

Wonderful French cooking with generous portions. French fries are a must-have. Duck breast & confit plate delicious (the sauce was a bit sweet for me, but also authentic). French onion soup great (also a bit sweek). My wife had the chicken which was fantastic. Steak tartar pretty good too. Very cute atmosphere with dim lighting. The service was good, but I feel they could have been a tad more friendly and attentive if they had one more person helping out. They were hustling though. Ill be back for more!

Fantastic and attentive service. A couple of the dishes were just off especially at the price point Misses -Tartare was under salted and the sourdough masked the flavors of the beef and herbs & the hot sauce was too over powering (I love heat and it felt out of place) - Ravioli was underwhelming especially at $25+ for 4 pieces (only 3 pieces of shrimp), and lukewarm - the puree under the duck was too sweet, especially when mixed with the glaze/sauce (double sweet) Wins - Cats PJs Drink - was amazing!!! Get this if you go, everyone at the table ended up with one or two - The Duck was outstandingly cooked with crispy skin, perfect medium rare, with delicious cab franc/cheery reduction to cut the richness - Brioche was delicious, could have had 5 of them - Fries felt elevated (crispy & double fried)

Lovely ambiance, we loved the Cats Pyjamas drink. The food was hit or miss but the steak tartare, roasted mushrooms, and cabbage and mussels are a must try! I believe the owner or manager was the one who seated us and checked on all the tables throughout the night, he is wonderful! Our server was just okay.
