About

Dreyfus is set in a little Harbord Village row house, tables closely lined along a central banquette evoking the riotous and close quartered dining rooms of Paris. We focus on pairing the classics of French cuisine with the exceptional products found in Ontarian farms and Canadian fisheries, filtered through a Jewish-Canadian cultural heritage and paired with the new classics in natural wine. Though our small menu changes daily, we can always accommodate allergies and restrictions with trust and open mindedness!

My partner was excited to book this for her birthday, but due to a glitch, she booked the wrong day and was charged $50 by the restaurant for her mistake. We tried to call and reason with them (we still planned on dining there for the birthday!) but they wouldn’t take no for an answer, and kept their fee. We kept our word and ended up dining at Dreyfus for her birthday, and the food was nice, but the experience left a really sour taste in our mouths. Make sure you triple check your reservations here, as they do not mess around.

Absolutely delightful :) I wasn’t expecting this dining experience in Toronto. Very French like. From the decor, to the very close table proximity and small cozy restaurant space. The menu is concise. Their food is creative and very delicious. Their service is excellent on all levels. My recommendation is that if you want a more leisurely dining experience book a later vs earlier seating time. And if u can use a car service cuz parking is near impossible.

We loved Dreyfus! Two seats at the bar is all you need. The staff at Dreyfus will take it from there. Incredible ambiance and excellent music. The food was next level. I particularly loved the steak tartare and gravlax. The wine pairings were excellent. All of the staff were so friendly and knowledgeable. We had great conversations and they made the experience so much better. I look forward to my next visit to Dreyfus!

Outstanding meal. One of the best we have had. The execution and the bold flavors were impeccable. So much care and consideration was put into every aspect of the meal. We sat at the bar and had Marion walk us through the creative process. Their passion stands out. Highly recommend. A must go in Toronto. We will be back.

We came to Dreyfus on a Friday night to celebrate my partner's birthday. We had made reservations 2-3 weeks prior to coming, so we got the earlier timeslot we were looking for. Upon entering, the server offered to take our jackets, which was nice because we were able to sit down and eat comfortably. The attention to detail was just phenomenal from the staff. We got the Pommes dauphines & rillettes, Grilled beef tongue, Linguine maison, spigarello & cozze, and the Pintade pressé & ratatouille. Every dish was delicious, the ingredients were fresh, and each dish came out within a good timeframe. The staff topped up our water every moment they got. Our plates were taken away after every dish, and the table was wiped down before the next dish was served. The service here really made us feel special and stood out as the highlight of our evening. We highly recommend coming here!

Incredible French bistro cuisine in a cozy intimate setting. Highlights were the Eggplant, Tomato and fried feta cheese, Duck/Chicken with Chanterelles and the prawn spaghetti. Drink menu is more wine forward (3 cocktail options) but everything was otherwise perfect!

I have been hearing far too many people exclaiming this is their favorite restaurant in toronto, so of course I had to give it a go. The interior sets the tone for dinner as very intimate but casual. I loved all the decor and the old toronto vibe. They have so many wine bottles everywhere! The menu is sharing plates with very original flavors, and I asked the server how often the menu changes, and she said daily! A favorite for me was the bbq pork neck and tuna belly, but desert really blew me away. The financier with fresh blueberrys and crème fresh was perfect, not too sweet and really hit the spot. We did not opt for wine but instead had their cocktails and I loved them! Very small menu sourcing everything locally. I see why this is so many people's favorite restaurant, I could literally come here everyday and I just might start. The price to quality ratio was also spot on, all around great!

Best French food in a long time!! Place is small so you must book ahead of time but it’s worth it. We ordered a variety of items and they were terrific. My fave was the scallop - perfectly cooked and the sauce … to die for! The potato puffs (sorry can’t spell the French name) was super creative and fun to eat. The dill and roe were the perfect compliment. Zucchini flower was delicate yet it had lots of flavour. The lobster pasta was the least of my fave even though it was still good - perhaps just not what I was expecting. All in all truly satisfying. I’ll be back!

This was as far from a French restaurant as their physical location is from actual France. The decor is more Paris, ON than Paris, FR.. food and especially the spaghetti is much too spicy and they don t serve any hot drinks ?!?! And what s so uncool about playing French music.. at a French restaurant. I doubt the chef has ever been to France, or studied under a French influence. If you want an authentic French restaurant I recommend Le Montmarte in North York. The only redeeming quality is their choice of table placement makes it feel like a big family dinner where people only talk to their neighbours at the table.

In a sea of carbon-copy fusion spots, Dreyfus offers a refreshingly distinct atmosphere. The food was amazing (tartare was a highlight, Id probably serve a 10-year sentence in exchange for the lamb ragu, and Id betray my closest friends for another bite of the cheesecake). The menu is entirely in French, which left my girlfriend and me in an initial panic, wondering how we could slip out our phones and Google translate each dish under the table, but in a ~chic~ sort of way. Thankfully, the staff is really lovely and walks you through the menu, dish by dish, as well as the cocktails. Both change regularly, between the food and drink menus, which is fun. The space itself is quite warm. The tables sit close enough together to feel intimate, while the surrounding chatter lets your conversation feel private (as Jordan Baker notes in Gatsby: I like large parties. Theyre so intimate. At small parties there isnt any privacy.). Thats how Dreyfus feels; lively yet tête-à-tête, as the waitstaff might say. The service itself was lovely: attentive but not overbearing. To those noting they felt rushed, maybe you were just a bit of a bore. Or you didnt get dressed to go out. Or maybe you were rushed. Hey, I dont know your story. Either way, for fantastic French cuisine, great service, and a distinct atmosphere, look no further.

Food was delicious but cocktails were weak and unfortunately we had to remind the server about the $85 bottle of wine we had ordered. The appetizers were all potato based, except for the one that was sold out and no alternative added, they also came out within minutes of ordering making the start of our meal feel very rushed. While it s not a terrible experience I don t think the prices are good value for what we received. The server did try to make up for their forgetfulness with a bit of digestif at the end but it s personally not my thing. Atmosphere was lower due to how close the seats are, we were beside the larger table so had people squeezing past us multiple times to get in and out which was a bit uncomfortable, also could barely see inside since we were right beside the door but that happens

This is the best restaurant in the city. Yes, the menu can require a bit of explaining (who cares?). Yes, the tables are a little tight (this is Toronto). The Food, Wine, Service, and Ambience are exceptional. Imo, ask your server to build your menu, tell them what you don t like and leave it to them. Likewise with the wine. Order 1 dessert per person. Do the same thing the next time you go, cause the menu is always changing.

This restaurant is beyond special. For cocktails we got the Peach Pink Spritz ($18) and Tiqueled Pink ($18) both were incredible but we both ended up ordering a second Tiqueled Pink because it ended up being one of our favourite cocktails in the city, insane. To start we got the Involtini daubergine & truite ($23) and the Canadian bluefin tuna belly, zest & zhoug ($32) such fair prices for some of the best dishes I ve ever had. For the mains we got the Smoked beef ham & fennel ($26) and the BBQ Pork Neck with pickled chanterelles ($46) TO DIE FOR!!!!!!! The desserts were equally as impressive, we got the financier and the chocolate mousse and I would highly recommend ordering both. This place is a 10/10 and one of my top 5 restaurants in the city, for sure!!

Was very excited to this restaurant only to be disappointed The food was good but not great. The service was attentive but made us felt rushed as they made it clear that they wanted high table turnover. The menu is not all that welcoming for pescatarian or vegetarians. The tables are less than 6inches apart from each other so it feels like you are intruding on others conversations and have no privacy of your convo. Overall, I would not come back

This restaurant feels like you are still at work trying to meet a deadline, but in this case, to finish dinner on time. If you are looking to get a quick meal and you are not worried about money, then it s ok. If you are looking to unwind, relax and enjoy a good conversation over a bottle of wine this place is not for you. There are strict time limits that are imposed by waiting staff who will interrupt conversations to let you know your time is up. It can be stressful and awkward

My friend made a reservation which required a credit card. On arrival, the menu which may change daily was not similar to what I saw online. The wine list is 100% natural wines, which are not my preference and I would have liked to have known that in advance. We ordered two apps, including beef tartare, which were acceptable but not more. The wait staff had were in our personal space when serving the next tables. I was looking past an elbow to see my friend. We left after apps and went to another restaurant down the street.

This was very eagerly anticipated having heard amazing things about Dreyfus! The positives: The food was VERY good. We had everything on the menu except a couple of dishes and everything we had was excellent. The veal, duck and the dauphine potatoes were particular stand outs. The food is 100% worth the hype. The negatives: the drinks menu was a frustration. The menu gives very little away about what the drink actually is (e.g. name of wine but no mention of the grape etc.). Same with the cocktails - just a name with no description of ingredients. This felt quite pretentious and unnecessarily confusing. Because of this, our food was on the table before we had ordered any drinks as we had to wait for the server to talk through different options. I also felt the server didn t really inform us accurately about the drinks we did end up ordering. Feels like a pretty easy fix..just provided a little more detail on the menu. One other minor gripe, the cost for the portions is very high. The lobster dish in particular was tiny and cost upwards of 30 dollars. However, this is fairly standard in higher end places in Toronto. Overall a good night with amazing food, ever so slightly let down by drinks and service but good nonetheless!

It s rare that I give a review that s below average but I feel people have to know about this one. It s sad to say that this restaurant did not live up to expectations and also was not inviting. Starting with the service, upon arrival we were seated and presented menus. But a few minutes later, another table came and they got served first (non racialized customers). The whole menu elaborated for them even though we ve been sitting looking confused because the menu had a mixture of French and English with no sub descriptions. Took at least 15minutes before another server attended to us. Food came fast but throughout, although dishes were cleared quickly, simple things like water failing to be topped up whilst we can observe that other tables had theirs refilled no problem without even asking. Overall, unfriendly staff with discriminating feeling in a semi chaotic environment (had to squeeze closer to another table due to lack of space - which is fine). Now to food, mostly French entirely cuisine but lacking the depth, complexity and technique a French eatery would have. At the price point of the restaurant, flavour, texture, technique and impression is much more critical in my point of view. Dishes lacked the wow factor, overpowering in saltiness and sour, and also questionable seasoning / selection used. We had the two ways prawn - one sashimi style and another deep fried. Coming from Asian background, the deep fried prawn is exactly the same as Mr Bean eating raw shrimps whole in one of the episodes. These type of prawn with shell on aren t pleasant to eat. At the minimum de shelled or using a soft shell type of prawn. The sashimi side had prawn that was not sweet and had I think lime cuts placed which overpowered the natural taste of the prawn and was repulsive to have them together. The tartare is not bad, standard but the pieces of beef are a little chonkier than what I am used to. The escargot and clam was interesting because I was not expecting that. Flavour wise, filled with mushrooms and had toppings almost like crispy flour with peppers and chili flakes. Was hoping more of an escargot mouthfeel instead but I guess that s my bad for not asking about it more in depth before ordering. The last dish, flank steak bbq-ed style but lacked the bbq flavour and smokiness to it. Texture is good but the seasoning was confusing as cumin was used so it tasted almost like lamb pairing which I don t enjoy out of my steaks. The fried fries on top was too salty and heavy. Nothing to balance it out or cut the greasiness and heaviness. Ultimately, for the price point and status, this place was a let down. When I feel hurt from a restaurant, it s really not a good sign. But hope they do better for other customers.

Had to pack the hen..it was a generous serving as you can see from the pic! Dessert we tried the profiterol. A Culinary Delight - Tasting Menu Steals the Show We were thoroughly impressed by our experience. From the ambiance to the service, everything was impeccable, but the true star of the show was their exceptional tasting menu. The chefs culinary skills shone through each carefully crafted dish, showcasing a harmonious blend of flavors and textures. Every course surprised and delighted our taste buds, leaving us eager to sample the next gastronomic creation. The presentation of each dish was both visually stunning and tastefully restrained, allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves. The food was great. I need to be clear on that. I ordered a fish entree and it was absolutely five star. But there was an issue. I was seated at the bar, near the entrance to the kitchen. I stopped counting after the fifth time they bumped into me. Even when I moved my stool in close to the bar, the bumpings continued. Morale did not improve. Eventually I had them pack up my fish to go. It was that bad. I have to say, that had I been seated pretty much anywhere else, I expect Dreyfus would have been a wonderful experience.

My friend and I dined at Dreyfus on a Saturday evening and we both had such a great experience. The ambiance is immaculate! Definitely reminded me of the restaurants I used to visit while I was working in Montreal. The tables are a little close together, making it difficult to enter and exit the table if you re sitting on the bench. I feel everyone should be vigilant and ensure they do not make contact with the candle or accidentally knock over glasses, which happened to me. A lady who was exiting knocked my filled glass all over my cellphone and my lap. The staff quickly cleaned up the area and apologized for the lady who didn t even acknowledge what she did. Regardless, our time there was amazing. The service was very good, the waitstaff are very knowledgeable about the menu and are attentive. The food was delicious, probably now one of my favourite restaurants in the city. Dreyfus came strongly recommended by my cousin, which I will need to thank him for since this dining experience was perfect. I m definitely going to return. Vegetarian options: You will definitely find vegetarian items on the menu, but the menu does change every couple of days or so. Parking: Depending on the time you park, parking is free after 9pm. Street parking on Spadina and harbord. Kid-friendliness: I would say no. Wheelchair accessibility: Washroom is not wheelchair accessible and the restaurant is very small, would be very difficult or near impossible to comfortably maneuver a wheelchair. There is also no ramp into the restaurant.

Cute and cozy with excellent food and service. Lovely atmosphere but its small so be sure to make a reservation. Our server walked us through the menu (which changes frequently) which all sounded amazing - but we settled on the pommes dauphines*, latkes and raw tuna*, shrimp-challah canapes*, insalata bianca (radicchio and endive salad), saute gourmand aux lentilles (skatewing), ditalini with lamb ragu and cornish hen with mushrooms and cabbage. Everything was delicious, but the cornish hen was the teeniest bit dry if I had to nitpick and the portion size felt a little small. The latke and raw tuna came in a plate of four so I appreciated that they flagged it and asked if we wanted a fifth piece so everyone could have one (pro rated on the bill). *my favourites And of course we had to get dessert - the chocolate ganache hazelnut tart with salted caramel, and sorbet with pistachio crunch, meringue and grapefruit. Both were incredible, not too sweet and the perfect end to a delicious meal. Service was attentive, thoughtful and personable. Our group of five was seated in the corner near the bar and kitchen which we thought would be a quieter area since it was further away from the other tables. However, earlier in our meal (when the restaurant wasnt as busy) some of the staff were having pretty loud conversations with a patron at the bar (seemed to be a friend of theirs). I cant really fault the staff for having fun and enjoying themselves though! Its pricier but pretty good value, I would come back for a special occasion. 4.5/5

I ve been here twice and am definitely thinking of coming back soon. Really well made dishes that are unique and decently good value for a fine dining restaurant in Toronto. I also love the Jewish influence in some of the dishes. While the restaurant looks unassuming on the outside, it s definitely worth a visit and I highly recommend it!

This is my second visit at Dreyfus. This is the restaurant nominated for one of the top restaurants in Canada. This restaurant is the only restaurant actually met that reputation for me. I would give 6 if I could. All the ingredients cooked perfectly and very fresh. Attention to details. Stuffs are very polite and welcoming at the same time. We came today very late at night and we were not so hungry that we ordered only appetizers. Tuna prosciutto rapped with green : $24. I could not taste much salmon. More prosciutto. Not bad but $24 seems just a little bit high compares with $28 duck leg bourguignon, which looked excellent and worth the price. Raw lamb pissenlits : $24. lamb tartar with green. Loved it. I also used to eating tartar with baguette. But they did not have baguette unfortunately. Beetroot with shiso : $17. Love Beetroot. I wanted more Shiso with beetroot though. Gateau au agrumes : $14. Very fresh with citrus. The sponge cake is soaked into some citrus liquid(?) with meringue on top. Oh! So divine!!! Not too sweet and just perfect in every way!!! ( There was ice cream sundae too for desert. My teenager kid was so grumpy that a kind lady stuff offered my kid a small Sundae! That was very kind of her!!! ) If we were more hungry, we would have ordered Duck leg bourguignon or Roasted Cod too They looked fantastic and good quantity. This restaurant never disappoints us. Consistently great quality of food and great service. Menu changes every week. I feel this restaurant will stay as my BEST restaurant in Toronto for a long time.

Truly a delightful experience: great atmospere (small place, pleasant lighting, intimate setting), excellent service and absolutely delicious dishes to choose from (small plates, changing menu). Two signature cocktails are perfectly balanced and highly enjoyable. Every bite is a culinary adventure, scallops and beef tartare are my absolute favorites. Their service was immaculate and intimate, with special attention given to us while explaining the menu. We opted for the pork entrée, and our only regret was not getting the steak option instead. The beef tartare was fresh, and their raviolis were one of the best dishes Ive ever had. I always have fears with nicer establishments that I will leave hungry, but with two appetizers and an entrée, my partner and I were thoroughly satisfied.

If youre looking for a great spot for cocktails and delicious pork chops, Dreyfus is definitely worth a visit. The drinks are expertly crafted, and the pork chops are tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor. However, if youre hoping for an intimate, romantic date night, you might want to think twice about coming here. The seating is tight, and theres very little privacy, which can make it hard to have a conversation without feeling like youre being eavesdropped on. That being said, if youre looking for a fun night out with friends or a more casual date, Dreyfus is a great option. Just be prepared to cozy up with your neighbors!

I am giving a 2 stars review for 2 main reasons: #1 - Not kids friendly at all and it is not specified anywhere. We have been to a lot of good / fancy restaurants with our well behaved kids but never we felt out of place and not welcomed like it happened here. First no high chair I am sorry.. What? We had our 15 months old on the lap. Let s say that it was a disaster. #2 - they ordered for us without telling us they did and without telling us what they ordered again, I am sorry? what??? Our 2 friends have dietary restrictions and we have some religious restrictions. They decided to order for us based on some of the restrictions we told them and that it would be food to share with the table. But they did not tell us in advance that they did and they did not tell us what they ordered. I am sorry but it s not because I am not allergic to something that I am going to like it. Half of the things our friends could eat but not us and we ended up paying +$200 for a small piece of chicken and salad. Honestly, I am not one to complain, but I am very upset by the service and by the attitude we were given. The only reason I gave 2 stars and not zero is because the food I could actually eat was good. But I will not go back.

I was underwhelmed by Dreyfus. I booked it because the other reviews are so glowing, but unfortunately I didnt feel the same way. The food was fine; kind of overthought without an upside to the taste, and way too expensive for what you get. The wine list was pretty well incomprehensible; and they had exactly 3 wines by the glass available (despite all the wines on the menu having a by the glass price on them) - one white, one orange, one red. Not ideal for a Wednesday night. The service was good, until we finished our mains and said we didnt want dessert; we were promptly brought the bill without asking for it, then they brought the machine for us to pay without our putting our credit cards down; after we paid and continued to talk a bit, they told us they had people waiting for the table. We werent told our reservation had an end time when booking or when we arrived, and had been there for less than two hours. It was pretty abrupt and felt quite rude. The restaurant itself has nice decor and is visually appealing though. Probably not appealing enough for me to come back, unfortunately...

* A note on grades, I rate outwards from three stars. * TL;DR : meets expectations. Expect a nice meal. Dreyfus is a safe choice for oneself, or to recommend to friends. The menu is creative and architected in a manner to deliver several complimentary multi-course experiences. The kitchen execution is timely and well -presented. The wine list is extensive and well-priced. The staff are particularly well-versed in this respect. The service is professional and efficient. An additional caveat: Im not fluent in Torontos baseline quality for restaurants. Dreyfus may be exceptional for the market, but Im rating against my Canadian experiences in (mostly) Vancouver and Montreal. Check my profile for comps.

Fantastic evening out from start to finish. We opened the door and were greeted with a big smile from Peter who was to become our friendly concierge for the evening. I use that term because Peter guided us through all the items on the menu and recommended wines after asking us about our preferences. Every morsel of food was flavourful and well presented without any hint of trying to be pretentious. Reminded us of being at our favourite restaurant in Paris! We will definitely be back. Dietary restrictions: There is a heavy emphasis on fish and seafood at this restaurant but dealing with a fish allergy wasn t an issue for the chef he just modified the dishes. Excellent!

Pommes dauphines - crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, served with trout roe and crème fraîche. 2. Shrimp and challah - very plump shrimp and a refreshing cucumber salad. 3. Soft shell crab - fried to pawfection with roasted carrots and chilli oil. 4. Halibut - lights, flaky, and moist, with crispy breading on top and a lemon butter sauce. 5. Rhubarb curd tart - like a giant lemon meringue tart, but with pieces of rhubarb inside. 6. Rhubarb dogtail 5 woofs out of 5. Bone-appétit!

Cute cozy small place on Harbord. Doesn t have a sign, hard to find. The restaurant is very small and crowded. They were packed at 8:30pm on a Tuesday night. Servers are friendly but not delicate. Our table wasn t ready until our reservation time so we had to wait to be seated. Once we got seated, we asked for wine recommendation and picked a bottle of wine. It took the server a long time to get us glasses and a ice bucket for the wine so the wine sort of became lukewarm. The menu was hard to read because it was in french but the server explained the whole menu. Food was nice. My favourite was the shrimp canapé. Very well balanced with perfect acidity, umami and texture. It sure did boost our appetite. The rest of the food was good but nothing particularly stood out other than the shrimp canapé. The servers kept asking to take the dishes away although clearly there were food on them. It made me feel like they were rushing us. When we needed a server, it was very difficult to get their attention. They sang the birthday song for my friend s birthday but they messed up bringing it out which was a huge disappointment. I wish that the servers are more trained for a high-end, delicate restaurant like this. A restaurant that costs over $100/person needs to provide better professional service, instead of just being friendly.

We got five dishes and most of them were okay, however the scallops were not good. There was no balance to the plate with the scallops overwhelmed by butter, a forest of micro greens, and way too many peas. No dish was exceptional and is miles away from the likes of canoe. As an aside, we also got a bit of attitude from the hostess but not sure why. For the price point and based on the current reviews, it s an understatement to say I was surprised. Heard such good things about Dreyfus but finally snagged a reservation today and we were so disappointed. Much prefer Giulietta, Grey Gardens, Edulis and Pompette, etc. Ordered the tomato, sweet bread, t dauphin. Everything had such heavy cream. Nothing to write home about for any of these dishes. Tomato dish was the best one - fresh tomatoes, cheese paired nicely with the acidity. Halibut was $52 and SO overcooked and dry. Had dinner here for my boyfriend s 30th but there was no offer of a dessert, drink or candle in anything. Waiter never stopped by to ask how the food was, otherwise I was prepared to comment. We had one round of the house cocktails and tried to flag down the waiter for a second round, but not only did that take awhile, but it took until we were finished with our dinner (5 dishes) to actually get served a second drink. There were 2 bartenders and yes it was full, but it was a full restaurant. Before I arrived tonight I told my boyfriend that I ve heard such great things and that they have a constantly changing menu so I hope to be back frequently and make this our spot, but honestly I m not sure I will give it another chance. $220 is a lot for a disappointing meal. Everything seemed rough with not much thought. Not sure if it was an off night or if they re riding on the coattails of their prestige in the city, but I was so looking forward to tonight and it turned out to be such a disappointing meal. Loved the ambience but not much else stood out.

It s exciting for Toronto to have a place that menu changes everyday. But it may also be equivalent to - some dishes may be a hit or miss. The only thing they don t change is the Dauphine, fried dough with mashed potato inside, pretty good. The frisée salad was delicious, from the dressing, crunchy fresh green, to the side canapé. But the tomato salad was overly salted, yes, not just my bite, with some chives n brown butter sauce, a bit simple for a restaurant dish. And the beef tartar from the flavor to the plain plating, not as impressive, esp when it s claimed to be a joe beef owned restaurant, which is known for their beef tartar. The clam dish is fancy, with fennel at the bottom in mussel broth vinegarettes topped with ham, but no real flavor point to remember a bit disappointed. Glad didn t order any main dishes, prob don t want those to be a hit or miss. Service is great though.

My experience at Dreyfus was nothing short of phenomenal. Before the pandemic, my friend and I used to go to the nicer restaurants of Toronto every few months as a treat to ourselves. This was the first occasion post-pandemic that we were able to get together for dinner. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, we were constantly in awe of the amazing food, service and ambiance. Our server was Kate and she was a rockstar and a half. My friend and I wanted to try as many different items on the menu as we could and we left it in Kates hands. She did not disappoint. She was knowledgable, professional and quite honestly one of the best servers Ive had anywhere - BAR NONE. As Dreyfus has a constantly rotating menu my food critique doesnt really help but everything was superb and Ive shared some photos so you can get the sense. Really great experience last night! Food was delicious and the service was amazing!

December 23, 2022

Our party of three, including a friend from Vancouver, went for an early dinner in early August. The food was not bad but the service was terrible! This restaurant simply didn t know what hospitality meant. We had a patio reservation but they made us feel as if we were crashing. We asked to be given a table not directly in the sun but were told we had no choice. Then they put the three of us at the end of a long bench to share a communal space with another couple. The patio is the most unattractive I ve ever seen with no plants, flowers or any natural vegetation to beautify the space. We had to wipe our table because of the dust gathered from passing cars. With a few exceptions maybe, most of the staff including the owners and our uncouth server looked totally unhappy with long faces and an attitude problem. It made us wonder why they should bother to remain in the business at all. No smiling faces even though they were all maskless and nobody ever said to us: Welcome to our restaurant. If they didn t even enjoy their jobs themselves, how could one expect them to accommodate and please their customers? If not for the $20 per person cancellation charge, we would have left right away. Although the food was not bad, we found the menu very limited in choice. Pompette in Little Italy is much better! Worst of all, when I submitted a candid review on their website, not only did they not publish it, but instead sent me an arrogant email hurling insults! My friends and I heard a lot of good things about this restaurant but were totally disappointed and appalled with our experience. They certainly do not deserve a spot on Canada s Best 100 - Canada and Toronto can do much better! Needless to say, we will not ever return again!

The most disappointing meal Ive had in years. We were excited to dine at Dreyfus as we were reccomend by some friends in Montreal. The service was great however the food was the opposite. What sounded like an exciting menu was 1 dish after another of clashing flavors and textures. For a French restaurant I was extremely confused at each dish that came to the table. Green beans with tahini, sesame seeds and Graham masala. Not sure it fit the theme of the menu. Kohlrabi with a beurre blanc and roe. This was the worst thing I had ever tasted. The beurre blanc was runny as if it was watered down and the textures of this dish were so unappetizing we couldnt bare to enjoy anything further. There was a tripe shitnizel which was so overly rich I was craving some acidity to cut all the fat. I was waiting for any server to ask how the meal was or if we enjoyed and not 1 employee did. We were presented with our bill paid and left. $300 for 2 people 6 dishes ordered. For the money and experience of a rotating menu I would skip the reservation here and try edulis.

Mains were full of flavour and definitely worth the wait. Great intimate experience at this small French bistro. The daily changing menu keeps things interesting, but could run the risk of some hit or miss dishes.

I know I am an outlier here and maybe my expectations were too high because of how much everyone I know raved about it. The food was good (pasta was really nice actually), the service was decent, the cocktails fine but to be honest the highlight was two of the folks behind the bar and how excited they were about the seasonal ingredients particularly the tomatoes which they sliced, explained and encouraged us to try. Nothing else sticks out which I think is telling about the experience. Value for money was reasonable considering the hype and general costs in Toronto - it seemed reasonable for what we ordered and drank. Ill give them another try to see if it was an off night but would suggest elsewhere for standout food and experience.

We had a reservation at the restaurant a few weeks ago. Though the overall experience was more than bad you have to say: credit for an ideal location and a cozy atmosphere inside. We had a reservation and got a table right at the corner of the kitchen. It was a bit hectic there. After please we were allowed to move to the bench more in front of, less busy. Finally we were handed the menu. What can I say? Even hieroglyphics in the Egyptian pyramids are easier to decipher. Ingredients you never heard about (and NO wi-fi). When asked, the menu was only briefly explained to us. Instead, the waitress wanted to put something together for us. Of course, that was not in our interest. So we ordered. We were quite excited, because the photos on Insta are very promising. But see for yourself how they prepare it. The dishes were more than questionable. It was also a pity that you had to order everything at once and not one after the other. So we couldnt estimate how big the portions would be and decided on three dishes. More difficult, however, was the choice of the right drink. Because the restaurant is actually very intolerant when it comes to non-alcoholic drinks. Only three drinks were offered. When I pointed out going for just water, I was asked why you would only drink water. All in all, a cheeky thing to do. We will definitely not come back and will not recommend the restaurant.
