Jules Bistro is a small French restaurant in the heart of Queen West right around the corner fromTrinity-Bell Woods. Our mission is simple; we provide high quality, home-style southern French cuisine at reasonable prices, great wine sourced from all over France and swift and reliable service whether you're in for the evening or just a quick espresso. Whether you've traveled from afar or are coming from just around the corner, we look forward to welcoming you into our home. À bientôt!
I had the scallops and steak frites. Absolutely wonderful. It was flavoured incredibly well. Great medium rare and nice fries. The extra butter on the side was an excellent touch. I’d highly recommend.
Jules Bistro has quickly become one of my go-to spots, especially for their unbeatable cote de boeuf deal on Tuesdays. They offer a 50% discount, bringing this premium cut from $120 down to a great value. The portion is perfect for two, and the meat is consistently cooked to perfection—tender, flavorful, and juicy. The fries are also fantastic, and I’d recommend upgrading to the Caesar salad, which makes an excellent pairing. We tried adding the peppercorn sauce, but I honestly think the steak stands on its own without it. The flavor of the meat itself is so rich that additional sauce isn’t necessary. We also sampled the escargot as an appetizer; it was tasty, but not anything out of this world. If you’re planning a visit on a Tuesday, just be aware that reservations fill up quickly. I’d recommend booking a few weeks in advance, especially for special occasions. The atmosphere at Jules Bistro leans towards intimate, as the tables are set very close together. This might not suit those looking for a super private setting, but it adds a lively, European charm that makes the experience feel cozy and vibrant. All in all, Jules Bistro is a must-visit for a delicious meal, especially if you’re there on a Tuesday for that excellent cote de boeuf deal.
We came here for the Tuesday special, I thought the portion would be bigger, but it wasn’t. The steak was way too salty to be enjoyable! We had to chuck it down with water. Their onion soup was really good. I ordered a cocktail but I ended up getting served a cup of wine (it tasted good but I felt weird to ask for them to exchange it) so we just kept it. The table that we were at had water leaking from their ventilation and we asked to switch table, they were nice about it. But I WAS SHOCKED that they still sat people there afterwards and that same table also asked their seats to be changed. That’s pretty low for a restaurant to do so. Who would want water dripping onto their food 🤢
It offers delicious, well-prepared dishes that truly satisfy the palate, though the prices are on the higher side. The ambiance is charming, providing a cozy setting for a nice meal. The staff is quick, attentive, and friendly, ensuring a pleasant dining experience. Overall, it's a lovely spot if you're willing to spend a bit more for quality food and service.
Great experience! The server was very friendly ❤️ I love the onion soup! Portion for the steak was also pretty big, we order one steak&fries, two appetizers and that was enough for two! The seasoning on the steak is very unique. Will come back again and definitely recommend for date night & friends hangout
The food portions were quite small. We ordered a medium steak, but it arrived nearly well-done. I understand that Tuesdays can be busy, but this experience was really disappointing. And then there's the octopus we ordered—it tastes good, but honestly, do these two small octopus legs seem worth $27?
Good French food with reasonable price! The tartar I got was too seasoned and salty but with the budgets, it balanced a little bit. Other than the tartar, everything was tasty. Escargot and steak was my favorite dishes, and the steak wasn’t too fatty but juicy. I liked it when all the dishes came with green salad which created different combination of flavors.
Lovely little french restaurant. The Tuesday steak deal is something rare in the city. The steak is cooked perfectly and portion size is well enough for 2 people. Their dessert options are also nice. The creme brulee Is fantastic. Staff was helpful and service was quick. Reservations are hard to get on deal nights. absolute gem in the downtown area! Update : my second visit the steak wasn't cooked as well as the first but still descent. Also their patio is really lovely. Also another tip is that they over cook their steak so if whatever your preference is order below that. I wanted a medium but got a medium well both times so I'll order a medium rare next time.
Came here on a Tuesday based on good reviews and was completely disappointed by the food. We ordered the Cote de Boeuf and it was salty beyond belief. Inedible amounts of salt coated the outside of the steak. Simply unacceptable. After bringing this up to the staff we were not offered any sort of compensation. We reserved over a month ahead of time and have been looking forward to this meal. Unfortunately, the food quality we experienced today was abysmal and we will not be returning in the future.
Always a great time at Jules try to go once every couple months The owner is a great guy and the service is excellent Food : 5/5
The food was excellent but what really made the dinner was teh service. Ellie turned a divorce celebration into a true experience. Cannot recommend enough.
A charming spot with authentic French cuisine! The dishes were beautifully presented and full of flavor. Warm, attentive service and a cozy atmosphere made for a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend
1. Once you enter the restaurant, they inform you that there is a 2-hour time limit. 2. Small portion sizes for the price. 3. The taste is just average. 4. The waitress blatantly stares at how much you are tipping.
50% of Tuesday is amazing!
What a beautiful moment I spend there with my friend! The servers are fast and kind with customers. Snails were delicious and Emilie s cocktail was so tasty I ll come back for sure:)
My favourite French resto in Toronto! A must try; will bring you back to feeling you re in Europe!
Tuesday Ritual
Great spot, food was amazing. Elie was our server and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable and thorough with the service.
Nice experience in the restaurant. Good view and steak is delicious. Elie is super nice to serve our meal. Enjoy the great time and definitely come again!
Have Returned. Highly Recommended. Cosy, busy and tight - came here just for a snack on 3rd dinner. Creme Brulee - was told that if I dont see black dots (vanilla bean) it wouldnt be good. Id say its fair judgement. Sugar had a nice crack but filling was average. Most people seem to order their steak Frites board. Takes AMEX.
Excellent place, very unbelievable price for Tuesday
This is that place you are looking during your stay in Toronto to eat delicious, have a great time and enjoy!! We ordered the onion soup (DELICIOUS), the escargot s (AMAZING) and the steak and frites with the house salad (EXTRA DELICIOUS). For dessert we had the creme brulee and the chocolate mousse, both out of this world, delicious!! So so happy. Will definitely come back!
The perfect Tuesday date night spot I heard about the half-price cote de boeuf from social media and finally got to try it tonight! We ordered the salmon tartare, cote de boeuf (medium) with the caesar salad, crème brûlée, and red wine! Everything we ate was spectacular, and this is coming from two serious foodies! The ambience in the back patio is great and our server was fantastic! We will definitely be coming again
The steak tartare is high quality and the sauce is delicious. The cote de boeuf is also pretty good but the steak knives are not the best.
Jules Bistro is a gem! I love going on Tuesdays for their half-price Cote de Boeuf steak frites special it s always perfectly cooked and delicious. When mussels are available, they re also fantastic and packed with flavor. The ambiance inside feels like an authentic Italian bistro, with cozy decor and warm lighting that makes it an inviting spot to dine. The experience feels like a true escape to Italy, right here in the city. Highly recommend stopping by on a Tuesday for an amazing meal at a great price!
One of the best steaks I ve had. I got the cote de boeuf on Tuesday and it was 50% off. What an amazing deal, I loved their steak it was juicy and their fries were like Mc Donald s ones. Nothing wrong with the food but I do not like how the seats were sooooo tight together. I feel like if they sacrificed one table and just spaced out everything it would be perfect.
Jules Bistro offers a unique dining experience thats equal parts culinary delight and theatrical performance. The steak frites is a solid 8/10, a classic French dish executed with skill. However, the real showstopper is the enigmatic owner, Eric. With his charming demeanor and engaging personality, he can captivate a room. Unfortunately, the management teams treatment of staff can sometimes overshadow the positive aspects of the restaurant. While its unclear if this is a regular occurrence, the night we dined, the tension between management and staff was palpable. If youre looking for a quiet, intimate dinner, this might not be the ideal spot. But if you enjoy a bit of drama and a good meal, Jules Bistro is worth a visit. Just be prepared for an unexpected performance.
I like the vibe of this place. Food is good, prices reasonable, however, one of the steaks, ordered medium rare, arrived well done. What s a problem is the virtually non-existent service, no checking in if the food is okay, no offer of another drink, no offer or coffee or dessert, hard to get attention of staff to ask for bill. Bit underwhelming.
I visited this restaurant tonight with a booking for a table of four. Last minute, a friend decided to join us, and we requested an extra chair. Our server s behavior was shockingly unprofessional. He kept us standing for 10 minutes, visibly irritated, which made everyone at the table uncomfortable, one of my guests even considered leaving. Once we were seated, the server repeatedly rushed us, questioning why we hadn t ordered food, even though we had already ordered drinks and were waiting for our friend to arrive. Despite assuring him we were fine with the two-hour table limit, he continued to pressure us. When our food arrived, appetizers were brought out at the same time as the mains, and no one checked on our table throughout the meal. We were missing cutlery, and one guest s wine arrived significantly late. The most unacceptable part of the experience occurred when we tipped 10%, reflecting the poor service we received. The server rudely confronted us, demanding to know why we didn t tip more and even stating that we were no longer welcome to return if we didn t tip 18%. This behavior was disrespectful, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable. To the management: I hope you take this feedback seriously, as this kind of treatment will drive customers away. If the owner sees this, I strongly urge you to review the behavior of this staff member (Transaction #406342). A welcoming and respectful attitude is key to a positive dining experience, this experience was anything but.
Food was okay. Service was my worst nightmare in Toronto. I am working in the same industry and that attitude was NO. I dont know how hard or busy your night was, but that doesnt mean you can ruin my night. Do not teach me or the other guests that main course is coming after the appetizer or ANYTHING. If you never come to check my table, never look at the empty dishes, never ask us how was the food, and never see how fast we were finishing that small dishes, you can only say sorry for late.
Amazing food with amazing service! Ellie is absolutely amazing with the drinks - she nailed every single one!!
We had a wonderful dinner at Jules! The steak frites, escargot, and cocktails were lovely. We sat at the bar and Ellie was so attentive and kind. She s an amazing bartender and made the best cocktails!
An absolutely fantastic meal!
Lovely restaurant. Delicious French cuisine and very friendly owner/staff. Very accommodating for food allergies too (e.g. options for gluten free, dairy free and nut free). Bonus is the ambiance and layout - open kitchen in front and dinning in rear is an underrated set up. Leslieville is lucky to have this place. Dietary restrictions: Options for gluten free (true GF), dairy free and tree nut free Kid-friendliness: Ate early and brought in our 3-month old with stroller. No issues.
Had a fantastic experience at this little jewel of a place. Unbelievably delicious Octopus is what kept it going, great steak and frites and of course plenty of old fashions too keep it pipes lubricated. Overall a fantastic jewel of a place with great food that is highly recommended. Enjoy
I am writing to express my deep disappointment with the experience my party had at Jules Bistro on what was supposed to be an enjoyable evening. Unfortunately, the level of service and the quality of the meal were far from acceptable, and I feel compelled to bring these issues to everyones attention. From the outset, it was clear that our server was more focused on socializing with the group seated next to us than attending to his duties. He did not check on our table once throughout the course of our meal, and when questioned, his excuse was that it was a busy night. This is unacceptable, particularly given that other tables seemed to receive more attentive service. It reflects poorly on the establishment s customer service standards. The food itself only compounded the poor experience. I ordered a steak, medium rare, but what I received was appalling. Half the steak was covered in silver skin and excessive, unappetizing pieces of fat. Worse yet, the steak was grossly undercooked in some areas practically raw while other parts were overcooked and tough. This inconsistency is inexcusable, and the dish was, quite frankly, inedible. Given that this is not our first time dining at Jules Bistro, we expected far better. However, the level of service and quality of food we experienced last night can only be described as a serious decline. To be candid, if it weren t for the 50% off promotion, we would have felt entirely robbed. Even with the discount, it feels as though substandard, nearly inedible food was intentionally served to us under the guise of a deal. I can assure you, had we been charged full price, this situation would have escalated further. I will be reporting this experience to the Better Business Bureau in the morning. As a returning customer, I expected better, and it is clear that the restaurant is not operating at a level that respects its patrons. I hope this feedback is taken seriously, as this experience has left us profoundly disappointed.
Absolutely love this place. Try their French onion soup and tartare.
The service and atmosphere are fantastic, but as a vegetarian it was slim pickings. The menu online wasn t updated and when I came and realized there was no mushroom tartare, my only options were a salad and soup. The chef offered to make a mushroom pasta since it wasn t a busy night, then realized there actually was no pasta. They felt bad so they made a vegetarian couscous which tasted great. Probably won t be back anytime soon as there is no guarantee for a decent main course. Vegetarian options: Basically only salad or soup, nothing for a main
First time here for a date night and was pleased with the overall experience. We had the Escargot to start ($17), which was recommended by our server and was one of the better Escargot dishes we ve ever had. Our main, we had the Cote de Boeuf 24oz AAA grade ribeye with salad and fries for 2 ($89). It was a great size portion. Ribeye was slightly over seasoned but not bothersome. Also, the fries and salad that came with our order was a nice balance to our meal. The service from the two servers at the bar were great (forgot their names but thank you!). We will be back on a Tuesday
Escargo is very flavorful Steak & fries is massive Food
We enjoyed our time at Jules bistro, we went on Tuesday and enjoyed the cote de boeuf and a few drinks. The service was attentive and friendly, also the vibes were great!
Food and drinks were incredible. Service was alright but the server pointedly did not mention that groups of 6 or more have an automatic gratuity of 20%. As an avid dinner goer I will always tip generously. But I can t help but feel slighted by the server happily taking twice the compensation. I only realized after the fact that I had tipped 20% twice Summary, food worth going for, but don t appreciate not being told that gratuity is included (which as a server I completely understand, but I also believe the group should be made aware before paying bills).
Outstanding service and the food was excellent. We cannot wait to return! The portion size was perfect for sharing and the dessert was so delicious Well done everyone - great team effort by you all!
Nice restaurant and nice service
Great service, great food, great atmosphere. I will definitely come back. I had to finish all the plates because everything was sooo delicious!! Food : 5/5
Absolutely love this place. Service is always fantastic and quality/food/price 10/10. Highly recommend.
Vibes are great and service is unmatched - plus the Tuesday cote de boeuf special cant be beat!
Came here last night to celebrate a friend s belated birthday and it was an amazing restaurant. Customer service on point, the servers are so attentive and open to questions. Good recommendations and smiles (10/10). We ordered Grilled Octopus and Cote de Boeuf, and we were three, it was a perfect share. So filling and delicious (9/10). The Grilled Octopus, it was so delicious, cuts smoothly with the knife. A bit burnt ends but still flavourful (9/10). Ordered the Cote de Boeuf, such a large delicious tray of nicely sliced 24 oz steak med rare and nicely seasoned. (9/10) Paired with a nice glass of wine (sadly forgot the name) (10/10). Overall I will still give it a 10/10 as the interior is so cozy and classy, thank you for the amazing service and delicious food.
Greetings to Eric! ...keep it up!!! I wrote some time ago... today I repeat it
We used to go to the Spadina address when we dated and came to Queen west for our 4 year wedding anniversary - has only become more sophisticated Staff is attentive but not annoying, food was beautiful and perfectly sized to allow for shares. Escargot and onion soup top notch along with my beloved lamb chops with infinite frites. Completely felt like we were on holiday while there- loved the atmosphere and crowd. Chatting with Eric is always a pleasure, and his pride in his staff and what theyve created is lovely. Merci beaucoup !
Very good food, great friendly atmosphere! Authentic French cuisine. Food
We enjoyed our cote de boeuf! Sooooo good!
The most unreal food!! We were absolutely obsessed with the french onion soup. The servers are lovely, and we had the most romantic time. The tables are very tiny and couldnt fit all our food and the chairs are a bit uncomfortable.
This restaurant is famous for its half-price steaks on Tuesdays. I must say the quality of the dishes matches the price. The meat is quite good, and the value for money is high.
This is our go-to place for steak. The Co te de B uf is wonderful and is more than enough for 2 people. We visited the Leslieville location for the first time and the service was great and they were very accommodating. Definitely recommend checking out Jules Bistro.
Food was so good! Def good to go on a tuesday to get that 50% off discount but without it i don t think it s worth $98.
The team and manager are great and welcoming, *Tip of the day: Order: 1.Escargot 2.Côte de boeuf And thank me later
Visited toronto for three days and went here for the poulet frites twice! Ellie took care of us and gave us amazing recommendations for bars to check out. The food is amazing and the service is even better
Great French bistro, tasty food and drink. Had the chèvre chaud, steak and poulette frits and cream brûlée for dessert.
Wonderful little bistro with fantastic food and service. Everything we ordered from the escargot, to the tartar, to the steak frites, were exceptional. An absolute gem!
Steak frites Cote De Boeuf is a delightful experience. The steak is perfectly cooked to med rare, tender and juicy, paired with crispy, golden fries. The ambiance is charming, and the service is attentive. A must-visit for anyone craving a classic French meal!
Absolutely love the food and atmosphere at Jules Bistro. My goto place when in Toronto!
Here for the well-known Tuesday special. Quick and friendly service despite the packed tables. Nice cut of beef cooked as requested and thin cut fries. A good deal for good food, but probably come on a different day if you want to try the rest of the menu.
Highly recommend this place. Co te de B uf was perfection!! We had a reservation for 2 at the bar, arrived early. Greeted by the French owner who was so charming and checked on us throughout the night. Service and atmosphere was superb, no complaints would come back 100%.
Amazing experience every time. Food is quality food. Staff are attentive and caring, Ellie was a delight to have as a server. Will definitely be back again :)
Jules Bistro is such a treat. An intimate setting with exquisite food (get the cote de boeuf!!), along with a great selection of wines. Such a great experience! Came here with 4 of my girls and we had the best service thanks to our server, Ellie. 10/10 recommend this place for a girls night out!!
I went to Jules the night of Aug 14th with my friends expecting a nice meal. At the end, I notified the manager of my dissatisfaction of the quality of their food, which I detail below. The good: the steak was cooked to the right level. The bad: The Côte de Boeuf, their signature dish, was underseasoned and generally unremarkable. The placement of mayonnaise and ketchup in the same container was annoying, as it forces one to eat fries with both condiments. The ugly: It is unacceptable to pay $120+ per person and leave hungry and unsatisfied. The portion sizes were quite small for appetizers and we were not notified of this. There was nothing special about the specials: the brioche was not fresh, but most likely reheated several hours after being made; the burrata salad, bland and unbalanced. Throughout the meal, we were swarmed by flies, which speaks to the poor levels of hygiene in this restaurant. The most offensive component was the sloppily arranged wine list (a subset of which is pictured). My specific complaints about it: - Unprofessionally made: it is riddled with spelling mistakes, has inconsistent spellings, and several wines are listed without a vintage. - Deceptive advertising: the Château Haut la Grenière is listed as a Saint-Émilion, when in fact its from the satellite appellation of Lussac Saint-Émilion. The satellite appellations of Saint-Émilion are generally of lower quality; at best, this is a careless mistake, at worst this is deceptive advertising to gouge the price of this wine. - Unspecific wines: there are two wines listed as Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Pommard, two famous south Rhône and Burgundy appellations, respectively. However, no specific wines from these appellations are listed. Curiously, these are two of the more expensive wines on the list. The food analogy to this is going to a steakhouse, seeing meat listed on the menu and being charged $200 for it. The purpose of a wine list is to provide enough data for me to make a good choice, but with insufficient information we ended up with a mediocre bottle. When I stated my concerns about the wine list to the manager, he placed the blame on a colleague of his who wasnt present, as he himself didnt know too much about wine; instead of making a note of feedback he said hed love for me to talk to said colleague to implement my recommendations. A better solution to asking a paying customer to design their wine list would be not to serve a food item they have no knowledge or understanding of. Jules catchphrase is Ceci nest pas un MacDo, which is clever, funny, and accurate, since Id much rather go to a McDonalds. Or maybe they actually do understand the reference and I just got played.
Good food at an affordable price for eating out. I can see where they cut cost, got two apps and 2 mains and the exact same salad came with everything. Rack of lamb and fries is the best thing to get price wise. The octopus was cooked great but didn t have the greatest accompaniment or flavour. The server came up to our table after to ask how the everything was. We said everything was fine, didn t complain or anything. She made a note that my friend didn t tip, we told her and she did indeed tip, went to talk to the server and the server said it was a little tip which was extremely off putting and weird to say. My friend offered to give her more, it was an 18% tip. Her service wasn t over the top or anything special, she was nice but in serving that s part of the gig.
We had a lovely time at Jules Bistro - excellent food and despite the busyness of the restaurant we felt our server Quentin paid attention to our every need. Can t wait to return as soon as possible.
Had dinner here the other day in their outdoor patio. It s a pretty intimate setting with about six or so groups. The patio is fully covered. I also found service to be fairly consistent throughout the meal despite being out in the back, which was great. Had their côte de boeuf, which was a good amount of food for two people. The steak was seasoned well and was cooked as we wanted it. It comes with a lot of sides - two types of salad and lots of fries, with some mayo and ketchup. I had a good experience here, but I don t know that anything really made the restaurant stand out to me.
Classic French cuisine done incredibly well. Has consistently delivered quality meals with great value for years. West Queen West gem, filled with charm.
Spent a hour to get there, and found out hey cancelled our reservation, we didn t receive any calls but they said they did.
The steak was supposed to be medium, but at least medium well and close to well done. Dry and rubbery. Staffs are friendly, however they are way too busy to check on you or provide any services except the very minimum such as bringing the dishes and bill.
Lovely place and great steak.
This is one of the best meals I have had in Toronto. While there are a lot of great places I like to frequent, Jules Bistro has it all. Great simple high quality french bistro. Amazing warm and friendly service, where you dont feel rushed to leave, comfortable/cozy ambiance. So glad we came and we will be back and see you soon! If you are looking for great quality food and great value, come here, you will enjoy every bite.
Always a great place. Good is great, service is perfect, everyone is very attentive and atmosphere is perfect.
Such an awesome little spot! Great atmosphere, the owner is so fun and the food is delicious. Highly recommend.
This is one of my new favourite restaurants in Toronto. As someone who dines out a lot, I can tell you this place really pays attention to the small details. From the kitchenware to the atmosphere to the presentation, everything here is on point. The food is delicious and they use really high quality ingredients. The service is exceptional with all the servers being very attentive and friendly. Extremely affordable pricing. The owner, Dave, seems to be very involved in this restaurant which may explain why things are run so perfectly. He was welcoming and ensured we enjoyed our experience. This is how dining out should be great food and an enjoyable experience. Highly recommend this place and can t wait to come back.
Beautiful
The food greatly disappointed me here as I ordered the steak frites medium rare but it came almost well done. The seasoning wasn t great and the steak itself tasted very cheap. The service was really nice here though and there are lots of seats inside along with a nice patio at the back.
I ve been a patron of Jules for years! Always a great time! Outstanding food and drinks!
I ve been to this restaurant quite a few times, either on dates with my partner or with friends. Always have a good time, and always enjoy it, whether i m sitting at a table, on the patio (back or front), or at the bar. Wherever you are, you ll get a good atmosphere. The staff is very nice, and friendly and so is the owner! In terms of food, most of their dishes are pretty good (haven t tried everything on their menu yet, but most of it, and the only thing i wouldn t recommend is their salmon tartare). I really enjoy their onion soup, the steak tartare (definitly try it, their escargots in a cognac cream (absolutely delicious), their steak frite (quite good!), and the lamb is on point. Their chalkboard dishes are usually pretty good too. If you like rosé, strongly recommend you try one of their selected imported wines - Les Oliviers.
Best food in Canada
I love this location! Went for cote de boeuf special Tuesday. Fantastic people and good food I didnt feel pressured to order more than the special, and we ordered the special and some drinks. At other places sometimes I feel pressured constantly to order something else even though I dont think wed be able to finish it. Overall, awesome!
A delightful French restaurant with a beautiful ambience and fantastic food. The service was exceptional
Went on Tuesday. Steak was overly salted. Medium rare was cooked. I waited forever the food then I waited forever for the bill. I regret tipping for both bad food, so-so to bad wine, and bad service. I wasted my time going here on my short trip. Heard they are usually okay but it was bad. I only come to Toronto every few treads so this was disappointing.
Not sure whats happened but the service has fallen off. Been here a few times but tonight was not a great night. The restaurant was about half full, it took 20 minutes to have a server come by our table after being seated to get a drink. Then when leaving, I told my partner to head home and I will meet her there as we hadnt seen anyone in quite a while since our last plates were removed. I waited another 10 minutes by myself and figured no one was coming so I went inside and found someone so I could pay and leave.
We recently had a very special occasion with our daughter and her husband in the back room. The care and attention of the team was fantastic. A special shout out to Lea and Icyes for their help. The food, as expected, was outstanding with the perfectly prepared lamb chops being the food star of the evening. The wine suggestions were perfect. Thank you for making a special event memorable.
Amazing cote du b uf, but had the most unprofessional experience here. I called in for a spontaneous dinner availability check around 8:45-9pm. The individual I spoke with seemed glad to accommodate us and advised me as long as we arrive before 10 pm last call, we can be seated and order food - i left my name and made my way. To my surprise, when I arrived they seemed hesitant and then told me they cannot serve me and had no idea who I was..I get it was late, but simply being transparent with me would ve saved me the time and disappointment, I would ve understood - that s why I called to be sure. It s unprofessional to advise your patrons one thing over the phone and then change the narrative/energy when they arrive. I hope the owner can hear my feedback to prevent this from happening future guests.
Absolutely loved our experience at Jules Bistro! We tried the duck and the rack of lamb, both were cooked to perfection. The drink choices are extensive and the wine selection is top-notch. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is outstanding. Special shoutout to Dave, the amazing owner, for making our evening unforgettable. Truly an 11/10 experience. Highly recommend!
Nice spot and well priced. Good service and solid wine recommendations. Back patio is nice!
A TO go to. Playful, bistro, environment all because of the delectable French fare prepared in their open kitchen and warm, accommodating staff. A chefs table and my favorite Syrah. What more could a girl want ?
My first visit here, although my better half has been a semi-regular for some time. Food was delicious, had the French onion (best Ive had anywhere) and steak frites. Perfectly cooked and a nice seasoning. The restaurant itself is laid out more like a bar, and sitting up front is where you get and hear a the action. Good atmosphere good service. Will definitely go back when possible and highly recommend. **Update - Id have to take a notch off the restaurant, theyve changed their Onion soup to a vegetarian broth, and its very bland now. Nowhere nearly as good as it used to be.
a perfect neighborhood spot. Got a tour from the owner and couldnt stop yapping with the staff. They are lovely Came for drinks and dessert but will return for their vegan tartare - tonight I ll be dreaming of the June 1974 and tart! Food
Had an amazing dinner here, staff is super friendly and attentive. Got the Cotê de Boeuf and it was amazing! Definitely will be back and will recommend.
We decided to try this much raved about place and it certainly held up the the hype. The walk the talk. Our person was Goergiana, who was not only terrific but extremely helpful with the menu options. Jules has a 1/2 price Tuesday special with regards to main dishes and we opted for the steak platter, done medium. It was perfectly seasoned and the fries were classic Parisian frites. The cut had just the right amount of fat without being grisolly. Our appy was the scallops which were slightly undercooked but with just enough sear on the outsides. This is not a negative, but an observation. We quaffed our thirst with Aperol® Spritz, the perfect summer cocktail. They could have added a titch more soda, Prosecco or Aperol as my partner thought it seemed a bit shy on the levelling up, but again, the taste was right. We ended the meal with an espresso and Tarte aux Myrtles. This is a blueberry pie with a marzipan base. The crust was classic French buttery and flakey. It was a hit. Good portion and massive taste without being overly sweet. The restaurant per se was not jammed when we arrived as there were a number of empty tables. Im assuming they were booked like we did. Note to patrons, they book with a credit card and if you fail to attend, you will be dinged $25. I think this is perfectly fair as this is not a MacDo as their caption reads - Ceci n est pas un macdo. Totally legit and terrific ambiance/vibe. The staff are very friendly and attentive without barging on you when you have a mouthful of food. We will definitely be coming back Peace out - JP
Owner is creepy, service is so/so. Judgy place used to be better. Food also wasn t as great
Came for the stakes. Stayed for the conversation. Waitstaff was amazing caring and kind.
Dinner was an absolute delight! Totally worth the hype! This place was recommended by a friend and lived up to the expectations. Our server Quinton was fabulous. Spot on recommendations, perfect timing when checking in on us and also ensuring we had enough time to enjoy our appetizers, full meal and dessert. Even with the amount of timing set for each meal, we didnt feel pressured. We even needed a few extra mins at the end to finish the dessert and pay the bill and Quinton had already spoken to the next patrons and professionally managed the situation. Well done. Now about the food. The star of the show was the cote de boeuf. Wow! Talk about perfectly cooked and seasoned, well marbled and super tender. I will definitely plan to come back. We ordered two of these to share between 3 people. And was completely satisfied and stuffed by the end. We also ordered the French onion soup, which was very nice as it was a cold and windy day. The scallops were recommended and were absolutely delish, well cooked and very flavorful with the perfect amount of citrus. We added on the creamy peppercorn sauce, so worth it and then we upgraded 1 of the salads to a Caesar salad. It was fine, but my focus was definitely on the meat over the greens. The crepe at the end was the perfect shared dessert to finish the meal. It was light and the chocolate was enough to fill my sweet tooth. Even the chocolate covered strawberry tasted fresh as well. We all really enjoyed this meal and the overall experience too. The venue is beautifully designed and I really like how open the kitchen was without it feeling like we were to close to the action. Thank you again for such a wonderful meal! We look forward to trying your other amazing dishes!
We were a group of 6 people and we experienced the worst service. The server was extremely rude. She kept asking us every minute about our order when we just sat down and then she also kept reminding us that we had 2 hours to eat our food I had the steak tartare that was really disappointing. It had too many capers and too much mayo.
Elly was an absolute GEM my girl and I sat at the bar for a cute lil wine night and she absolutely blew our minds away. Shes so bubbly and hospitable and her customer service is on POINT. Def recommend. Oh, the steak frites and mussels frites were also to die for hehe. Steak came out kinda cold but still delicious, was guna complain but Ellys persona and smile made me forget about the whole ordeal ! Def recommend! Yum yum yummy
One of the worse service experiences I ve had in the city. We were sat quickly and snarky informed you have two hours nothing else said, while every other table sat was giving a run through of the menu and the daily specials. Ordered two drinks and a shareable main that came at the same time??? Never have I felt more rushed out of a restaurant. Mind you, there were plenty of empty tables. When asked if we like to look at the desert menu (also still working on our FIRST drink) we politely declined and we were brought our bill immediately. Our entire meal from entering to exiting the restaurant was just over 30min. It s a shame I will never return because the food was good but does not make up for the terrible service.
South of France
Amazing spot. Steak frites and oysters were amazing. Some of the best food I ve had in Toronto. Our server (the woman with the short hair) was very nice. Great food and service all around, 10/10 experience I will be returning.
We had an amazing steak here! Great value
Came here for their famous half off Steak fries Tuesday Special. I was fortunate enough to walk in and I would say the steak and fries are to die for. The pictures dont do it justice. Service was great, even when it was super busy. Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
Food is always great here, the music choices were an interesting pairing though. Upbeat top 40 pop feels out of place of the overall ambience.
My partner and I had an absolutely delightful experience here this week. We were served by Quentin, like Quentin tarantino (that was his joke not mine), and he was so personable, attentive, knowledgeable and welcoming that we decided we must leave a review. His 5-star service was a cherry on top of a delicious meal! Well definitely be back! Parking: Def a street parking situation
Good food but its very busy. Not a good option if youre looking for some peace when eating.
Tuesday special! Half off 24oz steak, fries and salad platter. Super delicious and filled the tummy of two :)
Great food, made from fresh ingredients. I love their bread, they make it themselves. Yesterday I ve had the steak tartare, compaired with Vacqueras. Definitely a must try combo
excellent resto on Queen we ate in the back patio which was quiet and secluded. Great service and delicious chocolate mousse!!
Worst service and worst restaurant
Great meal! I wish the escargot came in a butter/garlic sauce instead and the steak frites were just okay. The sea bass, steak tartare and crème brûlée were amazing though! Food
1. co te de b uf 2. tarte du jour 3. crème brûlée make sure to go on tuesday for 50% off their co te de b uf! the portions are huge, the fries are made perfectly crispy and are basically mcdonalds fries but better. make sure to upgrade to the caesar salad because it s so much better. i dont have a pic but the crème brûlée is my usual perfect end to the meal here, so be sure to grab that if you have space.
Amazing little bistro. The food was awesome and the staff was so attentive. Great wine, great service, great food. What more do you need.
Great experience, good ambience, and service. Good value for what you get and a worthy place to revisit.
Had such a great dinner here for my dads birthday. We had the pleasure of having Quentin as our server and he was spectacular - so friendly & kind. The service here was fast & impressive. For appetizers, we ordered steak tartare (10/10), grilled octopus (10/10) and escargot (8/10). Because we went on a Tuesday, we got two of the cote de Beouf platters (9/10) for the four of us. We were stuffed but had room for a crème brûlée afterwards (8/10). Go check them out!
Absolutely delicious steak and lamb. Very cozy atmosphere. A lovely little restaurant!
Amazing food, lovely atmosphere, and really wonderful service! We brought our 10 month old baby and couldn t believe how friendly and accommodating everyone was. We will be back!
Great food and half price on their steak and frites on Tuesdays. Upgraded our side to the Cesar salad for an extra $4.
Awesome vibe and really cool spot. The food was good, not great and at about $100 per person, it didnt feel like great value either. Have definitely has better French bistro in the city. Nothing wrong with it, but wouldnt be rushing back.
Just amazing!
Friendly service and the 50% off the cote de boeuf is an incredible deal. The steak was a bit past medium rare but still quite good, and the fries were fantastic
Authentic French experience
love the Côte de Boeuf here!
the food was amazing. i booked a reservation back in december for february because the tuesdays were fully booked so make sure you book early! the tuesday deal was super good, we got a salmon tartare appetizers, the steak tray and 2 cocktails. it was a lot of food and we were all super full. service was nice but the place is a bit tiny. would definitely book again in the future.
Came here a few times and would definitely recommend the cote de boeuf Tuesday special. The steak and fries are delicious and the portion is big enough for 2 people. The service has been great every time as well.
the food was quite good and very very worth it (on tuesdays). i would definitely go back again!
I totally recommend this bistro! I will definitely be back again.
Terrible experience, extremely disappointed. Heard lots of good things about this restaraunt and was really looking forward to going. Started with the onion soup then got the steak board for two. After the soups we were very full so we only had a couple bites of steak and then packed it up to go. Our server came over to bring the bill and dropped our takeout which opened and fell on the floor. Instead of offering a replacement, he brought back a tiny, burnt looking steak which had a really bad smell. The steak was a completely different and cheaper cut than we ordered. We told him that this wasnt fair to the guests and he brought us a crepe to take home to make up for it. Wow. Awful experience and customer service definitely would never recomend this place to anyone.
We came here for their Tuesday special, 50% off the steak and fries special. The steak was cooked to perfection, fries and salad was amazing as well. The dark chocolate crepe was just the right amount of sweetness. Everything was delightful, definitely would come back again and try their other menu options.
amazing food and nice staff
Downtown is a not a friendly place to park a pickup truck, so we choose the restaurant closest to a street parking slot we could find. This place is extremely small, the 60x60cm tables and the really tiny space in between other guests, which is super uncomfortable, closer to 6pm all tables were busy and loud, it was hard to talk with my partner, so we left without dessert. In the menu they do not have a man-size steak, only 6oz and 24oz, we ordered large one to share for two, they allowed us to replace fries with another salad. That steak you can find on pictures from other reviewers here, but the actual size was smaller than on photos. I whish to order 2 steaks, but its price is too high, 50% higher compared to my favorite steakhouse in this area. They have plenty of french wine, mine was quite saur. There is another disappointing local restaurant, seems to be only one in 1km radius, that explains why it was full on Sunday night.
If I could give this place a 6-star review, I would. I have been there several times, and the food is always impeccable and the service amazing. Every time Ive been to this place with people who were going for the first time, they said it was the best service theyve had in their life. The servers are friendly, knowledgeable, and speak French. In addition, the 50% off the steak frites on Tuesdays is one of the best deals in the city. Jules never misses!
ORDERED THE $99 COTE DE BOEF - 24 RIBEYE STEAK SPECIAL LAST NIGHT AND PAID FULL PRICE + hst + 20% tip AFTER TAX AND RECEIVED 12-14oz AT BEST!!!!! Would have complained but my 11yr old daughter who was my dining partner said she would feel embarrassed. SHE ALSO SUGGESTED COMING ON TUESDAY WHEN THE SAME DISH IS HALF PRICE AND THE RESTAURANT IS PACKED WITH EVERYONE EATING IT BECAUSE: YOU CAN SERVE AND SHORT CHANGE 1 TABLE OF THEIR MEAL IF ONLY 1 TABLE IS EATING THAT DISH - BUT NOT A FULL RESTAURANT OF PEOPLE EATING THE SAME DISH!!! Everything else 100% Service - Food Quality - Ambience Kid-friendliness: Attended there last night February 8, 2024 with my 11yr old daughter for dinner at 9pm. We had reservations and were welcomed and accepted without issue.
Sit at the bar! I ve been here before but it was so much better this way. We had a great time tonight for my little sister s birthday. Everything was delicious but the octopus and the crème brûlée were standouts. Leah (sp?) was awesome and helped make my sister s birthday so special! She made me a (gin) espresso martini which I didn t expect to like but it was perfect :)
Was suggested this placed, and certainly wasn t disappointed. So delicious, and my friend who s picky loved the meat! Very filling, on the pricey side but completely worth it. Our waiters were very friendly and knowledgeable. Certainly look forward to going back.
We have been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is delicious and fresh and the service is impeccable! We will be back!
Food is fantastic and service is great too.
Ive visited this place many times by now and I always come back home satisfied. Really good food, friendly service and a great atmosphere. Food
I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the culinary delights of Jules Bistro in Toronto, and let me tell you, it was an evening to remember. My soirée at Jules Bistro coincided with the romantic atmosphere of Valentines Day, and from the moment we stepped through the door, we were enveloped in an ambiance of warmth and hospitality. The owner, with a charming demeanor that exuded genuine care for his patrons, personally greeted us, setting the tone for a delightful evening ahead. The bar, bustling with lively chatter and conviviality, added to the vibrant energy of the restaurant, creating an inviting space where strangers felt like friends. Now, onto the pièce de résistance the cuisine. Our palates were tantalized by the exquisite flavors of the steak and octopus dishes, both masterfully prepared with a finesse that showcased the culinary prowess of the kitchen. The steak, cooked to perfection, boasted a succulence that melted in the mouth, while the octopus, tender yet with a delightful char, transported us to the shores of the Mediterranean with each bite. What truly sets Jules Bistro apart is its ability to evoke the essence of French gastronomy while embracing the multicultural vibrancy of Toronto. The dishes, though rooted in tradition, carry a contemporary flair that speaks to the dynamic culinary landscape of the city. As we departed Jules Bistro that evening, satiated and content, we knew without a doubt that this would not be our last visit. With its exceptional food, warm hospitality, and lively ambiance, Jules Bistro has earned its place as a destination for those seeking an authentic taste of France in the heart of Toronto. Au revoir, Jules Bistro until we meet again!
Been here 3 times now so I feel confident in my review. The service is very quick and the time to get the food is very quick due to the smaller menu. They always have specials that seem really good but I ve never gotten. I have gotten the cote de boeuf and the steak frites and def recommend getting the steak frites over the cote de boeuf just because it s also really good and I believe the value is better!
I loved this restaurant, its a hidden gem the food was great, I shared the Cote de Boeuf with a friend. It was delicious. The service was great, our waiter made a great wine reco to pair with the food. Over all a great experience. I will be returning with friends later for sure
easy going, good food
So good, just the onion soup needs to be a little thicker
Cute as can be with great service! The food is good I just didn t love the steak. However, the cocktails are fabulous!
Jules Bistro is a French restaurant with two locations in the city. We went to their Trinity Bellwoods location for their Tuesday night special which is 50% off Côte de Boeuf. We got lucky that we were able to snag a last-minute reservation for 4 the day of, especially after this deal went viral on social media. The ambiance is very cozy though the tables were quite close together so it was a bit cramped walking through the tables. What we got: - Côte de Boeuf Platter (24 oz. AAA Grade Ribeye, Salad, Fries) - Peppercorn Sauce Final Thoughts: Our party of 4 split two orders of the Côte de Boeuf platter and it was great! Came with a side of fries, a small salad, mayo/ketchup for dipping, and the steak was cooked to medium-rare. I think it was good, but I probably wouldnt pay full price for this dish. Depending on your appetite this may not be enough food either. Each platter was split between two girls who also ordered drinks, but we left with room for dessert after. The peppercorn sauce was an extra $5 and it was good to try but for the price I could do without. Great date night spot for something special, but doesnt make my list of go-to places.
Booked a reservation nearly two months ago to have dinner here today to ring in 2024. Walked 30 min with my partner to realize that the location was closed. Checked Google Maps and it said the location was open + I double-checked the booking confirmation and it was successful. If the restaurant was closed, that should ve been made clear on the booking app. Mind you, the next available bookings are two months out. This 1-star review doesn t reflect the food, as I wasn t able to try it, but more so based on the disrespect to customers of a 2-month wait to a closed restaurant. I can t imagine the frustration of others that have come from further areas. Disappointed as I was looking forward to trying the food.
we had booked a reservation weeks in advance. walked to the restaurant the day of, there was some staff working but they were closed not sure if an special guest/event popped up last minute but this felt very disrespectful as there was no notice of cancellation. my partner has left some voicemails and so far we have not heard back at all. I was looking forward to dining here but the disrespect for the customer has really turned me off. please treat your customers better.
Visited this restaurant during the summer and it was a nice small restaurant, very busy but the atmosphere was pretty great. Food was amazing too might I add. The plate in my photo is good for two people! Wish the place was a tad bit bigger because I felt like I was dining with the table sat beside me. That won t stop me from definitely coming back again during the summer time but make sure you have a reservation! Also, if you decide to come to this location, you re better off taking public transit because parking is difficult to find.
I had my eye on this location for a while and finally dined here for a Birthday celebration. However, my experience at Jules Bistro fell short of expectations. The food lacked consistency; the Steak and Frites we ordered were unevenly cooked. The salad was either too oily or too acidic. The fries were the only saving grace. The place also seemed chaotically managed with servers missing cues and broken glasswares. Overall, the service and the atmosphere were fine. Love the vibe and the decor but sadly the food just did not deliver.
The food lacks consistency. A steak and frites bistro with no pepper mill. Some of the most watery onion soup with mozzarella topping, not gruyere.
Lovely, small bistro, down-to-earth atmosphere. Staff are friendly, food is good, as are the prices. Wheelchair accessibility: Not accessible.
We had a reservation at 8pm on a Friday night. It was very busy and quite noisy, but the food was worth it. The starter (escargot), main (24oz beef platter for 2) and dessert (blueberry pie) were amazing. They also offered a reasonably priced non-alcoholic beer for $6. Definitely going back.
Waitress was very friendly. Food was great just can be a bit expensive on certain items. Overall great place
The Tuesday special for the half off board steak is absolutely delicious. It was a bit fatty but still delicious. The only thing is the service is SO SLOW. We asked for the bill and it took them 30 mins to even get the bill.... also, if they offer you a sauce, dont get it :) its $10 for a small container of it.
Me and my husband just went to Jules Bistro for dinner. The food was amazing! The dessert we tried was made out of apple, it was creative and delicious! We feel like we found a treasure today! Jules Bistro will be our go to French food place from now on! Amazing service and atmosphere as well!
What an amazing experience! Found this because of tiktok and loved it. Everything from service to the amazing food was amazing. Creme brûlée was perfection. Just thinking about it id travel 6 hours to get there again.
Went here for dinner for my fiancé and I s anniversary they did not disappoint! The food was delicious as we got the steak and fries to share. The steak was tender, flavourful, and cooked to perfection. The bread and tartare were immaculate as well. The staff were very friendly, attentive, and kind. I look forward to coming back!
Unbelievable vibe in here. Food is 10/10. Zimo is an amazing guy and never missed a beat in checking in with us. Definitely try the steak and chicken liver! Wow!!
Amazing food and service experience. Server was very attentive and provided excellent advice on drinks and food. We knew my wife and I couldn t do that cote de boeuf justice, but the steak frites, mussels, escargot were all delicious. We will definitely be back to try that cote de boeuf when we are prepared for it!
Food and service were great ! Will return for sure. You can hear some people speaking French so you know it s authentic.
Awesome restaurant
Overhyped! Service was great, but food was bland and meh. Disappointing. Still give it a chance, but no food item was tasty or memorable. Personally, wouldn t return. (Items ordered: soup, escargot, shrimp, octopus, scallops and chicken bacon mushroom entree).
Came in for the first time on a Tuesday for their Cotes de Boeuf special and was seated at the window table beside the entrance. After 30 minutes of waiting I had to find our sever to place our drink and food order. After another 30 minutes our drinks finally came. A hour and a half after being seating we still hadn t received our food order and I had to find the server in order to pay our bill so we could leave. Our party of 3 left hungry and frustrated as it seems that the servers forgot about our table. I understand they can get busy on a Tuesday but if there isn t enough staff to provide basic service I would suggest that they turn people away at the door rather than have them wait hours for a food that was never even being prepared :(
Four of us went for dinner on a Tuesday evening. This is when they have their côte de boeuf for a discounted price. It was an amazing meal. The service was also very nice.
Verbally assaulted and physically threatened by the owner for no reasons. My friend and I had dinner last night and after paying the owner stormed at us, insulted us and threatened us without any explication urging us to leave and pay (which we already did with 18% tips). We tried to understand what was going on, what could have triggered such reaction that I have never experienced in any places I have ever been in Toronto or elsewhere . We just let it as we couldn t discuss with him and left as clearly he seems to have mental health issues or was under the influence. Beware if it happened to me it might happened to you, I ll be looking at putting a formal complaint and should have called the police to press charges
Just Great !!
- Over sells in branding, under delivers in quality - Both food and service can be considerably better. Out of the countless steak frites I ve had elsewhere, theirs is easily one of the dullest. Also, the server seemed bothered with everything and everyone, so that didn t help either. Overall, meh. Food
Can t go bad with steak and frites. A little more frites would be perfect!
Must come with an appetite and company! The steak should always be ordered and I personally loved the grilled octopus the most very fresh and incredibly flavourful
Beautiful evening. As always Tuesday night is half price. No better place in the city to go for two people for under $100 for a steak dinner
Go for their Tuesday night co te de b uf special. The atmosphere, the service and the steak was so good 10/10
Fantastic experience! The service and the food were both outstanding!
The steak Frites is to die for & the escargot, came x2
Fantastic Espresso
They ve nailed the not crazy expensive French restaurant experience, but it s not complete without the Crème Brûlée. Best ten bucks you ll ever spend.
Great steak, great location. Go on Tuesday
Jules Bistro was over crowded and too noisy, more noisy than a Chinese restaurant. Easy to get a headache from the noisy din. The onion soup was the worst I ever tasted.
Mathis was the best server I ve ever had. What a pleasurable experience! Fortunately, I had him as my server.
Great food (and affordable) ordered the steak frites, nice portion size and great wine selection!
Friendly Staff and delicious food. We had the steak tartare, escargot, whole deep fried fish and frites, steak and frites. It was a lovely time.
The steak frites were fantastic and the creme was exceptional. Will be returning soon!
The food and service was amazing! I highly recommend the French onion soup and the Cote de Boeuf. My friends and I shared everything so we were able to try more than we would typically. The one thing is it s a bit loud inside though not enough to deter me as I will definitely be back!!
Great spot for a night of eating and drinking. My first visit was 5 stars but second visit would have been 3 stars. For the record, we had an enjoyable time. If I could be critical, The escargot and crostini bread was disappointing. Didnt feel authentic. Steak was super peppery and tough, flavor of the meat was lacking. Our service at the bar was great first visit but our second visit at the table was worse. The server was training and had no grasp of wine service. The table was dirty with food and spills. Small misses illustrating a lack of care. I would go back if conditions are right.
Great place, great food, great staff make sure to check out their awesome half price steak deal on Tuesdays!
Always a great experience at Jules!
