1158 Yonge St, Toronto, ON M4W 2L9, Canada
Sophisticated restaurant serving a French-Mediterranean menu & an extensive wine list.
Went back after 3 years, food is as good as I remember it to be. One of the most delicious meals I have had in the city. Highly recommend the tartare, duck confit and crème brûlée.
Sorrel Toronto is always one of my wishlist to try. It is busy all the time, and suggest book reservation at least few days ahead especially weekend. We sat down quickly and ordered shrimp cocktail to start, follow by Bouillabaisse and features of the night (Jumbo prawns risotto). To be honest, they are taste good, but the risotto is a bit smaller portion. The cocktail shrimp is a good size black tiger shrimp, but the cocktail sauce is not the best. I believe they homemade the sauce, but not my favorite. Overall good experience, good pricing and great quality of food!
Our visit to Sorrel was a fantastic dining experience for our party of three. We started with the Arugula Salad and Deep-Fried Calamari, both fresh and flavorful. For mains, the Salmon Steak was perfectly cooked, the Bouillabaisse was rich and packed with large scallops and fish, and the Duck Confit was tender and delicious. Every dish was thoroughly enjoyed, and the service was excellent—attentive and welcoming. A couple of minor notes: the butter served with the bread could be more generous—these small indulgence makes a difference in creating a luxurious dining experience., and improved acoustics in the dining room would elevate the atmosphere and allow for easier conversation. Overall, Sorrel impressed us with its food and service. Highly recommended, and we look forward to returning!
OVERHYPED. I heard great things about the patio atmosphere and saw it a lot on Instagram, so I decided to check it out AND I ended up waiting “an hour and a half” for my order. I don't think I'll be going back & The server didn’t even seem to care about our long wait. + The day after eating from Sorrel, I had diarrhea. But pasta was delicious. I would recommend going for drinks and enjoying the atmosphere, but I wouldn’t suggest it for a meal. I didn’t find the special worth it. What I ordered: - Special Menu: Fish ⭐️ (i don’t recommend) - Seafood Linguine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ - Beef Tartare ⭐️⭐️
Delicious food, professional service and a great atmosphere! It's not cheap but I've paid far more for meals in Toronto which weren't nearly this good. You can never go wrong here!
I have been to this restaurant many many times and the service and food has always been great. This time was different. We sat in the room next to the main room. It took 20 min to get water and for someone to take our order. The cocktail shrimp and steak tatare were delicious as always. The mains were disappointing. The fish was bland and my VEAL DISH (special of the day) HAD PLASTIC in it!!! I took a bite of the steak and the white sauce and tasted a weird wrapper. I showed it to the server who said oh my, do you want a new one? I declined a new dish because the veal would go straight into the garbage and that to me is extremely wasteful!! Especially when there are people who can't even afford to buy food or eat. The night continued on like nothing happened, not a single manager came to speak to us or apologize. Our meal was as above with 3 glasses of alcoholic drink. $400 + bill. See picture of the piece of PLASTIC that I pulled from my mouthful of food below!!
I recently dined at Sorrel and had a wonderful experience. The carpaccio was top-notch—absolutely delicious with well-balanced flavors. The scallop ceviche, while fresh, had an overwhelming taste of olive oil and could have been more flavorful. For the main course, I enjoyed the steak frites, which was very tasty, and the veal scallopini, which was also delightful. Dessert was a bit underwhelming, as both the affogato and bread pudding didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The service was excellent, with staff being polite and professional. The atmosphere is very upscale, attracting a special range of clientele! Overall, a fantastic dining experience with some standout dishes and impeccable service
Visiting from Melbourne, Australia and we dined on Tuesday 28th May and had THE BEST dining experience! Ive never had such impeccable service anywhere on the planet like I did at Sorrel. Our waiter Barry was exceptional, making us feel like valued guests. The wine recommendations were great, the timing of food arriving etc was perfect. The food was exquisite - from presentation through to flavour etc. If you appreciate sophistication, attention to detail in every way and want a high end dining experience at great prices (for what you get) then book here. I'm only disappointed I can't come back again soon!
From the service, to the ambiance, to the food - all was great!
I didnt get the experience I was waiting for. I love the grill calamari... I was hopping to have more a french menu but, that night was mainly pasta, pizza or fish. My partner enjoyed his Tagliatelle, I had mushroom soup but had to much pepper. Dessert was fine. Washrooms smell really bad
Rude & unprofessional staff, would not recommended! Save your time & money! The blonde lady that claimed to be the manager needs to be replaced immediately..! Food : 1/5
Poor value for money. Pasta perfectly cooked but bland, main and dessert standard. Did not appreciate the pressure to leave within a minute of next reservation despite having ordered the uber had a substantial bill. I prefer to dine with friends according to our natural timeline, not the restaurants s desire to get in another reservation. No compelling readon to come back.
Excellent experience at Sorrel. Delicious and fresh food, tasty cocktails and great service. Will definitely return.
All was perfect. Highly recommend. Make reservations ( we were there on a Wednesday and it was packed).
I saw a lot of reviews saying it was a date spot, and as they said, the atmosphere was really nice and cozy, so I was able to see a lot of couples and families who came for dates. But I wonder if its delicious enough to pay this money... The appetizers were delicious, but the pasta was very ordinary.
Always excellent food and service!
I made a dinner reservation for 6 people at Sorrel on Open Table. By the day of the reservation, unfortunately 4 of my dinner companions had cancelled on me. Shortly after I received the fourth cancellation (at just after 1), I called and left a message apologizing for the late cancellation, and asking for a call back if the restaurant was not willing to waive my cancellation fee ($50/head). Shortly after 5 (4 hours later, and after I had started making dinner for my kids, assuming all was well) I received a call back from the restaurant, advising me that I would be charged for half of the cancellation fee, or $150. I was frustrated, and couldn t afford to just lose $150, so I told the woman on the phone I would find two people to join me, even though it was late, and I was annoyed. She then told me that if I came, I would need to sit at the bar. I expressed frustration at how disingenuous it was for her to refuse to waive the cancellation fee, in circumstances where it was clear she was going to be able to fill my table. She then agreed to waive the cancellation fee, and said she felt it would be better if I didn t come in to the restaurant. I agreed. About 5 minutes later, someone else from the restaurant called me back, and told me I was going to be charged the entire $300 cancellation fee. I told the restaurant to expect me with whomever I could agree to join me on such short notice, and asked that the reservation be changed to 3 people (I knew at the very least, my 2 kids could join me). I then drove half an hour to the restaurant, and ate my meal, in spite of what were uncomfortable circumstances. The restaurant was packed. In the section I was in, which comprised a large part of the (relatively large) restaurant, there were no (or very few) empty tables. I understand the purpose of a cancellation fee. I understand cancelling a 6 person table at lunchtime the day of is hard for restaurants to deal with (although Sorrel is a big, busy restaurant), and I understand the restaurant was entitled to charge me the full $300. But the way I was treated by the restaurant was unnecessary, unkind, disingenuous and, at the end of the day, petty.
The food was incredible and the service absolutely exceptional. Loved it here. My new favorite restaurant. So cosy!
Amazing French restaurant. Food is great, service is excellent. We ll be back to try other meals from the menu.
I would definitely return here. Great service and very good food and wine.
The atmosphere is good. The food is okay. BEWARE, THE TIPPING percentages on the machine are 22%, 25% and 28%.
Lovely restaurant
Best clam pasta ! Service was great. Cute little patio
I chose to come here for my 40th birthday from all the amazing reviews and photos and I mentioned in the reservation to please have better seating either inside or on the patio. The seating for 2 on the patio is so small we felt so squished and uncomfortable so we asked to be moved inside. We chose a corner spot booth which was much better than outside although it still felt like we were sitting in a narrow hallway. They said the dining area was fully booked and that this is all they had. Even this table was very small and as I reached over to check something I knocked my drink over bc there was just so little room on the table. The waiter was very nice though and brought me another drink and another set of plates. I didn t know the small tables is the French style and it s just not for me. I need it to be more spacious. Now on to the food. We started with the fried calamari which was delicious and I had the peach Bellini with Prosecco which was not my favourite but it wasn t bad. For dinner I ordered the duck confit and it came burnt. I said something to one of the waiters not our waiter but another waiter that asked how it was. Instead of rectifying the issue he just said this is how we serve it which is not true because I ve had duck confit before and it s not suppose to be burnt. Anyway I didn t fight him on it or anything bc I didn t want to make a scene so I just ate it but I m sorry when you re paying more at a fancy restaurant the food should be up to par. I won t be coming back. Between the food and how small the tables are, it s just not for me. Parking: There is a parking lot quite close to the restaurant and if you park after 6pm it s a flat rate of $6. I went on Thursday evening so that was great.
Always a busy place but after 30 minutes we did not get our table outside. A table had been there since 5.30 pm and it was 9 pm!! We were offered a table inside, which we did not want since it is unbelievably noisy inside. We took it anyway and were compensated by a bottle of white wine. Oysters, bouillabaisse, scallops were delicious. Veal not so much.
The very best experience - always amazing and its all about the staff who have been amazing for years. Barry is the best! Food and the beautiful space ...top notch. A unique gem in Rosedale.
Don t bother. Frozen fish. Pasta not freshly made. All style no substance. Don t be fooled by the fancy appearance. Left feeling disappointed Food : 2/5 |
Delicious steak tartare and crispy duck confit. Dessert wine was great. Patio seating is comfortable with fine service. Went for a second visit and their duck confit and crème brûlée were excellent. The only thing was I intended to visit their sister restaurant that day and there was no notice given that it was closed for a private event so it would have been better if they let people know about it through their Instagram account etc.
Great neighbourhood restaurant. Food and service are terrific, perfect menu, a new and expanded wine list. Never disappointing.
This place is definitely overhyped. The seafood I ordered was okay, but the soup tasted bitter and not very fresh. It wasnt flavorful enough. The servers dont communicate with each other at all because they kept giving us the wrong order.
We came today night and was not busy and ask for four people table as we had reserved they gave us centre to able we ask for corner table they told us it s reserved but it was empty till we went at midnight it s all about races For was average not recommended
First time we were there excellent food excellence service with definitely will be back
Impeccable service. More formal attire seems to be the norm. Food was not bad but I wasnt wowed. Great ambience.
Made a reservation in advance but still had to wait for a table on a Thursday evening. Had to ask the bus boy AND another person for our second drink to be ordered. We were not offered or brought bread, however all other tables around us were given bread & butter right away. This USED to be my favourite restaurant, seriously, I was a little disappointed. NOISE LEVEL was VERY HIGH!!!!
A gorgeous little restaurant in summerhill. The food was amazing and so was the service. Only negatives are: expensive (although rightfully so), and their clientele
A wonderful evening, four of us, yet again. Barry looked after us for the third time this year, so far, and as usual was able to point us in the right direction on wine choice and excellent and very helpful advice on menu choices. Great service, unobtrusive but always keeping a look out for when he is needed. The steak tartare is excellent as are all the other starters but if you want a tip, try the steak tartare. I asked for it with a little extra spice and thats how it arrived, exactly as requested. The Veal was superb and the Lobster Ravioli excellent too. Great table, the one we requested when we booked. Carl and Sarah, the owners very much in evidence, keeping a general eye on things and helping out when needed. Whilst we spend some of the year in the UK, when we are in Toronto we always make time for at least one, sometimes two visits to Sorrel each trip.
Lets start with the good stuff. My husband and I loved the food. It was excellent! However, the service is below expectation. Ive never seen a waiter so stuck-up... I guess the Rosedale effect, lol. We also felt rushed to eat, pay, and leave. Not going back...
Exquisite and sophisticated dishes and Attentive services . I really enjoyed the baby octopus appetizer dish, its very delicate, the octopus was very tender, not mushy, alomg the white beans and potatoes rounded out the dish with a fresh, crisp taste. The classic duck confit was made to perfection. I really appreciated the sauce being served separately The lobster ravioli was one of the best ones I ever had. Many places created a lobster paste along with some other ingredients while in Sorrel, youll find distinct chunks of lobster meats without distorted by other fillers The flourless chocolate torte was intense, put me into sharp and pure chocolate heaven. The vanilla ice cream is a perfect match. Thank you veey a wonderful and tasty french dinner
The food, service, and ambiance are all pretty underwhelming. The salmon tartare is way too salty and the marinate lack nuance. The scallops are fresh but again, the dish is quite boring and lack flavours. The cauliflower puree is bland and watery. Now, I ve been to a fair share of fine dining places around the world and I gotta say the service here is subpar. Our server seems a lot more attentive to other customers who belong to the older caucasian demographic. The only thing I liked about this place is its fair pricing. However I think I d rather spend the money elsewhere for a more pleasant dining experience.
Excellent.
Perfect in every respect.
Had a reservation on a Saturday night early (5pm) to eat at Sorrel. we were looking forward to a very nice family meal and time, since we had not eaten there in a while. What a disappointment. Service was a mixed bag of disorganization and neglect. Table had so many glasses that we could barely place anything else. Waiter then promptly spilled a glass of water. It happens; but the reason why this is mentioned, is that later on we then had to beg for another glass of wine, which never arrived. What ultimately soured the evening, was the fact that we were explicitly rushed to finish our dinner, despite the early arrival and high food cost. Shame as the restaurant is beautifully decorated and the food is generally quite good. At this price point, there are many other options.
Top notch from start to finish.
Booked a reservation on Open Table for my husband birthday, and wow were we ever pleased! Everything about this restaurant was perfect. I would highly suggest this restaurant to all my family and friends. We will definitely be returning.
If you like crowded noisey cramped places full of rich seniors this is the place for you
Been regularly going to Sorrel for the past 3 years and have never been disappointed. Food quality/presentation, service and atmosphere are great. Certainly recommended! Food : 5/5
Horrible food! The service was such a disaster. The waiter was full of attitude and he made me and my partner uncomfortable. DO NOT go to this restaurant if you want quality. There are better restaurants in Toronto.
Best overall on Toronto and we have tried all the top spots
Always a great experience, very delicious food. Cozy and warm atmosphere
This place is amazing! Awesome service, awesome food, and decent prices. Our new fave.
Great steak tartare and tiramisu!
Four of us celebrated an 18th birthday here and wanted a fancy, fine dining place in Toronto. But for lunch there are fewer options than dinner. We enjoyed our meal at Sorrel. The starters were the highlights; beef carpaccio, grilled calamari and oysters were all excellent. The mains were good but pricey for the portion size. At $39 for three diver scallops I was really glad wed ordered appetizers. The service was excellent. A complimentary creme brulee for the birthday girl was a nice touch. We ordered desserts and cappuccino so that inflated the cost to $320 w tip (only 1 glass of wine). Wed go back for a special occasion.
Attentive staff Nice presentation. Food could use a little more depth. Elegant place to take someone for a celebration. Food
Food was sublime. Oysters and shrimp as a starter. Escargot special next, followed by duck breast special with roasted veg and blueberry port reduction for me and cacio pepe spaghetti for my partner. Service was attentive and pleasant, and the atmosphere was pleasing and comfortable. There are so many other items I want to try on this diverse menu. My new favourite!!!
We had such a wonderful dinner at Sorrel. Our friends have highly recommended it so we thought we d try it ourselves! Our server Mohsen was very attentive and offered us great recommendations. Every dish was cooked and seasoned to perfection, we will definitely be return customers!
Great service and that grilled squid salad is to die for. That alone is worth coming back for.
I found my way home from school. With my mother. It has a luxurious feel and a good atmosphere. It was delicious. A little expensive. It feels like there are madams and old men.
Amazing food. Attention to detail. Impression service. Beyond expectations.
Fantastic place. Have gone there multiple times and every time the food has been excellent. It s one of my most recommended restaurants in Toronto.
First time visiting but not the last. Food was excellent, service was great. We really enjoyed the experience.
Classy and delicious. I am a repeat customer. I go for all my special occasions. The food has such layers to it. Seabass and buttermilk chicken are my go-tos!
Ymm! Steak tartare was chewy and even slippery. The duck confit was memorable. Crunchy and very well-done. Ice cream was...mmmm.
Delicious sea bass, fresh bread.
Everything was great
Best french restaurant in uptown area ,the Chilean sea bass is the best ,,if you want to go for a romantic date and good food try this place you wont be disappointed
Went for Valentine s Day, was really delicious: definitely a fancy restaurant, but the atmosphere is cozy, elegant and upscale. We really enjoyed our dinner and time. the staff were amazing, very attentive and very wonderful.
Came here to celebrate our anniversary. The ambience was really nice and I also like the bright and well-lit restaurant. For a Wednesday night in the middle of a storm, it was quite packed. Our host was alright, not very warm/helpful with suggestions but did his job well and was also kind to take photos for us. The food was quite good. The grilled octopus, linguine and duck confit stood out! We had a flourless chocolate cake and ice cream for dessert which was also nice. I had mentioned it was our anniversary dinner ahead and when we arrived but I still had to ask for a candle for the dessert; there was pretty much no acknowledgement of the celebration which is unlike other restaurants Ive visited. Otherwise, it was a nice experience but I doubt Ill be back.
Food was good. Little bit overpriced for the clams. Bartender opened sparkling wine with pop sound
Amazing place. Delicious food, pleasant service, high-class clientele. Kid-friendliness: Its more of an adult place.
I made a reservation to this restaurant to celebrate our anniversary with my partner. We ve never been to this restaurant and so thought we d give it a try given the great reviews online. We were greeted and seated to our table even though we were 15mins early. The host was super friendly and was able to accommodate us ahead of our reservation time. Upon seated to our table we were given food and drinks menu. We then proceeded to order a couple of cocktails to start, oysters as starts, mains (sea bass and bouillabaisse) then lastly tea and dessert to wrap up the night. The food was average and the price point was on the higher end so you d think the level of service would match that. Unfortunately throughout the night our waiter was not as attentive to our table( 2people) as the table of 4 next to us. Not sure why because we ordered quite a lot from the menu so not sure what went wrong there. It definitely was disappointing since it was our anniversary dinner date and I was the one who picked the restaurant thinking it d be a great experience for both of us. Nonetheless the food was great.
Extremely pleasant. Food was amazing. But too much olive oil in the grilled calamari.
My husband and I dined here in February. It was a great romantic atmosphere with an amazing menu of delicious items and drinks. We sat at the bar and the staff were so accommodating and friendly. The food. Reasonable portions and flavourful. Cant get enough. Would definitely recommend and will visit again!
What a delicious surprise charming restaurant. With incredible food and great service. Thanks Food
Amazing servers and amazing food. The staff are amazing and extremely knowledgeable
It was my first time here and I will come back. The courses were very good and were the right amount of food. They have a broad variety of food types and I saw them all around at other tables. It s not too noisy which is a nice change from a lot of current restaurants. I think it would be best for 2-4 people for dinner.
Amazing food and incredible service.
Get. The. Ceviche. (and the bread pudding)
Service was top notch. French restaurant, I liked the grilled calmari, which I did not think I would. I had the hanger steak which was very good.
Must try restaurant in Toronto! Amazing food and service!
My wife and I decided to go to Sorrel for our anniversary. We have dined here several times and enjoyed the food and ambiance. Unfortunately we had a very poor dining experience I ordered a hanger steak and my wife ordered veal scallopini. My Hanger steak came. It was extremely tough and literally difficult to chew . I told our waiter. He said I ve never heard that before. I said to him honestly it s hard to eat . He s says I heard you the first time. He was very inappropriate. I spoke to the Manager. She said we can cancel everything and your 2 beers are on the house I felt like she just wanted us to disappear. There are too many outstanding restaurants in Toronto to choose from and the best, classiest restaurants would have handled the situation far differently.
A delightful french cuisine in Toronto (personally I think it s one of the best in town). They have a broad choice of wine, with various price levels, countries, made and taste. I m sure there ll be one bottle that suits you and your party. I m most impressed by their duck confit. It had the ideal amount of fat meat ratio, so it didn t feel too fatty nor dry. The red wine paired perfectly with it. The atmosphere and service were very pleasant. Highly recommend for a date night and/or special occasion.
My friend and I came here for her birthday and we had a great experience! Our server was incredibly nice and informative of their special menu. I had the hanger steak and my friend had the duck confit and both meats were fresh and delicious. Definitely a spot to check out for a special occasion!
Excellent all around.
I made a reservation for my wife and I on Mothers Day. She is 36 weeks pregnant. While making the reservation I did not notice that it was only bar seating. When we arrived they were rude, inconsiderate and lacked common sense service skills as it was clear my wife could not sit at the bar. There were at least 4 empty tables when we arrived. Customer service was awful and hostess was so rude on the way out when had to cancel. The fact that you believe you are right makes me feel even better about walking out.
Fabulous experience, amazing food and great service! Love it here.
For Mothers Day, my husband and I booked a table at Sorrel, and it was a good choice. The food and the ambiance were delightful, and we will definitely be back!
You come here to impress business clients or get your girl to take her instagram photos. The food is average.
Pretty good flavors, Nice place, good service. Pricey but thats to be expected in that neighborhood. Worth it.
Enjoyed every moment at this restaurant, the staffs are super friendly and very professional. The prices are reasonable base on the quality of food that we ordered the steak that I ordered was a little bit over grilled but the quality of meat was at top grade enjoyed every piece of my steak
Nice restaurant. Loved the Bouillabaisse and Duck confit. Bouillabaisse had rich taste of sea food. The duck confit was crispy. Oysters were good and fresh too. Not recommend Ravioli, whole dish was too tasteless that we had to soak into the Bouillabaisse.
We initially had a reservation at another restaurant but decided to change it up last minute and we chose Sorrel. It did not disappoint at all. The atmosphere, the food and our server TJ were nothing short of amazing! Highly recommend
Barry is a great waiter. Food is fantastic
Sorrel with their French Mediterranean inspired menu, it s a perfect spot to chill. All the dishes we tried were great. Amazing value for the $2 oyster (if that is your kinda thing) Reservation is highly recommended as they have a full house every time we went. Great atmosphere. Lunch from Mon-Fri. Dinner only for Sat and closed on Sunday.
Absolutely delicious! Thank you so much. You all made our celebration that much more special!
Food is solid, even if it s not very innovative, huge wine list and very well designed in menu list , service is friendly and professional
The duck confit was really good. Need to come back again to try other dishes.
Food is okay but extremely rude server will not dine here again!
Excellent food and service. Great atmosphere.
Perfect place, fried calamari deserves more than 5 stars highly recommended.
This French-Mediterranean restaurant gets top marks. The oysters, pasta et al were excellent! Andrew was our server and he was great! The atmosphere/dining experience sitting outside on the patio last Saturday was so authentic it was a throwback to when I was in St. Paul-de-vence years ago dining at the Colombe D or! Thanks for a great evening.
Evening started out great. We had to take a seat outside but our fault for not having reservations. Outside was very nice except for the risk of rain, again no fault of the restaurant. Service started out really good but half way thru the dinner our waiter kind of disappeared. Not sure what happened but had to ask to different people for more orders, water and cheque. Food was good, my wife enjoyed her main, my duck confit was actually a little drier than I ve ever had. No bad, just an observation.
Honestly, the food was mediocre. Everything we had except the creme brule was fairly bland. Presentation was typical of any nice restaurant. There were three of us, so we had a wide variety from across the menu. Nothing was terrible, but nothing stood out. Service and atmosphere were great.
Food not as good as I expected but in general nice. Feels more like a family French style restaurant. Service is great staff are nice and atmosphere is very nice!
This restaurant is an excellent value. Food was overall delicious. Had the calamari and the steak and both were fantastic. Definitely an underrated place. Food
Our anniversary dinner date got cancelled. I am literally scrambling to find another spot today- i initially booked on open table which does not allow you book indoors- only bar or outdoors. I booked and called earlier this week to confirm i can be seated inside- a gentleman told me it should be fine. I later edited the reservation on open table and again put the request to be seated indoors. But we got a text today saying because of the weather- outdoor seating may not be available and indoor seating is fully booked. I find the system to be silly- i was looking forward to trying out there menu. But there is no contingency for rainy days- why is indoor dining not an option on open table?
Scallops in every dish we had was not fresh. No matter it is the small or big scallops. Food tastes good if the price is a few bucks less.
Consistently excellent: food, service and atmosphere
Amazing food, service, and atmosphere. The Fried Calamari, Duck Confit, Tagliatelle (mushrooms), Bouillabaisse, and Braised Beef Short Ribs are perfect. The Duck Confit is perfectly crisp on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. You wont need a knife. The broth for the Bouillabaisse is infused with saffron, which gives it a very rich aroma and taste. Every bite of the Tagliatelle (mushrooms) is underscored with truffle, which balances really well with the mushrooms. Their Braised Beef Short Ribs are so fall-of-the-bone tender that you wont need a knife. And the Potato Gratin that accompanies the dish bursts with flavour.
Had a fantastic dinner at Sorrel. We had the Branzino special, along with the Tagliatelle mushroom pasta as an appetizer and La Crema wine. Delicious food, incredible service from TJ and warm ambience. Looking forward to dining there again soon.
A perfect place for a delicious meal! One of my new favourite places. The caesar salad has to be one of the best Ive ever had! Pictured here are the shrimp cocktail, the daily special which was grilled branzino, rack of lamb, mushroom tagliatelle pasta with truffles, and some fabulous wine. The food and service was spectacular. Highly recommend and all star 5 service. Def going back.
Nice atmosphere and tasty food at this staple restaurant. Everything was done well, although nothing necessarily stood out. Will be back.
Somehow I thought I wrote that review 100 years ago :-) Sorrel is the best gem in the city. I was asked last week what my favourite restaurant was - Easy! It is Sorrel! The staff, the food, the vibe, everything is fabulous! I could eat here everyday. It is just wonderful!!
I have had Sorrell bookmarked for a while after two friends recommended this place, and finally found the opportunity to make a reservation for my best friends birthday celebration yesterday. Ill divide my review in two parts, the food and the service. The food: We ordered a Dirty Dog and a French Martini for drinks, Roasted Beets and Steak Tartare for apps, and the Clam Linguine and Mushroom and Tagliatelle for our mains. Everything we had was absolutely exceptional. A huge shoutout to the seasoning in the Steak Tartare, which both of us agreed was phenominal. Having run a food influencer account for 5+ years and working with restauranteurs in Toronto for my banking job, I have had my fair share of tartares, and these were on the top of my list. The pastas were cooked well and I personally adored how un-saucy they were; it brought out the flavour and the texture of the dishes. We decided to pass on the dessert mainly due to what Ill be mentioning under the service below. The service: Unfortunately, the service was disappointing to say the least. We are decently fast eaters, and the entire meal took 2 hours, mostly spent waiting to order and for water. It took our server close to 20 minutes to come around and take our drink order (at that time, the patio space was about 20% full). After that, it was another long wait until hes back to take our food order. When we wanted our water refilled during our appetizers, it was almost impossible to flag him down or get his attention. This got me trying hard to look for him, because we were pretty thirsty at that time (we had half a small-ish wine glass of water only and we were eager to get some more so we can continue to enjoy the Tartare!). I started noticing that he was visiting quite frequently, other tables he was waiting - checking up on them, filling their water glasses, asking about temperature, making small talk, etc. He walked by our table 12 times to another table without bothering to look at our empty glasses or check in on us once. When I tried to flag him down when he walked by a few times, but he seemed like he had his mind completely occupied at other tables (Id like to assume he was not fully ignoring us). I hated to do this, but we had to ask a different server who came around collecting our plates to refill our water. I wont go into more details, so in short, the next time we spoke to him, he was at our table offering the dessert menu. Clearly, we had no appetite for desserts. Safe to say, as much as I love the food here, I will not be recommending or revisiting this space, especially if youre looking for a special celebration and want service that live up to the amazing food. In addition, I dont want to make assumptions as to why we were mistreated, but we did notice that we were the only two East Asians on the side of the tables of the patio.
Had a great time at the patio last time. Professional and fast service. Delicious food. Try the steak tartar
Food quality always good
Great service, delicious food, love their street-side patio setup Definitely a good spot for an evening meal
Beautiful restaurant on Yonge Street. The food is amazing, the pasta was cooked to perfection. Service was ok. But it is a beautiful restaurant for a nice long lunch.
Nice and friendly staff. I would say the outside tables are a bit small for two people having food and appetizers. The calamari was really tasty. Roasted beets salad was refreshing and good. The only problem was I asked for a medium-rare steak but as you see in the photo it wasn t right. I told them about it and unfortunately they didn t agree with me. Loved the butter and bread. Bread was warmed up which is really great.
First time. Really wonderful. Staff is great, food delicious. Definitely will return Parking: P parking down the road .
Always top notch service and amazing food. Never disappoints!
Fantastic establishment! Thank you for the great hospitality and amazing food Owners are very friendly and so are waiters and wait staff help! Food : 5/5
Really enjoyed the food here. Staff was quick and efficient. Place was busy but it wasnt so loud that we had to yell to have a conversation. The biggest issue with the food was the lack of seasoning in the cauliflower puree under the seared scallops. Thats probably the only thing.
Wonderful service, delicious food expertly served. My first time, hopefully not the last.
The food was fresh and vibrant. Beautiful restaurant with attentive staff, delicious dishes, and festive atmosphere. Will come back again for a special occasion meal.
Very friendly service, delicious food, comfortable atmosphere. Great neighbourhood spot.
AMAZING food! We had a four course dinner so got to try a lot of things. We were very impressed with the cuisine. Service was also very good. Would visit again!
Fancy little spot - a French restaurant that strives to deliver authentic European experience and service. The menu was a little too narrow for my preference. I did order the healthiest dish on the menu but the portion was a bit too light and small. It s a little on the high end price but the experience was nonetheless unique. The only thing that annoys me is that there is no menu online and their web presence is insufficient in helping you make a decision if you are unfamiliar with this restaurant. Leads me to believe that people who come here are locals and know the place and their menu.
Excellent food. Decent prices. Great vibe.
Romantic atmosphere, lobster ravioli was really good and their scallops were amazing. The other main we had was the bouillabaisse which was not my favourite but overall an enjoyable time
Good menu, excellent dishes and service, judicious choice made for an excellent and good value meal. And now they serve lunches during the week
Best restaurant in Toronto.
Excellent food and great service! An excellent meal experience!
Service is fantastic, food is the beautiful, and drinks were amazing.
So excellent....the service, the gourmet food , incredible wine list and the atmosphere Numero Uno and its spotless Loved every second there celebrating my beautiful birthday Thank you for being here. Torontos top 3 restaurants for sure.
3.5 out of 5. Overall the restaurant was decent, but not amazing. It does very well for what it is: a higher-end French restaurant, in Rosedale, that is the perfect place to bring older parents. Great decor, with excellent service and inoffensive food. Our waiter gets 5/5. He was attentive and friendly, without being intrusive. The dishes were competently made, plated well, and tasted good, but lacked creativity or whimsy, and heavily relied on butter. On their own, they didn t justify the high price point. For example, their fried chicken was fine, but not $30 good. The Buffalo mozzarella was also what you would get at any restaurant in Toronto. This place clearly exists to cater to a certain demographic, and i wasn t it
Awesome service, tremendous food
Some of our food was under seasoned and some of the seafood tasted a bit off, but we enjoyed the ravioli and the raw meat appetizers like steak tartar. Overall I wouldn t go back considering the price vs. quality.
The combination of solid food and exceptional service makes this restaurant a great choice.
Always good
My second favorite restaurant in Toronto. Both the food and service are great. Their menu offers a wide range of authentic French recipes.
Consistently excellent all around. Wine selection more extensive than some LCBOs. Gem of Rosedale.
I really wanted to like this restaurant, as Ive been following them for a while and my experience was just very disappointing. The service was okay, the food was cold and just not very flavourful at all. The restaurant felt a bit dated and dark as well. I only took a photo of one of the dishes because nothing really stood out in presentation either.
Classy. Great food, high class of service, great recommendations from the waiters. Loved it
Decent atmosphere but sub par to other restaurants of this price point in Toronto. Less refined service and some parts of what I ordered were tasteless.
I booked this place after reading all the positive reviews and it did not disappoint! Every dish were made to perfection. I have to say it is one of the best restaurants in Toronto!
I had a virgin mojito, the beef carpaccio and the bouillabaisse. The mojito was served in a rocks glass and was a decidedly unbalanced mocktail. The carpaccio was one big slice that covered the plate, with arugula, shaved parmesan and olive oil on top. I was excited to introduce my friend to the dish as she hadnt tried it before but after tasting it myself decided this was not the place to introduce her to the delicacy as it was barely average. About 45 minutes after my appetizer was cleared, we were served our mains. My excitement over my order rapidly diminished after the presentation. It looks lovely and they make a show of pouring a bit of broth over the seafood. The broth was not even deep enough so that I could submerge my spoon. Dipping the crostini in it proved useless as the bread was too hard and the broth too thinly layering the base of the bowl. It was certainly edible but Ive had better so I have no intention of returning or recommending it. I wish Id had the lobster ravioli but Id already had carpaccio as a starter and I was at a French restaurant keen for French cuisine.
High quality French food without being pretentious. Excellent seafood, meats and pasta and service at a reasonable price. If you want an excellent meal and atmosphere that doesnt break the bank, try Sorrel!
I am reposting this on Google from my OpenTable account. I thought (perhaps) that the restaurant would reach out to us to follow-up with our experience but no such luck. Too bad, I really thought they would be classier than that. Oh well... I was thrilled at the start of our visit as the manager accommodated another couple joining us last minute bringing our reservations up to 4 from 2. However, was quickly underwhelmed by the service. Our waiter, decided that it would be appropriate to send a couple micro-aggressions my way. I asked is there a washroom inside so I can wash my hands? which he felt warranted a couple of sarcastic jokes eg no we dont have any washroom here we expect you to go on the street - and later when I asked about a dish, he felt it necessary to tell me its pronounced ta-liattelle (i.e. no hard G in the name). I somehow highly doubt he does this to his more elderly Caucasian Rosedale guests...he looked at me (a visible minority) and my husband (we both have lots of tattoos) and our friends and decided we werent from around here and he was going to let us know. Onto the food - which was ok. The oysters and salad apps were fine but a bit bland (Mignonette lacking, arugula salad good but missing something), the steak special was fine (my husband and a friend got that), my beef and pork tagliatelle was also fine but not amazing and the duck main was acceptable. The tiramisu was also pretty good. Overall Id say the patio and ambiance are great but other aspects of our experience seriously detracted from me giving this a full 5 star rating. My husband and I are foodies - I saw the reviews and was so excited for a special night out. Unfortunately, one obnoxious waiter can really ruin a meal. I will not return nor recommend to friends based on this as I dont want to reward this type of behavior.
Love this restaurant so much. Service, food ,so good
Dinner was Delicious and the Service was First Rate. If you want Real French Cuisine here in Toronto, Sorrel is the Place!
Charming and great food and service!
Very disappointing meal here - cant understand why its so highly rated. Food was very bland or extremely salty. Service was rather questionable. Management was gossiping about clients with other people. Bizarre experience and I dont normally post reviews!
Many thanks Sorrel for making our special night memorable. Shelly youre amazing, were glad we took your recommendations on the menu.
The food was very good and the staff was very attentive. The dress code was perfect for my significant other and I to dress nicely and not feel out of place.
Its a nice restaraunt. We really enjoyed our experience here on several occasions. Great midtown vibes.
Vegetarian options: There are veg options. Dietary restrictions: They ask about restrictions and allow for substitutions. Kid-friendliness: Its kid friendly but dinner was a little more subdued Wheelchair accessibility: The on street patio is accessible but bathrooms in the restaurant are not accessible. There are stairs to get into the restaurant.
The waiter selected 20% tip before handing me the machine. That is not how it works. The customer should be the one to choose.
We loved everything. Would go back.
Great oysters & other food. Super staff
Such great food and amazing service.
Updating my previous review and dropping the rating to 3. I do have to say for the most part the food was excellent, but you would expect more than just food from a restaurant of such caliber overall the experience was lacking. The Caesar Salad, Artichoke hearts, duck confit, steak frit and Branzino were great. Unfortunately the short ribs were cold Where they lost out was on their service. They struck out not 3 but 4 times. It began with twp of us missing cutlery which is not a big deal but leads to the questioning of general attention to detail. The meals did not come out at the same time. The duck confit and the potatoes gratin that accompanied the still missing short ribs is what was served first. While we were waiting for the rest of our meals a server came by with a large pepper grinder stood over an empty plate and asked if we want any pepper. We replied possibly once our meals arrive. The meals arrived about 5 minutes later our server completely dissapeared even after we had asked for water refills. She did reappear without water to ask how our meals were, again we asked for water and mentioned the short ribs were cold. The response was too bad you should have mentioned it earlier and walked away. Our friends were celebrating an anniversary this was mentioned to the server early on and she acknowledged they will do something nothing was done or mentioned. We would have been happy with a candle in one of the desserts we ordered. Our friend asked the server if she could take a picture of the table and she said they are too busy to take picture requests and walked off, She did take our picture 15 minutes later, but it is just the attitude that was not appreciated. Unfortunately this experience did not leave an enticement for any of us to return PREVIOUS REVIEW We were 5 of us celebrating a birthday. Very busy and bustling evening. The waiter was very attentive and was always available. The wine list was very impressive weighted on French wines but great Italian and other geographies as well. We started with a variety of apps and salads which were immediately devoured. The heirloom tomato salad missed the mark, the dressing was great however the tomatoes were not that great Mains were varied and shared with the table. Catch of the day was a Branzino and very flavourful. The Scallops went quickly and the Cacio e Pepe pasta was at the top for favorites. Surprisingly the black truffle pasta was not that great and was not finished by the table. Another hit for the table were the truffle fries a definite must. We will definitely be back unfortunately could only give a 4 out of 5 due to some of the misses above.
Great food and great service.
It all starts with the call to place an order. Friendly easy ordering. Went in got my order checked out the place for future reference and took the food home. Started with an excellent generous Cesar salad big enough for 2. We did warm the mains but thats takeout.. The mains were very tasty and again generous. The veal was cooked to perfection. The fish came right off the skin. Nice fresh half baguette with some really great butter ( I never usually put butter on my bread). We cracked open our own bottle of wine, some mood lighting and we felt like we were dining. Too bad theyre not open yet. This place has shot up to the top of my list to come back to. Excellent food, the 2 people I met were friendly and professional. This was my favorite take out since Covid started!!!! Update: Went back Sept. 2022 We chose Sorrel to celebrate our anniversary. Despite messaging the restaurant and telling our waiter . Nothing We chased our waiter all night and started asking other people for butter, salt, water .. The appetizers were good but the mains were cold and the veal was over cooked and dry. Not the same as our last experience. The restaurant was packed but at the end of the day we chose to spend our special occasion here and they failed. Another waiter took sympathy on us at the end of the meal and brought us water, fixed our desert and brought us the bill so we could finally pay. I will give them another chance for our previous experience.
Delicious food, lovely ambiance and a convenient location! Sorrel is a fantastic place for dinner. There are plenty of options on the menu from steak frites to mushroom tagliatelle. I loved the beet salad and my husband enjoyed some mussels. The server was extremely friendly and attentive. Vegetarian options: There are some lovely vegetarian salads and pasta, but the menu is more focused on meat and fish.
We visited this place twice with my friend and are planning to come here again. Excellent service, amazing food, and great vibe of this place are what make it special and top-rated. Would like to emphasize the quality of service: you feel like your wishes are even anticipated at times. Definitely recommend.
Great food at a great price. Loved it. Was here for the second time this Friday. Very nice. Tried my first raw oysters...loved them. The cocktails were great I had Tipperary and a Moscow Mule. The waiter was great, the food better, the company lovely. The grilled calamari is really good. We will be back.
Excellent service, food, and atmosphere. Dietary restrictions: They were able to accommodate my dietary restrictions.
An absolutely amazing restaurant! We celebrated my girlfriends birthday here and the service was nothing short of spectacular. The food was very tasty and the drinks were incredible! 11/10 would recommend this place :)
Very disappointed as waiter shared the specials but never told us the prices. We assumed average entree was $30 to $40 as per the menu so I ordered catch of the day which was sole. Totally shocked when the check arrived and they charged me $85.00. When I asked the waiter if this was correct he just shrugged and said it was expensive. First time ever I did not leave a tip! Also called and left message for the manager who never called me back. I think it is important to inform your customers when the price is significantly higher than the average entree. Very very disappointed as have heard wonderful things about Sorrel. Not impressed with the service.
Quite a busy (and slightly noisy) spot Yonge Street. No vegan options other than sides. Decent food and nice ambience.
The best dining experience I ve had in a very long time. The cocktails were absolutely amazing, and the food was delicious. Great ambiance and a friendly bartender to have some fun and casual conversation with. Highly recommend
We arrived a little late, the waiter informed us that the kitchen closes for orders within ten minutes - we hurried to order - the dishes were delicious and very small in relation to the price. In conclusion, the food is delicious, but the portions are small and very expensive. It is worth coming for a one-time experience
Food was very well put together, the atmosphere was cozy, elegant and sophisticated. An excellent choice to take a date or for birthdays, anniversary or just a cause dinner I had the sea bass and it was nice and crispy on the outside but tender and moist on the inside. The steak tartare was a great start too
I ll still give a 3 stars because food was very good, but dissapointing service. First, when we were escorted to the table there were comments made by the lady how this is a romantic table, lots of engagements happening here ect. ( i have asked for nice, private table in reservation) but does that mean anything should be assumed? Second, waiter started speaking to us in russian assuming we were russian. We are not and even if we would be.. Why? Why is that necessary? Im sure they both meant no harm, but it is a fine dining restaurant and assuming someones relationship or nationality and making comments is not prefessional and also can make things uncomfortable for people
Disappointing. Plating of veal was banal and looked ordinary dusted with parsley. The bouillabaisse was tepid in temperature with withered clams and mussels, cold (frozen) shrimp and a small dry pice of fish. Broth had no depth of flavour. Grilled black baguette points with unappealing aioli. Although this restaurant is ideally located, they could do ALOT better. There were 2 glasses in the cabinet next to where we were sitting which had remnants of red wine so evaporated that there were rings and sediment around the glasses. Unbelievable! When was the last time someone checked that?? Nice waiter. There are better places to go in the neighbourhood .
The hostess was passive aggressive and seated us late. The service beyond that was decent; the food was expensive and mediocre for the price--Ive had better duck confit for much cheaper. Drinks were well-made. The highlight of the night was the free bread--need I say more?
$2 oysters and a lovely menu of classics & favourites!
